rambling.
i don't know if it's just me but hope peak labeling Xander as an "ultimate rebel" feels soooo insanely shady of them to do and so backhanded. like can i- we just talk about that for a moment. i Think too much. one could argue that they used a term with simpler meaning such as 'rebel' to refer to his activism and revolutionist work for the general public to digest the complexity & heaviness of what he stands for & does while getting the gist of what he specializes in.
thing is that this term has negative connotations which are usually heightened when applied to young adults and teenagers. typically this term is attached to an certain appearance and how the behavior affects others more than what is being said itself. that way when it is applied to people, it is used as as a way to dismiss their genuine criticisms of the status quo. it's assumed they're not justified to feel so strongly about criticizing norms in society because of it's heavy association with young people and as i've mentioned, how it makes others feel when you are critical of norms.
using the words "revolutionist" and "activist" may be uncomfortable but at least it directly tells you the complexity going behind his work and perhaps beliefs. yet using "rebel" is such an interesting word to describe his work, as it appears more like Hope peak is undermining his work & beliefs and calling him a trouble maker at once. even more so as he is a pretty young person himself, it is assumed by the story that he is a fresh adult going into college and finally facing the real world.
if hopes peak is willing to treat his work and activism like this, there is the question to why let him be in college in the first place? why bother accepting a student like this if they're aware that he will be a reflection of the school. hope's peak actions make the title of his more suspicious, specifically their cover-ups. i can't help but interpret Xander's presence in the college being thought of because Hope's peak wanted him into the school hoping that he could be "tamed" or perhaps watched, while taking advantage of his image by making the school appear "progressive" than it is.
there are various of possibilities to why Hope peak even got the thought in the first place, i have a few but this post is going on too long and i need to sleep. i don't know what to end this post at because these are just random thoughts i got.
as much as Hope's peak is very suspicious and calculated, his ultimate title seems unnecessarily damn petty to the point it's kind of funny.

To lack, daresay reject inspiration is to lack a desire that drives your actions, or worse — have a desire, yet refusing to acknowledge it for it contradicts the script you've been given. That said, within your tenacity you've long found an alternative source of fuel: you must, and therefore you will.
Such a pity. Try to fight it, but it seems you're stuck in a role you've got no say in until the very last breath you take.
I cannot help you.

random Rose headcanon(s)
Other than my headcanon that her hair is damaged due to the random, drastically wavier strands in her curly/coily hair and her depression...
Her voice being robotic has been so interesting to me. I assume that she's around professionals a lot as they've had a heavy influence on her life, thus I headcanon robotic tone as a result from code switching a lot. In business, it's quite common to change your vocab and even your voice. It's occurred so much to the point that her fake accent & vocab almost has dominated her real accent & vocab now. I also think this bit of information would tie nicely with her character revolving around being trapped; she is a character who is very passive in breaking free from the organization which now "owns" her creativity. Her accent, voice and vocab being mostly from code-switching could also reference how professions dominate her life and humanity.
She hardly remembers what she was like before. More like she doesn't want to remember Haha.

I think it’s fine to have headcanons for your favorite ships but if the dev themselves made a statement about their own characters sexuality/orientation then you shouldn’t make jokes about disrespecting that canon.
As someone who is an Unlabeled person, I’m really grateful that Teruko Tawaki is also unlabeled and sports that flag. It’s representation that I’m grateful for because unlabeled characters aren’t very well known in media at all.
My point is. Please don’t bash canon representation because you don’t agree with it. They aren’t your characters.
It’s fine to have your own headcanons, takes, what have you but at the end of the day. Canon is canon.
I get annoyed too when people conveniently erase the fact that David is Bi but not open with his feelings about that fact. That is incredible representation because growing up it is how I felt about my relationship with labels since I didn’t understand my feelings.
DRDT is aimed at an older crowd that’s on the cusp of when LGBTQIA+ wasn’t widely accepted or even legal like it is now.
So representations like Nico being closet NB, David being a repressed and conflicted bisexual man as well as Teruko choosing to be explicitly unlabeled is incredibly important representation that shouldn’t be ignored or overwritten just because you don’t agree with the creators narrative.
My point isn’t to pick a fight with anyone, mind you. I am genuinely just asking you to consider why Dev has written their characters in the way that they have and that it should be respected.

Now that the date for part twos release is edging closer and closer, i think i should mention this:
Please PLEASE be normal about the characters.(ironic i know, but listen to me)
For a whole year, we have had nothing but fanfiction and headcanon to base our perception of the characters off of, do you know how long that is?? of course when the episodes release, theres gonna be a huge chance that characters might not behave how we expect them to.
Please dont get mad or angry that a character isnt fitting your expectations of how their arc is going, whether its its pacing, direction, or just writing in general.
Fanfiction is at the end of the day, fanfiction! its probably not going to fit the canon , and thats okay!! just dont let it alter your perception of this show. We dont want another digital circus problem on our hands, especially in a community as small as this where news and drama spreads like wildfire. just... please be mindful.
(this post is NOT saying you shouldn't criticize the show for aspects it does poorly! please dont read it like that)

just a random thought We know for a fact from how he talks about J that Arturo's standards when it comes to beauty (and also just people in general) are heavily traditionally gendered
(x) Arturo: See, it's crass behavior like this that I really don't understand. You had all the influence of Mariabella as a parent, so why have you become so boyish and rude? Arturo: No worries. I'll do my best to transform you into a proper lady befitting of your family name.
I can't help but wonder if Arturo's choice to call Levi a 'whore' specifically out of all insults is due in part to Levi's gender presentation Whore, from my understanding anyway, is an insult mostly used towards women (sexually-active women especially). And Levi is someone who, though not outright feminine in terms of clothing, doesn't really present himself in a traditionally masculine way (his earrings, his painted nails, his colors). There's a reason why most people (including me) who watch DRDT for the first time mistake Levi for a woman
And if J's current appearance is 'boyish' to Arturo, I highly doubt Levi fits his standards of masculinity. Which is why he used 'whore' out of all insults towards him ...maybe. I'm just thinking out loud here.

I saw people headcanoning Veronika as a horror/true crime YouTuber, and figured I'd show what I think Ace would make if he were a YouTuber.
He makes videos where he rants for hours about the things he hates (infinite content, he hates a lot of things). His videos include a surprising amount of research and occasionally, some rather good and intriguing points. It's mostly him just being irrationally angry towards things, though haha. He's not super popular or anything, but he's got a few people who find his ramblings entertaining.
