🎃WIP🎃
I'm so close to done THANK THE GODS 🙌🙌 This is an Eva foam build of Blair's hat, from soul eater; I used an amazing pattern from Tiffany Gordon! This is my first time working with Eva foam and I honestly thought it would be a disaster, but now I can't wait to work with more foam!! I'm almost done with the fit as well, but I have so many dumb tedious things I have to do in order to finish🥲
Pending work:
Sand
Fill
Prime
Paint

I'm undecided yet but I think my next cosplay will be Asmodeus from Obey Me. Probably his demon form but first I've got some other projects to finish!

hunting monsters with the power of love and also this cool axe I found
WHEW another monster hunter cosplay for the books! Paolumu was pretty similar to lagombi, but was still a ton of fun. I'd actually been deliberating on what project to make next between something cookierun or an OC for weeks but then one night at 11pm i shot up in bed after the thought of making paolumu was beamed into my forebrain and i immediately started it in a feverous wild impulse.
About the costume, the main fabrics I used were 1" white holographic tinsel fur, 1/2" white and light pink beaver shag fur, and fuchsia snakeskin vinyl all from Big Z, then upholstery velvet and long pile minky fabric from joanns, and lastly white stretch pleather from MJ trends.
All the shaped bits like the hat and arms are EVA foam shells that were covered in the 1" fur. the collar is stuffed like a neck pillow. The EVA foam shells were patterned by hand, and the jacket is a modified McCalls M7848 jacket pattern. The kneepads are air dry clay that I pressed the snakeskin vinyl on to copy the scale pattern.
The switch axe is a pretty standard insulation foam prop with a pvc pipe spine. I painted it with acrylics and airbrushed a few extra shadows for dimension.

The results of today’s efforts. I hope to start laying down the decoupage material tomorrow after repointing my corners & doing a final surface plane. I think about these masks and how they’ll come together far more intensely than the finished thing looks like it would take.

TRANSCREATURE TIPS !
since it seems I'm the core representative for this identity, I'll make a small compilation of tips :}
01 : NESTING
build yourself a nest! there are lots of ways you can do this. for example, you can buy "human dog beds" and place it on top of / instead of your mattress. you can also get a bed bumper which walls off the "open" sides of your bed, and place pillows along the inside to make a nest! i originally did this as a comfort thing due to night terrors, so comfort is a good excuse.
you can also place canopies above your bed, like low hanging tapestries or nets. this can make a more enclosed feel.
collect things for your nest! it'll be the most important space in your room.
02 : FEATURES
for me, claws seem to give me euphoria a lot! grow out your nails (make sure to strengthen them with oils if you're anemic like me). once they're as long as you want, clip the sides diagonally to make a pointy nails! think stilleto nails.
you can also paint them the colour that seems to match your species most. I find matte colours to be more in accordance with mine, but it really varies!
try to match your makeup to the vibe. despite not being a transdemon, my species has slightly darker elements despite being docile. as such, my nails are black claws and my eyeshadow is quite dark. if you're a more peaceful species, more "doelike" makeup might help!
if you can, look into canine sharpening. it's a cosmetic procedure usually done with added material. do not do this on your own, it often goes VERY wrong.
03 : DIET
know your diet. are you a herbivore? or a carnivore? do you eat mostly red meats, or do you feast on ground nuts?
I understand that shifting your diet can be a little difficult due to familial or social restrictions. you don't need to be incredibly strict to your diet, just small things. I'm anemic, so I tend to eat red meats a lot which works quite well with my species! but I also lack fibre a lot, so I will be eating fruits.
try to match your diet. for instance, my species is primarily a carnivore, though obviously I need to consume fruit and veg. I mostly like fruit and veg like pomegranate and beetroot since it's appearance mimics meat!
04 : PATTERNS
this is almost entirely a euphoria thing, but it's still worth mentioning. know your calendar!
do you go through mating seasons? are you more heightened to responses during certain months? do you go into hibernation during the winter?
during mating periods, you might find having sex on your mind to be euphoric. a lot of animals also release scents during this time, so it might bring you euphoria to scent yourself with body mist. more on this later!
during hibernation (if you partake), you might want to stay in your nest for most of the day. during the winter I tend to lack much energy anyway, so cooping up in my nest for most of the day is quite relaxing.
05 : SIGNATURES
mark your territory! most animals have a scent, even if it's not very detectable to humans. have a signature scent, whether it's sandalwood or vanilla. spray it onto your items, spray it onto yourself, etc. during mating seasons you might want to change it to a different scent to symbolize the difference, though it's up to you!
you may also want to stylize your clothes. if you're a furry creature, fluffy sweaters might suit you! a scaly one might want to wear more leather clothes, an arctic creature might prefer white clothes.
a common thing I've seen - you can make pawprint shoes. using craft or eva foam, cut out the shape of a paw print and glue it onto the bottom of your shoes. these can also be customized to your species. mine resembles a very long dog paw print!

peets—or, hooves, as it were
Tumblr media Tumblr media
similar to the head and paws, the feet start with an upholstery foam base. they’re built up on a piece of floor mat eva foam, with the textured side down to be some semblance of grip. i glued down a pair of comfortable, slim shoes to this mat, and carve the shapes for the feet out around that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this gets covered in duct tape, and then i take a cast of my leg and connect the two with duct tape to make the rest of the pattern
Tumblr media
after this, i cut and sewed the fabrics according to the duct tape pattern, and decided to add foam around the calf to make the edge less jarring
Tumblr media
here i add lining and a velcro closure up the back, stitching the lining into the shoe itself, stuffing it lightly around the shoe for structure, and then into the edges of the fur around the velcro closure.
a try on for fit, and a silly shuffle!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
after that i add a cuff along the top to hide raw edges and airbrush to match the rest of the piggy bits and they’re done!

Creating my Skitarii Cosplay! ⚙️💀
I tend to hyperfixate on a lot of my ideas, and if it involves physically creating something, it's so satisfying to bring an idea to life.
So it was with my Adeptus Mechanicus cosplay! The idea possessed mind and I somehow managed to make it a reality in about 2 months just in time for a con lol
I don't have too many progress pics because I was in a bit of a time crunch and worked on it at odd hours, but I still wanted to share the process because this project is very dear to me - this was the first cosplay I ever built from the ground up.
So, the initial sketches!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I remember staying up super late sketching and ironing out the designs. And then going on a spree buying all the materials and pieces. The robes and mask I worked on and finished first!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Before this I had never worked with eva foam but I already committed to using it for the armor. I made the pattern first with tracing paper (thank the Omnissiah that the shapes were relatively simple!) and copied them to foam. The pauldrons and hand armor were finished first, and after seeing how well they came out, I was feeling pretty confident about how things were proceeding!
Tumblr media
Then it was the chest armor and backpack 😬 the most involving for sure. Lots of paint and glue, lots of shaping, lots of trial and error in reinforcing and securing things in the right place...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was honestly surprised how well it came together as a first time experience working with eva! The backpack was HEAVY (I used a PVC pipe for the top part and real plumbing lines), but once I got it on it was OK 😅
Handwriting the purity seals was a lot of fun too, kinda want to make more just to do it. And the very last touch was stenciling the Ad Mech insignia on the robes literally the night before the con.
The final result? Something I'm immensely proud of ☺️
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shame on me for not test running it during the process before wearing the entire thing for the first time. Some things needed to be fixed and readjusted during and after the first wear but overall it held up in two different events!
I'll post some more finalized photos soon~ now that I know what I can do, I already have another cosplay in the works 👀 stay tuned for that! (Psst you can find them here now!)
Hope you liked it! And if you have any tips or suggestions for working on future projects I'd love to hear them!

Your Zaundads cosplay is amazing!!! Thanks so much for sharing. Do have any tips/recs/process photos for the cosplays? I'm thinking of cosplaying young Silco myself but I've had trouble figuring out where to start since the whole thing has to be custom.
Thanks so much!! I'll try to give a little overview, focusing on Silco.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For us, the first step was to identify the outift parts:
- red shirt (misbuttoned)
- vest with button/rivet line
- jacket with shoulder pauldrons
- pants + wide waistband
- shoes with bandages
- accessories like bracelets and further bandages
Some thoughts that helped get an idea of the outfits were:
- Silco's (and also part of Vander's) outfit looks patched together, like it was either a sense of fashion or need (or both) for young zaunites to sew together scraps of clothes to make one new, individual, functioning item from them
- Asymmetry is a definite part of arcane's fashion so it's found in like any piece of clothing as well. Also, circles aren't perfectly round in arcane so try to avoid clean round objects (rather smash them with a hammer or so to disfigure them)
- The clothes do not necessarily have to make sense. Some buttons, buckles and such are just there without being functional and that's fine
To us, the heart of the outfit is the jacket with its shoulder pauldrons. We used an old leather jacket as the base and added bits of various other leftover leather pieces for a black-brown mixed look. The shoulder pauldrons were the hardest part, but making paper patterns for the pieces helped figure out how they worked best with the jacket, and we glued leather on eva foam to get the stable shape right.
We don't really have more WIP pictures but we're planning to share a more detailed look at the finished cosplays at some point in the next days/weeks. If you have any questions on specific details, just let us know and we'll try to help if possible.
Cheers!

I was really pleased with the end result of my Orym of the Air Ashari build.
I know it’s practically a meme for artists to say “this was my first time doing this,” but for real this was my first time working with EVA foam, my first time patterning, and my first leather-working project.
I really challenged myself and I learned a LOT, and I’m already concocting plans to level him up! Also leather-working is awesome and I have another new hobby now
