Story from McClain Bybee, 2023:

I was the Sahara Hotel Assistant Casino Credit Manager in 1969. My boss Gil Virant was killed by organized criminals that year.

Newspapers had run the story that Gil's death was a suicide. Further investigation by the local law officials, the State Gaming Control Board, the FBI, and the Del Webb Corporate officials revealed that Gil was involved in the embezzlement of a large amount of money in association with a criminal element from back east. The FBI later found that the individuals who were associated with Virant had also embezzled monies from a large Baptist Church organization. Those men were later found dead. Tom Ault, head of the FBI Las Vegas office, told us that evidence at Gil Virant's home indicated that Gil was forced to ingest Drano by the two suspects which caused his death.

The embezzlement started as a check-kiting scheme. The FBI felt that the suspects were threatening Gil with disclosing his gay lifestyle as a means of keeping him to give them more money and time to pay the outstanding markers and checks. Eventually, the dollar amount of the float became so large that Gil appeared to decide to go to corporate management and disclose what he was involved in. It was felt that his possible decision precipitated the murder. I was caught in the middle of the investigation because my name (signature) appeared on a number of markers and documents. My home was secretly staked out by the FBI for about a month, which I later learned from Tom Ault.

Alright it's almost Hispanic Heritage month again yall. Here's a list of Animated characters that I, a Latina, cried over when I found out they were Latin American

For clarification, "Found out" means, having no previous knowledge of said characters and within the context of the show/movie they are confirmed Latin American.

The entire Madgrial Family (Encanto)

The moment I saw the teaser trailer for Encanto I started crying. I was so BEYOND EXCITED to see real, true, positive beautiful Latin American representation in a Disney movie. I'm not even Colombian but seeing something like this become so popular made me so happy. Being able to fully understand "Dos Orugitas" in Spanish just hits so different, its not the same in English. It's such a beautiful step for Latin American representation, and I'm so excited to see what comes next for us. (Still holding out for my Latina Disney princess tho. And no, Elena doesn't count) I've also been told I look just like Mirabel and seeing a character that looks like me in a Disney movie just made my heart soar.

Luz Noceda (The Owl House)

Bruh a bisexual Latina with mommy issues AND she's bilingual??? She's just like me fr.

Lance McClain (V*ltron Legendary Defender)

He was my absolute favorite character in V*ltron and I will NEVER forgive them for ruining his arc and making him sad forever. He deserved a happy ending. He's NOT "just a boy from Cuba", he's so important and lovely.

Miles Morales (Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse)

I'm not a comic book reader, so Into the Spiderverse was the first time I met Miles. Finding out he was Afro Latino made me heart soar. He's a sweet boy, such a good character in the movie, and definitely deserved the Oscar. Can't wait for the sequel.

Claire Nuñez (Tales of Arcadia)

Claire is literally such a badass. She's amazing, an amazing character, her story with Jim is beautiful. Love it when she's speaks Spanish. 10/10 character (Watch Tales of Arcadia it's really good)

I literally laugh my ass off whenever I watch the episode "Hidden City Job" and they do the whole Don Suave bit. Like it's so over the top yet accurate to telenovela characters that I can't help but laugh every time. When they first introduced Capitan Piel, I instantly laughed so hard before they even translated it because they did the whole Skin and Bones bit and I just thought it was so clever. 10/10 duo I'd love to see more of them. • Isabella Garcia-Shapiro (Phineas and Ferb)

Phineas and Ferb was the first fandoms I was ever in, and Isabella holds such a special place in my heart. Love her to pieces

• Marco Diaz (Star vs. The Forces of Evil)

Svtfoe was also one of the first fandoms I was in, so seeing one of the leads be portrayed as Mexican made 12 year old me so happy.

• Miguel Rivera (Coco)

Coco is such a beautiful movie, and I ONLY watch it in Spanish. Miguel is such a sweet and special boy, he really brought the joy of music back into his family.

• Soos (Jesus) Alzamirano Ramirez

Gravity Falls was ALSO one of the first fandoms I was in (PnF, GF, and Svtfoe were my main 3 for a time), and finding out this loveable goof was Latino made me really happy

• Princess Elena Castillo Flores

Now she may not be an official Disney princess (she doesn't meet all the requirements to be part of the franchise) but that doesn't mean she isn't excellent representation for young children. Although the show doesn't represent one specific Latin American country/culture, the show does have bits and pieces of many different LatAm cultures, and even some indigenous inspiration here and there with all the mythology aspects. It isn't perfect, but I do still appreciate Elena's presence in Disney.

The paladins had brinted a summer vacation house and obviously, they were all excited about the pool! Everyone, except Pidge...

"I can't wait to go refresh in the pool! It's like a 100 degrees out here..."

Hunk said as he wiped the sweat from his forehead.

"Im with you big guy... If it keeps going, I think that you might be able to do tonight's BBQ on my head..."

Lance leaned on Hunk shoulder.

The car where they were all siting for houres finally stoped in front of a huge house.

"we're there!"

Space dad sang from his sit. Everyone was now looking through the window in amazement.

"Wooow... Shiro, that house is huge!"

Pidge exclaimed herself.

"Pffff... modest rich child..."

Lance whispered to Hunk as a jole to piss pidge off.

"At least I don't use all my money to buy a car that I can't drive..."

Pidge whisperered to Keith, they both had a smirk on their faces.

They entered the house with their suitcases and it was, like Pidge had previously said, a huge house... I better call it a villa.

When they were all done settling down, they all headed to the pool... Except Pidge. I mean, she sat in front of the pool under an umbrella with a book and a drink.

She was in bra but still had a skirt on.

Keith saw her as he walked toward the pool and decided to go talk to her. Without lying, he thought that it was cute to see her chilling there with her book.

"Hey, there."

He sat next to her

"Ho- hi!... what's up?"

She answered. He obviously surprised her ever since she wasn't expecting anyone to come and bother her nice alone time. But it was Keith and even if she doesn't say it out loud, she really enjoy his presence.

"Nothing much, I was heading to the pool. What about you, what are you doing?"

"Well... Just relaxing and reading..."

"I didn't know you liked to read, I thought you would have brought your compputer here or something."

"Bringing my computer here?! No way! You guys would splash water on it..."

Keith giggled.

"true... So what are you reading?"

" It's called 'Outlander', It's basically a novel that happens during world war two but the best part of it is the romantic part! I really like the relationship between the characters... It's romantic and very-

Pidge finally took a small moment to take a closer to Keith. Her eyes went from his naked torso to his abs AND, finally take a quick glance.... Well, down there...

"Hot..."

She continued with a small blush, not even noticing what she had said.

THEN, she realized what she had just said and blushed hardly...

" HAA!! I MEANT... VERY SWEET! NOT HOT!"

Keith looked at her with confusion and then bursted into laugher:

"Don't worry, no need to get so red! Besides, you're right, it IS pretty hot out here."

He blinked at her teasingly, causing her to blusuh a mess and hide behind her book.

"Just go to the pool already..."

She said, hiding behind her book.

After laughing at her again, Keith smiled at how cute she was being and then spoke:

"You're not joining us?"

Pidge looked down.

"I, huh, don't feel like it... Don' you worry about it."

Keith looked at her with a sence of worry.

"Is everything ok?"

He asked.

"Sure. Now, are you done asking me questions? Just go have fun!"

She smiled reasuringly at him and pushed him off the sit.

"Heyyyy... OK...ok... I'll make sure you're ok later, if this is what you want. Don't get burned by the sun by the way."

He said as he walked towards the pool that was no far from Pidge's sit.

She smiled at him before to get her head back in her book.

While all this happened, Lance had a plan in mind:

he wanted his revenge against Pidge. That was very childish, but at the end of the day, he though that pidge might find it funny. If only he knew...

He silently apprauched her sit from behind and when he was close enough, he grabed her tightly in his amrs and jump in the pool.

In the water, he gets his arms off her to let her swim back to the surface. When he joined her off the water, he was surprised to see her expression. He expected her to be annoyed but not MAD. When he saw the frown on her face, he knew he had messed up.

"LANCE? WHAT THE QUIZNAK?!"

"Ho, hum... I thought it would have been funny?.. "

"HOW CAN THAT BE FUNNY?!"

"Ho come on, you're the one that is not getting it. it's freakin' funny, you're just too stuck to understand."

Keith approached pidge in the water, giving a death stare at Lance. He sure didn't wanted the two to fight more.

"Come on, let's go inside... I'll lend you my towel..."

He helped her to go out of the water and gave her his towel.

"...Thanks..."

"Of course, let's get you some clothes, you angry green bean."

She smiled lightly before to follow him inside.

Pidge was now inside the bathroom as Keith was waiting outside.

"Sooooooo... Should I ask... Why did you get so mad at Lance? I mean, knowing you, those types of stuffs doesn't bother you. In fact, I also thought you would have laughed even if you would have been a little annoyed... But that mad?

He said for her to hear through the door. She took a moment before to answere.

"That's... complicated."

"Should I be worried?"

"No."

"That doesn't sound very convincing. If you don't want to open up to me, I get it. but at least be real when I ask you if you are ok so when you don't feel good, I actually know that I shouldn't bother you OR that I have to be there for you, that even if I don't know why you feel that way. But you know, some times, it feels nice to open up. It took me time to understand that it was pretty important, but I swear that it feels nice. So, what do you say?"

Pidge stayed silent again.

"You promise you wont tell anyone?..."

"I promise."

"Well, I feel pretty insecure about myself. That's it."

Keith raised an eyebrow, understanding that what she had to say was pretty important. He then sat against the door, ready to listen to what she had to tell him.

"What do you mean?"

"That's very embarrassing..."

"No it's not. No worries."

"Physically."

"Wha- Why? Idon't see anything wrong with you."

Pidge sighed behind the door.

"It's... more complicatetd then that. I just don't feel confortable when my body is exposed so when he dropped me in the water... Well... Anyways, I don't really want to talk about it yet but thanks for worrying."

"All right. But if one day you need to talk about it, you can call me anytime."

She softely smiled. He didn't see it because she was behind the door, but it was like he felt it.

Then, the door opened:

"All right, now, it's my turn to get my revenge with Lance."

She said with a mischievous smile.

"Ho no... are you two going to fight all these vacations for that little argument?.."

"Only if he doesn't apologize."

"All right, but you better be careful."

"Ho, I can take care of myself"

Keith smiled at her words.

"I know you can."

1. Memphis PD Approach Nichols’ Parents 

Nichols’ mother, RowVaughn Wells, told Don Lemon on CNN This Morning that Memphis police officers banged on her front door that night asking if they knew a Tyre Nichols. She said they proceeded to tell her he was arrested for a DUI and that he’d been in the hospital after being pepper-sprayed and tased.

They neglected to share he was in critical condition. Also, since when do the cops approach the family to announce an arrest?

2. Cops Claim Nichols had “Superhuman Energy”

In the same interview, Nichols’ mother said she was told the nonlethal weapons were used on Nichols because it was “difficult” to handcuff him because he displayed a “superhuman” amount of energy. What a way to reinforce Black stereotypes. A similar thing was described by the officers and paramedics who gave Elijah McClain a fatal dose of amphetamine.

3. The Drug Excuse 

In cases like George Floyd, the part of an autopsy that gets milked the most by the police department is whether they had drugs in their system at the time of their death. It’s more of a scapegoat to take the eyes off the police brutality.

Mrs. Wells said the officers asked if her son was was on any type of drugs. In the video footage of the incident, the officers are heard joking that Nichols “must be” on something.

“He higher than a motherf****r,” one officer says while trying to prop him back up against the patrol car after he slumped over.

“He high as a kite,” says another cop. No, he was fighting for his life.

4. Finding Tyre

Nichols’ parents were told by the police that Nichols was sent to the hospital but were instructed not to go see him because he was still under arrest. Mrs. Wells said when she asked what hospital he was sent to the officers told her he was “nearby.”

At 4 a.m., the doctors at St. Francis Hospital called Nichols’ parents asking why they hadn’t come and informed them Nichols had gone into cardiac arrest and kidney failure, per CNN This Morning. 

As the Wells drove to find their son, it became more believable that the cops may have been trying to cover something up.

5. The Scorpion Unit

The five officers fired from the department and charged in the incident were part of the neighborhood crime-fighting unit which has an alleged shady past of violence. Rodney Wells, Nichols’ father, said he’s heard of multiple occasions where people had been assaulted by Scorpion unit officers. One Memphis resident told WJHL 11 News he was apprehended by the Scorpion unit in an aggressive manner similar to Nichols’ four days before his death.

“All I heard is a ‘Freeze, get out the car. Put your MF hands up before I blow your heads off. Both of you get out the car. Put your hands up. So I put my hands up, and one of the officers proceeded to come to the car, and he physically pulled me out by my shoulder with a gun no more than a foot away from my head,” said Cornell McKinney.

6. Impossible Commands

Per the body camera footage, the officers seemed to get riled up at the perception Nichols was not complying with their commands - all 70 of them. According to an analysis by the New York Times, within the 13 minutes of them trying to handcuff him, they issued over 71 orders, all of which were contradicting and confusing.

In one instance, the officers yell at him to get on the ground when he is on the ground already (they meant face down but didn’t specify). In another, the officers are holding him by his arms but demand he show his hands which results in a punch to the face. After being beaten to a pulp, Nichols lied limp on the ground and was still being yelled at to “lie flat.”

7. Bragging and Lallygagging

In the video footage, more officers arrive to the scene and appear to be joking about the incident as Nichols lied slumped over near a squad car, per AP. They claimed he tried to slam into their cars with his vehicle and tried to grab their gun during the struggle. Every once in a while an officer is seen shining a light on Nichols and walking away or lifting one of his arms to prop him up from falling over.

About 20 minutes go by while the group of over 10 cops banter about the injuries they sustained after practically jumping Nichols until finally someone comes to provide aid. What aid that was beyond staring at Nichols blankly... I can’t even tell you.

9. Vague Details from MPD

You would have never thought even half of these events occurred based off the initial press release of the incident.

“While attempting to take the suspect into custody, another confrontation occurred; however, the suspect was ultimately apprehended. Afterward, the suspect complained of having a shortness of breath at which time an ambulance was called to the scene,” read the statement from the MPD.

The main reason we are here right now with charges, terminations and investigations is because Mr. Wells took a picture of Nichols’ bloated and beaten face to show the internet why they demanded answers. Now, everyone is demanding the same answers.

10. Questions about the Alleged DUI

Memphis Police Chief Cerelyn CJ Davis told Don Lemon on CNN This Morning that by looking at the footage, she still speculates whether there was probable cause for the traffic stop.

“Well, I’m going to be honest with you about the stop itself. What is — what was said was that there was a witnessing of what was considered reckless driving. We’ve looked at cameras, we’ve looked at body-worn cameras, and even if something occurred prior to this stop - We have not been able to substantiate the reckless driving,” said Chief Davis.

Nichols didn’t even have the chance to be charged and prove his innocence. He was never read his rights or allowed to speak to an attorney. His life was dwindling while in custody.

11. Previous Abuse Allegations

One of the five cops charged in the incident, Demetrius Haley, was previously sued for abuse of force of a prison inmate when he worked for the Shelby County detention center, reports say. The suit was dropped so the case never made it to court.

Either way, it’s shameful to be accused in a beating at one job to be accused in another at your new job just a few years later. 

12. Can We Trust Chief Davis?

According to the Hastings Tribune, Chief Davis previously led Atlanta’s Special Operations Section including the Red Dog unit which was disbanded following police brutality accusations and illegal searches. How ironic that Davis’ Scorpion unit in Memphis is accused of doing the same.

Davis was fired from the Atlanta Police Department in 2008 after allegedly botching a pedophilia investigation. She was reinstated after challenging her termination and retired in 2016. After, she ended up as police chief of the Durham, Nc. police department and left there to join Memphis PD in 2021.

We love a Black woman in power but after Nichols’ death, the public is beginning to question if Davis deserves her job.
