SAMHAIN FESTIVAL, SULLY’S TAVERN ─── Large beer mug in hand full of mead, Matt offered it with a grin. “Have you tried it yet?” The live music was going strong, people were dancing and celebrating the Celtic New Year with mead and feasts of food. It was loud inside, there was a lot going on outside as well in the back lot with the party tents up. Matt leaned in a bit to be heard over the noise, “it comes ‘round once a year. Enjoy.” The sweetish drink was from an ancient Celtic recipe and something Matt had ordered in masses for the festivities. Since his grandfather had opened the tavern long before Matt had been born the Samhain Festival had been an annual thing, and since he had taken over he’d tried his best to keep the traditions alive. Especially since they’d always been so popular. “Want to join me outside for some fresh air for a bit?”

HAUNTED HAYRIDE, HALLOWEEN ─── It wasn’t so much that Nima was easily scared, it was more to do with the fact that she had a Native American spirit. Ghosts were a real thing, not something to be messed with and make a mockery of. Halloween was fun, the costumes and pumpkin carving and the dance parties were a good time. Anything that involved a haunting? Yeah, that creeped her out a little. If Finn wasn’t so convincing she wouldn’t be about to do this haunted tour with him. Actors had a tendency to jump out at you on these sorts of things and Nima was sure her reaction might be to throw a punch. She’d grown up homeless, you had to react in the blink of an eye. “Are you sure about this?” Soft, somewhat pleading eyes looked all the way up at Finn. “I can protect you should something scary happen,” she teased lightly, deflecting, “I just don’t want you to end up with nightmares.”

HAUNTED CORN MAZE, HALLOWEEN ─── “Who is Wanda?” Fuck. [ you see, this is what you get when you decide to do something stupid; like look up a Relationship Advice forum in front of your mom ]. “wait, is this that girl you’ve been working with???” he could’ve said no and he wouldn’t be lying, but call him a momma’s boy all you like, he just didn’t like lying to her. “no, it’s--” this was embarrassing.. mortifying.. one of those events that kept your eyes from closing at 2 am ten years from now, kind of things, “she’s-- i needed some advice about her and Wanda’s--” “a therapist?” that would’ve probably been better. “an advice columnist.” he should’ve gone to Reddit. his mother never would’ve had a chance at deciphering her way through all of those acronyms. “oh, honey.. you know you could’ve come to me for advice, right?” oh he knew. he just didn’t want to have that kind of conversation with her. the one that started with, ‘i got really drunk, kissed my boss, and now i can’t stop thinking about her it.’ boundaries. “i just think this is one of those things we need to draw a line, mom.” which speaking of. it was time to break apart. he’d find her and his dad’s brother’s little rugrats again later. there was somewhere else he needed to be. 

it had been a bit risky on his end to text her to meet him here tonight. they hadn’t talked since the incident. the one, where he’d got real drunk, read her some story he’d been working on, and ended up kissing her because she had said something insane, like she thought it was really good or whatever... and yet, he felt if he didn’t do that soon there was a real good chance he might actually lose her over this whole thing. he didn’t want that. he might’ve done something stupid. like, locking lips with a girl so far out of his league, it was miracle she hadn’t pushed him into another dimension or something when he’d done it.. but, fuck.. please at least let it be one of those easy to forgive kind of mistakes. y’know, the ones children seem to make all the time and continue to get away with.. just give him one of those. 

he’d organised to meet her out the front of the maze. “i’ll have you know.. i’m a boss at hedge mazes.” and sure this one was made out of corn but semantics, right? sliding up beside her, the blonde did his best to pretend nothing had changed, absolutely nothing! and that he hadn’t glanced down at her lips or anything the moment he’d first slipped in beside her ‘cause that would’ve been weird. “want some cotton candy?” had it turned his lips blue? and was that going to be his excuse if she took a bite and she caught him looking at her mouth again? maybe.

Are there any prizes for making anything for this event?

Just the satisfaction that you made something cool.

Is it just SamBucky?

Yes please, just SamBucky. There can be side ships, but the main ship should be SamBucky.

How long will this event run?

It will run from October 1st and run until November 7th.

What are the guidelines for the bingo?

I will be borrowing some of this from the MYSU Valentine’s Day Bingo 2022 Guidelines, since they were fantastic.

For Everyone:

1. Remember to tag @sambuckyhalloweenbingo in the post as well as #sbhalloween2024.

2. Please also tag the prompt you’re filling (for instance, if the square is “Costume”, use “#costume” as one of your tags when posting about it on Tumblr).

3. If you’re uploading to AO3, please:

a ) Say somewhere which prompt you’re filling.

Things to be mindful of when creating:

For Sam

Avoid framing Sam only as a caretaker or emotional support for Bucky. Be mindful of Sam acting angry or aggressive in an out-of-character way and falling into the angry/sassy Black man trope (check out the MCU source material to help with character traits).

Avoid decentering Sam as a main character and refrain from focusing entirely on Bucky.

In art: avoid whitewashing Sam’s skin and research drawing Black characters.

General disclaimer: Race affects every aspect of his life, including interacting with police/government and the white structures of the world when it comes to performing his duties as Cap and simply being a Black man that lives in the U.S.

For Bucky

Avoid phrasing “flesh/normal/human hand” to refer to the contrast between his prosthetic arm and his right arm. The phrasing is ableist. You can simply refer to his prosthesis when relevant, otherwise use “right/left arm/hand”.

For more information, please check out this document suggested by @ninesdb on how to write Bucky as an amputee. @ninesdb is also open to questions if you have any queries not answered by the google doc.

Specific Tags:

Tanthamore Week May 2023 Info (updated)

What is Tanthamore Week?

Tanthamore Week 2023 is a week-long fanwork creation celebration for the pairing Jade Claymore/Kit Tanthalos from the TV show Willow (2022), running from May 22-28, 2023. The theme is “Season 2”!

How does it work?

You create fan content aligning with one of the prompts and post it during the week! You can use the tags and AO3 collection to organise, and we will reblog/post some of the creations.

There are seven prompts, one for each day – they are general and then we have provided specific ideas for each of them. You don’t have to use any of the specific ones.

You don’t have to create something for every day! You don’t have to adhere strictly to the prompts! This is meant to be as inclusive and accessible as possible. There are no word minimums or maximums, no requirements for art size or approach, etc. You can write a long fic that hits each of the prompts, or a drabble for only one prompt – anything is welcome.

All types of fan content are welcome: art, fic, vids, fan mixes, rec lists, etc. If it’s transformative, it’s welcome!

You can add your work to the collection on AO3 here if you would like (use the "Post to Collection" button).

All content should be in some way related to Tanthamore, and to the overall theme of “Season 2”, but other than that, feel free to interpret the prompts and guidelines however you like. We are not going to police your work!

This is my favorite time of the year! As far as I’m concerned, Halloween runs from September 1 - November 15, if not longer! I currently have a big fic to finish up that should be done soon, but nothing else slated fic wise. After that, it’s full steam ahead for anything and everything related to Autumn and Halloween. I generally put aside other non-fic writing projects during this time to focus on Halloween content.

For the week of Halloween, October 25 - October 31, I intend to post a big daily oneshot. My stories generally range in size from 5k to 25k, and some are even more! Look for a mix of horror, humor, romance, and adventure! Everything will contain adult themes and mature content. There may be other writing throughout this time too. The quantity of stories I post depends on the length of them. In the past, I have posted a lot of shorter things, but I’ve gotten more into writing longer stories now. The last few years, I have averaged over 100k words for Halloween and Autumn content!

Please send me requests, ideas, thoughts, HCs, anything you like! I’ll pick my favorites or, very likely, a combination of a few different ideas, and I’ll write a oneshot that includes everything I can fit in. Feel free to send in multiple ideas or requests! The more ideas to choose from, the better! All AU concepts, time periods, etc are welcome. Anything is fair game. This is generally the only time of year I open requests anymore, so get them in if you ever want to. Requests will be open from now until Halloween. However, because I tend to write longer stories, the sooner an idea comes it, the more likely I am to use it.

FALL HARVEST CARNIVAL, STANLEY PARK ─── Halloween had always been considered a fun time of year for Nima. At least since she’d turned 19 because in the years before celebrating such a holiday was out of reach financially. Plus, growing up on the streets meant no door for people to come to. Walking around the carnival now she had a smile on her face and was looking up at the dimming sky and the sparkling lights of the festivities going on around her. Nima wasn’t dressed up, she was saving her costume for the actual day, but was definitely there for some fall themed fun. Noticing a familiar blonde, one that made her stomach twist a little, Nima stepped closer. “You look like you’re having fun,” she began, “have you gone through the maze yet?”

Sci-Fi Horror Films for the Spooky Season

The Blob (1958)

Steve and Jane are two teenagers who encounter a creature from space that begins attacking and eating people from their town. Best scene: In the doctor's office where he's looking in a mirror and sees something moving under a sheet. Still freaks me out to this day. 100% recommend!

The Thing (1982)

It's a classic for a reason. A group of men are trapped in an Antarctic research base with a shape-shifting alien. The practical effects and atmospheric paranoia make this one of my favorite movies. Best scene: The blood testing scene.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)

What the title says. There's a 50s version of this film which is good too, but the 70s one leans farther into the horror aspects of its premise. Donald Sutherland, Jeff Goldblum, Leonard Nimoy, what more could you ask for? Definitely one that'll be keeping you up at night. Best scene: The mud bath house.

Alien (1979)

Just watch it, seriously. I don't need to explain this one, just trust me. Starts out slow, but is worth it. A must-see. End then once you finish it watch Aliens (1986). Best scene: Entire third act.

Nope (2022)

A brother and sister investigate the strange happening on their horse farm. This movie blew me away and made me obsessed with Jordan Peele. Best scene: Too many to list. Watch it.

Annihilation (2018)

A group of women enter a zone that has been cut off from the world, and inside the zone DNA does some weird things. The tension is crazy high in this movie and it really makes you think while you watch, trying to understand and put pieces together. Best scene: The one in the gif, I mean come on.

The Fly (1986)

Body horror to the max when a scientist tests out his teleportation device and things go horribly awry. Not for those with a weak stomach, this film is straight up disgusting, but in the best way. Best scene: can't say without big spoilers.

The Blob (1988)

That's right, another blob movie on here! You'll never guess the plot. Practical effects, creative deaths, and a distinct 80s feel that you just can't replicate. Best scene: at the hospital.

Event Horizon (1997)

A space crew goes to investigate when a long-missing ship, the Event Horizon, shows back up after being missing for seven years. This movie did not do well upon its initial release, but found a cult following later and I'm a part of that cult, babyyy. Join us! Best scene: not really a scene, but any part where we see the recordings from the ship or they're mention because it freaks me out.

Attack the Block (2011)

Neighbors must team up when killer aliens start to invade their building. This is just a really fun movie with immaculate vibes. John Boyega stars in this and he does such a great job as an unlikely hero. Best scene: When Moses makes a run for it.

The Faculty (1998)

A school's staff are taken over by aliens intent on turning everyone in the school into one of them; a group of students fight back. This is one of my favorite comfort movies because the characters are great and the premise is tried but true. If you're having a movie night with friends or want to cuddle up with something spooky, this is your movie. Best scene: can't pick one tbh, it's all so good.

Re-Animator (1985)

Imagine Victor Frankenstein but even shittier at his job? You'll have Herbert West. Goofy B-horror from the 80s is sometimes the height of the genre. Jeffrey Combs is in this movie which is reason enough on its own to watch. Best scene: The first reanimation scene in the morgue.

hi! I hope this is ok to ask and please of course feel free to not answer if it's too personal. I look up to your perpetual halloween lifestyle, and i'm also immunocompromised now because of covid. I was wondering if you had any tips or plans for how to celebrate spooky season safely at home, since.. well... it just doesn't seem like going out to a halloween show or something is worth dying, you know? :\ I thought if anyone would know how to halloween party it up at home it would be you.

First off, ALL THE HUGS <33333333333333333333333333

The Plaguetimes have certainly thrown a wrench in the spoopy season for us, that's for sure.

2020 was obviously the most difficult, but my brother and I celebrated by resurrecting an old favorite October activity: Every Saturday is Halloween! We dressed up in themed costumes every Saturday of the month, got together (safely), took pics, and then watched that week's film.

2021 we only dressed up on the day, but still kept the celebration here at home- made a big dinner so it felt like A Real Holiday, and then watched a movie.

2022 we ventured out on a day trip on the 30th, but kept it safe by visiting outdoor locations (we hit up Delavan, WI to take some pics with circus themed statues, we walked through a quiet park to get some autumnal vibes, we did our usual slow drive through a graveyard, and then ate dinner in the car outside a building that looks like a castle)

2023 is going to be more of the same- if it's not raining on the 31st, we're going to get our costumes on and go take some pics outside our local courthouse (they've got decorated pumpkins on the front lawn from a recent fall festival) and then we're gonna try to hit up an location about an hour away to take a few more outdoor shots. If there's too many folks around we'll stay in the car, but if there's little to no foot traffic then I'm gonna try to get my pic taken next to one of these fellas:

As for celebrations entirely at home, having a themed movie night really does make it feel like An Event- we dressed up as aliens for Spaced Invaders night, as Adam and Delia for Beetlejuice night, as Tangina and Kane for Poltergeist night, Fester and Pugsley for Addams Family night.

Even when I've celebrated solo (back when Joelie was younger and more out and about) I've done a themed night. Costume, snacks, some cheap decorations that all fit with the movie- it's simple but it really does bring out the Forever Halloween Kid in me 🎃🖤
