I sit uncomfortably in the autistic uncanny valley between "What do you mean you can't find a job?" and "Yeah, I'm not hiring that weird guy."
As a result, all of my applications in the last 5 years have been rejected, often with very encouraging words. But I don't care about your encouraging words.
I don't fucking care if I look "normal enough" that I should have no trouble finding a job. I'm clearly not. The differences that shouldn't matter are clearly a big deal for employers. I don't know, can't know, what it is exactly, despite my efforts, but they do. They don't like the vibe. They don't like the "weird" skill discrepancy.
I've even gone to multiple-stage interviews. It's always the same. Good luck, no doubt you'll find a place elsewhere. No. Stop lying. You only want people who think like you do. If you're hiring autistic people, you want them clearly labeled as disabled.
I have no doubt that once I finally have my official label and all the paperwork done, things will get easier. But let's not pretend that society is accepting of neurodivergence.
The only jobs I've been able to do either don't require an interview in person or were in free lance. Never had any complaint. But I made more money by not working and relying on social benefits instead. It's just nonsensical.

I’m in part-time employment hell where I make just enough to pay taxes and bills, but not enough to feel fully employed. Underemployment, if you will.
In the states, at least, the job market is criminally horrendous. Multiply that for your bitches who can’t drive/don’t have a driver’s license (it’s me, I’m bitches).
It’s humiliating to apply to dozens upon dozens of positions only to be rejected or worse, straight up ghosted. I’m overqualified for almost everything I apply for. For what I am qualified for, I am exhausted to the point where I don’t put in the effort I should to apply. After all, what’s the point? They won’t consider me anyway. A piss poor attitude that is actively working against me, sure, but I know I’m far from the only one who feels this way.
All this yapping is to say, we are all closer to unemployment than we think we are. It took me about 3-4 months to find a job, and I have a bachelor’s degree. I graduated last year. I still feel unemployed half the time and have more time for shenanigans than others: I work part-time retail.
I’ve been the unemployed friend and the underemployed friend.
Not only have I essentially done a thesis (capstone project), I feel I am part of this walking thesis.
It’s hard not to feel hopeless in this current job market, especially amongst the slew of “no one wants to work anymore” and “young people these days are lazy, entitled, xyz, etc.” Anti-intellectualism, the unwillingness to think critically, and the loss of respect for a university/college education is STAGGERING. Evidently colleges “teach liberal propaganda” and “make your kids woke.” Then there’s the discourse that liberal arts degrees are meaningless in comparison to STEM degrees, even within the student population. It’s sickening and exhausting. I worked four, almost five if you count high school dual credit courses, years only to be spat on and told my degree is meaningless (I’m a communication graduate) or that I should get a master’s. Mind you, I’m also now up to my asscheeks in student debt.
The rhetoric from those who do not understand the meaning of a liberal arts education other than making “hehe har har gender studies and english majors” jabs is frankly dangerous. Not to mention, often sexist when you take a look at the demographics of those currently in academia.
There are so many neglected layers in the conversations about unemployment and underemployment, it’s laughable. It is more than laziness or the unwillingness to work. There are conversations about hiring procedures and workplace ethics to be had. Places will claim to be hiring and just stack back applications for when an employee inevitably quits. Working conditions, disability accommodations, the minimum wage, the assigned values of different types of labor. The current state of American social security and disability programs, and the limitations that often keep many in poverty. All of this, and then some, makes up the conversation about labor in the United States.
And yet, the young people struggling to find work are essentially pissed on and told to “pull themselves up by their bootstraps.”
I actually do feel like the "unemployed friend on a Tuesday" meme actually helps de-stigmatize unemployment because it frequently affirms that when you don't have a job you're more likely to be getting up to some weird shit rather than just lazing around. But I also feel like the unemployed friend is frequently up to some random shit because there's a whole pile of miscellaneous life tasks that full-time employment keeps people from. The unemployed friend is helping their cousin move, or babysitting, or checking in with a neighbor with mobility issues. The unemployed friend is a walking thesis on the inflexibility of our current labor landscape and just how much work exists outside of work.
#i’m tired y’all#living the american dream or something#so much for that good job and secure future adults told you you’d have if you went to college#rant#adulthood rants#employment#employee#employability#thanks for coming to my ted talk

Reducing Hiring Time with a Trusted Recruitment Partner
Recruitment has always been one of the most critical, yet time-consuming, aspects of organizational growth. The longer a position remains open, the more it costs the business in terms of productivity, morale, and revenue. This is where a trusted recruitment partner like Middle East Management Services (MEMS LLP) becomes a game-changer. By leveraging professional expertise, businesses can reduce hiring time while improving candidate quality.
The High Cost of a Lengthy Hiring Process
Before we delve into the benefits of recruitment partnerships, it’s crucial to understand the ramifications of slow hiring. Every day a position remains vacant is a day your team is overworked, deadlines are delayed, and opportunities are potentially lost. Studies show that prolonged hiring can result in:
Higher costs per hire
Decline in team morale
Decreased candidate quality due to dropout
Increased workload for HR departments
Why Hiring Speed Matters More Than Ever
In today’s fast-paced business environment, speed is a competitive advantage. Companies that move fast not only attract better candidates but also send a strong signal about their organizational agility and decision-making capabilities. The war for talent is fierce, and top candidates are usually off the market within 10 days. Delays in hiring can lead to missed opportunities, especially when competing with aggressive employers.
What Is a Trusted Recruitment Partner?
A trusted recruitment partner is more than just a staffing agency. It is an experienced ally who understands your industry, company culture, and hiring objectives. Middle East Management Services (MEMS LLP), for example, goes beyond sourcing resumes; we act as strategic consultants who:
Identify and attract top-tier talent
Reduce time-to-hire through refined processes
Provide market insights and salary benchmarks
Pre-screen candidates to ensure cultural fit
Key Benefits of Partnering with a Recruitment Agency
1. Access to a Wider Talent Pool
Recruitment agencies like MEMS LLP maintain vast networks of active and passive candidates. By tapping into this expansive database, businesses can identify talent that might never apply through traditional channels.
2. Streamlined Hiring Process
Trusted recruiters such as MEMS LLP follow a well-oiled, optimized hiring process. We handle job postings, application screening, initial interviews, and even background checks. This efficiency significantly cuts down the time spent on each hiring stage.
3. Reduced Burden on Internal HR
Your in-house HR team has multiple responsibilities. Partnering with a recruitment agency like MEMS LLP allows them to focus on strategic initiatives rather than being bogged down with admin-intensive hiring processes.
4. Expertise in Niche Hiring
Hiring for specialized roles often takes longer due to limited talent availability. Recruitment partners with niche market expertise, such as MEMS LLP, can help you locate and secure the right candidates faster.
5. Quality Over Quantity
Recruitment partners like MEMS LLP are committed to delivering pre-vetted, qualified candidates who meet your specific requirements. This eliminates unnecessary interviews and reduces the likelihood of poor hires.
How Recruitment Partners Use Technology to Accelerate Hiring
Modern recruitment firms, including MEMS LLP, leverage AI-based screening tools, automated ATS platforms, and predictive analytics to match candidates more accurately and quickly. These technologies enable faster shortlisting and better candidate-job alignment.
Custom Recruitment Strategies That Save Time
Each company is unique. A trusted recruitment partner like MEMS LLP will tailor hiring strategies based on:
Urgency of the role
Organizational structure
Industry trends
Employer branding
This custom approach ensures that every aspect of the hiring pipeline is optimized for speed and efficiency.
Building Long-Term Relationships for Ongoing Success
The real advantage of working with a recruitment partner like MEMS LLP lies in long-term collaboration. Over time, we gain an in-depth understanding of your company culture, evolving needs, and talent expectations. This relationship leads to:
Faster future hires
Consistent candidate quality
Lower turnover rates
Case Study: Fast Hiring with the Right Recruitment Partner
A mid-sized tech firm struggling with high turnover and slow hiring times saw remarkable results after partnering with a trusted recruitment agency like MEMS LLP. Within three months:
Time-to-hire dropped by 40%
Quality of hire improved
Candidate satisfaction increased
This success was achieved through targeted sourcing, improved employer branding, and a data-driven hiring strategy.
Final Thoughts: Hire Smarter, Not Slower
Reducing hiring time isn’t about cutting corners; it’s about being smart and strategic. A trusted recruitment partner such as Middle East Management Services (MEMS LLP) brings both speed and quality to your hiring process, helping you secure top talent without the traditional delays. In a competitive hiring landscape, the right partner can be your biggest asset.
