Project A-ko
Really getting out of my comfort zone making this 80s anime design of Eiko Magami from Project A-ko. I do enjoy the old school anime aesthetic. This is also my first commission of the year so I put a lot of effort into it! Enjoy! It's amazing how much nostalgia one character can bring back! ❤️

"Making an anime with girls running around in sailor uniforms shooting stuff is no good. Absolutely no good. [...] it just pisses me off." -- Hayao Miyazaki, on Project A-ko
Tumblr media
"The thing is, I know for a fact he enjoys this sort of thing, too." -- Yuji Moriyama, Project A-ko Animation Director, in response.
Honestly, hearing that Hayao Miyazaki said spiteful and hypocritical things about Project A-ko makes me laugh, because not only is A-ko the movie Miyazaki could would never make in what it is about and how it lives and breathes, but it's the movie he would never make right down to how it was produced and envisioned. Miyazaki is notorious for looking down on and squelching pretty much any animator's fingerprints on his work that aren't his own, but A-ko was made with the express purpose of letting its animators do whatever the heck they wanted, and the results are effervescent and chaotically glorious.

Wanted to do something cool for background, but I gave up and settled on it incredibly simple.

#Repost @66_seals ・・・ A-ko (A子) or Eiko Magami (摩神 英子, Magami Eiko) Daughter of Superman & Wonder Woman She gains her magical armbands that gives her ultra magical powers. The closing scenes of the original anime slyly indicate that her superhuman abilities stem from her being the child of Superman and Wonder Woman, who are apparently married; the latter is even seen tautening the former's shirt with the distinctive "S" emblem while the former is reading a copy of "The Daily Planet". A-ko's magic superpowers are super strength, super speed and nigh invulnerability; in Final, A-ko can finally breathe in outer space. . . . . . . #superman #wonderwoman #wonder #superwonder #comics #comic #dc #dccomics #galgadot #powercouple #art #artist #artwork #arte #arts #artsy #fanart #illustration #illustrator #illustrations #drawing #drawings #together #couple #couplegoals #love #lovers #justiceleague #supermanwonderwoman https://www.instagram.com/p/CQV6KVCsYhk/?utm_medium=tumblr

February 10, 1970 - Eiko Magami (A-Ko) is Born
Tumblr media
Eiko Magami, also known as A-Ko, was born on February 10, 1970, possibly the child of Superman and Wonder Woman. Possessing near-invulnerability and super speed, she functioned as a superhero in Graviton City, Japan, throughout the mid- to late-1980s.
Usually amiable and cheerful, A-Ko befriended an incognito extraterrestrial named C-Ko in kindergarten. The pair remained inseparable from that point; even after C-Ko learned of her alien origins as being the Fourth Princess of the Fifth Queen of the Lepton System, she chose to remain on Earth with A-Ko.
Their adventures would include a rivalry with a boy named B-Ko (possibly the son of Tony Stark), mecha fights, and outwitting a trenchcoated spy named D. But through it all, A-Ko considered herself an average teenager, her greatest challenges waking up on time for school and not overeating.

(Note: The birth year of 1970 is conjecture; the first movie was released in 1986 and she was supposed to be 16 years old in the film. No concrete year was available.)
