Allay of the Riverward Faction (as of: the start of A Dream of Destiny)
A tall, fluffy, and round cat with mostly cream fur, golden and gray spots in some places. Her fur is wavy is sort of crinkly with European golden-plover feathers sprouting from her fur, and small wings on her back/paws. Her paws are rather large.
Wears forget me-not petals scattered on her chest fur; willow leaves tied around her tail, hanging out of her bag, and connected to her twine bracelet. Her allay bag is fastened to her back legs made of elephant leaf held closed with two twigs that cross to make a X, willow leaves hang out of the bag and twine hangs under it with Iris petals connected to the twine. A woven circlet hangs on her head, leaves sprouting from the twigs.

My own take on a @oldfacesnewdawnoffical oc! Actually really love her and making all the accessories was really fun. If you haven’t go check out Spotty’s sick ass world seriously it’s so cool. Monstera actually has Riverward blood but her bio parent didn’t want to claim her so a lil deal was made with her momma Crescendo to adopt the ‘foundling’ with her own kitten. If she didn’t have such a interest in healing and plants she 100% would’ve been a Observer. Absolutely loves her siblings kittens always bringing them things she finds, making them toys, and telling them stories or tales she’s gotten from her momma. She’ll even sing to them though becomes incredibly embarrassed if any other cat hears her songs.
oooh okay you are also a person who loves a long drive and a fun car harmony so i need to know: what are the best songs to sing to in the car ??
It really depends on the mood and the vibe!! I live in the Pacific Northwest so when I used to drive through the gorge I would play the twilight soundtrack a lot because the vibes were just so correct. I do a lot of musical theater so I can belt along, I have a playlist of drag queen music for when I’m feeling high energy, my usual slightly sad lesbian songs, and then sometimes I go old school with some dad rock or some soul and r&b (no harmonies will ever go as hard as Earth Wind and Fire and I’ll die on that hill) and then on the rare occasion I will blast my 2008-2016 nostalgia music :)
I really enjoy going to temple and it always puts me in a good mood but the problem is I’m autistic and the concept of “you can only engage in your new interest once a week” is foreign to me so I spend half the week like “only X more days until shabbat :)c” like some kind of nerd.
jojo siwa claiming she's revitalizing gay pop and releasing 'karma' on the same night as conan gray's 'found heaven' and chappell roan's 'good luck babe' is so poetically ironic. it's like the universe WANTS to draw a comparison between jojo and queer pop artists.
the thing that makes queer pop compelling as a genre is the unique storytelling and experiences of queer artists told through their music. that doesn't necessarily mean every song by a queer artist has to be about their queerness. they don't have to scream "hey i'm gay!" in every single song they write. but claiming to be "reinventing gay pop" should mean you're telling interesting stories about your queer experience, right???
'found heaven' by conan gray is about growing up as a queer kid with religious guilt and disapproving parents. he equates being in love in an authentic way to "finding heaven", and the piece as a whole resonates with a TON of queer people in different stages of their lives. some people can look back at their childhoods and how much they've grown since then, some can relate because they're currently going through what conan's written about, and some people can sympathize with the way some queer people are treated, even if they aren't necessarily queer themselves.
'good luck babe' is a song about queerness and compulsory heterosexuality. chappell sings about a woman she was in a relationship with who decided to settle down in a conventional marriage despite being queer. the song reflects the denial a lot of queer people go through (specifically regarding the lesbian experience) and the unfortunate way a lot of them end up repressing who they are to conform to societal standards. it's fun, it's campy, but its message is still poignant.
as for karma… there's nothing inherently queer about that song. the music video for the original version, ‘karma’s a bitch’ by brit smith, featured a heterosexual storyline. jojo buying the rights to a song she didn't write isn't inherently a bad thing, a lot of mainstream artists do that all the time. however, if you're claiming to be a pioneer of the “gay pop” genre and your music doesn't reflect any queer themes or experiences, is it really “gay pop”? again, queer artists don't have to write exclusively about their queerness, but if you try to present yourself as a voice for the queer community without telling any of their stories, you're not going to be lauded as some revolutionary figure. if any of the songs on jojo’s album are actually about her experience as a lesbian or contain any queer themes, then i think she'd qualify as a “gay pop” artist. but so far, she's given us a faux edgy, generic pop song and tried to market it as some insane never-been-done-before feat. and honestly, if her entire album is like this and she continues to market herself this way, it's a slap in the face to all the genuine artists and storytellers in the queer community.
but let's stop talking about jojo siwa and start talking about the incredible queer artists who are truly breathing life into the "gay pop" genre: chappell roan, renee rapp, ben platt, conan gray, girl in red, kevin atwater, baby queen, mitski, clairo, dodie, and SO MANY MORE (feel free to add on some of your favourites because there are so many wonderful artists out there <3)
also: if you have a different perspective on this situation i would absolutely love to hear what you think and if you agree / disagree with this! i love discussing topics like this so feel free to reblog with your own take
Are you satisfied? (Marina and the diamonds) - Deadpool and Wolverine, idk the context yet
Look who’s inside again (Bo Burnham) - Deadpool
Problematic (Bo Burnham) - Deadpool
Blow me (one last kiss) (glee version, idk where it’s actually from) - Deadpool and Wolverine, idk what context but the vibe fits
Let me make you proud (Tangled the series) - wade wilson
From now on (The Greatest Showman) - Logan at the end of Deadpool and Wolverine
Dirty girl (Nerdy Prudes Must Die) - Deadpool and Wolverine, I think Deadpool as Max… honestly lots of NPMD could work for them, like If I Loved You, the context doesn’t quite fit, but it could still work
Sexy (Mean Girls Musical) - Deadpool, with Wolverine as Janis, and when he says “I’m a sexy mouse” the text on the screen is him telling Logan that they can play cat and mouse… it’s perfect
Empty chairs at empty tables - Wolverine, yes I want him to suffer
What you own (Rent) - Deadpool and Wolverine, figure out details later, I was listening to it and it kinda fit.
You will be found (Dear Evan Hansen) - end of Deadpool and Wolverine
Would you be so kind? (dodie) - Deadpool to Wolverine
Me and my husband (idk who sings it) - Deadpool and Wolverine
To the other side (The Greatest Showman) - Wade as P.T Barnum (ironically), trying to convince Logan to help him at the bar, and when they reach an agreement there’s a timeskip.
This Shabbat we read a special section from the Torah called Parshat Hachodesh. It is the story of the Mitzvah of Rosh Chodesh, that we track, observe and celebrate the new moon each and every month.
Since the day that G-d commanded Moshe regarding this Mitzvah, two weeks before the grand Exodus from Egyptian slavery, we have kept a close eye on the moon, looking out for that celestial monthly moment of rebirth that G-d showed Moshe that early evening in Egypt.
In the Torah, our holidays - Passover, Sukkot, Yom Kippur etc. - are prescribed to happen on a certain day following the new moon: "the fifteenth day after the new moon", "the tenth day after the new moon" and so on. Meaning, that if we wish to celebrate these festivals, we need to keep track of the lunar cycle, even if no one else on Earth gives it a second thought.
Along the way, the Jewish people have come to identify with the moon.
We can empathize with the moon's ups and downs, so similar to our own history. One moment we're shining bright, the next moment we're so oppressed and persecuted that casual observers have often written us off, predicting our extinction, G-d forbid. And yet the next moment, to their disbelief, we're back, reborn out of the darkness, and growing stronger every day.
It's notable that G-d interrupted the flow of events leading up to the Exodus to tell Moshe about Rosh Chodesh. Not only because it seems to be unrelated to what was happening then, but also because by giving that Mitzvah right then, it meant that it would given in Egypt, the darkest spiritual locale in the world. G-d could have waited a couple of weeks until we were out of that spiritual wasteland and told us about Rosh Chodesh in the desert. Why the rush?

Everyone's talking about the eclipse happening Monday afternoon - The Great North American Eclipse. It's a major event that will have millions of people looking up to the Heavens, an event that will not happen again in the USA until 2044.
Now, solar eclipses only happen around the new moon. Monday night and Tuesday, Jews will observe Rosh Chodesh. And not just any Rosh Chodesh, but the annual Rosh Chodesh of all Rosh Chodeshes - the first Rosh Chodesh of the year. This means that Monday is the day before rebirth, the day when the moon is at its very lowest, darkest point, the moment that symbolizes the most difficult, challenging times of the Jewish People.
And so it turns out that precisely in its smallest, weakest moment, the moon looms largest: it can even eclipse the mighty light of the sun.
Is this not our story exactly? Is this not precisely why G-d told this to Moshe in Egypt, in our place of misery and suffering? During the last new moon of our centuries-long sojourn in Egypt, G-d shows Moshe the truth about the miracle of Jewish rebirth and eternity. In the place of our pain, before the redemption, in the midst of the uncertainty, G-d stops everything and tells us to look up at the moon, see our story in the moon's story, and discover in the moon a solid friend, an eternal gentle reminder that it will be okay, that no matter what, Am Yisrael Chai forever.
And better yet, as Monday's eclipse shows, our darkest moments are when we shine brightest and loom largest, as we begin the great turnaround, the journey from darkness to light.
This Monday will be the 3,336th anniversary of the day G-d showed Moshe the moon.
How perfect. During these painful days of antisemitism, the sun, 400 times bigger than the moon, is eclipsed by it. Far from tottering or faltering, the Jewish People are stronger than ever. Precisely when casual observers report us missing, that's when we shine.
L'Chaim, brothers and sisters. Our best days lay just ahead. So in the words of the Lecha Dodi which we'll all be singing in just a few hours:
"Wake up, wake up! Your light is coming, rise and shine! Time to wake up and say your song, because G-d's glory is revealed upon you."

There’s this song from the 80s that reminds me a bit of Chappell Roan. It’s called “High School Confidential” by the Canadian band Rough Trade. It’s about the singer, Carole Pope recalling having a crush on the mean girl in high school. It’s bouncy new wave, has provocative lyrics and a really unique vocalist.
youtube
It was such a big part of my childhood because my parents and the radio played it a lot. I was always happy to hear it on the 1 radio station we had that played rock music from the “80s, 90s and Now”. It’d come on between songs by the likes of Limp Bizkit and Bryan Adams (Canada’s Springsteen).
And it’s so cool—it’s an absolute bop about a young queer woman having a crush on another woman. That was huge! Now there are a ton of singers who sing about that whether it’s Chappell Roan or Billie Eilish or Syd tha Kid. (Or Hayley Kiyoko or Kehlani or girl in red or Shura or Arlo Parks or Rina Sawayama or MUNA or Hollie Col or Sarah Barrios or Tegan and Sara or Zolita or Xana or Fletcher or King Princess or mxmtoon or Halsey or Dodie or Megan thee Stallion or Phoebe Bridgers or Julien Baker or Lucy Dacus… It’s a great time to be alive for fans of queer female singers folks!)
Anyway, I love this song. It’s an incredible artifact of the 80s. Goes to show women have been writing catchy songs about having crushes on bitchy straight girls since probably Sappho and this track was another step forward in pop music for queer women perpetually afflicted by yearning.
