PART 2: Episode 8 Preview
Second, Ray. Sand says they were never friends and Ray is going to do to Mew what he did to Sand.
We can see by his face that Ray is hurt by this. We don't know exactly when this part of the preview happens in the episode but I am assuming its towards the beginning (they are wearing the outfits we see at the end of Episode 7). Ray doesn't want to lose Sand (resulting in the later possessiveness Ray has later on).
I think we can be accurate in saying that up until now in the show, the person Ray has felt happiest with is Sand. They have fun together, and Sand is an outsider to the friend group, so that label of failure that Ray feels with is friends isn't there, or at least to a lesser degree. Sand has taken care of him when his own friends haven't, and Ray feels comfortable around him. Ray doesn't want to lose this person, especially because I believe Ray does have feelings for him, even if he doesn't recognize them beyond, "I like being with this person."
Ray has been in love with Mew for a while, and in a way that is sort of a label that has been adapted to him (in his own self view). He is used to being in love with Mew, but Mew doesn't like him back. Then he meets Sand, and people continue putting that label on him. I think he feels like in the friend group, as Mew obviously remembers the kiss as does Boston. With Sand he escapes it somewhat, at least until Boston brings it up, and now he has that label from Sand too. My point is that he was/is in love with Mew, and other people see him as in love with Mew, that maybe he hasn't considered that maybe he could be in love with someone else. I'm not trying to say he is in love with Mew just because other people say he is, I think it just causes him to view the way he feels towards Mew and the way he feels towards Sand differently. What he feels for Mew is love and what he feels for Sand isn't the same as what he feels for what he feels for Mew so what he feels for Sand isn't love (in his eyes). This is just a theory but I thought it would be interesting to think about if how everyone was perceiving his crush affects the way he views it.
One thing that also hurts is the statement that he will do what he did to Sand to Mew. To Ray, this may seem like another is a long line of people saying he isn't good enough, this time not good enough to keep Mew or keep a relationship. The implication is that Ray will have his fun with Mew and then drop him, or something to that affect. This relationship is something Ray has wanted for such a long time, wanted more than anything really, and something Ray would try hard to keep, and Sand just says that he is going to mess it up. (Ray's best efforts will never be enough to keep what he loves, essentially. Another failure for him. While I don't think this is really what Sand meant, it could be what Ray interpret.)
And to add to the hurt of this is that fact that it is Sand of all people who is saying it. Ray didn't feel that Sand viewed him as a failure. Sand has supported Ray, not in everything he did, but at least was there for him for the most part. This is a feeling Ray has felt before, but never with Sand as the cause.
Now that Sand has turned him down, Ray goes with another method to make sure he doesn't lose him. I am definitely one of the people who believes this possessiveness is does come from Ray having some sort of feelings for Sand. But we'll see how it all goes down.

One - a real "be careful what you wish for" moment for Sand, huh.
Two - Ray and Mew dressing up like the Joker and Harley Quinn from two different, unconnected, only barely tangentially related movies is SO insane.

Why do you think they put Savannah Claw Rook up to pull??? Is he even going to participate in Book 7???? I am so confused WHY HIM??? WHY NOT IDK, CREWEL? VARGAS? MAYBE TREIN?? WHY HIM.
I’m SO CONFUSED. Is it just for money grabbing or something like that? It doesn’t make any sense.
Also how prepared you are for the probably last update of Book 7?
I mean...it said he's a story card, and all the other story cards have had major roles, so I see no reason to assume he won't as well! (plus any staff cards are probably all going to be events like Crowley was; I would honestly be MORE surprised to see them as story cards.) really though I'm having fun trying to figure out how he's going to tie into things! we're back at Cerberus Ortho levels of "WHAT DOES IT MEEEAAAAN" and it's great. :D
I assume we're going to be doing some more dream-hopping, but I think it would be hilarious if it turned out to be someone else's dream instead of Rook's. who else could possibly be dreaming about him pre-fancification.

(I'm also half afraid that this really is the last part, and half afraid that it isn't. I'm -- I'm not going to believe anything until we get the diadorm rerun pickups, and maybe not even then)

After rewatching the Ep8 preview a few more times, I'm not too worried about Sand finally taking a stand against Ray. Regardless if he caves to Ray at any point later (which would admittedly be a step backwards), the preview sees him embodying a cold, disappointed tone as he tells Ray, "I think you and I were never friends from the beginning."
Follow this up with, "Whatever you did to me, you will soon do to Mew," and Sand feels almost removed from the situation. We already know that Sand has a tendency to retreat into himself and shut down when his emotions are threatened, yet Sand is very communicative here. I think we are witnessing Sand at the end (or what he thinks is the end) of a very painful process: acceptance. He thinks he's ready to move on, and whether or not he truly is isn't the point.
It's heartbreaking from a SandRay relationship standpoint, but it's encouraging from a Sand-self-worth standpoint. Really I'm choosing to be hopeful because as others have pointed out, Sand standing up to Ray seems like the only way forward for SandRay. So long as Ray thinks he can continue tossing Sand around, their relationship will remain in limbo.

OFMD theories and predictions based on new BTS footage
These are all theories relating to episodes 7 and 8 of OFMD season two, and if you want to know my overall predictions for those episodes check out my previous posts
Tumblr media
First of all, nice to see more footage of the finale reunion on the beach. Something I noticed is Ed saying “who’s your friend?”. This suggests Ed has been separated from the group whilst Stede, Spanish Jackie, Zheng and the Revenge plot and make their attack on the English. I have two theories:
1- Ed was separated from Stede during the raid in episode 7, perhaps even caught by Ricky and the English, and sometime in episode 8 escapes to join Stede on the battlefield. I’m reluctant to bank on this theory because I’m not sure where Ed could have got his Blackbeard costume.
2- Ed was separated from Stede and the group after the raid, but was not in Spanish Jackies when Zheng arrived in episode 7. Perhaps he is going on his own solo mission to rescue Izzy, whilst the rest focus on Ricky and the English
I think the gif below is then from after the beach scene, but as we can see there is no sign of Izzy and they still look like their in mission mode, so the battle is far from over.
Tumblr media
Finally there’s this scene, which is from after the battle (confirmed by Stede’s earring and Ed’s Blackbeard uniform). There are some suggestions that it’s Ed’s childhood home - obviously Edward Teach was born in Bristol, and this ain’t Bristol, but when has Jenkins cared about historical accuracy. Won’t discount the theory but not 100% sold. Could also be a possible retirement home for Ed and Stede.

So Aniplex USA did make a mistake in last episode’s preview 😅 episode 8 is where Momose and Shirosaki go to Akita, officially for business, but make a visit to Shirosaki’s family home because his grandma wanted to show him something 😆
Looks like Bacha’s busting out the old photo album and some stories to go with it 😆☺️

I want to discuss the beginning of ep 8 teaser, where Ray and Sand are having a conversation. Ray says words to the effect of, "I still want to be friends" and Sand says words to the effect, "We were never friends; you are going to do to Mew what you did to me."
First (no pun intended) of all, Sand is doing what he has already done multiple times in this series: attempting to safeguard his feelings. Sand started off this friendship of sorts with him saying in the confessional essentially that Ray and him sleeping together and being friends had potential to go wrong. Unfortunately for him, he is proved right and starts having feelings for Ray. But he does still hold out a sense of hope that maybe Ray will feel the same way. It isn't a large hope (at least initially), since Sand seems like a person who keeps himself grounded in reality. After all, he is one of the characters who seems to face the problems of reality on a daily basis, having multiple jobs, and not having a lot of money (whereas the rest of them seem more financially secure). But I feel like Sand wouldn't view the idea of Ray having feelings for him as realistic.
Then Ray spends that day going everywhere with him, which is essentially an example of what it could be like being in a relationship with him could be like. They eat breakfast together, go shopping, go to a concert, and are having a really good time together. We see ourselves that Sand says to his mother that him and Ray aren't a thing, but maybe they could be. The events of the episode build hope that maybe Ray and him could be together. And then Boston happens.
He reveals that Ray has feelings for Mew and has had them for years. And just like his hope is broken by reality. Ray has feelings for someone else, including during the whole time Ray and Sand have been hanging out, proving to Sand that anything that made him feel like Ray liked him back was a false hint. So he tries to protect his own feelings by distancing himself from Ray, starting with when Ray tells Sand to ask him any questions. Sand should have taken him up on that, but he doesn't. Ray didn't deny his feelings for Mew when Boston brought it up, so it appears that its true. What else could Ray say about it that would make Sand feel any better? The worst has already been said, so there is no point is asking any more questions. Sand says it isn't his business, meaning he isn't important enough in Ray's life for Ray to need to share his feelings OR Ray's feelings for Mew doesn't overlap with Ray and Sand sleeping together, because at the beginning Ray and Sand has said they would be just friends, so feelings aren't supposed to enter the equation. Either way, emotional distance.
Followed by physical distance: Ray says that Sand has been ignoring messages and asks if he is mad about the whole situation with Mew (which Sand once again replies with that it is none of his business). Sand only is there to tell Ray about the sex tape, and he knows what path telling him will lead to. Ray does the whole revelation at the bar, and Sand realizes that it has gone farther than intended. He tries to stop Ray from driving, then follows him when it doesn't work. He takes care of Ray while he recovers from the car accident (and apologizes for telling Ray about the sex tape, to which Ray says he doesn't need to) and I feel like they fall back into their old dynamic again. Ray brings back the pleases, Sand caves to him, they tease each other a little. The next thing Sand sees regarding Ray is Ray and Mew dancing together, very clearly in a romantic way. His expression is disappointed, definitely, but I think to him it is just further proof that Ray doesn't like him romantically and he should give up on hope, now that Ray has the person he's always wanted. So when in the preview Ray asks if they can be friends, Sand says that they never were friends, shutting Ray down because once again, Sand wants to spare his own feelings. Continuing to be friends, when he would continuous see the person he loves with someone else, would hurt a lot and he is unwilling to do that to himself.
Honestly I think Sand's statements in the preview have a little bitterness to them. I think Sand feels a little used because as I said above, with Sand taking care of Ray after the accident, they fell back into their previous dynamic, maybe Sand thought things were going better again, and now he sees him with Mew. Sand doesn't regret taking care of Ray because he cares about Ray, but I think it definitely stings that Ray ran to Mew afterwards, when Mew did nothing for Ray regarding the accident, and didn't even run after him after the events in the bar (while Sand did and tried to stop Ray from driving).
I think Sand saying we were never friends is interesting too. There were other ways he could have worded that but he chose to say not that they aren't friends, but that they never were.
Is this because he wants to deny connection entirely (more distancing) or because he is stating that their relationship has never been that of friends (what with the kissing and such)?
I'm not sure which one I think but both are interesting.
This got too long so I made it two parts.
