The love of my life gifted me Jinkx and Dela tour t-shirt last year and I've worn it lots of times since then, even to work, where it was on display to every person who comes in our museum. My colleague, a sweet older lady, said she liked 'those two campy women on my shirt' and I smiled and told her that they are comediennes and actresses and singers and I can't wait to see them live one day.

My keyring has a little acrylic keychain of Jinkx on it - I cropped it out myself and then ordered it somewhere off AliExpress. It has a golden star for a buckle and all, proper fan merch if you will. It's of Jinkx' as7 reveal runway, of Picasso coat where she is slightly bent - looks like she's posing specifically for a keychain tbh and every time I see her I giggle a tiny bit. My parent person liked that keychain the most out of several I have together - said it's very vibrant and pointed at Jinkx' hair, asked whether it's here that I get my inspiration from (she did the same with my Jinkx wallpaper some time ago) and I laughed and said that yes actually, I do.

The sister keychain of Jinkx is with the love of my life right now, in place where you can be covered in blood and have pronouns go celebrate pride, tell people about your relationships and fucking... Just see the rainbow occasionally, you know? Not get beaten up for holding hands with certain people.

I have this old blouse (ehuhuhu no but really) - 60s style thing, decade old, still as vibrant as ever. Parent person wore it to important work (tm) and I'm wearing it whenever I feel like it - all throughout college and all of my jobs, including this one. Only this year my bestie pointed out to me that it has nonbinary flag colours in the most abstract pattern of lines and shapes - and it so does. We then went shopping and I've found a campy cropped sweater with bell sleeves in perfect lesbian flag gradient - it was the only one, buried under the trendier ones. I feel so beautiful when I'm wearing it, every single time.

Why am I telling you this?

Because I live in Russia, and you know by now that that queers and allies are suffering, will suffer here gods knows for how many years.

Here’s a wee headcanon that I have for you- accosting to a discussion that some of my mutuals and I had, the guy who beat Cal is named Welly Darren. And even though she’s not mentioned in the game, the name of Cal’s wife is Valerie, and the two of them had an only daughter named Bianca. Anyhoo, the guys in the audience are Cal’s friends from the University of Timeville (The name of the city in The Highland Isle, which is actually a county); and the kids in the cutscene are Willy Darren (Blonde boy), Isabella Taylor (Redhead Girl), and Sally Darren (Pigtails Girl). Sorry for This infodump, but I hope it came in handy.

warning for a super long headcanon post about mundane junk!

note that in this context, when i say first-generation i mean the first eggs laid in a new flight, like shadow eggs from a family who have belonged to fire for generations. as opposed to parentless first-gen dragons, wherever the heck those come from

Earth eggs hatch by crumbling. An Earth hatchling will usually have a particularly strong egg tooth. First-generation hatchlings - fae especially, being altricial when not in areas of high magical potency - often need help to emerge.

While the outside of a Fire egg is much like an Earth egg, the core is a sort of molten “bubble” made of cool lava. The juvenile will push the igneous coating away from the inside of the bubble, then break the surface tension, often by spreading their wings. It’s dangerous to keep a Fire egg away from a nest for too long, as it may end up cooling entirely and preventing the dragon inside from hatching.

Healthy wind eggs are particularly light. Their density makes them hard to keep underwater. The swirls pattering the egg are fleshy, and are in actuality fully-formed “tails” of the dragon inside. Some theorize these were once connected to the laying dragon while developing inside of them, and were used to sap nutrients. Normally, these tails naturally disconnect from the embryo a short time before it is to hatch, though some dragons have been recorded to hatch with extra tails. It’s very unlikely for these hatchlings to keep their extra tails.

A water egg needs a certain amount of steam for the juvenile to properly develop. Most dragon species elect to simply heat the eggs, but many spirals of the Water flight instead choose to swim circles around their eggs to lower the pressure (and therefore boiling temperature) of the water around their nest. In both methods, it’s preferred to nest near the surface of the water; in the former, so the juvenile isn’t overheated, and in the latter, so the parents don’t exhaust themselves. The barnacles on the eggs’ shells are closely watched. While they help to soften the shell and allow the juvenile to hatch, they take nutrients from the egg. An egg that is over-encrusted can yield a weak hatchling.

Shadow hatchlings are often much smaller than their counterparts of other flights, due to their unusual way of hatching. A shadow dragon that is ready to hatch will simply tear through the membrane of one of its egg’s “bubbles”. Parents of larger breeds who are raising a first generation in this flight may wish to coax their hatchlings out early, to avoid the chance of them overgrowing their shell. While it can be cute to see a young shadow dragon with its limbs sticking from egg holes as if it was wearing the shell like a turtle’s, the firm part is wood-like, and can be difficult or even dangerous to remove from a hatchling.

Keeping an Ice egg healthy can be a delicate task. Most dragons in the Southern Icefield elect to simply give the eggs a generous amount of time to incubate, as melting the shell will leave the developing dragon incredibly vulnerable. When the juvenile is ready, it will simply peck or scratch at the ice until it crumbles. If keeping the shell intact isn’t an option (as is often the case in warmer climates), or the egg must hatch quickly, a dragon may intentionally melt the shell and keep the albumen and yolk inside of an artificial container. Pearlcatchers hatched this way should be given a soft substitute to consume, as Ice pearlcatchers have weaker gizzards than those of many other flights.

The shell of Lightning egg is comparable to glass. It’s difficult for dragons of a different flight to handle Lightning eggs without getting shocked. The shards of a first-generation lightning hatchling’s shell may pose a danger to them, it’s advised to move them away from the debris as soon as possible to avoid injury. Pearlcatchers may wish to smooth the shards into a more consumable shape for their hatchlings.

Light eggs glow constantly and produce more heat the longer they’re intact. A light egg that’s ready to hatch will be very hot to the touch. The shell is much like that of a chicken’s egg, though slightly more translucent. Hatchlings have little risk themselves, but caretakers should avoid touching them. Sometimes, steam can even be seen rising from the juvenile’s skin.

Nature eggs act very much how they look: like plants. It’s ill advised to move a nature egg, as they will take root in soil after a few days of incubation. Insects will frequently gather around this type of egg, so it’s important for caretakers to know which are beneficial and which are pests. Nature dragons will usually hatch with a tiny crown of leaves on them somewhere (varies depending on breed) that wilt and fall off when no longer needed.

Eggs of the plague flight may not always look like eggs. Oftentimes, they appear more like piles of flesh. This is especially true of eggs that are nearing time to hatch, as the albumen will be all but used and all that can be see through the cloudy membrane is the embryo. A plague egg is much like a shadow egg without its firm shell, a bag with thin skin that offers little protection. Since many plague clans follow a “survival of the fittest” philosophy, it’s not uncommon to find unguarded clutches. More concerned caretakers will protect and incubate their eggs in acidic puddles. This is not recommended for first-generation plague eggs as their skins may be corroded.

The more healthy an arcane egg is, the higher it will hover. Grounded eggs may still hatch but will rarely live to adulthood. These eggs feel strangely hollow compared to others. This is because the albumen consists not of water and protein but of an intangible energy. This energy can be difficult for some first-generation embryos to use, carrying the risk of underdeveloped hatchlings

The eggs of nocturnes and bogsneaks both have an artificial encasing covering them. This protects them, but also obscures their alignment.

In the case of nocturnes, eggs are manually covered in hardening substances (clay, mud, even magma). Since nocturnes don’t look after eggs produced during their annual mating celebration, protecting them in this way works as a trade off.

In the case of bogsneaks, eggs grow their armor as chemical coating while in the brewing process. The firmness of this plating is an essential part of telling when they egg needs to be removed from its cauldron.
