honestly the rebellion did nothing but tear siblings apart. lyanna and ned on opposite sides of the war leading to a rift between ned and benjen, ashara and arthur losing each other, lysa slipping deeper into her resentment of catelyn, the final nail in the coffin for stannis and robert, hoster and the blackfish parting, cersei and jaime delving deeper into their sick ways, oberyn fleeing westeros forcing him and doran to grieve their sister on their own never healing

Day 06 of House Martell Week: Favorite Martell fanfic/Aegon VI
"Pray The Sun Will Rise" by Trashforstuckyandgot is truly one of the best ASOIAF fics out there.
The fic changed my life and definitely inspired me to write my own.

Using my tennis knowledge to let you know something funny about Phil's Tire Town Challenger
So, as you may or may not know, this is the competition Art loses against Du marier. The Atlanta Open (ironically the same open where a few years earlier Tashi and Patrick slept together. It's a 250, so it makes sense that Patrick would be able to qualify for them).
Tumblr media
Although, the Du marier game could also be in this one, which is just a week or so after and is slightly harder to get in, since it's 500 (keep in mind the dates here are for the 2024 season and not the 2019 season)
Tumblr media
Either way! This is the Cincinnati open that Tashi pulls Art out of. It's a masters which is the hardest one right before the grandslams. (the numbers are pretty self explanitory I feel). If you notice, there's a 250 right around the same time, which Tashi could have sign him up for (a much better and more sensible career move than a fucking challenger!!!)
Tumblr media
But you're probably wondering, what does this have to do with Phil's Tire Town challenger?? As I am sure you guessed, no such Challenger exists. But do you know what challenger does exist?? And that happens around the same time as the movie?? This one!
Tumblr media
The Atlantic Tire Championships!! Which may or may not be the inspo behind Phil's Tire Town Challenger.

So apparently Rhaenys, daughter of Rhaegar, and Brienne of Tarth were both born in the same year. And suddenly the semi protective nature Jaime extends to her makes more sense, especially when it comes to the threatened rape and the loss of hand.
Think about how Rhaenys died while he was elsewhere. Think about how she killed. Think about who he killed with the very hand that was taken.
I’m too busy to write a meta but I might come back to it later. Anyone else is free to think a kit this.

(I think little Vermax is quite cute, he reminds me lizard 🧡 💛 💚)
From F&B/ASOIAF: Your favorite ship (canon or not)? Your least favorite ship? Your favorite character? Your least favorite character? Which character do you think deserved better?
omg you're right!!! and i'm really scared of lizards!!! that's prob why i don't like how he looks
my fav ship from hotd is aegond. their relationship is so interesting and complex and i'm really hoping we'll get more of them in s2. my fav asoiaf ship is ... mmm brienne and jamie. love them.
my least fav ship from hotd ... i'm have to say jace and helaena. i.. just don't like it i don't see it i don't get it (hopefully @emilykaldwen will forgive me for this lol)
my fav character is jamie. he's awesome. from hotd my fav character is alicent
my least fav character (to the surprise of no one) is viserys. he's a horrible person and his hypocrisy makes him so unbearable to watch. he's so boring as well. watching him only makes me mad i literally have to skip his scenes when i rewatch the show.
which character do i think deserved better. wow, so many haha but i would say that helaena, sansa, elia martell, show!laena, alicent, and catelyn are at the top of my list (and basically every woman in the asoiaf universe)
thank you for your asks!!! <3

Challenge for GRRM: have a storyline about a woman being a victim of sexual violence (if you’re gonna use it so heavily) that focuses on her and how she’s impacted instead of using it to develop an adjacent male character

Do you think Jaime would have defended Elia and her children against the Mountain? Or his presence would have not made a difference?
I think the question is somewhat missing the point:
Prince Rhaegar burned with a cold light, now white, now red, now dark. “I left my wife and children in your hands.”
“I never thought he’d hurt them.” Jaime’s sword was burning less brightly now. “I was with the king … [sic]”
Jaime believed in that moment (or convinced himself that he believed - the answer is up to you) that Tywin would not hurt Elia or her children. Jaime likewise knew, as the sack of King's Landing was happening, that Aerys II had refused his, Jaime's, offer to negotiate a surrender and was also meeting with Rossart to conduct the wildfire plan. With no reason to suppose (again, in his own mind, at least) that Elia and the young Targaryens were in any danger, and with the knowledge that it was a question of minutes at most to stop the wildfire plot he alone (apart from the king and his pyromancer co-conspirators) was fully aware of, Jaime had no reason to go and defend Elia and/or her children (especially from an attack he did not know was imminent/already begun - Jaime's memory suggests the scaling of Maegor's Holdfast was happening simultaneously to Jaime killing Rossart and Aerys).
But Tywin did hurt them, of course, and much worse - sending some of his most brutal lieutenants to murder Elia, Rhaenys, and Aegon (and in particularly grisly, violent ways). The fact that Jaime feels a strong sense of guilt over their end is demonstrated by Rhaegar's appearance with this very line in Jaime's dream, as well as the dream-Jaime's reaction to it. The dimming light of Jaime's sword reflects his own guilty memory of the event, shadowed by the knowledge of what had happened: Jaime might answer the ghostly Rhaegar's accusation by citing the more important work of stopping Aerys' last mad act, but he knows that by choosing to be there (i.e. in the throne room to kill Aerys), he denied himself the ability to be elsewhere - that is, with Elia and the children, being killed at virtually the same moment by Tywin's own men.
It's not about whether Jaime would have defended Elia and her children against the Mountain, because that's a scenario that could not have happened. Jaime could not have done differently from what he did and still be Jaime (or this still be the same story) - but that doesn't mean Jaime doesn't know what the alternative was now, and does not mean he does not feel the pain of that choice still.

Why do you think Joanna Lannister wanted an alliance with Dorne?
I suspect we are never going to get a full answer to this question in canon (unless GRRM remembers to include it in Fire & Blood, vol. 2) so what I'm saying here is pretty much all speculation.
I personally like the theory (which I believe was @joannalannister's, though it might have originated with @lyannas or @madaboutasoiaf) that the Princess of Dorne joined Rhaella Targaryen's household as a lady-in-waiting either during or slightly before the War of the Ninepenny Kings. Joanna Lannister was also part of Rhaella's train, and I like the idea that the three women were close, and that they intended to seal that closeness with a series of marriage alliances.
We're talking about the year 273 AC. Queen Rhaella has just suffered a string of miscarriages and stillbirths, and Rhaegar is her only son (now aged 13-14). Joanna has the twins (aged 7ish), and the Unnamed Princess has Oberyn and Elia, who are 15-17ish, respectively. We know from the story Oberyn tells Tyrion that his mother took him and Elia on a Grand Tour of sorts, across Dorne, to Oldtown, and finally, to Casterly Rock. Oberyn believes his mother intended a double betrothal--him to Cersei, Elia to Jaime--but this seems strange for a few reasons.
One, Elia is significantly older than Jaime (as much as 8-10 years), which would mean that any potential heirs to Casterly Rock would need to wait until she was well into her twenties. Now, one explanation is that Elia's mother was cognizant of Elia's health issues and wanted to make sure her daughter would not get pregnant too young, and if that is the case, the betrothal actually makes perfect sense. It also squares with the fact that Elia and Rhaegar did not marry until Elia was 22 or 23, which is about the point at which she and Jaime would likely have married, if that betrothal had actually happened.
Two, we know Tywin intended to marry Cersei to Rhaegar so a grandchild of his blood could sit the Iron Throne. Of course, given Aerys II's repeated attempts to sexually assault Joanna (and his successful assaults upon Rhaella, which Joanna would have known about), she may not have wanted her daughter married to that particular king's son. A double betrothal with Dorne would have solved that problem up to a point, by making sure Cersei was out of Aerys' reach geographically. But also Oberyn may have simply been there as a red herring.
Either way, even if these two ladies had agreed on a double betrothal between their children, they may have done so to buy time for those children to grow up, and--specifically for Joanna's purposes--to separate the twins. We know she had discovered the two of them doing something (not clear what) that troubled her enough that she insisted they move to opposite sides of Casterly Rock. And if you consider the size of Casterly Rock, that is a pretty serious step on her part. I don't know that it's outside the realm of possibility that she considered sending one of them to Dorne.

Okay, this is a Persian symbol, and every time I think of Cersei x Oberyn or Elia x Jaime or Myrcella x Trystan pairings I remember this symbol.
Lion and Sun, imagine a dynasty of Lannisters and Martells with a flag like that!
Did you know the mane of a lion represents the flares of the sun in Persian?
Sun is Life! And the Lion is the protector of the realm!

Love the Jaime in Dorne AU! What kind of marriage would Jaime & Elia have?
I was wondering this myself!! I guess once again there’s not a whole lot we know about Elia besides that she liked to laugh, was a bit frail, had good relationships w her brothers, and thinks babies are cute as hell. It’s not a vivid portrait but I think based on that much she and Jaime would at least get along - they both have a sense of humour, value family etc.
But I think cos Jaime would be arriving at Dorne at the age of about 7 and Elia 16, it would probably end up being more of a big sister/little brother relationship (I am aware how that sounds when we’re talking about Jaime Lannister but bear with me), and it would take many years living as husband and wife for it to feel romantic lol. So I think the marriage would start awkwardly but they’d be happy to be on friendly terms at least, and then they’d build everything else sort of like Ned and Cat did over the years.
I don’t think they have the raw chemistry of JB, and I think Jaime and Cat or Jaime and Lyanna might have had a stronger start (who knows who would be the best match for Elia), but they could make it work.
