i know nothing about coding but if i did i'd rip the damn game apart and pull out all the dialogue for quests and put them in a. idk spreadsheet or google doc or something. i HATE how this high school story and hollywood u are so badly perserved and documented, partially through the fault of its creators. i get that these are niche games that a grand total of five people even remember them but if i think about how an ENTIRE HALF OF THE STORY IS GONE BECAUSE THERE'S A REQUIRED SERVER CHECK it makes my blood boil.

hi! this is not a bad idea at all, especially since hwu is… very lost. i’ll get to work on something like this as soon as possible! i’ll also make my hss screenshots available.

i’ll use this ask to rant. i simpatize with you… way too much. i try not to speak about this very often because it just makes me angry and because, well, it’s a super niche game and we had around four years to organize and archive it but… it is a niche game. by 2022, who even was active in the fandom besides like… me and five other people? not to mention it was very out of the blue, with such a small window between the announcement and the shut down it was impossible to archive everything. i spent full days trying to screenshot as much of high school story as i could. and now i regret i didn’t spend this time archiving hollywood u instead. but what is done is done.

i think… i mean, as much as it sucks, high school story is still fully playable if you have the .apk (or if you have it in your ios). what really, really bothers me is how hollywood u is essentially… lost media? the game itself, yes, but over 20-30 quests are missing from the files because they were released after pixelberry (apparently) decided to store some of the assets on the online server and not locally anymore. even if i were to drop the quests in a word .doc, it still wouldn’t be fully available. and that makes me angry. hwu was last updated in 2018 with a “fix”. why couldn’t they have used the opportunity to make these files available locally? it was pretty obvious at that point the games were sunsetting one day. might have given the chance for the fans to preserve it in some way since hwu would be locked behind a server check forever.

i don’t know. i’m not a dev. but i’m pretty sure they had the tools and the means, they just didn’t see it as worthy of their time. and i get it a little. they were very busy with choices at that time. these games were very dead. pb was past them. but come on. hss and hwu were part of pixelberry’s history and i like to believe these games deserved more than what they got. ~30 days between the announcement and the shut down? please. a little bit more of respect for the art they themselves created!! i think it all just boils down to me feeling… angry, sad and… heartbroken that one of theses games is completely unplayable in 2024 and forever. just like that. to expunge and deprive people from the art you once delighted in creating and sharing is sad!

I'm not sure this would be considered in a good way, but I watched Snatch and it immediately became one of my faves. I think it was more to do with the creative shots and editing of scenes (which I loved) and some of the character's lines, than the actual story, but I remember thinking about it for days on end afterwards. Actually no the story was also a banger too, but I remember thinking 'man there are so many characters in this movie'. I definitely want to rewatch it tho!

I also remember a short clip from the evangelion anime (not the whole show or even episode though help) that i saw on youtube, really resonated w me! It was from the last episodes of the season, where it becomes more philosophical and a bit cooked, and there was dialogue between Shinji, Asuka and Misato - and I felt like i deeply understood what they were talking about!! Anyway this isnt even a movie it was like a 2 minute clip 😭 but! It's made me want to rewatch the eva anime :)

I watched Zoolander for the first time too! It made me realise, how good it is to watch a silly movie that has a plot but, it's just silly. Anyway I was surprised by how much I liked it 🩷✨️

I think there are a lot of us like that who don't care for or believe this longterm secret relationship by Armie or Timmy or any celebrity ship either cause this isn't the golden age of Hollywood where people had to hide that they were gay for fear of not having a career but also for fear of prison.

I think it's silly atp but my love for cmbyn, that movie, the work by both guys and Luca is real and to me that's grounded in truth versus a silly romance that's too crazy to believe.

Some actors still have to/choose not to come out n the reasons arent as simple and naive as “u cant be a gay actor” or fear of prison (..lol?) but more for the strategic public image thats knda been instilled around “heartthrobs” esp in a market thats consumed heavily by girls and gay men - if u wanna reach that level of stardom. So it’s not like it’s illegal or they’ll have 0 gig babe, it’s just that it’s easier to be a straight white man, anywhere in most of industries, unfortunately. And then some ppl simply don’t wanna come out and it’s not always bcs of “hollywood”; it could be bcs of other reasons in their personal lives that we simply won’t know. They’re just humans w real human thoughts and challenges too. When you see it that way it becomes more reasonable and less ‘scandalous’ for actors to do that.

All that being said, i’m not saying i think anyone is or isn’t hiding their sexuality, but only bcs i never seriously cared about anyone’s sexuality to begin with - except if they wanna fuck ME lol. Idc ab Armie’s or Timmy’s sexuality or their private relationships (well.. Armie, i’ll hv my eyes on him bcs of the war trauma lmao).

But at the same time, I also don’t care if people want to stan or ship anyone as long as they’re being considerate abt these people’s privacy. I’m not gnna police how ppl spend their time as long as they’re respectful n spread love n fun stuff bcs I don’t understand what does it matter what ppl think vs. of what I think on things that aren’t even a little bit detrimental to anyone’s lives or society at large lol. So.. believe nothing! Believe the craziest shit ever! Do whatever, just be safe n dont make too much enemies n dont snoop around people’s privacy for the sake of whatever it is. Then it’s totally not cool.

ANON i am KISSING you on the mouth (or hugging you if you prefer that or whatever else). i think about desi grace siblings ALL the time and the part where you said about jason trying to be disciplined, i high key agree w that point because yes!!! i think him being such a rule follower and feeling pressured under those rules is smth that is soooo personal as an indian person too!! not to mention hes always been held up as a leader and when his role as a leader is challenged (like how rick intended for the percy vs jason rivalry, seeing as how percy is considered the Opposing Leader on the argo ii), or when he thinks he's failed as a leader, he ends up beating himself up over it (although tbh the other characters act this way too so its not like specific for jason, but because leadership is such an important trait for his character i feel like that conflict is especially apparent).

ALSO i would love to see desi thalia fr because ummm desi punk girl??? id love to see a desi character like thalia be the opposite of what media tends to portray us as - shes all scary & intimidating, and definitely NOT a rule follower, and i think it'd be so cool to see her be that as a desi person. and her contrast to jason would speak volumes (it already does but it would especially if she n jason are desi!!) also omg desi beryl grace would be soo interesting because desi woman as an actress in hollywood??? intense. although she does end up dying so idk if that would be as relevant but id still kill to see that. and YES i love your point about their culture cuz ik as a desi american that its smth that really impacts me a lot, so to add in the greek/roman/desi/american thing, that would be sooo interesting and relatable to look at. plus id love to see them struggle w the whole 'am i even a proper indian???' conflict.

all the points u made were the exact reasons prowdmon got a low score 😭. re: the vocalization aspect, the crews and mcs were confused and thought it was random. some sharing, did the guy even dance? however, monika explained that dancing isn’t simply just moving. but it’s an expression. it’s an art form used to move the audience’s emotions. so they wanted to make use of the mc’s acting abilities (his job is an actor) and had him do that.

also, the crews and mcs felt like he wasn’t incorporated into the routine well where he was mostly in the background as opposed to being the main attention of the crew. which i was hm?? like the points u made, i thought he was the best one that was incorporated (along w hook). esp in the beginning with the other members, it felt so natural and smooth.

ngl i'm not surprised those were the criticisms, prowdmon definitely focus more on pushing the artistic boundaries of what they're doing rather than being content with just doing a well-danced routine. monika is absolutely right and smart to have utilized that mc's actual skills as an actor (which i had kind of suspected that was his day job), and she's also right to say that dance is an expression of emotion because it is. the old old adage in musical theatre is that when the emotion of character becomes too much for speaking that's when you sing, and when the emotion for singing becomes too much - that's when you dance. that's why in old hollywood and midcentury musicals there are dance breaks that are these big bombastic and separate numbers from the songs. hell, the dream ballet from singing in the rain is a perfect example of this, which just popped out of my queue in possibly the most well timed coincidence ever. or even why the 'dream ballet' is a function in musical theatre at all (it's characteristic of agnes de mille's choreography; i think it originated in oklahoma, but it also appears in brigadoon). or something like shall we dance from the king and i, where the dance is both as a structural function of the story and plot point. dance + movement are the strongest methods of expressing emotion because the emotion has to be strong in order for you to get to the point where it ceases to be enough to be expressed verbally or with facial expressions. monika's recognition of that but also the verbalization and defense of that logic is proof that she's a consummate artist and it's also extremely sexy of her.

Paul H is awful. He hosted a baking show in the US years ago and was so mean to all the contestants, especially this one southern woman. He made fun of her accent and food because American, esp southern, food uses more sugar and fats. He was relentless all season and she finally broke down crying. He apologized and tried to play it like he'd just been teasing but but 👀👀+ he complained that nothing tasted right, or like they do in GB (which? did he srsly expect a home chefs to make food the same as people an ocean away??).
