So this week is going to go down as maybe the most sapphic week in animation history. It’s going to have a great case, there are so many sapphic shows or shows with prominent sapphic couples airing this week.
Don’t know what I’m talking about? Here’s a quick rundown:
Yuri Is My Job!
Premiering on Crunchyroll on April 6th.
Tumblr media
Yuri is My Job! is based on a yuri manga of the same name. It follows high schooler Hime, who cares deeply about her image as sweet and helpful, even though she’s actually selfish. She accidentally injures the manager of a cafe, and agrees to work there to make up for it. But this is no ordinary cafe, it’s like a cafe dinner theater where all the waitresses play characters from a fictional high school and act out skits for the patrons. Hime’s character is supposed to be in love with one of the other waitresses’ character, but she starts actually falling for the girl. Only problem is, behind the scenes the other waitress seems to hate her.
Yeah, that sounds kind of bonkers! I can already see the story now, Hime starting out playing a role, and eventually having to legitimately earn the love of Mitsuki.
Tumblr media
Birdie Wing: Golf Girls’ Story
Season 2 premiering on Crunchyroll on Friday, April 7th
Tumblr media
Ah Birdie Wing. If you saw season one, you know just how delightful wacky this show is. It follows the stories of Eve, a golfer that plays in illegal underground golf matches for the mob, and Aoi, a golf prodigy and the new sensation of the golf world. Their lives crash into each other and the chemistry is overwhelming and immediate.
Technically Eve and Aoi aren’t canon as of the end of s1, but it’s hard to imagine that the show isn’t heading in that direction. It makes no effort to hide the fact that these two are into each other.
I’m so excited to see what season 2 has in store for these two. Birdie Wing is just a delightfully weird little show.
Tumblr media
Princess Principal: Crown Handler Chapter 3
Premieres in theaters in Japan on Friday, April 7th
Tumblr media
Alright, so this won’t be useful to a lot of people reading this, as this is only premiering in Japan this weekend. But I wanted to mention it because (a) it’ll come over to the US sometime this year, and (b) Princess Principal is awesome and I want to promote it when I can.
Princess Principal was a 12 episode series that aired in 2017, and Crown Handler is a six-part sequel OVA series.
In a nutshell, Princess Principal is a steampunk spy thriller set in an alternate universe European kingdom that has been divided by a wall, Berlin-style. It follows a team of spies, masquerading as high school girls, as they try to prevent the two sides from going to war.
I know, “why is this on a list of gay shit?” Well, because it is. Two of the main characters, Ange and Princess Charlotte, are big-time into each other and while the original series does the anime thing of “we’re only allowed to go so far with this”, the OG series has a lot of intimate scenes between the two and does end *SPOILERS* with the two of them sitting on the beach together while holding hands.
And perhaps Crown Handler, being made years later, can finally take their relationship farther.
Tumblr media
RWBY Volume 9
Volume 9 episode 8 airing on Crunchyroll on Saturday, April 8th
Tumblr media
RWBY has been ongoing, and the current volume has been airing since February, but there’ll be another episode this Saturday. Right now RWBY is in the middle of dealing with a lot of trauma, BUT, the bees are canon and dating so every episode of RWBY is now officially gay. So says me.
Tumblr media
The Owl House: Watching and Dreaming
Series finale airing on the Disney Channel on Saturday, April 8th
Tumblr media
I’M NOT READY TO LOSE THIS SHOW! 😭
*ahem* The third and final season 3 special airs on Saturday, and promises to be mega emotional and super gay.
I’m grateful that this show had a chance to finish its story, something a lot of sapphic media doesn’t get to do. But I am still pissed about it getting cancelled in the first place simply because it didn’t fit their “brand” (read: this show is too gay for Disney).
But I just know that Dana and her team put together a sensational finale.
Tumblr media
Mobile Suit Gundam: the Witch From Mercury
Season 2 premiering on Crunchyroll on Sunday, April 9th.
Tumblr media
Affectionately called G-Witch, season 1 of this show was a revelation in the fall. It follows the story of Suletta Mercury, precious cinnamon roll and the most talented mobile suit pilot around, and Miorine Rembran, daughter of the president of the Benerit Group, a mega-corporation that has massive political power.
The show revolves around a school that’s mostly full of the children of powerful people. And then there’s Suletta, a nobody that just wants to be a normal girl and have a normal school life but through a series of events ends up in a mobile suit duel that she easily wins, earning her the title of Holder, which makes her Miroine’s groom.
At first, the two treat the arrangement as a business arrangement, both seeing practical value in this arranged engagement. But it’s obvious that Miorine is actually pretty into Suletta from the start, and we see Suletta slowly falling for Miorine too.
G-Witch is incredible. Part awesome mecha fights, part political intrigue, part romance between two useless girls who’d rather die that admit their actual feelings.
I am SO EXCITED for season 2!
Tumblr media
LGBTQ media hasn’t had it great as of late, with a ton of frustrating cancellations and it almost feeling like Hollywood is going backwards in terms of its commitment to giving us space to tell our stories.
But animation, both in the US and in Japan, seems to be making great strides, being our light in the dark.
All five of these shows are airing episodes this week, and Crown Handler will be in theaters this week and on streaming/blu-ray later this year. RWBY has been airing for weeks and its been the gayest volume yet. the Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady just finished airing and was wonderfully sapphic. I’m In Love With the Villainess is scheduled to air sometimes this year. And just maybe we might get Arcane season 2 before the end of the year.
I’m excited for how sapphic and yuri animation is progressing, I hope it keeps going forward.

Classic Disney cartoons - My Meme
A meme, a few months old, that I made so here I am to publish on the occasion of the 122nd birthday of Walt Disney, as well as on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Disney Studio as well as the 40th anniversary of the Disney Channel as well as on the occasion of next year as the 40th anniversary of Disney Afternoon and of course 90th anniversary of the first appearance of the best Disney character in the world.
Although I'm not a fan of Disney, especially not today, I'm still grateful that through those cartoons I entered the world of comics and fell in love with them, and that they gave me a good youth. Not only these cartoons, but others, but still a special place is occupied by these cartoons that gave the best that Disney had, that is, the focus of the real Disney, the classic Disney universe (Mickey Mouse / Donald Duck / Goofy / Chip and Dale universe). Certainly on classic shorts and classic Disney series from the beginning to the present day. Yes, I don't like Mickey Mouse Clubhouse as I consider it a degradation of the Mickey and Friends characters, but that's just my opinion. I should have also put Mickey Mouse Cartoons by Paul Rudish and Ducktales reboot, but unfortunately not everything would fit. The classic shorts, OG Ducktales, Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck, Goof Troop, Quack Pack, House of Mouse, and The Legend of The Three Caballeros are certainly examples of great Disney series, at least for me. Although I would prefer to see some animated Disney series made along the lines of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck comics, in the right ways. By the way, thanks Disney for this one!
However, this is my opinion and my meme, and this is just for good humor, so please don't be offended. If you like this meme, and these cartoons, feel free to like and reblog this. Happy anniversaries to Walt Disney, Disney Studio and Disney Afternoon!

RUMOR: Kim Possible Revival Movie On Development At Disney Television Animation For Disney+.
Catch Me, Beep Me, If You Wanna Reach Me on the 2020s....
It seems that The Proud Family: Louder And Prouder turned to be a big sucess for Disney+ as the streamer has set another revival (Phineas And Ferb) a month ago and it seems that our favorite spy might be back for the track, this time as an upcoming revival movie might be on the works at Disney Television Animation for Disney+.
According to The Cosmic Circus a reliable source for MCU scoops, Disney TVA might be working on a revival/reboot of the beloved Kim Possible series for Disney+ instead of two full seasons like P&F, the revival/reboot seems to be a Movie but we wouldn’t bet that the movie will be a gap between the og series and the revival.
According to what I’ve learned recently, a reboot of the series from the early 2000s has been in the works. This project will be animated and so not a continuation of the 2019 live-action film that was questionable at best.
However, those looking for a whole new season might have to wait just a bit longer, because it seems this reboot is going to be a film for one of their networks or Disney+, if not both (as seen with other cross-platform Disney projects). Although, I wouldn’t be surprised if another series or more films follow if this reboot is received well by audiences.
Recently some hints of a revival happened on the 20th Anniversary conversation at GMA on 2022 and a panel on D23 Expo and on late November 2022, Series Co-Creator Bob Schooley posted a photo on his new office at Disney TVA after 2 years of the pandemic and recently Disney Channel has been posting full episodes of Kim Possible on it’s Youtube Channel alongside Recess on Disney XD probably hinting a reboot/revival for the latter too?.

As an OG HSM fan (like I watched the OG on Disney Channel when it released), I gotta commend everyone on a fantastic show. When they announced a TV series, I was like "It's too late; we don't want this," but I watched the first episode just to see what they were doing to my beloved series.
I was blown away and immediately invested. I was also extremely impressed by the two young actors they found to be our new stars. There's no replacing Zac and Vanessa, but Joshua and Olivia were so immensely talented and could hold their own. Olivia Rodrigo especially caught my eye and ear. There was a unique star power there and discovering that she wrote All I Want convinced me to further invest in her career. This kid was definitely going places. Lo and behold, Drivers License and her solo music career took off. Turned out, I was right. But I also knew eventually, that would somehow impact the show. I wasn't shocked that Olivia eventually chose to leave to focus in on her music. In fact, I was and am incredibly proud of her success.
Luckily for the show, the writers and producers had already done an amazing job building up a new leading lady. They just didn't know it and neither did we. You will never convince me that Ricky and Gina were the plan in season 1. In fact, as a Rina shipper in season 1, I had already accepted that Ricky was destined to be with Nini and grateful that we'd gotten a beautifully written Rina story and that Gina and EJ were just as lovely and wonderful (still miss you, Portwell). There was no way the writers could have predicted the pivot they would have to make from Olivia/Nini/Rini to Sofia/Gina/Rina. But God, are we all so lucky to have Sofia Wylie.
Sofia stepped into the leading lady role perfectly from season 3 to the very end. She is so talented in every way, singing, dancing, acting. She excels at it all. And Olivia's exit from the show really helped to further showcase all of these talents. Every moment is a shining one from her. I was in tears over her series finale monologue. And thankfully, the writers hadn't neglected to write Gina as fully fleshed out while she was only a supporting character. Thankfully, the writers had already built a solid foundation for Ricky/Gina. If they hadn't, the transition would never have worked. The show would have declined as many have before. Instead, the gear shift brought a new energy to the show and maybe even gave everyone else in the cast more of a chance to shine.
The reason I say all this is because I've seen a lot of fighting over Olivia vs. Sofia. The reality is, both of these young women brought something equally important to the show. They were both special and unique and gave their all to the characters they played. They were both our leading ladies. Olivia Rodrigo started the race and passed the torch on to Sofia Wylie to finish. And man, did she finish it beautifully. I'm proud of both of them, the work they did on HSMTMTS, and look forward to what the future holds for them.

Hey!! (animeomegas here <3) I don't know anything about jjk, but I love actor AUs and I was wondering if you have any fun ideas for Naruto, the arcana or Mystic messenger? For some reason I've been imagining how a Mystic Messenger TV show would work and sketching out poster ideas for it 😫 This isn't really intended as a request, I just want to hear your stream of thought haha. Hope you've been having a wonderful day! <33
Hi @animeomegas I actually had a really long day but it was nice! I got a lot of things done. I hope you also had a good day ^^. So, okay okay okay you know I love casual stream of thought... and talking ahaha, and I also love behind the camera drama (I am also avoiding any wip work because 9+ hours at work fried the thesaurus bit of my brain)
Naruto
Naruto is such a specifically anime show. The budget for a complete 1:1 live action remake would probably make people so mad, there would have to be so much CGI for the final battle.
I feel like it could work for actors au as either:
1. Make Naruto a movie series. It's probably got a cult following like Star Wars and started off as some kind of original idea in the 70s and then got acquisitioned by a huge conglomerate in the 90s-2000s era, and had enough films (like the fast and furious franchises XD, so... eight at least) that it was able to cover all the material up until our time lol.
I actually went and reviewed the arcs because I love procrastination through research oop, but if you cut out/combine the filler arcs/turn them into serialized shows for streaming, you're left with enough material for about 3 movies from genin-days (when the actors Sasuke, Naruto, and Sakura age from 11-14) and 5 movies from the shippuden era (there the main trio actors age from 16-24)
Playing off that nostalgia factor, Jiraiya's actor either played Minato or Naruto in the 70s film. He's since become a very famous actor/producer/director. Kakashi's father also played Kakashi's character in the original 70s film, so having him return as Sakumo for the Pein arc was a little Easter egg. There's a couple of instances of this throughout the series. For example, Madara is actually played by the same actor who played Sasuke in the og series, and the makeup used to age him in the flashback arcs gets high praise. Hashirama is played by the same kid who played Rock Lee in the first films too. Tsunade was played by the same girl who was either Ino in the original, etc.
Kind of like marvel, there's a ton of actors who are only sort of or not very famous when the films start, and the kids are certainly no-name actors (kind of [Sakura reads to me like a former disney-channel kid lol]), and then as the films get wildly popular, the franchise gains the Midas touch and even all of the recurrent minor characters get arcs/spinoffs/or see further success in their careers.
And as with marvel, it truly becomes like... everyone famous in a certain generation was in the Naruto franchise.
Sasuke had some actual industry connections prior to casting, but that was only because his brother was a young up-and-coming model. They sort of spring-boarded one anothers' careers. Playing the franchise characters traumatized them oop, and irl they're very close. There's a noticeable uptick in viewership for compilation videos of the Uchiha brothers being best siblings after about movie 6 when Sasuke finally kills Itachi and movie 7's fight with Kabuto is one of the most watched clips ever.
Also marvel-esque, I think people have mixed opinions about the ending lol (just like they do the anime) because on one hand, explosions! amazing visual effects! the whole ensemble ready to assemble! stacked nostalgia value! answers to some of the most asked fandom questions! amazing physical feats (Naruto and by extension Sasuke mostly insist on doing their own stunts)! and on the other... you have some of the thousand story threads being lost in the sauce, lackluster characterization for a some of the ladies, leaning perhaps too much on nostalgia value, complete obliteration of power scaling, suddenly there's almost too much content, and you have to have watched all three spinoff series to understand some of the in-world references, also fighting between the original concept creator and head writer and the production teams :p (yes this is Io being too literal haha)
2nd option: The Naruto characters all belong to the same representative entertainment company (think SM or YG /pulls face because cabal culture disturbs me/). I think this is more like an idols AU, and the relationships are significantly more catty and have more drama, but they're all actors/other entertainment related career lol so it's also kind of actors au?
The company probably tried for a ninjas/powers theme during recruitment and promotion so that's where you get Kakashi associated with dogs and lightning, Sasuke associated with snakes and later hawks and fire, Naruto associated with frogs and wind, Sakura associated with slugs and healing, Itachi associated with crows and dreams, Haku associated with ice and mirrors, Sai associated with tigers and ink, Tenzo/Yamato associated with trees, Gaara associated with tanuki and sand etc.
Itachi and Sasuke have an infamous rivalry that never really "resolves" so much as disappears because Itachi retires for a few years to deal with physical and mental health issues. It would be during this time he goes public with a relationship and he gets married before making a comeback. Even after the brothers reconcile and do projects together, people still bring up their Fighting Era and it pisses Sasuke off because the public doesn't really know what happened and he hates the speculation. Part of the controversy is that Sasuke left the company only a few years after signing on, joined a small rival company that was later embroiled in scandal, and then returned to the same company as his brother right around the time Itachi took a break.
Kakashi is the oldest of the "new generation" that's promoted during that time, but he's a very successful child actor turned model and adult actor. He did a bunch of shows that have great repeat value though so he basically lives off residuals and picks his projects and is very obvious but rather quiet about the ways he critiques the current entertainment industry. He's very good friends with Tenzo, stagename Yamato
Haku is a musician first and an actor second. He made his debut as part of a short lived idol group before going solo and starting musical stages. He's an up and coming favorite for historical dramas.
Gaara and Naruto are child actors who have been best friends for ages and help one another work through the inevitable industry challenges. They separately become really popular role models for kids from their hometowns. Kankuro is Gaara's personal rock in the working world, even though Kankuro's bad-boy image and slightly freaky aesthetic don't surface level seem to match with Gaara's more reserved and authentic method of dealing with the constant press.
Shikamaru and Nagato both separately give me musician/model vibes, but in different genres. Shikamaru quits the music thing very quickly to become a producer lol because more math and less fighting with fickle public opinion.
Mystic Messenger
If you sketch the the poster idea you haaaave to post it, please pretty please Amy?? Because you're so right, the whole plot is absolutely like a thriller/romcom kdrama. (Because the characters are well fleshed out it could also work with preserving the character backstories but have them all have entered acting later on.)
I looked up some Kdrama posters and the one where the leads for "because this is my first life" are standing in a stylized apartment balcony reminded me somewhat of thee game, mostly because the MC is stuck in the apartment for a good portion of the seven days lol.
If the whole Mystic Messenger plot were a drama...
MC is probably a rookie actor with one or two well done but not widely distributed productions under their belt.
Yoosung was maybe a child-actor which makes the whole ingenue thing kind of funny for his fans. Like yes, this is his first "adult role" (his baby face means he otherwise plays a lot of high schoolers) but it's this odd mixture of experience meaning he plays the role perfectly, but lack of experience with normal people resulting in a lot of blushing and stammering and totally tunnel vision flirting during the press tour haha.
I'd love for Jumin to come from a similar but less severe situation as game-Jumin. Like maybe his father has remarried a bunch of times, but he actually gets along with the stepmother who's been his mother for most of his life and he takes her to premiers with him. He grew up poor so he finds playing a lot of wealthy heirs type characters because of his looks to be a very strange turn of events, but he overall doesn't talk about his past much in public.
Hmmm, Jaehee seems the type to play a lot of severe characters in her usual roles because of her appearance, but like game-Jaehee she's got a very cute and adorable side that's coupled with a very genuine personalty. The interviewers probably make her do a lot of aegyo T.T poor Jaehee. She probably also worked her way through a prestigious drama school, either in-country or abroad, so she loves to read.
Zen always offers to do the aegyo with Jaehee so she doesn't have to suffer alone haha. He on the other hand never went to drama school, he's been acting since he was about 17 so all his training was in-company, although his company helped to put him through college where he did an advertising and media degree. He didn't have the exposure Jaehee did to classical media and arts, so they are irl very good friends who bond over their interest in business and Zen's interest in gaining a deeper understanding of acting and theater.
I see 707 as the person who was probably an idol musician before he started acting and mostly left group music behind. I've never played his route through, but he seems like the kind of person who is sometimes frustratingly talented lol. He is a natural at almost everything he tries which sometimes stresses him out because he wonders if there's something else he should be doing besides acting.
V seems like the kind of person however who was maybe a model first, and then turned to acting? I hate to say this, but it's the kind of situation where his incredible looks and sweet irl personality have garnered him a very devoted following but his parts in dramas tend to be second-string or somewhat minor or... kind of weird lol, and when he is the lead the show is usually only "okay" because the writing will be strange 😅 which is technically not his fault, but to be honest most of his income comes from promotional deals.
You like Saeran, right? so I won't leave him out! He's got this doe-eyed look that makes me think of a new debut actor! This is also one of his first major roles so he and MC lean on each other a lot and have to work hard to make sure their relationship off-screen is comfortable because they have so many scary intense scenes later on. He and 707 are either irl siblings, or just because so close during filming that they're truly like brothers now and 707 is always seen supporting Saeran, especially when Saeran decides to venture into the music scene and his vocal style and color means he explodes into popularity almost right away.
The Arcana
Somehow I can see this becoming an HBO drama? or maybe an Akuzon special because it's very good about placing lgbtq themes in-world (which was sort of groundbreaking when the game debuted). This one is so hard because each route gradually ended up diverging so much and in such different ways and expanding on the world in such a rewarding diversity of directions that you could truly have a beautiful, successful show no matter what route was filmed.
You could potentially have a Witcher-type situation where you really do have multiple routes and timeline splitting. If someone who's got a really good editing team working with a really tight writing team I think they could do it.
But otherwise, this is another situation where the main cast has had friend configurations for a While and doing this project brought them all closer together!
Ilya and Asra have known one another probably the longest industry-wise. They did a smaller well received indie film once about five years before Arcana with the vaguest of nods to brokeback mountain (I've never seen it, sorry) but a much happier road trip lovers plot, so having to play disillusioned, one-sided pining ex-lovers who had a very toxic last year to their relationship is... something XD.
Asra and Muriel have been personal friends since their days as students - they went to the same camps and programs to study acting and in their interviews, they have a fun time talking about some personal anecdotes (like the fact they did indeed frequently camp at a lakeside together as children) which made it into their own characters' backstories.
Nadia and Lucio are very Nikolaj/Gwendoline during their press and off-screen interactions. They find their characters' personas to be sort of hilariously poorly matched.
Portia is a famously hard working actress who clawed her way through the world of cinema and still managed to stay a decent, well grounded person. She's not actually related to Ilya irl but they got along really well from the beginning so there's lots of videos of them acting like siblings off screen.
Because the on-site shoots for Arcana required so much travel, the cast got to spend a lot of bonding time together, and saw a ton of unique places. The cast always has stories of swimming and hiking or trying new food or pictures of each other at famous sites during their days off. Muriel is actually the one who plans the outdoor adventures the best, he was an athlete and had military training before becoming an actor and he loves being outside so he'll lead these kinds of outings. People adore his social media because he's got that outdoors guy vibe but he's very sweet and he smiles a lot more irl than his roles usually do.
Portia and Julian are the most likely to get lost in any place, but they're also super fun to travel with because they always find interesting people and places that are off the beaten path.
Nadia and Asra have the most normal but also most aesthetic social media feeds. They always seem able to catch the golden hour light somehow...
After Arcana, they each often end up cast in or around the same movies/franchises/series as well, because they do work very well together. The show also helped them break out of some type casting, to their delight.
Lucio trends towards action and romcom films, he does often get typecast as some kind of villain, but his redemption arc in Arcana actually helped him break into more of the antihero type roles. He can be adorably goofy at times.
Nadia used to play the femme fatale quite frequently but since Arcana she's been able to take on softer roles, still often playing a woman in power, but she's been able to mix and cross genres. She also has been working on a screenplay and wants to try directing.
Portia was famous before Arcana but the show helped enter her into some of the more mainstream conversation and she has her first action-type role soon after Arcana ends.
Asra has a delicate physique and had some trouble in the past with being passed over roles that required more "force of presence" in the past. However, since showing his side as the secretive, enigmatic, manipulative magician, he's been able to try on the hats of villains, return to some roles on the true stage (his first love), and play the lead in a more serious political thriller.
Muriel had the opposite problem with his large build often precluding him from anything but action films. Since Arcana he's been able to try a few romantic lead parts, and has embraced his popularity by searching out meaningful mid-budget films where he can broaden his talents.
Julian is very tall, so he used to play quite a few more domineering, dastardly types in the films he did before Arcana. The show also brought him into the spotlight. He still does well as the sneering, dangerous, tall and dark type, but he's found that he can and is willing to push for playing something softer, someone who follows instead of leads in the on-screen dynamics. You and Ilya end up in a bodyguard type of drama at some point where he spends a lot of time on his knees swearing his devotion and playing a lot of subtext lol.
MC in this seems like they would have been a more experienced actor before taking on the linchpin role for Arcana, but the show granted you the experience to step into other roles both in front of and behind the camera and we'll probably see an MC directed and produced short film or indie film within the next few years!

From what I've seen online, the major consensus amongst HP fans is that Cursed Child is NOT canon ( and many simply pretend it doesn't exist). I remember when it first came out and was being promoted, both the stage show and the published script, and everyone was really excited for new HP material... until we realised that it just... wasn't canon... at all. Yeah, the idea of Voldemort as presented in the HP novels having any sort of romantic relationship with Bellatrix and having a child is simply ridiculous and certainly just exists as a way for him to have a secret child for reasons of the wacky plot... it's very tween fanfic and also very Disney channel sequel (like the og villains all having kids we never heard about is totally a real Disney channel thing).
I remember it being very clear at the time that it came out that any "pointers" or "ideas" JKR provided to the actual writer of CC must've been the very barest of bones, the tiniest of shards perhaps, because it simply read like a sort of AU fanfiction written by the most casual of fans... which, as I understand, it really was. At the time when it came out, it was pretty clear that she had very little to do with actually writing it, though I suppose more was made later of her 'involvement' to legitimise it. I heard since that someone asked her if it should be considered canon, and she said yes? Not sure how this interaction actually went down as I don't particularly care to look into it (since nothing will change my mind that the AU of CC makes no sense within the context of HP canon and lore and it was probably some kind of marketing tactic in support of the stage play) but as she clearly didn't actually write CC herself and it contradicts many things from the books she did write, I'm pretty happy to continue ignoring its existence.
What do you think of Fantastic Beasts in comparison? Personally, I put Fantastic Beasts in a separate category where I can kind of accept aspects of it as canon expansions of the lore and worldbuilding... I can see JKR's style clearly and the inconsistencies with timelines and certain characters being in places and times they shouldn't be don't bother me as much as the straight up character assassination we see in CC. To put it another way, I think CC feels like it belongs to a totally different IP and was written by a different author (because it was) while FB definitely still exists in Rowling's wizarding world, it's just the timeline is kinda off.
this is interesting context. I think she kind of has to say yes to that question in context, because like... who's going to shill out £150 to see some random dude's AU fanfiction play (if it isn't even good)? of course, JKR's stamp isn't nothing, but even she can't weld extra content into the canon by declaring it so. i see TCC like church ephemera: i'm sure SOMEONE finds it interesting or relevant to what we're doing here, but that doesn't mean it's part of the Bible.
i feel the same way about fantastic beasts, but to a lesser extent. i actually enjoyed the first fantastic beasts movie, i thought it was playful and charming and (with the exception of the dumb polyjuice plot) the perfect way to revive harry potter as a storytelling vehicle. like, yeah, it fucked up by trying to go too big too soon, but if you can remove one (1) subplot or narrative thread and have a solid movie, then as a writer, you've still done okay.
Fantastic Beasts also annoys me because it does feel like harry potter, in terms of tone and mouthfeel. it's got the sauce. it just heinously drops the ball in later installations. in particular, it starts getting nervous about holding the audience's attention and throws stuff in that just wouldn't make it in a natural, organic script — most of the shit from the original series is contrived and ill-suited to the dramatic tenor set by Movie About Funny Man Collecting Magical Animals. (e.g. going back to hogwarts? leta lestrange's secret white father revengeplot triple-rugpull? human nagini?? secret undead dumbledore brother raised by american evangelicals???). i like the idea of it very much. i'm honestly drawn to it as a creative space, because unlike TCC, there is potential there. it's just badly abused.

A bullet point list of things I have observed thus far about the new writers’ strike, in no particular order:
now is a bad time to be seeking a writing job because corporations respect no one
now is a bad time to have been fired from my existing writing job because no one is hiring or even sending you an f u you didn’t get the job
seeing as how I was fired for sticking to my principles, good on these writers
the fun thing about capitalism is that these strikes work, you don’t get gunned down for your trouble like you would in, say, china
people really out here saying eff capitalism when it’s legit the only system where the bourgeoisies dictate the market instead of the proletariat
meantime socialism is for the corporations to get fat
but I digress
Jay Leno is delivering donuts to the writers on strike, which he did before
also I remember the OG strike, he mentioned then that he was writing his own monologues and kept waking his wife up at odd hours to pitch the jokes to her
TIL that Doctor Horrible’s Singalong Blog was written during the OG writers’ strike, this is amusing to me because Full Sail used it to teach students how to write scripts
corps really do be underestimating people’s backlogs
people be realizing that hard copies are desirable for a reason
laughing because we’re going into summer, when people won’t be watching TV anyway
really happy that people are finally channeling the energy of the captain from Wall-E, i.e., “I don’t want to survive, I want to LIVE”
I have legit watched no new TV since Big Hero 6: the Series went off the air and seeing what disney is doing makes me glad BH6 avoided that bullet
Thanks to the great pause of 2020 people have realized that yeah, we can wait for new if the new is good, no we don’t have the spare funds to pay for garbage
We got DVD copies of shows that are 10+ seasons long and crates of movies to watch, we’re fine
I got milk crates full of books I got from when all the bookstores in my area shut down for various reasons (stupid-high land rent being one of them) and games I haven’t even tried yet, plus I write
Fanfictions will be getting an upswing soon, I’m guessing
also I finally started playing DST with friends, that’s fun
we have a new puppy who is 1000% more entertaining than what’s on the TV
also torrents and downloads exist if the thing doesn’t have a DVD release
on that happy note, if anyone knows a link to the full series of shows like Tangled, Amphibia and the like please hit me up
I got BH6: the series downloaded I need others
Please send your money to the indie companies and the small businesses and individual artists instead of the corporations
yes you can vote with your wallet and it would be wise to do so
Also make sure it’s like an actual indie company instead of, you know, game freak
It’s a multi-billion dollar franchise, they can afford to hire more workers to keep their existing ones from dropping dead in the traces, they just…don’t
say it with me: there are other games in the monster-capture genre, I do not need to pay for a substandard unfinished game that literally kills people
Appealing to the one-percents alienates the majority money, trying to turn around to get the majority money alienates the one-percents, people prefer genuine jerks over two-faced shills
I’ve had the opportunity to work in California and New York before and passed it over because the cost of living versus what I would make would have me living in my car and I don’t want to get murdered
Yes John Lasseter slept under his desk but he was also heading a new company specializing in an art form in its infancy, also I bet his office had a lock
And the fact that people are abandoning Hollywood for Las Vegas, AKA sin city, should tell you everything about Hollywood that needs to be said
Focusing only on checklists to please the DIE, blackrock, vanguard, and the esg means soulless material that has no return on investment
No writers means no material to act for means no one works, considering how everyone is expected to work to the bone I fail to see a problem with them not working
love the fact that no new stuff means people will go to the old stuff and finally realize that no, it’s not the nostalgia filter talking, things were literally made better back in the day
There’s so much genuine indie stuff being put straight online by creators that Hollywood will hopefully die its much-needed death
also disney please die already it’s unpleasant watching the corpse flail about
On that happy note I’m working on new stuff and updating my old stuff, stay tuned and friendly reminder that I have both a ko-fi and Patreon
Also college debt

i didn't watch the idol and never will because wtf but i'll always feel such a loss for it especially regarding the original director, amy's version, it was much more on a female gaze perspective and were primarily for women but then sam and abel fucked it up and idk, i just mourn what we, what i could've had because i was waiting for it too and just now i saw leaked photos of the og cut and to think that it would've had a britney spears in the 90s and disney channel stars aesthetic and backstory just made me want to cry, i heard that the show would've still had a dark story (probably about the struggles of being a child star and how that affected jocelyn when she's older) but it definitely would've slayfully worked that way instead of whatever we got now
release the amy cut fr, someone on twt said they can call that version "the star" instead idk whatever works just do please, and it would've been so perfect, right before the barbie movie too, it could've been the perfect summer series sensation
LIKE, JUST LOOK AT THIS, LOOK AT THE MATERIAL:

i remember past me having given the trailer the benefit of the doubt until all the articles and reviews came flooding in 🥲

nice ask week
hi D! it's nice ask week! What made you start watching LS and what was it about the show that made you spiral into fandom?
Hi Rae! Thanks for the question! 💗 Apologies for how long this took me to answer. Work took over my life this week 😢 Now buckle in for a stupidly long story 😅
Firstly, I had watched the original 911s first and half of its 2nd season whenever they aired (2018/19 thanks Wikipedia) and then totally forgot all about it because again #life 😅 I did hear about a spin off whenever they announced it but I guess the only info was that it was coming soon. Wikipedia is helping out and it seems it was May 2019. I didn’t really pay it much mind because by then I had already stopped watching the og.
So I move on with my life and don’t think about either series until September 2022. I saw a youtube clip of a scene: the throwing each other against the wall hookup from 1x02. I watched it and I was like.. OH?!👀🔥🥵 Saved it to my YouTube watch later and again forgot all about it because back then I was doing full time shift work and had no time to breathe let alone watch anything new 😂 (kicking myself because I could’ve been here a year ago) 😭
Cut to this year. I can give you an exact date i rediscovered 911 verse. May 17th 2023!! 🥳 All because of the Tarlos wedding.
Twitter is probably the platform I use the most cos it’s got all my sports content😅 Anyway I happened to be on the discover/trending tab and one of the top hashtags was #TarlosWedding which was airing that day. I clicked it to investigate and scrolled through. It was full of pics and fanvids of the wedding and again I was like OH 👁👁. I liked a bunch of the tweets to revisit and moved on with my day. A few days later because I had liked all that stuff, Twitter keeps recommending me more content. So I find myself back on YouTube and watched these:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and then a series of random scenes and I was like... okay I need full context for all of this. Another month passes and it’s probably end of June/early July and I’m like let me see if this is available anywhere to watch in Australia. I find it on Disney+ and they have seasons 1-3. This is finally when I watched the show. And then I could not stop thinking about it. S4 is no where to be found though. So I google and see it’s halfway through airing on Channel 7 here which means it won’t be uploaded to Disney+ for a while. So then I’m like UGH 😒😩😤 I wanted to binge the whole season like I had for the others. I kept tabs on when it would finish airing on TV and eventually the finale airs August 14th. The next day I start it and binge the whole season on 7Plus over a few days.
Now that I had seen their entire story so far, I was full blown hyper fixating. Like they’re on my mind ALL the time. I’m reading a book or watching a movie/show and thinking about Tarlos in place of the characters. I’m listening to a song or reading a poem/lyric and being like oh that’s so Tarlos coded😂😂 At this point i’m like oh no 😅😅 The fandom life is coming for me.
Then the biggest surprise of all I start getting the urge to write fanfic again! Which is insane because I had not written anything in (redacted) years. Like nearly every time as I was about to sleep, I start having ideas and rambling it out in my notes app at stupid hours like 2am 😂😅
Next we have the writers/actors strike and I’m like 👀trust me to find a new obsession and everyone is on strike and I’m gonna get nothing new for ages. Then I remember AO3 is a thing that exists and find my way to the 911 Lone Star tag and start reading fic again. Any spare moment I had I was itching to read whatever I could get my eyeballs on. I said to you the other day that I read your gym!AU first and look I might’ve read a random 1k word one shot or two but nothing I can actually remember like yours 😂🥵 I think the added pictures and texts made it so memorable because 1. I did not know you could do that on AO3 2. Rafael is like the hottest guy I’ve ever seen 😅😅 and 3. It was just so damn good 🥵 Sm*t with feelings and I am there. You teased the feelings a little and if/when (no pressure btw) you decide to revisit this universe just know I’ll be first in line 🙋🏼‍♀️ and the reason I can recall it as the first is it’s the oldest AO3 tab saved to my safari reading list 😅
By this point I’m reading fic through the end of August and September constantly. A few I read had peoples Tumblr links in the end notes so then I remember that Tumblr also exists 😂 I come over and lurk, explore the tags, look at all the beautiful gifs, look at a few peoples blogs and make a mental note to maybe join Tumblr again. I had 2 blogs back in hs, 1 fandom specific blog that got abandoned during my last year of hs and a sports/tv-series one I used a little in the years after hs but then again #life and I didn’t touch it after like 2016.
Come September 2023. I made a new email, signed up to Tumblr again, and requested an AO3 invite. Learning how to use this site again was wild because so much had changed since I last used it. I saw something about getting mistaken for bots so I spent a little time making the blog look nice and like an actual person exists before I bothered to follow anyone or any tags. October rolls around and I finally start using it every day and now I’m here with all of y’all 💗
Sorry for the extremely long story and again sorry for how long it took 😅😅

Spider-Man The Animated Series (1994)
I tried to follow the show's art style and also used references from the ToyBiz toyline because I felt like it gave the show its own identity.
I recently rewatched the show, along with X-Men: The Animated Series since last year.
Not as good as Spectacular Spider-Man, but it definitely the best superhero animated adaptations in terms of faithfulness to the OG comics.
I distinctly remember watching this show on Disney Channel in my country when they aired a " Movie " called Spider-Man: The Ultimate Villain showdown around 2008-2009. It is not a movie, it is a compilation of 4 episodes of the show with barely any connection to justify it as a "Movie".
Hopefully this show can come back if X-Men 97 is successful.

I know it wasn’t on your list, but I’m asking anyway. my man Darkwing Duck for character bingo please 😋 (the original obviously, not the new Ducktales one 😝)
Tumblr media
Honestly, I should have put Disney Ducks generally on the list but didn't, so thanks for this one!
So, OG Darkwing. Darkwing Duck was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid, buuut I was a little bit too young to see a lot of episodes in the original run (and that's besides the whole thing where certain episodes only aired on ABC and other ones only aired on the Disney Channel) and ended up catching most of them on reruns a few years later. (I also didn't realize that tv schedules were a thing until I was about twelve, so...yeeeaahh). But, being a bit of a completionist, I did a full rewatch of the whole original series a few years ago (and then did another one a bit ago in episode production order because I don't know but this is what I do I guess), and you know what? Darkwing is kind of a jerk. He's a self-aggrandizing, egotistical, headline-obsessed asshole who's exactly three bad choices from going full supervillian on everyone at all times, and it's great because he does usually get around to doing the right thing for the right reason in spite of that. It might take a couple anvils to the head every episode, but he does get there, and gosh darn it if he doesn't turn his whole life upside down to be a dad because he met a kid who needed a home.
Seriously, the Darkwing and Gosalyn dynamic kills me, because it's literally the "I've only had X for five minutes but if something happened to them, I'd kill everyone in the room and myself." They've both got really strong personalities, so they play off of each other really well, and the thing I like most about it is that Darkwing genuinely doesn't know how to be a dad (or be around people much, really), so even though he's trying, he screws up a lot, is shown to be in the wrong when he does, and then manages to course correct when he gets (sometimes literally) hit over the head with how he messed up and makes things right.
And you know what else? I wish the Batman vs Superman movie was like "Tiff of the Titans." Darkwing and Gizmoduck are so dang petty, it's a delight.
Also, it's hard to dislike a guy who's go to method of combat is to shout nonsense and then launch himself bodily at the villain. And the outfit slaps. And I'm a sucker for slapstick comedy. (Also uncut version of "Darkly Dawns the Duck" released when I want that intro scene back)

Disney+'s High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, set to debut its fourth and final season August 9, has always been unusually meta. Rather than continue with the plot and story of the original Disney Channel film trilogy, series creator and Broadway alum Tim Federle had a, perhaps, unlikely idea: a series set at the actual school where the original High School Musical movies were filmed that follows fictional "real" students as they mount their own production of High School Musical's stage adaptation.
Granted, it's hard to explain. But none of that mattered once the show premiered in 2019. Federle created a series that was able to both honor and lovingly drag the original franchise, all while putting his own spin on the uniquely hilarious world of high school theatre. As anyone who has been in one can attest, there is maybe no place where the stakes are higher than when mounting a high school musical.
"I always thought Waiting for Guffman was the model," said Federle, talking to us just days before the SAG-AFTRA strike began, as did all the actors who spoke with us for this piece. (Waiting for Guffman is, of course, director Christopher Guest's seminal cult-favorite, mockumentary-style film about a small Missouri town mounting an original musical that they spuriously believe might just be Broadway bound.) "There's something really funny about people putting on a show, because it feels so high stakes when it's you. And it's actually just a show."
And, Federle knows this first hand. Being a big-time TV writer is at least his fourth career, following performances on Broadway in the ensembles of Gypsy, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Little Mermaid, and Billy Elliot: The Musical; becoming a young adult novel writer, most famously of his Nate series; and writing the book to Broadway's 2016 musical Tuck Everlasting. Federle is a true theatre kid, and when he was assembling the team for his take on the High School Musical franchise, he looked for the same.
"The ethos for the show was always, always 'bet on the underdogs—and always bet on theatre kids,'" says Federle. "So many of my heroes in the world come from the world of theatre. Theatre people are the best people. We 'smile when we are low.' Theatre teaches you how to show up for your scene partner and perform even if you're in a bad mood." That ethos led to the show becoming somewhat of a talent incubator. What began as a cast of relative unknown young actors in 2019 is, as of 2023, a group that counts international pop star sensations Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett and Tony-nominated Broadway Into the Woods star Julia Lester among its ranks. "These were all kids who grew up doing theatre, and I think that that really paid off in the show because they brought not just that talent, but also that work ethic. Now we're chasing them around the world as they are nominated for and winning things and going on world tours," Federle shares proudly.
Julia Lester, poised to follow up her stage successes in Broadway's Into the Woods and Center Theatre Group's The Secret Garden with an Off-Broadway turn in a revival of I Can Get it For You Wholesale, naturally agrees. "I think the show from day one has been sort of set up to be this very authentic look into real theatre kids lives," she says. "I think just from day one, getting to be a part of this, and being a real theatre kid brought something to the show that I think sort of gave it its magic."
Federle has insured that this take on High School Musical is fully authentic to the theatre kid experience, which in 2023 means the show features several openly queer characters. In 2019, that seemed like a natural choice and easy to celebrate. In the political climate of 2023, it has become a brave, bold, and vital choice. Queer people and queer stories are the newest punching bag at schools across the nation, but the kids at High School Musical's East High are learning the importance of living their truth—and of finding and cultivating safe spaces. As many queer kids know, the drama club is often one of the better examples of that.
"I love the way our show has handled the queer storylines," says Frankie A. Rodriguez, who plays Carlos—one of East High's queer students—on the series. "It's all about we champion you for being who you are, and we encourage it. It's amazing to have not had that growing up and now literally be it. It's been very special." And it's not just the "real" kids of East High. In Federle's vision of the High School Musical franchise, the very queer coded but ultimately closeted Ryan from the original film series, played by Lucas Grabeel, has become officially queer, kissing his male partner on screen in the season's opening moments.
"I hope those audience members who are questioning or discovering or hiding understand that there's always room for them at the table of theatre kids—whether they literally join theatre or not," Federle says. "The lesson of this show is if you can find one mentor to take your hand and say I see you, you're no longer alone, and the world needs you—you're going to find your people."
Speaking of Lucas Grabeel's return to the series, the show's fourth and final season is leaning even more into the meta spirit in which it was created. The eight episodes track the "real" kids of East High as they mount a production of High School Musical 3: Senior Year while a [sadly fictional for now] High School Musical 4 reunion movie is being filmed on campus. That last bit gave the series the perfect opportunity to bring in some exciting cameos from the High School Musical OGs, including Grabeel, Broadway favorite Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman, Bart Johnson, and Kaycee Stroh.
But there's another High School Musical cameo that will—or at least should—be the most important to Playbill readers: Alyson Reed. Perhaps best known as the cell phone-hating, eccentric East High drama teacher Ms. Darbus, Reed is bonafide Broadway royalty from a generation or two ago. She made her Broadway debut in the original run of Bob Fosse's Dancin' and went on to appear in a string of Broadway shows. She starred as Marilyn Monroe in the short-lived 1983 non-Smash Monroe biomusical Marilyn, and Sally Bowles in the first Broadway revival of Cabaret, sharing the stage with Joel Grey as he reprised his Tony- and Oscar-winning performance as The Emcee. Reed also played Cassie on the national tour of A Chorus Line, and when the 1985 film adaptation rolled around, she was tapped to bring her performance to the screen.
High School Musical's young fans might not be as aware of Reed's pre-Ms. Darbus pedigree, but with true Broadway fan Federle in charge, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is, of course, making sure to change that. "When she was on set with the kids, they, of course, know her as as Ms. Darbus, but I sat them in a circle and I was like, 'We're going to pull up YouTube, and you are going to watch her do "Let Me Dance for You" [Cassie's big number in the Chorus Line film].' We watched her performance, and they were gagged." In Federle's High School Musical universe, Reed has taken her rightful spot as the franchise's biggest star and the most pivotal character of the High School Musical 4 reunion film.
"When she looks you in the eyes, you get chills," says Rodriguez of his scenes with Reed. "She should wear a crown 24/7. People should kiss her feet," adds Lester.
Federle has educated the children.

Wednesday: A Review
So I recently watched the Wednesday series on Netflix and I have some thoughts 😂. I first got into the Addams family back in 2020(it was in fact one of my quarantine obsessions lol) and when I found out Netflix was making a series with Wednesday, I was intrigued but also a little nervous. Anyway I eventually watched the series and after watching it, I think I’m going to give it a 5.5-6/10(the 5.5-6 sort of depends on my feelings at the moment lol). So, here I’ll talk about what I liked, didn’t like, and what I hope to see in future seasons. Warning that this post is rather critical of the show at times, so read at your own risk 😝.
Cut for spoilers/long post
What I Liked
Jenna Ortega: It’s probably blatantly obvious, but Jenna Ortega was easily the best part of the entire seasons. She gave a phenomenal performance and while I definitely saw some similarities to Christina Ricci’s performance, Jenna was still able to bring out another side to Wednesday as well. I haven’t seen Jenna since her Disney Channel days and this showed that she really has what it takes to be a great actress. And it should go without saying- but the dance scene was iconic 😂
Wednesday and Enid’s friendship: I genuinely really liked the dynamic between these two girls. The actresses both had great chemistry with each other and although I sometimes think the dark/broody with the cheerful/peppy character can be a bit overused, I really liked it in this case. The scene at the end where they hug was really touching and I’d love to see those two interact even more. I’m not entirely sure how I feel about those two in a relationship(mainly because I feel like Wednesday isn’t interested in anyone…more on that later), but I will say that I would rather have them be in a relationship than that boring love triangle we got.
Christina Ricci/Ms Thornhill: I really enjoyed her character in this series. I thought it was really cool that they got the 90s Wednesday for the series and that she actually had an important part to play in the series. I will also admit that I hadn’t really expected her to be one of the villains, so that was a good twist for me. (Side note: I also think it would have been cool if Lisa Loring(aka the Og Wednesday) got a cameo too, but I digress lol). Christina Ricci did a really great job and I especially enjoyed her scenes with Wednesday and when she really showed her villainous side at the end.
The opening credits: 🤷‍♀️ What can I say? I’m a sucker for cool opening credits and this show delivered on that lol.
Tyler/the Hyde: So I didn’t really like the love triangle thing at all, but I did find Tyler being the Hyde interesting to me and honestly I think it would be cool to see the origins of him becoming a Hyde in future seasons. Idk if that would result in him being redeemed per say, but I think the show implies that he is not really aware of what he is doing as the Hyde. And even if he doesn’t get redeemed(I could see the show going either way tbh), I still think that part of him could be explored. At the very least I found that aspect of him more compelling than his “relationship” with Wednesday(again more on that later lol)
Thing: He may be just a hand, but he was very entertaining and I enjoyed his scenes with Wednesday and Enid quite a bit.
What I Didn’t Like
The Addams Family Dynamics: One of my favorite things about the Addams Family is that for all their creepy and macabre interests- at the core this is a family that really loves each other. They have one of the most wholesome family bonds I’ve ever seen and you can tell that the members of the family really care for one another. I…didn’t really get this feeling in the show. I understand that Wednesday is a teenager here, but I feel like having her be so against her parents is honestly just really dull and not true to the original characters. Wednesday and Morticia are usually shown to be close, but this series drove a wedge between them that I didn’t really appreciate. I also didn’t get why Morticia and Gomez would be so against Wednesday knowing about what Morticia did. It seemed OOC for me as judging from what we’ve seen from the Addams family previously- murder is not exactly on their red flags list(*glances at the movies from the 90s*). There was a bit more familial solidarity with Wednesday and Pugsley, but we really don’t see those two interact all that much. I understand that this is a show about Wednesday primarily, but I really didn’t really enjoy her dynamics with her family in the show(where normally it’s one of my favorite things in most of the other adaptions(animated movies aside lol) )
The Love Triangle: Good grief, did this nearly bore me to tears lol. For starters- I’m just tired of love triangles in general. 9 times out of 10, I can already predict who will “win” and it’s also just an overdone plot point by now. In this case, it was made worse because Wednesday literally shows no interest in either Xander or Tyler. And so I was struggling to see how those two could think she liked either one of them, because she only seemed to tolerate them at best. It also didn’t help that I wasn’t super interested in those two as characters(I became more interested in Tyler upon the Hyde reveal, but that was towards the end) let alone as love interests. I also think that Wednesday showed no real romantic feelings towards anyone and that if she was going to be with anyone it should be with Enid, because those two at least had good chemistry.
Wednesday being an Outsider: I’m going to be honest- I found it weird that at a school filled with werewolves, Sirens, and who knows what else- Wednesday was the outsider? This entire school is filled with people who are out of the ordinary and so one would think that weirdness is expected from everyone. I honestly think it would have been more interesting if people in the school were more accepting of Wednesday, because I think that could have led her to interact more with the characters at Nevermore. That also could’ve led to some more character development for the secondary characters, because outside of a few characters at the school- I didn’t really get the chance to care all that much for Wednesday’s classmates. They just didn’t really interest me all that much and the whole “Wednesday being an outsider” thing didn’t really help.
The Social Media References: Okay look. I know the show is set in modern days and as the Addams family often interacts with the regular world, they’re going to have to take note of that stuff. However in this case- the mentions of Instagram and TikTok only served to make me cringe than anything else. It also felt like it would make the show seem too outdated while in the movies and OG series case- they felt timeless. Yes it’s obvious that the OG series and the movies are set in the 60s and 90s respectively, but every time I watch those again, I never really get the outdated sense from them. However, in the series a lot of the modern “shout outs” were a little off putting and I feel like in a few years, it could really end up dating the series. Also since most of the show has a supernatural theme to it, I’ll admit that hearing stuff about Instagram or Tiktok could throw me for a loop at turns lol.
The CWness of it: Another reason why this show didn’t speak super highly to me is because it felt very CW in some ways. I felt like at times they leaned into the whole mystery/teen drama a little too much and I didn’t get the same macabre/spooky feeling I normally get from the Addams family. Rather at times I felt like I was just watching a CW show (just with more supernatural stuff lol)
Wednesday’s Classmates: With the exception of Enid and sometimes Xavier, Ajax, and Bianca, I wasn’t all that interested in the other characters. They didn’t really feel all that developed to me and when Wednesday enlists their help later on, the scene didn’t impact me all that much because I didn’t really feel like we got to see their relationship develop very well. It also seemed like a few of them(Ajax and Xavier mainly lol) existed mainly in terms of love interests which sort of stinks, because I didn’t really get a chance to care for them as individuals. I think it would have been more interesting if we could have seen Wednesday interact more with her other classmates or if they just got more characterization in general.
What I Hope To See
Better Family Dynamics: I’d love it if we could see Wednesday having a healthier relationship in any future seasons(like she does in other versions) and I’d also find it interesting to explore more of Enid’s family and her relationships with them as well.
More Development for Tyler: I found the reveal of Tyler being the Hyde to be rather interesting and more compelling than his “relationship” with Wednesday. I think exploring the Hyde side of him could be an interesting route to explore.
More Development for Bianca: She was one of the few classmates I found intriguing and I hope the show can do more with her. She also seems to have a complicated relationship with her mother and complicated familial relationships are kind of my jam(if my other favorite tv shows are any indication 😂)
Less Teen Drama(Aka no more love triangle): It should go without saying, but honestly the love triangle was just really overdone and forced and made the show seem a lot more CW than necessary. And I don’t even hate all CW shows, but it could make this series seem a little flat at times. I found the whole idea of a magical/supernatural school to be really cool and I think it would be better if they stuck more to the supernatural/mystery aspect of it all.
Anyway, that’s all my thoughts on the show for now. I honestly didn’t hate it or anything and I totally agree that Jenna Ortega was a fantastic Wednesday and she gave an exceptional performance.  I must admit that I am a bit wary now about any future seasons, but I liked it well enough to see a Season 2 :)
