[DAY 5] masterlist ᡣ𐭩 !
Tumblr media
— " i dont like most people, but youre an exception " ; classmates to lovers (not really)
♡list : @yzerpoz , @imthisclosetokms , @rizzkisworld , @hyvelxve , @dogyunslover , @starryriize
A sigh leaves junghoons lips as he tosses his bag over his shoulder, his eyes rolling for the nth time at a students shenanigans. Everyone was just so.. annoying. No one could shut their mouths so the teacher would have to stop and scold the class, couples making out in the back corner like no one could see them, the random fights that would break out for the stupidest reasons. Junghoon was annoyed, he just wanted to lay in his bed and close his eyes to forget about the awful day. Along with the upcoming ones.
Everything was annoying, everything and everyone but you. He hated to admit it, wanting to shut everyone out but somehow you always slipped through the cracks. Sure you were loud, but you knew how to control it, you made him smile effortlessly, you made him feel at ease, relaxed, able to tell you anything with little to no judgements. He was grateful, but terrible at showing it, wondering why you still hung out with him even though there was most definitely someone waay better than him.
Like right now. With quick steps you catch up to him, your hand resting on the bag strap which was on his shoulder, following him out of the building and to the lot of buses that parked outside the school. If you didnt ride the bus with junghoon, he would have already lost it. If the students were bad in school, on the bus was worse; and he wasnt sure why.
But that didnt matter, he had you. Leading you to the front of the bus and sitting on the inside of the seat, you follow suit, sitting next to him before pulling out a snack you saved earlier from lunch. "Got theses for you." You say, waving the plastic bag around of his favorite chips that he couldnt stop eating. A small smile lifts at his lips since you thought of him, muttering a "thank you" before opening it, offering you one.
Bus rides were usually like this. Students in the back roaring to their partner that was right beside them, while you sat quietly at the front. Sometimes you would surprise him with things, other times you showed him funny videos you saved from the previous night. Did i mention how thankful junghoon was for your presence? Whenever you showed him those funny videos, he would stop looking at the screen and gaze at you, happy that theres a smile on your face, happy that you're happy.
"You know.." he breaks the calm silence, turning over to make sure you could hear him well. "I don't like most people, but you're an exception." You laugh at his words. "I'm serious!! I would have strangled these kids if it wasn't for you."
"Hoon!" You slap his arm playfully, a hand covering your mouth as you fake a gasp. "If you strangle these kids.. I'll hide the bodies." It was junghoons turn to chuckle, a wide smile plastered on his face for returning his joke. "Thank you, seriously. Like I'm so serious."
"Aww is junghoon showing emotions?" You joke, resting your head on the crook of his neck. "You're welcome, im glad i have you too." Junghoon smiles at your words, resting his head on top of yours. Hes forever grateful for having you as a bestfriend.

It’s Nice to Have a Friend: Walk Me Home (Part One)
Tumblr media
Author’s Note: Totally unintentionally posted the unedited version with my OC’s name in this....embarrassing! Anyways, I have loved Peter 3 since his 2012 film and I’m happy he’s finally getting hype. This is my first time writing for him in forever however, and I have been dying to write something like this forever. Obviously based on Taylor Swift’s song It’s Nice to Have a Friend. Another thing to mention is Andrew has said previously his Peter is Jewish, so that’s why I wrote the line about the Hanukkah present. As always I love feedback.
THIS IS NOT PROOF READ. WE DIE LIKE MEN
Pairings: TASM! Peter Parker x Fem! Reader
Content Warning: Fluffy, school mates to eventual lovers, asshole(ism) from Flash, mentions of reader’s father going to prison, awful small talk, and mention of Peter’s weight. That’s all I can think of but I could have missed anything!
_____________
Middle School, 8th grade. December 6th
Snow covered the courtyard at Midtown Middle, her boots crunched in the snow as she made her way past the loading zones for buses. Her first day did not go as bad as she had feared, for the most part everyone was nice and welcoming…except for-
“Hey, watch it!” (Y/N) yelled, her body moving forward nearly tumbling forward as a boy knocked into her. The boy whipped around, an antagonizing look on his face immediately she clocked him as the annoying basketball player from her second period. He opens his mouth to speak, taking in the girl before him he reaches out and snactched the gloves from her hands.
“Thanks for these, left mine at home.”
“Flash!” Sounded a voice coming up next to her, the boy was smaller than flash but what he lacked in weight and muscle for a middle schooler he made up for in height standing just a few inches over the bully. But that didn’t seem to phase Flash, with one good shove her defender was on the ground.
“Nice try Parker, you know losers can’t stand up for other losers!” Flash yelled with a hyena-like laugh as he dashed after his friends.
(Y/N) turned to the boy laying in the snow, a look of embarrassment on his face. She took both his hands pulling him up helping dust him off, the snow contrasting against his dark hair. He looked vaguely familiar but she couldn’t place it.
“It’s Peter right?”
The boy's head shot in her direction, nodding eagerly- if she didn’t know better she’d have assumed he was shocked she remembered him.
“Y-yeah that's me..you’re (Y/N)! We have english, algebra one, and physical science together."
She bent down with a small on her face grabbing Peter’s glasses off the ground, frowning at the damage done to them.
“Thanks for your sacrifice..” She laughs sadly showing him the glasses. “Hey it’s alright my aunt May has perfected the craft of repairing these.” He laughs, shoving them in his bag. (Y/N) smiled watching him, she looked over her shoulder at the bus having already left.
“I can walk you home if you want!” Peter was quick to offer, scratching the back of his neck. “I..we live in the same townhouse. Well..well not the same! I meant to say you just moved into the one next door to me.” Finally the young boy worked his way out of the stuttering mess he had become, his reddening face standing out in the snow.
So that’s why he had looked familiar when they met earlier in the day.
“Yes..yeah I would appreciate that.” She laughs pulling her coat around her, snvilling as the cold finally got to her. Peter took off walking first, his gloved hands shoved into his pockets. (Y/N) followed behind him rushing to walk in sync with him.
They walked in comfortable silence at the start, (Y/N) looked at the sidewalk at first. Watching  the chalk drawings done by neighborhood kids being recovered by the new snow falling to the ground. She turned her attention back to Peter thinking about what she could ask him, she had never been good at small talk, or making friends.
“Where’d you move from?”
“Las Vegas.” (Y/N) laughs, fixing the beanie on her head to cover her ears.
“Oh so this is like..culture shock for you.” Peter says looking at her, watching her shrug. “Not really, thanks to my dad’s job we moved all over. I’ve lived in New York before but far outside the city- I don’t remember it though, I was a baby.” (Y/N) laughs, about to tell him all the places
“So your dad's job brought you back here?” Peter asked cutting her off unintentionally, (Y/N) shook her head, swallowing the non existent lump in her throat.
“He went to prison actually, and so my mom wanted to move as far away from Vegas as possible.”
“Sorry I didn’t mean to open any sore wounds.” Peter replied quickly, his body heating in embarrassment.
“No, no it was a very public case. It’s okay, promise.” She laughs softly, her hands rubbing together trying to warm them. Peter caught this out of the corner of his eye, pulling his hands from his pocket he slid the warm wool gloves off his hands handing them to her.
“Oh Peter, no I can’t.” She laughs.
“What kind of friend would I be if I let you lose a finger from frostbite the first time we hangout?” He laughs sliding his gloves onto her hands as they walk. (Y/N) bursted into a laugh, wiggling her hands into the gloves feeling gradual relief from the cold.
“Not a very good one I guess.”
A friend, they were friends. That was nice to hear and she didn’t even have to try and impress him.
“Exactly.” Peter laughed, nudging her playfully with his shoulder. (Y/N) pushed back smiling. The two walked shoulder to shoulder the rest of the way home, talking about anything that came to mind.
“You are so wrong.”
“I am not, the sequel is way better than the original! It’s like the perfect sequel.”
“Sherk will forever be the best in the series. It's the original.” Peter laughed as they neared their homes. “Besides, you're not allowed to talk about a perfect sequel because you haven’t seen a single Star Wars movie.”
“Oh that fact about me really hurt you didn’t it?” She laughs
“It did. I’m gonna have to have you watch them all with me.”
(Y/N) nodded, having already agreed to the several day movie marathon. The familiar voice of her mom pulling her out of her conversation with Peter. “I just really hope she had a good first day.” Her mothers worry was evident in her voice, Peter put his arm out to stop her from walking up the steps of the house. If they stood still long enough the guardians would acknowledge them on their own.
“I’m sure she did perfectly fine. The way you talk about her I’m sure she made plenty of friends.” Another woman's voice answered, the woman passed off a hot cup of something to (Y/N)’s mother. “Besides, Peter has been really excited to meet her. I’m sure they’ll be the best of friends.” So that was the ‘Aunt May’ Peter had talked so fondly of.
“Ben Parker you be careful up there! You slip and fall and you'll ruin the whole holiday.” May fusses watching Ben as he hangs Christmas lights for the new neighbors.
“I told him I had it and he didn’t need to bother.” Bella, (Y/N)’s mother, responded as she sipped on her mug. “Oh you are fine sweetheart, he’s just stubborn. But between him and Peter I am going to have to be committed to the psych unit.” May laughs.
“Ouch, May!” Peter laughs, breaking the pair's silence.
“How long have you two been there? You two are gonna catch a cold.”
Peter snickers, ushering (Y/N) up the steps first, and then following her. “Long enough.” (Y/N) laughs, bundling herself up next to her mother on the bench who takes her under her arm. Peter reaches out for May’s cup of hot chocolate to take a sip.
“Peter Benjamin Parker, where on earth are your gloves?” “Oh I misplaced mine and he was kind enough to give me his.” (Y/N) says, sliding them off her hands handing them to him.
“Keep them, I have plenty. I got a pack of ten for the first night of Hanukkah.” He smiles. May and Bella traded a smile that held a certain knowing before looking back at their children.
The bitter cold of New York never really seemed to leave, the holiday season came and went. Christmas break lasted longer than planned, a huge snow storm blowing in after the New Year got school called off for a week after they were set to return. Which meant longer nights for (Y/N) and Peter to hang out.
“You’re really bad at this game.” Peter quipped as he threw the controller down with a laugh. (Y/N) looked at him faking offense, she rolled her eyes and sipped the soda that sat beside her on the floor. “I told you I can’t even skateboard in real life, let alone in a video game.”
“You can’t skateboard in real life because you do well to walk up a flight of stairs.”
“Yeah you’re one to talk! You ate shit going down the ramp yesterday.”
“I meant to do that.” He laughs getting close to her face with a laugh.
“What bloody your nose?”
She took the opportunity to admire his features, he had already changed so much in the month they had been hanging out. May had Peter trade his glasses for contacts being unable to fix the damage done the last time. His hair had grown a bit, and seemingly got darker and his cheek bones grew more prominent. She wondered if he had noticed the changes in her well. But one thing neither of them caught was the way they had begun to look at each other.
As the months continued they grew more oblivious. (Y/N) never saw the way Peter’s stare lingered too long, she never caught the lingering touches when they hugged goodbye for the night. She paid no mind to the way he'd collect hair off her face while studying for Midtown High entry tests. These were what she thought were friendly gestures, because they followed her own pattern of behavior to him. Her eyes admired him in everything he did. She would always be the one cheering him on at the skatepark, rushing to his side when he’d get hurt. They were each other's person.
It was summer now, and the heat wave was grueling. She almost missed the cold of the winter months, but during the winter she could never be doing this. Lying out in a tent with her best friend in her tiny backyard, looking up at the stars.
“Are we always gonna be best friends?” It was an innocent question, but it held their future in it.
“What?” Peter laughs looking over at her. “Of course we are always gonna be friends.”
“It’s just that high school is gonna be so different. We might have different class tracks, and what if we get pulled in different directions?”
“Never, and do you know how I know?” Peter asks rolling over to look at her. “Because Flash is still gonna be an asshole and he’s going to still ridicule us so much that we will be too embarrassed to find friends outside of one another.”
(Y/N) laughs, raising her eyebrows. He was right, as sad as it was, he was right. While it was true there was another truth too, deep down (Y/N) wanted to be more than his friend. Their eighth grade class already assumed they were dating for the most part. They walked everywhere together, they sat together at lunch, where partners on any project they could be. She wanted to actually be his girlfriend, but this was just a school girl crush and it would pass.
“It’s nice to have a friend like you Parker.” She smiles, laying her head on his shoulder looking back up at the stars. Peter’s lanky arm wrapped around her holding her close as he lost himself in his head.
Both laid there, wondering what will be of them in three years time.

Per the rules, there is no hugging. No high-fives. No visitors in the dorms. No congregating. Masks are required at all times, except when eating, sleeping, training, competing, or speaking to the press.
The village is designed to be a self-contained bubble. There are stores. Fast food. A nail salon. There are endless, perfectly timed little green buses that shuttle them from the doorstep of the dorms, to the venues, to their mandatory daily testing and back again. The process is seamless, closed, and safe, except when it is none of those things.
He laughs, for example, when he gets to his room and finds, laid out on his bed, a welcome pack that includes a box of 10 condoms. He laughs partly at the absurdity -- are we using the condoms or are not high-fiving? -- and partly because he still has some at home with the Pyeongchang 2018 logo. It occurs to him, a little too suddenly, that this is actually pretty sad.
The village has no enforced perimeter that he can see. (He is smart enough to know that this does not mean that one does not exist.) But the boldface type on the rules page is clear: Breaking the bubble means quarantine, a repeat of the twenty-steps-long testing protocol required for entry, and, in particularly concerning cases, deportation. Fear of going home too early, of missing an event or even just a few practices, is the true enforcer.
So they find a spot. It is outdoors, around the side of his looming, many-storied dorm building, on a depressing patch of sparse gravel that's in the shade for much of the day and therefore offers them a better-than-nothing shot at inconspicuousness. It at least offers them enough space to talk without a dozen people around. Away from Coach's roving, nervous eye. And technically, he reminds her again and again, they are not breaking any rules.
They stand three-feet apart, as recommended by the IOC, always in masks. Sometimes they sneak food out of the cafeteria. It is the most they will allow themselves ahead of the competition. Today it is bubble tea, which is auto-prepared by a machine to minimize contact. (Hers: taro milk tea with lychee jelly, 100% sweetness. His: black tea with boba, 25%.) They sip carefully under their masks, hopping from one foot to the other in the cold.
They arrange these meetings furtively on the cheap burner phones that almost everyone on the United States team is using as a security precaution, all of them weary of hackers and heeding the advice of their worried federations. It's unclear to him, frankly, what a bunch of predominantly teenage skaters and skiers could have on their phones that would be of strategic value to the Chinese government, but he's not in the mood to find out. Later, there will be fawning stories in business magazines about how he left his phone home in order to focus on the competition. Technically, he reasons, it's the truth.
They talk about the village (ugly, difficult to navigate), the dorm beds (surprisingly comfortable), the food (decent). They gossip about who tested positive, about the terrifying rumors swirling around the official quarantine facilities (inedible food, aggressive nurses, untreated symptoms, roaches). They complain about Coach, which is standard. They analyze the minutiae of their practices, roll their eyes over the Russians, dissect their formidable competition, complain that the team uniforms just aren't that comfortable.
They talk about everything but the fact that he kissed her. That she has not said anything at all about it since it happened. The empty, undiscussed space of it sits in his chest every time he meets her here. Sometimes he swears things have actually changed between them in the last few weeks, that there are small differences. That she forgets herself -- and the rules -- and lets their arms touch when they walk. That she texts him late to talk about nothing in particular. Sometimes just to say goodnight. That she is suddenly willing to tell him, at least partially, about the fear that's he sees swimming behind her dark eyes. That he knows is there this week and next. In every competition, for her whole life.
"Look, I'm not going to win," she says, kicking at a piece of gravel near her toe. "That's just the math. And I learned to live with that a long time ago. But if I really screw it up. On TV. That's the headline the next day, you know? That's my career."
"No, that's not true."
"It's the biggest event of the entire games. I mean, no offense or anything."
He laughs, raking a hand through his hair. "As someone who has fucked it up really badly on live TV in the second biggest Olympic event, I can tell you. I lived. A fall on a combination doesn't kill you. Usually, anyway."
She smiles under her mask, but he can tell it's a sad smile, one that doesn't quite make it all the way up to her eyes. "But I'm not like you," she says, looking away from him. "I am not in any history book, and I am sure as hell not going to Yale."
He wants to put his arms around her. (No high-fiving. No hugs. Three feet of distance.) Instead, he rests a gloved hand on the side of her face. "Listen. No, seriously, look at me for a second. You are a U.S. national champion, so you already got your history book, regardless of what happens. And Yale is fine, and honestly kind of sucked at times, but I'm still figuring that whole thing out. And whatever you do next week or next year, you will figure it out. Because god knows if I can..."
She covers his hand with hers and draws it down from her face, but she keeps holding on. Then her expression changes, a sideways tilt of her head.
"You never told me that you had a hard time at Yale."
"I really wanted it not to. I maybe thought that if I didn't tell you, or anyone, it wouldn't."
"Like if you just try to get through it, the difficult parts will..."
"Disappear," he says, his voice colliding with hers. "Or just not feel so difficult."
They are quiet for a moment. He steps away from her, taking back his hand and she smiles for real this time, points at his glove.
"Don't let 'em deport you over that."
"You'll defend me to the IOC, right?"
"Any time," she says with a serious nod.
His phone buzzes. A reminder alarm. He needs to be at the rink in ten minutes. He's running late. He makes his apologies. "You'll be there for the short?"
She folds her arms. "Where the hell else would I be? Getting my nails done?"
"Good," he says. "I'll look for you. But we'll talk before then."
"We will," she says with a nod.
They do.
He wins the short program 24 hours later. He sets a new world record.

Welcome to Reality
This was the first time I went to the principal’s office without being in trouble. I needed to ask Principal Porter a question about the upcoming trip. “Now,” I began, “ regarding the class trip...”
Principal Porter looked up from his Sudoku. “Yes, Eve? What about it?” he asked.
“You know how seniors are supposed to drive the lower years?”
“Of course,” Principal Porter nodded, “School policy. Saves us money on buses.”
“I know,” I nodded, “but I can't drive.”
Principal Porter raised an eyebrow. “Can't drive?” he said, “What do you mean you can’t drive?” He had a tough time imagining why a high school senior couldn’t drive.
“I have autism,” I continued, “and because of that, I struggle with sensory overload.” Truthfully, my parents forbade me from getting a license not because they don’t trust me, but rather the other drivers.
“I understand, Eve,” Principal Porter hesitated, “But we can't make exceptions for everyone.”
“And why’s that?” I asked
Principal Porter leaned back in his chair. He folded his hands. “Well,” he began, “It's not fair to the other students.”
It took me a few minutes to reconstruct the thing I was going to ask him. After four minutes of deer in the headlights, I asked, “What if I took the freshmen on the train instead?”
Principal Porter’s forehead wrinkled up like paint that had water damage. “Isn’t that more trouble than it’s worth?” he asked.
“Not as much as you think,” I said. I’m the only kid in my grade that can decipher the bus schedules. The hardest part will be doing the head count. “Honestly, I’m more worried about one idiot freshman getting separated from the rest of the group than ending up in the wrong place.”
To my shock, Principal Porter heard me out. “Alright, Eve. I'll consider it,” he said, “But if anything goes wrong, it's on you.” I still don’t know if he said this because he was genuinely willing to consider it or he just wanted be out of his office so he could go home.
“Thank you!” I beamed, oblivious to his attempt at intimidating me.
Principal Porter smiled faintly. “Just don’t mess it up, got it?”
I gave him a thumbs-up as I exited the office. Honestly, I’m shocked that it worked. Usually, stuff like this never breaks my way.
The day of the trip came. At 5:00 AM, my phone alarm blared and I woke up with a start. I threw on some clothes and rushes out the door.
I had roughly 11 people in my group, three times what the kids who could drive could fit in their cars. The school figured I could take more people since I wasn’t bound by the size of a vehicle.
I had to wake up the 11 freshmen in my group, and that proved to be a challenge. I had to give them (or, more accurately, their parents) the directions to the train station.
I herded the bleary-eyed freshmen through the train station. Immediately as the train pulled in and the doors opened, I found a seat and just passed out.
While I tried to sleep, I overheard two girls talking about their classmates. I don't think they go to our school. The older one looked like she was in her twenties, so hopefully not still in high school.
They continued their conversation, gradually speaking louder and louder. Eventually, I woke up and groaned, “Will the two of you shut up and let me sleep?”
The older one gave me a bad look. “If I were you, I'd shut my pie hole,” she responded.
I sat up and rubbed my temples. “The two of you speak for yourselves,” I huffed. I pointed to the younger one. “Especially you.”
The younger one crossed her arms and pouted. “You aren’t the boss of me,” she barked.
I put my hands on my thighs and leaned forward. “I'm really tired, so shut the hell up.”
I figured the two of them would step off at that point. It takes someone really stupid to pick on a twelve person deep group of high school kids, especially when half of them wear black lipstick and Slayer t-shirts and their leader weighs roughly 180 pounds.
Right before I could go back to sleep, the younger one really upped the ante. The older one barked, “Dumbass!”
I thought that was the end. It wasn’t. The younger one marched right over to me and spit in my hair.
I shoved her. She came after one of the freshmen, and I blocked her. She fell.
We ran away, she pursued.
As we got off, people on the platform waiting to get on shoved, squeezed, and squished like they were sardines in a can. Forget the yellow line, half the crowd hugged the train tracks. No breathing room, just a desperate mass of people clawing for a spot.
Fortunately for us, the platform was too crowded for either of them to see where we went. I rounded up the 11 freshmen and we all went outside. The two women from the train went down the stairs, tripped, and triggered a crowd crush in the concourse below.
The rest of the trip went as planned and we didn’t lose any freshmen. I didn’t even have to make anyone hold onto the length of rope with rings attached to it, and I got the opportunity to rinse the saliva out of my hair. Nobody has to know that the crowd crush in the train station was because of us.

Something that I’ve been looking forward to literally all year, ever since I came to Honduras, was to bring my mom and show her the world that she has gifted me to see. Except for her, it wasn’t exactly something she hasn’t seen before. The very first thing she noticed, other than the sweltering heat and humidity, was how similar present-day Honduras was to the Korea she had grown up in. The verdant pasture crescending into lofty mountains. Timeworn rickety vans and buses vying to pick up and pack in as much riders as the space allows. Those same vans swerving traffic and driving recklessly (relative to the customs of the US) on the paved roads and with even less caution to the wind on the dirt roads that are interspersed around the main highways. Roadside stands with bright fruits and vegetables heaped in piles, a mountain of recently harvested pineapples, or avocados or licha or whatever is in season, laying by the street hawker as they holler to everyone in the vicinity to come and purchase a bag of their garden-fresh produce. Or clothes or toothpastes or random gadgets, if that is what they’re selling. These street stalls and peddlers bring life to the city, intensifying the energy and heat of the already scorching day and as I show my mom around the city that has been my home for the past year, she leads me into a bank and luxuriates in the cool air of the air-conditioned room. This is what we used to do in Korea when it got too hot, she tells me. When we get home, she sits by the fan, two of them blasting full-power in her direction, and that’s pretty much where she stays if we’re not eating or traveling. I can’t have her in the house all day – I have to show her what Honduras is, who its people are, what beauty lies among the green fields and in the hearts of the catrachos that have wholeheartedly accepted me into their home. The next morning, we head out to Copan.
My parents are fascinated with indigenous culture, and my mom’s zealous interest in the ancient remains of the Mayan civilization of Copan Ruinas clearly showed. She had dozens of questions, all of which fell on me to translate with the unarranged guides who kindly volunteered their time to accompany us as we wandered the museum and hiked the ruins. For most of the day, we were the only visitors, and they must have welcomed the company. My mom listened keenly to the responses and stories of the Mayan past, chronicling them down carefully in her mind to later share with my dad and look for connections between the indigenous populations of America and the ancestry of Korea. After a fantastically thorough tour, we got another taste of Honduran hospitality – with no buses in sight and no sign of one coming soon, we hitchhiked our way back to our hostel. Many others would also show us this kindness as we journey through Honduras.
I spent half a day convincing my mom to go on this tour of a coffee and cacao plantation. I thought it would be perfect for her, because if there’s one thing she never forsakes, it’s nourishing our bodies with ingredients found in mother nature in its most unprocessed, organic state. The only problem with the tour was that it includes a two-hour trek on horseback through the rolling, lush hills of the Honduran and Guatemalan countryside. My mom had never ridden a horse in her life, and she was terribly scared of the prospect. After very nearly making a reservation but canceling at the last second, and later returning again to say that we’ve decided to actually go through with it, we trekked through the fertile soil of the massive farmland, cracking and chomping down on cacao seeds and snacking on fruit freshly picked from the trees. And of course, we traversed the unbelievably picturesque grassy highlands on horseback. Pure natural beauty, green as far as the eyes can see. Only a picture can come close to doing it justice. If that eye candy was not enough, we ended our day in a magical hot spring nestled in the mountains, the source of water flowing from a steaming waterfall that is too hot to touch. Everything is just magical, the warm water cloaking my body in the middle of a cloud forest, the views from the hours and days before imprinted in my mind and my camera, unwinding from a challenging year of teaching in such a breathtaking setting, my mom being here to experience it all alongside me.

Kei Tsukishima x F!Reader ( part 1 )
Tumblr media
❝ they were the sun and moon, destined to be together but only ever totally meeting once every hundred years or so. ❞
description: in a world where you only see color when you're in love, you've grown frustrated of the greyscale. but falling in love with someone you barely know was never something you planned. and, him not returning the feelings definitely wasn’t planned.
genre: soulmate au... except not quite. everyone is born colorblind. you can only see color once you fall in love (and it grows brighter until you see full color as the love grows). however, that doesn't ensure a lasting connection. it simply means that love exists in that moment, until it doesn't.

warnings/notes: i would like to say that the "soulmate au but only when you're actually in love" thing is not my idea! i don't know who's idea it was, and i'm sure it was created by several people, but i just wanted to tell you all that i wish i was that creative but, unfortunately, i am not. so! i wanted to give credit where credit is do! moving on to the fic! <3 enjoy, loves

“ you're just too good to be true, can't take my eyes off of you ” - can’t take my eyes off of you, frankie vallie
┏━━━━━⋇⋆⋆⋇❦⋇⋆⋆⋇━━━━━┓
Kei Tsukishima did not believe in falling in love. Sure, he believed in loving things, but being in love sounded absolutely ridiculous. The entire basis of love, relationships… it just never made any sense to him.
You, on the other hand, very well might have your heart placed on your sleeve. You had a million crushes, a constant new person in your focus. The thing was, you had never seen color.
Color only came to those who fell in love. Through those crushes, through those varying false relationships and games of spin the bottle and seven minutes in heaven, you had never actually fallen in love.
It was becoming frustrating.
While Tsukishima was perfectly content in living in a world without love, in the same greyscale life he had always known, while you were drowning trying to find someone to hang onto.
What strange friends you were.
Well, not friends, per say. But acquaintances for sure. A comfortable relationship between the two of you full of eye contact, your flirtations, and his constant coming into your coffee shop.
Tumblr media
If we had to name a beginning, it started the first week of the summer.
You were working at a coffee shop, this little place called Blu. It was a simple corner shop, squished in between two other buildings. You just wanted a summer job to pass by time and get some money, nothing permanent.
Until, one day a tall boy with glasses walked into the place.
He looked bored out of his mind as his eyes scanned the menu above your head. He didn’t say anything when you greeted him (“Welcome to Blu! What can I get for you today?” in your best customer service voice), nor did he say anything when you handed him his coffee. He only spoke to you once, a monotone “I’ll take a black coffee” when he ordered.
You were absolutely infatuated.
One, because who orders a plain black coffee in the middle of the summer? And two, he was cute.
He had to be your age, you decided. Though most kids your age would never get a plain black coffee, and he was pretty tall, he had the youth you did. You just knew.
“Kei!” you called for his order. He didn’t even look into your eyes.
Tumblr media
This was a repeat occurrence throughout the rest of the summer, every morning. Sometimes he would say something more, like add a little “Hello.” before ordering. Or he would steal glances at you, and there would be a staring contest for a moment or two.
Occasionally, he even muttered “thank you” when you handed him the mug. Call it what you want, but you called it “progress”.
One particular morning, he was dressed up. You didn’t know what for, you didn’t know much about him as it were, and all you could do was admire. He was stunning in a dark suit, the greyscale doing nothing but bring out how handsome he looked in it.
“Well, don’t you look ravishing today?” You flirted, already moving to get his black coffee. “The usual?”
He gave a small nod, not reacting to your compliment. He had his hands in his pockets, and a dangly earring in one ear.
“Well, here you go.” You handed him the mug. “One plain black coffee for Kei. Don’t spill it on yourself.”
“I would never.” He said. His voice was still monotone, but you caught it. A small quip in the corner of his lip. You almost got him to smile.
Tumblr media
However, most mornings it was the same thing. He would come in, order a black coffee for “Kei”, and sit near the window and scroll through his phone through sips. You would watch as the sun created lighter greys along his skin and hair, you would watch as the glare gleamed off of his glasses.
Oh, how you wished you could see the color of his hair.
And, one day, you did.
Tumblr media
It was a usual summer day. Autumn was approaching fast, so cool wind started to battle against the sun. But he came in nonetheless; Kei, with his black coffee. Except, this time was different.
“Welcome back, stranger.” You greeted, smiling as bright as you could. You didn’t even ask him what he wanted, you were already getting the black coffee ready behind the counter.
“I’ll take a black coffee.” he said, monotone and normal.
But, it wasn’t normal, not even the slightest bit. Because when you looked up to hand him his coffee, you were met with an array of colors.
You had to blink a few times, just to make sure that you were seeing what you were seeing. The colors were faded, newly forming, but they were still very much there. He had light yellow hair. No. “Blonde” was the word you were looking for.
He was frozen too, just standing there. But then you realized that you were just staring, his coffee in your hands. He must’ve thought you were insane.
“Kei, can I ask you something?” you asked, not wanting to hand him his drink yet. You weren’t one to let your questions go unanswered.
For a moment, he blinked at you. He definitely had to think you were insane. “What?”
“Do you see color?”
If you saw color as you looked at him, you hoped that maybe… maybe he saw color when he looked at you.
“No.”
Right. Of course not.
“Okay. Thanks! I was just wondering.” you handed him the mug, plastering a fake smile on your face (partly for the sake of customer service, and mainly to cover your disappointment). “Enjoy!”
He gave you one last look over, one last glance, before going to his usual spot by the window.
The thing was, you were hoping that he did. You know how ridiculous it sounded, being in love with someone who only spoke a couple of sentences to you. But you couldn’t deny that spending the entire summer excited to see that one person at work… it made sense that you would be.
You just weren’t expecting the colors to arrive right before you leave the job. The perfect time to fall for someone you will probably never see again once you leave and return to school and sports full-time.
Love really does come when you least expect it.
Tumblr media
For the rest of that day, you spent your time finding as many colors as you could. You didn’t want it to go away, though it was a likely chance. The colors go away when the love does.
You had to look up what some of the colors were. It was strange to be taught the colors without ever seeing them, and your parents had explained how some colors look, but it was completely different. It was like each of them had their own feeling.
But, even then, you only witnessed the faded versions of those colors. The sky was a pale blue, hidden by the grey clouds. The grass was almost yellow, and the shop you worked at was a soft brown. Everything was still hidden by the greyscale you were accustomed to. And you couldn’t help but want to see more, see them in their full color.
Maybe falling completely and utterly in love would be an amazing thing.
Tumblr media
It was comparable to the sun and moon, the relationship between you and Kei Tsukishima. You danced around each other, hoping to chase the light the other brought.
When you worked the next morning, your usual boy didn’t show up. Your eyes searched for him every time the small ding of the bell above the door announced someone entering. But it was never him.
Sighing, you ended your last shift there. Maybe you would come back as a customer, order a drink that has way too much sugar, and sit in his spot in hopes he would show up and sit with you. Or maybe you would run into him on your way out.
Or not.
As you hung up your apron for the last time, gave your manager your nametag and said your last goodbyes to your favorite coworkers, you accepted the fact that the colors would leave soon. They very well couldn’t stay if you end up falling out of love with a boy you would never see again.
Tumblr media
It had been months.
Months, and the colors didn’t leave and didn’t grow any brighter. You were stuck in a world where everything was filtered to be faded, and you were growing annoyed.
“Just fucking go away already.” you spoke to the universe.
You would rather live in a world without color than live in a world of almost.
Tumblr media
“Everyone!” Daichi called for the team to join him. They obeyed. “Now that Coach Ukai is our official coach, he’s come up with an idea. I think it’s pretty good, so hear him out.” Daichi announced. He turned to their coach, letting him speak.
“Alright, guys.” Ukai crossed his arms. “We have some tournaments this weekend. So do some of the other sports teams, specifically the girls volleyball teams and the softball and baseball teams.”
Tsukki was bored. What did softball and baseball have to do with volleyball? Their season isn’t for months, anyway. They have plenty of time before actual games.
“So, I’ve talked with the softball and baseball coaches and they think that it’s a good idea for us to team up for some fundraising things the next couple of weeks so we can get buses.” Ukai explained. “And, on top of that, someone from the softball team said that they would help us with volleyball practices after softball, since we typically end later than they do.”
“Wait, softball?” Tanaka gaped. “So a girl’s gonna be helping us?”
“A girl already does help us, dumbass.” Tsukki rolled his eyes. Kiyoko did too, but subtly.
“Yeah, she’ll be here in a couple of minutes so I wanted to give a warning.” Ukai said. “She’s in her first year, too, but I expect respect. Alright, now that that’s out of the way, let’s get on with practice.”
Okay, cool. Now back to practice. The reason they’re there to begin with.
They practiced for a bit, going through drills and did a bit of half-assed running (which Tsukki still never understood, why would he have to run miles if he’s just a blocker?). Until a girl walked in.
It was you.
You were here, at Karasuno, at his practice.
You walked in, still in your softball practice uniform. Every time that he had seen you during the summer, you never had your hair down. But, when you walked into the gym and greeted Coach Ukai with a smile, your hair was down and messy from the wind.
Everyone else had noticed Tsukki had stopped in his tracks and dropped what they were doing, turning their heads to see what he was looking. Or rather, who. Now you had the entire team’s attention.
That was when you caught his eye.
His breathing stopped. And so did yours.
