so rei wasn’t an original clan member like quincy or kuya. in fact he explicitly says he didn’t sign a contract but i think we all just forgot? about that?? i know i sure as hell did.

perhaps the person who originally signed huey’s contract was his mother. this would have made sense, considering she was the queen at the time, and she probably entered the contract to protect her kingdom. but she died during childbirth, so rei had to take over for her as the contract honour-er.

rei, ultimately running away from the kingdom, changing his name and starting a new life in a different territory, was very much not honouring his mother’s contract. you could argue he was even going against it in some cases, like when he was working with those scientists that turned out to be extremely fucked up people. thus, his gemstone starting acting up.

i can imagine this only added to his chronic pain, on top of his curse. his hearing probably wasn’t all that great either, if we remember what yakumo said early on about how the part of their body the gem is attached to will start to fail if they refuse to honour their contract. if rei wasn’t already used to constantly being in pain, i’m sure he would have gone back to the kingdom and continued honouring his mother’s contract.

because that’s kind of the point of signing the contract. you get a gemstone in your body that represents huey’s power in exchange for occasionally fixing the altars and doing whatever you/your ancestor said you were going to do, the reason you/your ancestor wanted this power in the first place. if you don’t, and you don’t have someone around to regulate your essence, you’re kinda shit outta luck.

honestly id LOve to learn more from su about just the origin of gems. how this ancient civilization began, how the diamonds manifested – was it white diamond who was "born" first? how did she exist in her first few years, and then figure out she could create gems?

I'm incredibly fascinated by the possibilities, especially since in the first few seasons of su we see a bunch of temple ruins of all kinds so like.

did the gems have an actual religion(s)? was it something that existed and then was eradicated as white diamond/the diamonds came into power, or did the diamonds bring about those beliefs as well???????

and the ancient spacecraft tech(?!!!?;!!! ) (from that episode with centipeetle/nephrite) that is still more advanced than modern human technology??

i want to know just how many years of gem "evolution" we're talkin about. hell i dont even need numbers i just rly wanna know how things looked like in the very beginning..... would white diamond/the diamonds even still remember said times...

the most touching and the most influential aspect of elena's writing is that she takes these people who exist as representatives of the universe, of something intergal to human nature, their lives not in any way original, their destinies shared with thousands and she makes sure, almost instinctively, that we as readers remember them by their specific names. how many people have taken their own life for the same reasons franco mari did? how many people suffered alfonso's faith in exchange for one second of owning their identities? how many girls didn't get to go to school the way lila did? but that doesn't concern elena, does it... those numbers... she thinks of lila and she sees lila and these people who have done nothing but repeat the past exist in this space, exactly as elena remembers them, exist and belong entirely to themselves... these people are gifted originality and importance simply because this woman remembers them... and that means something!!!!!!!!!!

Will the heroes/protags ever lay eyes on the state of the black pools? Will they have a chance to connect the dots?

Are the pools of Grimm drying up because this world is millions of years old?

It has been millions of years since the god of darkness departed, so the Grimm pools were cut off from their originator and all things succumb to entropy. Lakes dry up. Time erodes all.

Or is it because Salem absorbed the majority of the Grimm essence when she jumped in, and the pools of Grimm never fully recovered that volume?

okay part of the early blm quests for kiet are about sealing the void gate, but also about figuring out how to make these spells and his aether…work. with the thaumaturges the spells would end up spiraling into unsafe practices. fire spells overheating and draining her—ice spells leaving her muscles pulled taut and painful. but the gem of shatotto allows the high fluxes of aether to steady by means of a catalyst and focus. so kiet’s spells are highly destructive still, but it doesn’t come at the cost of their body

Reynold, the ADHD human that he is, has a very hard time focusing on much of anything and the only way he can be considered "accomplished" in his former line of work (CIA) is because he knew. He knew he had to do the task as fast as possible before he forgot what he was doing.

Now he lives in another world and is basically the trophy husband to the demon lord and Reynold is like "this is amazing I'm adopting the whole entire demon army as our children". And the demon lord is like "you want to adopt my demon army" and Reynold is like "starting with your advisors, yes. those are our daughters now. I love them. I would literally kill for them."

And Sascha, the demon lord determined to NOT ACTUALLY FIGHT PEOPLE, is like please don't kill anyone. And his job is now "take care of the entire demon race and also act as impulse control to one human". Luckily his twin advisors love Reynold too and agree to help keep him in line in the world.

And since idk how much I posted on main and not my OC blog for the advisors, Melo (left) is mute and Lody (right) does the talking. They are able to share what they see with each other because of the pink/yellow eyes acting as like a gateway of sorts. So they're rarely assigned to survey the same area since if they're apart they can see twice as much and report on more in order to aid Sascha. (But at the castle they both like to stick together and trail either Sascha or Reynold)
