Thinking about that scene in TBOSAS when Snow watched that girl almost die over a little white lie.
Snow and his “honesty” makes more sense in the hunger games when we meet Dr Gual.

Something I keep thinking about from TBOSBAS is just how consistently Dr. Gual’s worldview is proven to be wrong. For all her and Snow’s talk of “this is who people are when released from control,” all three of the games we see in the series prove that wrong time and time again.
Lamina mercy kills Marcus to save him from further pain and suffering. Reaper spends his whole time in the arena — to his dying breaths — honoring the dead around him. Katniss sings to Rue as she dies and openly, publicly mourns her death. Thresh saves Katniss’s life, not for his own benefit, because arguably she is one of his biggest threats still in the arena at that point, but out of love for Rue. Mags volunteers for Annie. The Morphlings sacrifice themselves for Peeta and Katniss.
That is Gual’s “humanity unmasked.” Even when their own lives are at stake, even when they are pitted against each other in a literal fight to the death, these children’s love and compassion and humanity still finds ways to come through. Because Lucy Gray is right, there is an inherent goodness in us all.

The gong sounded at that moment, and the tributes scattered. Most fled to the gates that led to the tunnels, several of which had been blown open by the latest bombing. Coriolanus could see Lucy Gray run to the underground tunnel he had told her about.
‘Run!’ he thinks, and he could see Coral, the girl from District Four with her trident already killing tributes. The fights were a blur. He sees Lucy Gray noticing Jessup, the District twelve boy yet to pick up any weapons. The stupid songbird runs towards him instead of the tunnels and Coriolanus nearly stands up, wanting to yell at her for her actions. It was a few close calls, but she hadn't died.
She takes Jessup and flees under the tunnels. She tries to kick the door open, but the metal door refuses to budge. She looks around, afraid that other tributes would catch up. Meanwhile, Flickerman comments as other tributes rush in, “Hy and Sol on the other side pincering on Lucy Gray.”
There was a small space below the door, thankfully Coriolanus watched as Lucy Gray and Jessup managed to crawl in. Another tribute dies but is brutally murdered by Coral's pack. Meanwhile Jessup and Lucy Gray are safe in the room they were in.
Coriolanus relaxes in his seat, relieved for now. Six tributes were gone within minutes. Lucky Flickerman comments, “To the children watching, that was violent, horrific, and disgusting.” Coriolanus wants to scoff at the blatant hypocrisy, the games existed because the Capitol enforced it. It was violent because of the Capitol. It was disgusting but it wasn't on the districts.
Coriolanus catches himself, his chain of thoughts rebelling against his beliefs. He swallows and looks at you. Your free hand clutching your stomach, your face turning pale in sickness. Coriolanus finds himself overwrought, he leans in to whisper, “Are you alright?”
You let out a small groan and shook your head, “I started bleeding this morning. The painkillers aren't kicking in and the cramps are getting worse.” It takes Coryo an embarrassing amount of time to understand what you meant. You're on your period. Oh. Your earlier behavior made a bit more sense now, you were in pain and you were acting out.
He knew the basics of the menstrual cycle thanks to the Academy teaching Sex Ed. And Tigris never shied away from it either, she made sure Coriolanus knew that period was an extremely normal thing a woman (or anyone with a uterus) has to go through each month. He lets his eyes soften, and he squeezes your hand in a comforting manner.
“Is there anything I can do to help?” He asked.
You shake your head in response, but you look even sicker than before. Coriolanus felt displeased seeing you like this, you should have been resting instead the damn games kept you here. It also explained why you had to skip your interview too. You were too sick.
He looks at the screens. Nothing interesting was happening now. It was so boring that Lucky Flickerman had switched to his former job of being a weatherman. Coriolanus decided to go to the cafeteria, hoping to find something you could snack on. That should help a tiny bit.
“I will be back,” he announced, getting up from his seat and heading to the cafeteria. He sees the assortment of food, he heads straight for the sandwiches first. He takes a plate and gets four sandwiches. Two for each of you. Then he searches for something sweet, thankfully, due to the joyous occasion of the games. The cafeteria made different sorts of desserts including chocolate. Coriolanus made sure to pile them up on the plate, leaving nothing behind. He wasn't sure what you liked after all. He was hoping to find out after this.
Then he looks at one of the staff, and he's not sure if he should ask or not. But then he remembered how you were clutching your stomach. With a sigh, he calls someone out, a fellow worker who looks back and politely smiles at Coriolanus.
“Is there any possible way to be given hot water in a bottle?”
“If it's to drink we can give you a glass-”
“No, it's for my girl. She has cramps.”
The female worker nods in understanding and tells him to wait. Coriolanus looked at the clock of the cafeteria, five minutes had passed. He wondered if anything was happening. He hoped that he hadn't missed anything and the songbird was safe. She was the key to everything after all.
“The show isn't over until the mockingjay sings,” he mutters in futile reassurance.
The worker comes in and hands him the hot water bottle. Coriolanus thanks her and rushes back to the auditorium. “You're back,” you said to him, your gaze on the plate of food he had bought. The only meal both of you had was the breakfast he cooked, and neither finished it. So it was understandable you were hungry.
“What did I miss?” He asked, handing you the hot water bottle. You stare at the metal bottle for a moment, baffled by the gesture. He could see your eyes to water and he felt dread creeping in his mind. Had he fucked up? He wanted to do something nice, that's all. He wanted to take care of you!
“Thank you,” you choked out, your voice thick with vulnerability. You press the hot water bottle to the area of your cramps and blink the tears away. “And sorry…” you muttered sheepishly, “Shouldn't have behaved that way.”
“It's fine,” he said, even if it wasn't. You shouldn't have been rude to him, so unnecessarily, but he will let go for now. He turned away to look at the screen to see Marcus was dead, lying on the ground.
Coriolanus turns to you for an explanation. You were ravishing your sandwich. “Mercy killing,” you had simply replied, “That girl killed him with an ax.”
“Well, that's what happens when you do stuff!” Lucky Flickerman comments, “You get attention.” He moved toward Pup Harington, the mentor of District Seven, Lamina. He explained the rules of communicuff. Pup Harington seizes the opportunity to send his tribute a bottle of water.
Coriolanus can see through the screen that the girl from District Seven reaches out to get the glass bottle. She has to duck to avoid crashing into the metal drone as the drone doesn't slow down and crashes into some debris behind her. Breaking the water bottle as well. Pup Harington curses and Coriolanus leans forward as he realizes the faulty mechanism of the drones. He can't send Lucy Gray water or food unless he wants to risk hurting her.
You tsk, “These were probably last-minute inventions to infuse your idea,” you bite the dark chocolate he bought you, “She could have done it next year.”
“She needs the games to shine this year to have games for the next year,” Coriolanus replied.
“What's the point if it's faulty?”
Coriolanus doesn't reply to that, he turns his focus to the screen. Staring at the death of Marcus from District Two and wondering what was his sin to receive this fate. All he did was run for his life.
✧ ▬▭▬ ▬▭▬ ✦✧✦ ▬▭▬ ▬▭▬ ✧
None were remaining in the auditorium except you and Coriolanus. You were asleep in your chair and Coryo was dozing off. Trying to keep his focus on the screen; in case anything happens. He was nearly asleep when Dr. Gauls' voice caused him to flinch and be awake.
“Mr. Snow,” she hisses like a snake.
“Dr. Gaul,” he said, his gaze turning into your sleeping form before he met Dr. Gauls' crazed eyes.
“Did something happen? Is it Lucy Gray?”
“Unless you can put a leash on your deluded classmate, she might as well be dead as far as you're concerned.”
Ugh, what the fuck did Sejanus do this time. Go into the arena? Then he realized the irony of his thoughts because he could see Sejanus Plinth through the medium of the screen that was broadcasting the games. He was in the arena.
Sejanus Plinth was in the arena.
The fuck is wrong with him! And why is Dr. Gaul visiting him over this, shouldn't she go to his daddy? He was tired, and his body hurt from sitting in the chair for long hours. Why was he stuck in this mess?
“Bread crumbs I believe,” Dr. Gaul said, turning towards the screen in which he could see Sejanus Plinth wasting precious bread, sprinkling it over the corpse. “Sustenance for a fallen comrade. District two superstition.”
Coriolanus frowned as he watched Sejanus wasting the bread in this manner. Stupid, stupid, stupid. It would have made more sense to him if he sneaked into where Lucy Gray was and handed her the food. Instead, he was throwing it on a rotting corpse. Only the districts are capable of this stupidity.
“I need someone to get him out right now,” she said.
Was she implying he would go to the arena for a ridiculous Plinth boy? He knew she was insane but this was borderline dumb. He doesn't want to risk his life!
“You should send the Peacekeepers,” he replied, as calmly as possible. He doesn't want to go. He's not suicidal enough for that.
Dr. Gaul goes on to explain why she can't send Peacekeepers and the district. She even mentions his classmate, Felix Ravinstill. Frankly, Coriolanus couldn't bring himself to care. Let the Plinth boy die, it's the consequence of his action.
Then Dr. Gaul adds, “Who knows? You get him out unscathed, I'll whisper your name in his father's ear. You still want the Plinth Prize, don't you?” Dr. Gaul knew that he didn't need to verbally agree, his expression was enough.
“I'll freeze the feed for an hour. I estimate that's all we have before the people notice.”
Then, Dr. Gaul leaves after informing Coryo that there's a van waiting for him to take him to the arena. He begins to stand up from his seat, getting ready for the journey to his doom.
“You know I am going with you, right?”
He startled, turning towards you, he firmly said to you, “No.” He watched you rub your eyes, you were sleepy that was clear. You must have woken up while that witch was talking. You shake your head in response.
“Don't care. I won't let that bitch make you go alone.”
He said your name in warning. You glare at him with your adorable, tired eyes. “I am going, Coriolanus Snow. Or else I'll tell everyone about what Sejanus is doing right now.”
He clenched his jaw. He grits out, “You could die.”
“So could you!”
He doesn't argue against that.
✧ ▬▭▬ ▬▭▬ ✦✧✦ ▬▭▬ ▬▭▬ ✧
A van takes you and him towards the arena. Losing precious minutes that you use to nap. Your head on his shoulder, while he ran his fingers along his scar, thinking of scenarios to bring all three of you alive. He would sacrifice Sejanus to save you. There's no doubt about that. But it's an action he can't afford right now.
So he thinks and thinks. His mind grew increasingly agitated. There's so much that can go wrong. One wrong move. A tribute waking up and deciding that they were easy kills. Caging them. Torturing you. Hurting you. He feels his breathing getting faster, his vision blurring as these thoughts begin to attack.
He gasps, his eyes closing. His chest rapidly moved up and down. He bit his lower lip until he tasted blood. He forced himself to breathe through his nose. There's no time for an attack right now. He doesn't have the luxury of that. He lets the weight of your head anchor him.
He's going to have a future. He's not going to let anything happen to you. And nothing will happen to him. Sejanus will come out of this alive as well.
Snow lands on top.
Snow lands on top.
Snow lands on top.
✧ ▬▭▬ ▬▭▬ ✦✧✦ ▬▭▬ ▬▭▬ ✧
He doesn't let you go in. He won't. When you tried to insist, he growled at you, “I won't be getting him back if I am trying to save you. I need to get him back. I can't make you a higher priority here.” You narrowed your eyes but Coriolanus knew you didn't have a fighting bone in your body. Your hands wove into his curls, and you make him reach your height.
“Then you better come back, Coriolanus Snow. Alive. Otherwise, you won't like the consequences.”
He wants to kiss you. God, he wants to kiss you. He decided that he would come back alive from this. He will. He will steal your breath and make you lose all of your senses. He will ruin you because life is too unpredictable, too short. He can't wait any longer.
He leaves you there. He walks inside the arena, the monotone voice announcing his entry with the usual ‘Enjoy the game’. It sends chills down his spine.
Snow sees Sejanus near the dead body of Marcus. Coriolanus tiptoes across the field. Sejanus laughs quietly when he sees Coriolanus. “Thought they would send my Ma,” he said, bitterly.
“You need to get out, Coryo,” he said and Coriolanus wanted to choke him. It was a nickname for family and friends. A nickname for you. And he had used it blatantly for the first time in a situation like this nonetheless.
“I would like to,” Snow whispered, annoyed. “I really would. But I promised to get you out.”
“Why?”
Because I need to win the Plinth Prize.
Because Dr. Gaul forced me.
“Because you're my friend,” he lied.
“I had to do this,” Sejanus begins to explain, looking desperate, begging to be understood. “I had to go where the cameras were.”
Unfortunately, Coriolanus wasn't the right person for it. “Do you think anyone is watching this? She cut off the feed. You die here and she'll say you died of the flu.”
“You need to decide,” Coriolanus huffed, “Are you gonna be a dead body in Gauls' war or do something actual good?”
“What good can I do out there?”
Was it too late to choke him?
“You're smart. You're rich. You care.” Coriolanus argued, “You can do it if you want. With your father's money.” Sejanus and Coryo flinch when they hear noises in the quiet arena. It was the sound of sharpening knives. “We’re dead if we don't leave right now,” Coryo hisses.
Coriolanus and Sejanus begin to leave. Coriolanus gripped his arm to practically drag him away from Marcus's body. Just then he hears footsteps, and he freezes. Then yells out at Sejanus to run as a tribute comes towards them with a long knife. Sejanus and Coriolanus reach the entrance of the arena, Coriolanus jumps over the entry point but Sejanus trips.
Sejanus holds his knee, groaning and Coriolanus runs back to get him. The tribute catches up and manages to slash Coriolanus back. Coriolanus lets out a blood-curdling scream from the pain, adrenaline rushing in. He has to go back. He has to go back to you; you're waiting for him.
Coriolanus’s fingers closed around a two-by-four, and he brought it up, catching Bobbin in the temple hard, sending him to his knees. And then he was on his feet, using the board like a club, bringing it down again and again without being sure where it made contact.
“We have to go!” Sejanus shouted.
He pants, throwing the board aside. The boy was dead and he wasn't sure what to make of the rush he felt as he saw another dead body in front of him. One of his own making. One that assured him of his survival and made him feel alive.
Sejanus brings back to reality as more tributes come in. He and Sejanus run out as the Peacekeepers open the barricade. He was brought to the ground by the weight of a body. He groans as he feels you on top of him. His back was bleeding onto the ground.
“You're alive,” you whisper, your eyes wide, and your lips swollen as if you constantly bit down, concerned about him. He wrapped his arms around you.
He lets out a heavy sigh, “Not if I bleed out, sweetheart.” You take your weight off him and help him stand up. Your eyes take in the blood with horror on your face. He whispered his arms around you, “It's fine. I am okay.”
In the distance, he can see Sejanus approach them and he's too pissed at him to have a proper conversation right now. It seemed you shared the same sentiments because the moment Sejanus came close, you pushed him. He doesn't fall but the impact makes him take a few steps back.
“You! It's because of you and your stupid beliefs that you do nothing but whine about that has led to this! It led him to bleed, Sejanus! How will you pay for his blood!? Fucking get out of here to your ma before I recreate the fucking wound on you!”
Sejanus flinches, looking betrayed. Sejanus looked at Snow but he had to look away because he simply was so proud of you. He was proud that you stood up, he was proud that you voiced what he wanted to say. He was also amused because thinking of your origins, you should have similar beliefs with Sejanus.
But you were simply concerned about Coriolanus, nothing else. It made Snow feel grateful he had you. You cared and you didn't try to hide it.
Sejanus doesn't try to say anything else. He walks with his head down to the car in which his ma and pa were waiting. Coriolanus pulls you back into his arms. “You didn't have to be so harsh,” he whispered, despite the fact he had enjoyed it so, so much.
“Who's the tribute that hurt you?”
“The boy is dead,” Coriolanus glees, unable to make himself look sane. He was bleeding out, adrenaline still pumping in his veins and with you in the equation. He felt drunk. “I enjoyed killing him.”
Coriolanus doesn't find out about your reaction to his confession as the toll of his blood loss takes over and his vision darkens. He goes unconscious.
✧ ▬▭▬ ▬▭▬ ✦✧✦ ▬▭▬ ▬▭▬ ✧
He groans as he wakes up from the darkness. A dull pain in his back. He recognized that an IV needle was stuck in his arm. His shirt was off, and the wound was stitched. He looked around to find out that he was in the lab, and Dr. Gaul was present, looking straight at him from a corner. He was proud of the fact he didn't flinch. He swallowed the nervousness, and greeted, “Dr. Gaul.”
“Mr. Snow,” She greets back, her voice booming, “Never thought I would see Crassus’ boy in the arena.”
He doesn't say anything, nor does he look at her. His gaze turns towards the glass containers filled with greenish liquid and some kind of horrid experimentation. Dr. Gaul drawls on, “Do you want to be like your father, Mr. Snow? Then it's essential to accept what human beings are and what it takes to control them.”
For tonight, Coriolanus Snow was a murderer. He had to accept that, he took a life for his survival, but he enjoyed it. He vaguely remembers confessing it to you. Horror fills him, he fucked up whatever he had with you for sure. Killing someone for your survival was one thing, even Sejanus can't hate him for it. But enjoying it? Feeling powerful as he felt someone's life draining out. It felt like drinking an elixir to Snow.
He can't imagine the disgust you felt when he admitted it. He can't- how will he fix this- he wipes away the tears staining his cheeks. He would beg and grovel, he would lie if you bring it up.
Dr. Gaul misinterpreted the misery on his face. “You did what you had to, Mr. Snow.” Then she begins to walk away, a clear dismissal.
“Yes,” he replied, cordially, “I am aware.”
✧ ▬▭▬ ▬▭▬ ✦✧✦ ▬▭▬ ▬▭▬ ✧
He enters the penthouse; he stops in his tracks as he sees you sitting down in the dining space. Waiting for him. It was extremely late at night by now and you were here, awake. Coriolanus was touched by how freely you showed your care through your actions. From the meal (orange chicken and rice) you gave in the car till now. You cared. So openly, so fiercely.
Unlike him.
His care was always hidden. “Dove,” he whispered, a nickname for you like Coryo was for him. Perhaps his care wouldn't be concealed under layers anymore. Your head snaps towards him, and with long strides, you meet his arm. You are careful about your hand placement, making sure not to hurt him or put pressure on his wound.
“Coryo,” you rasped out, “Coryo, Coryo, Coryo.” You bury your face in his chest and for a moment he thought you were sobbing but you were just taking deep breaths in. He holds you tighter, suffocating you, anchoring you like you did for him. He didn't care that it pulled his stitches.
“Hi,” he whispered sheepishly, he forgot about the arena, the murder, Sejanus, and Dr. Gaul. He remembers you and only you.
“Hi,” you giggle back, your eyes teary. “You're here,” you whispered, “Real or not?”
He let out a small laugh, “I am not a hallucination, dove.”
You shrugged in his arms, “Lack of sleep can cause them. For all I know this is a dream and you're still under the care of that bitch.”
“I am here,” he emphasized his words with a kiss on your hairline. He looks into your eyes and sees how real all of this is. He can make you his reality. He needs to seize it. He needs to control his fate.
He realized you hadn't questioned him about the blood on his hands. He was going to bring it up if you weren't. He would let his confession remain buried if that's what you wanted. No need to unleash his demons onto you.
He guides you to his bedroom, but he gently presses you to the door. He has you in between him and the door. There's no escape, so much for not unleashing his demons when he's a devil in disguise himself. He nuzzles your neck and lets out a desperate, needy noise.
His tongue peeks out to lick a strip of your neck. You gasp, your tense body melting into him. He holds you by grabbing your waist with his hands. “I need you,” he whispered, he pulled back and looked at you with pathetic, puppy eyes; impossible to say no to.
“Give yourself to me, Coryo.”
It's your fault. He will give himself to you. Demons and all. Bloody, pathetic, insane Coriolanus Snow, he's yours now.
“Yours,” he groaned, pressing wet, desperate kisses onto your neck, you move your head to give him more space, more skin to mark. He growls near your ear, letting the past high rush into his veins. The hold he has on your waist gets tighter. You were in different clothes, your academy uniform changed into a simple pink top and jeans.
You let out a moan when he bites into your neck, breaking the skin to form a dark bruise. You pressed into him like a whore. You whine, “I should let you kill more men if it gets you like this.”
He freezes. He then leans back. His lips parted to take in breaths, his pupils blown and his cheeks a deep wine red. He looks debauched and sexy. It drives you insane. You don't say anything further, waiting for his reaction.
He breaks out a feral, primal grin on his face. You were perfect for him. God, you were. He let his fingers wove themselves into your locks and he tugged hard. He relishes the whine that leaves your lips. It didn't hurt, no, he could see the same insane lust in your eyes that he felt in his blood.
He crashed his lips onto your soft ones. Both of your teeth clashed against each other as he kissed for the first time in his life. It was in no way perfect. Too much tongue, uncoordinated, sloppy, wet and so, fucking filthy. His blood rushed down his body as he sucks at your tongue, his fingers pulling at your hair tighter, moving your head so he could fuck your lips with his tongue. His free hand went near your neck. It would be easy to take your life, he realized.
He felt your pulse under his fingertips. His hand around your neck, it was there but he didn't put any pressure on it. His lips attached to yours still engaged in a fight for dominance, and neither of you was willing to give in. Each chasing your own, selfish pleasure through the kiss. He disappointingly understood he would never be able to live a life with you dead. Your beating heart gave him the same rush taking a life did.
You made him feel alive simply by existing.
Your existence is his survival.
You're his.
He groans into your mouth as he comes to the realization. He breaks the kiss, a string of saliva connecting you both. He immediately went back for a few more kisses, already craving your lips like it was cocaine, chasing the chocolate taste on your tongue.
You gasp, taking in much-needed air as both break away again. His hand which was on your neck, travels to your jeans to unbutton them. Your hand holds his wrist before he can slide your pants off.
“Am bleeding,” you whispered, your eyes wide.
He had seen plenty of blood today, what's more? “Don't care,” he grunts out, he slides your jeans down, along with your panties letting it pool around your ankles. You kick them aside on the floor.
He buried his face into your shoulder, as you took a deep breath. “Can I?” He asked, his hands waiting for permission as his blunt nails dug into your thighs. Frankly, he doesn't even want to ask. And one day, he won't have to.
“Yes, Coryo,” you consent, your voice breathless and needy.
He was glad you couldn't see the satisfied grin on his face. He ignored his aching cock as his fingers slowly traveled up to between your soaked cunt. He pressed his palm against your pussy, letting his hand be colored by your blood and juices. He begins to move his palm up and down your folds and you moan, oversensitive. You begin to rut into his hand and he warningly squeezed your thigh.
“No,” he barks out, a sudden slap on your pussy making you cry out. “Behave, dove.”
You let out a whine, and Coriolanus doesn't want to handle a brat when he's feeling heaven for the first time. He slaps your pussy again, making you jolt. He whispered, dark and menacing, “Behave, bitch.”
“Coryo,” you moan.
“That's it, dove. Let me play with you,” he encourages as his fingers begin to touch your pussy, feeling up your slick folds, your slit through which you leaked out thick goops of blood he couldn't care less about.
His thumb finds your clit, he realized the bud was the source of pure bliss to you from the way you gasped as he began to play with it. His thumb roughly circles around the pearl, and you whine out his name, your hips bucking in again like a whore.
He allows you to do this, knowing that your brain is mush from the pleasure. He begins to bite into your neck, creating more dark hickeys that luckily the academy uniform will hide. He lets out a groan as he slips inside the first digit of your warm, slick, and tight gummy walls. His cock throbs with need. But he won't fuck you so soon, with everything still new to him.
“Fuck,” you cuss, your eyes rolling back. You would have fallen on the floor if it wasn't Coriolanus supporting you. He fucks into your warmth with a single finger, unsure if he should put another one in.
“More,” you whine and he listens. He gently thrust another of his long and dainty fingers inside of your bloody, wet cunt. He moans as he feels your walls pulsate against his digits.
“You feel perfect around my fingers. Look at your pussy squeezing them like a vice. Will your cunt squeeze my cock like that too?” He whines into your ears, growing desperate, his hips rutting into your side. The friction of his pants on his dick was dry but gratifying. He knew he spoiled his pants with pre-cum. He didn't care. He hears you whimper, unable to answer his sinful words.
“Coryo! Slow down!” You cry out as his fingers fuck into you at a rough pace, he wasn't sure what felt good for you or not. He listens, slowing down considerably, he decides to crook his fingers and finds a spongy spot pressing into his fingertips.
You let out a scream of pleasure, and Coriolanus has to use his free hand to shut you up. He pressed his palm onto your lips, muffling your noises. You liked him pressing into that spot. He crooked his fingers even more, rubbing the spot. He giggles as he sees your eyes glaze over like a dumb whore, your cunt spasming around his digits, close to cumming.
He begins to speed up again, and he knows it hurts a bit for you. He couldn't bring himself to care, your pussy is his. He will do whatever he wants. But as he feels the vibration of your desperate whine on his hand. He pressed wet kisses along your jaw, whispering apologies.
“Cum on my fingers, dove,” he whispered, his fingers hitting your g-spot with each thrust, his hips rutting into the side of your body. He was close to snapping himself, for you he was willing to cum in his pants like a stupid boy.
His thumbs find your clit again, now he gets even more feral. The pleasure borderlines to pain, and you drool, your chin covered in saliva which he licks up without shame. “It's fine,” he coos, “Cum, baby.”
He rubbed at your g-spot, his thumb flicking your clit. The coil in your stomach unwraps itself, ecstasy filling your veins as your cunt spasms around his digits. You cum from his fingers, your mind blank. Your eyes rolled back.
He groans, feeling his cock twitch and cums in his pants. It was surprisingly the best orgasm he ever had. He couldn't believe he came untouched. He couldn't find himself to be embarrassed about it, not when he has to pick up your pieces.
“You here with me?” He asked softly, gazing into your glossy eyes. You nod back, weak. He guides you to his bed. “Let me clean you up,” he whispered, kissing your forehead.
He quickly changed into his pajamas, cleaning his hand clean of your blood. He takes a wet towel and cleans up the bloody mess smearing your thighs. You let out a whine when the towel touches your pussy. You were sensitive after your orgasm. He shushed you, “It's fine, doll.”
And he cleans you up before he helps you wear your panties. He doesn't make you wear the jeans as he doesn't want you to have any sensory overload right now. He goes to the kitchen and brings you a glass of water. He helps you drink the full glass, encouraging you softly.
He even puts a towel under you, in case you bleed through your pad. He feels the tiredness weighing him down and he lays down in bed beside you. The games will be there tomorrow. But he will only have this night with you once.
“You're everything, Coryo,” he hears you whisper, your throat hoarse even after drinking water.
You're his everything too.

Coriolanus strides through the citadel.
His pace was quick and egger to reach its destination of Dr Gaul's playroom.
He passes a line of Peace keepers without a glace, and they don't bother him. Now knowing the face of the youngest game maker ever.
He yanks open the door, and walks down her long corridor of horrors to were she sat at her operating table, digging into a screaming creature.
He slams his piece of paper down on the desk beside her, and she eyes its curiously.
"The work I've done today" he explains. The crunch paper read the headline; the 11th hunger games: problems and solutions. And that was all.
She goes back to her work after a quick glance.
"congratulations".
"You need to do something about it" he throws his hands up frustrated and begins to pace, "i can't think. I sit in that room all day staring at paper".
He refers to his quite lavish and large office as a room. The Spoils of the Capital no longer foreign to him.
"A lobotomy perhaps?". Dr Gaul continues her work uninterested in the boys issues.
"Don't you want me to be the best I can be? Elevate the Hunger games to be something that the Capital people cheer and look froward to?"
"You would not be standing in front of me if i thought otherwise" Dr Gaul remarks.
"then help me. He stops his pacing to look at her.
"What would you have me do, Mr Snow?"
"Give me a letter of transit out of district 12"
"i thought you said you killed Lucy-grey"
"I did".
he is pretty sure he did. Even if the bullet never made fatal impact, she would never survive the infection let alone the elements of the forest.
'There was another. A young girl who would wash my peace keeper uniform."
"My!' the irradiate old women coo'd, "What a lover boy you truly are"
Enthralled by his request, Dr Gaul spins out of her chair and goes to retrieve the paper from her writings desk.
"A simple girl hinders you from completing your work? a district girl no less. Does she know this?"
"I've never even spoken to her" he admits.
Dr Gual lets out a loud laugh as she flicks her pen to her signature.
"You are more like me than you like to claim. You have your pets and I have mine" she walks over, holding the yellow piece of paper in her hands.
'Dare i say mine are more useful, but after all you are just a man"
Coriolanus reaches for it but she pulls it back.
"And man, when they are truly focused are the most dangerous things on the planet".
He doesn't shy away from her stare. It holds no horror for him any longer. Rather he challenges it. He had his fathers eyes. Cold, deep and unrelenting to opposition.
He wins another round and she pushes the paper into his hands. He gives no thank you as he turns back to the door.
'let's hope this one survives you".
Her words still him by the door, but he had no time to dwell. He had a train to catch, peace keepers to organize, and a girl to bring home.
---------
Mabel had just gotten home for the day. Had just set down her satchel and begin to make her way to the kitchen to help prepare dinner when peace keeps knocked down her door. Her complaints of the wet weather now seeming immaterial as they flooded the small house, turning its residents up against the wall.
She calls out to her father as he is violently shoved to his knees.
"That's the girl. the young one" a peace keeper nodded in her direction. Another turns, heading down the hall for you.
"RUN!" Her father demands and Mabel takes off through the back door. She runs through the pouring rain past her village to the backing forest were she knew she could hide.
Branches mark her face up as she pushes through the thickness. She couldn't stop, hearing numerus foot steps chasing her. She dodges and weaves hopping to lose them enough so she could hide.
A shot is fired, offering her a lull in the marching as their commander reprimanded them.
"unharmed! Unharmed! you imbecile! capital orders".
She jumps over a large fallen log and nestles herself as far as she could under it. The mud sloshes underneath her, weighing her knee length grey dress down while the rest of the mud smeared over her bare legs. The rain keeps pelting down which help to wash away her foot prints.
She wondered what she did to gain capital attention. Enough Capital attention that they would want her unharmed and not shot at first sight.
"little girl" she heard the same voice that reprimanded the others call out to her, "come out. We are not going to hurt you unless you make us".
Living in the districts all her life she knew that was a life. She clamps her hands over her mouth to quieten her heavy breathing, as she listens to their walking footsteps.
"If not for you" the voice continues, "Then for your family. They'll hang if you make this too hard on us".
Her family. She was powerless to protect them if she ran. She was powerless now, but provocation was the last thing Peace keepers needed to make good on a threat.
So she came out. A peace Keeper had just been to her left, above her. If he wasn't stupid he would have found her anyway.
he raised his gun to her and called out to the others.
"There's a good girl" The shrieking voice was placed to a little man. Short in statue and round. He had bushy eyebrows that nearly hit his helmet and a large flat nose.
"cuff her"
The peace keeper lowered his gun to do so.
"What have I done?" she asks as she is lead back through the forest with a tight grip on her arm.
"capital business. But you can add running away from Peace keepers and resisting arrest to the list".
"I haven't done anything. You can't do this" Mabel pleads. It was correct. She was an outstanding citizen of district 12. She worked more than she played.
'Take it up with the capital" The little man huffed.
She is led through the peering eyes of the village back to her home where a large Capital issued van was waiting. Upon seeing the retrieving group, half the peace keepers loaded themselves back up onto the wooden panels on the side ready for deployment.
The peace Keepers that pushed their guns into the back of her mum and dad's head relent as well. It was late and this mission had interpreted their dinner time.
She could see her father throw his arms over her mother keeping the old women from fighting a Peace Keeper. It would only get them all killed.
she was pushed to the van. not even allowed a goodbye. A peace keeper in the back of the van positioned himself to lift her up. He squatted down and held out his arms to lift. She was going to make it easy for him by stepping up upon outer frame but a voice lit the fire once more.
"Mabel!".
She froze. She knew that little voice from a crowd of a hundred.
her little sister had returned home from sewing school to see her being loaded up into a peace keeper van.
"Livy go to Mrs Flexures house. Go!".
She protested, choosing to run through a crowd of big men.
A Peace keeper caught her and lifted her up into his arms like a flailing fish.
"let her go" Mabel screams. She tries to make her way to her sister but is stopped by the Goblin caption.
Mabel was normally a outstanding citizen but hearing her sister screaming, she bit down on the captions hand.
He shouted as her teeth sunk, releasing her from his hold. She pulls against hands and sounds of the reserved peace keepers exiting the van to get to her sister.
She is stopped but it didn't matter, Livy was dropped in case the Peacekeeper needed both hands.
A fellow neighbor had ran out and grabbed her taking her into the safety of his home.
Mabel felt her heart beat back to life as her sister left harms way.
She smiles as she sees the backhand from the caption come down upon her. Her family was safe, it didn't matter if she wasn't.
The rain had eased up but left the ground with pools of red mud. Without her hands to catch herself, Mabel fell face first into one.
"Give me the thing" The goblin looking man demanded. A hand held contraption similar to the one the medics used to give them their shot was handed over.
she screamed and kicked at him, wiggling her way backwards on the ground. Unsure of what he had planned to give her. She doubted it was a vaccinee against measles.
he scuffled with her, pulling up the cap of her sleave and releasing the medicine into her arm.
It took effect almost immediately. Her vision began to blur and head rang only for the moment it took for her to be lifted and placed upon the vans floor among the booted feet. She could see one mans loosened shoe laces before darkness over took her.
-----------
Coriolanus waits at the train station. Hiding from the rain inside the door frame of the carriage. His eyes rake across the platform. He was getting impatience.
he had half expected by the time he made the journey they would of had her waiting for him. Instead he was left to wait in the cold. It had remined him too much of lucy-grey.
He had tried to remain seated in the warmth of the carriage, but he was far to restless to be bothered by servants trying to please him. He didn't want cake. He didn't want a hot beverage. He didn't want their hands over him giving him a massage.
he wanted to take his girl and be on his way.
But he remembered what district 12 was like. A collection of useless no hopers. He would be glad to finally turn his back on the place for good. With Mabel by his side there would be nothing keeping him from erasing his history here all together.
He pulls his gloved tighter on his wrist, and closes his red large coat higher to his throat. District 12 only ever swayed between the extremes.
He had remembered how hot it was the day he and lucy grey set path to their new home.
Sweat had rolled down his neck to his back. His t-shirt clinging unkindly to him. He was carrying all the heavy things while Lucy-grey wondered before him, unbothered by weight.
He took it as a punishment. It allowed weak people to drag him down, as this weight now did.
"I've been thinking" He swats a mosquito on his neck, "It ain't only us who can tie the murder to me and you".
lucy-Grey spun around to him.
"that girl. The one who helped us escape after they found the bodies."
She had looked at him for a second while ushering him and Lucy-Grey out a side entrance. he remembered the spark that ran through him after finally being seen by her. He tore free from Lucy-grey's hand less she think he wasn't avaliable. But he doubt she saw it from how fast she closed the door. Her sweet voice telling peace keepers they had gone the other way.
"who? Mabel?".
Mabel. He finally had a name. He asked around the compound but no one knew. She washed and ironed uniforms, who cared what her name was. But he did, and he finally had it as he fled from her.
" we should turn back around and get her. Make sure she doesn't talk. Even if they don't find the guns, word of mouth's all they need to come after us".
"nu-uh Mabel wouldn't rat us out. Peace keeps would have caught us Covey foke long before they did if it hadn't been for her and her secret hiding places."
Secret hiding places? was that why she was so difficult to find when he had patrolling duty. He must have swapped ten or twelve times trying to find her amongst the sections.
"You said it yourself people are tortured for information here. We should get to her before they do".
Life in the woods with him wouldn't be too different from life in the districts for her. He would try and make it comfortable. Going fishing every morning for her, and brining back his game from hunting. They would settle down and have a fine little life. Lucy-Grey would find her baring in the woods and go her own way.
"You my man, Coriolanus?" She asks. Her voice was full of anger and questioning.
Not even remotely. He was her victor , she was his pawn. Still, she was his only hope of getting as far as he needed to go so he nestles up against her and takes her thumb between his forefinger and thumb.
"Of course I am".
He kisses her to avoid suspicion but it lacks any true passion.
It seemed to satisfy none the less.
"She won't tell and even if she does we'll be too far gone for them to catch us".
He pulls away, sour, and continues to lead their journey to the cabin. They would rest tonight and make ground tomorrow.
he spoused in the dead of the night it could be Mabel beneath him and not lucy grey. He could put meat on her bones to give her a fuller figures like Mabel's. Ensure that Lucy-grey keeps her long hair and perhaps convince her to put it back in a braid like Mabel kept hers.
In day light so long as Lucy-grey was not directly in his eye sight he could pretend that it was Mabel's hand he clung to.
he had resolved himself to a life of pretend by the time they reached the cabin. Only to find the key to his freedom underneath the floor boards.
He picks up the gun tenderly, eyeing it as if it would disappear.
'What is it?' Lucy-grey asks.
He turns around and shows her. She must have known she was done before Coriolanus did. she made a quick escape to go get Katniss while Coriolanus was still distracted by his freedom.
He had made a comment about rain and she had made one back but he wasn't sure that exacts. He had them which means he didn't have to give up his Mabel.
Unless Lucy-grey blind with jealousy turned him in. His eyes flick to the door. She had served her purpose but now had to be eliminated for his future.
he follows his champion into the woods. Calling out for her. She was a killer, but so was he.
"Lucy-Grey!" He calls, looking for any source of colour he could find.
He saw a pop of orange in the distance and headed for it. It was his mothers scarf. he huffs and puffs as he picks it up, Mabel wouldn't treat his mothers things like this.
A snake jumps out as he lifts it before it runs away to quick for Coriolanus to get a good look at it to see if it was poisons or not.
He lets out a wicked laugh. he was going to feel bad for killing her. It was not her fault she was in love, but now the only thing he would feel is satisfaction.
He punches the ground as the pain pluses up his arm.
"Was that poisonousness? are you tryin to kill me?' he calls out once more, "Lucy-Grey! I said are- you- trying -to- kill- me?'
he picks up his gun once more and begins to hunt. He needed to kill her fast so he could get back to the medical Centre. It wouldn't do to die just as he is winning.
Singing could be heard and he whips in its direction before the mocking jays picked it up. Soft footed he follows, pushing down large bush with his gun.
he must have spooked her as she took of running gaining his attention. He fired a shot, and he could see her stumble, possibly hit, but she kept running.
He took off after her, his heavy pointed gun slowing him down. he pushes through the forest to where he expected her to be laying and begging for her life but finds the spot empty.
She was there, he suspects bending down to pick up her earring, but now lost to the sounds of the forest and damn mocking jays.
He lets off the camber into the sky hopping to kill some of the birds to quiten the sound. He ran out of bullets before he could make a difference.
It didn't matter she wouldn't survive out here on her own, and she would be too smart to show her face in district 12 again with the mayor and now officer Coriolanus looking out for her. When he returned to base he could explain to commander Hoff that he followed a rebel into the forest where he was attacked by the snake. He would suggest that a fence be put up around the district so no other lesser peace keeper would die, and no better rebel could make it their base.
Then he would find where Mabel lived, and take her away with him.
The idea fueled his movements as he packed up the guns and sunk them in the water. But as he let go for them to sink, he realized all the holes in his plan.
Even if he could convince her to come to the station with him by a gun in her side, subdued with threats to her family. How would he convince Commander Hoff to let her on the train. Could he somehow sneak her on the train past the people. Would they allow him to bring a luggage so large to officer training. And even if he managed to get her to district 2 how would he keep her a secret.
No. He had to leave her. Wait until he plowed through officer training and got back to the Capital. From there he could figure out how to bring her to him.
It was a delight when Dr Gaul called him back to the Capital instead. He had wanted to angle himself into a higher position, perhaps finish university, before he made his move. But thoughts of her marrying, giving up what was his, plagued his mind.
He wasn't regretful as he stood out in the cold. It wasn't a lie when he told Dr Gaul she was effecting his work. It was hard to stay focused in University, and in his apprenticeship. The districts married young never knowing how much time they truly had left.
It was a dangerous place and Mabel was in habit of offering a helping hand to crook and traitors. It was best that she took her place beside him now. He would just have to learn how to juggle yet another thing.
he wouldn't have much time for her between work, university, the steep climb to the top, and keeping favor with the Plinths as they doted on him as a son. But Tigress and Grandma'am would keep her company within the walls of the Snow penthouse.
He still lived with them. kept under his watchful eye and protection. He could now offer them a life that the head of the Snow household should be able to offer. The least they could do was look after his girl while he was away.
He straightened up as a small commander and a handful of peace keepers make their way across the platform.
A large peace keeper carried a small girl in his arms. She was unconscious. Not what he had asked, but perhaps made it easier on all parties.
He jumps down from the carriage as they near. He could see her cheek was swollen and busied. Her brown hair stuck together with mud and twigs. Her skin is dirty, bare and covered in goosebumps from the cold.
Still he considered her beautiful.
"give her to me" He demanded, readying his arms to take her. Mabel is slipped into them. She dirties his suit but he doesn't mind.
"tell the Conductor we are ready to go".
With his strength he hauls them both up into the private carriage. He takes her to the booth and lays her down so her feet were by the window and her head was resting on his thigh.
He shoves off her gloves so he could unbutton his coat and rest the soft material over her. It was warm in the cabin but he could feel a slight shake of her soaked body.
The train takes off and pushes him slightly back into his seat from the force. Once it gained a steady pace, the servants rose from their compartments and entered the cabin to serve coffee and cake.
They left him at his request, and remained drinking coffee and eating treats with one hand while the other laid upon Mabel's shoulder.
He was sure once they reached home he would get a lot of good work done. It would be early morning by the time the train reached the station. By the time he got her home, tigress and Grandma'am would surely be awake and having breakfast.
Grandma'am would be no bother. From a young age she allowed Coriolanus to do as he pleased. But Tigress would inundate him with questions and demands. He wondered if she would still be sleeping at this point in time. he hoped she would. Feilding question from two angry women at once might be too much for him to bare.
Until that point he allowed himself to enjoy this time. He was sure it would be some time before he got Mabel quiet again. The silence allowed him to plan his week. Summer break was coming up which meant he all his assignments were due. The Pliniths had wanted him to come vacation with them but now that wasn't a possibility. He would have to make up a story of Grandma'am ill health.
He could see the sun peeking up, and knew they must be close. Going into a tunnel being surrounded by vast nothingness and emerging through the city Centre, Coriolanus knew he had gotten away with it. He had the money, the power, and now the girl. All that was left was presidency, and that was ever so fast flying into his reach with the help of Dr Gaul.
The train stops and announces its arrival. he picks her up, wrapped in his coat and jumps off the train before the servants could position the ramp.
he ignores their warm wishes and heads straight to his chaffeur waiting outside of the station. He again ignores any form of greeting as he enters into the car. The driver closes the door he was holding open, asking as he sat back in the drivers seat if home was the destination.
A simple yes and the car took off.
he held Mabel on his lap as they drove home. He could see the driver look back in his mirror and Coriolanus wanted to put the divider up between them but didn't want to take his hands off his Mabel to do so.
It wasn't a long drive home, and he found himself barking at his driver to hurry up and open his door. Despite what was awaiting for him at home.
With the elevator now restored, he didn't have to carry her up flights of stairs. It was too early for the residents to be up and heading to work but the quicker he got Mabel inside the more secure he felt that when time came he could sell her as a unknown recluse heiress without too much trouble.
His keys were in his pocket which he couldn't reach without letting her go. Instead his shoes kick the bottom of the door and tigress is quick to answer.
'Coryo! oh my god"
He pushes past her, heading across the room to where Grandma'am sat at the breakfast table.
'What happened? is she alright". Tigress follows him to where he stood.
"She looks district!" Grandma'am muttered with disgust.
Tigress Places her hand across Mable's forehead to check for fever. She had always done it to Coriolanus as a child.
He shifts her away from Tigress's touch. He wanted to be the one that looked after her, and if Tigress felt even a slight fever he would never be able to shoo her away.
"What happened?" she asked again, peering over his shoulder to the thankfully still unconscious girl.
"Let me put her down first, Tigress" Coriolanus demanded.
he walked past Grandma'am at the table who had resumed eating her breakfast, to his room. He kicks the door closed behind him and lies Mable on his bed.
She had dried but so had the mud. It cacked her dress and along her legs. She would need a good bath and Coriolanus would need new bed sheets but for the moment he settled for retrieving a warm wash cloth from his bathroom and rubbing the dirt from her face.
She stirred a little, and he thought for a second she would wake up to see him hovering over her with a rag in his hand. But she didn't.
He thought about kissing her after seeing her deep state, but she was covered in dirt. He wasn't entirely sure that his lips would even meet skin.
It was a good thing too. He had enough to explain to Tigress who would have busted into his room at the exact moment.
"Who is she?" Tigress whispered.
Coriolanus ignored her and began to take off Mabel's muddy boots. His long fingers undid the laces and pulled the shoe, throwing them across the room.
'Coriolanus!'
He strode over and took Tigress arm leading her back to the living room. He leaves the door open so he could hear if Mabel woke.
"She'll be staying with us for a while"
the rest of her life.
"Why?" a valid question that Coriolanus couldn't truthfully answer.
"I saved her. They were going to kill her in the districts" not a whole lie.
"But why bring her here? is she hurt?". Good hearted Tigress was going to be dreadfully upset when she found out the truth.
"She'll be staying here. And I need you, Tigress to be friend's with her. Look after her while i am away".
"I don't understand" She begins but is cut off.
"You don't need to understand. You just need to do as your told. Haven't I been good to you? Didn't I bring us from ruin to give you everything you deserved?".
"Yes, Coriolanus, but-"
"Do this for me, Tigress" he begs.
She looks up to him and sees her little cousin. Her darling, little cousin who she would do anything for.
"Okay, Coriolanus".
He kisses her cheek and lets her go.
"Coriolanus" his Grandma'am exclaimed, "You're clothes are filthy".
-------
Mabel wakes with a fright. She springs her body up upon the soft bed and panics. She could see high, well built buildings out of the window against blue skies. They had taken her to the capital.
She looks around the room to see the door wide open. She sprints to it running out and down the hall. Her bare feet slapping against the ground.
She skids along the floor to a halt having seen the three high members of society.
Coriolanus could only have thought of two worse times she could have woken up. He was hopping to get a few more hours to take his weekly meeting with Dr Gual and return home to complete his next assignment.
But she stood now in front of him with wild eyes. The Snows had taken to having tea in the living room.
Coriolanus dropped his cup down and rose to speak to her but she took it as a sign of aggression and lunged to take a cheese knife off the table.
Grandma'am shrieked at the sight.
'I don't want to hurt you" Mabel spoke.
"You don't need to. You're safe" Tigress consoles
"Where am I?" the girl asked in a hard voice.
'The capital" Coriolanus answered. It was the first thing he had ever said to her.
"I know that. Where in the Capital. The prison?".
"Take a look around you. Not much of a prison". Coriolanus takes a step froward and Mabel holds out her cheese knife.
The Avoxes had left the platter to enjoy as they drank their tea. Now Coriolanus wished he had thrown the board out after them.
"is that were I am heading?" .
Coriolanus doesn't answer but takes a step forwards.
"For heavens sake, Coriolanus. Stop, You're scaring the poor girl" Tigress rose also to regain her cousin but he was too far out to reach to grab without causing the girl to act rash.
"Coriolanus" his name sounded heavenly from her lips, "you take another step and i promise I'll dig this knife into your stomach".
"I am not going to hurt you" he promises.
'I might hurt you" Mabel retorts.
"Get her, Coriolanus!" grandma'am urges and he shudders at himself loosing what remained of his good guy image.
"You're not going to the Capital prison. Just give me the knife and we can have a cup of tea and talk about this".
He holds out his hand expectedly but she keeps grip of it.
"If not for the prison. What am I here for?"
That was a question he could not answer in front of his cousin and grandma.
He points to the kitchen area as if some one was there, 'Get her" he yells to no one.
Mabel stupidly looks giving Coriolanus a chance to get close enough to pin her to the wall. He lays his forearm against her chest, keeping her flat against the wall, using his other hand to clamp down upon her fingers, repeatedly hitting her hand against the wall until she lost grip of the knife.
He kicks it backwards across the floor. He can hear Tigress calling out to him and Grandam'am cheering.
But the fight wasn't beaten out of her yet. His proximity allowed her to bite down on his shoulder. Her bruised cheek no longer a concern or mystery for him.
He groans throwing her to the floor, where he promptly picked her up again before she could catch her breath. He wraps his arms around hers and pulls her to her feet, pushing behind her back to his room.
She kicks and wails in his arms, but she was a starving district girl and he was a well built man. He gets her there with little trouble and throws her to the ground over the doors threshold. She is hardly on her feet before he locked the door.
Tigress had followed him. He didn't notice until her hand went flat against the wooden door. Pressing against the noise of mabel's banging.
"You can't leave her like this".
"She made the choice. I was happy to leave her in the living room with you".
he takes tigress back to the living room once more pushing on the small of her back.
'i am late already. Make sure Grandma'am doesn't call any peace keepers, while i am gone".
"where are you going?" Tigress wraps herself around his arm as he walks to the door.
'i have to met with Doctor Gaul" he explains to Tigress, "leave her there. I'll get out as quick as I can, until I do Just leave her to kick and scream. She dangerous, Tigress. Do not try and open that door".
The only key to his room hangs on his key chain but tigress was a innovative women.
"She's only a girl" Tigress counteracts.
"A district girl!' grandma'am yells.
he turns to meet her gaze.
"I'll be home as soon as I can" He looks in his cousins eyes for defiance, "Can i trust you?".
"Of course" her loyalty lied with him.
"The door remains locked until I get home then".
He shrugs off her hold as he puts on one of his old coats, and runs out the building with dirty clothes on.
-----
"You're nearly an half an hour late, Mr Snow".
Dr Gaul was in the same position as yesterday. Digging into a poor animal, trying to manufacture it as it screams.
"I know". The driver who was weary after waiting all day and night yesterday was not on top of his game in getting Coriolanus here.
She eyes his dirty clothes under his coat. Nothing left unnoticed in her presence.
'i take it you got your girl after you left me yesterday"
"i did"
''And i take it she wasn't all that happy to see you".
Coriolanus felt slightly upset that she didn't seem to remember him from his peace keeping days. To be fair, it was Lucy-grey she was focused on. She loved music and dancing, coming to every gig and staying at the front the whole night while Coriolanus watched from the back. Maybe it was for the best. He could present himself as a new man.
"She was ecstatic".
Dr Gaul put down after tools, and the animal stop squealing dead.
"So that's happy blood soaking through your shirt"
Coriolanus looks to his injured shoulder to see it leaking blood. Her biting wasn't a warning.
he huffs out and squeezes his eyes shut annoyed.
"Give me todays assignment. I'll do it at home".
Dr Gaul rises from her chair and pushes his coat and shirt aside to examine the bite wound. He stands still and allows her to.
"No assignment today. You look like you've got your hands quite full".
She places a hand on his bit shoulder and he drops it away in pain.
Dr Gaul begins one of her horrid laughs.
"this one might survive you after all".

Chapter 3: The Proposal
Your mind buzzed with the memory of Coriolanus's words on your way home, the word "familiar" haunting your thoughts. It felt like a dismissal, a reduction of their friendship to something insignificant. As she arrived home late, a pit settled in your stomach. you could hear the muffled sounds of your family enjoying dinner as you entered. Trying to avoid disturbing them, you tiptoed towards the staircase, hoping to slip upstairs unnoticed.
But before you could reach safety, your mother's voice rang out, calling your name and inviting you to join them for dinner. you hesitated, torn between the desire to retreat to your room and the expectation of familial obligation. Sighing softly, you reluctantly changed course and descended the stairs, preparing to join your family for the evening meal.
As you descended the stairs into the dining room, a familiar scene unfolded before you. Quincy occupied the head of the table, with her mother to his right and Benjamin and Charlotte to his left. A moment of contemplation hung in the air as you debated where to sit—next to your mother or at the other end.
"Are you just gonna stand there, gawking, or are you going to come eat?" Quincy's demanding voice broke your hesitation. Opting for the other end, you replied, "Of course, my apologies."
Your mother called for Christa to make a plate for you, but you insisted you weren't hungry. Quincy, however, wasn't having it. "Eat," he commanded, and as your food was brought out, you sat, toying with it but not taking a bite.
A moment of familial chatter ensued, with Charlotte excitedly recounting her visit to the zoo and interaction with the tributes. Despite the unpleasant surprise of seeing them on television, you didn't want to upset Charlotte. You smiled and replied, "Yes, I actually saw you guys on television. I almost thought I was losing my mind." you chuckled, attempting to downplay the unsettling encounter. Benjamin opened his mouth to speak it was cut off, Quincy's commanding voice cut through the conversation, demanding an explanation for your absence from class. Tension hung in the air as Quincy pressed you about where you had been.
"I was with Dr. Gual. I'm assisting with the Hunger Games this year, and I plan on studying under her when I go to University," you explained, trying to diffuse the situation.
"University," Quincy scoffed, his tone dismissive. "And who's supposed to pay for that, hmm?" he added, the underlying tension in his voice hinting at a deeper frustration.
"I thought you would, but if you're unable to provide for your family like a real man, then I can apply for a scholarship," you replied, your tone steady, offering Quincy a small smile. The room grew tense, and your mother stopped eating, recognizing the brewing storm in her husband's eyes.
"Darling, plea—" your mother began, but Quincy cut her off abruptly. "Out," he commanded, jaw clenched. The twins exchanged perplexed looks, and even Benjamin voiced his disappointment about missing dessert. However, Quincy's anger brought no compromise."Out, everyone!" Quincy bellowed, slamming his fist on the table. The atmosphere hung heavy with tension, and as the rest of the family filed out of the room, you and Quincy locked eyes. The lingering echo of his anger filled the room as she remained, refusing to avert her gaze.
Quincy's fury simmered as the rest of the family left the room, leaving him alone with you. "You think you're so smart, don't you?" Quincy sneered, his voice dripping with disdain. "Just like your father—thinking he was better than everyone. Look where that got him." your heart sank at the mention of your father, a wound that never quite healed. you felt a surge of anger, but held your ground, meeting Quincy's gaze. "He stood for something," you retorted, your voice steady. "More than I can say for you."
Quincy's face contorted in rage, his eyes ablaze with fury. He threw his chair back and made his way toward you, grabbing you by the hair and forcing you to look at him.
"You ungrateful little—" Quincy began, but you interrupted him defiantly. "Ungrateful little what, Quincy? Say it. Go ahead. What are you going to do, hit me? Does that make you feel like a man, Quincy? Is that why you do it, because you keep trying to be something you're not?" you said, grinning up at him with a mixture of defiance and disdain. The air crackled with tension as you locked eyes, both refusing to back down.
Quincy's rage reached its peak as he slammed your head against the table. For a moment, everything went blurry, and a persistent ringing filled your ears. "You never know when to shut your mouth, do you?" he growled, finally letting go of your hair and storming out of the dining room.
you lay there, the terrible ringing still echoing in your head. You knew it would surely leave a bruise by morning. Christa rushed into the dining room in concern. "Oh no, mistress, are you alright? Please, we must get you cleaned up."
You let out a pitiful laugh. "Leave me, Christa. I can get up by myself. I just need a second." That was the last thing you remembered before closing your eyes, allowing the darkness to envelop you.
Tumblr media
The next morning was agonizing; you hoped that the events from the previous night had only resulted in a simple bruise, one you could cover up easily. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. The impact with the table had left a gash just above your hairline, making concealing the injury more challenging. With your face partially obscured, you bypassed the usual routine of heading to school. Instead, you made your way straight to the lab to seek ointment from Dr. Gual. The eccentric doctor was the only adult you felt you could turn to without facing a barrage of questions. Dr. Gual didn't pry; she already knew the reasons behind your frequent visits, evident in the all-too-familiar signs of physical abuse that lingered beneath her attempts to conceal them. After a brief visit to Dr. Gual for treatment, you headed to the morning seminar led by Professor Crispus Demigloss. By the time you arrived, you were already late. However, Professor Demigloss, being elderly and deliberate in his pace, hadn't progressed far into roll call. Handing him a pass signed by Dr. Gual, you were permitted to enter. As you scanned the room for an open seat, only two caught your eye. One was on the other side of Sejanus, who was seated next to Coriolanus. As your eyes locked, a mixture of pity and concern flashed in Coriolanus's gaze. The other option was beside Felix, who gave her a warm smile and motioned for her to join him. On any other day, she would have gravitated towards Coriolanus and Sejanus. However, something within you sought comfort, something she doubted she'd find with Coriolanus. Thus, you chose the seat next to Felix, who beamed with delight as you approached.
Felix flashed a charming grin as you settled into the seat beside him, leaning closer to whisper in your ear. " If I'd known I'd get such a delightful neighbor, I might've arrived late too," he teased.
you couldn't help but grin at his playful remark. "Oh, please, I'm sure you're used to the spotlight. But I must say, it's not a bad seat with such good company," you countered, matching his flirtatious tone with a hint of amusement.
As the lesson began, Felix leaned in quietly and asked, "Why are you late?" "I'm not late," you responded with a playful wink. "I'm right on time."
Despite your attempt to engage with the lesson, sleep still weighed heavily on your eyes.
A small yawn escaped you, and, in a moment of fatigue, you leaned closer to Felix, resting your head on his shoulder. In a fluid movement, he wrapped an arm around you, pulling you closer and placing a light kiss on your temple.
A mix of conflicting emotions washed over you. There was a pang of guilt for using Felix in this way, giving him hope for something more when you knew it might never happen. The desire for comfort, for the feeling of being held and loved, battled with the awareness that you were manipulating the situation. Yet, in this moment of vulnerability, you craved the illusion of control that it provided, a small semblance of order in a life that felt increasingly chaotic.
As Professor Demigloss delved into the discussion about the Games, you felt the burning intensity of Coriolanus's gaze directed at you. His eyes shot daggers, and though he appeared displeased, you couldn't bring yourself to care. He had his little songbird, and you had Felix. There was no reason for him to be mad at you. Matching his glare with your own, neither of you looked away until the professor interrupted.
Sejanus’s  hand went up directly. “Ah, Sejanus?” “Before we talk about making people watch, shouldn’t we begin with the question of whether or not watching is the right thing to do?” he said. Making you roll your eyes
“Let’s stay on topic, please,” the professor urged. Festus Creed then offered his perspective, suggesting making it a legal requirement for people to watch the Games. You couldn't help but think it was an idiotic proposal, as forcing people to watch would negate the purpose of the games.“What happens if you don’t watch?” asked Clemensia, not bothering to raise her hand. “In the districts, we execute you. In the Capitol, we make you move to the districts, and if you mess up again next year, then we execute you,” Festus cheerfully replied.
The class laughed, but soon serious contemplation followed. Ideas about enforcing the watching requirement were discussed, with random sampling and punishments being considered. Clemensia voiced her disdain, stating that the gruesome nature of the Games made people avoid watching. Sejanus, ever the idealist, interjected, “Of course they do! Who wants to watch a group of children kill each other? Only a vicious, twisted person. Human beings may not be perfect, but we’re better than that.” Livia challenged him, questioning how he knew what Capitol citizens wanted to watch, especially given his absence during the war. Lysistrata Vickers added, “Most of us don’t want to watch other people suffer.”
“We watched worse things during the war. And after,” you reminded Lysistrata, sitting up straight now. There had been some bloody stuff broadcast over the airwaves during the Dark Days, and many brutal executions after the Treaty of Treason had been signed. Opinions varied on caring about the Games. Some thought the tributes were unimportant, while others didn't care at all. Betting on the tributes was brought up as a way to make the Games more interesting. you saw potential in this idea and wrote it down for discussion with Dr. Gaul later.
After class, you went for lunch off-campus with Felix before heading to the lab. Your mood dampened upon seeing Dean Highbottom there. As the other students entered, you couldn't help but wonder about the dean's frequent presence in the lab lately. Dr. Gaul prodded at her experiments until the class settled. She greeted them with one of her rhymes, leaving the students bewildered. As she collected questionnaires, a small laugh escaped you."I'm Dr. Gaul, the Head Gamemaker, and I will be mentoring your mentorships," she announced, flipping through the papers. She frowned and held up Coriolanus's questionnaire. "This is what you were asked to do. Thank you, Mr. Snow. Now, what happened to the rest of you?" Coriolanus spoke up, sharing his experiences. "I had good luck with my tribute. She's a talker. But most of the kids wouldn't communicate. And even my girl can't see the point of making an effort at the interview." Sejanus chimed in, questioning the purpose of making an effort when the ultimate fate was the arena.
Dr. Gaul turned her attention to him. "You're the boy who fed the tributes. Why did you do it?" you knew Sejanus held a disdain for the Games, something you had mentioned to Dr. Gaul. He hesitated but stood firm.
"They were starving. We're going to kill them; do we have to torture them ahead of time as well?" Dr. Gaul labeled him a rebel sympathizer and acknowledged his disapproval of the Hunger Games. Sejanus suggested he be replaced, but she dismissed the idea with a chuckle, stating compassion was key to the Games. Sejanus's face fell, but he didn't argue back. You were genuinely surprised. He proved to be tougher than he looked, willing to challenge Dr. Gaul even at the risk of his position.
Dr. Gaul sparked an idea about involving the audience in the Games by allowing them to send food to the tributes in the arena.
This suggestion intrigued the class, with Festus even expressing interest in betting on the tributes he fed. Dr. Gaul instructed the students to collaborate and draft a proposal for this concept, hinting that she might consider implementing their ideas. Livia, surprised at the possibility of their ideas being used, questioned Dr. Gaul's intentions. Dr. Gaul, unfazed, explained that young minds often bring idealism and creativity. She shared that Dean Highbottom, in his youth, had conceptualized the Hunger Games as a theoretical idea. Despite the skepticism, Dr. Gaul encouraged the students to submit their proposal by the next morning.
Dr. Gaul had to leave for a meeting, advising you to prepare for the next day as there would be a lot of work. Confused, you asked about the plans for tomorrow. Dr. Gaul hinted that you would be the one to approve the proposals. Surprised by this responsibility, you felt a rush of excitement, smiling as you left, feeling eager for tomorrow.

Eyes Never Lie: Part IV
Tumblr media
gif made by nowadays
summary: Being friends with Coriolanus for a long time lets you what drives him to succeed and survive. You've also gained the insight to guess how he's feeling or what he's about to say just by the expression on his face. But only things that you could never decipher were the thoughts behind his eyes.
A.N: I’m not dead! Had a health emergency so that's why this is late (don't hate me), but part 4 is finally here!

Felix Ravinstill was dead.
You went by the hospital to check on him, only to hear his ventilator sound off the time of his death, sunrise on the last day of the 11th Hunger Games. You watched from a distance as his mother and father held themselves as they cried over the loss of their son, and you walked away, saddened by the death of a friend; the death toll of dead or scarred friends now rising to 3.
These were friends you had known since childhood, people you had grown up together with, people who are now dead and scarred, lives forever changed in the blink of an eye. You were walking out of the room when you were suddenly pushed into a bathroom. Your hand grabbed the sleeve of the person and pulled them off of you. You were met with yellow eyes, black hair, and a long turtleneck shirt. Your mouth fell open as you recognized the person who pulled you into the room.
“Clemmie?” you whispered and wrapped your arms around her. She hugged you back as you let a tear fall. “Why won't you visit me?” she asked, her tone having an angry edge to it. “Gaul told us you had an infectious flu.” You said, looking at her sickly appearance. “She's a liar, that snake changed me. I haven't gotten anyone sick.” she seethed, and you noticed she would hiss as her tongue would twitch with her body. Her eyes then scanned you, “You need to stay away from her, she's gonna get you killed, she already wants me dead.”
She then added to her sentence, “Don’t let her poison get to you, she wants us to be like her test!” Clemensia started to hiss as she held your arms, prompting the hospital staff to open the door, catching you two. One of them grabbed, holding one of her arms tight as another did the same.
“Watch! Her games are gonna get us all a free ticket to the next life!” Clemensia yelled before a staffer pricked her with a needle, and she went limp. Before she was dragged into another room, her shirt rode up, revealing the bottom of her torso, and a batch of scales festering in the middle.
The walk to the academy made your mind race. Your thoughts drifted to Lucy Gray, who was hopefully still alive. She has a low chance of making it out alive, that you knew. She could charm a crowd bit when it came to physical strength… yeah. Walking into the lab, you made yourself a promise: If there was any way you could help her in the games, rules be damned, you would do it. Gual was already waiting for you.
“take it you know about Ravinstill’s son?” She asked, to which you nodded in response. “Death, a certain subject you’ve become friends with these last few days.” Dr. Gaul said before leading you to a stack of cages, starting a long day of learning about her creations and how they were made.
You caught glimpses of the games, only seeing the death of Lucy’s fellow tribute, Jessup, another innocent life claimed by the games. While you were writing in your notepad, you heard a scream on the screen that broke your focus. Reaper was holding Dill in his arms, blood streaming out of her nose. She was dead. “Her illness finally took over.” you said to yourself, noticing Gaul’s eyes glued to the screen, a curious look on her face. In a turn of events, starts to line the dead tributes up in a line. This broke your focus, making you look at what he was doing.
The most shocking part came when he tore the capitol flag down from the arena, making you stand up. As he laid the flag over the fallen tributes, Sejanus’ words came into your mind. They didn't deserve this. In the corner of your eye, you saw Dr. Gaul go to a desk in front of a camera. “Start the broadcast.” She said to one of her other assistants. Reaper's words were soon cut off by Dr. Gaul.
“Capitol citizens, I’m afraid I must interrupt our Games to announce a tragic loss, one that affects us all. Felix Ravinstill, son of our beloved president, has this morning succumbed to his injuries sustained in the rebel bombing.” A few of the lab assistants gasped at the news as you turned towards Gaul, watching her break the news to Panem.
“Out there in the districts, they will be celebrating this young boy’s death as a triumph. I will not allow my Games to give our enemy such a victory. I swear to you, here and now, before the sun goes down tonight, a rainbow of destruction will engulf our arena. Even if it means there’s to be no victor in these Games.” And with that, she cut the feed.
Your mouth fell open, “You did that to cut the tribute off.” She looked at you with a cold stare, “Just one more rebel to kill.” You saw the lab assistants start to cage up the snakes, and you watched the colorful creatures of death go into a cylinder and be pushed outside, you turned and saw Coriolanus walking towards you. He was looking between you and the tank, a concerned look on his face.
He was holding his handkerchief in his hand and put it in your hand. “It holds her scent, please.” Coriolanus begged. The memory of Dr. Gaul making you retrieve the paper came back to you: the snakes didn't bite you, so they won't harm Lucy Gray. You nodded and walked to the tank, sliding it between the slot in just as it was lifted off. He gave you a grateful smile as he walked off. You walked out and saw Dr. Gaul with her back turned to you, laughing to herself, “Go watch the finale, my rose,” she said, now turning to you, “Say your silent goodbyes to your friend.”
You speedwalked into the room, finding Tigris, and sat next to her. She gripped your hand as your eyes were glued to the screen, praying the handkerchief trick worked. You watched as the youngest tribute, Wovey, walked towards the tank, not knowing it would be the last thing she saw. Soon the snakes broke the tank, and covered Wovey, charging towards the tributes.
“Not candy! Down goes Wovey.” Lucky Flickerman said and continued to announce the death of all the tributes until it all got to Lucy. You looked between the screen and Coriolanus. The snakes weren’t charging towards her, now slowly creeping. “It worked.” You said to yourself, letting out a sigh of relief. “She’s won, let her out.” Corio said. “Afraid that’s not your call to make, Mr. Snow.” Lucky Flickerman said and nodded to Dr. Gaul.
You suddenly heard Lucy start to sing, trying to calm the snakes. The way her voice took the room over, you could only imagine what her voice was doing to the other viewers. Between the snakes wrapping around her dress and her powerful voice, tears started to form in your eyes. By the end of her song, you could only hear the sound of her humming and your breath. Coriolanus now turned to Dr. Gaul, “Dr. Gaul, please, get her out.” He shouted. Tigris and you shared a brief look before you both yelled “Get her out!”
Soon the room started to fill with the refrain “Let her out” while looking at Dr. Gaul. She raised her hand, silencing the students who waiting for her answer. With a pointed look at you, she turned to a person next to her and said, “Let her out.” You didn't even hear Flickerman’s words as you hugged Tigris and she held you. Your classmates began to walk towards Coriolanus while you stayed by Tigris. “The games are as I predicted!” Lucky Flickerman shouted, tearing up his paper and releasing doves from his hands.
Amateur magician my ass.
Eventually, he broke through the crowd and found you two in the middle of the group, Tigris coming up and holding him first. After a moment, he came to you and you enveloped him into a hug. “You did it.” you whispered to him, feeling his hands squeeze you. The games were over, Coriolanus had won, and all would be well.
That afternoon, you were finishing up writing down notes of formulas Dr. Gaul assigned to you when Dean Highbottom walked in, “I assume your friend is ecstatic he won the games, as he should be.” You turned to him, taking in his tone of speech. “I find it strange, this relationship between you and Snow,” he said, “coming so close while only meeting in the Academy even though you both grew up close together, did you not?” You nodded in response, “We had mutual friends, we knew about each other, but didn't cross paths until the first day.”
“It’s been nice seeing you two help each other as best you could these years,” Highbottom said, “but I’m afraid it's come to an end, dear one.” For a second you couldn't speak, but you leaned forward. “It appears your friend slipped his songbird a compact mirror full of rat poison, assisting the kills of that sickly tribute as well as another,” Dean Highbottom said, making your blood run cold, “And a handkerchief with his father’s initials was found in the bottom of the snake bin, saving his tributes life in the end.”
You covered your mouth and cursed, “Goddamit Coryo.” you whispered to yourself, but you pulled yourself together. “So now what happens to the prize, who wins?” you asked, looking him in the eyes. “Well, as I said, cheating will be punished. Being a peacekeeper will be one suited for him I assume. As for the winner of the Hunger Games, I'm still deciding on that one.” he said, standing beside you. “In some ways, I say the viewers for having a show. In other ways, I say his songbird is a winner, she gets to live after all. But I would also say you as well.” Highbottom stated.
Now you were confused, “How do I win?” He shrugged, “You got the experience of the games, up close and personal. You, a capitol student, are now an apprentice to the Gamemaker of the Hunger Games, a survivor of a capitol bombing, and top of your class, why aren't you anything but a victor of these games?” Dean Highbottom asked. “Come on, you didn't think the public forgot your little act in the zoo already, apprentice? You made a little name for yourself without even realizing it,” He chuckled as he looked up at you, “I congratulate you.”
“For what?” you asked, looking at him. “Surviving Snow, and his games.” Highbottom said, looking past you and at Dr. Gaul who entered the room. “Why would I have to survive him?” you asked, but he shook his head. “Later, apprentice, your teacher calls.” he said, and walked out the same way he came. Dr. Gaul approached while carrying a clipboard, a teasing smirk on her face, “Death’s resounding bell tolls once more, the number of friends lost rises to four.” She then looked up, “One last thing, the snakes are getting a bit much for the rest of my assistants, help them out for me.”
You had gotten used to her random “side quest” as you called them, so you went out of the door, missing the cold and hard stare she gave you. When you approached the arena, you looked for the rest of the people.
Why was the arena empty?
That was when you heard it, the slither of snakes coming from all corners of the arena. “No…” you said to yourself, seeing snakes come from all the crevices of the arenas. You let out a scream and backed into a barrier. You began to climb the debris, ironically ending up in the same area Lucy Gray did. As the snakes wrapped around your legs, you held your breath, knowing it would be your last. You kneeled on the ground, letting your last moments of life looking at the sunset. Surprisingly, they only wrapped around your body but made no effort to harm you.
You kneeled there and watched as they swarmed your body, making a rainbow blanket over your body. For some reason, you laughed at the revelation of the handkerchief not only saving Lucy Gray but you as well. “I had a feeling my theory was correct.” You heard the voice of Dr. Gaul say. You looked at the camera pointing at you and sighed, “You knew I helped?” “I had a hunch, little rose, and I’m usually right about a lot of things.” She chuckled. “So now what, you gonna turn me over to Highbottom, turn me into an Avox?” You seethed, now having a rush of anger. “And let the newest gem of Panem go to waste, I’m not that cruel. The fact loverboy is going to the districts as a peacekeeper is punishment enough for you.” Dr. Gaul chuckled.
“No child, you shall go to 12, have a little vacation away from home.” She said as you slowly stood up, the snakes still all around you. “And do what, just stay there spinning the story to have me a permanent resident for cheating?” You shouted, looking at the camera. “No, you shall adapt. Pack a simple bag.” Dr. Gaul said, “And you shall see how blessed you were to prosper and grow in the Capitol, not in the districts like the snake you saved.” And fine the camera’s red light turned off. You sighed and slowly walked out of the arena, the snakes, surprisingly letting you move. You walked home as if you were marching in a funeral procession.
You hit the bed cried yourself to sleep, and packed your bag in the morning. Dr. Gaul made up the perfect fabricated story to your parents, and you didn’t protest, the fear of her ratting you out shutting you up. You got dressed, put your jacket on and you were on a train to the districts that early morning. The train ride might as well have been one to hell. With each tree going past you was only a reminder of being far away from home. You held your necklace in your hand, watching the greenery of the land pass you by.
When the train stopped, your face contoured into one of emptiness, the reality of your situation setting in. You were alone. No parents to vouch for you. No Sejanus to make you laugh and comfort you. No Coriolanus, you had to stop thinking about his situation to keep yourself from crying. As you held your bag tightly a dressed officer walked forward. “Gual’s student?” He asked you, to which you nodded in reply. “Welcome to District 12, this way.” He helped you into the back of a vehicle and sat in front of you.
“You’ll be shadowing and assisting the scientist in the laboratory. You have the freedom to explore, you’ll be here for a while.” He said, watching the coal miners pass you all by. “What is there to do?” You asked, looking at the buildings. The officer nodded, “There’s the Hob, group that calls themselves the Covey performs there.” Your eyes met his at the mention of “covey.” Lucy Gray was covey, so she would be here. “When do they perform?” you asked.
“I'm not sure, but hopefully soon.” he said as the car stopped in front of a building. You were coached throughout the day about the jabberjays, as well as what they were made for. Only in the late afternoon did you finally catch a break. Your hands ached from the pecks and bites of the jabberjays. You walked through the streets, hands in your pocket, taking in District 12. Birds were flying around, peacekeepers walking the streets, and someone calling your name.
Wait…
You froze and turned around, seeing a blonde girl looking at you, behind her was Lucy Gray. She immediately ran towards you and enveloped you in a hug. “You’re here,” She said, looking you up and down, “Why are you here?” “Gaul figured out I helped Coriolanus cheat during the games.” You said, and she came to a realization. “The snakes, that was you?” Lucy Gray asked, you nodded “yes.” She then hugged you once more, tighter this time than the last. You hugged her back as she asked, “What happened to Coriolanus?” Your breath hitched, and then you let it out, “He has to serve as a peacekeeper for his wrongdoings.” Her hands rubbed your shoulders, “How long does he have to serve?” You shook your head, trying not to cry, “I don’t know.” Your voice came out weak, your emotion taking over your voice.
“I’m so sorry-.” “Lucy Gray!” A voice yelled. Her expression immediately fell. “Piss off Billy!” The blonde girl who was with Lucy yelled. “Nobody’s talking to you, Ivory!” Billy yelled at the girl. “This was Maude Ivory” you realized, slowly breaking out of your trance. “Why don't you go torture another poor girl.” You shouted. Now his gaze turned to you.
“And who might you be?” Billy asked, looking you up and down. Well, shit. You didn't want people to find out you'd been sent here, lord knows how the district feels about the capitol. So you put on your best smile and sarcastic tone, “Calanthe Hemlock, and I'm so glad to meet such a waste of air like yourself.” Billy purses his lips before looking at Lucy again, “This conversation ain't over.” You three watched as he walked off before Maude Ivory looked at you, “Calanthe Hemlock huh? Where’d that name come from?” She asked. “The name “Calanthe” came from a close friend.” you explained, not missing the sorrowful look Lucy gave you. “Hemlock is one of my favorite shades of green.” You said and leaned on the building close to you.
“How long will you be here?” Lucy Gray asked, looking you in your eyes, Maude Ivory following the same movement. “I don’t know, could be weeks, could be months.” You said. Her face slows turned into a smile as she looked at Maude Ivory. “What’s that face for?” You asked. “This hell is gonna turn into a vacation.” Lucy said, sliding her arm on your back and walking you deeper into town. “You won’t have to live in your Capitol dollhouse, you can just be you.” Lucy Gray said, holding your hand and squeezing it. “Calanthe Hemlock, resident of District 12. No one knows your name, or your past, all they know is that you’re my friend.” She said.
As you watched the sunset over the trees your face slowly broke out into a smile. Calanthe Hemlock just stepped into the streets of District 12, and she was gonna have the time of her life while she had the time. The first week you still had your walls up, nervous about being alone in a new environment for the first time. By the second week, you were hanging out with Lucy every day, and by the third week, you almost forgot your birth-given name.
When Lucy Gray & Maude Ivory introduced you to their family in the Covey several weeks later, you wouldn't lie and say you were nervous. Those nerves were soon soothed by their kindness and acceptance of you. Turns out that risking your entire future for a friend ends up giving you more of them. They walked you through the woods until they came to a lake, and all rushed to jump in, all except Lucy Gray, who was watching you.
“What's wrong, Calanthe?” she asked. “I haven’t gone swimming in a while.” you said as you took your dress off. Lucy smiled softly, “Jump in or I'll shove you in myself.” She was gone in a second, jumping over the dock and into the waters. You sighed, “When in 12.” You said to yourself and ran down the dock, jumped up, and let the water cover you.
When the water ran out of your ears, The cheers of the covey filled them, chanting your name. You spent the afternoon swimming. When you all took a break, Luxy sat beside you in the grass. “I never got the chance to ask you, now did they find out you helped me?” Lucy Gray asked.
For a second, you were back in the area, the snakes slithering up your body and over your throat. You closed your eyes and took a deep breath before speaking. “Dr. Gaul, the game maker, told me I was helping the other lab assistants gather the snakes out of the arena. When I walked in I was the only one there, and the snakes swarmed me a minute later.”
Lucy Gray’s mouth fell open and closed before finally closing completely, “You know she’s an absolute nutjob right?” You nodded in response, looking out at the water. “Well, stand up. You're going out tonight.” Lucy said, grabbing your hands, and making you stand. “Where are we going?” you asked, letting her walk you down the trail. “You, Hemlock, are joining us in the Hob tonight.” Maude Ivory said, looking up at you.
You scoffed, “I didn't know I was the guest of honor.” “We’re playing tonight,” Barb Azure said, looking back at you, “and you’re dancing tonight.” You laughed, “I don’t have a choice, do I?” You asked, already knowing the answer. “Nope, now go on and kill some time, we’ll be looking out for ya.” Tam Amber said, giving you a playful wink as they walked ahead of you.
When the night was setting you took a quick shower and changed into a dress you packed and walked to the Hob. The dance was already in full swing, boots stomping on the floor and loud chatter filling the air.
A smile found its way upon your face, the change of scene is a complete 180 of the dancing you were used to, yet somehow more entertaining to see. Soon you were pulled into a dance, losing track of time and the worries being capitol fell away.
When the music stopped, you found yourself in the front, looking up at Maude Ivory. “Is it hot in here?” she yelled, you and the crowd yelling “yeah” in response. “Cause we’re plannin’ on heating it up a bet more. The one, the only, Lucy Gray Baird!” she shouted, and Lucy Gray came onto the stage. As she gave her small speech, she was given a bottle, you caught her gaze and she smiled.
“Everybody!” Lucy Gray suddenly yelled, to which the crowd responded, “Yeah!” “I'd like to give a special shoutout to my dear friend, someone who pioneered for my victory throughout the games. My dear friend Clanathe Hemlock!” She yelled, pulling you up on stage, the applause and whistles drowning out your nervous giggles. “Safe to say she's happy I survived.” Lucy Gray said, letting you back down. “Now, how about a song, huh?” Lucy Gray asked, and the music queued her in.
As soon as she started singing, you recognized the lyrics. It was the same song she sang at the reaping, but it sounded a whole lot better with the band. You then noticed she froze up on a lyrics and stopped dancing to follow her gaze, but you couldn't see who she was looking at. You did manage to see the smirk she gave shot you. That was when Billy waste of air Taupe broke through the crowd.
You turned and saw Billy Taupe shove a peacekeeper before getting shoved on his ass. You covered your mouth to laugh but that hand shot out to keep yourself between him and Lucy Gray. “Leave the girl alone, Taupe!” you yelled. His eyes met yours and all of a sudden you felt his hand slap the hell out of you, sending you back onto the stage.
The slap damn near knocked you out, but you got back up just in time to see a peacekeeper with blonde hair rush towards him, shouting “Don’t touch her.” You stood up and looked at the peacekeepers, and your eyes filled with tears as you recognized his eyes. Coriolanus was the one knocking the hell out of Billy Taupe. “Coryo stop!” you heard another familiar voice yell. “Nah get off me!” Coriolanus yelled, getting dragged away by Sejnaus. Why are you here? You watched Coriolanus look you in the eyes as your face broke into the biggest smile you ever smiled in your life.
You turned to Lucy Gray as she smiled back at you, “Well look who's here.” “You saw him when you stopped singing.” you said, putting two and two together. Her hand went to your cheek and sighed, ”Try and clean that up some, ‘Lanthe, don't want this on your record.” You rolled your eyes, “Shut up, before I make you my next test subject.” You joked. “Ya love me too much to do that.” Lucy Gray yelled as you walked away. “Unfortunately!” you shouted back, blowing her a kiss as you walked back to your barracks.
The next day the slap mark went down, but it still stung like hell. Pulling on your long sleeved dress and boots, you walked to the lunch hall. You heard from the other trainees you had the day off and immediately went to find Lucy. When you walked through town, you heard your name being called and saw Sejanus running towards you. You wrapped your arms around him and let out a laugh, “What are you doing here!” “Once I found out where Coryo was going, I followed close behind. I wasn't expecting you to be here.” Sejanus said.
Your hand ran over his hair, and you pouted. “I’m gonna miss your hair.” You said, making him chuckle. “Coriolanus was looking for you earlier,” Sejanus said, making your eyes widen. His eyes took in your expression, and he smiled softly. “You don't know how loved you are, Calanthe.” He said, smoothing out your hair before sighing. “It's nice to get away from the capitol, isn't it?” you asked, Sejanus nodding “yes” in response.
His gaze soon went behind you, and he rubbed your shoulders, “I gotta go, I’ll catch up with you later.” Sejanus gave you a short smile and then walked off. You sighed, wondering who he went to talk to as you walked around. The grass hitting the skirt of your dress. You saw a familiar figure walking through the grass and your heart jumped. Before you knew it, you broke out in a run towards him. “Coryo!” you yelled, a smile breaking your face open.
He turned and mirrored your smile, walking towards you as well. You opened your arms to bring him into a hug, which he was pulled into the second you got to him. His arms held you to his chest, so close you could almost hear his heartbeat. For the first few minutes, neither of you said a word. It wasn't until he broke the silence, “Why are you here?” Coriolanis asked. “Gaul found out I helped you, and I was sent to 12 the next day.” You saw his face flash from anger to confusion to worry.
“Your parents don't know the truth, do they?” He asked, making you shake your head “No”. Coriolanus then sighed, “It's nice to know you're here.” His eyes went to yours, to your lips, to your necklace, and then right back to your lips. “No capitol. Dr. Gaul can't control us.” He whispered, leaning towards you. His nose brushed yours, making you stand still. “We’re free, Calanthe, for once.” Coriolanus added.
You had gotten used to being called by that name, but nothing could ever beat the name coming from his lips. You hadn't realized how close he was to your face until his breath hit your lips. Looking up at him, your hands found the back of his head, and then his cheek, before resting on it. He closed his eyes for a second, soaking in the comfort of your touch. “When I was on the train, I almost wanted them to shoot me.” he said, now opening his eyes. “Why, Coryo?” you asked.
“I’d rather go through the games as a tribute than stay away from you.” He whispered, making a tear fall down your face. His hand came to wipe it away with his thumb, but his hand remained on your face. You didn't know when, but the moment changed with a soft gust of wind. Like magnets, your lips found each other in a passionate kiss. Bottled-up emotions come forth to be put into the moment. His hands went down to your waist pulling you to him and holding you there.
You wrapped one arm around his neck and one on his cheek deepening the kiss, making him chuckle. He didn't verbally respond, but he kept kissing you like he would never see you again, and you weren’t complaining. All memories of the games, you being sent to 12 faded away with every second of his kisses. This was all that mattered now.
Coriolanus Snow was here. Dr. Gaul and her meddlesome ways weren't. And right now you were kissing the boy you loved in a field of flowers; what more could you want? If Dr. Gaul wanted you to adapt, you would do as she asked: After you lived a little.

How would Snow be like as a boyfriend:
be so fr, he's possessive and gaslights and lies and will manipulate to the high heavens,
he wants you only for himself (say no more) but it gets borderline crazy when he thinks only he can look at you and if there was another set of eyes on you, boy is feral,
he's not jumping to conclusions, he's leaping for the Olympics,
imagine in the capitol university and you're walking together in the halls or something, arm in arm and he sees a boy's gaze lingering on you. this man's arm TIGHTENS around your waist and his head would follow the boy, sending him death glares all the way down the hall,
he promised never to fall in love again after lucy grey, but this man craves love and to be adored,
because he doesn't want to love, he'd never show that he did love you. but he would show everyone that you were his and he was yours, an arm around your waist, arms linked, passionate kisses before and after classes just because he knows he can, absolutely,
and because you belong to each other, he'd never cheat. he's way to respectable for that,
he would only go after someone of high standard and never allow you to know he was once 'dirt poor',
he wouldn't be one to give you flowers (even if his grandmam can literally grow an entire garden of them) but he would 100% buy you pretty things to wear:
'here's this dress, made by the finest designer in the capitol. wear it tonight'
'a gold necklace worth some people's rent, never take it off'
he'd probably keep you away from everyone, like tigris and dr gual because they would show two different sides to him. a boy or a victor and he wants you to think whatever you want about him (but preferably don't think of him as a monster and contemplate leaving him)
speaking about leaving, he would never allow you to break up with him,
but he wouldn't break up with you,
like i said, he doesn't want to fall in love, so if he breaks his own rules for you then best believe you're in that for life,
you have an argument and want to walk out on him? think again. he's sitting you down and telling you why you'll never be rid of him,
and argument wise, he's above arguing, he'll show you he's always right and why,
but if you must insist on arguing he will, but he'll gaslight you,
and if you're ever hurt or upset about something serious, he will sort it out. i'm talking killing a man for hurting you or wiping out an entire system because it upsets you,
you're his and it is his responsibility to look after you and make sure you're ok,
(p.s. he totally whimpers)

Word count- 910 I think I added to it a little lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They got to the arena and Y/N stiffened as she looked around, leaning on Coryo.
He softly pulled away and looked down at her. “Stay here okay? I’ll be back.”
“Are you kidding?” She asked. “I’m going with you!”
“Love, you’ve already been hurt a lot. I’m not going to let you risk yourself anymore.”
“But what about you?”
“I’ll be okay. I’ll be right out with Sejanus. Just stay here.” He kissed her head and walked away.
“Enjoy the show,” Y/N heard as Coryo walked in. She couldn’t take it anymore, before the peace keepers could close the gate she went in too. “Enjoy the show.”
Coryo turned and saw Y/N close behind him. “What are you doing?” Coryo whispered, walking over to her. “I told you to wait there.”
“I couldn’t leave you.” Y/N explained, looking up at him with tears in her eyes. “I can’t lose you.”
Coryo let out a breath as he saw the tears in her eyes, looking around to make sure they were safe for now. “Just stay right next to me.” He ordered, wrapping his arm around her and holding her close as they walked to Sejanus.
“I thought they’d send my ma.” Sejanus let out.
“Yeah, I wish they had.” Coryo let out.
“You need to go, Coryo, Y/N.”
“I’d like to. I really would. I want to get Y/N out of here. But I promised I’d get you out.”
“Why?”
“Because you’re our friend.” Y/N replied.
“I have to do this. I had to go where the cameras are.”
“You think anyone’s watching this?” Coryo let out. “Gaul cut the feed. Tributes kill you in here, she’s just gonna say you died of the flu.” They heard a metallic sound and Y/N leaned more into Coryo, as he looked around and tightened his grip on her. “You need to decide right now. Do you wanna fight these tributes, or do you wanna fight for them? Because if you wanna make a real change, you need to stay alive to do it.”
“How can I make a change from out there?”
“You’re rich,” Y/N explained. “Smart. You care. You’re the only one who stood up to Gual in that class, right?”
The sound got closer and Coryo and Y/N got more tenses.
“We’re dead if we don’t leave right now,” Coryo explained. “Come with us. Spend your fathers money, do some real good. Or just be another dead body in Gaul’s war.”
“Please,” Y/N begged, not wanting to watch another classmate die. “Trust us.”
“I-“ Sejanus started but was cut off by a yell and someone running at them.
“Go! Go!” Coryo yelled, squeezing Y/N’s hand as they all three ran. Y/N was wheezing trying to breath, but her lung injury was making things a lot worse. “Run!”
Sejanus screamed as he fell down trying to make it over the terminal. Y/N couldn’t breathe anymore and struggled to hold on. “Come on, get up! To the gate!”
Y/N tried to get Coryo’s attention but she couldn’t breathe, let alone make a noise. Before she knew it, her hand slipped and she fell to the ground trying to breathe as the boy (Bobbin) was running to her.
“Y/N!” Coryo called, turning around, seeing her pale face as she tried to breathe and get away. He went running to her.
Y/N looked at him with fear and tears in her eyes as he grabbed a wooden stick. “I don’t wanna hurt you,” Coryo let out.
The boy tried to attack Y/N but was stopped by Coryo hitting him until he fell. Y/N watched as Coryo hit him again and again until the little boy fell to his death. And then she watched something take control of her love as he hit the boy again. Sejanus looked terrified of Coryo but Y/N was thankful for him.
“Y/N!” Coryo whispered as he got to Y/N. “Did he hurt you?”
Y/N shook her head and looked up at him, tears in her eyes. “I want to go home.”
“I know.” He let out. They heard a noise and looked up to see Carol and her group coming at them ready to kill. “Can you move and breathe?”
“I can now.”
“Okay,” Coryo let out, helping you up and over the terminal, looking at Sejanus. “Come on, get up!”
They went running as Coral and her group gained up on them. Y/N let out a shriek as she fell to the ground in pain.
“Y/N!” Coryo yelled, picking her up and running to the gate. “Open the gate! Open the gate!” Coryo let out a groan when he felt something impale his shoulder.
The gates opened and the three quickly got out.
“Watch those screens gorgeous,” Coral let out. “‘Cause I may have missed you tonight, but your songbird’s next on my list.”
“Coryo,” Y/N breathed.
“I’m right here,” he breathed, putting her down. “What happened?”
“My leg,” she trimble, looking down at her leg to see a dagger stuck in it, blood seeping out.
“I’m… I’m sorry.” Sejanus let out. “Coryo, Y/N, I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry. For all of it.” A car pulled up and Sejanus watched as his parents got out. “My father. Let the buying begin. “Ma! I had to do something.” He cried running to his mother.
Y/N looked back at her bleeding leg then back to Coryo and noticed that his shoulder was also bleeding. “Coryo, your shoulder.” She trembled. “It’s bleeding.”

Everyone tries to compare the characters from TBOSBAS to Katniss and Peeta, because we like to try and draw literary parallels & analyze and find meaning where there may or may not be. And I feel like that kind of detracts from all the characters. We try to fit them in a box by saying “so-and-so is just like so-and-so!” When in reality all the characters are so drastically different. Sure, Peeta and Lucy Gray were the performers. Sure, Lucy Gray and Katniss were the singing mockingjays from the seam. Sure, Sejanus and Katniss both pushed against the Capitol control. Sure, Jessup and Peeta were the gentle protectors, who got hurt and needed nursed. We could go on and on and on, but (to me at least) it feels like trying to shove puzzle pieces together that don’t fit but still make up part of the same picture. Yeah there’s similarities, but the differences seem to outweigh them, so saying they’re parallels for each other just doesn’t seem fair to the complexities of their characters. It strips them of their background and the meaning and impact that they serve in their individual stories. I think we see the few nods and foreshadowing Collins throws at us for the original trilogy, and we immediately want to say everything is symbolic of each other, because history and art repeat themselves, & perhaps the idea of Snow reliving everything he went through when he was 16 is a satisfying twist for a corrupt character. But the truth is it is its own story.
HOWEVER- I’d still like to offer my own spin/parallel, just for shits & giggles.
I don’t think I’ve seen anyone mention how similar GALE is to SNOW. Again, far from a perfect fit, but there’s a lot about Snow and Lucy Gray’s story that reminds me of Gale and Katniss.
Gale seems to view Katniss as belonging to him; he’s possessive, and jealous of Peeta. He wants Katniss where he knows she’s safe. He is the cage, and she is the bird. Just like Snow is Lucy Gray’s cage, not wanting her to be free, but rather his. In control, belonging to him, and jealous of even the idea of another man or thing in Lucy Gray’s life (man gets jealous of a fucking goat, thinking it could be a person, let alone Billy Taupe). Additionally, despite Snow and Gale seeming to be on completely opposite sides of the spectrum (Snow is 100% for the Capitol, & Gale is 100% against the Capitol), they seem to value the same things. They want power. They want control. They want attention and recognition. Gale goes searching for that in the form of joining the rebellion and it’s highest ranks. He helps develop and plan bombs with little to no regard of the civilians they might kill, literally telling Katniss that it’s a price worth paying, an eye-for-an-eye type thing. He buddies up with President Coin (who, we could say, for parallel sake, represents evil & tyranny and totalitarianism, like Dr. Gual). Snow does it in the way of sucking up to anyone and everyone he can (Dr Gual, Mr Plinth) in the name of gaining positive recognition & money (or whatever else he might want) & constantly playing politics. He also shows little regard over the deaths of others. He kills Bobbin, and doesn’t seem haunted by that whatsoever, just sees it as a stain on his name. When faced with the possibility of having to open fire on the civilians of district 12 when they show anger at a hanging, his first thought is “do I remember how to shoot a gun?” and not “I don’t want to kill people”. Both of them fawn over a girl who is quite clearly not theirs, nor anything close to a “perfect match”.
By no means am I saying Gale is as bad as if not worse than Snow; we don’t know Gale’s inner thoughts and workings, and he does seem to act out of the kindness of his heart & show selfless qualities, and he’s not nearly as controlling and possessive when it comes to Katniss as Snow is to Lucy Gray (at the end of the day, Gale cares about Katniss being happy- Snow cares about Lucy Gray being his). But I think the comparison is interesting to consider regardless, and I haven’t seen anyone talk about it. :)

~.•*”They’re not animals though, they’re kids. Just like you and me.”*•.~
📜~ Sejanus Plinth.~* District two.
💉~personality: Sejanus has a burning spirit and hunger for justice, that can easily lead to rash decisions and sticky situations. He can be a bit foolish, and doesn’t quite think over what he is doing to himself when the demand to say against the Capitol and help those in need take’s over. Sejanus is deeply empathetic, wanting to help those back in the districts. He is not afraid to say against the games infront of everybody, it doesn’t matter how far he take’s it, if he thinks he’s doing the right thing.
💉~background: Sejanus grew up back in district 2, going to the local school, until the year he turned eight when him and his family got moved up to the Captiol due to his pa’s contribution to the Capitol under the war. Sejanus pleaded to not go, to stay, with his friends and everything he knew since he was a child. Though it was no use, he started the academy, where he got bullied relentlessly cause of his origins and beliefs. That did not stop Sejanus, it’s worth it if you are standing up for what is right.
💉~appearance: Dark curly hair, big, deep brown eyes. A tall and pretty slim frame. Some acne scars around his cheekbones and rough hands.
💉Hc’s: Sejanus laugh is really soft, usually voice cracks in his laugh aswell. Has the worst habit of biting nails so his nails always look like a reck. Fidgets with his academy tie all the time (his pa tells him to hold still but he never follows). Allergic to oranges and pineapple. Long walks in nature, especially after it rained is his favourite. Has a hard time sleeping.
💉~ Likes: His family, Coryo, district 2, bonding with people, not feeling alone, crunchy leafs, being able to help people, his “friends” in two, deers, nature when it’s quiet, standing up for what’s morally right, being able to help the right side of Panem.
💉~Dislikes: Satin clothes, Dr Gual, the Capitol, injustice, innocent people dying, feeling guilty, feeling stuck and like he can’t do anything to help, betrayal, broken relationships, seeing his ma sad, Dean Casca Highbottom, his pa (certain situations), how wet clothes feel on his body, frizzy curls, pears, burning hot showers.

Young Snow is definitely in my opinion still a budding psychopath (and narcissist) but isn’t completely unredeemable. It’d take a lot of self work for him to be a quote on quote “good person.” Especially since a lot of his actions (befriending sejanus and lucy) were rooted in the fact that it would bring him more power. Which is why I really liked the bit where Dean Highbottom tells him how convenient it is that he doesn’t have to choose between winning the money and saving Lucy (choosing between power or love). It also makes the scene where Sejanus dies even worse. Because in the books you get the feeling that Snow couldn’t care less about Sejanus. Whereas in the movie you can tell he cares about him. He snitches on him to Dr. Gaul but as he’s being executed Snow cries, showing he still has a bit of humanity and emotion in him. All in all he’s a really fascinating character in the way that he’s truly willing to do whatever it takes to remain in power (poisoning himself in order to poison others, killing children, and selling people into lives of forced prostitution) and that’s something that’s rare in a book. There’s no overly tragic backstory to somehow excuse his behavior, nor is there anyone forcing him into situations he’d rather not be in.
Full disclosure, outside of a couple of quotes I have not read any of the Hunger Games books so I can't comment on Snow's book characterization.
Although, I have heard that young book!Snow is a little bit more malicious than young movie!Snow(particularly with the Sejanus situation).
That being said I'm a firm believer that evil isn't born it’s made. Under different circumstances, Snow could’ve been better(if his grandmother wasn’t constantly reminding him that he had to live up to his father's name, and social pressure, or if Dr. Gual hadn’t taken him under her wing).
However, yeah he had free will. He chose to put his ambitions first over love, friendship, and even family(what he would later do to Tigris after everything she did for him was so messed up).
Ultimately Snow loves power more than anything else. He loved Lucy Gray IMO, just not as much as he wanted to be someone. In the movie, he did like having Sejanus as a friend just not as much as he liked getting back on top.
That line Highbottom says to him is brilliant. Snow does seem to only care about people as long as they are useful to him and then promptly discards them. Which was his downfall.
That and his obsessive nature, but the obsession drives his want for power. It was fun to see the makings of the villain we see in the main series. He really is a fascinating magnetic character that you can get sucked into.
Lol, I can’t take credit for this, but @nettlesdefensesquad said Coriolanus Snow was a twisted version of Daemon Targaryen. If Young!Snow chose love (like Daemon did with Nettles) instead of ambition that’s who he’d be, but if that had happened the Hunger Games would’ve looked different/maybe would’ve ceased to exist.
Analysis aside, Lucy Gray is better than me. I’m not going to lie, I’d probably miss all of the warning signs and be like Yes Daddy to whatever Young!Snow said. I mean look at him:
Tumblr media
He’d have me hook, line, and sinker. I'm not even ashamed to admit it. For that reason, I probably wouldn’t survive the games(well I would if I was useful to him) or him, but it would be fun while it lasted🤣
Not the games. The games would not be fun. I would be absolutely petrified the entire time I'm in the arena, but the rest would be bliss☺️

The Act Of Being Naive Blog Post 2
Tumblr media
Once the tributes are dumped in the cage like a zoo after the reaping, the initial reaction from the audience to the district people disgusts me. I know they have been raised to believe they are “dangerous” and “barbaric”, but they should not be treated or looked at as anything lesser because they live in the districts. That is why I love Sejanus Plinth’s character so much because he has been a part of the districts and knows that they are people too. For some context, the Plinth family once lived in the districts but got placed in the capitol to serve them. Sejanus has seen it all and knows the Hunger Games are wrong and I think that is why he doesn't fear calling out the wrong people like Dean Highbottom (lead game maker) and Dr. Gaul (headmaker and oversees the mentorships). That is something I hope I can do, even when no one agrees but I know it is the right thing to do, I hope I can make a difference. When the tributes get dumped in the zoo arena, the Capitol adults and children are watching them and are a little scared to approach them. Being presented in a way after the reaping in the zoo makes the people look like animals. In reality, they are people who love and lose just like a person in the Capitol.
As I was reading I found it interesting how much Coriolanus cared to make a good impression on Lucy Gray. I honestly think this might go deeper than winning the plinth prize because the way he thinks and expresses his thoughts about her feels more like infatuation. Everything she represents from her singing to her starkey attitude is something he has never seen before, she symbolizes freedom and difference. Personally, I strive to be with someone who is different from me because they can bring out the best in me, but I don’t know if the same goes for the Capitol because it could be considered a threat. I really like the dynamic of Coryo and Lucy Gray because they are so different yet also the same because they struggle with finding purpose. He goes out of his way to learn things about her and realizes she is a person too. He sees her differently and I really think that is going to set up future conflict. He is doing all this endearment towards her because he wants to win the plinth prize or he wants her.
I can’t explain my hatred towards Dr. Gual, she is weird and has a fascination with being really creepy.
I don’t like how Coriolanius is using Sejanus for his friendship and making him believe they are friends. If I found out someone was using me best believe we wouldn't be friends anymore. Sejanus is such a good person who truly has a good heart. I think Coriolanus knows that and uses his kindness for granted. You would think something so deadly like the Hunger Games you would want a friend to be there for you when things got bad.
Clemnisia gives me fake girl vibes, that's all I have to say about her.
At the end of chapter 6, I was screaming. CORIOLANUS IS IN LOVE WITH LUCY GRAY, I am calling it right now. Coriolanus gave Lucy Gray his personal handkerchief to wipe her tears!!!!! Like are you kidding me, you can’t tell me that he doesn't like her. I think she is very fond of him too, especially when she tells him she wished they meant differently. In this generation you could never get that from a boy unless they were absolutely in love with that girl. Now of course this is different because she is fighting for her life, but still it means a lot that Coriolanus cares for Lucy Gray.

It has been close to a week now since I have finished TBOSAS. It is not as vivid as I would like it to be, as I have cracked the spines of other books and have drunk deep from their pages.
However, here is an image that reminds me of one of the more intriguing characters in the book.

"Yes, the lack of law, that was the heart of it. So people needed to agree on laws to follow. Was that what Dr. Gual had meant by 'social contract'? The agreement not to rob, abuse, or kill one another? It had to be. And the law required enforcement, and that was where control came in. Without the control to enforce the contract, chaos reigned."

naming in songbirds and snakes
authors note: it is 1 am and this is unbataed, apologies for any spelling or grammar errors.
the hunger games is known for its outrageous, futuristic names; one of my favorite pieces of the series. this post does a beautiful job analyzing the names that appear in the original trilogy and categorizing them into 4 different categories. but that post is a little old and we’ve just recently got a lot more content (and names) to pick apart and analyze.
researching these names reminds me how everything suzanne includes in her novels is intentional. she doesn’t pick random names because they sound good but because they mean something. i think that’s important to remember while reading this series. it’s definitely something i will keep in mind during my next reread of the trilogy.
i didn’t cover every name in tbosas. if there’s a name you have thoughts about, reblog and let me know.
potential tbosas spoilers and long post under the cut
names will be divided into capitol and tribute (district) names
capitol
capitol names take many influences from ancient roman and greek names, but they also tell the story of the character. i will only be discussing major characters, not all will be mentioned.
coriolanus: snow’s first name largely has to do with his story. from the play coriolanus by shakespeare, meaning “conqueror of corioli,” a heroic roman solider, caius marcius, gains his name from a victory at corioli. when he leads the attack on corioli, it does not go well. but he keeps fighting and returns to rome victorious. he brings glory to rome and his mother volumnia. basically summing up his whole story. he tries to lead an ‘attack’ (him trying to win the games) but that fails. he’s reduced to a peacekeeper but he still doesn’t stop trying to be something greater. he wins in the end. he goes back to the capitol, attends university and is mentored dr. gaul.
which brings me to...
dr. volumnia gaul: dr. gaul’s name has two parts. one representing her relationship with snow. the other representing her relationship with panem. volumnia is the mother of caius marcus in shakespeare’s play, coriolanus. volumnia, in the play, uses caius as a means of securing personal prestige aka using snow’s ideas in her games. she wants her games to be better, the best. and she uses snow for that. gaul was also a roman province that embarrassed rome (read: gual’s games not being popular, things going wrong, etc.). but unlike gual, dr. gual was not stop/conquered by panem/rome.
sejanus plinth: sejanus was a close friend and ally of roman emperor tiberius who worked to improve conditions for the empire. he was also strangled to death. sejanus plinth was unable to change anything before his death by hanging. a plinth can be looked at in two different ways. @hutchhitched described it as a platform—a place someone can take a stand and deliver a message. it can also be looked at as a means for climbing. social climbing, if you will. the main ambition of the plinths.
strabo plinth: a wealthy philosopher who allied with the romans and was granted roman citizenship as a reward. seems familiar? plinth: see sejanus.
crassus snow: crassus was a roman general who played a key role in the transformation of the roman republic into the roman empire. just like his namesake, crassus snow was known for his military experience and wrote the proposal for the hunger games, successfully transforming panem into what we know today.
tributes
typically, tributes have names that reflect the industry of their district. there are a few exceptions to this; including sabine, ginnee, jessup and lucy gray baird.

M. S. F. Chapter 7 Kiss
Her lips tingle with anticipation. She doesn’t know what to do with her hands and they flutter between them until he lifts them up and kisses them. Her breath and heart seem to stop before restarting with a gasp and a gallop.
He feels it too. The breathless moment before their lips make contact. Like the world around them stills and holds it's breath. The skin under his lip, her fingertips, are softened by the lotion they are constantly using but toughened by her trade. He kisses all around, soothing the calluses and hard planes by the softness of his own lips.
“Please!” it beats through her blood. Does he feel what she is to shy, to overwhelmed to say, in her racing pulse. “Oh please.” He looks up and meets her eyes. She finds the same desperation reflected there. What is this between them? What is this draw, stronger then anything she had ever felt?
“I ken.” In the heat that flows between them, his English is lost and he reverts to Ghaildhig. He lays her hands on his chest where she immediately fists them to his shirt. He cups her face. “Mo gual.” He whispers as the raising sun warms them, he finally touches her lips.
She, who had her first kiss at ten, at a camp sort of like this one, thought she had experienced everything a kiss could offer. She is wrong. Her hands tighten on the cotton of his shirt as the feel of his lips send her reeling. Every other kiss she had ever had in her life, combined, didn’t have the power of Jamie’s. The scruff of his beard contrasted very well with the softness of his lips and the roughness of his hands, that help hold her up. She hears herself whimper as the sensation of his tongue, running across her lips, is added. An invitation she gladly accepts.
To kiss her! Ah Dhai! He had dreamed of it, almost since their eyes first meet. But the reality. She smells of mint and tastes of cloves. Her hungry hands feel so incredible against his chest. Her lips move as eager as his own, matching and anticipating, every step. When she opens for him and her tongue meets his, he feels like he might burst into flames. His groan joins hers. They melt together in a symphony as his hands come down and slide down, to her back and then her bum, pressing her closer.
Holy bloody hell! She had never been this turned on by a kiss. As he presses her closer, she feels he is reacting the same way. Christ, he is hard as stone! She has to remind herself that they are in public so she can't do more then this, as much as they both want it. She moves against him, seeking a completion that is impossible right now.
“Drs. Fraser and Beauchamp,. Sorry to intrude but we need you.” Joe's voice finally penetrates the haze of want that surrounds them. They break apart and she can’t look up. Her head rests against his pounding chest.
“Joe, ah.. we…” Jamie stumbles to try to explain.
“Hey don't mind. God knows we must be about something to relieve the tension. Kiss, have sex, marry, have kids, if you wish. But, right now we need you. Have some new potential patients. Catch your breath and get geared up.”
She lifts her head and meets his eyes. He smiles, kisses her forehead and the tip of her nose. “Shall we?”
“Patients and then?”
“Oh aye.”
