New Lumity book (sneak peek)

Either way, imma share a sneak peek to my new Lumity story! It is based around the newly released episode 10, so it contains spoilers!!! I only have the prologue so far, but soon it will be posted to Wattpad alongside my other works. (If you haven't seen my wattpad its @AmityTheGayQueen ) I'm thinking of calling the book 'A cold place', but i'm not sure yet. Anyways! Enough of my blabbering, hope you enjoy!! (Warning: contains spoilers, nearly drowning, and spoilers!!!)

Luz beamed with a laugh. “Okay.” She promised.

She took a few hesitant steps forwards. The moment she stepped through this door, it would determine everything. Including if she would ever get to see her mom’s smile again…

She took in a deep breath, before slowly letting it rush back out again. She merely wished that she had gotten to see Amity one more time before trying to do this. There was a huge risk using an incomplete portal like this, it was definitely unstable and wouldn’t likely hold for too long. Besides… if it hadn’t been for the pink haired witch, she’d have never gotten this chance to do this.

‘To fix things...for good’ she thought to herself.

Even though she couldn’t have her girlfriend standing here by her side to cheer her on and support her, just imagining her boosted her courage. She stared into the misshapen door, the contents looking to be a galaxy of a thousand gleaming suns, flashing and spiraling with golden light. She couldn’t help but think of Amity’s eyes when she looked at them.

“That’s it… this isn’t scary. Just think of Amity.” She sighed softly under her breath.

With a familiar smile beaming in her head, she tightened the rope a bit around her waist before accepting that everything was in place.

“I’m coming mamma, te vemos pronto” she hummed softly.

She waved to her friends, hiding her fearful anxiety with a fierce smile, before taking her first step through the cold wall of stars.

“Okay mom… I promise” Luz sobbed, giving in to the rope pulling her away from the home she had longed for, for so long, yet couldn’t even touch.

Tears trailed down her face, a matching set streaming down her mother, Cammilla’s cheeks. Their fingers drifted apart, agonizingly slow, yet she wanted to hold on as long as she could. She matched her mother’s beautiful brown eyes with her own gaze, her heart breaking in her chest with every sob that Camilla choked out. She didn’t want to go… but she had no choice.

“MOM!” She cried as the face she had fought to see disappeared, leaving her floating in a confusing world of nothing but sharp stone, strange cubes and reflections. It had always been a cold world, ever since she first set foot here.

She was pulled back down towards the dark waters, golden lights sparking off of her skin as it made contact with the unknown substance. She held her breath as she was yanked under the surface. And yet, she didn’t notice it until it was far too late as the only way back loosened around her waist.

She blinked in surprise, yelping in alarm only to suck in some of the cold blackness around her. Choking, she grabbed at the rope as it quickly descended out of her reach into the deep darkness.

“NO!” she choked out, but her voice was muffled as pain burst inside her chest. Maybe if she had held her breath she could have dared to dive down after her last hope, but now she was left with no choice but up.

She struggled as she kicked and clawed towards the surface, desperate to breathe in a lungful of air and be rid of the stabbing pain in her chest. ‘I am NOT going to die like this, I’m not going to leave them!’ She thought firmly, yet in the back of her mind was nothing but doubt.

Left with failure and the firm belief that she really was destined to drown in this place where her body would forever be lost, she used the last of her strength in a final struggle. Feeling something smooth meet her hands, she pressed back against it as her hands slid through with ease. She pulled herself up onto solid ground, golden light flying as she collapsed.

It took her a few painful minutes to cough and choke all of the stuff back up. She was left feeling tired, cold, and alone. She curled up, trembling as she looked around in defeat. The rope was gone now, that was for certain.

She knew the smart thing to do was to try and contact Edalyn, and get help. Maybe even Camilla would have some enlightenment but… She couldn’t. It was as if her body had been pumped full of lead, weighing her down despite her efforts to fight back against it. She could feel something closing in on her mind as she finally gave in.

“Eda…” She whimpered tiredly, collapsing forward onto the smoothe ground beneath her as blackness filled her vision and pulled her away.

Patreon Membership Drive: Turbo Championship Hyper Fighting Edition!

Hello all you happy people! For those wondering “who the hell is this.” I”m Jake Mattingly. I review animation and comics here on this tumblr 5 times a week, and love doing so. I do so by recapping an episode of an animated show or a volume of a comic piece by piece, how detailed depends on the work and how condensed it needs to be, analyzing the episode and sometimes throwing in some jokes because i’m a silly weirdo and tis my nature. 

 So far i’ve been able to scrape by with the help of my patreon’s kev and emma, with Kev suplimenting that iwth various comissions (I.e. paying me to review a specific episode of a show much like someone would comissoin). But I don’t want to place my entire finacial future in the hands of two people so last month I lauched my patreon membership, trying to get people to join my patreon to releive some of the pressure on them. And not a person signed on during the first month. 

But I realize a large part of that is I simply didn’t advertise propertly, not really explaning what it is I do, what they get, or throwing in any extra incentives for signing up apart from “If so many people pledge to my patreon i’ll do X review” Which is still the main thrust of my campaign but I realized I need MORE than that to give you all proper money for your buck, especailly with Tumblr trying to monteize in the most half assed way possible making people presumibly more wary of spending money on me. 

So for this promo i’m going into what it is I review exactly, how to sign up for my patreon and how any of that works, what you get out of it, and various juicy stretch goals i’m hoping ya’ll can help me reach so

WHAT IS IT YOU DO EXACTLY?

As I mentioned above I review animation and comics, more animation than comics. My meat and potatoes are Disney Duck works, primarily the 2017 reboot and the Don Rosa and Carl Barks comics. For the former i’ve done retrospectives on Lena’s arc, the Della storyline from season 2 and ALL the Season 2 storylines, the last one currently in progress. I intend to review the entire series, the lackluster tie in comics, and the this duckburg life podcast, though the last one has some strings attached we’ll get to under my goals.  I”ve also been reviewing various Carl Barks first apperances and most importantly doing a complete retrospective on Don Rosa’s masterwork the Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck. 

I also review certain shows week to week, almost entirely Disney as aside from the True Colors Debacle they have the most reliable schedule and announce release dates farther in advance than Cartoon Network and Nick which just sorta pop up announce things. I covered all of season 3 of Ducktales and season 2 of amphibia (With season 3 coverage coming in october) and i’m currently reviewing Owl House every week till that hiatus hits. 

Finally i’m currently looking at all the Tom Luictor episodes of star vs the forces of evil tracking both Tom’s character arc and the show’s steady decline straight into the dumps. 

Comics wise i’m more sporadic but in addition to duck comics stuff, I’ve also been doing a retrospective on the Scott Pilgrim franchise: all 6 volumes of the comic, those reviews avaliable now and in two weeks from this post, just in time for  the video game and movie anniversaries to finish things up. I recently started another one for the comic book Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye, I intend to finish one I did for New X-Men, and I have a few in my mind’s eye I want to do soon on John Ostrandre’s Suicide Squad run, Justice League International, and Mega Man that i’m going to do pilots for to see if anyone’s interested. 

Finally recently i’ve started doing quick thoughts, quick reviews on recent stuff from trailers to full on movies I don’t have to cover normally. 

So What Is Your Patreon?

Patreon is a site where creators can get paid for work and can put up exclusive content and what not. And that’s not the only show as i’ll also review BOTH seasons of the birdtastic show after my own heart Tuca and Bertie! 

2 New Patrons: This one’s a big lighter but you still get some neat things: for my scottaholics in the audience I will review the rest of Brian Lee O’Malley’s works so far: Lost at Sea (his first graphic novel) Seconds (his first post scott work) and Snotgirl (his first ongoing and first work he didn’t draw himself), which follow a girl trying to reclaim her soul/cat, an immature restrauntieur who discovers reality changing muschrooms, and an influencer who might of done a murder. For those who don’t really like Scott Pilgrim i’ll review a buch of paramount plus shows first seasons: Kamp Korral, the rugrats rugboot and iCarly. And it’s still not the most bonkers thing int his somehow 12 ISSUE SERIES tha twastes one of marvels best creations.  * The Prince: Aka that series HBO what farted out onto the service with no intention of renewal after realizing “Holy shit we greenlit this what is wrong with us” which is basically family guy but with the royal family. I’d say it was a somehow worse family guy but Famiily Guy once had an episode that was about 22 minutes of transphobic punchlines so as long as there isn’t an episode of that your good.  * Mordecai is a Bastard Man: Aka that arc of Regular Show that took a ship I really liked, Mordecai and CJ, and then destoryed it with cheating, attempted murder and saxophone.  *Star Vs Final Arc: Aka a look at how a once great show descended into a mess with unfinished plot lines, wasted characters and a finale so terrible it’s only topped by “Kids this is the story of how I really want you to say it’s okay to bang aunt robin” 8 New Patrons: Infinity Train, all four books and any finale movie if it happens. (Please let it happen) All aboard! 9 New Patrons: Two juicy disney retrospectives! The Incredibles (both movies and both comics series) and Darkwing Duck (Both the Boom! and Joe Books runs) Let’s get incredibly dangerous! 10 New Patrons: My highest tier for now and i’ts anothe rdouble feature and two big projects. Tis' I again! Can you info dump about Beta!Lumity? Like things they do together and just what the two do to show affection. Them and their feral 1 braincell,,

These two....Fight. They Battle. But when they not fighting, they channel that Emo Teen In Need of Bloodshed into making fun of literally everyone else. When these two team-up it is the End Of The World. They are unstoppable and they will bully you relentless. Bonnie and Clyde, these two. Could get away with mass murder. If anyone sees these two getting along and bullying someone else they are all Fearing For Their Lives.

Luz’s way of showing affection is a little...off. The spirit is there but the action is iffy. She shows off little things she made, random accomplishments, books, etc. Her compliments are made up of “huh, you weren’t so bad as before” or “hey, you finally got better than my Abuela!” But she has a few sincere moments. In the quiet when she’s fiddling with something n says stuff like “well...I think you’re pretty” or “who cares what Boscha says? I know you’re better” but it’s always when she’s only half paying attention to the conversation.  She is also not immune to casually sitting beside Amity after a fight, when they had a rough day, or just at any point in general. She’ll sit right by her like it’s second instinct. Usually she won’t do much other than sit by her but she’ll also like lean onto her, mess with something in her hair or hands, etc. Depends on her mood.

Amity shows affection mostly through violence. Arm punches are common forms. She gives Luz one hit but then stops so it doesn’t escalate into an actual fight. But she also like...willingly hangs out with Luz even when it’s just her. Luz shows up to her n says some shit like “hey you wanna go throw firecrackers at the kids trying to sell weed by the back steps?” n she just “say no more” She’s also very protective. Anyone wants to start shit with Luz and depending on what they’re starting, Amity will start growling and giving them death-glares. However, if someone starts legit asking for a fight, she lets Luz take the lead, she knows that feral girl can handle herself. She’s also a lot more touchy than she likes to admit. If there’s an opportunity where she can throw all of her weight on Luz, she will. This includes draping herself over Luz’s back or dramatically laying in her lap when she’s being a teasing little shit. Luz usually throws her off but sometimes lets her stay. And, of course, in those quiet moments where she lets her guard slip, she allows herself to purr, for her face to be held and for hands to run through her hair. To submit to the mortifying ordeal of being known, to be loved.

Bit of a lumity headcanon to, hopefully, act as a palate cleanser from the intensity that was Agony of a witch. Luz learns how to produce illusion clones and Amity enters gay panic × 3 hope you can enjoy it

(I sure did enjoy it!) 

• Luz is so excited about the new spell she learned – and not just because illusion spells were rad by nature, but all the effort, the extra hours studying and focusing at home, the countless times she called Gus over in annoyed despair for some guidance – she also thought about calling the Blight Twins too, but something told her she wouldn't be able to concentrate with them around – all the hard work she had to put through made it worth to celebrate; 

• And what better way to celebrate than use that fresh knowledge? She and Gus would stick together all day, testing how good and how far Luz's illusions could go; she made copies of little objects, projected fake entries and stairs (and can't say they didn't snicker a bit whenever someone tried to enter or climb those) 

• After playing with simple tests like this, Gus challenged Luz to duplicate herself and, after some time of practice, she figured out how to keep a stable copy of her: they were delighted! Now Gus could teach Luz the cheats he used at class, at home to clean his bedroom, wash the dishes, etc

• They hang around with her perfect copy, hiding in the corners to see how long people would think it was her; And, if there was a Turing Test for illusions, that one was doing pretty ok; But while they had fun with that perfect copy, little did they wonder about what happened to Luz's previous attempts… As most of them glitched and disappeared right after being conjured by the glyph, they thought the same would happen to those two or three that ran away screaming at their existence – there was one that even jumped through the window; 

• Gus (and me) theorised that, since Luz's illusions were materialized by her mindwill but bounded to paper (aka another element apart from her conscience), that extra element in conjuration left a gap in their mind, allowing some independent thought and therefore a small confliction with the fact they were an illusion – meaning, they were propene to existencial crisis and maybe character building, which was strongly based on the caster's traits; 

• Before they dwelled deeper in the dark implications about that, Gus waved it off telling her runaways copies probably dissolved already; 

• But Amity couldn't say the same: by the time they've found out that there were other Luz running around the school, the girl was on the brink of madness: she had the "luck" to bump into all the three Luz, at different times, twisting her mind more and more with each encounter; She was already freaking out when Gus and the original Luz found her, even asking "each one of them" the human was;

• Luz 1 was moved by raw determination to learn magic, stomping around with reckless confidence as she challenged students and teachers for magic duels, even daring to ask Amity to help her learn to make an Abomination because she would need it for one of the fights; Amity followed her, trying to talk her out of this stupid behavior until loosing her in the corridors; 

• She met Luz 2 some minutes after, but she wished she haven't: that Luz shone with energy and kindness (brushing off any crazy duel ideas that Amity questioned her about when they met – "why duel people when I can do this!" *Bear hugs Amity*) her brain melted and her words became mere mumbles with each straightforward compliment or touch Luz directed to her – she was being overly adorable, and that was the death of Amity; the human dragged her by the hand through the school corridors, greeting and complimenting everything and everyone on their way, just leaving her behind when a group of students invited her for something (Amity can't remember what because her mind was miles away from reality at that moment), saying goodbye with a little peck on Amity's cheek and a fast hug before she joined the group; 

• When she managed to recover her cognitive activity, she decided she needed some quiet, peaceful time to calm herself down, so she goes to the school's Bibliotheca; There she finds Luz 3, sitting at a desk with her nose inside a book; She tried to call as less attention as possible – Amity was too overwhelmed for another session of mindless affection – but the girl spotted her anyway. The Blight pondered about running, but when Luz approached – no hug, no overexcited behavior or intimidating determination  – she decided to stay; Luz showed something to her on the book she was reading, pointing out how that scene resembled a lot another one from Azura's books; While they discussed a bit more about the scene, Amity relaxed: it looked like Luz had finally gone back to normal. Although she was quoting phrases from Azura's book more often; although she started performing some characters from the book in a quote cringe way; although she had this almost lunatic shine in her eyes when she started rambling about some very very specific details from Azura's book, talking about it almost in worship – and now Amity was once again frightened; 

• She tried to run away from Luz 3 – who screamed about lore theories as she chased her – and in her rush, she bumped into other people, including other... Luz?! When she saw all three of them, she was sure she'd gone crazy; 

• Shenanigans happens, Original Luz, Gus and Amity manage to track down and undo those clones; But even after everything is resolved, Amity takes a whole week to stop being suspicious about her crush
