Happy Elain Archeron Week Day 6: Fanged Beast

One of my absolute favorite theories in this fandom is that Elain will be able to traverse the murky realm, like the Mystics in HOSAB. @wingedblooms incredible mind connects details in a way most only dream of and has helped to further my excitement for Elain’s book and journey. You can find the two main theories that inspired this piece here and here.

The first time we see Elain peer across the world, she is doing so as a trembling fawn, but my hope is that, she will peer across worlds on her way to becoming a fanged beast and embrace that side of her in her own book.

In this piece, Elain has left behind Az and Bryce in Velaris, and stepped into the murky realm, only to be greeted by a waiting Apollion, mirroring Az. Apollion’s black eyes, deep and dark as the Pit in which he dwells- a telltale sign that his relaxed posture is nothing more than a trick to give a false sense of calm. But I have confidence Elain’s fangs and claws will get her back home.

I’ve said this before, but I feel like it needs repeating.

If Elriel doesn’t happen, that means that both Elain and Azriel are doing things that OTHER people want.

Azriel would be obeying Rhysand’s command of staying away from Elain.

Elain would be giving into a bond she has verbally stated she doesn’t want.

And that’s just…not how romances work? Like no story plot line has clear obstacles that people have to face and the characters simply give up, just because someone said so??

Can you imagine what kind of message that sends, too? Give up on the person you like because someone else doesn’t want you together, and you should do what other people want more than what you want.

As an Elriel, I actually rlly like most Eluciens. I find that a lot of their theory’s are well thought out and they want the characters to be happy. But I do wonder one thing tho, so if you are an Elucien feel free to comment and rb if u have an answer!

I know that most Eluciens think that Elain already has secret feelings for Lucien but is staying away from him bc she’s scared of her feelings or she had a vision he’ll get hurt. At the very least, most think that eventually they’ll fall in love. Again, no problem with that!

But if Elain doesn’t actually like Lucien, and she never does, would you still want them to be together? Not to say that Lucien’s a bad character or undeserving of love(I love him sm) but would you want Elain to be with him even if she doesn’t want to be?

This is just a thought that I had but I like that we get a different side of Elain with Lucien.

Not only was their conversation together one of the only times we got a glimpse inside her mind and her struggles, but we also got the glimpse of her ruthlessness. She’s usually very tame and tries to not hurt people but when it comes to Lucien we feel her anger, even if quiet, it sizzles.

She’s not sorry for breaking his heart. She raises her voice to Feyre when she asks her to give him a chance.

Lucien brings out her rebellious side, her non-conformist side, even in spite of his happiness I guess, but she doesn’t owe it to him and he knows that. She did shrink to herself after he gifted her the pearls, but I don’t think it means she is complying to him, in fact she’s not, she’s dominating the situation all the time.

The other times we see Elain become this bold is when she wants to do something and people keep coddling her. These two issues go hand in hand.

It makes me think about when these two triggers collide, when Lucien has the opportunity to also coddle her and she’s about to go off on him but instead he aids her. I would like to see how her anger tries to come out anyway, unable to accept that he, the one who was placed upon her, is undeniably the one to see her. She will be so angry at that too.

This is the tension I want.

Nesta is a gwynriel shipper. e.g:

Nesta: ugh can you not he's my friend

Elain: what do you mean? we met him at the same time

Nesta: stop touching my stuff

What really gets me is when people say that Emerie and Gwyn were better friends/people to Nesta in comparison to Elain and Feyre.

1. Elain and Feyre are Nesta’s sisters, which will always be a VERY different dynamic than friends.

2. Elain and Feyre saw Nesta at her worst. In the human lands when they were all living in poverty, and right after the war/after turning Fae. Gwyn and Emerie got Nesta during her healing phase, not at her lowest.

3. Nesta never lashed out at Gwyn and Emerie like she did Feyre and Elain. Not even close. She was a little rude and standoffish to them at worst, but she never bluntly insulted or tried to verbally hurt them to the point that they would leave her. Which was Nesta’s goal with Feyre and Elain.

4. Gwyn and Emerie haven’t known Nesta that long. That doesn’t mean their friendship isn’t valid, but it’s still NEW. Not even a full year. Honestly, they’re still getting to know each other. Gwyn and Emerie know a lot about Nesta, but definitely not everything.

Idk every time I see a take like Gwyn snd Emerie being better to Nesta than Feyre and Elain, I’m just like…well yeah, Nesta was better to Gwyn and Emerie right off the bat. If she’d been the same level to them as she was to Feyre and Elain, I don’t think they would have become friends nearly as quickly. If ever. 🤷🏼‍♀️
