DT17 Anniversary Posting
So I've heard around the cafeteria that there's a theme for today centered around people's favorite episodes. Well, I don't have [a] favorite episode. But I can narrow it down to 1 per season, so let's go with that.
(P.S. if you were tagged in this post it's because I gave you cool people a shoutout at the end.)
S1: The Last Crash of the Sunchaser!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When I first watched this show, this episode was the one where I realized things were serious. This wasn't just a funny duck show. It's definitely still funny and a duck show, but it's so much more than that.
On Disney+, this episode comes right after Lena is possessed by Magica, so my mind was 100% on that heading in. Instead, we got the resolution to Dewey's arc and the mystery of Della Duck... or so we thought!
Sure, we found out Della's fate, but that was almost secondary to the family drama, especially between Dewey and Scrooge. It's very intense, and even when we get the answers we're looking for, the questions all change.
I don't need to explain why this episode is good. It just is. The fact that I picked this episode, and not a Lena-centric one, shows how good it is.
S2: A Nightmare on Killmotor Hill!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alright fine. One Lena episode.
After Lena was brought back in "Friendship Hates Magic!", the question was, where do we go from here? I think they handled it very well, integrating her back into the kids' friend group while still letting the effects of Magica's abuse linger on.
I really enjoy the idea of characters' dreams showing their deepest fears and desires. The kind of stuff they would otherwise stash away when they're awake. This episode took that concept and sprinted with it.
I still think we ought to have had more sleepover episodes with all of the kiddos. When everybody is fighting for screen time in Season 3, this episode shows how you can balance several characters at once, even if Lena was the one getting the majority of the attention. The "Swanstantine" episode is another good example of this.
I mean, come on. We got Webby dressing herself up as Scrooge McDuck as soon as she realized she could do whatever she wanted. It was foreshadowed from the beginning!
S3: Astro B.O.Y.D.!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've talked about this one before. It's one of my favorite pieces of autism rep. Boyd's journey in this episode really resonated, as well as his relationship with Huey.
In my opinion, the best part about it is how Huey relates to Boyd. Specifically not because he's a robot, but how Huey sees him as just a kid, just like him. The robot part is more of a neat quirk than anything. He's wired differently, literally, but they deserve a chance to be themselves.
And I appreciate how "Astro-B.O.Y.D!" gives Boyd a purpose as a character. I thought the bit in the Doofus episode where the villains try to pull the same con as Louie was fun, but Boyd didn't feel like much of a character, or at least no more of one than Sharkbomb was.
So "Astro-B.O.Y.D!" takes a character that very well could have had a one-off bit role, and made him something special. Made him somebody that a viewer can relate to, just as Huey did in the episode. Even just for 22 minutes, Boyd felt special. I felt special. I felt seen.
So yeah, that's my three. The fact that I can sit here and ramble about a half-decade old show that ended before I found it, is really cool. I'm so glad to have the chance to hang out with everybody here, whether we're discussing the best show in the history of time or doing literally anything else.
Shoutout to the people rallying the troops for today's anniversary... @secret-tester @justaboot @alexcanine @boingodigitalart @yeyeducks @cookieruby @the-richest-duck ... and to everyone else who's participated not just today but any day. We wouldn't be a community without the fine folks in it.

Ive hated phantom and sorceress since day 1 too. You are not alone. It completely just flattens both lena and gladstone's characters for what? You could genuinely replace gladstone with a paper bag and the episode would honestly still be the same. I feel like Gladstone was just there because 'haha hehe magicstone tease!' And this is coming from someone who liked magicstone a lot at the time. Even little 14 year old me watched that and was disappointed. Magicstone does not belong in ducktales 2017 in any way imo.
On the topic of ducktales critical opinions, i also have mixed feelings on astro boyd. It gave so much to boyd that i love, but i feel like it made people misunderstand gyro gearloose completely. Like im one of the three people who prefer boyd to live with the drakes because Doofus drake's parents to me are people who are well prepared to take care of a child/ren, and who try to improve as parents and people even after they fumbled in caring for doofus drake.
Imo Astro boyd is a good starting point, but many people treat it as THE finish line for gyro and boyd. gyro just began healing from his trauma. He is not ready to take full responsibility for boyd, and honestly, I'm not sure he ever will be. Most ppl don't understand this.
In conclusion, i feel like astro boyd (and honestly most of season 3) are good concepts but were victims of being episodes in a final season of a show affected by covid. People wanted ducktales to keep up the amazing momentum it had in season 2, but like season 3 was just at the wrong place, at the wrong time.
14 year old me was also disappointment by phantom and the sorceress 😅and yeah i agree, DT17!magicstone is just.. not it
i think your feelings on astro boyd makes sense! gyro could be considered boyd's "father" but he wouldnt really be a good dad if that makes sense? obviously the Drakes arent the most perfect parents, but they clearly care for Boyd in a way that Gyro would struggle to because of the emotional connection to Akita/Tokyolk. I'll admit im also guilty for jumping on the "Gyro is Boyd's Dad!" bandwagon especially when the episode first came out, but i definitely agree that he (Gyro) shouldn't have full custody of Boyd until he works on his emotional issues
and that would have been great to see in a season 4! i think its good (and kind of correct) to see Astro Boyd as the start, but i think the fact we don't really get to see them interact... at ALL later is what makes it feel like the "finish" for a lot of people.
admittedly im not aware of the extent that covid affected the production of Ducktales but i definitely agree with you on how season 3 has a LOT of good concepts, but have extremely mixed execution (Louie's Eleven and Sword of Swanstantine come to mind for me). its really a shame. i think a part of the problem with the execution and pacing might also be because the writers knew that they didn't have a 4th season, so they squished some arcs and plots to have room to bring in other characters/cameos from other Saturday Afternoon Disney Shows

Being a Boyd fan is fun because it’s like...I could always just tell anyone who hasn’t yet watched DT17 to only watch Astro BOYD if you don’t feel like watching the entirety of the show. But then again, you’ll have no idea about some of the stuff in Boyd’s memories. So I could also tell you to watch Happy Birthday Doofus Drake (you don’t...have to, the episode’s just kinda meh, but Boyd is there <3) but if I did actually suggest you watch it, then you’d be confused about Della.
...So then I’d say ‘Well, you’d have to watch all of season 1 and 2 to understand the full impact of her being there’, so basically just watch all of the show except for maybe the last...four episodes? Sadly they’re not all that great, except for maybe a few bits in the finale.
So basically watch the entire show, then just come to me for my opinions on it because I’m right <3

what is YOUR favourite dt episode?
A few people have asked me for my favorite episodes, so I thought I’d wait until the end of the tournament to give some of mine!!! Using this ask as an excuse to give my top five!
In the end most of these boil down to favorite character bias, but DuckTales has some amazing characters so can you blame me-
#1 Favorite, Astro B.O.Y.D.!
Yes yeah favorite character bias of course I love Gyro and team Science but also! There is so much more to love outside of them!
First off Gyro's character development?? He was a long established favorite of mine before that and it was so wonderful to not only get his backstory but his development too all in one episode. The way they give us so much about him in just a little dialogue and how much you can read into it- "I swore I would never go back" "Spent my whole life trying to live that down" *immediately goes back and faces it* really shows how huge it was for him to see Boyd again. Just having him there made him so scared of a repeat that he went back to face it with barely a moment's hesitation.
And Boyd oh my god he is the most precious child ever. He's wildly misunderstood! Baby boy! I really want to know how much of his memory he still has in the beginning, because he didn't know anything about what happened but he was still able to recognize Gyro I'm gonna cry. His and Huey's interactions are adorable and amazing, I don't relate much to the autism rep but I sure do fucking appreciate it. Every now and then I think too much about the "just wired a little differently" line and have to sit down for a minute. "That's the nicest thing anyone's said to me" BABIES. DO YOU UNDERSTAND.
Another thing I really appreciate about this episode is Fenton! I was thinking about it recently and I think this is the most of Fenton's personality we get to see. Every other episode centered around him he's having to deal with Mark Beaks or Waddleduck (Mark Beaks) or the date fiasco (Mark Beaks) or fighting an evil robot car (Mark Beaks) or being hacked (Mark Beaks) and so it's fun to just kind of see him Hanging Out in this episode. The way he just whisks Huey and Boyd off in the middle of the night makes me think he's like the fun older relative who drives you to the gas station after dark to get movie snacks. And I will never get over his "2-BOOOOOOO" anime scream.
People in the notes during the tournament complaining The Hug is overhyped no you don't understand. It is not appreciated enough. 1. All Boyd wanted the whole episode was a hug and to get that from the person who he used to care for the most? Who used to care for him the most? I'm not okay. 2. Gyro gets up there and acknowledges what Boyd has been saying this whole time, and it touches Boyd so much that he not only snaps out of evil mind control but his first instinct is just to hug him? 3. Gyro finally sees Boyd and understands what happened and the first thing he does is grab him out of the air and hug him? Gyro is clearly not a very huggy person but he doesn't hesitate there. That hug to me always means "I see you and I'm sorry" god I'm gonna cry.
There is so much more to say about this episode like the animation and Tezuka and Akita (so mad we never saw him in F.O.W.L.) but uhhh I've rambled enough so
#2 Favorite, From the Confidential Case Files of Agent 22!
Again! Favorite character bias, I love crazy evil women. Black Heron you are everything to me I'm so sorry you were so sidelined you deserved another episode. Also what the hell was going on with her and Beakley in the 60s "I've grown very well acquainted with your agent 22" ma'am what do you mean by that. What were you two Doing. Nothing else happens in this episode right-
Kidding! When I say that the S3 finale came out of nowhere I mean the triplets reveal went too fast for me, not the buildup of Webby and Scrooge being close. We had a random-ass episode in the middle of S1 already confirming them as best friends, and it is so adorable to see them bond. Scrooge let her yell a battle cry even though it would likely trigger the robots I love them. He lets her take the final fight against Heron because he knows she can do it I love them.
#3 Favorite, The Outlaw Scrooge McDuck!
"You just like this one because Gyro and Fenton are in it" you're catching on. I'm sorry I did say this is all favorite character bias. I love Marshall and Gyro just pops in for absolutely no reason other than that they needed the Time Tub to be established and they needed an excuse to get tech into the 1800s. He could've been literally any other character they could've made a new one Gyro literally doesn't matter there but he is there just Hanging Out and I love that for him.
I'm not the biggest Scroldie fan but they are fun. My favorite part is when Goldie hits him in the face with a gold pan and leaves him in a water trough. I love seeing more of Goldie here too, "oh I ran out of people to pit against each other" Gaslight Gatekeep Girlboss it's so fun to see her actively manipulating her way out of a situation. Also I fucking love her dress and I yell her "KEY CHANGE" whenever I get a chance to.
#4 Favorite, The First Adventure!
"You just like this one because Black Heron is in it" correct. What did I say. She gets to do whatever the fuck she wants in this episode and I love her for that. "Forgot I set that one" she is everything to me.
I can't not appreciate little Donald and Della though, and we get to see The Note! "Eat the rich uncle" you know they only got away with that because no one can understand Donald. Speaking of which- I was so sad knowing it wasn't going to be Russi Taylor voicing him but I think whoever stepped in did a fantastic job, the only reason I can tell it's someone else is because I was paying so close attention to his voice. I love how Scrooge just hands the controls of a plane to a 10 year old talk about living on the edge. There are too many silly little hijinks with these three to go through but I love all of them they go so well together as characters. They all play off of each other amazingly and I feel like you get that the best in this episode. Also "am I donna or dello" should I make a poll for that.
#5 Favorite, Timephoon!
How does an episode completely change a fandom. Della Duck get behind me. I wasn't even in the fandom when this dropped but if I'm still seeing aftershocks of the chaos years after then I know it was bad. Thing is Della isn't even the thing I often focus on when watching this but I Will talk about it because nobody has any chill. Seriously kudos to her for winning the tournament she deserves it after all of this. I adore her interactions with Beakley in this episode "duuuude why would you step on a butterfly?!" that is not the point and she knows it she just does whatever she can to get out of being responsible. Mood.
The kids are really the focus here! I know Louie's story has more impact on the plot but I really like whatever was happening with Bubba and Huey and Webby. Pure shenanigans trying to reference an older character but god was it funny.
Also I really love everyones outfits at the end, Knight Della and Aaron Burr and/or Mr. Darcy 1800s Gyro especially. I really was expecting what LP said about the future to come up again in the finale, and I don't know if it's good or bad that it didn't because on the one hand that would be an amazing reference and on the other it's just more evidence of LP being silly and saying random shit.
(Honorable favorite mentions, The 87¢ Solution, The Great Dime Chase, Most Dangerous Game Night, Nightmare on Killmotor Hill, and Missing Links of Moorshire)
Anyway! I'm so happy you all are interested in my favorites and it's very fun to get to talk about them, so thank you for the excuse! Sorry they all boiled down to "I just really like this character and they're in this episode" but again that just means DuckTales creates some really fantastic characters. Main reveal I'm @wacky-nameless-inventor-24 come say Hi if you want to! I should do a poll soon of what tournament we should do next!

Homesdale - 1971 black comedy directed by Peter Weir
Trailer
Essay by author Megan Abbott and an excerpt from film scholar Marek Haltof’s 1996 book Peter Weir: When Cultures Collide
This sensual and striking chronicle of a disappearance and its aftermath put director Peter Weir on the map and helped usher in a new era of Australian cinema. Based on an acclaimed 1967 novel by Joan Lindsay, Picnic at Hanging Rock is set at the turn of the twentieth century and concerns a small group of students from an all-female college who vanish, along with a chaperone, while on a St. Valentine’s Day outing. Less a mystery than a journey into the mystic, as well as an inquiry into issues of class and sexual repression in Australian society, Weir’s gorgeous, disquieting film is a work of poetic horror whose secrets haunt viewers to this day.
Pre-order Picnic at Hanging Rock.

I have never finished Ducktales so today I watched Astro B.O.Y.D. for the first time and let me just say I'm going to IMPLODE
Full word pile under
WHY WAS THAT THE BEST EPISODE OF ANY SHOW EVER???
It had fun references to Japanese culture
My favorite characters
Intense moments
Metaphors? for autism
The most beautiful bonding EVER
That honestly could've been a movie
It was so developmental for
Gyro and Fenton
That's not even even mentioning the ADORABLENESS that is B.O.Y.D. and Huey
I'm seriously extatic
That episode absolutely lived up to the hype I built for it mentally
I want to fucking chew on the depressing feelings of inadequacy from Gyro and the feeling of being "Robotic" that Huey mentions
The representation of feeling misunderstood and the touch upon not having feelings
Ugggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh
I wish I could watch that for the first time again even though it's only been 10 minutes
There is so much to say but I can't make it more than a random pile of words so
Uhhhhhhh Take these

Tennessee Titans: Best/Worse Case Scenarios 2024 NFL Season
Bottom Line: This Team Will Be Better Than Most Expect
Themes:
• A: Development of Will Levis
• B: New Key Pieces
• C: Coaching Change/Culture Shift
Call it “homerism,” but being a small market NFL team often means being underestimated. However, if you’re not paying attention to the Tennessee Titans, you’re missing out. The Titans are doing what most teams do when they believe they’ve found their quarterback: building a solid roster around him and creating an environment for success. With a quietly strong roster on both sides of the ball—featuring an upgraded offensive line, a reinforced wide receiver room, and an improved secondary—this team is poised to win games this year, even with Mike Vrabel no longer at the helm. Before the mainstream media writes this team off, here are some key factors to consider:
A: New Key Pieces
Titans GM/VP of Football Operations Ran Carthon has had a stellar offseason, acquiring talent through the draft, free agency, and trades. Let’s break down the additions:
Free Agents/Trades:
• Calvin Ridley (WR)
• Lloyd Cushenberry (C)
• L’Jarius Sneed (CB)
• Chidobe Awuzie (CB)
• Tony Pollard (RB)
• Sebastian Joseph-Day (DT)
• Kenneth Murray (LB)
• Jamal Adams (S)
• Quandre Diggs (S)
• Tyler Boyd (WR)
Draft Picks:
• JC Latham (OL)
• T’Vondre Sweat (DL)
• Jaylen Harrell (LB)
• Jha’Quan Jackson (WR)
• Jarvis Brownlee (CB)
Clearly, this team is heading in a new direction, and I’m not mad at it. Times change, and the Titans are adapting. Pairing Ridley with Hopkins seems almost unfair, and when you add a solid receiver like Boyd along with Treylon Burks, who’s ready to take the next step, the wide receiver room is no longer among the league’s worst. All of this has been achieved without sacrificing the run game. Both Pollard and Spears can run the ball the way Callahan wants it done, and I believe they’ll prove their worth this season.
On the defensive side, the moves made almost brought tears of joy. Drafting T’Vondre Sweat, who is unbelievably fast and agile for his size, was a masterstroke. Sweat is a certified run-stopper and will also affect the passer, drawing double-teams a solid percentage of the time. Pairing him with Jeffery Simmons, who also requires double-teams, will force opposing offensive lines into some tough decisions. Adding a talented, budding linebacker like Kenneth Murray to an already physical Arden Key will secure the middle of the field and boost the pass rush.
Then there’s the secondary, which has been reinvigorated with the additions of Sneed, Awuzie, Adams, and Diggs, alongside preexisting talent like Elijah Molden and Roger McCreary. This group has the potential to lock down a lot of yardage this year. Bottom line: the Titans’ defense has improved significantly.
Before I forget, let’s talk about the offensive line. With the addition of first-round pick JC Latham and the continued development of Peter Skoronski under new offensive line coach Bill Callahan, this unit should be miles ahead of where it was last year. Improved blocking, especially from the right side of the line, has been a highlight of the preseason, addressing one of the major issues from last year.
B: Coaching Change/Culture Shift
Please note, I am not a Mike Vrabel hater. I appreciate everything he’s done for this franchise—instilling a culture of toughness and grit, leading the team to an AFC Championship run, and managing an injury-riddled roster. However, I acknowledge that change was needed. The league is evolving, and the Titans were at risk of being left behind.
Brian Callahan and his staff bring a fresh perspective, new energy, and a balanced approach to Nashville. Players are reportedly thrilled with new defensive coordinator Denard Wilson and offensive line coach Bill Callahan. The emphasis on physicality and toughness remains, but there’s also a focus on balance, which I believe will help the Titans adapt and thrive in this new era.
C: Development of Will Levis
One crucial factor for the team’s success is the continued development of second-year quarterback Will Levis. Levis showed a lot of promise last year, stepping in for the injured Ryan Tannehill and pushing the ball downfield with confidence. He clearly won the team over, and his growth will drive this team as far as it can go. With a strong supporting cast around him and improved protection, Levis has the tools to succeed.
One concern is Levis taking unnecessary hits. We get it—you’re tough. But we’d also like you to have a long, successful career. All in all, I believe he’s ready to take the next step.
Best Case Scenario:
In the best-case scenario, the offensive line gels quickly, Levis makes sound decisions, and the defensive line dominates early by stopping the run and pressuring the passer. If everything clicks, a 10-win season and a playoff berth are within reach.
Worst Case Scenario:
On the flip side, if the offensive line takes most of the regular season to figure things out, if Levis regresses, if the run game falters, and if the defense spends too much time on the field, the team could be exposed. An undisciplined, sloppy defense could result in a 6-7 win season, or worse, and no playoffs. However, I highly doubt that happens, given the personalities and talent on this team.
The Tennessee Titans are primed to surprise many this upcoming season. There’s a fresh energy, new vibes, and a modern approach in Nashville. The Titans are changing with the times, and as a fan, I couldn’t be more excited for what’s to come.
