Day Twenty One
don’t run away
disappear to someplace like
Memphis or Brazil
where no one can follow
you don’t need rescue
or common heroics
you stopped your bleeding
so just wait
take a moment
somewhere behind you
a new voice is ready
to call your name

The elements kept close watch
as she turned her face.
A sign of escape clearly glowed.
Curious thought prickled
behind gray windows,
but she was safe.
Safe enough.
She didn’t need to follow.
But the rockets purred so sweet.
Her safe thoughts fell away
as she blinked.
She held to the light,
needing to bloom.

She and I
Chastened  the body suspected cream and coral bits polished as  spotless as her expression. Her mind a stasis spell warded against my word.

God Said So
"How do you cause people to believe in an imagined order such as Christianity, democracy, or capitalism? First, you never admit that the order is imagined. You always insist that the order sustaining society is an objective reality created by the great gods or by the laws of nature. People are unequal, not because Hammurabi said so, but because Enlil and Marduk decreed it. People are equal, not because Thomas Jefferson said so, but because God created them that way. Free markets are the best economic system, not because Adam Smith said so, but because these are the immutable laws of nature."
-Yuval Noah Harari, 'The Prison Walls', Sapiens.
How do you believe in
an imagined order
such as
Christianity?
The order
is imagined.
You insist
that the order
is an objective reality
created by God.
People are unequal
because
‘God said so.’

“Good Will Do” A blackout poem.
There are things
Which I have
Always thought
Sacred and belonging
To a forgiving and pleasant time;
When men and women
Open their hearts to people
I believe good will do good

Day Twenty
It was a good day,
sun shining, pleasant.
But then, a small event.
I think about it,
occasionally.
Ask why:
Why cause such misery?
Intend such ruin?
But I didn’t go to a neat grave.
A light insisted on living in me.
Not glitzy or showy,
a little tiny,
at a distance.
And over time, it became
a million times more.
A bomb of light exploding
slowly
over years.

the one you couldn’t see
what you wanted the most, alone
in the dark silence, wondering
your reddened eyes asking questions
knocking on time’s door, looking
for chance, easy favors
before the tests, the work
the peculiar replies
will you pay attention?
will you believe?
