A name of your own
I was originally going to make some fics for mothers day but was really busy so I couldn't get them done in time. Since this the only one I finished I will be posting, just belatedly.
Hope yall enjoy!😘
Summary: You would make a name for yourself outside of your fathers prophecies.
Relationships: Elia Martell + daughter reader (platonic)
She sat across from him. The man she had once loved. But right now she felt nothing.
Elia Nymeros of House Martell known that to be a Queen took strength. She had seen her own mother bend, but never break under the weight of her obligations. The obligations of a Queen were to support her husband, and have an heir. And yet, how does one uphold her husband's demands when they harmed her child?
“You have to understand.” Rhaegar pleaded. His purple eyes were shining. But it did not move her as they once did. Once she might have melted under the sight. Now the only thing she could think about was her children, and how this man had endangered their lives.
 And for what?
Oh that's right .Because Rhaegar was so in love he just had to make off with Lyanna Stark, starting a war. Mad King Aerys might be dead, stabbed through the chest. But many good men and women had died.
Lewin Martell. Dead, killed at the Battle of the Trident.
Lord Stark and his son Benjin. Executed for tying to seek justice.
Rhaella Targareyn. Died in childbirth on Dragonstone.
Thousands of poor souls. Dead.
“You have no right.” Her voice was oddly leveled. Elia did not need to raise it. He only had to look into her dark brown eyes to see the anger set in them. She would never forget, or forgive Rhaegar for all the lives lost. But most of all, it was the fact that he put her children in danger. Raeneys no longer slept well. These days she was up half the night in terror. Though Aegon did not truly know what had happened, the baby now had an anxious disposition. Whenever someone other than Elia held him, he cried. When the door opened, Aegon turned his head as if expecting to be attacked. No words could express an angry mothers rage that was strong enough.
The door opened. It was as if time itself had stopped.
So this was Lyanna Stark.
“Aegon’s been-” She stopped, because it was at that moment Lyanna saw Elia. It was the world's most uncomfortable tableau.
Slowly, Elia got up. Elia was rather taller than she looked. Her slender form and dress often gave Elia the look of a graceful willow. But to Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen thought they were seeing something else. Her dress was like a sea of red. Black hair cascading down in waves. The last time they had seen each other face to face, Lyanna was wearing a flower crown and Elia, heavy with her third child. It made Lyanna feel small. Less than.
“Aegon?” Elia’s attention was turned to the baby in Lyanna’s arms. So this was the baby.
Suddenly it clicked.
“You named him Aegon!” Her voice tore the throat. Rhaegar seemed to shrink. Many times Elia had to resist the urge to smack some sense into Rhaegar. But never had she wanted to actually hit him. At least until he had left her to die.
“You intend to replace our children.” She was no longer yelling. But it would have been better if she had. Instead it was the cold, angry voice she used when her rage was just brimming. The only time Rhaegar had even heard it was the time he crowned Lyanna Queen of love and beauty. It made Rhaegar shrink in his chair.
Elia then bent down, almost nose to nose with her husband.
“And let me tell you this. Any child you father with her, will never replace mine. I promise you that.”
Y/n Targaryen was the firstborn to Rhaegar Targareyen and Elia Martell. It had rained on the day of your birth. That year had been unbearably dry. So the rain was a great relief. For the first time in months, the ground would be able to bear seed. With a clap of thunder you were born, crying overtaking the noise outside. Elia had always wanted an identity for her children. So when it was time to name you, your mother fought to have a name that was not tied to some prophecy.
Y/n. No Princess or Queen had ever borne the name. It was all yours. Unfortunately, by the time Rhaeneys was born Elia had lost influence at court and so Rhaegar was allowed to name her whatever he wanted. As a little girl you had never understood why it mattered. All you knew was that Rhaegar’s attention was all for Rhaeneys and Aegon, leaving you and Jon behind. For you two fell outside the prophecy.
But you would always have your mother. On the nights that monsters reigned your dreams, you ran to your mother. It was always her who caught you when you fell. Most of your days were spent indoors with Jon and Daenerys, your aunt. Unlike the conquering Queens, you could wield no sword. That was a severe disappointment to your father. Every time he would see you sewing in the corner, Rhaegar simply looked away. Rhaeneys was a true warrior, like her namesake. Elia had frowned when Rhaegar had boasted about this. She then reminded him that Rhaeneys was great in her own right, not just because she had a likeness of a long dead Queen.
You were jealous of Rhaeneys and Aegon. Not that you didn’t have a good relationship with them. As siblings you loved one another. But it was hard when he would pass you by and only have eyes for the children who meet his standards.
Rhaenys and Aegon didn’t love their father any more than you. Ever since they found out how he had tried to bastardize them, he was not truly their father. It was only because the idea was so popular, and your mother threatening to bring the Dornish down on him, that he relented.
It seemed that not even his secret wedding to Lyanna had panned out as planned. She was not his Queen. Only the consort. And he had no daughter. Another child by Elia would kill her and Lyanna had no luck with pregnancies since Jon. You could tell it frustrated him to no end. Consort Lyanna was in hiding these days. Barely seen by the public. You only saw her during state occasions. In their youth, Rhaegar and Lyanna had run away and married, sparking a war. Now, they hardly spoke.
Destiny is never laid out in the stories of the past, but in the actions of the future. That much you knew. And you grew to be grateful for it. You would be known as Y/n, not some other distant figure that you must live up to. And as you lay your head down at night, you knew your mother loved you for who you were.
You would follow Daenerys and Jon to Essos. It had always been your dream to discover far off countries. Elia had cried, but knew you were a grown woman. Rhaegar hardly noticed. From the docs Rhaeneys and Aegon gave tearful farewells. And so you were on your journey.
Three years later, a Prince and two Princesses arrived in King's Landing. Daenerys the Unburnt, Jon the Undead, and Y/n the merciful. During your time, you had helped spread medicine across many places. Together with other knowledgeable forces, you had learned and taught much. Now and forever you would be known as a great healer. As your feet landed on the docs, your family and Rhaegar were waiting. At its head was your mother. With tears in your eyes you ran towards her. She swept you up in her arms.
“Welcome home, Y/n.”

The Princess and her Knight
Tumblr media
Elia Martell x Reader
Ps: reader is born from a previous marriage making the Stark siblings her half siblings.
Elia Martell had always dreamed of being someone's princess. Y/n Stark always wanted to be a knight.
In very unusual circumstances a viper and a wolf find themselves intertwined.
note: simply wish fulfillment for Elia to get the crown she deserves😤
She was the Princess of Dorne. Descended from Nymeria and Meria Martell. You had heard these stories from the cradles. On cold winter nights Nan would tell you of far-off places where there was no snow and the days were hot. They unnerved your brothers, who felt that women had no business wielding a sword or holding power. But you were utterly transfixed. More than once you and your sister Lyanna would sneak off, swords in hand. When everyone was asleep, the two of you snuck around, pretending to be Nymeria on her journey to Westeros. As the oldest child, you were expected to set an example. Well, that would explain why Lyanna and Brandon were so wild. The three of you were fresh young wolves, eager for a taste of life. Those days, however, were short-lived. One day a message arrived from Kings Landing. Prince Rhaegar Targaryen was going to marry Elia Martell of Dorne.
You wondered what this Princess was like. Was she fierce like Meria? Alive with unquenching fire like Nymeria? They called her youngest brother a snake. Perhaps she was one too. Half expecting to find a woman with slits for eyes and fangs, a normal woman was slightly more surprising. She was smaller than imagined. With bundles of silky black hair and warm brown eyes. Sun-kissed skin was draped in flowing orange garments. She smiled as you curtsied. And a warm hand touched your cheek.
Elia Martell knew little of the north. It was a cold distant place, quite unlike home. She heard of the Northern Kings, the great walls and mysterious creatures known as the Others. Born sickly, Elia spent most of her time reading. She was encouraged to read books with filled with history and numbers. At night, when Oberyn finally left her room, she pulled out the other books. These were not books her family approved of. Not that they belittled her for it, but a Dornish Princess was expected to be more practical. “We are Princesses of Dorne, not some silly little southern girl. We are descended from warriors, not maids.” Is what Elia’s mother told her. She knew her family loved her dearly. But she wished they could understand. She wanted a world where she could be loved and love back. The stories where love conquered all. Her favorite was Aemon the Dragonknight and Princess Naerys. Even if the Targaryens were their centuries-old enemies, the story of Aemon loving his sister so fiercely it a fire in her. Of course, she was loved. But Elia wanted someone to hold her dear, just as Aemon held Naerys. So even as Elia got ready to marry Prince Rhaegar, there was an ache.
The Stark Banners flew over the procession. Like your sister Lyanna, you chose to ride on horseback. It was the day of Rhaegar’s marriage to Princess Elia. The procession was an endless line of Westeros’s greatest houses. “Look!” Lyanna pointed to a minstrel show on the side. It was a reenactment of Prince Aemon crowning his Naerys the Queen of Love and Beauty. The sept of Balor was packed to the brim. The crowd roared outside. Luckily, as the eldest daughter of House Stark, you had the honor of seeing everything in person. Elia was just as small as you remembered her. Rhaegar looked as though he could dwarf her.
Your next interaction with the princess was during the dance. Dancing had never been your forte. So as your father and oldest brother were busy, you slipped away. Eddard sat glumly in a corner as Lyanna and Brandon made themselves the life of the party. They could take care of themselves. You moaned in relief as you loosened your corset. A warm wind came up from the city. Your place on the balcony allowed you to see every light below. “Thank the Gods.” You sighed.
Elia was relieved to take a break. She loved dancing, but could only take so much of it. Oberon had offered to accompany Elia, but she refused. She needed to be alone. Every woman knew what was expected on their wedding night. Elia was ashamed to find tears behind her eyes. She was supposed to be the perfect lady, the perfect princess. But she was so scared. This act would be the last bit of her childhood stripped away. Oberon would leave, and she would be Elia Targaryen. The dark halls offered a brief comfort. It was a blessed moment out of the glare of court. Up ahead she saw a balcony. Quickly, Elia picked up her pace. Being a lady be damned she was going to get air.
“Thank-” She was not alone. A woman dressed in blue straightened her posture. Elia was stuck. There was a sort of wild beauty about her. It was so unlike the ladies at court, or even her own. But something so free and spirited. The girls h/c hair was let loose to her waist. E/c eyes, wild as the free forests beyond the walls. Maybe these thoughts were overly romantic. But Elia couldn’t help feeling them. “Your Grace.” She quickly jumped into a curtsy. “May I inquire about your name?” “Y/n of House Stark, Your Grace.” “Well, Y/n of House Stark, would you accompany me to the gardens?” The girl looked shocked, but not displeased (much to Elia’s relief). Y/n offered her arm, much in the way a knight might to his lady.
“It must be a very long way from Dorne. Do you find it cold here?” “Not much. Dorne is not always so hot. Do you find this too warm for you?” “A bit. It has been a cold winter.” The two of you had walked to the Weirwood Tree. Elia walked towards the tree and placed thin fingers upon its branch. The bark was like nothing she had felt before. It was both rough yet soft to the touch. “Isn't it beautiful.” Y/n’s fingers brushed the leaves. “Are there many of these trees up north?” Elia asked. “They're not all that common. You know we have one up at Winterfell.” A longing look passed over the girl's face. “Is everything well Lady Stark?” “It's just that this tree looks so lonely here. Weirwoods belong in the north.” At that moment, Elia knew this girl was as homesick as she herself was.
You had only been back at Winterfell for two months when Queen Rhaella sent for you. Lyanna had snuck up some lemon cakes from the kitchen. Benjin, Lyanna, and yourself were quite happy to finish. “Do you think we should share these with Brandon and Eddard?” Benjin took a bite out of the cake. Lyanna shook her head vigorously. “They’re too old for lemon cakes anyway.” Said you, older than Eddard and Brandon. That was when it happened. All three of you heard your father's footsteps down the hall. “Quick!” You covered the lemon cakes and shoved them under the bed. Not a moment later Lord Rickard Stark burst in, pride all over his face. “Y/n, you have been summoned to serve Princess Elia.” All three of you stood there, thunderstruck. It was Lyanna who burst out first. “What!?” She howled. Richard sent her a look and focused on you. “Y/n, may I speak with you?” It was with ill grace that Lyanna and Benjin left. Your father took a seat by the fireplace. You followed his example. “Y/n, as much of an honor this is, I want to make sure this is alright with you.” Lord Richard had always intended to sow roots in the south. But giving his eldest daughter to that pit of dragons, known as the Red Keep, made him pause. This was to be expected. You always knew one day you would leave. The court was stifling. You didn’t want to go. But you also didn’t want to let down your father. And then there was Princess Elia. She seemed sweet the last time you met her. “If it is your wish, so be it.”
Elia didn’t know why she was fussing over her appearance. Today she wore a Targaryen red. Elia didn’t like the colour. She wanted her oranges, yellows and whites back. King Aerys had a habit of giving unwanted comments regarding her Dornish style. She sat on a throne-like chair in her quarters, surrounded by her ladies. Among their numbers were Ashara Dayne, Malaria Sand and Nymeria Martell. At least she had been allowed to keep three of her friends. The doors swung open and Y/n entered. This time, her hair was done up. She wore soft blue fabric with wolves along the edges. “Your Grace.” You dipped into a curtsy. Elia stood up. “Lady Y/n, it is a pleasure to see you again.” Elia’s lips touched Y/’s cheek. It was cold as ice.
Despite how cold Y/n may have felt, everything else about her was warm. There was something about her voice, eyes and gentle hands that reminded Elia of the warm wind rolling over the sand. She was quiet, rarely voicing her opinion. But there was a tenderness Y/n showed that Elia had rarely felt. Perhaps it was the way Elia was used to being treated in Kings Landing. Y/n seemed to know what she needed. What she wanted. It was the small things. Like Y/n brushing her hair after a hard day, or making her a crown of Weirwood leaves.
Elia had never enjoyed rude health. That was what Nymeria Martell had told you. Though Elia tried to hide it, you could soon tell. She got exhausted quickly, sometimes had a delicate stomach and every month her period nearly made her collapse. Despite this all, she kept strong. That was what you admired about her. She truly embodied the words of her house. Unbowed. Unbend. Unbroken. She was a true lady. But you could tell that Elia wished for something more. One time, you had been training when Elia chanced upon you. At first you thought her angry. But you came to realize it was a longing. A longing to not be so constrained. So one day you decided to take her out for a ride. The rest of the ladies watched nervously as you helped Elia onto a steed. You had chosen a big northern horse. One that was stable and wouldn’t bolt. You got on behind Elia. Elia relaxed against you, black hair let loose. The wind whistled past you. Elia giggled as her fingertips brushed the leaves overhead. “Can you take me to the meadow?” “I am yours to command.” A laugh passed your lips. Just beyond this forest was a meadow owned by the royal family. “Over there!” Elia pointed to a warm spot with soft grass. Elia sat on the blanket you laid down. “I do think we have lost the rest!” It was another few minutes before the rest galloped into the clearing.
Later that night Elia found herself alone with Y/n, yet again. Elia, feeling better than most days, went for a walk with her. With laughter on her lips, Y/n gushed over the thrill of horse riding. Elia’s head rested against your shoulder, tired-eyed. Y/n sat down under the tree, bringing Elia with her. “Thank you Y/n.” Elia tangled her fingers with Y/n. “Would you like to do it again?” Elia nodded. Suddenly, she shivered. A wind had blown from the north. Not used to the cold, she shivered against Y/n. Immediately Y/n tossed off her cloak and put it over Elia’s shoulders. Her fingers went over the fine needlework. Despite their differences, one thing both girls were good at was sewing. On the back was the head of a dire wolf, the sigil of House Stark.
Elia’s first birth had been hard. You were woken by the feeling of something warm and wet against your thighs. At first, you thought Elia simply had an accident. But the metallic smell that reached you told a different story. Quickly you lit a candle and pulled back the sheet. Blood pooled between Elia’s legs. Gently so as not to alarm her, you woke Elia up. Before you could say anything Elia clutched her pelvis and moaned. You shook awake Lady Ashara and she in turn woke the midwife. Soon the room was bustling where once it had been quiet. You weren’t sure how long it lasted. Elia clutching your hand all the time. She bore the pain remarkably well. That was the price one paid with Elia’s condition. The midwives had Elia walk from one end of the room to the other. The sun was well in the sky when the midwife laid Elia down. “Y/n… if I die..” Your hand smoothed her black hair back. It burned to the touch. “Don’t say that. You’ve done so well.” Under your breath, you muttered old Northern prayers. Even a few to the Seven and Mother Royne. Finally, the baby came. A little girl, small and perfect. The midwife placed her in your trembling arms. “Elia, you did it.” Too weak to hold her baby, Elia touched the baby's chubby cheek. For one blessed moment, it was just you and Elia. Together in your world with the baby. Your serenity was broken. Rhaegar burst in. “My daughter! It’s a girl, right?” Relief swept through your veins. At least he would not be disappointed. Rhaegar took her from your arms. “We shall call her Rhaenys.”
Was it alarming how quickly Rhaegar had chosen the baby's name? Elia liked Rhaegar, perhaps even loved him. She took pleasure in their couplings, and he was kind. But recently something dark had settled over their lives. He spent more time at his desk reading rolls upon rolls of paper. Elia had tried to help, but he rejected any attempt. Rhaegar naming Rhaenys without her consent was the most startling. While most wives did bend to the will of their husbands. But even so, to make a decision like this without so much as consulting her was worrying. It also tickled her pride. Was she not his wife, a princess, and future Queen? Elia didn’t voice her frustrations, but the beginnings of resentment were starting to take root.
Elia had been absolutely bedridden. While Elia slept, you took Princess Rhaeneys outside to the courtyard. A wet nurse and nanny followed in your wake. The baby was swaddled in layers of soft fur. The baby took after Elia the most. With delicate features and short black hair. “Aren’t you the cutest little thing, hm?” Your finger brushed her forehead. “Lady Stark.” It was the King. The three of you sunk down into a curtsy. “Lady Stark, how is my wife?” “She is getting better, your Grace. Though still very tired. Would you like to hold your daughter?” You held out the baby. Rhaegar pressed himself very close. So close in fact that his nose was just inches from yours. Uncomfortable, you stepped back.
The Prince Who Was Promised. It was the prophecy passed down from ruler to heir for three hundred centuries. One day the Song of Ice and Fire would come, and the night of darkness driven away. He had correspondents in the North. And things were not looking peaceful beyond the wall. In fact, events progressed alarmingly fast. Wildlings were starting to form groups, and corpses rose where the sun did not dare shine. He needed the three heads of the dragon. He needed the Prince that was Promised. Elia had done well to fall pregnant quickly. And better yet, it was a girl. From the delicate look of her features and gentle purple eyes he knew her to be a Rhaenys. But there was always one part that bothered him. It said the Song of Ice and Fire. The fire aspect came in. But where the ice? Perhaps it would be his future Aegon’s wife, an ice bride. But could they wait that long? Would the Song of Ice and Fire come true in time? It had been another long night of scroll searching. After only a little sleep, he set out. The cold hair did well to rouse him from exhaustion. Rhaegar was strolling in the courtyard when he saw her. He recognized the lady as Y/n Stark, eldest daughter of Lord Stark. The second their eyes met, Rhaegar's chest contracted. Now this was a Visenya. With a wild, harsh beauty and muscles defined by years of training. Almost without thinking he walked up to her. He didn’t even hear what she had to say. This was ice.
Rhaegar was visiting more frequently. It was sweet to see him hold his daughter and sing to her. He even spent time with her ladies, dancing and singing to them. At first, like many, you found this change quite nice. Who wouldn’t want to be sung to by a prince? But Rhaegar had an ulterior motive. You never liked the way he gripped you. It was like vines over brick. Like he might bind himself to you. At first, you convinced yourself it was all in the head. But Rhaegar had a habit of suddenly popping up in unexpected places. Before, you had hardly exchanged a word. Now, he seemed to be everywhere.
“I hear blue roses grow in Winterfell.” Elia had gone to change for bed, leaving you and Rhaegar in the same room. He had stopped you from leaving. It was awkward to say the least, sitting here so closely to the Prince, a married one at that. “Yes, they grow in our greenhouse.” You replied. He was looking at you so intently. “And I assume they are very beautiful.” “I think so. My sister likes to make them into crowns.” “Tell me about your sister.” “Lyanna has only just turned thirteen. You saw her at the wedding, brown hair and gray eyes.” “And does she use a sword like you do?” “Yes, and horse riding is a passion of hers.” Suddenly, Rhaegar’s hand came up to your face. He brushed strands of hair out of your face. “I wouldn’t mind bringing blue roses to Kings Landing, My Lady.” Your heart dropped.
You now knew what his intentions were. Despite your lack of romantic interaction, it was obvious. And why in the name of the Old Gods did it have to be you! Rhaegar, unlike most previous Princes, had the reputation for being faithful to his wife. So why is he focused on you?! Your greatest fear was that Elia would find out. Would she hate you? The thought made you puke.
Elia was pregnant six months after her ordeal. That was when Rhaegar had the brilliant idea that the best place for Elia was Dragonstone. And my Gods was it the worst place you had ever visited. It was damp and cold. Elia spent most days bundled under the furs of her bed. For once her work remained undone. Elia had truly hit her limit. One night, you had finished singing a sleeping Elia a Roynish lullaby, when Rhaegar came in. Your hands tightened. “Lady Y/n, I see my wife is asleep.” “Yes.” You hoped he would leave. Instead he walked over and sat on the bed. You didn’t know whether to leave or stay. “I hear you are unmarried, My Lady.” You knew where this was going. “My father intends for me to marry Lord Baratheon.” You wanted to squash any ideas he might have. “You need not marry him, or is that your wish?” Was he serious!? Of course you would! At that moment it became too much. “Please Your Grace, I am very exhausted and am unable to entertain you any longer.” Your voice trembled with suppressed fear and rage. Something in Rhaegar’s Valyrian purple eyes changed and he gripped your hand. “Meet me in the caves, tomorrow after breakfast.”
Breakfast was hard to stomach. You could feel Rhaegar's eyes on you. It became too much. You vomited. That was all you could do after breakfast. Stumbling to the lavatory you hunched over. “Y/n!” Elia caught you by the arm. Steadying yourself against her, it was hard to walk. She walked you out of the room. Unfortunately, someone followed you. “Lady Y/n, I’ve been seeking your company.” Of course, it was Rhaegar. Because he couldn’t help turning up at unpleasant moments. “I think Y/n better rest.” Elia lead you away. “Wait.” Rhaegar had seized your arm. What happened next shocked you. The second Rhaegar had you, Elia tore his hand off. “She is unwell.” There was a steely bite to her voice. Before Rhaegar could do anything more, Elia led you away.
Fire and Blood. The famous saying of house Targaryen. But what of House Martell? Was their sigil not the sun? Perhaps Rhaegar was under the assumption that the blood of Martell was not as hot as his. Well, he was about to discover otherwise. Rhaegar had been reading his scrolls when Elia burst in, without ceremony. Never in her life had Elia felt so enraged. For the first time it was impossible to bottle her feelings up. Her fingers itched to tear at his face. She actually hated him. Elia had noticed a change in Y/n’s demeanor as of late. Where once she had been happy and cherrful, now Y/n was like a shadow. How when Rhaegar visited Y/n shrunk away. Every time Rhaegar approached Y/n, which was alarmingly often, she recoiled from his touch. The day when Elia had fallen asleep in her arms, she woke to Rhaegar storming off. Y/n, still clinging to her, sobbing openly. Something akin to jealousy stirred up in Elia’s chest. But much stronger like a storm. It had a grip on her heart. It kicked at her stomach. This was a different sickness. Instead of being laid low, it made her want to rage “You keep away from her.” Elia’s hands slammed into the table, fingernails piercing its surface. “Whom do you speak of?” Rhaegar looked up at her coolly. “You know who. Do not play a fool with me, Rhaegar Targaryen.” Rhaegar set down the scrolls. “Elia, the purpose of this matter is much greater than you and I.” Elia let out a derisive snort. “Getting your prick wet is hardly a great matter.” “I believe it is time to tell you. Elia, I must tell you the Song of Ice and Fire.”
“He’s as mad as his father.” Elia lay awake that night. Did he truly need Y/n for this “prophecy”. No wonder the Targaryens went mad, if they all followed this. Elia turned over to where Y/n lay. This past year Y/n had been the one to sleep beside her when Rhaegar was nose-deep in scrolls. While it was not required, Elia hated being alone. Y/n turned, facing Elia. She looked so calm, so peaceful. Elia held her cold hand, she then moved closer. That night, Elia swore nothing would ever happen to Y/n.
And so Elia kept her word. She always had someone report on Rhaegr’s whereabouts. Elia’s first thought had been to dismiss Y/n. It would be painful, but Y/n would be safer there. Perhaps Rhaegar would forget about her and one day Elia could invite Y/n back. But Rhaegar would never let her. There was one alarming change. Rhaegar was now letting Elia in on his research. How there would be a great Prince to vanquish the Others. Elia hated thinking about it, but at least she knew what Rhaegar was up to.
“Elia look!” The morning you received a gift from your sister. Lyanna had taken blue winter roses and tried them, pressed between two pieces of glass. The picture was lovely.
Sister,
I hope you are well. I hope these roses find you soon. Given you are stuck on Dragonstone. There are many this year. When you visit, there will probably be more. Dad has currently grounded me because I poured wine on Brandon’s head. Which was unfair because he was making fun of me. The only satisfaction I have is that Brandon can no longer visit the whore houses, at least for the next week. But I don’t see why I need be punished.
Everyone is doing well. Benjin is still annoying, father and Eddard send their love. Ps. There are socks for the Princess Rhaenys.
Love,
Lyanna Stark
You pulled out a pair of socks. They were actually quite nicely sewn.
“Your sister wrote to you? What did she say?” Elia looked over. “She sends me her love. And socks for the Princess.” “Well I am very grateful. I shall send my thanks.” Elia picked up the Princess from her colt. “Shall we?” The two of you liked to take walks by the ocean. It was nice and soothing and briefly banished all your troubles. You had taken off your shoes, sand between your toes. “Would you like go to back to Winterfell?” Elia asked. “I do miss home. Father may call me back for my marriage.” You said. But you wondered if Rhaegar would let you. While he had left you alone, it was still scary. The fear that Rhaegar might resume his advances was frightening. “If at any point you wish to.” Normally you would have not thought twice about saying yes. But something didn’t sit well with you. Why was Elia so eager for you to leave? Usually, Elia was hard put to have you leave her side. And the timing was suspect in itself. You finally voiced your fears.
“Rhaegar’s been confronting me as of late.” You had to get it out. As much as you loathed it. The secret was banging against your chest, begging to get out. “I know.” Elia sighed. Your legs buckled, tears bringing themself to the surface. “I didn’t want it.” You sobbed. Your shoes dropped as tears spilled over. Your hands clutched at your chest as if that might alleviate the pain. Your body fell to the ground. Elia came down with you, one arm around your shoulder. Her lips brushed against you hairline. “I know my dear, I know.” But you couldn’t stop crying. The relief you felt was enormous. As stressful as the situation had been, at least you knew Elia didn’t blame you. The sea crashed in the distance and seemed to come to a standstill as you rested against Elia. You cried into her shoulder for what felt like ages. “I’m sorry. I’ve gotten my tears all over your dress.” You sniffed. Elia laughed and pulled you further into her embrace. “It’s just a dress, you're more important.” Baby Rhaenys cooed between you two. Elia ran a finger down the bridge of her nose. “I think Rhaenys needs to go inside.” Both of you stood up. “Elia, could I have a moment alone?” Her hand stroked your cheek. You wanted some time alone. Your emotions were so on edge you might explode.
You watched Elia walk back inside. It was only when Elia went inside that you continued on your way. Getting cold feet, literally, you slipped on your shoes and went to the cliffside. The wind whipped around like a tempest. You allowed the wind to ruffle your hair. Maybe this is why Targaryens came here. There was a sense of peace you got from the elements. It was as if the wind might carry your pain away. Your eyes closed, letting emotion take over. You fell, fingers digging into cold, tough soil. Your nails cried out from the strength in which they were forced into the ground. A cold, hard breath left your body, carried away by the wind. Throwing your head back, you sent a prayer to the wind. Only the gray sky above was witness to your cry. Or so you thought.
“Lady Stark.” A cold, shaking hand clasped on your trembling lips. You couldn’t bring yourself to turn around. He came closer, one footstep after another, the ground giving way to his wake. Legs became stiff as lead. A strong hand seized your shoulder. “Lady Stark, please turn.” Only doing so when he put pressure on the shoulder that you unwillingly turned. Acid rose up in your throat. “Your Grace…please.” Tears fell freely. You didn’t care about dignity anymore. Right now all you knew was exhaustion and fear. “Y/n, I know this is unprompted, but there is information I must divulge.”Rhaegar’s eyes looked desperate and wild. There was a flame in those dark purple eyes. It was like you could feel the heat emanating from them, like wildfire. “Elia is not ice. I need a child of fire and ice." “You’re Grace, the Princess has already given you a healthy daughter. And it would be beneath my honor to have a bastard.” “Not a bastard My Lady, a prince.” A wild laugh burst from your lips, arms breaking free from his grip. Alarmed, Rhaegar stepped back. You must have looked mad yourself, hair freely flying behind you, eyes wide and savage. “Make no mistake My Prince. You will never have me or my love if that is what you are after. And when I bear a child it shall not be with a dragon. Dragons do not fare well in the cold.” “Ice is just what I desire. The Prince that was Promised, the Three-Headed Dragon. Elia can not give me that.” You feel to your knees, angry tears tearing at your skin. “You would…… you would abandon your wife for what!? You are mad!” Rhaegar knelt down to your level, hand on your chin. You broke. Rhagar howled as sharp teeth drove into his pale skin. You were thrown to the ground with the state of blood overcoming the scenes. “So this is how it is. I shall leave you to your own devices then.” He spat. Rhaegar walked away.
The next few days were spent in silent terror. You had harmed a Prince, treason. Even the daughter of Lord Rickard Stark was not immune to the rules. Hiding under the covers at night, you expected guards to come in at any moment. But to your surprise and delight, Rhaegar had left you alone. However, that didn’t mean this was the end. Elia suspected something was wrong. She was constantly by your side, more than usual. In public you were side by side, arms linked. But soon news came that caused a flurry of excitement. A tourney was being held at Harrenhal. Soon everything was being packed up and ready to leave that dreary rock. Maybe you would feel better once off Dragonstone.
Arriving at Kings Landing was a blessed relief. Even the tall red walls were better than windswept Dragonstone. Two days later, your family arrived. “Lyanna!” Forgoing courtesies, you left Elia’s side to hug your sister. Since you had last seen her, Lyanna had gotten taller. Her dark brown hair was long and tidy, cheeks a rosy glow. Lyanna practically jumped on you in her excitement. “Y/n! I’ve missed you so!” One of Elia’s ladies made an “ahem” noise and the two of you quickly broke apart. “Princess, this is my sister, Lady Lyanna Stark.” Lyanna curtsied, you noticed she had improved. “It is a pleasure to meet you, Lady Lyanna. Your sister tells me much.” Lyanna blushed. “Good things, I hope.” Elia laughed at the jest. “Very. Now how about we enjoy these lemon cakes and you tell me stories about Y/n when she was younger.” The rest laughed as you groaned.
The mood in Elia’s solar was pleasant. Lyanna seemed to enjoy eating cake and telling ever embarrassing stories about your childhood. “And then she fell right into the pigpen.” Lyanna laughed. “Only because you pushed me.” You snorted, giving her a gentle swat. Elia looked happier than she had in a long while, baby Rhaeneys situated on her lap. For that short time, no one had any worries. Until Rhaegar arrived. Elia’s smile faded and the sun was put out. The rest of you shrunk back as if confronted by the plague. The only person who seemed to be unfazed was Lyanna. “Your Grace.” She said and then sat back down. He walked over and pressed a kiss to Elia’s cheek. “My Love, I hope you are well.” But Rhaegar’s eyes were not on you, but Lyanna's. “Fire and Ice.” You had not known what Rhaegar meant by those words. It was only now that he was looking at Lyanna did you realize. If he could not have you, he would have her.
Your maid had just finished brushing your hair when a knock sounded at the door. “Who is it?” The maid called out. “It’s me.” Lyanna’s voice called out. “Let her in.” The door opened and a muddy, flushed Lyanna stumbled in, a grin wide over her face. “Prince Rhaegar let me join in on the hunt.” Your blood froze. Even breathing took great effort. “Please leave us.” The maid curtsied and departed. It was only when her footsteps faded did you speak. “Lyanna, what exactly did he do?” “Well, I was in the courtyard practicing my archery when he saw me! Honestly, I thought he would tell me off, but instead, he let me hunt some stag! It was so much fun!” Poor Lyanna. At fourteen, the girl did not realize the Prince’s intentions were not so innocent. “Lyanna, I believe he is trying to court you.” Your insides squirmed at the words, but she needed to hear them. The thought of Rhaegar taking advantage of your innocent sister made you physically ill. At first, Lyanna laughed. But when she realized you weren't jesting, those laughs turned into sobs. You pulled your sister into a hug, hand brushing her hair. "I swear I didn’t do anything.” Her tears stained your nightgown. “It’s okay, I don’t blame you one bit.” You let Lyanna sleep in your bed that night. After a cup of hot milk and honey, she went to sleep. But you stayed awake all night, thinking about what to do next.
Lyanna was in your presence at all hours. However, your duties conflicted with your plans. During dinner, you had to leave with Elia. Ever since her second pregnancy quickened her breasts had been swollen and red. You had only left Elia when she was in bed. You’d gone for a walk when Lyanna ran into Y/n. She was pale with red eyes. Wordlessly she flung her arms around your waist, fingers clutching the fabric. “Has Rhaegar bothered you again!” “Yes, yes he has! I was riding by myself when he came up to me. I tried to shake him off when he caught up and insisted we ride together.” “Did he do anything?” “He touched my hand. “And that is all?” “Yes, I promise.” Relief. At least he had not taken her maidenhead. But that did not mean you weren’t angry. “Go to bed Lyanna, I will deal with him tomorrow. It was time for the dragons to realize wolves too had fangs.
Requesting a meeting with the Prince terrified you. But Lyanna being in danger was far more horrifying. So that was why on a cold night, you stood in front of Rhaegar’s large oak door, the three-headed dragon carved into its surface. The torches gave the entrance an eerie atmosphere. You heard him call you in. Into the dragon's den, you went.
You had never been to Rhaegar’s solar before. It was a quiet, mysterious place. The circular wall was lined with shelves. The only light came from the fireplace, above the mantel held a curved blade. “Lady Y/n. I admit, I had not expected you to request an audience.” Dangerous. That was the only word you could describe his voice. Each syllable dripped off his tongue like poison. A predator ready to strike. “I wish to speak to you regarding my sister, Lady Lyanna.” Your fingernails dug into your palms. “ Yes. Your sister is quite lovely. A credit to your house.” A slight smirk made its way onto his face. “I am aware, My Prince. But I worry that your attentions may be taken as…..something more than they should not be.” Rhaegar’s eyes flashed something fierce and a malevolent smirk stretched over his lips. “So now that another has my heart you want me?” Flabbergasted. Was Rhaegar so enraptured by the prophecy that he could not see sense?! “My Prince, she is my sister and engaged to Lord Tyrell. If you pursue her Lyanna;s prospects will be ruined.” Rhaegar’s purple eyes hardened as his elbows rested on his knees. “Lady Y/n, if you accept my proposal I would not need to pursue Lady Lyanna.” You seemed unable to breathe through your mouth. Lungs barely able to circulate air. Rhaegar got to his feet, walking towards you. His large hands placed themselves on your shoulders, his lips inches from yours. Warm breath hits your chest, the skin heating up. “Please…..she’s so young.” You clutched his hands imploringly. There was not even room to cry, every organ in your body was ice. His hand cupped your cheek, getting closer. You could now taste his breath. Before Rhaegar knew it, you had fled.
A snake and a wolf lay together in the darkness. The heaviness of your situation suffocating. “Lyanna needs to go back north.” Elia’s hand held yours. “I know. The tournament will be over tomorrow.” Elia attempted to console you. “But what if he tries to harm Lyanna before then?!” Tears choked your lungs. Elia hushed you gently and wrapped her arms around you. The snake coiled herself gently around her wolf.
It was only by pure chance that you figured out Rhaegar’s plan. You had woken early that morning, clad in a simple blue dress and shawl. This morning had a cold touch in the wind, reminding you of Winterfell. Oh how you would like to go back to those days. Harenhall still bore the marks from Aegon’s attack all those centuries ago. A man whose belief in his divine right to rule was so strong he took over six kingdoms. This castle was just a remnant of this pride. Targaryen's had always been this way, taking what they want. You walked out onto the balcony overlooking the courtyard. Looking down below, you recognize a familiar curtain of silver hair. With haste, you made to disappear before he might look up and see you. That was until something caught your eye. Rhaegar had in his hands a crown of blue winter roses. Roses that only grew in Winterfell. This did not sit right with you. He must be making it for the tourney today. But why would he go to such lengths to get blue roses for this one occasion? Most would believe that this was a touching gesture from Rhaegar to Elia. But why winter roses? Why not flowers from Dorne? Rage choked you. How dare he. How fucking dare he! You wanted to claw his eyes out and feed him to the wolves. No matter what, Rhaegar would pursue his desires. He was a dragon. A dragon you wanted to defang. You looked down at the young prince. Had he cared to look up, Rhaegar would have seen a she-wolf staring right down at him.
You had gained sickness when Elia woke up. The sad look on her face made you ill, but this needed to be done. Once everyone was gone, you slipped out of bed and hurried to Benjin’s room. Only Benjin and Lyanna knew what you were up to. “I think this will fit you.” Lyanna held up a breastplate. Benjin helped put on your armor as Lyanna handed him pieces. “All done!” Benjin admired his handiwork. You ruffled his dark hair. Lyanna was rummaging under the bed. “Lyanna? Everything alright?” “Yes.” Lyanna grunted. She hauled out a shield and turned it over. On its surface was a Weirwood tree. “Shall we start?” Lyanna asked. Grimly, you and Benjin nodded.
All that could be heard were the horse's thundering hooves. All your energy was put into defeating this latest opponent. Though you had jousted before, never had your limits been pushed thus. Your left arm was screaming in pain. Every time the pain became too much to bear, you looked up to Elia, Lyanna and Benjin. Only Lyanna and Benjin knew the truth. Yet the way Elia’s eyes followed you made you think she knew. Finally, you made it to the final round. In all honesty, you hadn’t expected to make it this far. But this was it. This was why you had entered the arena and this fight. “I announce, Prince Rhaegar Targaryen!” A roar louder than the waves against Storm’s End came up from the stands. He was clad in true Targaryen armor, making him look like the dragon he was. But even dragons were not invincible. The Dornish had brought down Meraxes, and by all the old Gods you would take down this one. Your lances lowered, it had begun.
You and Elia saw under the Weirwood Tree. Elia’s head lay in your lap while you made a crown of weirwood leaves. You told her the story of Aemon the dragonknight and his love Naerys. Whether it was romantic or the love a brother had for a sister was unknown. But it comforted you to think that the sad Queen Naerys had someone by her side. The path of a Queen or princess was lonely, as you had witnessed. Elia had always been a princess from the day of her birth. In Dorne there were the vipers that never harmed their precious princess. The same could not be said of Kings Landing. Elia opened her brown eyes and smiled at you. “What's this?” She asked, eyeing the leaf crown. “Something for the tourney.” “For Brandon?” You gave her a sly smile. “Not so your grace.” If the vipers could not protect Elia, then this lone wolf would.
It all happened in one moment. People in the audience were not even sure what had happened. Two great beasts had launched at each other. In the end, it was the mysterious Weirwood tree knight who remained standing. And then a shriek arose from the crowd. Of shock, surprise, excitement, and wonder. This knight with no name had unhorsed the prince. The knight's white stallion trotted over the squire who handed her a crown of Weirwood leaves and orange Dornish flowers. And went right up to the Princess. Elia stood on the balcony. Instead of shock or horror, her face held something no one but the princess and her knight knew. Their eyes met and at least for that day, as Elia set the crown upon her brow, everything was right in the world.

I Hold You (Oberyn Martellxf!reader) one shot
Tumblr media
Summary: Oberyn has a nightmare about his sister's death, which makes him fear that he will lose you too.
Warning: angst, hurt/comfort, canonical death of a character, tragic death, blood, mention of rape…
Title inspired by the song: CLANN - I Hold You
A/N: I am obsessed with thinking, how tragic and terrible was the fate of Elia Martell.
Also, watch this: Robert's Rebellion by Oberyn Martell
Tumblr media
Hot air blew across their faces as they ran through the courtyard filled with the Dornish sun. From time to time, the shadow of the palm trees growing along the courtyard fell on them. Her dark hair bounced on her shoulders and her bare feet hit on the ground.
She held his hand tightly. With strength so contrasting to her petite body.
And she laughed. Oh… What a sweet sound that was. Like the nectar they drank for breakfast in the morning.
He didn't resist her as she pulled him towards the fountain. He never resisted her.
Even though she was weaker and so delicate, she was able to capture anyone's heart, especially his. She walked gracefully among the vipers and knew that no one would dare to hurt her. And if someone like that was found, he would make sure that such a fool suffered unimaginable torment.
Oberyn loved her like no one else. His sweet sister. Elia Martell. His friend, confidant of secrets, and comforter. He spent so many long hours with his head on her lap as she ran her hand through his raven hair and explained to him that not everything could be solved by force. And that he can't be mad all the time. She taught him how to read poetry. For her, he began writing poems.
She wasn't just his sister. She was part of him. An integral part of his wild soul. It was like a cozy, cool hole in which an angry desert viper hid when the desert heat was deadly.
When she jumped into the fountain and started splashing water on him, he laughed happily and his dark eyes sparkled. She took a step back so that the water flowing from the marble snake's mouth soaked her head. She waved her hand at him, encouraging him to do the same. He wanted to do it and feel the pleasant coolness of the water. But when he took a step forward, the water flowing down his sister's head turned red. His heart stopped and she looked at him in surprise, as if she hadn't realized that her face was turning red with blood.
She extended her hand towards him. With a heavy heart, the prince took a step closer but stopped when he noticed the bodies of two children floating in the red water. He heard his sister scream as she was now holding her dress covered in blood. She lifted the material up, revealing her thighs covered in slippery goo and blood.
He felt bile rising in his throat and struggled to find his voice.
"Elia," he croaked. "Do not leave me!"
His sister looked at him with eyes full of suffering, and suddenly her face turned into yours. The prince suddenly stretched his hand towards you, grabbed your dress, and shouted:
"NO!"
*
Oberyn woke up and sat on the bed, breathing heavily. His body was covered in sweat, his hair was stuck to his forehead, and he felt a bitter taste in his mouth. He glanced sideways at you and his heart tightened. You looked so peaceful as you slept next to him, still with a blissful smile on your face after he took proper care of you and brought you to multiple orgasms.
He carefully leaned over you and brushed your hair away from your face. You lived, you breathed and you were fine. And yet he couldn't shake the feeling that your life was as fragile as his sister's was. You reminded him so much of her. You were delicate and intelligent, sensitive and full of empathy. It was both a blessing and a curse for him. Sometimes he even thought that it was his sister's spirit that put you on his path. To remember again what it's like to have someone he will trust with all his heart and who will surround him with care and love.
Oberyn sighed heavily and moved away from your warm body. He sat on the edge of the bed and was lost in his thoughts. He was the best warrior in Dorne, and yet he failed to protect his sister. What if he fails you? Would you be safer without him? No... He shook his head. The thought of not knowing where you were or what was happening to you was even more terrifying to him.
While he was lost in his thoughts, you woke up and immediately realized what the problem was. This wasn't the first time he had nightmares. Your sweet prince was full of life every day, full of jokes... He was also arrogant, conceited, and proud, but when nightmares came, he was sad and needed support. His entire demeanor changed and you saw a side that few people saw.
You carefully stood up and sat down behind him. You hugged him from behind and placed your chin on his shoulder. You didn't say anything, you just waited for him to speak.
Oberyn sighed, feeling the comforting warmth of your body against his back. In moments like these, he was grateful for your love and understanding. You were a special woman to him. He had never opened up to any other lovers like he did to you. And maybe that's why, paradoxically, he had nightmares more often than before.
He placed his hand on top of yours, which was resting on his belly.
"I'm fine... You can go back to sleep... I'm sure you're still tired from what we did." He tried to make his voice sound convincing, but you could hear the note of sadness and desperation.
You nuzzled his neck as a signal that you weren't going anywhere and tightened your grip. For a moment, a small smile appeared on his face. Then he sighed and took a few deep breaths. And finally, he whispered:
"I saw her again... First it was a memory from our youth. Happy life at Sunspear. We ran to the fountain to cool off..." His voice suddenly became quieter and trembling. "When she entered the water... The water turned to blood, and then... Her face... Her..."
You noticed a tear rolling down his cheek and hugged him even tighter. You pressed your lips against his cheek, feeling the salty taste.
"Her face turned into yours…" Oberyn finished and you sighed softly.
Sometimes you would give anything to take this pain and these terrible memories away from him. Not only were you hurt by your loved one's suffering, but by poor Elia's suffering. When you first heard her story, you cried. You didn't know her, but it seemed so unfair what happened to her and her children. And even though House Lannister had done nothing wrong to you, you hated them as much as Oberyn did.
However, you knew that no one in the world had the power to undo what had already happened. Living in memories led nowhere. So instead of thinking about the past, you focused on the present and comforting your loved one.
"But I'm here... And I'm holding you. You feel my warmth and my breath."
Oberyn nodded.
"But what if one day I can't protect you from the horrors of this world?"
You thought for a moment. His question was one that had no easy answer. Neither of you could promise that nothing bad would happen. You finally answered slowly.
"If something bad happens to me, I will be sure that you did everything to protect me. And I will die with the feeling that I was loved... And that I will be mourned."
Oberyn took a shaky breath and gripped your hands tighter. Your answer was honest, painful and... somehow comforting. But... No, he didn't do everything to protect you. Suddenly he turned towards you and cupped your face in his hands.
"Be my wife."
"What?"
His sudden reaction took you by surprise. The candlelight reflected in his brown eyes, and you could see the sincerity in them. It definitely wasn't one of his jokes or teasing.
"Be my wife." He repeated, his voice becoming more confident, almost demanding, even though you knew he would never force you to do anything.
"I thought that... That you didn't want this... That you were comfortable with our relationship."
Oberyn smiled softly at you and rubbed his thumb against your cheek.
"Because it suits me, but... As strange as it may sound, since I found you, I no longer need other women and I want to provide you with even greater security. And this will happen when you gain the title of princess. Hurting a prince's lover is not the same as hurting his wife. Everyone will think twice. Besides, if something happens to me, you will be left with my estate and under the full protection of the Martell family."
You frowned and looked away from him, and he didn't understand your reaction. He thought you would be happy.
"What happened, my love?" He asked tenderly and gently grabbed your chin, forcing you to look at him.
"You talk about marriage like a business. Something that will make you sleep soundly at night."
He finally realized what the problem was and immediately kissed your forehead.
"Oh, forgive me, my desert flower. It wasn't meant to sound like that. Your safety is important here, but... I want you to be my wife because I love you like no one else. Because you are part of my heart and the air that I breathe. Because I can't imagine a day without your kiss, without your look. I just want to make official what I have known for a long time... I am yours and only yours."
Even if you tried, you couldn't stop the smile that appeared on your face. His words easily warmed your heart and all you could do was whisper:
"I agree."
Oberyn smiled and kissed you gently on the lips. However, you could see that he still hadn't fully recovered from the nightmare. So you stroked his jaw and pulled him towards the center of the bed. You knew that in the morning you would want to discuss your wedding and that you would have many questions, but you knew that you both needed to rest.
"Let's go back to sleep. You're tired."
You could tell he wanted to argue with you, but you had a trick up your sleeve. You laid on your back and patted your belly and you knew he would always take him up on that offer. It was his favorite way to fall asleep after a nightmare. He always wrapped his arms around your waist and buried his head in your lap as you stroked his hair soothingly.
It was like that this time too.
He snuggled into your body and you started stroking his dark hair.
"Rest now, my love. It's all right. I'm here and I'm holding you."
Oberyn closed his eyes, listening to your calm voice. The fear of losing you was still there in him, and he squeezed you a little tighter as if hoping that the gods wouldn't be able to break you free from his grasp.
"I've got you." He whispered and slowly fell into sleep, hoping he wouldn't have another nightmare.
Rest now, my love It's all right The dark is gone I am here I hold you

Love and hate is the same
• Time travel was a very bitter thing, Yn decided. To see the people long dead should have made him happy but it hurt a lot. Yn lived so many years full with his past mistakes and regrets that his brain just couldn’t catch up with not seeing the consequences of the past. Waking up and realizing that yes that very strange lady in Asshai didn’t lie and he was in the past was easy. Realizing that he didn’t have his friends-companions- was harder. But he accepted it since he theoretically knew what would happen if he travels back in time. Seeing his own face, so young and unmarked by the last decade, didn’t faze him. Seeing his old room, the old servants, the old stable that was burned down by the Lannisters, his old and mostly dead acquaintances didn’t faze him. But seeing him did.
• Yn felt like somebody pulled a rug from under him. It didn’t only hurt, it burned through his whole being. His head and heart was full with longing, love and anger. He loved his silver prince and yearned for him but he couldn’t forget what he had done. Rhaegar left him, his own wife and children and doomed them and the kingdom. This mixture of feelings left his knees weak and had it not been for the stone railing Yn was sure that he would have kneeled over. He still didn’t notice him, too deep in a conversation with Arthur, his sister and Elia. Yn was thankful for this. He watched Rhaegar and his companions, thinking about what he had to do, until Ashara noticed him and looked deep in Yn‘s eyes. They stared at each other, and when Yn looked away he accidentally caught Rhaegar‘s eyes. Yn felt a butterflies in his stomach, the intensity almost made him throw up, but shame followed. And with shame came anger. The kind that burns through the soul and leaves the body hot and trembling. The kind that makes the heart heavy. The kind that you can only get after having your hearth broken in thousand tiny pieces.
• It all began when they were neither children nor adults. It was that awkward phase when they limbs suddenly grown but they couldn’t control them right. After Rhaegar has stolen a book about bed activities and a wine flask they got so drunk that Yn wasn’t able to stand up straight. They red the book loud to each other while sipping wine and Rhaegar leaned over to Yn and kissed him. While it surprised Yn, he kissed back and from one point to the other they were naked in front of the fire place. After decades Yn still couldn’t forgot the hard rug and the slight burn from them. They touched each other in a way before that neither experienced. It was magical. It felt good. And right. Of course, they continued the activities and sought enjoyment in each other companies but it was years later that they confessed. Yn wasn’t sure until that day what Rhaegar felt but the words he whispered to him made Yn warm up to this day. The intensity of Rhaegar‘s love made everyday worth living for Yn. Sadly it didn’t last. They knew that Rhaegar had to marry and after failed attempts at finding Rhaegar the bride his father wished, Elia came. At first Yn wasn’t bothered but after repeatedly seeing and hearing how well they got along Yn became jealous. Looking back it wasn’t his brightest moment but who could fault a lover for being jealous of his love slowly falling in love with somebody else?
• They argued a lot. Rhaegar denied his accusations but Yn know the truth. Maybe Rhaegar wasn’t fully in love with Elia but he liked her enough to do his duty. At the end of the day he was man who was blessed with a beautiful albeit sickly wife who gave him two children. It was enough. And this broke Yn heart. Yn felt slighted, although he didn’t know why, angry, and desperate. He wished for Rhaegar, his first friend and lover, the friend whom he trained with, watched the stars, read old books and laughed. The lover that made him feel like he was loved, was worth something beautiful, and a lover who accepted his love. But when it crashed down for the first time Yn couldn’t say what he felt because he was painfully young. So when Rhaegar begann to talk less and less with Yn, barely kissed him and they almost never truly talked, Yn became frustrated. The confrontation went as good as expected. The fought intensely, but not loudly. It was quick but hearth breaking. At the end, after telling each other the slights they felt like they suffered, Rhaegar just shook his head and told Yn that they needed some time apart. Yn took it stone faced and left. Only when he was alone in his chambers did he cry.
• Yn guessed that he traveled back in time after they argued. Nobody moved, the garden was silent and only a shout of Yn name snapped him out of it. He quickly turned around and walked towards a boy who was calling him. At first Yn didn’t even understand what was going on and why he was asked to meet with a friend in a tavern somewhere in Flea Bottom. But he felt excited when he realized who was waiting for him. After Yn left Westeros, he went to the Golden Company and met Carl the Small. Smallcarl, as he was called, wasn’t actually small but Bigcarl was at least two feet higher than an average man. Years later Yn contract ended and Carl and he decided to leave the Company with others to see the world. They adventure took them from the Shadowland to beyond Westeros and it brought both Carl and Yn closer. They were friends but sometimes when they needed a body than they went beyond brotherhood. But that didn’t change their friendship. Currently Yn only trusted him and some of his friends from the adventures the most. Before Yn payed the shadowwitch, they decided to meet in Kings Landing and try to change destiny. A hard decisions but the trust between them went deep.
• The meeting at a run down tavern lifted Yn spirits. Seeing Carl, Jonny and Majki always brought a sense of security in Yn hearth so he left with his heart lightened to do his task. Before he left, Carl hugged him and kissed his head and they agreed to meet in a few days. The second meeting went even better. They agreed on what to do, where to beginn and when. Yn left few hours later. He walked back in silence and only the darkness was around him, however he couldn’t shake of the feeling that something was wrong.
• Yn arrived to his room and after opening the door, he stopped in his track. The hearth which he left cold was now omitting warmness, there was wine and two fancy glasses on a table that he has never seen before and Rhaegar was sitting on his bed. Looking at the rumpled sheets he must have slept, Yn thought. But before he could utter a word Rhaegar stood up and motioned him towards the table. The only thing that he said was to close the door. And Yn did while trying to escape his memories.
• A week after the confrontation Yn couldn’t hold himself anymore and went back to Rhaegar. But the relationship couldn’t be safed. After Rhaegar stole Lyanna and they ended up in the Tower of Joy, they talked. Rhaegar ordered Yn in his room, waited for him with some dornish wine and when Yn declined he seemed disappointed. However when they sat down any kind of love went out of Rhaegar and he was like a block of ice. It was sad. Truly the sight of somebody you loved not loving you anymore was very heart breaking. Still Yn sat through Rhaegar‘s speech of the prophecy, of the Song of Ice and Fire and why he had to do it. It! He could tell Yn that he love him, which was clearly a lie, than in the same sentence he said that he was going to fuck the girl. And the stupid, young Yn said that he was going to stay with Rhaegar and help him! This one was his biggest shame. Supporting a man who betrayed his love, wife, children and kingdom.
• So Yn stayed and endured. He endured the courting, the kisses and loving glances. His heart broke every single time but he endured. Until the night that he had to stay before Rhaegar’s room. Lyanna went inside without looking who was protecting them. Arthur and Yn. Looking back Yn guessed that Rhaegar didn’t know who were his guards for the night but maybe it was only Yn‘s wish. He stood next to the door, listening to them having sex, until he felt like a mist before his eyes has dissolved. The bitterness spread through Yn and he didn’t even try to stop it. His love went away, replaced with a mixture of hate and hurt. The realization which he always know but never accepted made him weak. Rhaegar may have truly loved him once but it was gone. Somebody who is in love wouldn’t do this. He was angry and disappointed and tired. He just wanted to leave and never look back. His skin itched for being alone in his room to think through what he was doing to do so he just left. Arthur didn’t even try to stop him. Yn never looked back. He went in his room but it didn’t help. He craved for something he didn’t even know. Yn packed the necessities and left for somewhere.
• To see the person he hated and loved for years left Yn shaken. Rhaegar was pouring wine for both of them and sat down on the floor leaning against Yn‘s bed. While Yn did the same, however he sat down as far from Rhaegar as he could, he sipped his wine looking in the fireplace. After a few seconds that felt like hours of silence, Rhaegar turned to Yn and asked a question that left Yn surprised.
• „ Who ist Carl?“
• Yn tried to come up with an answer and Rhaegar waited. Lamely Yn only said that he was a friend. He regretted his answer after seeing Rhaegar’s face. The hurt was palpable on face. Only silence followed until Rhaegar drank his glass of wine and asked for more. When Yn handed the flask over Rhaegar softly shook his head and asked him to pour. Yn was unsure but still did it. As he poured he could feel Rhaegar’s eyes on him, and shamefully Yn admitted that he felt excited. Even after years of hurt he loved Rhaegar.
• As he was pouring Rhaegar hit him. The slap hurt like a bitch, Yn decided. It was unexpected and Yn fell over. Before he could do anything Rhaegar was on him. The kiss that followed was even more unexpected. When Yn didn’t do anything Rhaegar deepened the kiss. However both of them needed to breath and they came apart. Rhaegar looked deep in Yn eyes and caressed his face. Yn was so shocked that he couldn’t muster up enough energy do anything until he noticed Rhaegar leaning over again for a kiss. Before anything could happen Yn hit Rhaegar‘ side, got up and quickly went for the door. But he never reached it. Rhaegar almost sprung on him and they fell over. Usually Yn won over Rhaegar but this time Rhaegar was like a bull. They rolled around on the floor, hit each other, and when Rhaegar prayed Yn‘s jaw apart Yn wasn’t strong enough to stop him. Frightened Yn noticed that he had swallowed something and didn’t move. He could see himself and his fearful face in Rhaegar’s eyes.
• The kisses that followed their little fight were intense. Yn felt sluggish but hot at the same time and when Rhaegar asked him between kisses about the men he was meeting, he could barely respond. He denied Rhaegar accusations about being taken by the men and only responded that they were just friends. Rhaegar obviously didn’t believe him, and Yn realized at the back of his mind that he was jealous and angry. The kisses and touches left Yn feeling even more hotter than he already was and before he do anything both of them were naked and flushed together. Rhaegar was already on him, caressing him, and through the night they took each other several time before falling asleep.
• Waking up Yn felt awful. His stomach was upset but when he tried to lean over the side of the bed something pulled his hands back. The something was made of iron. Shocked he looked at the shackles around his wrists and then he noticed Rhaegar watching beside him. Before Yn could open his mouth Rhaegar leaned over and kissed him while laughing. This was the moment that Yn knew that he was truly fucked.

𝐒𝐔𝐌𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐘: The war to Robert’s Rebellion is finally over, Robert Baratheon has finally destroy the Targaryen Dynasty. He has killed Prince Rhaegar Targaryen at the Trident, while Princess Elia Martell and her three children Rhaenys, Aegon, and Viserra, were killed by Lord Tywin Lannister's orders during the Sack of King's Landing. But is that really true? No, one child still lives, Viserra Targaryen, the last true living child and youngest child of Prince Rhaegar Targaryen and Princess Elia Martell. In 283 AC, Ashara Dayne, the sister to the late Ser Arthur Dayne and one of Elia Martell’s ladies-and-waiting, but also one of her best friends during Robert's Rebellion and Ser Jon Connington one of Rhaegar Targaryen's best loyal knights and best friend decides to send a raven to the Prince Oberyn Martell in, Dorne stating for him to come to Starfall, alone where she and the exile knight have something important to tell Oberyn Martell, whether or not it might put all their lives in danger or in jeopardy.
𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐒: cursing, robert’s rebellion war mention, characters deaths mention, suicide thoughts, war, betrayal, violence, angst, secrets. (Please, remind me if there are any missing warnings, I have missed or forgotten)
𝐀/𝐍: Ahhhh, hello my loves! SUPRISE!!! I have decided to do the GOT fanfic, instead of doing it on Wattpad, I will be doing it on Tumblr. This story will be following the TV series and a bit of the books spoiler’s; but mostly the TV series GOT, so please remember that. There is not much warnings for this chapter as, it is the Prologue to this story. Also, for the story I decided to put Ashara Dayne in my story she will not die like in the books, she still lives in GOT universe because to be honest, I really do love her character, and well she is a badass woman. Also for Ser Jon Connington, I have decided to add him as well, in which both GOT characters will have a bigger part in this story.

Looking outside, through one the window’s of the castle of the beautiful sea of Star-Fall, were it is located in the western Red Mountains, stood a beautiful woman who is a tall and a fair maiden all together. Her long dark hair tumbled around her shoulders but what really got other’s attention were her very own eyes in particular her beautiful purple eyes who some would say she would be consider a Targaryen or resemble one at that. The ones that did know her very well, she went by the name of Ashara Dayne. But the ones who did not know her well like to gossip and talk at court, behind her back and would call her -
“𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐝 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐄𝐲𝐞𝐬.’’
Tumblr media
The sister of the late Ser Arthur Dayne, "The Sword Of The Morning." With her, she carried a beautiful babe, not even a year old yet. The babe who truly resembled a true 𝐓𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐲𝐞𝐧, just like her late father Prince Rhaegar Targaryen, as her elder siblings Rhaenys and Aegon Targaryen truly looked like their own mother with their very own Dornish features, on the other hand Viserra, truly did look like her late father, Prince Rhaegar Targaryen with her little scruff of white hair poking out of her head, while her little brownish eyes with a bit of blueish hue in them and her appearance, told a different tale her eyes truly resembled a 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥, just like her late mother Princess Elia Martell.
Ashara felt sorry, for the little babe, for Viserra will never get to meet her mother and father, but her siblings Rhaenys and Aegon, as well. Ashara knew this world was a men’s world and women were just simply living in it, to just be broodmares and give men the heirs they truly needed, but little Viserra will never be that type of Queen or get to meet or, see her family ever again, as they were taken from her, before she could even say goodbye to any of them.
Her grandmother Queen Rhaella was dead, her grandfather the Mad King Aerys was dead as well, as her father and mother Prince Rhaegar and Princess Elia were dead, her sister and brother the late Princess Rhaenys and Prince Aegon were dead as well.
The whereabouts of her Uncle Viserys and Aunt Daenerys were unknown as they went into hiding and where shipped across the Narrow Sea as soon as Stannis Baratheon and his men arrived on Dragonstone, but did not find them instead they found Queen Rhaella there as she was found dead on Dragonstone.
This little babes entire family was all gone and not just any family house the Targaryen dynasty was finally gone. Just because Prince Rhaegar Targaryen had kidnapped and raped the Lady Lyanna Stark of Winterfell and did nothing but get his whole family slaughtered and killed for his actions and consequences.
She looked down at the little babe of who she carried, while the babe grabbed onto her fingers with, her tiny hands and smiled up at her. Some would say the babe was Ashara Dayne’s, but she knew the cold hard truth, of where this babe truly came from, the babe was not hers, but her late best friend Princess Elia Martell; for she was the youngest daughter and last living child of Princess Elia Martell and Prince Rhaegar Targaryen.
Tumblr media
Ashara Dayne also had lost, so much within the years of Robert’s Rebellions wars, the war had changed everything for her and her family, hell it even change her, even if the war was finally over, still she had lost so many people she had loved and cared about; she had lost her still-born daughter, her lover, her best friend Princess Elia Martell, and her brother Ser Arthur Dayne. No matter, what she felt about ending her life right then and there, she felt that her life didn’t have any worth anymore. To her what was the point of living and breathing, she knew that she had lost, everyone she truly loved and cared about.
Ashara still had her younger sister Allyria Dayne alive but she was sent away to Blackhaven, for protection and away from the war as she knew Robert Baratheon would kill every Targaryen loyalist and blood Targaryen, he could get his bare hands on, but he could make an exception for the houses that would bend the knee to him as their rightful new King, but even Ashara Dayne knew she nor the Dayne's or Martell's were going to bend the knee to the newly crowned drunken cunt of a Usurper Robert Baratheon, who ended the Targaryen dynasty, just because they did not have any dragons as they were long gone or extinct from the world.
She later had gotten another raven from Blackhaven stating, that her sister, Allyria Dayne is set to be betrothed to, Lord Beric Dondarrion of Blackhaven. Where now it was just her, as the last true Dayne of Star-Fall. She would be the next "Lady Regent Ashara Dayne of Star-Fall." But, she even knew that, she could not rule Star-Fall anymore as she had already faked her death in order to protect the princess Viserra Targaryen and what was left of her family's bloodline. Her eldest brother would soon become the Lord of Star-Fall.
The people that knew her as the beautiful Lady Ashara Dayne, was now long dead as she had faked her death by suicide from a broken heart by jumping off one of the towers of Star-Fall. For now, she went as her new given name Wylla Sand, one of her former wet-nurses who died due to a fever she had her name changed in order to protect Viserra Targaryen from Robert Baratheon and Tywin Lannister, and those who wish to harm, the sweet little princess of King's Landing.
Just a few days ago right before she was about to end her life by committing suicide by jumping from the top of the Palestone Sword, one of the towers of Star-Fall, and fall into the sea and disappear forever. But things change for her; instinct just a few days ago a raven had arrived in Star-Fall, for Ashara Dayne from Lord Varys also known as, “The Spider’’ in King’s Landing stating,
𝙷𝚎𝚕𝚕𝚘 𝙻𝚊𝚍𝚢, 𝙰𝚜𝚑𝚊𝚛𝚊 𝙳𝚊𝚢𝚗𝚎 Wylla Sand 𝙾𝚏 𝚂𝚝𝚊𝚛-𝙵𝚊𝚕𝚕: 𝚈𝚘𝚞 𝚖𝚊𝚢 𝚗𝚘𝚝 𝚔𝚗𝚘𝚠 𝚖𝚎 𝚠𝚎𝚕𝚕, 𝚋𝚞𝚝 𝙸 𝚍𝚘 𝚔𝚗𝚘𝚠 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚟𝚎𝚛𝚢 𝚖𝚞𝚌𝚑 𝚠𝚎𝚕𝚕. You are not that hard to tract down my Lady, but my little birds of whispers inform me you have faked your death in your very own home at Star-Fall in order for you to protect your family from the now newly crowned King Robert Baratheon's wrath and rage. First, m𝚢 𝚌𝚘𝚗𝚍𝚘𝚕𝚎𝚗𝚌𝚎𝚜, 𝚝𝚘 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝚏𝚊𝚖𝚒𝚕𝚢 𝚏𝚘𝚛 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚛 lost of your 𝚜𝚝𝚒𝚕𝚕-𝚋𝚘𝚛𝚗 𝚍𝚊𝚞𝚐𝚑𝚝𝚎𝚛 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝚋𝚛𝚘𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚛 𝚂𝚎𝚛 𝙰𝚛𝚝𝚑𝚞𝚛 𝙳𝚊𝚢𝚗𝚎, "T𝚑𝚎 𝚂𝚠𝚘𝚛𝚍 O𝚏 T𝚑𝚎 𝙼𝚘𝚛𝚗𝚒𝚗𝚐.'' I have heard from my little birds in Dorne that, your former lover, Lord Eddard Stark of Winterfell, was seen in Star-Fall recently to return to you, your family's ancestral sword the Sword Of The Morning, "Dawn". I do wish, Lord Eddard Stark could see you alive on better circumstances, but I'm afraid with the newly crowned King Robert Baratheon on the Iron Throne now is a big no for you, I do not think it is a good time for you or your family to leave Star-Fall as of yet. I am hoping this raven fine's you well my Lady, because there are some pressing matters that we have to attend to and it has everything to do with, the princess Viserra Targaryen's very own name and birthright written all over in King's Landings and the entire realm of the Seven Kingdoms.

Lord Varys, "Master of Whisperers"
The raven that Lord Varys, had sent Lady Ashara, a chill down her spine as she did not want Elia Martell's last living child and only living daughter the little Viserra to grow up to be like her grandfather the late “Mad King’’ Aerys Targaryen. She had first met the little babe Viserra, when Ser Jon Connington had came to Star-Fall in order to give little Viserra Targaryen to her loyal servant Flora, who help deliver her still-born daughter along with the wet-nurse Wylla and help her grieve for her stillborn daughter.
Lady Ashara and Ser Jon Connington had an argument over his welcome to Star-Fall and that he made no argument of over staying his welcome and would not be exile again especially to the only surviving child and true heir of Prince Rhaegar Targaryen and Princess Elia Martell.
He then later told Lady Ashara Dayne that she may not like him and will hate him forever for what Rhaegar Targaryen did, to his wife and children. But he had sworn an oath to his best friends Rhaegar Targaryen and her brother Ser Arthur Dayne as a kingsguard and, a knight of the Seven Kingdoms and protector, that he would serve Viserra Targaryen as his true loyalties are only to the Targaryens and the heir to the Iron Throne.
When Ser Jon Connington had handed the babe to her. Her heart stopped for a moment, just by looking at her she could immediately see Elia Martell, in her very own daughter. What she saw was this pure, innocent, child who had to watch her entire family be slaughtered and killed by Robert Baratheon and his men of traitors. She remembers a time when she was in King's Landing, right before Viserra Targaryen was born, Princess Elia Martell and Queen Rhaella Targaryen were fearful for little Viserra because unlike Rhaneys and Aegon that smelled like Dornish to him.
The "Mad King" Aerys II Targaryen had actually taken a liking to his youngest granddaughter telling her that she was a true Targaryen and a true Queen even he would say that in his so called dragon dreams and his madness, he would dream of her that one day she too will sit the Iron Throne, but what was fearful of the words he said were -
"Viserra Targaryen my greatest weapon, my youngest granddaughter and my true heir, you shall be the most fearful and dangerous ruler of the Targaryen Dynasty, and the entire realm of Westero's has ever seen, one day they will truly see what you really are and when the time comes you will be ready to "burn them all" for what they have done to you and your madness just like what they did to me. You have the blood of the dragon, the blood of Old Valyria, you have my blood in you, it runs thick through you and only you can use it to your advantage and show those damn bastards traitors who you really are, for you are; The Dragon's Queen."
But, no one had to blame anyone for Robert's Rebellion war for happening but Rhaegar Targaryen “The Last Dragon’’ for kidnapping and raping Lyanna Stark “The She-Wolf’’. When Ashara found out about what was about to happen, she knew they were all going to war for what Rhaegar and Lyanna did. And, she knew her brother Ser Arthur Dayne, would take part in the war because of his loyalties to his best friend Rhaegar Targaryen.
No matter, how much she plead for her brother Ser Arthur Dayne, not to go he had promised to her that he would come back to her, Ashara prayed to the Seven and to any the gods, that would hear her prayer, to bring her brother back safely to her when the war was finally over. But even she knew it was all just a lie, just for her to lose the last bit, of faith within the gods, as the gods were cruel to everyone.
Zoning out, and startled by one of the servants coming through the doors, while Ser Jon Connington made his way into the chambers of Lady Ashara Dayne for a guard had opened the door for the servant and knight named Flora. Ashara Dayne looked up from where she stood, and not before putting the little babe Viserra in her cot, before looking at the servant and raising her eyebrows to Ser Jon Connington as well, before he too gave her a smirk. She soon then, spoke in a stern tone.
“Yes, Flora, what is it this time?" before continuing to speak and looking at Ser Jon Connington with annoyed expression, "And, to what do I own the pleasure of, of your entitled presence here, Ser Jon Connington?"
“Forgive me, my Lady, I am sorry to be unannounced, but Prince Oberyn Martell has arrived from Dorne, and wishes to speak to you alone." Flora spoke as she had her eyes glancing down at her feet, not before glancing at the handsome Knight who still did not talk but just kept on staring at Lady Ashara with a serious look. Without, Lady Ashara or the Knight known as Ser Jon Connington knowing Flora secretly sought a glance at the little babe Viserra, in which she was in her cot babbling away not knowing what was happening.
"Oh, yes, please do tell Prince Oberyn Martell, to come in." spoke, the Lady Ashara, as she looked directly at Flora the servant before walking to the table ignoring the entitled knight's presence and grabbing two cups of Dornish wine for her and Prince Oberyn Martell.
"Right away, my Lady." Flora replied, before bowing to both the lady and the knight going away quickly to the door once the guards had open the door but to inform Prince Oberyn Martell he may come in to speak to the Lady of Star-Fall as well. Finally, Ser Jon Connington spoke but in an aggravated tone-
"You had the fucking damn, Red Viper of a snake Prince Oberyn Marterll of Dorne come here?" "Seven hells, Ashara what were you thinking, what tis' next, you have that damn bastard of usurper Robert Baratheon and his men of fucking traitors, come here to slaughter and kill us all and the little princess and, the true heir to the Iron Throne?"
"How dare you speak to me like that, do not forget, yourself "Ser" Jon Connington, you know damn well why he is here, I can't not change that Prince Oberyn Martell is here and came all this way from Dorne besides he is Viserra's only kin who is left alive besides Prince Doran Martell, I will not be told what I cannot do in my own damn castle by a damn exiled knight!" snapped, Ashara as she looked at Ser Jon Connington with a glare.
Tumblr media
"Do you trust him?" spoke, Ser Jon Connington before continuing to speak to her but in a softer tone, "The Prince Oberyn Martell, can he truly be trusted, as you say you know him very well can he be trusted, especially with this dangerous secret about the little princess, I do not trust anyone but you Ashara, I don't give a damn what Lord Varys says, I'm telling you and only you?"
"I do Jon, I would trust Oberyn Martell with my life, trust me he is a complicated man and his ego may be somewhat annoying but he has a good heart I know that because, he truly loved his sister Elia and her children more than anything in this world, no matter what, I know he will help us protect Viserra from anyone who wishes to lay harm to her."
"I trust you Ashara, but do not expect me to play friendly, with the Red Viper of Dorne, if it comes down to saving the princess, I will not hesitate to kill anyone who wishes to harm her, even if it is her own blood or kin."
"I know, you will but please, Jon just let me handle this please, Prince Oberyn Martell will understand what is at stake here once he arrives in Star-Fall. You don't know him like I do, I know him, he would never wish to harm the princess, especially his own niece Viserra, Elia's only living child and his blood."
Tumblr media
"Well, that was a lovely conversation, now please try not to kill him or his damn guards, with your damn glare." spoke, Ashara in a statistical tone with the roll of her eyes.
"Ah, yes, yes, yes... And, you try not to kill anyone, with your looks and your damn controlling ways, Wylla."
"As well as you, Ser Griff."
"Well, Viserra, my darling it looks like, to us your Uncle Oberyn is here from, Dorne just to meet you." spoke Ashara, as she gave the little princess Viserra a silly smile, not before sipping her wine. Little Viserra, looked up at, Lady Ashara and gave her a smile back before babbling once more.
Just then the doors to the chambers open again, in which Ashara Dayne and Ser Jon Connington while having his hand the hilt of his sword standing in between Ashara and Viserra, both looked up from where she was sitting along with little Viserra in her cot by her side slowly rocking the cot.
Looking around her cot little Viserra stop, what she was doing as she heard the noise. It was non-other than Prince Oberyn Martell of Dorne, coming in a hurry to see if it was really Ashara Dayne if she truly was alive. The servant named Flora again, came into the chambers in a hurry telling Prince Oberyn, to please not rush into the chambers for the guards would think he was here to harm Lady Ashara and the little princess Viserra.
Tumblr media
"Ashara, h-how are you alive?" spoke, Oberyn Martell, as he looked at her in shock and surprise not before noticing Ser Jon Connington. Ashara look at her best friend's brother, not before looking out the window and gulping down the last bit of wine she had before setting the cup on the table.
"They told me, you were dead, that you had killed yourself and jumped off Star-Falls tower and into the sea, right after your brother was killed at the Tower of Joy." spoke, Oberyn, as he slowly came near her, and the little babe of who he did not notice yet. Slowly, Ser Jon Connington looked at Prince Oberyn as he gave him a hardened all the playfulness gone from his face as he stayed back but not to over step where he was at as well.
When Oberyn Martell looked at Ser Jon, he finally knew who he was looking at besides the Lady Ashara Dayne, of where he stood he was one of the late Prince Rhaegar Targaryen's loyal friends and knight's also known as the exile knight, Ser Jon Connington also known by his hidden name "Griff". Prince Oberyn Martell's eyes hardened at that as he was blinded by rage and hate by the so-called knight who took no part in the war of Roberts Rebellion and did not save his sister Elia and her children.
Ignoring, the Lady Ashara's protest not to fight in her very own bedchambers or castle where the guards were stationed outside the door. Due to the little princess being here she did not want for them to get violent or spill any bloodshed Prince Oberyn walked briskly to Ser Jon Connington as he took out his sword and pointed it at Ser Jon Connington neck while Ser Jon Connington grabbed his sword as well.
"You bastard traitor of a knight, what are you doing here, have you come here to kill us as well." spoke, Oberyn with anger and rage in his tone as he looked at Ser Jon Connington.
"No, I haven't yet." replied," Ser Jon Connington as he continued, as he stared at Oberyn Martell with a challenge me look.
"How many people had to die and suffer because your friend the beautiful noble Rhaegar Targaryen couldn't meet the expectations of his consequences when he kidnapped and raped Lyanna Stark while, my sister Elia Martell and her children had to suffer the consequences of his damn mistakes."
"ENOUGH, the both of you," spoke, Ashara as she continued, "You may not like him, here Oberyn but he is my guest, I can't change that but you are here for a reason."
Finally, Lady Ashara Dayne decided, to turn around and look at the Prince of Dorne, Oberyn Martell, with anguish and rage in her eyes as not before speaking in an emotionless tone ignoring Ser Jon Connnington's glare again.
Tumblr media
"I am alive, because I fake my death Oberyn, I had to." replied, Ashara as she look at Oberyn, before continuing to speak, "You got Lord Varys raven, didn't you?"
"I did, Ashara if I may speak? What is this really about?" spoke, Oberyn with furrowed his eyebrows in confusion as to why he is really here while also, ignoring Ser Jon Connington glare yet again.
Not looking at Prince Oberyn or Ser Jon, the Lady Ashara spoke, in a tone that should not represent any lady especially a higherborn at that. "Do you know what, they did to my brother Oberyn?" "E-Elia and her children, were innocent they did not have to die the way they did."
Ser Jon Connington looks away as he could not meet the eyes of Ashara or Oberyn talk about her brother Ser Arthur Dayne one of his best friends and Elia Martell and her other children, also know as Rhaegar Targaryen's children.
Oberyn looked away from her, as soon as Ashara spoke but while also glaring at Ser Jon, about the mention of his own sister Elia and her children, his nieces and nephew. Talking about his sister and her children were a sore and hurtful subject on the Martell's but, especially for Prince Oberyn Martell as he and Elia were so close during their childhood before, she was even betrothed and to be married off to the Silver Prince Rhaegar Targaryen.
His sweet sister and her children were innocent and, the Mad King Aerys took advantage of that, he did not have to keep them there as hostages or prisoners within the Red Keep, just because he was paranoid that the Martell's especially his uncle Prince Lewyn Martell who died during Roberts Rebellion as well he would turn against him and take away his favorite grandchild Viserra Targaryen his only one true heir when Rhaegar Targaryen had been killed at the Banks of the Trident by Robert Baratheon.
His eldest darling niece Rhaenys, was stabbed over hundred times while under the bed of her father's Rhaegar's bedchambers waiting for him to save her, while his brave nephew Aegon was ripped away from his own sister Elia as his head was smashed against a wall and was believed to be unrecognizable, and lastly sweet little Viserra, was rumored to have her throat slit open while her blood poured from her neck while laying in her cot left to die while she choked on her own blood, as Elia Martell watched defenseless and caged while being rapped and murdered, as her children were killed right in front of her.
"YOU DON'T THINK I KNOW THAT ASHARA? MY SISTER AND HER CHILDREN WERE MURDER AND LEFT TO BE KILLED AS ANIMALS WITHIN THAT DAMN KINGDOM." yelled, Oberyn to Ashara as he had thrown his cup of wine to the floor, as tears and rage within him came out of his very own eyes and heart.
Startled by the yelling and the loud bang of noise, little Viserra started whaling loud, in her cot as she could feel her uncles rage and hate being torn in two pieces at the same time. Quickly, Ashara walked to the cot and picked up Viserra slowly rocking her back and forth to keep her from crying too much. Oberyn took a glance at the babe in Ashara's arms slowly to walk towards her side to get a better view of the babe, he had thought Ashara had a still-born daughter but clearly the babe was very much alive, what other secrets were the great Lady Ashara were hiding from him.
Startled, with the princess cries, Ser Jon Connington moved forward, ready to advance at any given moment as he had his hand on the hilt of his sword, before he could do anything Ashara said, "Don't, it's okay Jon, let Oberyn come forward."
With, a nod to Lady Ashara Dayne, Ser Jon Connington, moved back but still kept his eyes on the Red Viper of Dorne. He knew he had, to let Oberyn Martell see his niece even if he is sworn to protect her from harm at all cost.
"Oberyn, I would like for you to meet someone that is very special to me that was sent from the Gods above."
"I thought you had, a still-born daughter Ashara?" question, Oberyn with a confused look. "That's just a baby."
Lady Ashara and Ser Jon, looked at Prince Oberyn Martell not before meeting each other's eyes and giving each other an understanding look. Ashara came forward with the little babe Viserra Targaryen as she carefully handed the babe to her Uncle Oberyn Martell as he looked at her with a curious look and emotion in his eyes while the Viserra made grabbing hands towards her Uncle and cooed at him.
"Oberyn, she is not just a baby or any baby really?" continued, Ashara as she looked at Ser Jon Connington, with a nod, "She is your niece, Viserra Targaryen. The daughter of Rhaegar Targaryen and your sister Elia Martell."
"H-How is she alive, she can't-"
"She is very much alive, Oberyn, you may hate me all you want but know this, I did my best to protect Elia Martell and her other children, but I could not get to them in time Lord Varys was the one to save her right before he handed the princess Viserra Targaryen to me, I was able sail away from King's Landing and bring her here to Lady Ashara Dayne." cut in but replied, Ser Jon, as he looked away from Oberyn Martell and Ashara Dayne not before looking at the Princess Viserra Targaryen who looked so much like his best friend Rhaegar Targaryen and a mix of Elia Martell as well.
"She is your niece, Oberyn, as much as you can't believe or you want denied it she is Viserra Targaryen and she will always be, but for now, in order to protect her we had to give her a new name which will be Ella Dayne. The true born daughter of the late Lady Ashara Dayne of Star-Fall and the late Brandon Stark of Winterfell."
"But when the time comes she will know her true identity." spoke, Ashara as she looked at both Oberyn Martell and Ser Jon Connington with an understanding of both men there. "Until then, we will protect her from any harm and with "fire and blood" she will take her throne back when the time comes she will ascend the Iron Throne as the true heir."
"For she is, Viserra Targaryen, second of her name, the true heir to the Iron Throne. The last living child of Prince Rhaegar Targaryen and Princess Elia Martell."

Rhaegar asks demigoddess to run away with him and she tells him that she would never run away with a man who abandons his children and reminds him how her father never once abandoned her while she was on the surface.
->
The doors of her chambers were broken up to reveal the Targaryen prince, in all his might. Finding his beloved demigoddess in the company of his wife and children.
As he approaches the princess of the seas, ignoring the others, he cups her face to be sure she isn't hurt while in the hands of his demented father.
"We need to leave now" - He says as he grabs her hand and tries to drag her out, but was immediately stopped by the demigoddess once she questions - "But what of them, aren't you gonna take them too?"
"They will be escorted to Dragonstone later, don't worry, they will be safe" - he answers, making the woman confused - "You will leave them behind but take me? You would leave your family?..."
She immediately releases her hand from his grasp and instead of walking away, she drags him to a nearby window to point at the chaos outside.
"Do you see that? That is the fury of a father who lost his daughter" - she points out to Rhaegar - "A father who loves and cherishs the only family he has, he would sacrifice everything for me"
"And i refuse to be with a man who would sacrifice his own children for a deity that he knows nothing other than tales from his antecedents."
In that moment, Rhaegar knew he truly lost this war, as his beloved walks away to stay with the family he abandoned for her.

SFW Alphabet Elia Martell
Elia Martell x GN Reader
Affection: Elia is slightly more reserved in public. As regent for her son Aegon Elia must be the epitome of decorum. However, she does not abstain from physical comfort entirely. She likes to sometimes hold your hand or put a hand on the small of your back. Sometimes she feels a bit naughty and sneaks a kiss😉
In private it's a different story. Expect lots of affection including cuddling and kisses. She enjoys touching, not necessarily in a sexual way (though it is appreciated), but it helps ground her. It reminds her your are real.
Best friend: Well your relationship has by now reached beyond the platonic stage. Elia enjoys a partner who can is funny and can keep up with her wit. Empathy is also greatly appreciated, she definitely needs it. Don't think this is one-sided, Elia will absolutely return the favor.
Cuddles: Elia enjoys having her head on your chest. If you have breasts then she might choose to lay on your stomach instead. Expect very long cuddle sessions after council meetings.
Domestic: Elia definitely is all for that family life. She already has two kids by Ratgar Rhaegar, and you as her loving partner! If you have kids she is more than happy to accept them. Because of her family life at home expect her to be very involved. Even though she has her duties, Elia likes to take breakfast with the family and a walk in the park. At night it's time for just the two of you. If sex is not on the menu then Elia might dedicate her time to reading or sewing.
Ending (how would they end it): Absolutely not. Only fluff aloud here.
Fiancé (how quick are they to commit to a relationship): After what happened with Rhaegar, Elia had closed off her heart. It was only after years of knowing you that was she ready. Before Rhaegar Elia was quick to fall in love. Afterward, it is much harder. Once she does fall in love with you expect utter devotion.
Gentle (how gentle are they): Very gentle both physically and emotionally. She wouldn't want to hurt you.
Hugs: Yes yes yes
I love you: I see Elia saying it after the first time you two have sex. For Elia this is the ultimate show of the bond you two share. At this point, you two have known each other for several years. So it takes some time.
Jealousy: Elia has her scars from Rhaegar. Unfortunately, this subconsciously makes her feel insecure at times. So it's less like possessive jealousy and more Elia afraid to lose you. Happily, Elia's wounds will lessen and soon she knows no one can replace her in your heart. As the years go by Elia is not bothered by those who seek your attention. They can not compete with her anyway. She is yours and you are hers.
Kisses: There are two kinds of kisses Elia likes to give. Deep, slow sensual kisses. She kisses to take her time with these. If she feels a little more playful Elia likes to give ticklish kisses across your body, your giggles are so cute!
Little ones (how are they around children): Elia loves kids. Elia would probably adopt every child in Flee Bottom if she could get away with it. One of Elia's joys is raising kids right along with you.
Mornings: Elia has her responsibilities. That being said she will snuggle with you for a bit and eat. On mornings were she has nothing to do Elia likes to take a nice long bath with you.
Nights: She likes to lie on the big fur blanket by the fireplace. That carpet has witnessed many activities (like you reading Elia books, perves).
Open (how open is Elia): This depends if you were with her while she was a princess. If yes then she is much more open because you stayed with her during the worst. If not then it will take a while, maybe a few years.
Patients: This lady has dealt with Oberyn, Aery,s and Rhaegar. Its very rare.
Quizzes (how much do they remember about you?): Elia has a very good memory and is super attentive.
Remember(favorite memory): The day you pledged yourself to her. Making a cape with the sigil of your house you draped it over Elia's shoulders in the sept. It was a private moment, only witnessed by the gods themselves.
Security (how protective are they): Do. Not. Mess. With. Elia. She is a Martell and Princess Regent of the seven Kingdoms. So good luck to anyone who might harm you. While no Oberyn, Elia is just as protective. She will go to any lengths to protect you.
Try (how hard do they try): The two of you like to do things on a smaller, more intimate scale. She knows what you like and has a keen memory. So long as it makes you happy she will do it. So yes, Elia puts a lot of effort into making you happy.
Ugly: Insecurity. Elia's marriage was extremely traumatizing. This meant that for the first few years of her widowhood Elia wasn't sure if your affections were real. It almost caused the two of you to separate. Luckily, Elia had a long conversation with Oberyn followed by a break. The two of you mended your relationship and happily live together. Even though Elia still struggles, she works hard to get better.
Vanity: Of course, she has to look lovely, Elia is the Kings mother after all. I would say she has a healthy reflection with her looks these days. After Robert's Rebellion Elia did find herself unattractive for a while but realized Rhaegar is stupid.
Whole (how would they feel without you): A bit of you would always have her. If you ever left I think Elia would lose a piece of herself.
Xtra (random info): Likes to randomly paint nails. She and Oberyn use to prank Doran Martell. The Oberyn Martell had daughters and Elia painted their nails. These days Elia will find herself finding the urge to paint something. And yes, you have woken to find your toenails painted.
Yuck (what grosses them out): pickles
Zzz(sleep habits): Elia goes to bed late and wakes up early. Perks of being Princess Regent.

Peaches- Oberyn Martell x f!reader
Tumblr media
Main Masterlist | Prompt Fill Masterlist
Prompt #955- “It may look pretty, but the crown made her head ache and she couldn’t wait to get back to her rooms to remove it.”
Pairing: Oberyn Martell x f!reader
Summary: an AU where Oberyn must take a wife, so he travels all of Westeros in search of one. He’s finally found one that he thinks he might like. You.
Rating: M for Mature (my entire blog is 18+)
Word Count: 1199
Warnings: implied smut, oberyn is a slutty menace, drugs/poison referenced. reader is able-bodied but otherwise undescribed.
Author’s Notes: I absolutely did not stay within my self imposed time limit. i just could not make this man shut the fuck up. This one might be one that i am interested in expanding into a full fic- maybe a mini series?
Oberyn sits in the great hall of the castle of someone, in the region of somewhere , eating his fill of fruit and drinking wine as fast as it can be poured. He truly cannot keep up anymore. He has been on this tour for close to a year now. In search of a wife he does not want, to ascend to a throne he has no desire to sit in. His eyes scan the room as he waits for the only woman to catch his interest in many months. Sure, he’d taken plenty of the others in his bed, but this one has a fire in her eyes that burns right through to his bones. A fire that lends him to believe that she would be accepting of Oberyn’s paramour, Ellaria. More than any of the other ladies who threw themselves at the chance to marry the Prince of Dorne.
Doran’s failing health, and the tragic death of his only son in infancy, necessitate such dealings. Elia would have been next in line for the throne, had she and her children not been brutally slaughtered by the Lannister’s thug. Ser Gregor Clegane, also known as The Mountain. The way that he brutalized poor Aegon and Rhaenys in front of the mother, before violating Elia and taking her life as well, is an injustice that Oberyn won’t soon forget. He will enact the justice that has eluded the cowardly Lions of Casterly Rock for far too long. The lion may still have its claws, but The Red Viper has his fangs.
More than once, Oberyn’s gaze flickers towards the high table, where the object of his desire sits. Where you sit. You laugh merrily with the other guests, nearly keeping up with Oberyn’s own wine consumption. Your eyes lock with his, just as he takes a bite of a peach. His fingers are wrapped gently around the fruit, so as not to bruise it. But, without breaking eye contact, he sinks his teeth in like a man who hasn’t eaten in days. Nectar runs out of both corners of his mouth and down the exposed skin of his neck and throat. His tongue darts out of his mouth like the serpent for which he was named. He runs it slowly over both of his plush lips, lapping up the sticky sweetness that has escaped. He doesn’t bother to check if anyone may be looking before tossing you a wink and going in for another bite.
Suddenly, it’s as if all of the air has been sucked out of the room. Heat radiates from your core and rushes to your face. You feel your undergarments sticking to your skin, sticky with your arousal. You stand from your seat and waver slightly as your knees begin to wobble. Your handmaiden, even attentive, rushes to your side and steadies you.
“My lady! Are you well?”
“I’m fine, Emilya. I think I need to be excused for a moment.”
“Should I accompany you, my lady?”
“No, no. I will be alright.” you assure her. “Please excuse me for a moment. The wine seems to have gone straight to my head.” You announce to the table. Your presence is barely acknowledged aside from your sister. The two of you have a wordless exchange, with only your eyes and slight nods of your heads. A skill perfected as children under the watchful gazes of your Septa. She hated chatter and was quick with the switch when annoyed.
Each step you climb your breath is harder to catch. The bloody corset is strangling you. You suck in air in short pants and are becoming dizzier the closer you get to your chamber doors. You should have allowed Emilya to accompany you. How are you supposed to get this thing off by yourself?
Just as you reach your hand out for the heavy gold handle, a voice calls out softly from behind you. “My lady, please, allow me to help you.” You attempt to suck in a gasp at the voice that drips with honey in your ear.
“Prince Oberyn, I am afraid that would not be appropriate.” you protest. Even though you can hardly breathe, you are struck by the freckles flecked on the smooth, golden skin of his chest. “If you would be so kind, would you fetch my handmaiden, Emilya?” Before he has the chance to answer, your vision goes black and you feel the stones under your feet crumble away.
When you come to, you are laid upon the chaise in your front room. You gasp when you spy the Prince of Dorne standing over you with a wicked blade in his hands. You recoil and realization flashes through his eyes. He stashes the blade somewhere on his person, in a flash of movement too quick for you to catch.
“Forgive me, my lady. I vow to you that I intend you no harm." He holds his hands in front of him, palms up, so that you may see that he is unarmed. “I had to relieve you of that dreadful corset, it was stealing the life from you in front of my very eyes.” you notice that your dress and corset have been sliced, from the dip of your breast to your waist, exposing your naked chest to him.
“Do not worry. There was no poison. On that one.”
Oddly, you don’t feel the need to cover yourself. He looks at you with the same hunger that he had in his eyes when he feasted on that peach. You wonder if he would gorge himself on you in the same manner. As if he could read your thoughts, more likely your face gave you away, he holds his hand out to you. “Would you like me to help you to bed?” he asks, nodding his head in the direction of your bedchambers. The heavy wooden door would muffle any noises that should try to escape.
“I would be delighted, my Prince.” you take his hand and lead him across the room, peeling off the tattered remains of your outerclothes. “We must be quick,” you warn, “lest anyone come looking for us.”
“Are you worried about your servants spying on us, my lady? Do you not inspire loyalty in your people?”
“It’s not the servants I’m concerned with. It’s my husband.” Your husband, the lord of this castle, had hosted this feast in hopes of making a marriage match for your sister. You push open the door of your bedchamber and Oberyn wraps his arms around you. He speaks softly directly into your ear.
“Do not worry yourself with such things, my sweet. He and I shared a drink just before I left the great hall. I can assure you, your lord is sleeping quite peacefully in his own chambers by now.” a horrified look crosses your face and Oberyn laughs heartily. “I can promise you that he will wake up tomorrow without so much as a headache.” he laughs once more. “Unless, you wish it otherwise, my lady.”
In the morning, Oberyn is gone. All that you have to remind you of him is the ache in your cunt and the whisper of his kiss.

Robert Baratheon x Reader
Summary: In which history repeats itself once again. Or does it?
Tumblr media
Robert had known young Rhaenyra all his life and they were sort of friends and some would even say they were somewhat close. When he sat on the Iron Throne she was the only one brought out, Jon Arryn saw it fit for the eldest of the Targaryen's to be the one to confront Robert. There she stood, in the middle of the room. All the lords eyes were on her. She said nothing, what could she say? "Your brother is dead" was the first thing Robert said to her. "I killed him. I wish I could kill him again" Rhaenyra's eyes filled with tears but none fell out. She didn't want to cry. She wouldn't allow them that satisfaction.
"What will happen to us?" she asked. "To Viserys, to Jaehaerys" everyone turned to her as he said the other name. "Who is Jaehaerys?" Jon asked. "He is my son. My son with Brandon Stark" Brandon lived but he was now married to Catelyn. "He is married to Catelyn Tully now" Robert said and she nodded. "I know" she replied. "The boy is a bastard" Tywin said and she glared at the man. "Kill her now. Avoid another rebellion" Tywin Lannister said and everyone turned to look at him. "I know you would like that, my lord. Did you enjoy having Elia and her children murdered as well?" she asked. "Lannisters. They have always been traitors. That has not changed in the past two hundred years it seems" he took a step but Ned Stark stood near her.
"Princess Rhaenyra is not at fault for her brother's sins. She is innocent" he spoke for her. "She's a whore! She and that bastard son of hers will bring nothing but trouble to the realm just as her brother has!" Tywin said. Ser Arthur, pulled out his sword as did Ned. "Hold your tongue, Lannister" was all Ser Arthur said. "Mind your tongue, Lannister" Robert stood in front of her. Rhaenyra was known as the Realm's Angel. or the Realm's Desire. Some even called her the Realm's Delight, referring at the nickname the realm gave the black queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, her ancestor.
"I propose a marriage between King Robert Baratheon and princess Rhaenyra Targaryen" Jon said making both Robert and Rhaenyra to look at him. "She's a child" Arthur said. "A child who bore a healthy son" Tywin scoffed. "She's been sullied. She cannot marry a king" he stated. "Robert has bed at least half of Westeros. It will not matter. Let's remember that House Velaryon, House Tyrell, and House Martell still support house Targaryen. This will ensure the peace in the realm. Specially after the chaos that this rebellion imposed on the realm" Robert looked at Rhaenyra. She was a child. She was seven years younger than him. She nodded. She did not object. She hoped that as the queen she could keep her son and brother safe.
It wasn't long before she was married off. The princess did not complain, she did not fight, she obeyed. They got married on the Great Sept. Brandon arrived with his family. With his wife and their son. Their legitimate son. It was said that Brandon loved her, he married Catelyn Tully for duty. He married her so her father could be on their side when the war was just beginning. He loved Rhaenyra as some said she loved him. But, the world will never know if she loved him as much as he did her. That was another secret she would take to her grave.
She sat with her husband as he drank himself numb. Robert didn't love her, she was sure he never would but he cared for her. When she arrived to her new chambers she found a box, inside laid three eggs. One was a black with red. The other was red with gold, and the other one was a blue and white color. Robert arrived a while later. The two did her their duty as quick as possible, Robert tried to be gentle but Rhaenyra was a woman of passion and asked for more and he complied. Perhaps it would not be so bad.
Princess Rhaenyra gave birth nine moons later to a son. A son who she named Daemon Baratheon Targaryen. Daemon was all his mother but the eyes. He held Rhaegar Targaryen's eyes. A year after him came Orys Baratheon, now that one was a Baratheon through and through. There was no ounce of Rhaenyra on him. Prince Aemon came two years later along with Aemond who were the spitting image of his mother. Robert used to laugh when he spoke to Rhaenyra about their sons as the boys all resemble her but not him aside from Orys.
Robert loved Jaehaerys as his own son, he had taken him and Viserys as his wards. He began to teach them how to fight. When the princess decided to visit Dragonstone a tragedy struck her. She had miscarried. The Maester had told her she had been poisoned. To bury her child, she had pyre made for the cremation and her dragon eggs were set inside alongside the babe. Her child had died but she left her mother with the greatest gift she could ask for. Dragons. Three of them. The eldest she called Balerion as the dragon was the spitting image of the black dread. The other she named Caraxes as the dragon was the same color and it seemed he too would look like the first blood wyrm. The third she named Syrax as he had been just like queen Rhaenyra's dragon. When she returned she returned with three dragons on her shoulder. House Targaryen would prevail.

Prince Rhaegar as a character often gets some deserved criticism - and a lot of underserved hate. And one of the things that I think he unfairly gets blamed for is Elia Martell's tragedy. Elia's death is one of the primary objections people have towards Rhaegar and Lyanna being depicted as a romance, with readers believing that if they were just tragic lovers, then that diminishes Elia's own tragedy.
I...disagree. It is understandable (and honestly right) that readers would rally behind Elia. Not only was she horribly brutalized and murdered, but her children suffered absolutely terrible fates as well.
However, in trying to center Rhaegar and Lyanna's doomed dalliance in this, a lot of readers are missing the answer that has been already provided to us within the narrative. Not only that, but this line of thinking also ignores the key context in which Elia's senseless murder is portrayed.
As far as the text goes, Elia’s death is laid squarely at the feet of Tywin Lannister and his men, Ser Gregor Clegane and Ser Amory Lorch. It's House Lannister's burden to bear.
Doran for one, Elia's brother, directly blames Tywin Lannister:
“You mistake patience for forbearance. I have worked at the downfall of Tywin Lannister since the day they told me of Elia and her children.”
The Princess in the Tower, AFFC
Even Oberyn agrees:
“Dwarf,” said the Red Viper, in a tone grown markedly less cordial, “spare me your Lannister lies. Is it sheep you take us for, or fools? My brother is not a bloodthirsty man, but neither has he been asleep for sixteen years. Jon Arryn came to Sunspear the year after Robert took the throne, and you can be sure that he was questioned closely. Him, and a hundred more. I did not come for some mummer’s show of an inquiry. I came for justice for Elia and her children, and I will have it. Starting with this lummox Gregor Clegane … but not, I think, ending there. Before he dies, the Enormity That Rides will tell me whence came his orders, please assure your lord father of that.” He smiled. “An old septon once claimed I was living proof of the goodness of the gods. Do you know why that is, Imp?”
Tyrion IV, ASOS
“Is that the game we are playing?” Tyrion rubbed at his scarred nose. He had nothing to lose by telling Oberyn the truth. “There was a bear at Harrenhal, and it did kill Ser Amory Lorch.” “How sad for him,” said the Red Viper. “And for you. Do all noseless men lie so badly, I wonder?” “I am not lying. Ser Amory dragged Princess Rhaenys out from under her father’s bed and stabbed her to death. He had some men-at-arms with him, but I do not know their names.” He leaned forward. “It was Ser Gregor Clegane who smashed Prince Aegon’s head against a wall and raped your sister Elia with his blood and brains still on his hands.” “What is this, now? Truth, from a Lannister?” Oberyn smiled coldly. “Your father gave the commands, yes?” “No.” He spoke the lie without hesitation, and never stopped to ask himself why he should. The Dornishman raised one thin black eyebrow. “Such a dutiful son. And such a very feeble lie. It was Lord Tywin who presented my sister’s children to King Robert all wrapped up in crimson Lannister cloaks.”
Tyrion IX, ASOS
“Elia Martell, Princess of Dorne,” the Red Viper hissed. “You raped her. You murdered her. You killed her children…“I came to hear you confess.”
Tyrion X, ASOS
Varys and Tyrion both understand that House Martell (but more specifically Doran) hates the Lannisters.
“The Dornishmen thus far have held aloof from these wars. Doran Martell has called his banners, but no more. His hatred for House Lannister is well known, and it is commonly thought he will join Lord Renly. You wish to dissuade him.” “All this is obvious,” said Tyrion. “The only puzzle is what you might have offered for his allegiance. The prince is a sentimental man, and he still mourns his sister Elia and her sweet babe.” “My father once told me that a lord never lets sentiment get in the way of ambition … and it happens we have an empty seat on the small council, now that Lord Janos has taken the black.” “A council seat is not to be despised,” Varys admitted, “yet will it be enough to make a proud man forget his sister’s murder?” “Why forget?” Tyrion smiled. “I’ve promised to deliver his sister’s killers, alive or dead, as he prefers. After the war is done, to be sure.” Varys gave him a shrewd look. “My little birds tell me that Princess Elia cried a … certain name … when they came for her.” “Is a secret still a secret if everyone knows it?” In Casterly Rock, it was common knowledge that Gregor Clegane had killed Elia and her babe. They said he had raped the princess with her son’s blood and brains still on his hands. “This secret is your lord father’s sworn man.” “My father would be the first to tell you that fifty thousand Dornishmen are worth one rabid dog.” Varys stroked a powdered cheek. “And if Prince Doran demands the blood of the lord who gave the command as well as the knight who did the deed …” “Robert Baratheon led the rebellion. All commands came from him, in the end.” “Robert was not at King’s Landing.” “Neither was Doran Martell.”
Tyrion IV, ACOK
Really, all the nobles know where to look at when assigning blame for Elia's murder. Tywin.
“Prince Doran comes at my son’s invitation,” Lord Tywin said calmly, “not only to join in our celebration, but to claim his seat on this council, and the justice Robert denied him for the murder of his sister Elia and her children.” Tyrion watched the faces of the Lords Tyrell, Redwyne, and Rowan, wondering if any of the three would be bold enough to say, “But Lord Tywin, wasn’t it you who presented the bodies to Robert, all wrapped up in Lannister cloaks?” None of them did, but it was there on their faces all the same. Redwyne does not give a fig, he thought, but Rowan looks fit to gag.
Tywin, for the most part, quite shamelessly tries to disassociate himself from his own moral failings; this is nothing new, because he follows this same MO with squarely blaming the Freys for the Red Wedding even though he played an integral part in planning for it.
“Then why did the Mountain kill her?” “Because I did not tell him to spare her. I doubt I mentioned her at all. I had more pressing concerns. Ned Stark’s van was rushing south from the Trident, and I feared it might come to swords between us. And it was in Aerys to murder Jaime, with no more cause than spite. That was the thing I feared most. That, and what Jaime himself might do.” He closed a fist. “Nor did I yet grasp what I had in Gregor Clegane, only that he was huge and terrible in battle. The rape … even you will not accuse me of giving that command, I would hope. Ser Amory was almost as bestial with Rhaenys. I asked him afterward why it had required half a hundred thrusts to kill a girl of … two? Three? He said she’d kicked him and would not stop screaming. If Lorch had half the wits the gods gave a turnip, he would have calmed her with a few sweet words and used a soft silk pillow.” His mouth twisted in distaste. “The blood was in him.”
Tyrion VI, ASOS
“And when Oberyn demands the justice he’s come for?” “I will tell him that Ser Amory Lorch killed Elia and her children,” Lord Tywin said calmly. “So will you, if he asks.” “Ser Amory Lorch is dead,” Tyrion said flatly. “Precisely. Vargo Hoat had Ser Amory torn apart by a bear after the fall of Harrenhal. That ought to be sufficiently grisly to appease even Oberyn Martell.” “You may call that justice …” “It is justice. It was Ser Amory who brought me the girl’s body, if you must know. He found her hiding under her father’s bed, as if she believed Rhaegar could still protect her. Princess Elia and the babe were in the nursery a floor below.”
Tyrion VI, ASOS
Tywin tries to alleviate himself of any responsibility by blaming his men, but the narrative actively calls bullshit on this (through Tywin's own son no less).
So the narrative shows through multiple POVs that Elia's murder is contextualized exclusively as a failing on Tywin Lannister and his men; not only was it a moral failing, but Tyrion also questions if it was politically necessary in the first place. It's also important to note that ASOS is when we really dive into the matter of Elia and her children (mostly through Oberyn), but we also have to remember that this is the same book as the Red Wedding. The Red Wedding, another one of Tywin's senseless massacres that he tries to postulate as politically necessary.
So, we have agreed that the blame and context for Elia's (and her children's) murder is presented through the lens of Tywin as an immoral politician who often makes politically unnecessary moves. But then we ask ourselves, can the responsibility of this tragedy be extended? Well, yes it can. And it has been in the text.
Ser Barristan extends this tragedy beyond Tywin and his men
...to King Robert.
“Prince Rhaegar had two children,” Ser Barristan told him. “Rhaenys was a little girl, Aegon a babe in arms. When Tywin Lannister took King’s Landing, his men killed both of them. He served the bloody bodies up in crimson cloaks, a gift for the new king.” And what did Robert say when he saw them? Did he smile? Barristan Selmy had been badly wounded on the Trident, so he had been spared the sight of Lord Tywin’s gift, but oft he wondered. If I had seen him smile over the red ruins of Rhaegar’s children, no army on this earth could have stopped me from killing him. “I will not suffer the murder of children. Accept that, or I’ll have no part of this.”
The Kingbreaker, ADWD
Ned Stark does as well.
Ned did not feign surprise; Robert’s hatred of the Targaryens was a madness in him. He remembered the angry words they had exchanged when Tywin Lannister had presented Robert with the corpses of Rhaegar’s wife and children as a token of fealty. Ned had named that murder; Robert called it war. When he had protested that the young prince and princess were no more than babes, his new-made king had replied, “I see no babes. Only dragonspawn.” Not even Jon Arryn had been able to calm that storm. Eddard Stark had ridden out that very day in a cold rage, to fight the last battles of the war alone in the south. It had taken another death to reconcile them; Lyanna’s death, and the grief they had shared over her passing.
Eddard II, AGOT
And so does Tywin, who uses Robert's tacit approval as justification for this senseless act.
Lord Tywin stared at him as if he had lost his wits. “You deserve that motley, then. We had come late to Robert’s cause. It was necessary to demonstrate our loyalty. When I laid those bodies before the throne, no man could doubt that we had forsaken House Targaryen forever. And Robert’s relief was palpable. As stupid as he was, even he knew that Rhaegar’s children had to die if his throne was ever to be secure. Yet he saw himself as a hero, and heroes do not kill children.” His father shrugged. “I grant you, it was done too brutally. Elia need not have been harmed at all, that was sheer folly. By herself she was nothing.”
Tyrion VI, ASOS
So if we can't extend the blame to Rhaegar, because the narrative doesn't do so either, what can we hold him responsible for? Let's take a step back and look at Rhaegar's culpability in this whole thing.
Was Rhaegar (and Lyanna) responsible for starting the war that would eventually lead to Elia's murder?
No. GRRM doesn't think so. The war actually started when King Aerys murdered the Lord of Winterfell and his heir, a bunch of other northern nobles, and then called for the heads of Robert Baratheon (Lord of Storm's End) and Ned Stark (the new Lord of Winterfell). Aerys broke the feudal contract, and so Jon Arryn declared war.
I don't think I would have stayed loyal to the Mad King. Do I think they were justified? Yes, and no. [...] There was no doubt that the Mad King was mad. He was paranoid and he was abusing his power. And Westeros has no Magna Carta or anything like that. There was no way to handle this within the rule of law. But was what they do justified? Especially when you consider that it was triggered by a personal grievance. The execution of Ned's father and brother was really a thing that radicalized Ned and put him in opposition to it. Robert was just rolling for a fight and didn't like the fact that he'd lost his girlfriend. So you know, the personal informs the political.
source
Rhaegar and Lyanna's disappearance was merely the spark - it led to a misunderstanding that caused Brandon Stark to ride to Kingslanding. What really caused the war was Aerys' Targaryens subsequent actions as the king. So if we want to blame someone for causing the chain of events that led to Elia's death as well as her children's, the author himself says to blame Aerys; even though I don't think this is right either because we once again stray from the necessary (and sole) context of Elia's murder - Tywin's bloody hands.
Fine. Rhaegar was not responsible for the war. But surely he is responsible for leaving Elia in King's Landing, right in the clutches of Mad King Aerys. Well, this again, is not true. As far as Rhaegar knew, Elia was in Dragonstone with Aegon and Rhaenys where he left them.
As cold winds hammered the city, King Aerys II turned to his pyromancers, charging them to drive the winter off with their magics. Huge green fires burned along the walls of the Red Keep for a moon’s turn. Prince Rhaegar was not in the city to observe them, however. Nor could he be found in Dragonstone with Princess Elia and their young son, Aegon.
“The Year of the False Spring”, The World of Ice and Fire
At some point, Elia was called to King's Landing. And it was Aerys who kept her hostage there as insurance against possible Dornish betrayal (remember, he was paranoid).
Side Note: Aerys kept another important political hostage in King's Landing along with Elia - Jaime Lannister; this is to deter anyone from trying to blame Jaime for doing nothing. He was a teenager and a hostage himself!
“My Sworn Brothers were all away, you see, but Aerys liked to keep me close. I was my father’s son, so he did not trust me. He wanted me where Varys could watch me, day and night. So I heard it all.” He remembered how Rossart’s eyes would shine when he unrolled his maps to show where the substance must be placed. Garigus and Belis were the same. “Rhaegar met Robert on the Trident, and you know what happened there. When the word reached court, Aerys packed the queen off to Dragonstone with Prince Viserys. Princess Elia would have gone as well, but he forbade it. Somehow he had gotten it in his head that Prince Lewyn must have betrayed Rhaegar on the Trident, but he thought he could keep Dorne loyal so long as he kept Elia and Aegon by his side. The traitors want my city, I heard him tell Rossart, but I’ll give them naught but ashes. Let Robert be king over charred bones and cooked meat. The Targaryens never bury their dead, they burn them. Aerys meant to have the greatest funeral pyre of them all. Though if truth be told, I do not believe he truly expected to die. Like Aerion Brightfire before him, Aerys thought the fire would transform him … that he would rise again, reborn as a dragon, and turn all his enemies to ash.
Jaime V, ASOS
Ok, fine. So Rhaegar did not abandon her with Aerys then run off to Lyanna. But he should have done something when he came back, right? Why didn't he leave more Kings Guard with Elia and the children?
Well....this is a war. The knights of the KG are important assets on the battle field. Kings Landing, at the time, was not the most dangerous location. The KG were better off at the Trident, as a victory there would protect those who were left behind in KL.
And it's not that Rhaegar didn't do anything. Beyond going off to lead the battle himself, he tried to make moves that would help those who were back in KL (Elia and the children included).
He floated in heat, in memory. “After dancing griffins lost the Battle of the Bells, Aerys exiled him.” Why am I telling this absurd ugly child? “He had finally realized that Robert was no mere outlaw lord to be crushed at whim, but the greatest threat House Targaryen had faced since Daemon Blackfyre. The king reminded Lewyn Martell gracelessly that he held Elia and sent him to take command of the ten thousand Dornishmen coming up the kingsroad. Jon Darry and Barristan Selmy rode to Stoney Sept to rally what they could of griffins’ men, and Prince Rhaegar returned from the south and persuaded his father to swallow his pride and summon my father. But no raven returned from Casterly Rock, and that made the king even more afraid. He saw traitors everywhere, and Varys was always there to point out any he might have missed. So His Grace commanded his alchemists to place caches of wildfire all over King’s Landing. Beneath Baelor’s Sept and the hovels of Flea Bottom, under stables and storehouses, at all seven gates, even in the cellars of the Red Keep itself.
Jaime V ASOS
And Jaime's POV once again shows us that Rhaegar banked on victory at the Trident, and was fully expecting to come back to KL and amend the fraught political situation.
The day had been windy when he said farewell to Rhaegar, in the yard of the Red Keep. The prince had donned his night-black armor, with the three-headed dragon picked out in rubies on his breastplate. “Your Grace,” Jaime had pleaded, “let Darry stay to guard the king this once, or Ser Barristan. Their cloaks are as white as mine.” Prince Rhaegar shook his head. “My royal sire fears your father more than he does our cousin Robert. He wants you close, so Lord Tywin cannot harm him. I dare not take that crutch away from him at such an hour.” Jaime’s anger had risen up in his throat. “I am not a crutch. I am a knight of the Kingsguard.” “Then guard the king,” Ser Jon Darry snapped at him. “When you donned that cloak, you promised to obey.” Rhaegar had put his hand on Jaime’s shoulder. “When this battle’s done I mean to call a council. Changes will be made. I meant to do it long ago, but … well, it does no good to speak of roads not taken. We shall talk when I return.”
Jaime I, AFFC
So Rhaegar wasn't leaving with no care about what happened back in King's Landing. We don't know what he wanted to do with Aerys, Elia, Lyanna, and the aftermath of the war because he died at the Trident. But we do know that he, at the very least, was planning to do something.
So we can't blame Rhaegar (and Lyanna) for starting the war and we can't blame him either for abandoning Elia in King's Landing with no care about what happens next. So, again, what can we blame him for?
“It's not entirely correct that the Martells stayed out of the war. Rhaegar had Dornish troops with him on the Trident, under the command of Prince Lewyn of the Kingsguard. However, the Dornishmen did not support him as strongly as they might have, in part because of anger at his treatment of Elia, in part because of Prince Doran's innate caution.”
SSM, 09/11/1999
GRRM states that Dorne was angry about Rhaegar's treatment of Elia. What is this treatment, though?
Ned remembered the moment when all the smiles died, when Prince Rhaegar Targaryen urged his horse past his own wife, the Dornish princess Elia Martell, to lay the queen of beauty’s laurel in Lyanna’s lap.
Eddard XV, AGOT
Specifically, Rhaegar riding past Elia to crown Lyanna the Queen of Love and Beauty. Yes, that is a humiliation. And it's undeniable that no one was happy.
The crowning of the Stark girl, who was by all reports a wild and boyish young thing with none of the Princess Elia’s delicate beauty, could only have been meant to win the allegiance of Winterfell to Prince Rhaegar’s cause…Yet if this were true, why did Lady Lyanna’s brothers seem so distraught at the honor the prince had bestowed upon her? Brandon Stark, the heir to Winterfell, had to be restrained from confronting Rhaegar at what he took as a slight upon his sister’s honor…Eddard Stark, Brandon’s younger brother and a close friend to Lord Robert, was calmer but no more pleased.
“The Year of the False Spring”, The World of Ice and Fire
But, humiliating Elia is not the same thing as being responsible for her death. The narrative never equates these two things in any way. Elia's death is about Tywin's immoral and blood thirsty political actions. It's about Dorne's desire for justice (or is it vengeance?) which they know they will not get from the Lannister regime. House Lannister's downfall in King's Landing will be brought about by Prince Aegon's rise - Aegon who is proclaiming to be the long lost son of Prince Rhaegar, and who is being supported by House Martell as of now.
We can criticize Rhaegar for some things, but Elia's death is surely not one of them.
