hi kay!! i keep telling myself i need to watch mp100 since it’s supposed to be so good, but i watched the first couple of episodes a while back and didn’t love them. does that mean i won’t like the whole show, or does it sort of grow into itself?

Hii Astrid!! 💜💜 I'm actually thrilled to get this question because I usually field it while reccing the show!! (Prepare for, just, so much text.) I promise it isn't (just) my bias talking when it say yes, it absolutely does grow into itself! I think to an uncertain viewer, the first episodes, especially the first one, are best viewed while keeping in mind that they're setting up the characters and world (not to mention showing off their animation chops) in them. I know I certainly wasn't super interested by them either when I first started watching the show, which is why I'm so excited to defend it!!

Personally, I was truly hooked onto the show by episode five! I'm not sure where you left off at, but if you didn't get to five, I think it's the first one which felt so visceral that it was upsetting AND which showcased the real ethos and struggles mob has in the show to me. After there, things start snowballing quickly, so if you haven't hit five, I'd really really urge you to watch it! In my opinion, the action and character stakes pick up right around there too, so it is 100% (hehe) worth sticking around for.

Not to mention: I think the one sad thing about mp100 getting supremely popular (plus, uh, reigensweep) is that people go into the show knowing that reigen is the most character of all time, but part of the fun is starting off FUCKING HATING HIM. I was genuinely convinced the reigen love was an elaborate joke when I started the show, and being proved wrong felt RAPTUROUS. That is not an exaggeration. There's a reason that I've rewatched the s1 finale more times than I care to count. And, just so I can make a sales pitch one more time: mob psycho 100, with no exaggeration, might be the story which has caused me to cry more consistently than any other media, which is HIGH praise coming from me. I've never met a narrative of its kind which handles its themes with more love or care. I mean it

Tl;dr: yes, the first episodes are slow, but that makes the payoff of going through with the show a thousandfold more potent!!! The pacing in the beginning is much slower, and you could say that the characters are still feeling themselves out. I am sure you'll like the show if you give it a chance, and I really really hope you'll grow to love it as much as I do!!!! Happy watching!!!!!!!

EMPATIA

Se existe uma coisa presente nesse anime é empatia. Você sabe o que é isso? Parece uma palavra fácil de se entender o significado, mas nem tanto. Aliás, está bem em foco na atualidade. Nunca se falou tanto sobre isso. Parece que todo mundo sabe colocar a palavra na frase (às vezes nem isso!), mas o que ela traz parece tão fugaz quanto o rastro das Starlights voando no céu da noite. Se você viu o anime com atenção, estou certo de que vai entender numa boa. Se tem uma coisa que essa franquia tem em seu enredo é empatia. E como tem! Já reparou que no caminho que a série percorre, seja no mangá, no anime dos anos 90, no Live, no Sera Myu… Usagi vive espalhando um amor imenso? Um amor que cativa cada uma das Sailors: a retraída Ami gênio, a assustadora Rei médium, a briguenta Makoto, a solitária misteriosa Minako… Com simplicidade e ternura, nossa princesa aquece o coração de cada uma de nossas Inner Senshi.

emp2 Pois é, a ternura e bondade da princesa, boas e velhas conhecidas. É ela que desperta a poderosa fonte do amor. E quando estamos cheios desses sentimentos maravilhosos, abre-se um mundo lindo para nós. O mundo do outro. Esse sentimentos deixam nosso coração de portas abertas para as pessoas que nos rodeiam. Uma cena que me lembro sempre, e ótimo exemplo, é quando no filme “A promessa da Rosa”, relativo a saga R do anime clássico, cada Iner Senshi tem um flashback e lembra da doçura da Usagi com elas, e as fazendo sentir que não estão sozinhas. Que alguém reconheceu cada uma delas como um ser especial. E num ato desesperado, Usagi grita com todas as suas forças que nunca mais deixaria ninguém se sentir só. emp3 (Alerta spoiler: Filme R) E sem querer dar spoiler (mas já dando), uma das cenas mais bonitas desse mesmo filme é quando a dona do Cristal de Prata, em pleno ataque inimigo se compadece, o olha nos olhos e vê a dor e a tristeza em seu coração e mostra a ele como ela cuidou daquilo que era mais precioso para ele. Pois é, isso é empatia. É poder deixar seu próprio coração aberto para ouvir o coração do outro. É ter a ternura e o amor de acolher as lágrimas de alguém que tem uma dor, de sentir a energia vibrante de quem está legitimamente feliz, a monotonia de quem está cabisbaixo, a falta de visibilidade de quem está sem energia, a esperança de quem está acreditando no melhor, ou seja lá o que for, e retribuir isso com um abraço. Não há como sentir aquilo que está no outro, mas podemos receber essas coisas, boas ou ruins, e nesse abraço dizer sem falar “você não está sozinho”.

Para acabar com seu emocional e fazer você um Moonie ainda mais empático depois deste texto, tenho mais dois exemplos. Em um deles, queria citar minha uma cena favorita minha do anime dos anos 90: emp4 (Alerta spoiler: Saga Stars anime dos anos 90) Depois de uma quase vitória, Neherenia satisfeita de ver a desolação da Rainha da Lua, parte para o ataque direto contra nossa Rainha. Ouvindo toda a tristeza que foi a vida de Neherenia, solitária no lado escuro da lua, Usagi se enche de sua compaixão e se entristece, chora. Indignada, Neherenia se revolta e não entende porque não é odiada diante tamanha maldade que cometeu. É então que nossa Usa diz que ela seria muito infeliz se vivesse tão só quanto Neherenia, mas que se ela abrir o coração, todos poderiam amá-la. Que ninguém deveria viver sozinho, na solidão. A cena é linda, poderosa. Com esse ato de puro amor, os feitiços de Neherenia perdem a força, as Sailors se libertam de suas prisões de espelhos e dizem palavras de acolhimento e amor para a inimiga. Ela começa a lembrar seu sonho de quanto era criança: Não sentir-se só. Neherenia volta a ser uma criança ganha uma chance de recomeçar. emp5 (Mais um spoiler! Agora do mangá. Arco stars) E para fechar os momentos épicos de empatia: a cena em que a eternal Sailor Moon salva Sailor Galaxia de cair no caldeirão galático. Ela se lança em direção à vilã, pega sua mão e a trás de volta à terra firme. Sem entender, Galaxia pergunta porque ela agiu assim e Usagi responde que viu em Galaxia ela mesma, solitária. Nas palavras frias de Galaxia, Sailor Moon se reconhece. A solidão dela fez Usagi ver sua própria condição solitária e isso a fez salvar sua oponente. Mais do que só ter o coração aberto para as outras pessoas, empatia é permitir que o que o outro sente chegue até nós. E isso nos aproxima. É de uma força incrível. Nos torna capazes de encontrar a humanidade num inimigo, tarefa nada fácil, por exemplo. Imagina quantas coisas mais a empatia pode nos permitir realizar… Um abraço terno e quentinho em cada um que sente uma dor que as palavras mal podem explicar, seja ela qual for, e que vocês possam encontrar o amor através da empatia daqueles que te cercam. Abram seus corações também. Permitam-se serem amados.

E não se esqueçam: a luz da lua traz uma mensagem de amor. Vamos ler juntos?
