watched a lot more pokeani than i usually do in a day because i had it on to entertain me as i unpacked my things from college and i had to restrain myself from continuing bc WTF we are on the master class arc already????????????????????

actually i think it would be interesting to compare fool for love and restless pursuit of blood as bits of storytelling/narrative construction i will most likely be attempting this at some point. i love it when things are similar and different other things

By the way, if anyone was curious about any more organized close combat choreography from Stampede's ep12 finale, my short answer would be.....uhhhhh lmao, not really? :'D

Except for a few familiar tonfa-gun parries while Vash deliberately shielded Meryl for her to escape (note how he takes his eyes off Knives for a moment to check back on her, likely his nonverbal signal she acknowledges from him to go), the close gunshot that Knives deliberately matrix-dodged away, and the cool midair backflip Vash did outside, the entire final boss 'fight' was pretty much the most elaborate 'disorganized' game of keep away + hot potato (with unleashed knife-throwing & gunslinging around a literal MacGuffin nuke) between two non-human siblings just going completely ham feral: biting, thrashing, slamming, bodily throwing, and kicking each other inelegantly all over the place. (Spiced with tons of 'rule of cool,' staged inside, outside, midair, and in space!)

It's notable because except for that one dodged shot it seemed like Vash aimed at Knives' neck(?) almost all of his shooting was purposely (characteristically) done to disarm and temporarily stun/stagger/disable at places like arms, shoulders, and legs etc to get Knives to slow down and back off. (That, and Knives was basically impervious to bullet wounds anyway, even the 'upgraded' shells with Plant markings.)

This is important because despite how fancy, powerful, and batshit dangerous it seemed, they were not fighting to kill each other. :O Yes, even Knives! Because if he really wanted to (aka if he was pure evil and didn't care about Vash, thankfully untrue), he could have chopped off Vash's other arm & legs (or worse) to get the thing he wanted, but no - that's not how he handled or approached the fight either, despite how pissed off and desperate he was. Most of the time (that I could see) he was thrashing his literal knives (long distance) around to shake him off (ex: grabbing his leg and tossing him) to get Vash to drop/lose his grip on the cube, and up close he was grabbing/flailing with his bare hands (no bared weapons--he kept those off, or even with any...actual technique?? lol Knives is not a trained 'human' fighter) trying to reach the thing while shouting/arguing in Vash's face. (Vash is the one who bit him in response, literally having both his hands full.)

Noteworthy because even after studying gifs of the whole fight and rewatching the ep, not once did I ever catch a lethally aimed attack (with express intent to hurt or maim with malice) from Knives at Vash! :O (Knives' priority was aiming for the cube, not so much at Vash.) Unlike how he instantly slaughtered all the spectating soldiers in half who interfered (and hurt Vash.)

So that's right, the only damage Vash sustained was from the human soldiers who shot at him - at least twice across his chest and once thru his foot (see gifs, the rest his jacket looked bullet-proof, ricocheting off him), and the only damage Knives received was when he purposely threw himself into the final Angel Arm blast, against Vash's desperate pleading at him to stop. :'D Ohhh these poor tragic dysfunctional siblings who still very much care for each other...

Some aspects of Laudna's behavior from the most recent ep have really started to stand out to me re: her backstory. We're told basically that after leaving Whitestone she roamed to different cities and was subsequently run out of many places by the townsfolk for being...well, a creepy undead witch. This is really all we know of thirty years of her life, we have nothing more detailed than that until Gelvaan, which is also not very detailed on what exactly she was doing there. And it's interesting because this backstory feels like it's meant to elicit a lot of sympathy on Laudna's behalf--i.e. she is being wrongly chased out of places for the crime of being/looking different. But something about the way she approached Imahara Joe's establishment--sending in the creepy whispers, specifically making a bunch of terrifying "rattling noises", and responding with a smile and saying "It works every time" when they heard a noise in response--really has me like. okay. Laudna, did you get chased out of places because you were terrorizing people in those places? because it sounds like you've done this before, potentially many times, and what's "fun scary" to one person can so very easily be "scary scary" to the people on the other end of the schtick.

Laudna clearly loves people, but I do have to wonder if she experiences a certain amount of dissonance about the effects that her actions cause. She very much has this Manic Demon Nightmare Girl persona thing going on, and that delighted, manic energy mixed with her penchant for the macabre, often directed at other people where she enjoys their freaked out reactions? I think, perhaps, there were reasons she kept getting run out of places that we have not, uh, unpacked as of yet.

To go deeper with this, Laudna is a character who rarely feels like she's in charge of her own destiny. Some of this is intentional, like the repeated puppet imagery re: Delilah. But I wonder if, perhaps, Laudna is someone who has had so many things--bad things, terrible things--happen to her that she had learned to erase her own role in her life. There was nothing she could do when the Briarwoods took over Whitestone, there was nothing she could do when she was murdered by Delilah, and there was nothing she could do when she was resurrected as the undead creachure that she is today. But there are thing she could have done in the intervening thirty years to change her situation. She could have pursued threads about getting rid of Delilah for thirty years, long before meeting Imogen. She could have (somewhat) altered her behavior so she wasn't freaking people out wherever she went and maybe she could have stayed somewhere. She could have been proactive in making changes and pursuing things in her life and I just wonder if she has forgotten that she can do that for herself and that the things she does do have consequences. In ep 49, she told Imogen, "The gods have never kept us from our ability to have a choice." But she only says this to Imogen. When does Laudna finally make an active choice? When does she realized that her behavior and the consequences of the behavior are in her control? When does Laudna decide that it's time to stop being a spectator in her own story, a person that things happen to? Soon, I hope. She should be the main character of her own story, and right now she simply isn't

they’re just watching everyone in amusement

inside the actual house, she sees haechan lying down on the couch

“stay still”

she plops herself down, head on his stomach and feet over the arm of the couch

he grunts at the impact then starts laughing

“stop laughing! my head is shaking”

he laughs harder before telling the other members to move away from the window

they both get up to look at the view with the others

she laughs when they point out the sound team and cleans up the toys they were playing with

“GUYS COME HERE” “GEGE CALM DOWN”

chenle laughed the hardest at that

while everyone gets on the tub, she waits then decides to stand in the back next to haechan who she asks a question to

“why are we doing this?” “we listen to renjun”

when they gather to discuss the survival game, she crosses her arms and looks at everyone

“so do i get to play? or does this count as part of taeyong oppa and hyuck’s “no violent games for hannah” list?”

jaemin throws an arm around her shoulders

“no physical contact, so you’re playing” “damn”

haechan fixes the beanie on her head while helping her into the gear

she bounces slightly in place, moving to keep warm while the instructor tells them what to do and the boys ness around

once in, she hides behind one of the wooden boards and fixes her gloves before holding her gun

“i am not going grocery shopping”

she gets up and spots mark, shooting him from the back and hiding again

“wait…. hans! was that you?”

she stood up, shooting him continuously until he dies before he could kill her

“dude!” “every man for himself, mark!”

she actually moves forward

there a clips if her shooting renjun and jaemin before she hides again and sees chenle

“noona! noona, let's be allies?” “sure thing, chenle”

she and chenle go back out into the field and take down jeni and renjun again

she’s in the middle of running away from haechan when she realizes

“where’s jaemin?”

she looks ahead and sees jisung looking up in confusion, then sees jaemin shooting from near the rest area for spectators

she and haechan exchange looks for a moment then haechan shoots her, effectively killing her

she gave him an incredulous look before haechan laughed and ran away

there’s more clips of her shooting and being shot at before the instructor calls them over

when haechan doesn’t call her name, she grins, then he says those he called goes home

“are you kidding me, hyuck?” “haeeun-ah, i trust you”

she sighs and loops her arm through chenle’s in solidarity

in the car, she’s the one in the driver’s seat

when mark asked why he chose the three in last place to go home, she scoffed

“hyuck was being petty for variety because of our cheering” “what?”

she left it for chenle to explain as she buckled her seatbelt

when mark turned the camera to chenle in his frustration, it caught her smiling fondly at the younger boy and gently brushing his cheek

she started the car

“you three talk amongst yourselves, don’t distract me while i drive”

jeno opened a vitamin drink and passed it to her before she pulled out of the parking lot

“wait, hannah, what are you cooking today?” “i can make hotteok for us to snack on, but is there anything you guys want as a meal?” “how about a soup?” “hmm… does yukgaejang sound good?” “sounds great” “good, now don’t distract me!”

she pulls out of the parking lot while the other three continue debating what else to cook

when they arrived at the store, chenle walked over to her side of the car and opened the door for her

she looked at chenle attentively while he talked about his sunglasses

“lele, i told you not to wear your sunglasses at night, didn’t i?” “they’re a necessity, noona”

then it fades out and shows clips of the next episode

Lookism: Ep 468 Reaction

SPOILERS ALERT

In this chapter, a new revelation was made regarding an intriguing question within the story, while a new question was asked.

To Warren, Vasco, and Jerry's shock, the two Daniels battled it out with the intent to kill. The Body (I wouldn't call it Big Daniel since it's currently soulless and since there will be a panel that's granted will change your mind about it if you still see it as a living human being) was monstrously strong.

Daniel was still the underdog of this intense battle but with his ultimate instinct he landed more hits on the Body than before. Unfortunately the Body could now copy even Taesoo, Jichang, and of course Gun, (obviously learning from how Daniel previously attacked it) at an alarming speed.

The spectators (Warren & co.) wondered how Daniel was cornered, when he grew that strong already, but the answer was clear: the Body somehow, strangely, was more experienced. The Body even moved like someone the spectators had never seen before, but it was hinted that the person it copied was none other than Jake's notorious brother!

(BUT THE BODY HAD NEVER MET JAKE'S BROTHER IN THIS TIMELINE. SO WHEN DID IT MEET HIM TO KNOW HOW TO COPY HIS MOVES...??? DUN DUN...)

Daniel finally landed a critical hit on the Body, and they both fainted.

That is, until the Body rose up again in this manner. (EEEEEPPPP THIS CAME STRAIGHT OUT OF THOSE ZOMBIE MOVIES I SWEAR)

Vasco was almost attacked, so Warren and Jerry decided to bring "their friend" back to his senses, and Vasco joined them too. Even though they were tired as hell from their previous fights and would absolutely lose (GUYS GUYS IT'S A SHELL. DANIEL TELL THEM! OH WAIT YOU'RE OUT COLD).

Elsewhere, Jake woke up not remembering much about the latter parts of his fight against drugged Samuel, but Alexander summed it up for him while massaging Samuel's feet (BWAHAHAHAH THIS IS SOMETHING THAT HOBIN & co. DID TO PEOPLE WHO FAINTED IN HOW TO FIGHT/VIRAL HIT).

True to his mission, Jake left to find Jinyoung, whom he used to call "Uncle" and who loved him so much, being so gentle (I'm sad for the two of them). He walked alone and found Jinyoung's lab.

Bongae already warned him about Jinyoung, but Jake greeted Jinyoung anyway, which incensed the pharmacologist because all that he saw in Jake was Jake's older brother...

...THE MURDERER OF KIM GABRYONG.

Jinyoung seemed to have witnessed the violent tragedy alone and he had never been all right since, allegedly. And so with Gabryong's techniques that Jake inherited and Jinyoung copied, they prepared to fight...

That's it for this week. I already sensed that Daniel was going to lose, and that the Body was unstoppable at this point. But seeing little Jake and young Jinyoung so happy and now so broken, broke my heart.
