For the first art I post back from my semi-silence in the art front, it just so happens to be for Valentine's Day.

I return to my DW roots for this year with a little extras comic I've been meaning to do for a while now. Evelyn gifting Winnie a fake plant.

This would be a little after Demon Watch ends, college time and before Winnie succeeds in having full sleeve tattoos.

I actually only gave myself 2 days for this, and both those days I had to go to work. So while I normally have DW stuff all in color, I decided that would probably be too ambitious for my time.

You can also expect a Shadowheart and Eva thing a day or two late, as that is what I was originally going to have for today. I decided to struggle instead...

Fantober 2023 Day 21 - Story

They found a spring, glistening as it ran over the stones. The brother was about to drink from it, but his sister heard how its rushing sound said, "Whoever drinks from me will become a tiger. Whoever drinks from me will become a tiger."

Then the sister cried out, "Please, brother, do not drink, or you will become a wild animal and tear me to pieces."

The brother did not drink, although he was very thirsty, but said, "I will wait for the next spring."

When they came to the third spring the sister heard how its rushing sound said, "Whoever drinks from me will become a deer. Whoever drinks from me will become a deer."

The sister said, "Oh, brother, do not drink, or you will become a deer and run away from me."

But the brother had already knelt down by the spring, leaned over, and drunk from the water. As soon as the first drops touched his lips he lay there in the form of a young deer.

Little Brother and Little Sister; Brothers Grimm

Grimm's Fairytale AU with the Wittebanes as the siblings from "Little Brother and Little Sister". I already did a picture once, where the two of them meet Evelyn as a huntress, instead of the king from the story. I thought it would make a nice parallel with the spring either turning you into a deer or a wild animal that would kill it's family...

~SYNOPSIS~

The 1970s, twenty years after the rebuilding of Toreguard, semi-retired Sergeant Elowyn O'Toreguarde is called in for a new case - the murder of her childhood best friend, Evelyn Strucker. When the King of estranged Iceland turns up for an unexpected visit, the Triumvirate Council force O'Toreguarde to play tour guide, passing the murder case to her subordinates. But it doesn't completely leave her hands. A strange set of circumstances reveals an ethereal side to the City, filled with secrets. Secrets which may hold the key to Evelyn's murder.

Written for NaNoWriMo 2017. Technically a Modern, Mundane-ish AU of a TTRPG set in the Fighting Fantasy World of Titan. Formerly known as "FF/T Modern-Ish AU".

The plot is... not something I would normally write, and for a long while I hated it. Then I thought it was a too cringy, and tried to 'fix' it, only to give up. Now, on a recent re-read, I think this is the shape this story has always had to have. So I've decided to suck it up and get it ready for posting, so at least it's out there and not loitering on my hard drive.

Title is from a traditional song, Besse Bunting, arranged by Mediæval Bæbes.

~EXCERPT~

She cuts through a narrow alley of dark soot-stained brick, trots down a short set of steps and onto the flagged towpath next to the canal. There is an improvised bridge up ahead that will allow her to pass over the canal closer to where the station lies. She has run this route a hundred times, she knows every nook and cranny along this path, so when she reaches where the bridge should be, and finds it missing, she is perturbed, but not worried. Maybe someone finally reported the ramshackle thing, made of old boards and stolen scaffolding.

It was quick work though, she thinks as she back-tracks to where a tree clings to the bank. The bridge was still there when she came home in the early evening. She shakes the thought aside as she unhooks a rope swing from the tree. It's been a while since she had to use it, but she's in a hurry and has no time for the uncertainty that tries to drape over her like a cloak. With a running start, she jumps. It is only as she enters the apex of the swing that she realises something is wrong. The weight of the rope is too heavy, it shifts alarmingly as she reaches the apex of the swing. Then it has snapped, and she is falling, and she cannot remove her hands from the tacky surface of the rope, and the water is closing in over her head, and she thinks she sees the blaze of red eyes on the bank as she sinks through the darkness.

For those wondering about why Luz isn't the princess... she is.

In my au she and vee were switched at birth accidentally and Luz went with the wrong family who happened to be only visiting Spain and they were returning to France after the wife went into labor. I mean after recovering from giving birth of course. They were nice people, had good standing with the royal family, but unfortunately passed away. The mother passed from unknown illness and the father in a fight to stop a criminal outside of the kingdom.

Caleb and Katherine both decided that Luz would live in the castle with them. They wouldn't want a 10 year old to be out in the world on their own.

So it was decided that Luz would be raised alongside Hunter and they both trained in swordsmanship, archery and combat. Eventually, Luz would not only become the youngest captain of the guard at 18, but also the prince's most trusted companion ( only 2nd to Flapjack).

Though to Hunter, Luz was basically his annoying little sister.

When the plot kicks off the hexsquad is aged up to 18, Hunter is 19 and Gus is 16.

It's a mix of all my characters from various stories and a bonus of 2 Tav doodles because BG3 still lives rent-free in my brain.

And to shine through on its own paper, a Malfius doodle! I really like a white (and red) figure against a solid black background for my Devils & Details stuff. Fits the mood for the stories. Kills sharpies, though.

💗 Five Comfort Characters, Five Tags 💗

I honestly don't think I have any "comfort characters" as such unless we're talking about my own OCs, but I'm going to assume that no one wants to hear about those. So I'm going to pick characters that I like or find very fascinating instead. This is by no means an exhaustive list because they're basically just the ones that popped into my mind while writing this, but yeah. Also, I'll be splitting it into female and male characters because I can.

Female characters:

Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter. I just find her so incredibly lovable. And her whole aura and outlook on life just makes me so relieved.

Brienne of Tarth from Game of Thrones. Never mind that I never finished it. I still love her to bits (I also have a crush on Gwendoline Christie but that's neither here nor there…)

Evelyn Carnahan/O'Connell from The Mummy. The movie is a childhood staple and I always looked up to how much braver and more capable she became as the story progressed.

Edith Cushing/Sharpe from Crimson Peak. This might be partly because I love the movie so much, but I just like how HUMAN she is. There's something relatable about her even if we have so very little in common and I find that fascinating.

Joan Watson from Elementary. I just really like her. She's smart, she's funny, she's resourceful, she's badass, she's human. In the best way possible.

Male characters:

Seifer Almasy from Final Fantasy VIII. I mean, he's an asshole and all, but he's been a favourite character of mine for so long that it's probably hardwired into my DNA at this point.

Carlos "Cougar" Alvarez from The Losers. Because he's just calm and sensible and I can probably write him in my sleep. That's how comfortable I am with him.

Tyrannus Basilton "Baz" Grimm-Pitch the Third from the Simon Snow series. I just finished reading this series and there's just something about Baz that I find very likeable and relatable. I'm very partial to Baz.

Arthit "Oon" Rojnapat from SOTUS. Look. When Arthit cry, I cry. It's as simple as that. And I'm always a sucker for "seems like an asshole but is secretly a big softie."

Dean Winchester from Supernatural. Okay, so this one is partly just nostalgia, I will admit, because Supernatural played a big part in my life at the time I was watching it. And Dean was just always the character I gravitated towards.

Bonus — My UNcomfort Character:

Kang Yo Han from The Devil Judge. I love the fucker to death but it also makes me incredibly uncomfortable to know how similarly we seem to think and work as human beings. It's like watching a "Worst Case Scenario" of yourself x'D

Wittecouple Week Day 1/2 - Beginning/Magic

An AU for the Brothers Grimm fairytale “Little Brother and Little Sister” . In this one Evelyn is a huntress and stumbles upon an imporverished Caleb in the woods...and he claims the deer she just tried to shoot is his little brother.

Since Philip is a deer in this one he won’t mess up things for the two of them (also he’s like nine). He’ll probably keep on snacking leaves  after they managed to break the spell

I'm too lazy to type the rest rn... there are more of 20 something pages, each with 30 titles per page. Yes. I'm sure I can finish all by the end of this year. But I'm not gonna type it all here.

TBH I've been reading 4 books per day since I was at least 13. I beat my own record by reading 7 books (Narnia Chronicles) in one day once. I was bored. Anyways I never tried it again or at least I was never interested in doing it so. But yes. I can read them all by the end of the year. I'll bring to you the whole list (I'll take pics but let me tell you my handwriting is messy so don't expect too much of it.)
