For the sake of some background, I’ve been RPing on Tumblr for about 15 years, and during that time I’ve run a good number of blogs and participated in a number of fandoms. Back in the day when Tumblr was more active (and when I was more active), there were times when it was hard to keep some of my inboxes under 100 messages at any given time.

This is not to brag about past engagement, but simply to express that I’ve been on this platform for a long time, have been present and active in a variety of ways, and have had a lot of people reach out to me directly in one form or another over the years. Be it askbox messages, replies/reblogs on posts, strangers @-ing me on things they’ve made for me or wanted me to look at/read, private messages, actual ‘snail mail’, etc., I’ve had it all, and, cumulatively, I’ve had a fairly respectable amount of it.

Where I’m going with this is that, in spite of all of that collective engagement, I’ve probably only had around, like…? Maybe 15 messages that might possibly qualify as ‘anon hate’, out of literal thousands. And the rude, passive-aggressive messages that I do remember weren’t even hate so much as simple entitlement and/or hurt feelings, most often because I wasn’t writing or posting art fast enough to suit someone, they were upset at me for responding to others but not to them, they took issue with my written tone, etc.

Point being: I’ve never had an ‘anon hate’ problem in the first place, and at this point I’m pretty much convinced it’s because I don’t present myself as someone who’s going to give a dramatic or amusing response to petty foolishness, if I give a response at all. I am un-fuck-withable.

That they all just feel dead-eyed and uncanny. This movie deserved better, and instead we get this halfassed excuse of a “style blend of 2D and 3D” that they want to call a love letter to hand drawn animation, and yet it has none of the charm or likability. And since the characters aren’t cartoon-y enough, the cartoony expressions feel out of place.

I won’t even get into the songs, which sound like they were written by someone with very little songwriting experience trying to imitate the success of Encanto’s music, but not understanding how it worked. No, that’s an issue for another time.
