So I'm just assuming that when arcanists start showing signs of magic, it first starts off as "wild" magic. Random bursts of shazam and all that. As they grow up, then it starts to become something distinct. The game makes it seem that arcanists can cast "spells" or just regular magic (Like with Sonetto and Matilda having similar moves) and at the same time they have a magic that is unique to them. Matilda with her divinity, TF with her healing. Sonneto's case is maybe similar to Blonney in that it involves creating something from their imagination. Furthermore is that Sonneto's ability require intention? or at least a form of emotion and passion (which imo is so cool character-wise because the irony is so so good Sonneto, who strives to be the Foundations perfect soldier. Who strives to follow in its ideal of order before opinion. Before emotion, yet even her own magic contests that. Or maybe I got the details wrong and I'm being delusional LOL but I digress) So yeah, that's what I have in mind so far. I'm glad I finally got around to drawing it out, because the idea has been itching at me since Christmas lmao. Also! I'm also thinking of planting her to be somewhere maybe around the late 19th to early 20th century? Like the rest of the suitcase squad, Vertin will eventually encounter her as part of her being assigned in locating "unregistered/rogue" arcanists in hopes of recruiting them to the Foundation. Yes this idea was mainly made with vernetto / tk14 in mind lol But there's also some schneider mention for the verschneider angst ofc

You know something I just noticed? I don't... actually like Peter Parker.

No, seriously, I like the CONCEPT of Spider-Man and yeah, he's funny at times, but... I can't actually get invested in his canon self. It's ridiculous, it feels less like he's an interesting character and more being a superhero is the ONLY way to make him interesting (I know that's the charm), but...

Like, his phrase, "With great power comes great responsability", it feels... I don't know, childish? I like that nobody's FORCING him to be a hero, but he ALWAYS finds a way to make himself feel guilty over something and his assholeness is funny, but... not necessarily healthy?

The only thing going for him is Spider-Man, which ALSO destroys his life and I know that's somewhat unintentional, but I'm kinda tired of him angsting all the time. For instance: him not killing is Noble, him comiting to his City is admirable. It also makes it so he doesn't really prioritize people unless they had a HUGE impact in him and him not killing, makes the WORST consequences imaginable at times.

Or his "I know better" catastrophic. He's a good character for sure, but... I wouldn't want to be him. Like at all, his powers are cool, yet... that's it. I like his concept more than his canonical self (hell, I prefer his FANON self), the only somewhat exception is his Lego version, but that's cause everyone's sillier.

Anon I sincerely mean no offense but there's two explanations for this ask and one is that you're trolling me and the other is that you haven't really read much Spider-Man. I'm going to assume it's the second to be nice and because you've kind of hit two points that bother me in this fandom and thrown them together in the wash: the first is people forcing themselves to like Spider-Man because they feel like they should and in the process forcing him into this little box of bland and inoffensive likability (fanon Peter) and the second is just. being wrong about basic facts about Spider-Man but assuming they're right because Spider-Man being one of the most popular IPs in the world means everyone thinks they know everything about Spider-Man based on one catchphrase and half a Raimi movie.

And it makes me feel like this.

Like this is not your fault! These assumptions you've brought into my inbox are not your fault. Spider-Man marketing is set up around making people feel like they know Spider-Man and it's a fucking problem because it means people come into a six decade long soap opera with hardline beliefs already stamped on them and it is really hard to get people to change their opinions. I know! I was there! I was one of those people! Every day I'm thankful I didn't post fanfiction when I was in my early Spider-Man days because it would make me look like such a hypocrite but also I didn't know Spider-Man until I committed to reading eight thousand comics.

"Him being a superhero is the only way to make him interesting" potentially yes because one thing about Peter Parker that canon makes abundantly clear is that without Spider-Man he is a miserable fucking bastard. Like he sucks so bad. Spider-Man unleashes a deep well of empathy and kindness in him that might have existed but would not have surfaced without his experiences as Spider-Man because it was locked behind a concrete wall of bitterness twelve feet thick.

"Him not killing is noble but" you're thinking about Batman. You are thinking about Batman. Spider-Man "doesn't kill" the way I'm "not writing this post right now." Peter aims not to kill. Peter talks a whole big game about not killing. His track record on that goal is not great. I have a whole post about that here. (cw for discussions of suicide related to Spider-Man vs Wolverine.)

Like, the thing about Peter and I think this is actually one of the biggest things about Peter is that you can't take what he says about himself 90% of the time too seriously. He is NOT an unbiased narrator of his own life. He will say one thing in his own internal narration and then you will be shown something completely different and you need to trust what you see and not what he tells you.

"Gee whillickers I've never done any crime" says man who literally only does crime. (Web of Spider-Man #43)

Two things can be true simultaneously: Peter can have a no kill rule and Peter can be spectacularly bad at enforcing himself on this rule, because he is a giant hypocrite who believes in double standards for himself first and not for anyone else ever after. This is part of what makes him an interesting character -- it is not hard to push Peter over that no kill line. The character will go there. It's up to the writer, then, to keep Spider-Man's I would say unearned squeaky clean no murder image by throwing a wrench into his plans.

This is not the place for my unhinged powerpoint presentation about how Marvel has backed themselves into a corner on reversing One More Day because to do so with the appropriate narrative weight calls for Peter to kill the Kingpin. He SAID he was going to kill him. And he IS. (He just didn't say he would do it right now.)

"I wouldn't want to be like him" neither would I!! But I am going to argue that this is where Spider-Man marketing has failed everybody because, while there are certainly traits about Peter you're supposed to admire (for all I have been and will keep ragging on him he is without a doubt a bottomless well of goodness and he is one of the most deeply kind, if not nice, characters in the American pop culture landscape), whether or not you want to be a character is not a good litmus test for what makes a good character.

"With great power comes great responsibility is corny" is like. Did you know that the phrase doesn't originate with either Peter or Uncle Ben. The origin of the phrase is in the ending narration of Amazing Fantasy #15, after Peter stops himself from killing the burglar who killed Uncle Ben. It is literally Stan Lee and Steve Ditko making a point to the audience, and that point was later put in Uncle Ben's mouth. Is it corny because it's actually corny? Or is it corny because it has been so endlessly parodied by bad faith actors that its meaning has been diminished? Because all the phrase is doing is pointing out that people with more power (be it physical, economic, or societal) have a greater responsibility to those with less power than them. Because Peter has these gifts, he owes it to other people to act responsibility. You can sum up Spider-Man as a story about power and abuse: the villains abuse their power. Spider-Man is different than the villains because, though he has great power, he chooses not to abuse it. Spider-Man as a character is a distillation of Tikkun Olam, a Jewish principle that means "healing the world." "You do not have to finish the work, but you cannot abandon it." This is why Spider-Man is street level. He doesn't have to finish the work. He doesn't have to save the whole world. He just has to do what is in his power to do, every single day, and that's where the conflict comes in, because it would be easier for him to walk away, but because he has the power, and because he is an ethical man, he can't. And this concept was distilled down very, very well in "with great power comes great responsibility" because it's a very simple phrase that takes a complex ethical issue and makes it easy to understand.

Spider-Man is not a faceless cardboard cutout you're supposed to endlessly project on and the Disneyified marketing's insistence on that is what ends up with people insisting that a character who has remained popular in the culture for six decades has zero actual personality traits and is instead just some mirror to hold up against the viewer, letting them reflect whatever they want back on him. And it sucks.

And then I, as a person who loves canon 616 Peter and think he's one of the most complex and realistic characters ever written specifically because he is so flawed, end up writing these screeds even though I told myself I wasn't doing Spider-Man discourse any longer.

But like here's the thing about the second point: you are not obligated to like any character. This has been bothering me about greater Spider-Man fandom (and adaptations) for years because I think there's this incredible push for people to like Peter Parker. There's this feeling like, yeah, you have to like this guy, because he's so popular, and because so much of the marketing is based upon everyone liking him. The truth of the matter is not every character is going to resonate with every fan and that's totally normal. But there's this idea that you have to like Peter Parker especially, because he's the relatable superhero, but no one character is going to be relatable to everyone, and in order to make him more relatable to the widest audience possible (the most desirable to advertisers audience possible) (white cis goyishe straight men ages 8-40) (who might buy a sportscar) his actual personality has to be watered down as much as possible so he can be used, essentially, as a mirror to reflect the audience, instead of as a fully developed character that the audience can empathize with if not relate to. This is why the MCU movies look like that. It's why the last few comic runs have looked like that. You are not obligated to like Peter Parker if he doesn't work for you. There is literally nothing wrong with that. But so much of Spider-Man fandom is built on people who don't like canon Peter and instead erode his personality in various ways to fit him into neat little boxes which is how we end up with fanon Peter, who resembles, in practice, what you're describing a lot more than canon Peter does. And if you like fanon Peter, that's fine. Lots of people like fanon Peter! That's why he's so widespread, because he's much easier for fans to project whatever they want to on him. That's not an insult, but an observation, because I think he serves a purpose. It's not canon Peter's purpose, and it's not a purpose I personally am interested in, which is also fine, because not everything works for every person.

Canon Peter is complicated, and he doesn't always do the most likable thing, and he has a lot of flaws, but that's what makes him interesting and so fully developed. And a fully developed character is one not everyone is going to like. There's literally nothing wrong with that.

One thing that has confused me from the very beginning is the notion that there's no evidence of ghostflower in ATSV or that ghostflower shippers are delusional for thinking that they have endgame potential.

I've always liked the Spiderverse franchise, loved it. When ITSV ended a few years ago, I was neither here nor there about Gwen and Miles. I loved both characters as individuals, and the friendship arc was cool. It seemed like there was a bit of a puppy crush, by the end, on both parts but I wasn't particularly wooed.

But when ATSV came along with the pining, the unvoiced tension, the quiet ease, the pent up passion, the channeling of that passion through artforms, the securing of keepsakes, the willingness to do what it took for the sake of seeing the other and the overwhelming angst; it was very inevitable, very clear, in some instances very relatable what they were even when they wouldn't say it.

And unexpectedly, I found myself really rooting for their unspoken campaign to create first times for things and to pursue what seemed impossible.

So, I found it quite ironic when reasons kept coming up for why they shouldn't do just that. When the crux and crucible of the film rests on what they discover and become on their own and together. The opposition that has emerged in the fandom reflects many of the observations and satirical notes that the creators have made themselves.

Now, don't get me wrong, people are free to dislike the Gwiles/Ghostflower ship if they'd like to. That's entirely their right. But to deny that the creators intentionally sowed seeds of the type of connection between the two, well, that's a bit unreasonable.

One can maintain their dislike, but objective observation shows that there's mutual attraction between the two. More than that, according to the script.

As a result, the notes in the screenplay really shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. It's confirmation of what we should have already known, seen, and suspected.

All of this was intentional from the beginning.

Pascal's claim that it was a love story wasn't a running gag or an understatement. And so, the only way to satisfactorily end BTSV is not by questioning whether or not they'd actually be together but by establishing an effective and believable 'how' in the method towards making ghostflower canon.

Hm. I kinda like this angle with Ben's frustration. He feels like he's not living up to his full potential as a hero because he always has Gwen and Max helping him. It's different from when Ben would get cocky in the OG, and I think it's an interesting point, too :p This blatantly isn't about being a hero, it's about the thrill, which is something that ten-year-old Ben consistently struggled with

I definitely don't like how the fights are animated? It feels... slow. And I get part of that is to build up suspense/show of Alien X's abilities, since this show is aimed at a younger audience who wouldn't be familiar with the Classic continuity, but still :/ I don't like the flat camera angles and the hits don't have a lot of weight to them

Love that Alien X is killing off Ben's, though — something Eon was always too pussy to do

I love villains who are obsessed with Ben Killing him, hunting him down, whatever. Watching villains shove aside whatever or whoever gets in their way to pursue Ben with single-minded fervor always hits good.

This fight between Ben and Alien X, up until he loses the Omnitrix, is probably my favorite fight in the special. Alien X was at his coolest and Ben really gave it his all, no matter how badly he got beat in return.

Okay, just finished it. Final thoughts? It was really cute. Is it good enough to get me to watch the rest of the reboot? No. It's definitely not as hype as some of UAF/OV's high points, probably in part because I still can't get into the art style and also because the fight scenes just aren't as good.

It had pretty good pacing! I was surprised by that, I thought 45 minutes was gonna be too short, but it ended up feeling right. (Also, I'm upset to say that Max's voice grew on me. Gwen is on thin ice.)

You can tell that this was made with a lot of love, both for the characters and for Ben 10 as a whole. It really does feel like a love letter to the fandom, and for that, it was a good watch :)

Final score: 7/10, not NEARLY as bad as I was expecting, worth a rewatch <3

ok, you're actually dating at this point - not quite at the l word stage, but you've done weekends away together and you have drawers and wardrobe space for your clothes/a set of toiletries and skincare and a toothbrush in each other's houses... basically, it's getting serious. and, crucially, you're both really fucking happy! anyway, matty gets an invite for a london fashion week event one friday night, him and george going to some dinner then menswear collection show and drinks reception thing afterward, and he's popped into the office on his way just to say hi to you before you go home for the night (and to get an ego boost from you telling him how hot he looks lol). you fix his tie for him, and matty's a bit mopey like "wish you were coming with me, babe. far less fun without you"; you kiss him softly like "nahhhh, go out and have some fun, it'll be good. and if you wanna pop round to mine after it, feel free - i'm in the whole night, so just show up whenever you're done, and you can tell me all about it". he smiles, agrees, then kisses you goodbye and dashes off because he's running late lol. and like, fair enough, the dinner is nice and the show is good and it's lovely to spend time with george and catch up with some people he hasn't seen in ages, but the whole time matty keeps thinking about how he's out on a friday night while you're at home, which makes him think about the angsty moment/almost breakup he instigated a few months ago, and all of a sudden he's wracked with guilt over how he treated you that weekend and starting to panic about the fact he's out and you're not and going into a little spiral about potentially being a hypocrite and fucking up your relationship again (which is the last thing he wants to do). he stays at the afterparty for an hour before the need to see you becomes unbearable, but drinks as if he was there for double that time - when you open your door, wet-haired and wearing his grey santa cruz hoodie and smiling when you see him, matty's tipsy and a little bit melancholy. you usher him in and give him a hug, which he reciprocates with a "missed you, sweetheart. how's your evening been?", and you're like "it's been nice, actually. had a bit of a pamper, opened some wine, watched the west wing. nowhere near as fun as your night, i'm sure lol. was it good?"; matty smiles and says "was ok. clothes were good. food was nice. but your night sounds better. you cool if i crash it, baby?", and you're like "mhmm. go get changed and i'll get us some wine", and matty obliges. when he heads back into your living room, you open your arms and he slots between them on the couch, and the two of you watch josh and donna banter for a bit before matty speaks - he's like "baby, we're ok, right?", looking up at you, and you're like "i think so. why? am i doing something wrong?", a little bit nervy. matty kisses your hand like "no, no, darling, i just...", and he pauses before quietly continuing "i'm just worried that i am, s'all. fucked up big-time when i ghosted you and tried to end it a few months back, and i'm just scared, i guess, that i'll fuck it again somehow. wanna be good for you, be enough. nah, actually, not enough - wanna be right for you, the best i can be, and i'm scared i'm not". you wrap your arms around matty and kiss the top of his head like "oh, baby, please don't worry like that. we're good, we really are. that was just a little blip", and matty's like "really?" - you softly card your fingers through his hair, which makes him hum contentedly and close his eyes, as you say "really. we're good. great, even. you're the best i could ever want, all i could ever need. and if you messed up, you'd hear about it from me immediately lol". matty giggles at that like "oh, i know i would. s'one of the things i like most about you, sweetheart. your hugging ability is also up there, tbh", and you smile like "speaking of... wanna watch the rest of this episode doing some of that in my bed instead of down here?", and matty's like "absolutely". yeah, it's very sweet <3

1. Along Came a Spider

If you aren't reading this one, you're wrong because it's super good? Basically, Roier gets bit by a radioactive spider, Quackity is I think Norman Osborn, and Cellbit is a Very Normal Person who definitely isn't a literal cat burglar. It's super well written, all the characters are fun, there's a lot of intrigue going on, and the fandom needs more superhero aus, and what better character to use than the literal Spider-Man?

2. Divided Soul

I think everyone's been keeping up with this one, but I still recommend it!! It's some cool high fantasy shit starring Vegetta as a prince being haunted by his ex boyfriend (/pos) and Foolish as the Literal Most Traumatized Man On Earth. If you like angst and hurt/comfort, this is the one for you.

3. eternally, forever.

Another Fooligetta fic, this one's another popular one, but for good reason! It's heartbreaking in the amount of love you can feel coming off of Foolish the entire time, and then? Yeah. Read it, it's definitely worth it.

4. The Reason (English version linked here, but definitely check out the Portuguese or Spanish ones if that language works better for you!!

Where do I even begin. F!Cell never escaped from prison, and he is making it everybody's problem, including the new guy on the (cell) block, Roier, who is definitely supposed to be there. Definitely. This one's darker so only check it out if you're into like. Dark shit. But also it's super good, so yeah!!

5. partners (in crime)

This one is an Ordem Paranormal au and it's only one chapter rn but I think there will be more? Unsure! But, as it is, it's cute! I don't know a ton about OP, but Cellbit gets teased, and everyone is cute, and I hope there's more because I'm already invested. It is in Portuguese, but translating it is so worth it.

6. Red Gunpowder

This one's a newer one, only one chapter so far, but I'm super into it already I think? Basically, Cellbit is a Traumatized Cop and Roier is... not in the fic yet, but he sounds fun just from the description. The first chapter was pretty cool, and I can't wait to see where it goes!

7. Icarus is Flying Too Close to the Sun & This is How It Feels to Take a Fall (series linked)

Two fics in one bullet point because they're both just that good! All three of Bobby's parents try and get Bobby back, and it's super heartfelt and I felt Emotions and it's sweet :( Definitely read it!

8. your palms; a home for my soul

This one is so SWEET!! Basically, Roier's heart is broken, and he goes to a heart fixer to... fix it. (It's magic, don't question it.) It's a twoshot, but it's sooooo cute, the metaphor is INSANE and I went AAAA

9. Breaking Dawn

So this one's pretty popular as well, but it's for good reason! Basically, Cellbit is a wannabe paranormal investigator and Roier is a werewolf. I think it was supposed to just be a romcom from the author's description, but there's so much more? There's this whole sideplot with Felps being kidnapped and Roier being real shady about everything and Cellbit being the densest man on the planet, and it's super worth a read if you've got a couple hours to spare!

10. The Red Means I Love You!!

Okay so you know me by now, you know I love fucked up little guys finding love, and this one sure does have a fucked up little guy! Basically, q!Cellbit accidentally summons c!Roier to possess his husband when he was trying to summon Romero Richas to interrogate it, and things sure do happen. The characterization is killer, and so is c!Roier, who is so desperate for love that he'd kill for it. (Unfortunately for him, he's kinda met his match in the form of someone who'd kill to get his love back.)

11. Bad Romance

This is the direct sequel to the last fic, and normally I'm not too into that? But this one's worth it imo. Picking up after the end of the last fic, c!Roier breaks f!Cell out of prison and f!Cell definitely doesn't manipulate Roier into agreeing to help him murder Pac e Mike over them leaving him behind in prison. I'm not too into toxic relationships, but I have hope for these two tbh, who else could love them but each other?

Last night I innocently uploaded the pic of Neo and Ruby gaming on Twitter, but I got pretty much replied by people who were very much judgmental and passive-aggressive about being shocked, etc, etc (lots of them minors), lost some followers, etc

I am very affected by those situations because at some points it feels like harassment for something so stupid (I've seen wishes of death towards me before for old Fallen Petals stuff), no one ever takes the moment to even talk with me about it, nor try to understand the development and process that made me ship it in the first place- that it's actually a pretty innocent wish of building up a cool ship to have fun with my friends.

I have very bad anxiety from PTSD and I don't have access to meds rn, so things that get out of hand can really affect my mental and physical health, like, people don't keep in mind that the major part of the time, the people they accuse are people with problems like me, that are dealing with irl stuff or trauma and simply want to have some positive fun on the internet, to escape a bit from it all- art and writing has been a good coping mechanism for me to not practice self harm, and my therapist was actually proud of me for it, so I don't want that taken from me, specially when I'm mindful and tag things properly. And when honestly, discovering RWBY and messing around with some ships helped to make me happier. Because I think it was about time.

RubyNeo isn't even following all canon details, Ruby's more practiced and slightly older, and honest to God, I don't see what's wrong with building an AU with headcanons when we aren't doing it for the sake of, what?? only having them fuck?? or oversexualizing them?? the people that literally oversexualizes Ruby and only do lewds or only smash her against another character so they fuck is something that pushes me SO back because I personally find it disgusting (and if I'm in a mood I can have am anxiety attack for it, same for other dynamics, like incest, etc etc).

So for the love of everything, blacklist, block me or whatever, but understand the kind of person I am or the building for the things I do or the things I draw before I'm labeled as things I'm not. Because I'm sure you wouldn't want it to happen to you.

Treat me like a person, not like some kind of idealized artist that has to be perfect.

Show some empathy, try to be understanding, not everyone that ships 'x' is going to be a super evil person that did it with the most malicious intent in the world. Sometimes we're simply playing with them like they're Barbies, to create stories, angst, wholesome moments, independent timelines, etc.

Like I mentioned I myself deal with PTSD, there are so many things that despite being presented in good faith could throw me off the edge because of triggers, but I simply take care of myself and tag stuff, I blacklist and in the worst case I block, specially if someone is specially harmful and toxic to real people.

So please, just, let me be, I'm just a nerd trying to live life alongside friends to be as happy as I can because I've had enough abuse already.

Be kinder unless the person in question is GENUINELY harming real people and are potential real creeps, please, I'm tired.

In the weeks leading up to the arrival of their Ambassador, you had to give Zhongli a crash course in how to impress a Sneznhayan. The northernmost kingdom was often seen as icy and distant, but once you got to know their customs, it was not as difficult as one would think.

However, despite your help, he still insisted you spend the next few weeks resting in your chambers, recovering from your broken rib, which meant it was you and he, stuck in very close quarters as you explain every little detail. You had spent plenty of time in the land of snow in the years he had been gone, after all, you had been set to marry their prince…which is why they were now upset with Zhongli.

“So what was the prince like, anyway?” He asks you one day as you go over things again with him, you wince.

“Ugh Ajax?” you grumble “I mean…he’s alright? He’s not actually the Tsaritsa’s kid…apparently she could never conceive, so she adopted him.”

Zhongli raises an eyebrow as he looks up from his paperwork “Truly? I’m sure there’s some sort of loophole we could exploit there…” “Don’t try.” You warn him “She loves Ajax more than life itself. It’ll just make more problems.” 

Zhongli hums, leaning his head against this hand as he watches you.

“Did you like Ajax?” He asks after a moment.

“Like I said, he’s alright…but he…I dunno…there’s something about him that always kinda freaked me out?”

“Oh? Do explain.” Zhongli presses, watching as your brow furrows.

“It’s… hard to explain I guess.” you start with a sigh “Sometimes he’s great…he’s funny, smart…a genuinely cool person to hang out with…I would consider him a friend.”

Zhongli notes the conflicted look upon your face, and the way you fall silent as you consider you next words, he finds himself invested, what on earth was wrong with the prince of the snow to cause his own little love such confusion?

“Sometimes it’s like…a switch would flick in him.” You eventually manage out after several long minutes of trying to figure out the right words. “So…Ajax has always been interested in combat, he’s a member of the royal guard as well as being the prince….right?”

Zhongli nods, not entirely unheard of…hell, the king had once spoken to Zhongli about the potential of his sons, her brothers, joining the guard…an idea Zhongli had quickly discouraged because…to be honest, they wouldn’t have survived a day.

“No one will spar against him.” 

“I mean, he’s the prince-” Zhongli adds.

“No you don’t understand, Zhongli. It’s not that no one will fight him because of his status…it’s because those foolish enough to fight him…don't usually come out in one piece…literally.” 

At first, He thinks she’s joking, but he can see it in her eyes, that… haunted look, and he finds himself invested.

“Like I said…it’s a switch…the moment combat happens… he goes from this sweet, kinda goofy guy to… the only words I have for it is… bloodthirsty monster” you sigh.

“Hm…he seems a rather… interesting character…” 

“That’s a word for it.” You huff.

“And what of this Ambassador? Do you happen to know him?” 

At this, you perk up a little “Yes actually! I’ve met him a couple of times… he’s one of the funny ones that goes by a weird name.” “You mean like the captain of the guard is literally called Capitano?” Zhongli snorts, you nod.

“Yep, just like that.” you sigh “His name is Pantalone- Don’t you start!” 

“Start what?” Zhongli snickers, receiving a pillow to the face “His name is pants-”

“ I know!” you sigh, pinching the bridge of your nose “I know his name is pants.”

Sometimes you found Zhongli’s presence a little less frustrating than you used to

“Um…your highness-” Zhongli mutters from beside you.

“I see him.” you grunt; already feeling a vein ready to pop in your head “I thought you said they were sending the Ambassador”

“They said they were”

You pinch the bridge of your nose, already you were very tired of today. Sure your rib had been healed for several weeks, but it had been a very long time since you’d had to dress up this fancily… and you’d even broken out the formalwear the Tsaritsa had tailored for you upon your first visit to them.

“So why then…am I seeing the prince…and his happy gaggle of men…approaching the castle?” you ask, your voice is terse and thin, this was not what was meant to happen, even Zhongli looks absolutely and utterly confused. 

“You know him better than I do…” Zhongli sighs, also looking equally as uncomfortable. For all the king he was, it was not often that he had to dress so regally, even you knew he was far more used to chainmail and plate, not heavy, ornate suits. 

“Is it to late to back out-” 

“Absolutely.”

”Damn.” you sigh, this was about to get…*uncomfortable*

You find yourself standing beside the throne: on Zhongli’s right, as the throne room doors burst open. In the corner of your eye you see both Zhongli’s grip on the arms of the throne tighten, and Xiao, stationed to his left, hand tightening on the hilt of his sword as your ex-fiance bounds into the room like an unruly child.

There is a moment where all is still, as if time stops as his eyes land on you.

And in the next moment, he’s sprinting towards the throne, manic look upon his boyish features. You see Zhongli poise to stand, Xiao taking hold of his sword properly, and then you’re engulfed by strong, and unfortunately familiar arms as Ajax laughs warmly. 

This was what you were afraid of. 

The prince lifts you from your feet and twirls you like you weigh nothing, as you spin, you spy Ganyu, by the doors, her eyes wide in shock at his display.

“My little krolik!” Ajax laughs as he finally ceases the godawful spinning and sets you down, his eyes are bright and his smile is wide as he looks you up and down. “It’s so good to see you again!” 

You don't see it, but you can feel the absolute fury radiating off of Zhongli when Ajax leans in to do exactly what you knew he’d do next, and you thankfully, shift your head in time. He kisses you, thanks to your quick movement, it’s only on the corner of your mouth, before he continues kissing affectionately up your cheek and to your forehead. 

If it wasn't for the fact you were trying to pry this idiot prince off you, you probably would have found this situation funny, but there was no room for ruining Zhongli’s day here. 

“Ajax…I wasn’t expecting you.” You finally manage to huff out as you push the overly affectionate prince away, but he simply grins, totally uncaring that he’s not yet introduced himself to the King, right beside him. “We were told Ambassador Pantalone-”

“Oh! Yeah as soon as I heard ol’ Pants was being sent here I immediately took over! I wanted to see you again my darling krolik!” Ajax interjects “I wanted to make sure you were alright!”

“Ajax.” you sigh, shaking your head, you knew he was impulsive but this? This was something else entirely. “I know I left in a hurry last time but have you no faith in my abilities?” 

“Ahem…” Xiao is the one to finally save you with his well timed, if not violently forced cough, snapping the prince’s attention away from you and to Zhongli, who is raising a none-too-impressed eyebrow at the boy.

“Oh, Right! Heya!”

Heya… this idiot has just come all the way from his home country as the representative…and he greets the king with a heya. 

You’re sure the sound of your palm making contact with your face echoes loudly throughout the throne room.

You are thankful that after such a long trip, dinner and sleep is the only thing on Ajax and his men’s minds, you personally escort Ajax to his room and bid him goodnight, if only to know he would no longer bother you. Considering he’d all but attached himself to your arm the entire day, just like he did every time you had been to Sneznhaya since being promised to him. 

You did your best to keep him from saying anything… inflammatory in front of Zhongli, you didn't want a war breaking out, but goddamn you also did not want to be here.

Even if watching Zhongli’s eye twitch every time Ajax got affectionate with you was somewhat entertaining.

In order to return to your own chambers from the guest wing, you find yourself shambling past the king’s study…you didn’t even notice the lantern lit inside, until you hear your name called from within.

Zhongli sits, at his desk, a bottle of a fine looking, amber coloured liquid in his hand. As you poke your head inside, he grabs not one, but two glasses.

Honestly after the day you’d had? You don't question it, entering silently and shutting the door behind you before you drop, ungraciously, into the chair on the opposite side of the desk, with enough force that the pile of paperwork set upon the mahogany and gold tabletop shudders. 

It’s silent, as Zhongli sets down both glasses and pours the whiskey, there is silence as you take your glass.

There is silence as he raises his own and clinks it against yours and there is silence as you both throw back the drinks.

”That is a prince!?” Zhongli howls as he slams down his glass, the paperwork gives another shudder.

”Excuse you.” you grunt ”that. Is my ex-fiance!” 

Zhongli snorts at the exact moment you crack a small grin, he motions for you to hold out your glass again as he refills his own. You share another shot in silence.

“He is aware that he is an ex, yes?” He asks, you shrug.

“He should! I mean…even his mother knows…”

“Is he stupid?”

You look over your glass at Zhongli, raising a single eyebrow.

He pours you another glass as an apology for a stupid question.

“If you are as smart a man as I remember, you will have more of this on hand.” you eventually mumble as you turn the amber liquid around in your glass “we’re going to need it.”

Zhongli scoffs at you.

“This is the youngest of my collection.”

“By the time this is over, we’ll need the vintage.”

I. Participants

Nothing really big about this part, just that all of the soul pairs except Box Boys are here for potential refs and angst (there has already been a lot)

NOTE: I have only fully watched 6 out of the 14 possible POVs, so info regarding people I haven't watched might be limited to what the comments tell me when I make a mistake This info comes from watching these POVs and snippets of the other ones.

It seems like everyone is teaming with pretty much their usual crowd (ie, Jimmy/Joel/Grian , Cleo/Bdubs , Skizz/Imp/Tango/Etho) except for the notable exception of BigB and Pearl, which I don't think have teamed up together in a series before?

I could totally see Etho and Martyn teaming up after this episode, especially later in the season when TIES eventually break up.

III. Base Locations (based off of limited info from episode 1)

Team T.I.E.S seems to be basing on the edge of the main land mass underground. I can't tell if they have cows after Martyn's TNT but they have wheat and chickens, as well as sugarcane. NOTE: Etho seems to be basing close to but not WITH Tango, Impulse, and Skizz. Idk what this means but it's interesting to see what happens

Scott and Martyn are basing right next to TIES on a floating island in the ocean. I didn't watch their episodes but from Etho's it looks like they have both sugarcane and a zombie villager in a boat.

Bad Boys are basing .... *checks notes*.... on top of the woodland mansion .... made of wood .... wait? so Jimmy "our Ranch is burning down!" Solidarity and Joel "If the ship burns everything burns!" Smallishbeans are going to base on the top of the most flammable structure known to Minecraft? Okay cool.... this won't go horribly wro- oh and Cleo’s already burned the whole thing down great that lasted about 2 seconds

Cockers Clockers are based literally just at spawn. There entire thing is going to be building a stadium so they can laugh at people when they die.... I hate them (/lie)

Pearl and BigB are based between spawn and the woodland mansion on the edge of the stone cliff. I hope they slay and thrive there

IV. Mechanics

Okay so, there seems to be a lot more rules to this one than the other ones, so here's what I've gathered.

Everyone has a timer that counts down from 24 hours, this timer started when the series started

When the clock reaches 0 for the player, they are eliminated

There seems to be 2 ways to lose time: Being killed or dying. If you are killed by the boogeyman, it subtracts two hours from your time. If you are killed by natural gameplay (ie creeper, fall damage, etc.) you only lose 1 hour of time. (NOTE: it's not said how many hours are taken away if you're killed from non-boogeyman PVP, but I'm assuming it will still be 2 hours)

There is only 1 way to ADD time to your clock: kill players. When you are the boogeyman, you can kill whoever you want, and when you do you are given 30 minutes to your timer. EDIT: thanks to a comment I now have this info: If you are the boogeyman and you fail to kill a player within the 3 hours (that's how long they record for), you are dropped down to the next color life. For example, if you are a green name boogeyman and fail to kill, your time will go down to 16 hours and you will become yellow. This is the same for the yellow to red drop. (NOTE: Some ccs have said in their videos that it's + 1 hour, however Grian's intro says + 30 minutes which is what i'm going off of. Not sure if the + 30 minutes applies to non-boogeyman PVP kills, however I suspect it does)

Everyone starts as a green name, and the players turns yellow when they have less than 16 hours left on their timer. A player turns red when they have less than 8 hour on the clock

Most of the same rules apply to PVP as before: greens cannot kill anyone, yellow names can now kill green names even if they aren't provoked , and red names can kill everyone. Boogeyman kills can happen to anyone regardless of color. I suspect these rules will not be strictly followed like they have been for every season but yaknow we'll see.

V. Episode 1 Specifically

This series seems actually super cool! Here's some of the thoughts as a writer of traffic series fics and just a general enjoyer of episode 1. I like writing my opinions and these were written in real time while I was watching each POV.

The mechanic has so much angst potential. I’m thinking a curse that slowly eats away at your body until you die. As the timer counts down, people will become more desperate to survive and that’s where alliances will fall. This season has probably the best potential for angst out of all of them, especially when people started running out of time.

just imagine with me: Tango and Etho are in a cave, Tango realizes he only has a minute left on his clock while Etho has maybe an hour and a half. Tango can't kill Etho cause it will just kill his friend immediately, so they both have to just... sit there while Tango's timer ticks by and he eventually gets eliminated by the mechanics of the game. HOW HORRIFYING IS THAT PEOPLE !!!!! I love it >:)

Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of this series, and my opinion with probably change as more episodes come out, but I feel like it will be much easier to predict who will win this season than others because of the timer. like there is already a very strong likelihood that skizz will die first, just because if every kill only gives you 30 minutes, he would have to kill 10 people to even get back to normal, where as Bdubs and Scott have already killed 1 person and hasn’t died once, which means they are ahead. Basically, I think we’ll be able to see who will die first/not win very easily, which maybe will take away some of the suspense? I hope not, but that’s my thought rn.

SKIZZ'S COMPLIMENT TO ETHO WAS LITERALLY SO SWEET? Like it was 100% true and props to Etho for taking it like a champ. Etho really is the most likable guy in the Minecraft space, and he shines like a diamond in these kinds of thing with his friends. I'm glad Skizz took the time to recognize it and say it to his face. He deserves all the love.

🚧 if Bdubs is (maybe canonically) related to both his team members, there is little opportunities for sus mlm activity from him, and he will have to find bitches elsewhere, which might be difficult

VII. Conclusion

Um.... this was a really long post.... I'm sorry? I just wanted to make it because I had all this info in my head and it was spinning around in there and it needed to get it out. And maybe someone will find the first part useful! Who knows.

In real conclusion, Etho deserves the win. I don't care what you think should happen, this is what the universe wants. Yes, this is coming from an Ethogirl, and yes, I know I'm also the self proclaimed #1 smallishbeans enjoyer, but i just feel like Etho should be this seasons champ.

Even if I'm looking at it from a completely objective POV, Etho IS one of the top candidates for this specific mechanic/season. He barely dies in these games and he's generally good at boogeykills/PVP so I could see him losing very little time in terms of deaths but gaining a lot with kills. Also, no one really dares to kill him with the boogey (if we can take anything away from last life) so that too is a bonus.

Looking at your pie charts and how you said Jonah needs to be the caretaker more often - how about Leo waking up from a nightmare all sobbing and feverish? Has all the fluff and angst potential but little to no actual sickness depending on how you write it.

(I'm actually obsessed with their relationship, the way you make Leo bring out the best in Jonah is just 👌 *chefs kiss*)

Jonah couldn't get comfortable and he had no idea why. He rolled on the bed again, barely conscious through the edges of his dream - he was at the seaside - and then pressed his forehead to Leo's arm, only to frown as he felt trembling.

Now starting to wake up, Jon rubbed at his eye, trying to get Leo in focus. His boyfriend was lying on his back, but his lips were moving, face tinted pink and drenched in sweat.

"Leo?" Jonah frowned, sitting up on the bed. How hadn't he realized he was sleeping basically right next to a sauna? "Leo, wake up."

More mumbling, a big frown appearing on his face and a whine. Leo started to cry and Jonah's heart sank. He shook him again, "baby, it's just a dream. Wake up," then harder when that got no reaction, "Leo, wake up!"

Finally he opened his eyes, more startled than anything, jumping away from Jonah and nearly falling off the bed. Leo was panting, the tears clinging to his lashes.

"Jon...?"

"Who else?" Jonah rolled his eyes, approaching slowly, "come here before you fall."

"What's wrong?" Leo asked, confused, "why are you angry?"

"I'm not angry, I'm worried," he managed to grab his boyfriend, despite the blonde trying weakly to avoid him. Slowly he pulled Leo from the edge, planting a hand on his forehead, "you're burning up, Leo."

"I don't feel well..." he admitted quietly, hugging his knees to his chest, "my head hurts..."

"You're probably dehydrated, you sweat through the sheets," Jonah pointed out, "c'mon, let's get you in the shower."

"No, stop," Leo shook his head, "I'm too dizzy-"

"I'll hold you," Jonah assured him, "or we could try the bath." Either way, he'd have no choice on the matter of cooling off. Leo let out another groan, leaning against the headboard.

"Where's JD?"

"She's sleeping," Jon rolled his eyes, studying him, fingers trailing on his neck, "your throat is inflamed, I can tell already," he sighed, getting up and grabbing Leo's arms, "c'mon-"

"Stop, stop, stop touching me," Leo whimpered, curling up further, "jussstop."

Jonah raised his eyebrows, dropping his wrists as if they were burning, "Leo...?"

"Please, just-" he gestured him away and hugged himself, taking deep measured breaths, "don't touch me."

"I'm not," Jonah sat gingerly on the edge of the bed, deeply concerned, "what's wrong, Leo? Talk with me..."

"I-" he was choked up and his voice broke, "I-I don't feel well... Can I stay home? Please? I'm not gonna be in your way..."

Jonah frowned, glancing out of their window. It was the middle of the night, where exactly did he think he was going...?

"Leo, your work doesn't start for another six hours, baby-"

"I'll behave," he said, big blue eyes filled with tears, "I'll stay out of your hair, I promise, I just- Please don't make me go to school-"

Fuck.

Jonah's stomach froze when he realized just how delirious Leo was and he got up quickly, rushing to the bathroom and grabbing their hand towel and wetting it. He wrung out the excess water and rushed back to the room.

"Okay, okay," he said softly, noticing Leo's big eyes following his every move, "you don't have to go to school," he had to force the words out, "lie back, baby, let's cool you down a little."

"I'll be quiet," he promised, sniffling pitifully and angrily rubbing at the tears that had ran down his face. Jonah shook his head.

"You don't have to," he said, planting the towel on his forehead and noticing how Leo bit down a relieved groan, "I'm going to be right back, okay?"

Leo didn't answer him at all, although his lips were moving. Jonah fought off the panic, rushing back into the bathroom to grab the thermometer, "hold this under your tongue for me, Leo."

He obeyed quietly, pliable and without any arguing, which was more terrifying than anything. Lying on his back with his hair all messy and his blue eyes wide and dazed, he looked damn near close to 18 and Jonah bit the inside of his cheek as he angrily thought of Leo's childhood.

He couldn't linger in his feelings. He opened their bedside table, and pushed the spare batteries for the remote away, grabbing a box of condoms and tearing it open.

"What- What are you doing?" Leo mumbled, rolling onto his side, blinking heavily. Jonah ignored him, fishing out three condoms from the box and rushing to the bathroom, where he filled them up with water.

"Improvising," he said when Leo looked at him puzzled as he returned to the bedroom with the water balloons in his arms, "you need to cool down."

"I don't - I don't get it..." Leo groaned, scooting away from him on the bed, "you're scaring me..."

Jonah could've yelled with frustration. Instead he sat back down and grabbed his boyfriend's arm, pulling him closer again, "shhh, it's nothing bad, I promise-" he ran a hand through his hair, trying to calm him down, "you're alright, you're safe."

That only seemed to alarm Leo more and he let out a whimper, face screwing up with pain, "please stop, stop touching me."

Jonah hissed, pulling his hand back, "sorry... I need you to take off your shirt, Leo."

He watched, feeling nauseous himself, as Leo's eyes widened even more, if possible, and his face paled.

"No, nonono, please, I'll be quiet, I- I can go to class-"

"Fucking hell," Jonah cursed, "baby, I'm not gonna hurt you. Please, I just need to cool you down-"

Leo scrambled away from him and, regardless of how Jonah felt about it, he was a big guy and desperate enough. He put all his force into escaping Jonah's weak grasp on his shirt and rolled on the bed, in his panic to escape hitting his head on the bedside table and falling off the other side of the bed.

"LEO!" Jonah shouted, circling the bed. His boyfriend was flat on his back, looking even dizzier than before, and he had opened his forehead on the edge of the table, blood rushing to his ear and down his eyebrow.

"Aw..." he groaned, completely spent, "I don't feel good..."

"If you gave yourself a concussion on top of that fever, Leo, so help me god," Jonah scoffed, crouching down to his knees and gently touching his head, chest squeezing with worry when Leo flinched away from his touch, "I'm just checking if you opened your head, baby-"

"Jon?"

He could've cried with relief, "yeah, it's me," Jonah sighed as he figured the cut was just superficial, "do you know where you are?"

"On the floor of our room?" Leo groaned, "my head is killing me... I- I'm sleepy."

"You're not going back to sleep," Jonah berated him, shaking him lightly, "c'mon, wrap your arm around my shoulder, let's get you up."

No sooner he managed to get Leo sitting up on the bed, the blonde let out a weak moan and wrapped his arms around his stomach, "Jon... I feel sick."

Getting the hint, Jonah rushed across the room to grab the wastebasket and planted it on his lap, then took the discarded washcloth to wipe the blood from his boyfriend's forehead, making the whole picture a lot less gruesome.

Leo let out a nauseated whine, folding over the basket and resting his forehead on the plastic rim, "I dreamt I was back home..."

Jonah couldn't put into words how much he really didn't want Leo telling him anything when he was in this feverish state. It felt like he was being let in the known of secrets lucid Leo would never ever allow him even close of.

"You're not," he said strongly, "you're here, with me."

Leo nodded, then let out a little airy burp in the bucket, "you don't have to stay, I know it's gross-"

"Can you stand? I want you in a bath, baby, your fever is still really really high."

"Uhmmm, no..." Leo spat inside the bucket, his voice thick with nausea, "the bath will just make me seasick."

"Great," Jonah sighed, annoyed, "then the shirt has got to go."

This time Leo didn't put up a fight. He allowed Jonah to peel it off of him, immediately hugging the bucket back to his chest and gagging loudly, but not managing to bring anything up.

"Here, lie back," Jonah fixed him on the bed, so he could lie against the headboard instead of hang over the edge and risk finishing splitting his head open, "lift up your back-" he planted one of the water balloons behind him, "open your legs-"

"What..." Leo lifted up his head from the bucket, confused, "are those condoms...?"

"We need to cool you down somehow," Jonah shrugged, "and you were pretty out of it."

Leo opened an exhausted smile, "okay..." his stomach let out a gurgle, this one loud enough even Jon heard it and grimaced in sympathy.

"I don't suppose you can stomach meds now?" he said, as if it was even a question and put the final water balloon behind Leo's head, around his neck.

"No fucking way," Leo groaned, burping wetly and spitting again, "not gonna stay down."

"We'll try in a minute," Jonah bit down his lip, pacing next to the bed, "some water-"

"Not," Leo gagged again, managing to bring up just the tiniest mouthful of puke and Jonah was so worried he couldn't even bring himself to be nauseous, "not gonna settle, Jon..."

"Alright, I can- I..." he was running out of ideas and the worry was eating him. Jonah turned up the a/c, then sat on the foot of the bed, "Leo, please talk with me."

"You're freaking out," Leo said tiredly, leaning back against the headboard with his eyes closed. He was so pale that the few freckles he had were standing out like they had been drawn in marker, "I'm okay... The condoms were a smart idea."

Jonah snorted, then leaned in to brush his sweaty hair back, only to catch himself, "can I touch you?"

Leo frowned, opening his eyes in confusion, "yeah, of course..." he let out a heavy sigh as Jonah pushed his hair back, "I didn't mean to scare you."

"Not your fault," Jon said, continuing to pet his hair, "I'm just glad you're back with me."

Leo's eyes shone with recognition, a knowing look that meant he knew exactly how much his feverish brain had overshared, but he didn't say anything, instead leaning heavily onto Jon's touch, "just glad you're here."

Heyy bestie uhm I'm gonna need another part of angst especially after the cheating Ex (seriously tho what a jerk) like how would the clones and batch be like in a new relationship would they be more cautious? Skeptical of there new s/o words and assume they are lying until yhey get proof? Like would they be worried to give there heart to a new person/ s\o not sure whether to trust them or not and if there being honest

Oh boy... more angst eh? I made references to their past relationships a little more vague, so it could fit in with those cheating HCs or you could imagine different reasons as to how their hearts got broken before they put themselves out there again...

Kix, Jesse, and Hunter are calm, cool, and collected... on the outside. Inside, they are stressed the heck out when they start going on dates again. Don't get them wrong, they do very much want to try again. They believe in soulmates and can't wait to find theirs. But there is definitely a lot of internal monologuing. They question everything, including their own feelings... Is that a red flag? Am I comparing them too much to my ex? They don't share any of their insecurities until the new relationship is stable.

Dogma, Tech, and Crosshair would be more adverse to starting a new relationship after having their heart broken. It would take a long, long time for them to be interested in someone new. For them, it's not about trust so much as investment. To commit to the time it takes to get to know someone, the energy it takes to build emotional connections, is very daunting, and they now have firsthand experience that it doesn't always work out. It would take someone truly special for them to risk giving love a second chance.

Fox, Hardcase, and Echo hide the scars on their heart very well. For the most part. By the time they meet someone new they're wanting to pursue, they'll have made peace with a lot of their past and will give the new relationship an honest chance, letting things unfold in their own way and not comparing or worrying about repeating history. But every once in a while, something will happen that'll trigger old wounds quite unexpectedly. They'll be moody and even fearful and they won't know why until someone helps them connect the dots.

Cody, Wolffe, and Tup are cautious. They go on a few dates here and there, acting polite and having an okay time. But they never commit, never take things further. They're not sure why. What are they waiting for? What do they even want in a partner now? They sort of go through the motions without feeling much. It would take someone becoming their friend first to break through whatever apathy they had, and then they'll have a real chance at creating a solid, meaningful, romantic relationship that actually makes them feel good.

Rex, Fives, and Wrecker are total messes. Someone please keep an eye on these poor boys if they choose to re-enter the dating pool again, they'll need all the support they can get so they don't a) emotionally fall apart and/or b) end up in another unhealthy arrangement. Either or both scenarios are likely. Any potential new partners need to be patient and understanding. They'll share their tragic romantic history on the first date and be open throughout the relationship in how they feel about everything, for better or worse.

idk if its canon anymore, but still what do you think about the jedi sending younglings away when theyve gotten too old? like yes the service corps are important and valuable but what if an initiate truly feels like theyre guided by the force to be a knight but no master ever chooses them and so theyre shunted off? do you think the council of reassignment would step in or something? that's a little off track, im just interested to hear your thoughts on how this age limit to be chosen as a padawan and become a knight fits in with the whole culture and theme of the order

To be honest, while I think there's a lot fandom can do with this to make them interesting, especially by showing that they're valuable and no less Jedi, I can't help but see them as a product of their time, specifically in that the book that really created them came out when only The Phantom Menace was out. The prequel movies weren't even complete yet, only the first one had come out, and so the books pretty much had free reign to do whatever they wanted and a lot of times it just did not mesh with who the Jedi were actually shown to be. It felt very much like the whole thing was created to give Obi-Wan angst for the audience that those books were aimed at--young readers who would enjoy the drama of feeling like your life is about to end at the age of 13. (And, like, to be fair to the books, they're not wrong that that kind of story resonated with many kids! XD I absolutely get why a lot of fic authors and fans hang onto that worldbuilding, I can totally see why they enjoy it!) But I don't think the idea of aging out of the Jedi really makes sense, even just from a coldly logical point of view. You put all this time into raising a child and you just kick them out at 13 if there's no Master choosing to train them? That seems like a huge waste of resources and just way too young for a given Jedi to really show their potential. They haven't even hit PUBERTY yet (well, assuming that we're going on a human baseline and age limits are adjusted by species' life spans), but you're leaving it up to whether or not a Master chooses to train them, instead of letting them develop into at least teenagerhood first?? That makes no sense to me, given that the Jedi are always handing out second chances like they're candy. Of course they'd do the same for their children. The Jedi actually seem fairly flexible, like they have rules in place for a reason, but when a case like Anakin comes along, they do bend and allow exceptions for situations that need it. So, I like what a lot of fic authors do with it, in expanding the role of the service corps and worldbuilding for them, but the age limit is one of those things that I just chalk up to "they didn't have even the full movie trilogy to work with yet and I don't think it fits with everything else we see of the Jedi, so it just doesn't really exist in my mind, unless I'm reading fic, and then it's the fic author's playground to do what they want and I can roll with the cool stuff they're going to bring". (It's definitely not canon anymore, at least not at 13. Ahsoka was 14 and implied to be on the young side, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan and Kanan were 13 and definitely said to be really young, Dooku was 16 when he became Yoda's padawan, another agemate of Dooku's was 16 and not chosen and said he'd have to wait another year, etc. The service corps may still exist in some manner, but I've never seen anything about Jedi aging out in Lucasfilm canon.)
