You really shouldn't have shrugged your husband of convenience like that when he hinted to you about sex.
Yan! Drug Lord Husband x GN M! Spouse (Non-con/Dub-con/con?; asphyxiation)
He really had reached his limit; putting up with your distant self who was only all about framed perfection but never the household's perfection.
It was a marriage arranged by convenience, per se. As the next heir of a crook, you possessed wealth, intelligence, and relation to match his, the drug lord and one of the nation's biggest threats.
What he expected was not something as cold as this when he first saw you. A well-bred heir, growing up in opulence unlike him, a stray mutt who grew up in poverty. Unlike you who was sheltered by the crook of your parent, he was orphaned without a name to remember.
The two of you were different right from the inside to the outside. So it was only natural that he expected the marriage's life to be hollow from any connection.
And not miserable.
Kaspar was a man of avarice himself despite embodying the sin of a glutton, alas his little heart, his little inner child couldn't help but yearn for a sliver of your warmth.
To feel the warmth of your body colliding with his, not out of scheduled marital duty but out of urge and yearning. To chat with you about the weather on the dining table instead of relaying what your parent had asked you to relay to him.
And to hear you reassure his little heart just for once that he had long grown up as a fine man and not a stray mutt.
You had accidentally read his diary, so why, instead of a face flashing in pity, did you show him a face of indifference? You apologized curtly after you were caught reading it, and left without saying anything more. Not a touch or reassurance nor a glance.
That very night too he decided to test your conscience. A shake by your shoulder, a whisper above your ear. The two of you rarely sleep together, let alone perform marital duties.
But instead of giving him the illusion of pity from your conscience, your scrunched-up brows and elbow had snapped his consciousness into half.
He had always been the gentleman to you so naturally you were surprised when something akin to a beast strangled you as he had his way with you, rough and merciless.
Just like the stray mutt he was, forced to bear its canines and defraud for survival. You had always been the sheltered dog despite the life you lived in. You had seen a fair share of beasts in the underground world.
But what you had never expected was to have a beast have its way with you.
Black dots started to cloud your vision as you failed to catch even just a breath. The pressure around your neck had you coughed up in pain as your hole was stretched without any proper lube.
Yet oddly enough, you find this enjoyable.
Being the sheltered dog you were, you craved for something indescribable. Something you had never felt. And you knew what it was. Pain. Horror. Fear.
All three surged into you tonight, your eyes rolling behind out of suffocation and pleasure, your sex made it evident to him which earned a husky chuckle from his lip.
"You should have just told me you enjoyed being abused like this early on, love. That way, I wouldn't have to fuck you to boredom all this time."
Yes. You knew deep down what you were. The heir who gets off from pain, evident when the bullet was shot into your limb that one time.
The moment you read his diary was the moment you shuddered in expectation. A stray who had to fight for survival, surely he knew his way around digging his canines into his enemies instead of just ordering his men around right?
You wrapped your arms around him for the first time, and with a hoarse gasped voice, you pleaded, "Do me how exactly I like it, my love!"

hi! no immediate rush to answer this if you don’t have the spoons but i figured i’d ask because i haven’t been getting answers anywhere else.
starting in october 2021 (so almost a full year now) i got a horrific rash on my collarbones. it started as two small dots on either side and has since grown to connect all around my collarbone/throat/back like a necklace. for a very long time it was so unbearable that i couldn’t sleep and i could barely stand to wear clothes. i cut all of my hair off because i couldn’t have it touching, i changed all my bedding/detergents/body soaps/shampoos and stopped wearing the shirts that seemed to irritate it the most. i tried cutting out things like dairy and gluten and that did nothing to change it. my SIL had to get rid of her kittens because they were making the rash worse.
the only thing that helped get rid of it at all in the beginning was taking prednisone but i don’t react well to it. i take claritin every day and that helps somewhat (benadryl works better but my reactions to that are terrible). i’ve had all the blood work possible done (no skin scratch tests and i do experience dermatographia) and they still can’t tell me what i’m allergic to and every doctor seems to have washed their hands of me.
it’s currently not flaring up (got another whole new bedding set and i sleep topless and with an AC blasting because it flares up when i get hot) but i know it’s going to come back and i’m just. tired.
thank you so much for all the help you give everybody!
Does it look something like this?
Tumblr media
(This is a 6 year old photo of me when my MCAS was starting to manifest in new ways. I used to think it was sunburn until it manifested in mid-winter. Mines is mostly gone right now, but if I get exposed to mold it comes back)
I obviously cannot tell you what is wrong, but if you haven’t looked into Mast Cell Activation Syndrome or another condition known as mastocytosis, I would suggest doing so as what you’re describing and the drugs that you respond to are in line with my experiences with MCAS.
Also, have you tried dye-free Benadryl? I can’t take the pink pill version, but I’m good with dye-free. Same with prednisone, I need the white pills, not the pink. Although I do still experience mania/psychosis at higher and prolonged doses of prednisone, unfortunately.
Obviously there are other things it could be, but the ring rash is not uncommon with MCAS and it’s sort of my wheelhouse of experience.
The Mast Cell Disease society may have some useful info for you:

Connecting the Dots: The Jailbird Backstory, and Pre/Early-SMP c!Quackity Analysis and Theories
Previously on the c!Quackity canon backstory analysis, we laid the conclusion that he technically has two canon backstories, which may or may not be contradictory or overlapping, depending on interpretation. [AO3] [Tumblr]
Last time, I went into the MCM backstory more, since it had a greater impact on the lore and is generally considered "hard canon" [Video summary here]. This time, however, I'll be looking specifically into the 'Jailbird' backstory, as I call it, AKA the "juvenile detention" one, which is more "soft canon" but has a surprisingly large amount of detail to it—even more than I initially thought when I made my previous post, since I started to dig through more early c!Q VODs to get more information on that initial backstory.
This post primarily serves as a summary for the information I found regarding the 'Jailbird' backstory, VOD by VOD.
So, everyone, sit back and relax, because I already did the hard work for you over the course of months. Oh, and this post refers to the characters, not content creators (unless specified otherwise).
CW: Child neglect, imprisonment, mental health/PTSD, self-neglect, substance abuse (including by a minor).
[Click here to read this analysis/theory post on AO3]
Background
Quackity claims to have been stuck in juvenile detention, allegedly called "SMP Juvie" [B, 10:50], for a contradictory amount of time: 10 years [A, 1:35:20], 41 years [A, 1:36:40], or 43 years [A, 1:46:25], all claims in the same livestream.
However, the "41 years" one was claimed just after Tubbo said he lost ~41 levels of XP during Tommy's 'test-mugging' for the Cartel about 6 minutes previously, so I don't know if that claim is to be taken seriously or not; besides, tapping into the Duck theory, 41-43 'duck years' is about 10 'human years' anyway, so we're sticking with the "10 years" claim for this analysis.
Since we know c!Quackity is similar in age to cc!Quackity through various livestreams in Season 1, it's safe to assume that he's ~19 as of Season 1, and ~9 when he got sentenced.
The reasons behind his imprisonment have never been explicitly stated. When asking Dream to whitelist Q onto the SMP, Tommy claims this reason was because Q got into "fun juvie" for "having too much fun" [C, 0:43], but it's not confirmed whether this is a cover story for a more serious crime, a metaphorically true reason, or a complete lie in that Tommy doesn't know the 'crime' either. Some of the theories for how Q ended up there have varied, but are not confirmed in any way to be canon:
Drug-related offenses: Posited by @lasnevadaslaborunion. In one livestream, Q claimed to have "got off that shit years ago" in response to Karl giving him 'heroin' without him knowing. [E, 4:25] This "years ago" is non-specific, so it might go back a decade… and fair enough, in some countries, possession of hard drugs like heroin can land some pretty hefty prison sentences. Whatever way it goes, it still implies exposure to hard drugs as a child… yikes. (Note: This is not my personal theory on how the heroin thing happened. See below for that.)
Misadventures in other video games (e.g. Roblox, Club Penguin Island, etc.): This one is a little meta, but before his MC-related content, including the DSMP, cc!Quackity was quite infamous for raiding various video games, to the point he's part of the Trope Pantheon as an ambiguous-ranking 'deity' of the Internet Counterattack trope (yes, really). It's possible that his character counterpart did something similar at a young age… and ended up behind bars. It probably helps justify and give context to the 'imprisoned for "having too much fun"' excuse Tommy gave, as stated above. And Toontown-affiliated backstories would fit right into this category, regardless of what he did — the game's villains are fun-haters, after all.
A Disclaimer on Realism
Now, here's a little question before we dive deeper: can 9-year-olds be sentenced to juvenile detention in the first place?
The answer depends on where you live. Some countries have a minimum age for children being prosecuted. The US apparently does not, but that's an argument for another day, and one that is unrelated to Minecraft roleplay. My point here is that the aforementioned minimum age is 14 or older in several countries, and even in the US, most convicted juvenile offenders tend to be in their older teenage years. [Source]
Also, according to many articles I had to look up for this post, many juvenile offenders aren't even sent to jail, they usually have other, less severe sentences, like probation or home confinement or fostering, so the odds of a 9-year-old child ending up in juvie is actually pretty unlikely, realistically speaking, if legal at all.
…And for a sentence of 10 years or more? As stated above, the reason little!Q ended up there at all was never mentioned.
However, since that did happen in soft DSMP canon, I'd have to say… the poor lad would have basically spent most of his childhood incarcerated. I wonder if he still remembers anything about his life before that point canonically.
Environment and Trauma
Even though nothing is actually shown, there's a surprisingly large amount of descriptions of the environment in the juvenile detention centre, for lack of a better term, in the early livestreams.
When Q first joined the SMP, his first remark was on the fresh air, probably because Spawn is still a distance away from the warzone, and that he felt "alive again". [C, 3:13]
There's also this line: "I didn't have the smile in juvie", likely referring to his now-iconic :] smile. [C, 4:00] Oh, and canonically confirmed PTSD. [D, 16:40]
The interior of the prison itself is unstated, but is implied to be made of grey stone-adjacent blocks, if Q's reaction to setting his spawn in the Courthouse in the Sky is any indication. [D, 22:10] So… I'm speculating its interior either looks like the Cops and Robbers map or… this map cc!Q did in 2019 (minus the escaping), or something like that.
For whatever reason, Q seemed to have claustrophobia, and may or may not have been triggered into a panic attack and a mental breakdown and a half. [C, 11:30]
He claimed to have a lot of allergic reactions, but to what exactly, it was never mentioned. [C, 15:15]
Q might have also tried to escape on at least one occasion. At one point, he offers to show Tommy the "blueprints" for his Cartel plan [A, 1:16:40], but doesn't want others to know about them because they were "a secret where [he comes] from". And then there's this line: "If someone leaks a blueprint… things– all I'm gonna say is things don't go well for those who leak the blueprints, Tommy." Tommy did actually leak the 'blueprint' for a few seconds [A, 1:17:53], but in the context of juvenile detention, as we'll discuss in more detail later on… I'd suppose things wouldn't go well for people who leak prison blueprints, if you choose to interpret the line this way. In the same livestream, he might have tried to break out with a screwdriver, but clearly that didn't work. [A, 1:38:30]
Q recalls apparently breaking his legs like "the second night of juvie" [C, 23:04], most likely from falling, but honestly most of us are concerned how this even happened, and which incompetent nincompoop was running the place to allow children to get injured so easily. So… either the structure of the detention centre violates health and safety regulations, or the 'guards' (for lack of a better word) are shit at their jobs, or both.
In the middle of planning out their heist and preparing to 'test-mug' Tubbo, Q claimed to have been clean from 'drugs' for "30 minutes" at one point. [A, 1:25:40] If this is true, this implies somehow he managed to have access to whatever 'drugs' he was using at that point. This also possibly lines up with the 'heroin' incident mentioned above… which I theorize would be correlated to some other information I found — heroin is "used in the palliative management of bone fractures and other trauma, especially in children" [Wikipedia]. In layman's terms, it basically means heroin is sometimes used as pain relief. I think you might be able to connect the dots from here, but that's just my theory.
A final note in regards to Q in the early days — he appears to have a tendency of neglecting his personal health, which goes from him joining the DSMP all the way into the Manburg era. He walks around on low health and hunger fairly often, usually as a result of taking damage and never healing up, and even when he doesn't have food on him, he doesn't ask others to give him some so he can regen. [e.g. D, 28:50] Heck, this is how Niki got arrested just after Schlatt's election — she 'hit' Q to snap him out of a breakdown and a half and ended up killing him (non-canonically) because he was on half a heart and insufficient hunger to regen at the time. This tendency is recurring to the point one might even call it a bad habit. I don't know if his past has anything to do with this, but one might argue it is a manifestation of "reckless or self-destructive behavior" under the symptoms of PTSD.
Shared Past with TommyInnit?
Q and Tommy seemed to at least know each other and be friends even before Q's official first appearance, but how exactly is unstated.
In Q's first appearances, Tommy has claimed to only know of him as the best in the Cartel business and teamed up with him, but considering their already amicable relationship even in their 'first' canon conversation, as well as the fact that Tommy gets RL Given Name Privileges with Q [A, 1:32:15], this seems unlikely.
The two had a 'conversation' about having "met in high school". Since it was more likely than not a cover story for the Cartel, its legitimacy is doubted. [A, 1:30:00]
Tommy was apparently the one to get him out of juvenile detention, somehow. [C, 16:05]
Relationship with MCM Backstory
As cited in the previous analysis post, I raised some suspicions that the M!necraft Mondays backstory may have been retconned from the 'Jailbird' backstory as the timelines for the two don't appear to line up. However, I would like to go back and disprove this suspicion, as upon closer examination, the VODs themselves suggest that the two backstories coexist.
On his first livestream on the DSMP, Quackity mentions having met Technoblade before during MCM and claimed that Techno was scared of him (Jack didn't believe that) [D, 48:20].
Knowing what actually happened in MCM (links above), it's suggested that Q was highkey projecting his feelings in the moment, which would line up with his later behaviour.
Canonicity
Also in the previous analysis post, I also raised suspicions that the 'Jailbird' backstory is no longer considered canonical as a result of retcons. However, once again, I would go back and correct that this backstory is soft canon: the 'Jailbird' backstory is closely associated with the concept of the Cartel. The Phantom Membrane Cartel (PMC) was established during Q's second voice-only appearance on the server [B, 7:40], but the plans of the Cartel idea were first laid out the day prior, i.e. during Q's first voice-only appearance, and the PMC was simply a continuation of the initial Cartel plan [B, 3:35]. The PMC itself was later canonized officially as hard canon in Season 3 [F, 44:05]. As a result, the canonicity of the 'Jailbird' backstory is implied to be confirmed by association.
There are also possible hints towards the canonicity of this backstory in the first Las Nevadas stream. While passing by the minimum/moderate security holding cells on the way to visit Dream, Q makes a joke with Sam, asking if he might ever be put in one of the cells, and then saying "you know how I am" when Sam wasn't amused. [G, 1:00:50] Of course, this can just as easily be referring to Q's jokester nature, but one would wonder.
Oh, and as a bonus, Tiger the cat is implied to be canon too via association, if you interpret it that way. [B, 5:45]

The Oil Has Run Thin
Tumblr media
Day 7 of Narcoctober- Make something centered around non-death dark topics (we have a specific death day already). Morally or emotionally dark topics/themes.
Characters: Walt Breslin x OC (Soraya Turner); platonic but could be more 👀
CW: drugs/intoxication/hallucinations
WC: 884
A/N: Something smol for the Walt girlies, y'know?
Was it a knock that had woken her? Or was it the screaming? So loud. Incessant shrieking. Soraya opens her eyes and they bounce around the room, looking for the source of those horrible shrieks.
When her vision focuses, she realizes that she’s in a hospital room. Pain ricochets throughout her head as she thrashes around. Her arms and legs are sore and she finds that she’s restrained when she looks down at herself. There are scratch marks on her hands and clots of dried blood are lodged beneath her fingernails.
There’s no one else in the room with her at the moment, but a flash of movement at the door garners her attention. It’s her partner, Walt. They’ve been partners ever since they were given their assignment in Mexico together. A kinship had arisen between the two of them, and it feels sudden how they’ve gone from complete strangers to people who’d take bullets for each other.
Her mind is rattling around with so many thoughts, so many questions. She’s able to see through the fog for a second and see the crushed look on Walt’s face. Why did he look so broken?
It hurts her. Her heart feels cracked because she’s never seen him so shattered before. They’ve seen a lot of each other. Frustration. Anger. And yes, even sadness. But this is utter misery painted on her partner’s face right now and she can even see the fear that he lets through. Usually, she can tell when he’s scared because he has intricate little tells like a twitching of his fingers or the inability to sit down. But that’s because he hides it and hides it well. To anyone on the outside looking in, he seems impatient and maybe even pissed off, but Soraya’s always been able to differentiate when he’s scared because of how much effort he puts into making it not look like so.
But he’s terrified right now as he looks at her and she doesn’t know why.
She doesn’t know a lot of things. She’s not sure she even knows why she’s in the hospital, much less restrained.
Her whole body’s in pain and she can barely focus, but that’s not giving her any answers right now.
Walt, himself, was still trying to come to terms with what happened. He’d been on coms the entire time during the undercover sting. The work the two of you had put in was mostly paper trails and listening to tapes, but you two were also dedicated to chasing down any and every lead possible. When you get the tip on a new low level runner within the Guadalajara cartel, you take the opportunity to create a sting and get him on charges. The hope was to get him a lighter sentence in exchange for more intel that would help them catch and fry the bigger fish.
It all happened so fast. Too fast for Walt to even realize what was happening. He’s not even sure what happens in the short time it takes for him to realize that he’s lost comms with her. As he waits for news on his partner, he reflects and tries to think back to how he missed it. How her cover was blown. When exactly it was blown. What had happened to her in the time between when her comms went out and when he was picking her up bridal style and rushing for an ambulance.
“The cocaine was laced,” the doctor explains, “We’ve got to run more tests to get a better idea of what exactly is causing her symptoms. Until then, she needs to be in restraints. For her own safety.”
In the ambulance, Soraya had started clawing at her arms, frantically screaming that there was a chip inside and that the mad men were out to get her.”
Her eyes were like pinballs in an arcade game, dotting everywhere with an unfocused gaze. She wasn’t making any sense as Walt held her arms and it was like she wasn’t even aware of her surroundings.
The doctor had gone to go check on Soraya and let Walt know whether he could see her or not. As he waited, he rubbed his forehead continually before wringing his hands and pacing the floors. He was infuriated. At their perp, who was now in the wind. At himself, even more so. His plans were always failure after failure and now they had gotten someone he cared about in a dire situation.
When the doctor gives him the go ahead, Walt knocks on her door, although he’s sure that she probably doesn’t hear it. He walks in and is stuck to his feet at the sight of her.
He did this.
The restraints.
The deep scratches on your arm.
The crazed and scared look on your face.
Your eyes meet him and for a second, Walt thinks she recognizes him.
But then, she’s back to wracking her body and scanning the room, looking for something, even as Walt rushes over, trying to calm her.
Soraya looks at him again, fear and inquiry coloring her features, “What is that?! Who is that screaming?!”
Walt’s breath catches in his throat as he continues stroking her arm in what he hopes is comforting.
“It’s you, Soraya.”
A/N: Def plan on writing more for them at some point, kinduva obsessed with them idk Click here if you wanna be added to my taglist. Taglist: @asirensrage @ashlingnarcos @narcosfandomdiscord @drabbles-mc

@harringtontm
At the age of three, she was as precious as a little girl could be. His sweet baby Joany. The thought of being a father had only crossed Eddie's mind twice in his entire life. The first time was during his first marriage to Sabrina, a Sid and Nancy kind of love; that's what they had. All of it built off the back of childhood trauma, and his Upside Down padded on top of it like the cake cherry. They spent two years in a drink and drug-filled maelstrom, partying, more drinking and drugs, sex, arguing, and sex again. Sabrina fed into his insecurities and fears; she also thumped him a few times. But he still convinced himself that it was all part of love. So, naturally, when Sabrina suggested they have a baby after their sham of a wedding, it made sense. What else should two people who were newly married do? If he'd been himself, sober Eddie. He wouldn't have considered it. Unfortunately, a few tests made it clear his swimmers weren't exactly Hawkins High swim team material, and Sabrina made sure he knew it was all his fault. With Madison, his second and current marriage, although that felt slippery since they spent so much time apart. Everything had been an accident. Eddie had been open about his infertility, and she took it in stride with a stunning smile that made him weak at the knees, made him love her more. Then she fell pregnant after four years of not trying, and he'd been stunned to silence. His nerves were shredded for nine entire months, only quelled by late-night calls to Robin or Steve or drinking sessions with the two where he let all his fears spill out. But it was worth it for the moment when Eddie first saw her head of dark curls, with eyes to match, and her tiny fingers that grasped at his ringed ones. He fell in love again; this time, it would stick forever.
Everyone loved Joan. Of course, they did. They doted and cooed over her; Eddie would be pissed if they didn't because she was his entire world, even more so than his global rock star status. Joany deserved every bit of love and affection from her father's overgrown found family of misfits and weirdos. But he felt that no one loved Joany more than her uncle Stevie. And as Eddie watched the two playing together on Californian beach sand, he stood by that notion stronger than ever before. Steve was a natural when it came to kids, though Steve said the same about him whenever Eddie brought it up. He smiled at the scene, scooting over the warm sand to the spot where Steve and Joan were building a sandcastle together. "Is King Steve getting the peasants to build a castle for him? The scandal. This is child labour, Steve." The tease evident in his tone. It often came out when around, always had. It was just how they communicated, with affectionate ribbing. "You're gonna have to protest about this, kiddo. Fight the power for your people." Joan looked up at him from behind a fringe of messy curls. It should probably get a cut soon. She crinkled her button nose, looking between her uncle and father for a grain of understanding; sometimes, dad's words didn't make sense to her. With a shake of her curly-haired head, Joan returned to her task and said in her sweetest voice. "This castle is for me. Not uncy Steve." Laughter poured from Eddie's lips, and he ruffled her darling little head. "Atta girl. You don't need a man to make your castle."
He left his daughter to build her empire in a lavender polka-dot swimsuit, which was very non-conformist of her if he said so himself. Eddie turned his attention to Steve just in time to see that sad smile on his friend's face. Steve's eyes were covered by some snazzy-looking shades, but he could picture the expression in them, not entirely happy, not quite sorrowful, beautiful in a way that was simply Steve Harrington. He knew the other man wanted a kid of his own bad and had been denied that by an ex-wife who hadn't wanted any. Which was fair game to her but not cool to do to someone who dreamed of being a dad. Eddie leaned toward Steve until they were bare shoulder to shoulder. "You got plenty of time," was all he said before handing Steve a beer from the cooler. They watched Joan for a while in comfortable silence. She appointed Steve as head decorator during that time, and dear old dad got named the court entertainer, which he embraced by regaling his daughter with a tale or two about the past where he and Steve had fought monsters together. Joan had that look on her face that said she wasn't sure whether to believe him, but she made herself a throne in her uncle's lap and listened to the stories anyway with a carton of apple juice from the cooler. She kicked her feet about every so often, always unable to keep completely still, just like her old man, and stuck her carton up in Steve's face when done with it, pouting at him for more in a bold attack on the man's soft heart.
Clever, Eddie thought. But kinda rude.
While Eddie hated to scold her. There were moments when it couldn't be avoided; this was one of them. He didn't want a daughter that made demands of other people. But before he could find that voice buried deep within him, of course, Steve had already fetched Joan another juice happily and foolishly said out loud how he'd spoil her rotten if he got the chance. Ah, the prey falls for the predator's trap. His clever girlie was gonna remember that when her uncle least expected it and very likely when her father wasn't around to say otherwise. They'd be talking about that later.
Eddie let the moment go with a sigh, though he shook his head at Steve while smiling. "You've only gotten softer with age, man. Your own kids are gonna have you wrapped around their little fingers at conception." As if Joan didn't have Eddie partially wrapped around hers, and he would deny it if anyone said otherwise, or maybe not. He shifted onto his stomach atop Joan's matching polka-dot towel in front of his daughter and her beloved uncle, puckering his lips for a kiss. But instead of that, Eddie got a chewed straw accompanied by an empty juice carton and girly giggling. A look of feigned distraught came over him as a hand went to his chest before he pretended to die of heartbreak right there on the California sand.
Steve was the first to jump into action. Announcing that the only way to save dad was to chuck a bucket of seawater over him, and the two partners in crime ran off towards the ocean, with a bucket in tow, Joan still giggling maniacally ( she really was too much like him ). Bastard, Eddie thought to himself amusedly. But he was willing to let the scenario play out for both Steve and Joan's benefit. It made her happy to be a miniature devil, and he wasn't about to curb that sort of behaviour. As for Steve, messing around with Joan had seemingly brought him out of his sadness cocoon from earlier. He wanted to keep that momentum going and ensure their beach day ended on a high note.
One dark eye flickered open to watch two souls very dear to his heart splash about in the water. Steve lifted Joan into his strong arms and then dunked her in a tiny wave as it came to shore. She squealed, then wriggled out of his arms to splash him back while bossily pushing him further into the water so he'd be easier to take down. Yep, way too clever. Eddie kept watching them with a smile on his lips until Steve had finally been defeated by Queen Joan of The Sandcastle with a devastating soaking; no doubt Steve grieved for his hair. And Joan, she came running back to her dad, escaping her devious crime with half a bucket of water ready for him. He was still smiling when he closed his eyes ready for the inevitable.

Navigating the Essentials: Understanding DOT Drug Testing and Compliance
Tumblr media
In the realm of workplace safety and regulatory compliance, DOT drug testing stands as a crucial component for certain industries. The Department of Transportation (DOT) has implemented stringent guidelines to ensure that employees in safety-sensitive positions maintain a drug-free workplace. This article aims to shed light on the key aspects of DOT drug testing, its significance, and the steps employers and employees need to take to remain in compliance.
Understanding DOT Drug Testing DOT drug testing is a comprehensive program designed to detect and deter drug use among employees in safety-sensitive positions. These positions include roles within the transportation industry, such as commercial truck drivers, bus drivers, pilots, and railway workers. The primary objective of DOT drug testing is to enhance public safety by ensuring that individuals responsible for transportation-related activities are not under the influence of drugs that could impair their performance.
DOT Mandates and Regulations To uphold a uniform standard across different modes of transportation, the DOT has established specific regulations outlining the requirements for drug testing. Employers subject to DOT regulations are obligated to implement a comprehensive drug testing program that adheres to these guidelines. The testing process typically involves pre-employment testing, random testing, post-accident testing, reasonable suspicion testing, and return-to-duty testing.
Substances Covered by DOT Drug Testing DOT drug testing screens for a panel of substances that includes marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, opioids, and phencyclidine (PCP). The testing methods employed are designed to detect recent drug use, ensuring that individuals are not impaired while performing safety-sensitive tasks.
Consequences of Non-Compliance Non-compliance with DOT drug testing regulations can have severe consequences for both employers and employees. Employers failing to implement an effective drug testing program may face fines, penalties, and even suspension of their operating authority. Employees who test positive may be subject to immediate removal from safety-sensitive duties and are required to undergo a substance abuse assessment and rehabilitation before returning to work.
Navigating the DOT Drug Testing Process For employers and employees subject to DOT regulations, understanding and navigating the drug testing process is essential. This involves staying informed about the latest updates to DOT regulations, implementing a robust drug testing program, educating employees about the consequences of drug use, and ensuring a fair and consistent approach to testing.

Starting a Trucking Business: Costs and Essentials
Tumblr media
The trucking industry plays a vital role in the American economy, accounting for 6% of all full-time jobs in the country. In 2017, the American trucking industry generated revenue that surpassed that of 150 countries. If you're considering embarking on this entrepreneurial journey, here's a breakdown of the costs involved in starting a trucking business in the USA, with a focus on the ELD mandate, Tail light, and ELD mandate dashcam.
Registration
Cost: Up to $1,590 (one-time) The first step in establishing a trucking business is to incorporate a company and obtain the necessary permits to legally transport goods within the country. Registration starts at the state level, and it's crucial to check name availability with the Department of State. Once the name is approved, you can officially register your company. TAX ID Number
Cost: $79 (one-time) A TAX ID number is essential for opening a business bank account and fulfilling tax obligations. It's essentially your company's registration at the federal level, and even non-U.S. residents can apply for it online. MC Number and DOT Number
Cost: Variable After completing registrations and acquiring permits, the next step is to purchase trucks and trailers. Whether you opt for new or used vehicles, costs can vary widely. New trucks can start at around $113,000, while used ones are more affordable. However, when buying used trucks, it's advisable to choose those less than five years old with fewer than 600,000 miles. Heavy Vehicle Use Tax
Cost: $100 - $550 (per year) Trucks weighing over 55,000 pounds are subject to this tax, and trucking companies must file an annual Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax Return and pay the applicable tax for their fleet. Insurance
Cost: $9,000 - $12,000 (per year) Insurance is a crucial expense and should cover three key areas: Physical damage: Coverage matching the truck's value. Cargo: Recommended coverage of $10,000 or more, depending on the cargo's value. Liability: Covers damage to third parties. Combined insurance for these aspects typically costs between $9,000 and $12,000 per truck per year. IRP Plates Registration and IFTA
Cost: $1,500 - $2,000 (per year) IRP plates are required for interstate operation, listing all 48 states in the continental U.S. IFTA decals are included, renewed yearly as long as fuel taxes are paid. ELD, Tail Light, and Dash Cams Cost: Around $950 (per year) These technological requirements are essential for a trucking business. The ELD (Electronic Logging Device) is mandatory for compliance with regulations, aiding in tracking driver hours and identifying violations. Tail Light provides tracking for your trailers, and dash cams help maintain a video record for potential insurance cost reductions. ELDs cost around $350 per year, Tail Light has an annual cost of $250, and Dash Cams add another $350 per year. Hiring Drivers
Cost: Average of $59,925 Hiring experienced drivers is vital for the success and growth of your trucking business. A CDL-licensed driver with the necessary technical knowledge is a valuable asset, earning an average annual salary of $59,925. However, payments vary based on factors like trip distance, frequency, and haul type. Thoroughly check the driver's background, including Compliance Safety Accountability records and conduct random drug tests as required by law. Running the Business Running a trucking company involves both fixed and variable expenses. Fixed expenses, such as insurance and permits, have been covered. Variable costs can fluctuate based on your business's output and operations. Some examples include:
Fuel: Costs vary depending on mileage and fuel efficiency. Factoring Fees: Around 3% commission for getting paid more quickly. Tolls: Variable costs based on travel routes. Scales: Used to bypass weigh stations. Permits: Additional permits for specific states. Dispatch Fees: Flat rates per load. Hotels: Accommodation for drivers on long hauls. Maintenance and Repairs: Keep the vehicle in good condition, with an average annual cost of around $16,000. Summary In summary, the cost of starting an owner-operator trucking company in the United States typically ranges between $100,000 to $200,000. For larger fleets with additional drivers, expenses increase proportionally at an average of $59,925 per driver. Keep in mind that the nature of your business, location, distance, and operational area can significantly impact these costs. To mitigate unexpected expenses, maintaining a financial reserve is essential. Starting and running a trucking business is a significant endeavor, and careful planning and financial management are key to success. Keep on trucking!

The Importance of Driver Qualification Files for DOT Compliance
I. Introduction
As per the Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, companies that operate commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) must comply with various safety requirements to ensure the safety of their drivers, other motorists on the road, and the general public. One of the critical requirements for DOT compliance is the maintenance of driver qualification files. In this blog, we will discuss the importance of driver qualification files, the information required in these files, best practices for maintaining them, the consequences of non-compliance, and how Purcell Compliance can help.
II. What Are Driver Qualification Files?
Driver qualification files are a set of documents maintained by companies to ensure that their drivers meet the necessary qualifications and are safe to operate CMVs. These files are necessary for DOT compliance and must be maintained for each driver.
The driver qualification files contain information about the driver's application and employment history, driving record, drug and alcohol testing results, driver violation history, medical certification information, and safety performance history.
III. Importance of Driver Qualification Files
The driver qualification files are crucial for ensuring the safety of drivers and the general public on the road. By maintaining proper driver qualification files, companies can ensure that their drivers meet the necessary qualifications to operate CMVs and are aware of the safety regulations they must follow. Additionally, having up-to-date driver qualification files can help companies avoid fines and penalties for non-compliance.
IV. Required Information in Driver Qualification Files
As per DOT regulations, driver qualification files must include specific information, including the driver's application and employment history, driving record information, drug and alcohol testing results, driver violation history, medical certification information, and safety performance history. This information helps companies ensure that their drivers are qualified and fit to operate CMVs safely.
V. Best Practices for Maintaining Driver Qualification Files
To maintain proper driver qualification files, companies should follow best practices, including keeping files up-to-date and organized, regularly reviewing files for accuracy and completeness, and providing proper training for employees responsible for maintaining the files. Additionally, companies must ensure that all required information is included in the driver qualification files.
VI. Consequences of Non-Compliance
Non-compliance with driver qualification file requirements can lead to fines and penalties for companies. These fines can range from a few thousand to millions of dollars, depending on the severity of the violation. Additionally, non-compliance can impact the safety of drivers on the road, leading to accidents and injuries.
VII. How Purcell Compliance Can Help
Purcell Compliance is a leading provider of DOT compliance services that can assist companies in maintaining driver qualification files and complying with DOT regulations. Purcell Compliance offers a comprehensive range of services, including driver qualification file management, drug and alcohol testing programs, safety consulting, and more. Working with Purcell Compliance can help companies avoid fines and penalties for non-compliance and ensure that their drivers are safe and qualified to operate CMVs.
VIII. Conclusion
Maintaining proper driver qualification files is critical for DOT compliance and ensuring the safety of drivers and other motorists on the road. By following best practices for maintaining driver qualification files and working with a reputable DOT compliance service provider like Purcell Compliance, companies can avoid fines and penalties for non-compliance and ensure the safety of their drivers and the general public.
