Back, Sort Of?
Howdy all! Most of you probably weren't expecting me to update this blog again but I wanted to make a new post that expresses my future intents for this blog. To put it shortly, I'm back. With some caveats.
First off, I'm ditching the former username for my sona's likeness. As much as I'm attached to 'gameaddict30' as an alias it's also had some awkward and rough history around these parts, not to mention I feel more at home with a username that pretty much has me like *"Hey, that's me!" I've changed quite a bit since then too, so I feel like starting again on a cleaner slate.
Secondly, this isn't a guarantee that I'll be posting here often. I've come back here mostly after some realization about how a good handful of peeps I know are migrating to this site and how I... Well, pretty much want to stay in touch with everyone I know here, haha. With Tumblr possibly having ActivityPub on their roadmap, things could change in the future but I'll just have to play it by ear for now.
Furthermore, I'm going to comb through my Following list so it's tidier. Dead blogs and waning interests, mostly. Don't worry though, it's not like I've gotten tired of Sonic or the Dreamcast, heh. And please don't take it personally if I unfollow you out of the blue, just trying to have a less cluttered timeline.
Anyways, a lot of you following this blog probably remember when I posted the story about my DreamPi setup long ago! Some things have changed since then, as I've gotten not only a new computer desk + chair but a new media cabinet! More importantly, though, I've upgraded the USB modem to one that has a built-in Line Voltage Inducer. I thank pcwzrd13 of Dreamcast Live for providing this modded USB modem! No more having to swap out 9-volt batteries every now and then, heh.
Tumblr media
Finally, my presence outside of Tumblr. On the offchance that I stop updating this blog unannounced, I'll create a masterpost where I'll list all of my active socials and websites. I'll get around to that very shortly, but you should probably follow me on these sites aside from Tumblr! I'm a lot more active on some of them; lately Twitter, Mastodon and Cohost. Though some weird stuff has been going on with the former, so you may see me flock to the latter two a little more often.
Oh, and I nearly forgot! I'm retiring the CNAME records for this blog and my art blog, so now you will see the subdomain for both blogs with Tumblr's root domain, effective immediately. I currently do not have any future plans to reuse blog.sertimus.xyz and/or art.blog.sertimus.xyz.
That said, I hope you all are having a wonderful night tonight! Nice to see you all again. :>

do you use dreamcast online?
like with the DreamPi to get DC back online? I have not but would love to eventually, hbu? I know Fightcade as of a couple years ago started supporting Sega Naomi games then some Dreamcast fighters so I've been stoked with those but I'd like to see the net only features some DC games had like Sonic Adventure's seasonal DLC stuff.

Chu Chu Rocket (Dreamcast, 2000)
This puzzle game by Sonic Team was the first European Dreamcast release to offer online play. Sega Europe gave it away for free to encourage players to get online - the game became the standard pack-in with new Dreamcast consoles, while existing owners could fill out a form on Dreamarena to claim their copy.
The single-player puzzle mode gives you a limited number of directional tiles, which must be used to guide your mice safely past the cats and into the rockets. It's possible to create your own puzzles and upload them to the online servers for other players to try.
The multiplayer mode supports up to four players both offline and online, and is much more chaotic. Here, each player can place up to three directional tiles at once in a bid to guide the most mice into their rocket, while keeping the cats at bay. This is complicated not only by other players, but by random roulette effects that swap rocket positions, increase the number of cats or mice, or simply blast lots of players with cats.
Although the official game servers were closed many years ago, dedicated fans restored the game's online functions and it can still be played using the DreamPi today. For more information on how to do that, visit Dreamcast Live.

Another Sega Dreamcast classic has just had its online multiplayer modes restored for Dreamcast Live, a new fanmade online connection service for Dreamcast. Sega Tetris (2000) is now back up and running online thanks to the efforts of one Shu, who has restored online features for many Dreamcast games already, including The Next Tetris: On-Line Edition (Also 2000), another Dreamcast Tetris game.
Unlike The Next Tetris, which only released in North America and Europe, Sega Tetris released only in Japan, both on Dreamcast and the NAOMI arcade system. Because of its reliance of Japanese reading comprehension, Dreamcast archivist PCWZRD13, who also made and uploaded the above video, had also taken the liberty of preparing a patch to translate the online multiplayer menus to English. Patched versions of Sega Tetris, as well as a few other Dreamcast Live compatible games, can be downloaded freely from Dreamcast Live’s downloads page.
Drop down past the break for more info on how to get started if you’re interested in trying this game out.
For anyone not in the know, Dreamcast Live is an online network hosting online services for over 25 Dreamcast games, including popular ones like Phantasy Star Online (2001), Quake III Arena (2000), Chu Chu Rocket (2000), and even Sonic Adventure (1999). You can connect using a device they’ve created with Raspberry Pis called a DreamPi, which allows the Dreamcast’s 56K modem adaptor to communicate through broadband connections. You can also use an original Dreamcast Broadband Adaptor if you have one, but most games (including Sega Tetris, sadly) were only compatible with the modem, as the BBA was not released alongside the Dreamcast. Fortunately, Raspberry Pi computers are cheap and readily available, and most versions of it can be used as a DreamPi. Dreamcast Live has a guide set up to help you make your own as well as a shop to buy any special parts you may need or readily made DreamPis whenever stock is available. A full list of compatible games can be found here.
For Sega Tetris specifically, PCWZRD13 warns that you should download the latest version of DreamPi, which is version 1.9 DLE as of this writing, in order to have an easier time getting matches running. It’s a good idea to keep your DreamPi software as up to date as possible anyway, I imagine. He also warns that you will need to come up with a unique login ID in your Dreamcast ISP settings, instead of leaving it as “dream”, which is apparently common for Dreamcast Live players. Sega Tetris will ban people using the same login ID, since it cannot tell whether or not players are sharing the same account. Once you have all that squared away, you’re ready to enjoy some online Sega Tetris.
The last time I talked about Dreamcast Live was when the online modes for Daytona USA 2001 were restored through them. Since then, they have finally added support for the Japanese version of that game, as well.
Have you been playing Dreamcast games online with Dreamcast Live? Are you about to play Sega Tetris online too? Do you own a copy of Sega Tetris? Drop us a line in the comments below.

Hey again, just popping in to say that I have a movie review that I'll likely be posting here tonight! It's already on my cohost if you have the time look at over there, but I definitely plan to crosspost it here like I did the vice-versa with the DreamPi story.
Thanks for reading and hope y'all are having a nice day. :>
