Okay okay part of me has always leaned towards Ivan dying when he has to go up against Till. Because like listennn... Ivan ALWAYS being the one who's looking at Till, while Till is never ever looking back at him just has unbearable affect on my brain. So like I've always imagined him dying with the expectation that FINALLY FINALLYYY Till will truly LOOK at Ivan and really see him for the first time like Ivan has always seen him (Does this mean in a romantic sense? Potentially. Maybe. But most of all just finally seeing how Ivan feels about him and just having THAT realization), but also with the added gut punch that it took Ivan dying for Till to truly realize Ivan's feelings and aooughh. BUT flipping it around also ties into the same ooggily booggily affect that the first option has on my brain. Because having Till die could mean that from beginning to end, after EVERYTHING that has happened, he never looks back at Ivan. The tragedy and pain of that feeling, and you KNOWW that from the very beginning of the round that Ivan would know that if Till dies he'd die never knowing about Ivan's true feelings. Now is this all incoherent rambling that will likely not happen? Yes. But they are like little worms in my brain sooo

Tbh I think people are clipping the wrong part of the Ivantill kiss like - okay yes the big sweeping kiss is BEAUTIFUL. Russia

How the relationship started

Your relationship with Ivan first started with you doing some mundane thing, but he was there at the right place and the right time, and something about you intrigued him. Be it at a restaurant eating a strange food combination, seeing you early in the morning with your hair wet and rushing to get somewhere, or even getting a glimpse of your mismatched socks when you walked past him and didn't even pay him any mind. That was enough to seal your fate as his property. His mind can't seem to stop running with thoughts of you, how are you, why are you, and he needs to scratch that itch.

Ivan sends out a private investigator to stalk you basically, and provide him with your daily schedule. Once Ivan has your schedule, he dismisses the investigator, and takes matters into his own hands by stalking you himself, and trying to insert himself into your daily life.

Then, it was just a matter of getting to know you, courting you with expensive gifts and dates, then fully dooming yourself when you accepted him as your boyfriend.

Expectations

Ivan is very blunt with what he wants. Not very long into your relationship, around a month or so, he asks you to move in with him. Any sort of opposition or protest will be stonewalled by this; "We will be married and living together someday anyways. Why fight it? Don't you love me?"

So, whether you like it or not, you move in with him in his giant, lonely house.

There are no maids and none of the Baltic states to be seen, and this is because Ivan expects you to fulfill the role of a housewife, regardless of your gender. So he'd like for you to do chores yourself and to clean up around the house while he's gone. He doesn't expect perfection from your cleaning, in fact, he finds it a little charming when some areas aren't clean or spotless. His house was huge and you were only so small.

On the topic of fulfilling the role of his housewife, he expects you to do other things that make you fit the role even more, such as giving him affection, cooking for him, and keeping up a good front when guests are around. He wants the two of you to evoke the image of a traditional married couple so badly, and if you fail to meet those requirements...

Punishments

Ivan can be cruel. He doesn't tolerate rebellion very well, and his punishments are always physical.

He is a very touchy man, and if you fail to reciprocate his touch, or actively shy away from it, he'll only get more aggressive. His hugs will feel more suffocating, his grip on your jaw while he kisses you will feel bruising, and you swear, it feels like he's trying to crush your hand while he holds it, despite the sweet smile on his face..

If you continue to refuse him, he'll be much less subtle with his harm. One day, when you try to shove him away from you, his grip on your arm tightens to the point it feels like he might just snap it, and he pulls you close to whisper a threat into your ear; "Will you continue to be like this?"

If you say no and apologize, which would be your best option, he'll let out a strained breath and try to relax his clenched jaw, before letting up his grip on your arm and muttering an apology under his breath himself.

If you say yes... His jaw will tense up, and the look he gives you is bone-chilling. "Alright." He says, and doesn't give you much time to think before he drags you to the front door, and throws you out into the harsh cold, with only the clothes on your back.

You can cry and scream apologies and bang on the door all you want, but he's already walked away and drinking a bit of vodka to soothe his own nerves.

He'll keep you outside till you are on the brink of getting mild hypothermia. He waits there, thinking of how long it'd take for the cold to get to someone of your size and shape. He knows everything about snow, and he knows everything about you.

Right before you start to ebb in and out of consciousness, he opens the door, and drags you back inside, wiping the snow off of you and taking your weak, shivering body in his arms.

You cling to him, wanting to live in his house, his coat, and in his arms forever after experiencing the unforgiving hellscape that is the Russian winter.

Ivan mutters sweet nothings, the alcohol in his breath and the powdery smell of his clothing enveloping all your senses. He says that he wouldn't have to do this if you would've just obeyed him, that this is all your fault, and that he didn't want to do this and that he just loves you too much.

If you had any sense of self-preservation, you'll listen to him from now on, and if not... He wouldn't be above breaking a few bones. But you won't disobey him again, right? It's for your own good.

"I'm sorry, моя любовь.."

Rewards

Ivan is a very affectionate man, but he isn't the best at showing it vocally. He shows it in the lavish gifts and dates he goes on with you— Yes, he takes you out on dates. Only for special events or when he's feeling particularly affectionate, but he does it too because he feels he also has a role to fulfill as a doting, providing husband. He'd feel too bad if he just kept you locked up your whole life as his wife (and, also, he wants to test you.. He wants to see if you'll act up in public, and to see if he can trust you). Ivan feels it adds to the aesthetic of a married couple, too.

Besides that, he is INCREDIBLY physically affectionate. He has no sense of personal space at all, which may or may not be a bad thing to you, but regardless, what you think doesn't really matter, and he'll continue to invade it anyways.

He always calls you over to sit on his lap, he sleeps way too close to you, and he's always looming over your shoulder no matter where and what you're doing. As long as he's home, it's GUARANTEED he will be touching you in some way, shape or form.

Because of such things, Ivan is.. prone to getting intimate with you.

Unlike everything else, he actually sort of values your consent when it comes to the bedroom. Yes, he will make advances and be very touchy-feely, and maybe intimidate you a bit, but at the end of the day, if you keep refusing it, he'll let up, but his mood will noticeably be more tense.

Ivan is especially prone to this because clothing is one of his favorite things to gift you, he enjoys dressing you up in things he finds cute. And I mean literally. Whatever he buys for you, be it dresses, coats, or underwear, Ivan will want to be there to undress you and then dress you up in the things he bought himself. You're like his own cute little doll.

Regardless of your gender, Ivan will buy you feminine clothing and accessories. He may even be inclined to forcing you to grow out your hair.

He likes sniffing you. He rests his nose atop your scalp while hugging you, just to breathe in your scent. It calms him like nothing else in the world, and he feels alive again.

And during not-so-often times like these, he'll speak and voice his affections.

"I love you.. We are going to have a great life together."

Canada

How the relationship started

Matthew would be completely enamored by you just.. noticing him on a regular basis. Nodding your head at him whenever you two walked by each other in the hallway, mumbling a hello whenever you two sat next to each other, and the mere act of your eyes meeting his. Fully looking at him, and not just straight through him. It always left him red and unable to calm his heart for the rest of the day, so it was only natural he'd fall head over heels for you.

His crush on you kept festering day by day, with him being too shy to continue the little interactions you have, and having such little experience with socializing that he wouldn't even know how to continue furthering this "relationship."

Matthew is rather delusional. He spends his days fantasizing about talking to you, hanging out with you, being with you romantically, and, more often than he'd like to admit, rather impure things... all while you're seated next to him, or while you're across from him, a heady stare through his foggy glasses.

Eventually, Matthew starts to believe that you two were already in a romantic relationship, despite being acquaintances at best, and he starts to get really insecure. What if you forget about him someday? What if you stop noticing him, and you just disappear from his life? He believes that other people you notice, any other person you notice, will jeopardize that oh so special relationship you and Matthew clearly have.

So, Matthew bites the bullet, and asks you out for lunch one day. You smiled and blushed at him so brightly as you accepted, and at that moment, he knew he'd dedicate everything he had in his life to worshipping you.

Expectations

Matthew still puts in an effort to appear like a normal boyfriend, unlike Ivan, so your relationship with him would progress much more naturally.

That doesn't mean he hasn't been doing anything weird, though.

Matthew's already been envisioning what it'd be like to have a family and grow old with you the first moment he heard your voice. All you said was, "Good morning." So what more now that you two are in a real, established, romantic relationship?

He fantasizes constantly about clinging to you like a lifeline and crying about how much he loves you, and to hear you feel the same way he does. He wants to pin you beneath him, letting him do all the work, and showing you just how much he loves you, while whispering praises and prayers to you with a crazed, devoted look in his violet eyes.

You two have only been together for three weeks.

...If it wasn't apparent, all he wants is for you to always, always be by his side.

He doesn't care much for appearances or services like Ivan does. If anything, Matthew wants to be the one to do nice things for you, though he would like it too if you did nice stuff for him once in a while. Though, just kissing him on the cheek is enough to keep him overjoyed for like a week straight.

He spends a lot of time doting on you and trying to prolong the time you guys have together for as much as he can. Honestly, for the most part, Matthew would play the role of a normal boyfriend rather well, and your relationship wouldn't be really turbulent, except for, well...

Punishments

Matthew hates it when you have to go. Usually, he very reluctantly drives you back home after a bit of a fight, but he's just so pitiful you could never find it in yourself to be mad at him. I think he'd be the type to cry whenever you two had any sort of disagreement.

When he's lucky, he can get you to stay the night, which absolutely sends him on cloud nine, but it's not often enough for his liking...

Things would boil over, though, when you had to leave earlier than usual because you had to go to do something, like hang out with a friend, visit your mother, anything of the sort, and Matthew gets really upset.

He starts this whole thing of begging you to stay, that "Aren't I more important than them? Please don't leave." and he's tearing up, his shaky fingers holding onto your sleeve.

"Matthew, please, just for tonight."

"I-I don't want you to go, though."

Then he's crying. Harder than he usually does, and he's looking at you like a kicked puppy.

How could you still go after seeing him like that?

Matthew then learns that he can win you over with his tears. If he just cries for you, you'll stay, won't you?

He'd never lay his hands on you, but he'd constantly guilt-trip you and manipulate you for things to go in his favor.

Violence is something he'd see as a last resort, but it's still something he'd use against everyone else and himself, but never you. He hates to hurt others, but if they get in the way of him and you, he'll do it. I feel like people forget that, while nowhere as strong as Alfred is, Matthew is still a pretty strong guy. He wouldn't ever kill anyone, but he'd severely hurt them, and he'd be hiding his face the whole time.

And yes, he'd hurt himself for you. Those crocodile tears are bound to stop working on you someday, and when that time comes, he'll harm himself and say that he'll just keep hurting himself if you aren't with him.

Then you'll just have to run back to him, tend to his wounds, and reassure him that you still love him and that you'll stay.

...But if you keep trying to run, he'll have to just lock you up so you won't look at anyone else ever again.

Rewards

Matthew is affectionate in every sense, though he tends to show it through the way he wants to do anything and everything with you.

He's always holding onto your hands, massaging little circles into it, getting your favorite snacks when he does his groceries, drying your hair after showers, arranging dates and cooking and cleaning for you as much as he can. He's naturally very doting.

He does his best for you, he really does.

Besides acts of service, Matthew just likes to spend time with you. Lazing around with you on the couch, playing with your hair, and gazing right into your eyes like you were heaven-sent. He always has the most lovestruck expression on his face whenever he's with you.

"...You're the only one for me, you know that?" He mumbles, almost as if he doesn't know he's even talking.

And he says this next line with such devotion dripping from his voice that it makes your blood run a little cold.

"...I love you so much. Never leave me.."

As someone who has kind of convinced themselves Izzy is gonna die at the end of S2, could you share your reasons why you think he won't? I'm sure a lot of us who think he's doomed could use some ideas as to otherwise. And who do you think is being buried in that grave scene in the Behind the scenes video? I'd love to hear your thoughts!!!

Hey, first of all, this is the first ask I’ve ever got, so thanks ☺️

Okay, so, there’s been so many posts recently with much more elaborate and better-argued takes than mine, and I can’t really take credit for anything I’m going to say here because none of these thoughts are original, really… but anyway.

I was surprised how quickly and strongly people seemed to have latched onto the “Izzy’s gonna die” train based on, as far as I'm concerned, nothing more than a couple of vague BTS bits and a general sense of foreboding caused by previous experience with stories like these.

First of all, the BTS pictures and videos. Namely the bit where Izzy seems to be lying down and the one with the grave. It’s a massive stretch at best. I think Izzy’s likely to get injured at some point, but this could literally be anything, we can’t even see what’s going on. This could be a fuckery. At one point Ed is holding out his hand stained with blood, but we don’t even know whose blood it is. Same for the grave. Izzy isn’t the only crew member missing from the ring of people standing around it. We know there’s going to be a big battle in E08, so it's not surprising someone would die, but there’s simply no proof and not at all likely it would be Izzy.

Also, think about it. Izzy’s a sailor. Sailors typically get burried at sea. The only other place I could imagine him wanting to be buried at is next to his family in England, but that might just not be feasible, so he’d most likely get burried at sea. The way I see it, he’d much rather rest on the ocean floor than some random beach in the Republic of Pirates, a place he claimed to hate in S01.

Another thing: the creators of the show know how rabid this fanbase is. They knew we were going to painstakingly pick apart and overanalyse every single frame of every morsel of promotional content we could get our hands on. So far they’ve gone to great lengths to avoid major spoilers. They even changed Ed’s line in the trailer where he said “and, more importantly, no more Izzy” (replaced it with “no more Stede”) in order not to reveal the plotline of Ed shooting Izzy, even though that line was pretty vague and could have been up to interpretation. So how likely is it that they would reveal a major character’s death in several frames of BTS material? Just not very likely at all, I’d say.

Then I’ve seen a few people argue that the writers want to get rid of Con because doing the CGI for the unicorn leg is too expensive and inconvenient. I’m calling bullshit on that one too. Admittedly, I don’t know much about CGI, but Con literally just has to wear a green sock over his boot or something like that, and it’s not that hard to frame it in a way that makes his leg less visible. So far we’ve had a lot of shots with him just sitting there, or where he was filmed from the waist up. I imagine it wasn’t easy for Con to mimic moving like he was missing a leg, but he nailed it perfectly, and he seemed to have an easier time walking around in episodes 6 and 7 compared to ep 5, so he won’t have to keep up the severe limping to the same extent. At this point Izzy is the third major character after Stede an Ed. There’s no way they’d get rid of him just because of a minor cinematographic inconvenience like that.

And then there’s the fact that nobody actually dies in this show except for the villains. David Jenkins took the “bury your gays” trope and turned it into “make your gays unkillable”. This is literally the show that gave us recreational gut stabbing. There’s only a couple of exceptions, but they were all very minor characters or, well, a bird… I really liked Ivan, but he was easily the least important character out of all the crew members, and probably the only reason his death was offscreen was because the actor quit after S01. There’s no indication that Con wants to quit, it’s obvious he’s having the time of his life with this role, so it’s very unlikely he would sacrifice it for some other project.

What OFMD does love, on the other hand, is characters appearing to die, only to end up surviving against all odds. That’s, like, its signature trait by now. None of us really believed Lucius was going to die, even though logically it was extremely unlikely he wouldn't just drown immediately. They didn’t even bother to explain it properly, that’s how little this show cares for realism. And we love that about it. Izzy himself has already had not one, not two, but THREE instances like that: the dream sequence scene, getting shot in the leg, then surviving his suicide attempt. If he happened to actually die for real now, that would just be bad storytelling.

Speaking of storytelling… That’s really the main reason I don’t believe Izzy’s going to die. I know a lot of people are hung up on the whole “his narrative arc is complete and he has served his purpose as a character” thing, and in any other show that might be true, but not this one. OFMD isn’t just a show, it’s a love letter to the queer community. Izzy is now a representation of a queer person discovering himself and being accepted into the found family. He figuratively embodies the spirit of the Revenge. The physical unicorn figurine was destroyed, but the crew managed to use something “broken” and give it a new life. If the show did this only to kill Izzy off right afterwards, that would feel like a slap in the face. It wouldn't complete his character arc, it would undo it. It would be way worse than another show killing off some character that simply happened to be gay. It would feel like killing a character off specifically because they finally found some happiness in being gay, right after reaching the peak of their personal development as a queer character. It would feel deliberately mean rather than merely thoughtless.

And it would make the very first scene of S2 kind of meaningless, too. That dream sequence specifically showed us what was not going to happen. Izzy wasn’t going to stand between Stede and Ed anymore. Izzy and Stede weren’t going to be enemies anymore. Ed wasn’t going to melt into Stede’s arms and immediately forget all that’s happened. And Izzy isn’t going to die. Simple as that.

Goncharov

Why the hell is an MST3K blog rising from the dead to review a forgotten Martin Scorcese film?  I'd never heard of this movie until it suddenly became a meme, but I had a day off work and I figured I might as well see what all the fuss was about.  Now I want to talk about what I saw, and this is the only movie blog I have, so I'm doing it here.

Ivan Goncharov is the biggest, baddest motherfucker east of the iron curtain, richer than a tsar and colder than a Siberian winter.  He's got a beef with Neapolitan mafioso Mario Giglioli, so he heads to sunny Italy to confront him in person. His closest confidante, Andrey, thinks it's suicide to do this on Giglioli's home turf but accompanies Goncharov anyway out of loyalty. What follows is a two-hour dick-measuring contest as Goncharov and Giglioli try to out-intimidate each other, culminating in an orgy of gunfire where only one will be left standing... and this is the kind of movie where you can't take it for granted that it'll be the guy whose name is the title.

That's the ostensible plot, anyway.  What makes Goncharov a far more interesting film than such an outline might imply is that the argument between the mobsters is just a backdrop.  Having set up Goncharov's hard as steel, cold as ice reputation in the first act, the movie then sets about deconstructing it.  Goncharov goes from a terrifying figure devoid of all morality to a tragic antihero, a man who has come to believe his own hype so completely that he can no longer let himself be human.

This is demonstrated mainly by watching the breakdown of his relationships over the course of the tense three days in Naples.  The most important person in Goncharov's life is Andrey, the only one he comes near being vulnerable with. Their relationship is depicted as very touchy-feely in a literal sort of way, with Andrey helping Goncharov with his coat and shoes, lighting cigarettes for him, and touching his shoulder or arm as Goncharov confides in him.  The framing emphasizes these touches in a very homoerotic way, and I don't think I've got my tumblr goggles on here.  These guys have fucked.

As Goncharov becomes more and more obsessed with being tougher and more ruthless than Giglioli, whom he sees as an effeminate softie, Andrey tries to persuade him that the other man is not worth this sort of obsession.  Whatever Giglioli did to insult Goncharov (we never find out), Andrey is of the opinion that they should just leave a dead horse in the asshole's bed and move on.  Goncharov's pride will not allow him to do that, and the less subtle Andrey is in his attempts to dissuade him, the more Goncharov pushes him away, finally abandoning him entirely.  The tragedy of the ending comes from the fact that Andrey refuses to abandon Goncharov in turn.

We also see Goncharov with his wife Katya.  He is frequently cruel to her, and she tolerates it because he gives her expensive gifts and because she is seeking a vicarious mending of her relationship with her abusive father - she was never able to earn his love, but perhaps she can earn Goncharov's.  This is doomed to failure, as much because of Goncharov as because Katya doesn't actually want it to succeed.  Nursing a black eye, Katya pours her heart out to a bartender, Sofia, who tries to help her escape... but this cannot work out, either.  As Katya herself says, she doesn't know who she is without her issues.

I am pleased to note, by the way, that every single major character in the movie is named and I can remember them all, which is a bit of a treat for me (I need to watch good movies more often).  The only exception is Goncharov himself.  The end credits list him as Ivan, but nobody ever calls him that, not even Andrey or Katya.  In a flashback scene with his parents, neither calls him by name.  This flashback, fascinatingly, is filmed in the first person, looking through Goncharov's own eyes.  We are not allowed to see him as a younger, softer man.  He refuses to show that side of himself even in the privacy of his memories.

These quieter moments contrast with scenes of ever-escalating brutality, as the Russians and Italians try to force each other to back down by the murder of underlings.  The fact that it is literally a contest, and that Goncharov is aware of this and describes it as such, makes the worsening violence ever more meaningless.  The death of Giglioli's confessor is particularly awful, and the way Goncharov's goons treat the chapel has to be ten times worse if you're Catholic (fun fact: this scene is apparently removed from the Italian version on Netflix, which must make what Andrey says while waiting for the train into a hell of a non sequitur).

At the climax, the two really can't do anything but kill each other, because it's the only place left to go.  Giglioli's priest and mistress are dead.  Goncharov's men are almost all dead or out of action, and Goncharov believes Andrey to be dead.  The initial insult, whatever it was, is no longer relevant.  They have pushed each other to a place where reconciliation is unthinkable.  Whoever blinks first loses, but both have already lost so much that victory means nothing.  Worse, each recognizes that the other is in the same position, and neither can acknowledge it.

This means Goncharov can also moonlight as an examination of violence in media.  Why do movies showcase violence, and why do we watch it?  The initial posturing serves a purpose - Goncharov wants Giglioli to know he's here to personally demand an apology, and Giglioli wants Goncharov to know he's outnumbered and should quit while he still can.  But once it becomes an exercise in one-up-manship, the 'messages’ vanish and the men are now killing for the sake of killing.  Violence in movies can often be gore for gore's sake, pulling out more and more stops in the effort to shock an audience that has been desensitized by years and years of this.  That is what Goncharov and Giglioli are doing to each other.  Truly distressing moments like the fate of the priest, or what Giuseppe "Icepick Joe" Cozzolino (dressed as a maid!) does to Sofia when he assumes she's Katya because she was in Katya's hotel room, make us wonder why we're watching this - and the mobsters wonder why they're doing it.

In the end, it's all just a blood-soaked version of the sunk cost fallacy.  Goncharov had come too far in his vendetta to stop now.  Andrey has followed him too far to turn back.  Katya has been married to him too long to leave.  Of course, any of them could quit at any time and escape from this terrible spiral, but they are unwilling to entertain the possibility.  Like Goncharov himself, Andrey and Katya are prisoners of the identities they have built for themselves, and because their identities are so tied to him, they have to go down with him.

One thing I haven't seen a lot of discussion of on tumblr is the way the film uses the contrast in climate.  Goncharov in Moscow is in his element.  When you see his breath in the wintry air it's as if he's breathing smoke like a dragon.  While other people huddle in the cold he stands up straight and tall.  In Naples, on the other hand, he is out of place.  He wears lighter clothing, but continues to choose long coats and upturned collars, while Giglioli goes around with his shirt unbuttoned.  This should serve to emphasize Giglioli's home field advantage and yet, as we see through Goncharov's eyes, they just make Giglioli look soft.  His apparent weakness makes Goncharov want to appear even stronger.

On a related note, it is interesting to me how sunlight is treated as something very unfriendly.  In Russia, it glitters on ice crystals in the air and lights up condensation, harsh and white and giving no warmth whatsoever.  In Italy it bakes and shimmers on stone and asphalt, casting harsh, black-edged shadows and emphasizing creased brows and frowning mouths.  Outdoor scenes are, as far as I can tell, always hostile interactions.  Even indoor scenes in natural light: the priest dies with harsh sunlight streaming in through the broken chapel window.  When characters are softer with each other, it is always under artificial illumination.  Sunlight is too bright, too revealing.  People like this need some shadows to hide in.

Did I like this movie?  That's a tough question.  It's not really the type of movie you 'like'.  It's definitely powerful and well-constructed, thoroughly absorbing and all that.  There's a taste of Greek tragedy in the inevitability of the ending and the way Goncharov is eaten alive by hubris.  But I wouldn't say I liked it.  The characters are all terrible people whose arcs involve them getting worse, and the whole thing feels deeply claustrophobic, as if I, too, am trapped in Goncharov's downward spiral.  When characters realize their mistakes, it is only when it's too late to correct them - but only in their own minds.  It's a very pessimistic story, about human beings who are overcome by the very worst parts of themselves.

Is Goncharov deserving of all those glowing reviews?  Yes.  Was it unfairly snubbed at the Oscars because the academy was turned off by the violence?  Probably.  Will I ever watch it again?  Fuck, no.

Excuse me, I have to go watch some Pixar movies if I ever want to smile again.

When lvan removes the collar from Till,in that room where he was left alone (that to me looks like a *cough cough* shady club in a red light district. Poor Till) it reminded me of little lvan rebelling for the first time,entering in Till's cell (in Black Sorrow's flashbacks) and freeing him to escape with him. The parallelism is insane...they couldn't escape anymore,forever trapped until the round's outcome. Instead of a meteor shower,we were showered with rain. Good choice,vivinos. I really liked the grey sky.

One more thing,l think lvan was pretending to choke Till.At the end he doesn't gasp for air and doesn't have red marks. It's completely different from Mizi and Luka. Luka eyes were about to pop out. Till abandons himself and gladly accept what Ivan is doing because he was already dead.He is shocked when he feels that lvan has loosened the grip. He opens the eyes just to see him fall and smile. I also think that Ivan's intention was not to be remembered by Till with that kiss. It's obvious he'll remember everything about the round anyway,like his traumatic past. Present. The aliens were so disgusted by the kiss that,from being on the same level,Till surpassed the score. The love and hype for Ivan became anger: he interrupted their show,he acted in an improper way.

The last peck he gives him,the one showed in full frame,is the real deal. It was a ''goodbye'' and not a tactic to make the aliens frown and displeased anymore. He got to kiss him,something he always wanted to do,so it's not really a tactic.

Ivan waited for a reaction from Till,before and while chocking him. At some point his gaze trembles,he can't stand to see him drained from all his determination.He feels lost,but not because he wanted to see the old Till,who acted like his pillar.Not to feel contented,but because he thought that Till really LOST himself.He ponders about what to do next. ''This kiss will not make him misunderstand''. ''What to do next now that I'm choking him.Are we both doomed''. It is true that Ivan is obsessed with Till beyond the concept of devotion,at the point to make his life revolve around him. Till was what made him dream. He wasn't just something that awakened his vitality (and something else) in the emptiness. Ivan was like a puppet you move with strings,apathic,waiting to die. He didn't realize he could react and reapproach to his identity. Still,I don't think he wanted Till to die with him.

In this round,the one who always fight give up .The one who was inspired and obedient, rebels once again because of the glim of that ''star''. His black sorrow.

Rather than "I love you" it was like he was screaming "You have to live. Live on". He never had his love. For the trauma thing he discussed with Sua..well maybe he thought he didn't meant that much for Till,he was describing what Sua had the chance to get and,in his perspective,would have not cherished with her sacrifice.I don't think he was jealous of her. He says ''I feel relieved. The fact I'm not the only one who's messed up in the head'' . He didn't seem to hate Mizi too.

And the lyrics "Even if your cold words carve scars beneath my eyes , may they linger on your tongue. You can break me apart". This says a lot about lvan self-destructive nature. It doesn't surprise me he was ready to risk it all. He let the pain engulf him,going in the monster's mouth. He worshipped everything about Till. He touched Till's scar and then put the fingers on his lips.He wanted to feel his blood. Like if he could get closer to Till in this gesture,to compensate for the emptiness of the love he would have liked to receive from him.

If I were to say something to lvan: my buddy,your dedication truly amazed me. You were shoot three times and didn't even flinch. I'll call you IVANilla. Cause I like vanilla. I'm sorry,you're not only dead but now you have this name.

Till VS Luka.

Hyuna bleeding. If they ever get captured,they'll be killed or be imprisoned? Till will get up alone or with the certainty of Mizi's life? For Ivan's sacrifice?

First of all, I am so sorry it took me so long to get to this ask (and a bunch of other asks as well). There's just been a lot to think about lately which makes things a little overwhelming. This is a pretty long mesage, so I wanted to find time to answer it as best as I can. Thank you for sending such a long ask, I appreciate that you take time out of your day to share all these thoughts with me :)

The constant theme of Ivan saving Till is so tragic, but also it's really interesting how Ivan is able to deactivate collars and restraints so easily? He's incredibly observant, intelligent, and a trusted pet, so he could've picked up the technique from watching the aliens. It's honestly crazy how much power Ivan has? I mean, he's not on par with aliens by any means, but he could've been such an asset in the rebellion. There seems to be a lot that Ivan knew about, a lot of places he could access that other humans couldn't. Anyways, the parallel... Ivan freeing Till as a child and running away with him, contrasting with Ivan as an adult freeing Till yet remaining stationary. As children they had hope, as adults they know they're chained to their circumstances. All Ivan does this time is press his face to Till's, a small, soft comfort before their inevitable doom.

This is a thought I've always had about Ivan even before ROUND 6, but he always seemed like Till's protector in a way. Some call him a "guardian angel" of sorts (it's quite literal now. unfortunately). Despite Ivan's strange and offputting behavior, he always came back to help Till in one way or another. A lot of things that he did seemed to be an attempt to service Till in some way, even if they were done in roundabout manner. Even the childish act of stealing Till's things just to give them back to him is a (albeit fabricated) situation wherein Till needs something and only Ivan has what it takes to provide it to him. Ivan knows how to unlock the collars. Ivan knows where the restricted area is. Ivan knows where Till's things are. Ivan knows where Till is taken when he is hurt. Ivan knows how to escape. Every ounce of knowledge Ivan has is used for Till's sake. This is an insane amount devotion. Protecting and aiding Till by any means possible.

The meteor shower turning out to be rain messed me up actually. There was so much hope for the meteors to make a reappearance, especially since they became Ivan's signature and are associated with the infamous Meteor Scene. It's fitting, though, for us to expect blazing stars and instead be met with rainfall. There is no fiery passion, no bombastic jailbreak, no escape for the both of them. Cure is honestly so tragic because everything that we'd hoped for just... didn't happen (unless you prayed that Ivan would die! congratulations if you did). All we get is the depressing downfall of water. Extinguished flames, their cold and heavy circumstances drowning out hope and passion, emotions that so closely tied themselves to their beloved meteors now dissipating like smoke. Most of all, Till's lyric "Until these falling stars are buried in the blur of time".

After some deliberation, yeah, I agree that Ivan didn't perform the act to necessarily be "remembered". It wasn't his main motivation, at least. Many of my perspectives on certain aspects of ROUND 6 have changed since I first saw it through tear-blurred eyes (still in absolute shock to this day). The Confession comic further hammered down on this fact, as Ivan's states that his act of sacrifice wasn't as cruel as Sua's because he believed that Till didn't care about him enough to crumble for him like Mizi did for Sua. However, I don't think the aliens were disgusted by the kiss. We only see the scores changing once Ivan wraps his hands around Till's neck. They were definitely shocked by it, yeah, some maybe even against it, but I don't think it contributed to his score lowering as much as the "attempted murder" did. Luka tossed Mizi around and stepped into her space a lot (uncomfortably so) during ROUND 5, Till smashed open an alien on stage, so I don't think the aliens are unfamiliar with more... unique acts during performances. What they definitely won't let slide, however, is attacking the opponent. I do agree that the public's love for Ivan quickly soured into something else, at least for certain groups of aliens. His fanbase is now probably divided between the new haters and the diehard fans who are fighting for their lives.

I also believe Ivan wasn't actually choking Till, he just needed it to look like he was. Till didn't show any signs of struggle except for that first instance of shock. My best friend pointed it out at first, too. She mentioned that Till's body didn't react to the "choking" in any way, in fact, his expression seemed almost peaceful. Till assumed that Ivan intended on choking him and gave up, even when he wasn't actually restricting his air yet. "Abandoning himself" is a pretty great way to word it. I think even Ivan was rattled at how lifeless Till was in that moment.

Ivan's face is contorted in this frame, and it could be because of the gunshots, yes (he's honestly holding it together very well for someone who got shot THRICE), but Ivan was shot as well before this frame and he still maintained a stoic expression. To me, Ivan's stress in this scene stems from the realization that Till is not fighting back. Even with the sound of gunshots piercing skin and the weight of hands around his neck, Till remains unresponsive. Of course it was obvious that Till was giving up right from the moment ROUND 6 started, but to see him so readily accept death no matter the method... his star has truly burned out. He was waiting for a reaction that would never come at this point. The paragraph you wrote about this is honestly beautiful.

Ivan and Till essentially "switching" for this round is one of the things that I hoped for ever since they announced production, so I'm really happy (and devastated) to see it come to life. Ivan taking the biggest and last risk of his life in order to save his star, who spurred on all these feelings in the first place. I agree that his act wasn't an "I love you", though. I was a bit wrong in one of my previous posts. I don't think he cared for his own feelings in that moment. He prioritized Till first and foremost, performing the final act with the belief that Till, even up to this point, didn't care about him.

I never thought Ivan genuinely hated Sua, but I do still think that he was envious of her. It's confirmed now in the Confession comic, too. Seeing how Mizi and Sua loved each other, it gave him an "indescribable" feeling, one that made his brows furrow, his face dropping into a complicated expression. I also think that he never hated Mizi, either. After all, why would he? Just because Till loves her? He knows all too well that people can't control who they love. It's no fault of hers.

Thank you so much for bringing up Ivan's tendency for self-destruction. Even in his own personal relationships he tends to sabotage himself. Much of Ivan's character is centered around a "lack" of some kind. Lack of emotion, lack of love, lack of anyone close to him that could understand him (It's kind of ironic to think about since out of the whole cast he's probably the most well-provided for aside from Luka). Due to this lack, he desperately attaches himself to any feeling that could make up for the emptiness. The Patreon posts state that Ivan is deeply fascinated by anyone who possesses qualities that he lacks, which is why he developed such strong and obssessive feelings for Till, who seemed to be his opposite.

Ivan tanking 3 shots with a straight face was so insane actually. His expression didn't even budge. Really hammers in how much "normal" emotional responses he lacked. He only ever focused on Till, his source of feeling. Also Ivanilla is so cute actually 😭 fits since he's fond of sweets.

If Hyuna and Mizi are found, I have a feeling they'd be killed on the spot. What they've done is basically unforgivable to the aliens, and Mizi was supposed to be shot dead at the end of ROUND 5 anyway. It's either immediate death or unimaginable torture. I'm not sure how soon Till will be able to "get up", but I feel like if he caught just a glimpse of Mizi he'd regain some of his strength back. He'd have to carry on for Ivan, too.

Luka is definitely going to have one hell of a time during ROUND 7.

Ranking the Miracucast by how they'd react to being chosen as the next holder of One For All

Marinette: She would scream and cry and do everything in her power to avoid becoming the next Symbol of Peace. She would then proceed to be one of the most beloved and powerful Heroes the world has ever seen. 9/10

Alya: Depends on when she gets the Quirk. Early Seasons Alya is all about fame and branding, and she'd be loved by the populace as a hero but make a decent amount of rookie mistakes. Late Seasons Alya would be way more competent as a One For All user, but she also knows how to keep things subtle. I can see her becoming an Underground Hero like Eraserhead. Either way, 7/10

Adrien: Yes. 10/10

Nino: He would be very confused as to why he's being chosen, but if his friends were in danger he'd do it. Would much prefer to focus on his music than hero work, and as such would be known for the former more than the latter. 3/10

Chloe: She would try so, so, so hard to be the ultimate superhero that everyone loves. Unfortunately we saw how that went down in canon. She has the potential to great things, but motives will always be a serious problem for her. 4/10

Sabrina: Getting One For All might be what it takes to get her out of her shell. She'd never reach the fame and reputation that All Might and Deku have, but she would treat her powers with utmost respect and very few people would have bad things to say about her as a hero. 7/10

Mylene: She would be very confused, and very scared, and honestly would probably reject the Quirk outright. If forced to take it she'd be great, but I just can't see her wanting to hold on to it. She prefers to change the world in other ways. 3/10

Ivan: Everyone would doubt him due to making assumptions, but he would surpass them all and come into his own as a beloved and respected hero, albeit one that's pretty intimidating. He wouldn't really focus on quirks other than the super strength, but hey, it worked for All Might! 8/10

Rose: Be afraid. Be very afraid. 6/10

Juleka: Guaranteed to be more of the Underground hero type. Possibly might go full vigilante. She would use the Quirks very differently than most would expect, so people won't make the connection to past One For All holders. She does not want to have a body count, but definitely has one. 6/10

Kim: Kim is a total doofus who would immediately gain a rep as a reckless hero who causes lots of collateral damage but makes up for it by just trying really hard. Deep down he will feel unworthy and self-conscious. Local Himbo has internal turmoil and Does Not Deserve It. 5/10

Max: Would reject the Quirk outright and only accept it in the most dire of circumstances. Max does not want a messy complicated Quirk like One For All. Max likes simple and efficient, stuff he can manipulate from the get go. One For All is not simple. Give it to someone else. 0/10

(side note: while Max does not want One For All, Markov absolutely does, and finding a way to give Markov One For All would make for an interesting challenge. But Max still isn't taking it.)

Alix: Would politely decline taking it. Because she's already received it (and passed it on after engaging in brief shenanigans with it) in the future, and knows it is not her battle to fight in the present. Alix/10

Nathaniel: Please let this poor boy have some sleep. He is very tired and very angry and accepted the Quirk on impulse and really doesn't want to do this. Eventually manages to figure out his niche being a artist/spraypaint hero (Alix helps), and may or may not accidentally trigger the downfall of a corrupt government. 7/10

Lila: She obtained it under false pretenses and we are all doomed. There's a slim chance she'll do some hero work for the sake of her image, but like. The cons will definitely outweigh the pros. This was a mistake. 1/10

Luka: Accepted One For All during a time of great need, and knew the moment he received it that it was something Important. He puts on a front of being chill, but treats his work as a Hero with the utmost of seriousness and will do what has to be done. Like his sister, he would actively strive to not have a body count, but definitely would have one. 9/10

Kagami: She's a superhero with a sword. Awesomeness is the default. She will have no idea what she is doing but like. She has a sword. Stuff is getting done. 7/10

Marc: Look, you know Worm? You know Legend? One For All Marc would be like Legend except less hunk and more bishonen. The fangirls and fanboys will rejoice. Marc does not want all the attention, but he has it anyway. 6/10

Ondine: Kim accepts his role as the ultimate trophy boyfriend. Ondine would be competent, but she would also create even more collateral damage. 5/10

Aurore (New!): If there's one thing she knows, it's branding. She may not be known as a particularly powerful hero, but her branding would be top notch. When people figure out she's the latest successor she will OWN it and turn it into more branding. 5/10

Felix: Was likely offered One For All by someone who thought he was Adrien, and accepted it under that pretense. Would do a good job as a hero (and would give Adrien the credit in the process) but would figure out how to use all the Quirks very quickly and have a gig as a vigilante going on under a different identity, using different quirks to keep people in the dark. Very sus, Felix. You can be better than this. 2/10

Zoe: Look the populace would pick up on the fact that she's blonde and associated with America and immediately assume she's related to All Might. That's just going to happen. All Might will basically have to end up adopting her, if he's still around. She does not like this, but makes it work. 6/10

OMFD Spiral Parallels 18: Izzy's Interventions

Intro: What I love most about how season 2 builds on season 1 of OFMD is the spiral narrative structure. Ground is repeatedly and explicitly re-trod from season 1 to season 2, but in season 2 everything goes deeper than season 1. Meanings are shuffled, emotions are stronger and truer, and transformation is showcased above everything. The first season plucks certain notes, then the second season plucks the same ones--but louder, and then it weaves them together to create a symphony.

We get two interventions on this show, one in each season. The first intervention is because a relationship is too loving, and the second is because a relationship is too toxic. As the damaged people who became pirates heal and grow, they are more able to make authentic choices, accept themselves and others, and act like real people instead of wooden pirate puppets.

These interventions both center on our latecomers, Ed and his crew. People who've never been able to "talk it through," who've been feeding each other's darkness for years.

When Izzy leads an intervention against Ed, there's an implicit threat. Ed is failing to live up to the social contract they've all agreed to. He's being nice, he's caring about other people. It's oppositional, not supportive. Ed's going in the wrong direction, and he needs to turn around. He's not doing what he said he was,

When the crew intervene with Izzy, they're surrounding him--but not in an "ambush" way. In a way that shows support.

In the first intervention, Izzy tells Ed that "Me and the boys, we think you've begun to view Bonnet as a sort of a pet." They're pushing him down, not pulling him up. They're diminishing his feelings, not affirming them. They want him to stop changing and revert to his past self, follow his old rules.

When the crew talk to Izzy, they use mental health language. "We think you're in an unhealthy relationship with Blackbeard" and "It all seems pretty toxic to me."

And then there's the resolutions. The person who breaks down and cries in the first intervention is Fang, who's meant to be there to help insist on Ed killing Stede. With the way Ivan's glaring at Ed, it's honestly not all that clear what his and Fang's goal here is beyond a kind of revenge.

Behind Izzy, Fang is actually demonstrating 1) the real emotionally damaging situation was how Ed acted in the past, not how he's acting now and 2) losing Stede won't actually make him revert to Blackbeard. Fang's still "weak," still loves his poor lost doggo. In fact, he's weaker now for being heartbroken, which neatly foreshadows both how Ed's attempt to kill Stede actually ends up, and what a mess Ed ends up being (both when he's singing and when he tries to switch back to being the kraken) after Stede breaks his heart. This intervention is fundamentally pointless and doomed from the start, one way or another.

In season 2 Izzy, the actual subject of the intervention, is the one who breaks down. And he doesn't cry because the interveners are wrong, like Fang did. He cries because they're right, and he's trapped and scared.

Both Ed and Izzy bow to the pressure of the intervention. But when Ed does it, he gets further away from what he feels, who he cares about. He comes very close to going through with killing Stede.

But when Izzy's embraced by the crew, his long-repressed emotions can finally come spilling out. He can go forward, not backward.

I admit, I didn't particularly like Izzy in season 1 lol. I think it's because I have a lot of experience with being at the mercy of someone Like That (in regards to how he treats the crew. Just generally an Angry Chihuahua of a person.) My abusive mother, my manager at my first job, ect... So far though, it looks like season 2 is going to turn my opinion around lol

Honestly, I didn't like him at first, either! I honestly don't think you're supposed to. He does a lot of really shitty things that we're not supposed to find sympathetic! There are several moments – Lucius turning the tables on Izzy in 1x05, Izzy getting smacked on the ass by Stede's sword and then losing the duel in 1x06, Izzy getting punched in the face in 1x09, Izzy almost getting thrown overboard in the mutiny in 1x09– that are definitely supposed to be a "yeah, get 'im!" thing, tonally. I like Izzy and I still have that "GET WRECKED, LOSER" feeling at certain scenes.

And Izzy plotting and scheming and being a dick and then failing anyway, usually in a ridiculous way for absurd reasons, is a good chunk of his humor (I have repeatedly compared him to Wile E. Coyote because it's basically the same joke). It's the same reason the crew discussing mutiny in the first episode is funny: the joke is in them NOT doing it, for inherently funny reasons ("but who will do the voices?").

Like, trying to murder your neighbor is not funny. Trying to murder your neighbor because he has a nicer lawn than you is funny. Trying and failing to murder your neighbor because you slipped on a patch of wet grass caused by you leaving your sprinkler on in an attempt to make your lawn nicer than his is fucking hilarious. And that’s Izzy’s plotline through most of Season 1: just him laying out series of rakes for Stede to step on and then repeatedly walking into them himself.

But I think it's important to distinguish him from those I would consider "true" villains of the series, like the Badmintons or the aristocrats. Almost no villains (outside of the aristocrats and possibly Nigel) are completely 100% without any sympathetic qualities whatsoever: Geraldo is clearly super into Jackie; Chauncey is trying to avenge what he thinks is the murder of his twin brother; Calico Jack (yes I consider him a villain don’t @ me) does/did have a genuine relationship with Ed, even if he’s being a duplicitous asshole to everyone else.

But we spend much more time with Izzy narratively than we do with any of them, in a way that shows us how he’s thinking and feeling. We get the voiceover in 1x06 (“I’m starting to suspect that Edward has no intention of taking Stede Bonnet’s life” over Stede and Ed’s love montage like NO SHIT?), but then immediately afterwards we have the bit where he’s talking to Fang and Ivan, and his evidence for The Plan still being on is… that Ed promised him. Literally just that. That’s a personal reason, not a logical one. We see him talking to Jackie in her bar, sounding exactly like someone who just got cheated on with some floozy. And there are multiple times the camera decides to stay in his face while he goes through five stages of grief: Ed giving up and deciding they’re doomed in 1x04, losing the duel in 1x06, and trying to get Ed to listen to him during Stede’s execution in 1x09.

Even in scenes where he’s being a huge dick, he’s an emotional dick? Obviously some of those emotions are shit like “evil glee” and “anger,” but they’re honest: we know what he looks like when he’s faking emotion and he is so, so bad at it (“BLACKBEARD IS JUST A LITTLE UNDER THE WEATHER”). He REALLY DOES know that Ed adores Stede: he’s just revealing that to manipulate him into continuing the fuckery. He REALLY DOES think becoming Depressed Musician Ed is “a fate worse than death”: he’s just saying so out loud to (in theory) snap Ed out of his funk. He REALLY IS happy when he thinks he got what he wanted and the old Ed is back: that’s why he reaches out to touch him like that.

And I’m just gonna say: I know the joke is Izzy being the human in a cast of Muppets, but “guy who already is VERY vocal and obvious about how he feels and sucks at being evil but in a funny way” is, IMHO, the exact kind of muppety personality that would make him fit right in with the crew.

We know this was on purpose: David Jenkins has repeatedly said that Izzy is supposed to be like Ed’s jilted spouse, and he wrote 1x09 and 1x10 with Con O’Neill’s audition in mind.

And now we know that this season is going to have even more Izzy. So I’m hopeful that this season is going to cement the groundwork the writers set in Season One.

S2:1 and 2 make the most sense to me if Ed is terrified of mutiny.

He came back in s1 to find the crew just hoisting Izzy over the rail. He knows they turned on Izzy. He expects them to want to kill Izzy in s2 ep1, after he shoots him. When he realizes they haven't, that's when his downward spiral really begins. Because now he expects them to turn on him instead.

Because Izzy had been saying for years that Ed couldn’t handle a crew. He said he was the one who managed them whenever they wanted to mutiny; he was the one who wrangled their loyalty. He said Ed never won it. He might have even believed it. (Never mind that we don’t see Izzy wrangle them, we see Izzy tell Fang and Ivan that Ed's nuts. Ed doesn't know that.) Izzy insists they don't love Ed. And after Ed says he’ll give up piracy Izzy says that he doesn't want Ed either; that he only serves Blackbeard.

And after Ed heard Izzy, who's always told Ed he can't trust himself, he's too erratic, too distractible, he'd lose a crew the minute he lost Izzy -- after Ed heard Izzy tell him to watch his step, he is desperate to keep Izzy controlled, so Izzy can keep the crew controlled. He listened to them chant his name in 1:9 and looked afraid. The last time Ed had sent Izzy off, he'd returned with the Navy; he can't send him off for threatening him; he has to keep Izzy close. And he can't tell the crew Izzy threatened him; he has to keep him standing between Ed and the crew.

(And Ed has spent his whole life keeping hard, dangerous men off his back. It feels terribly familiar. It feels like this is just how life is.)

So in s2:2, when Izzy tells him the crew isn't happy, that he isn’t happy either, and it's because Ed loves Stede, Ed despairs. Ed thinks, I can't stop loving him. If that's what it would take, I'm never going to be good enough for Izzy. He isn’t keeping the crew happy. I can’t keep him happy. And I can't fire him. Why am I keeping him around? It can’t be worse than it is. They wanted to kill him; I should let them.

But then they won't do it. He asks Frenchie to, and says in near tears that they can just sail on together forever, fighting and looting, and Frenchie doesn't argue. He doesn't say that isn't what they want from Ed. He agrees; and then Frenchie and the rest save Izzy.

What that really means is that Frenchie is too scared of Ed to ask him what went wrong, why he came back without Stede and cast off half the crew and went wild. He doesn’t know Ed doesn’t want to be doing this. And he doesn’t choose Izzy over Ed; he isn’t trying to betray Ed. He’s just too loyal to his crewmates to kill one, even a dick.

But what Ed sees is: they all chose Izzy over me. I have no one’s loyalty. And nothing I do to keep them happy will ever be enough, and now I don't even have him covering my ass.

That's when Ed goes from depressed and drugged but functioning to fully begging someone to kill him; and on a rewatch, I really believe he's been afraid of it all along, waiting for the moment he forgets to watch his step and Izzy makes good his word, or the moment Izzy can't hold the crew off any more and they go after him again.

Ed thinks that's just how life at sea is, and that's how things are for people like him. He thought differently, once, but the only man who ever said he deserved better left him on a dock, so why wait for the others to give him the death they want to? Why not invite them to?

He asks Izzy to kill him, stop putting it off, but Izzy can't follow through on his threat. So Ed pushes the rest to do it. He’s sure they want to (the atmosphere on this ship is fucked!), that without Izzy between him and them he's done for and it might as well be now.

He has no idea they'd have been there for him if he'd asked. He no longer believes they really wanted the soft version of him who'd showed up on deck once upon a time. He thinks that version and every version of him was doomed, because there's something fundamentally wrong with him. He's soft, and people like him don't get to be.

So yeah -- I think if Izzy hadn't made him frightened of mutiny for years, then Ed would not have tried to get the crew to kill him; he wouldn't have been waiting for it. He wasn’t just suicidal because Stede was gone. He had been trained to be afraid, and he was so tired of it. He had been exhausted trying to be captain for so long; he would have willingly surrendered it, the way he tried to -- "Why are we even being pirates?" And he would have seen that he was loved.

But instead he was scared and tired to the bone. So he gives up. And it's not till Stede shows up to protect him that he feels he is safe enough to be soft again, to try and make amends and to do what he wants; and it's not till Izzy tells him at the end that he was holding Ed back and that the others have always loved him that Ed realizes he's never been alone, not on that ship. He didn’t have to be the legend Izzy demanded, or even the softer pirate Stede is. He can decide to be a fisherman, or an innkeeper, or just Ed, and he will be loved. There's always been people there who would want him, whoever he wanted to be, if he could have seen it.

Now he can see it.

Ship Tag Game

Tagged by @vera-dauriac over messages, which totally counts. Multifandom because I am indecisive AF and also possibly lazy?

OTP: That's one per fandom, right? 🤣 For sheer persistence over years and multiple incarnations, Milathos. Currently eating my brain? Rhaenys x Corlys, Silrah. (Clearly the fault of a certain actress. *shakes tiny fist*)

Ship that you love but your friends don't (and that's ok): of those I'm closest to, there's a lot of "I don't get your fandomship but it's very shiny", and tbh as long as they let me flail around and don't actually judge my ships it's all good.

Wholesome ship: Dragon Mom and Pirate Dad are the most wholesome. Fight me. (Don't fight me, I'll feed you to Meleys. She agrees.)

Comfort ship: I don't know if I have once, since I have this depressing habit of picking ones with a heavy dose of DOOM. (Sooner or later, doom. /Ivanova voice) My idea of a comfort ship is fic for anything that canon doomed where they get to be happy, so I guess I'm for patching the boat up until it can get back out to sea and sail off into a lovely sunset.

Crack ship: Um. Goodness. I don't know that I have anything I actively ship that qualifies. (Hey Vera, does wanting Pearl Fishers to get resolved in that threesome count? I'm sure opera purists would have something to say about that, if only "what the actual fuck?".)

Ship that should be popular but isn't: Most of my ships tend to be less popular in the fandoms they're in because I do like me some older/less generally popular characters, so probably most of them. And I judge the fandom at large for not recognising their awesomeness. So much judgement.

Opposites attract ship: Banged my head against this more than I expected because I couldn't get past either "but I don't like sunshine characters!" or "but they're all opposites if you look from the right angle, just like they're all too similar if you look from another one". So, in the absence of a satisfactory answer and to get something else in here that amuses me: Victoria and Ivan from RED, which is just a ridiculous delight for so many reasons.

Canon ship: Canon ship that doesn't get blown up, you mean? See Mom and Dad, above.

First ship: I think this might have been junior-high-school-aged Charis watching ST:TNG, because Picard/Crusher is genuinely the first one I remember. (I guess even wee Charis kind of proves out certain aspects of my type, lol.)

Cursed ship: Did I mention I regularly pick DOOM DOOM DOOM with a side of "canon said fuck you this is never going to happen because we've wrecked it forever?" (Honestly, how Musketeers fucked up a perfectly good Milathos dynamic will leave me forever salty, so I'm pretty sure that qualifies. Death is easier to solve!)

the relationship / marriage.

this headcanon has been a long time coming, but due to the somewhat yikes nature of the topic, i have been putting it off. it discusses a relationship with a major age gap so please be wary of that. i am not sure if it requires a tw, but if you think it does, let me know and maybe even tell me what would be the most appropriate way to tag it.

porlyusica was very young when she fell into earthland. consequently, she was very young when she got caught up with the guild. to adjust to an entirely new world, to come to terms with the realisation that she might never be able to go home again was difficult, but she tried. she knew it had been a one-way-trip for her, that there was no going home. she opted to make the best out of a difficult situation. she was twenty-three by the time she was married to a man twenty years her senior and had her son, ivan.

the marriage, however, was doomed from the start. the obvious difference in age and life experience aside, the tempers were not really compatible.

porlyusica’s keener senses and her generally introvert nature meant that she did not feel comfortable in loud places with lots of smells and visual noise. and her husband . . . his eyes and hands did not really stop wandering, just because he was married now. she was not the quiet and docile housewife he might have wanted her to be. but---she had her son. and she loved and loves ivan more than anything. that ivan adored her made the humiliation endurable, but it still grated on her nerves. by the time ivan was seven, she had told her husband that whatever he did when she was not around, she would be very upset if ivan would catch wind of it.

to accommodate her need for less noise, she moved into the cottage in the woods. her marriage would continue for a few more years, but she was seeing less and less of her husband. she did not exactly mind, she had her research to occupy her time. and the migraines she started to get around this time made trips into town very unattractive to her.

nevertheless, they finally divorced when ivan was sixteen---porlyusica had reached her last straw with her husband. to ask for divorce was something she had been wary of for a while: while papers had been forged when she had first arrived, those papers would only hold up as long as no one looked too closely at her. and as a wizard saint, her husband had access to far more resources than she could ever think about. that he had a friend on the council who could easily leak incriminating evidence was another thing that made her very anxious. 

still, the divorce went through. ivan chose to stay in his father’s home in magnolia---which made sense, he was a guild mage and the house was closer to the guild, making it far more convenient. and porlyusica stayed in her cottage, finally wrapping up her university education and generally avoiding her ex-husband. seeing him was not always easy, but when it was for her son’s sake, she did it.

by the time she was in her mid-forties, the fact toxicity of her marriage really hit her. she liked not to think about it very much because there was always the underlying knowledge of its wrongness that tended to upset her and be a stone in her stomach, but as she was older, she did wonder why none of the proper adults did anything. frankly, his lack of interference was one of the first things she would come to hold against master precht, but it would not be the last thing.

nevertheless, later in life, she would say that yes, she would do the marriage again if she got to start over, simply because otherwise, she would lose ivan.

This bit - with his father pointing a gun at him point blank, and nothing in Ivan’s experience leading him to believe he’d do anything but pull the trigger with pleasure, and the Nazi leader promising him a permanent cure if he just lets go of his plan to bash in the machine containing Nazi leader’s frozen, sick daughter - makes me think of when Ivan refused to turn Maria over even though that means he’d not get the medicine and thus die and Maria might not even be saved because all that mattered that it wouldn’t be him betraying her.

Because on one hand there is certainty of death without even much probability of success (he might very well be shot before he breaks the glass) and on the other the promise of life, all for the cost of putting his own life above a loved one’s.

And Ivan’s choice is, once again, the same. He takes a look at barely conscious Julia and even with a gun pointing at him point blank and the offer of salvation at hand, prepares to bash in the glass.

The sole decent thing Noiret has ever done for Ivan was to lower that gun. I guess shooting him point blank was his breaking point; I think though even that might not have been a no-go zone except for Noiret bonding with his bio kid and mellowing out a tiny bit and especially the last convo they had with Noiret perhaps wanting to live up in a tiny way as to how that kid thinks he’s an awesome dad to his older brother.

And then as Wolf frantically tries to fix the apparatus, Ivan gets Julia out of there. As Noiret stares. And this is the last time the two will see each other - fittingly it’s Noiret’s moment of mercy that dooms him with his buddies. But how fitting that the end of that relationship is not Ivan getting vindication or vengeance for all the abuse or Noiret repenting (he is incapable) or really anything. Because having the man out of his life permanently is all Ivan wants and the best for him.

Awwwww. You know, it is not at all surprising he does insane things in s7 - breaking up with her so she won’t be hurt, giving her last medicine he has so she’d live even a little longer etc. He clearly has no stops when it comes to her.

And season 6 ends - with Wolf finally dead (thanks to Camilo, who also prevented Eva from being put inside that machine again) and got to taste what it’s like to be defeated and lose a loved one before death. Vicki finally blew up and told Elsa about horrors going on in the school she runs. Marcos rescues Paula. But Fermin has been infected and sent into the world to spread and it might be too late when he realizes it. Oh, and the vial of virus just exploded in school, seemingly dooming everyone inside it to a brutal death.

We only have one season left, which I am sure for all of you going wtf at my posts is a relief. I am mad excited since it’s my fave season, aka the writers decided since they are about to be done, they will take a whole whump and torment factory of hammers to Ivan. It’s the apotheosis of photogenic suffering and breakdowns and I cannot wait!

I wonder what does Till think about Ivan.Now that Mizi is missing,and he seems to have completely lost himself and a reason to pursue forward,I couldn't help but ask myself: "Does he feel like he's condemned to die because of his guilt towards Ivan too? Does he feel like this or l'm just overthinking?" What if there's a retrospective we don't know about in which Till thinks Ivan didn't escape because of HIM and,now that Mizi isn't there,he's not torn about lvan anymore and what to do if he ever had to compete against him? Was he going to be conflicted in the first place? Like: "I have nothing,l lost my last hope. I may just die now rather than make my friend being killed. Is this the right thing? Why it had to be this way from the beginning,suffering because of the aliens? What am I? Why do I have to remember those things? What am I doing this for? I just wanted to survive and love Mizi"

Like we all know,thanks to the community posts,we see him have a certain dynamic with Ivan,in which they interact joking or bickering,and this strengthens a type of attachment he cannot deny. So,in the ROUND CURE we'll see Till (or Ivan) remember their past and we'll get to know more about their story with the progression of the actual one. (Ivan indeed didn't escape to stay with him,but Till doesn't know about lvan feelings,he may have been supposing all this time that he didn't made it or he just followed him back for some strange reason) I'm uncertain if they remember about seeing each other in the laboratories,through all the trauma...

l just hope that Till and Ivan don't succumb. What if lvan encourages Till to fight again unlike Luka with Mizi. What will Ivan do to try to protect Till?

I just know that Till looks so broken and... he may have had a breakdown at this point. He has dark circles under his eyes and it's clear he has not been sleeping. I wonder if the aliens drugged him or something. For the lenght of the hair: how much time has passed?! At least a month?

One more thing I noticed,is that Till doesn't seem to have that sort of IV tube they used to sedate him like on stage in ROUND 2.

And in Hyuna's song,around the end,a security guard writes something in the sand. I don't think they'll be discovered for this but I'm really nervous.

Yes!!! I shall accompany you through the madness. In fact I carry the madness in myself as well. If my yelling and flood of posts are anything to go by.

ALSO. WOW. That's genuinely so heartbreaking. Till having guilt isn't talked about often but it's very plausible that he'll be feeling it tenfold during this round. It's his fault, after all, that they're still here. Now that Mizi, the whole reason he stayed, is gone too, what was all of it for? He doomed himself and Ivan for nothing. You're right. He seems hopeless. I can definitely feel Till in those words, and it's so sad to think about how his thoughts could devolve to that point. He seemed so determined, so bright and dynamic at the beginning during ROUND 2. Now he seems so empty. Ivan and Till are definitely much closer than the both of them let on, there's no way they were just "fine". I think Till does hold fondness for Ivan, maybe even a little aware of his feelings (I don't think he knows what extent though, not sure he knows that Ivan's world literally revolves around him). What I'm sure of is that Till isn't as indifferent to Ivan as he might seem. Ivan is incredibly important to him too, and he has to come to terms with all of the guilt and feelings that were previously buried under his love and fixation for Mizi.

Oh... If Ivan spent most of ROUND 6 encouraging Till to fight I would be HEARTBROKEN. I remember one of the most common theories in the beginning was that Ivan would refuse to fight so that Till could win, and maybe Till would try and convince Ivan to fight. It's really interesting to see that the opposite might be true instead! And yes, VIVINOS LOVES to play with our feelings! It's their specialty.

Haha, Till's always had horrible eyebags! He apparently only gets less than 5 hours of sleep per day, and he's an incredibly light sleeper. Despite his eyebags though, Till always possessed such a large amount of energy. He had a lot of fight in him. You're right though, now he just seems exhausted. He's definitely been spiralling down into some very dooming thoughts. I wonder how much time has passed too...

An IV tube? I believe that's just his leash (just to make sure he's constantly restrained), but wow, thinking of it as an IV tube has some very horrifying implications. If they tried to sedate him, it definitely didn't work well HAHAH (RIP Freddie).

I thought the security guard writing in the sand was just a fun little visual gag, but if it's actually used to track down Mizi and Hyuna, oh shit. Improved security, after all. This isn't gonna be easy for them.
