Presenting you, Innokenty Smoktunovsky as Yuri Detochkin from "Beware of the Car" (1966) vs. Lord Hamlet from "Hamlet" (1964)!
Two of my favorite roles of his, had the urge to draw him so bad because he's way too spectacular. It's like the sun and moon at the same time 😂

film reviews:  Unbelievable Adventures of Italians in Russia
Unbelievable Adventures of Italians in Russia is a 1974 Italian-Soviet comedy film directed by Eldar Ryazanov and Franco Prosperi.
Synopsis: Two ambulance drivers race through the streets of Rome, sirens blaring, so that one of them can drop his kids off at school. The two drivers, who are brothers-in-law, then drive to a nursing home to pick up an old Russian woman who is dying. They bring her to an overflowing hospital and squeeze her onto a bed where a man with a broken leg is recuperating. The Russian woman’s granddaughter arrives to hear her last words, and the grandmother tells her that in Russia before the Revolution she was incredibly rich, and she buried a treasure worth nine billion underneath a lion in Leningrad (St. Petersburg). The ambulance drivers, the doctor, the man with the broken leg, and a mafioso whose wife is giving birth all overhear this confession, but not what the woman subsequently whispers in her granddaughter’s ear. Everyone in the group decide separately to travel to Russia to search for the treasure, and all run into each other on the same flight. The men try to convince the granddaughter to team up with them unsuccessfully, while the mafioso decides to eliminate his competition one by one. However, everyone’s plans continually get derailed by each other, with hilarious results.
Review: This movie was hilarious, and I was shrieking with laughter throughout. I can’t recommend the film highly enough. It’s on YouTube and you can watch it here.

All for no reason. Someone's gaze. Springtime. And life is easy. There's no burden weighing on my shoulders. And there's so much silence in my soul, That you seem to choke on happiness...

A Cruel Romance is a 1984 Russian romantic drama directed by Eldar Ryazanov. It is based on Alexander Ostrovsky's classic play Without a Dowry (1878). The main female role was played by Larisa Guzeyeva in her cinematic debut.
The film takes place in the fictional town of Bryakhimov on the banks of the Volga River in 1877–1878. The two episodes of the movie differ chronologically: the events shown in the first episode last for almost one year, whereas the second episode shows events of less than one day, and the culmination of the whole story takes place in the second episode.
The film depicts the widowed noblewoman Kharita Ignatyevna Ogudalova, who comes from a very respected family and is blessed with three marriageable daughters. She has sunk into poverty since her husband's death, but tries to do everything possible to improve the lives of her daughters, which means helping them to happily marry rich and noble men. Because of her lack of money, Ogudalova keeps her house open to strangers, hoping that the company of her three beautiful music-loving daughters will attract many single and rich men who could marry the girls.
english subtitles.

The recent Soviet films that I've watched!
These are some of the Soviet films that I've watched and I recommend you to have a look as well! These films are starting to grow on me ever since my interest in Russian culture began to develop! And I believe everyone should watch these films, as well!
1. Garage — Eldar Ryazanov
Tumblr media
The first film I watched was "Garage". It is a one-room film which I oddly enjoyed? In some parts, I laughed, and in some parts, I went serious.
It's about a group of people who argue about losing their parking spots for the garage because of a new highway construction, but the way they hilariously created the tension and the drama is what brings me close to this story! I liked it so far and you should give it a go, as well!
2. Afonya — Georgiy Daneliya
Tumblr media
The second movie I watched. They said this movie was a "comedy".
HOW IS THIS A COMEDY?
They must have mistakenly thought this movie would make others laugh, but instead.. why do I feel hopeless? Why am I depressed while I'm watching it? Poor Afonya, man.. tells a lot how a man feels given up at some point and when he tries to change things always go downhill for him. Sometimes Afonya is not guilty, but sometimes he is. Being disconnected from reality is the worst thing that could happen to one person.
But, aside from the depressive moments, this movie was so well made! And in between I realised the protagonist is played by the SAME actor who played the role of George Miloslavsky from Ivan Vasilievich Changes Profession! I'm able to guess the actors now and it's such a miracle now *sniff*
3. Beware of the Car — Eldar Ryazanov
Tumblr media
The third film was directed by the same person who also created "The Garage". I first thought of watching this film for Anatoli Papanov and Andrei Mironov, but somehow it also touched my heart for the protagonist, Yuri Detochkin as well. Sure he did steal cars, but sold them for good intentions. I also loved the friendship between him and the detective Maxim, and how he deals with the inner conflict of whether he wants to defend his friend or portray him as a thief. This film was so heartwarming, it felt like almost crying.
