Buckle up folks, this is a long one

Some doubts and breakfast

"Alright, we can get the Journals first thing tomorrow. There's some of Bill's weaknesses in journal 3, those should come in handy." O,Ford says. it was already dark out when they came up from the basement

"Bill? You know what it's to late for this. let's just get you old geezers to bed." Y,Stan says with a grin

"Oh man, geezers? we're not that old!" O,Stan says. "I'll go find some blankets, be right back."

"You are ta me, you old geezer!" Y,Stan yells after his older self. Then it was just Y,Stan, and O,Ford in the living room. "So uh... You can have the couch." Y,Stan says

"You're hurt. You need it more than I do." O,Ford says

"It's your couch anyway, I'll be fine somewhere else." Y,Stan says

O,Ford's a bit concerned."Are you sure? It's really no trouble if-"

"I said I don't want it!" Y,Stan yells. What had Stan done in the future to make O,Ford so nice to him? Probably lie. That was the only way Ford would ever be this nice to him. If O,Ford knew the truth, he'd know that Stan was a no-good excuse of a human, not worth his time

O,Stan came back with some blankets. "Great, I leave for two seconds, and now there's even more tension in the air." O,Stan Sighs."l was doing that self-loathing thing again, wasn't I."

"I really hate that you're me." Y,Stan grumbles. None of his thoughts are just his own, now that there's two of him

"Yup, there it is." O,Stan says. "Kid, I didn't trick Ford into caring about me, or whatever other reason you've come up with as to why Ford doesn't hate you. You know I wouldn't do that."

"Stanley, I realize our relationship was rather, strained at this time, to say the least. But I can assure you, I'm being genuine." O,Ford says

"W whatever you say." Y,Stan says. He didnt need these old Stans to be worried about him. He needed them to be worried about the Ford that was still trapped in the portal. Y,Stan had been working weeks on that thing, and now Ford was right there, in front of him. well, a version of Ford at least. Y,Stan can't believe it

"What is it, Stanley?" O,Ford says

"Wh- oh, it's nothing," Y,Stan looks away, realizing he was staring."It's just... you look cozy."

O,Ford pats the couch indicating for Y,Stan to lay down, which he begrudgingly does

They finally settle down for the night O,Stan was on the floor with some blankets and a pillow

O,Ford wasn't going to repeat his past mistakes. He'd thought a lot about what he would've done differently if given the chance. He always wished he could've prevented everything with the portal sooner. To stop Bill before weirdmageddon, before the fearamid, before the memory gun. O,Ford shoots his eyes open

O,Ford's carful not to wake the sleeping Y,Stan on top of him. Y,Stan's leg and arm were draping off the couch now, but he was sound asleep

Judging by the low light from the window, O,Ford would guess it's probably early morning now. But the Stans were both still asleep, and both of them were snoring loudly. Great, just what O,Ford needed right now, to be alone with his thoughts."Stan? You awake?" O,Ford tries, only to be met with more snoring

O,Ford breathes out slowly. Ookay, this is fine. he'll just wait for them to wake up. Simple. Why couldn't he just convince his brother (brothers?) to shut down the portal. True, they wanted him back, but should they? He wasn't exactly the best brother, even if he was actually trying to be now. Maybe he shouldn't help with the portal, was there even a way to Bill proof it?

But O,Ford knew the Stans wouldn't give up on past him. O,Stan had already opened the portal without him once. O,Ford knew the Stans would find a way to reopen the portal, with or without his help

The sun was rising now. O,Ford would feel slightly less bad if he woke up the Stans now. He looked at Y,Stan on his chest, he was so fragile in O,Ford's arms. When was the last time Y,Stan even slept? O,Ford decided against waking them up. Instead, O,Ford settled back in place and closed his eyes again, drifting back to sleep

The sun was high in the sky before Y,Stan woke up again, but eventually, he began to stir. There was a smell of toast and eggs in the air

"Good morning Stanley." O,Ford says, putting down the book he was reading

Y,Stan remembers everything that happened last night and immediately falls off the couch, and consequently, O,Ford. "Aap-... So that wasn't a dream? You're still here."

O,Ford stands up and stretches. "Yes, that wasn't a dream. I'm not sure if that's fortunate or unfortunate." O,Ford says "Now come along Stan already made breakfast."

They go to the kitchen and find O,Stan setting the table."Morning. sleep well?" O,Stan asks

"Yeah, surprisingly." Y,Stan says as he sits down to eat breakfast

"This is, I'm a really good cook." Y,Stan compliments

"Why, thank you mini me." O,Stan says

"All things considered, you seem rather accepting of the fact time travel exists." O,Ford says

"Yeah well, in my short time in gravity falls, I've seen some things. If there was a place that time travel would exist, it'd be here." Y,Stan says

"You got that right. Though we weren't even in gravity falls when we made the jump." O,Stan says

"Right, the Stan o'war ll, you said?" Y,Stan says

"We're not talking about that! that doesn't exist." O,Ford puts his face in his hands."...I really wish I didn't tell you that."

"Ok ok I won't ask about the boat. at least not right now," Y,Stan mumbles

"Pretending I didn't hear that." O,Ford says. "So I think it would be fastest if we split up to get the Journals, Stan do you think you could go to the bunker to get Journal 3? Then me and Stanley can go near gravity falls elementary to get Journal 2"

"Elementary? Ford. Tell me you did not hide one of you Journals- Journals that, mind you, have extremely dangerous information in them! near an elementary school?" O,Stan says

"Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time, but when you put it like that- In my defense, I was running on like no hours of sleep at the time." O,Ford says. "...which, wasn't that long ago in this time."

"Wait, is that how Gideon found Journal 2." O,Stan says

"Gideon? that's a dumb name" Y,Stan says

"Oh, you don't know the half of it." O,Stan says

"Gideon had Journal 2? I thought you found it." O,Ford says

"Nope, I swiped it from him when he stole the deed to the mystery shack." O,Stan says. "Probably never would have found it otherwise."

"He stole what!" O,Ford yells. Making a mental note of that for when they got back to their time

"We got it back- it doesn't matter, alright." O,Stan says. "Yeah, sure I can go to the bunker, but why is he going with you?"

"I mean, you're welcome to take him with, but I don't think he's letting go anytime soon." O,Ford says

Y,Stan was holding onto O,Ford's arm. "I'm just fine going with Ford. Thank you very much." Y,Stan says. He wasn't going to let O,Ford out of his sight "Last time I left you alone, you built a portal and then got sucked into it."

"That's a bet of an oversimplification of our relationship. And that was a long time ago." O,Ford says

"Not ta me, it wasn't!" Y,Stan says

Thay finish breakfast and get ready to go on ther respective trips. They were at the door about to leave

"Ford if- when we get mini you back, well that- I mean, the kids aren't born yet in this time. Would bringing you back early change the timeline so they'd no longer exist." O,Stan says hesitant. That was perhaps the only thing that wasn't worth getting Ford back early for

"I'm afraid I don't know enough about time travel. If we're talking about the butterfly effect then us even being here could massively change the future, unless it's a closed time loop in which case we can't change the future in any way we haven't already, I theorize that's the kind of time travel the kids did. But if it is a time loop then we couldn't get mini me back and Stanley would have to forget ever meeting us, to preserve the timeline. There's also the possibility that there's multiple timelines at play, that's probably the best-casescenario, cause it'd mean we could both save mini me- man! that is fun to say. mini me, mini me- anyway, both save mini me and the children wouldn't disappear. But... there's really no way to tell." O,Ford says, forgetting to breathe

"Whoa, slow down there." O,Stan says

"These kids you're talking about, are they?" Y,Stan asks inquisitively

"It's probably best if we don't tell you any more about them." O,Stan says

"Oh, Stan, you don't think I could've- when I let things slip about the future, I mean-" O,Ford says, worry in his voice. He could never forgive himself if that were the reason the kids might disappear. Or rather, never appear to begin with

"Hay now, It's like you said, we just don't know." O,Stan says, trying to reassure O,Ford

"We should probably get going if we wanna get back before dark." Y,Stan says

On that somber note, they left the shack. O,Stan heading towards the bunker, and Y,Stan & O,Ford heading to the gravity falls elementary school

So I see folks pointing out that Louis' circle A tattoo is more likely an aesthetic choice than an announcement of a political commitment to anarchism, and saying basically that that maybe makes him a bit of a poser and I mean- I GUESS. But I don't like to look at things that way and I don't think it's useful. As I see it the subversive sexiness of the symbols of resistance have ALWAYS been gateways for people who are drawn to the struggle in vague ways and that's GOOD. Aligning yourself with those values is good no matter the reason, in my book, especially given the wretched options available out there, but also the journey doesn't necessarily stop there. Gatekeeping queerness victimizes people who are just trying things out and starting to discover that it may run deeper than just trying on a new look who should instead be welcomed and helped along their path, and I fail to see how gatekeeping political affiliations is any different (plus how counterproductive to actual movement building is that?)

ANYWAY. What I really want to say about Louis is that while I KNOW that Louis is probably not secretly a theory reading anti-state communalist anarchist, I think that actually Louis' optimism and idealism (and his unwavering commitment to allying himself with the working class and embracing those roots) are a perfect fit for the philosophy and always have been. I know that anarchism is mostly understood as being about throwing molotov cocktails and fighting the state (and the allure of its symbols are that they signify this, a terrific aesthetic for him to choose to sign on with in my book), but that's honestly largely cartoonish stereotyping that comes directly from anti-anarchist state propaganda. That resistance is necessary in this hellscape of oppression we live in and is super important, but in its heart anarchism is only about the state in that the state and capitalism currently stands in the way of its goals. The whole point of anarchism is that it's NOT about the state! It's about being able to imagine something better than a state, it's about how we live and about how we SHOULD live, it's about HOPE and picturing something utopian and something free of the ways capitalism pits us against one another! What could be more Louis than that?

"I need you and you need me and I love that" is as beautiful a way of talking about the cornerstone of anarchism that is mutual aid as any long winded essay I've read (even if what he meant was contextually different), and I think when he talks again and again about how special the space fans have made around him is he is expressing an intuitive understanding of the importance of autonomous zones, places and moments outside of the shitty life imposed on us by the system (also a huge part of anarchist thought). Maybe I'm just being an optimist but I think that Louis DOES understand that caring for people and wanting self-determination and freedom for all and allying himself with the working class involves a certain amount of resistance to and positioning yourself in opposition to the state. Thinking the symbols of smashing that state are cool isn't meaningless; it's a CHOICE. There are other cool symbols out there and I just happen to think that feeling a resonance with certain ones is something in and of itself, even if at this moment he does not choose to start a fight with the media about it all.

I don't think DC even realises themselves how much they snapped when they created the Birds of Prey team and concept. The name alone? Spectacular 🤌

Like I literally can't think of anything even remotely similar in execution, longevity, cultural impact etc etc.

Marvel's tried it with one offs in x men evolution and comics but nothing really comes of it.

It's disappointing to see DC not realise/understand the appeal of the team - and yeah badass girl power is part of it but the other half is how the core 4 become friends and family and that's got to be the heart of any BoP book.

I'm not saying never change the roster, like you don't want it to get stale. But you also don't want it to be unrecognisable. I think there's no real difference between the current BoP run and something like Outsiders.
