Disney 100 ✨🏰🤍

Wishing you all a happy new year and to Disney, a belated 100th anniversary! 🎉

To celebrate Disney’s century milestone, I created an illustration based on 100 of Disney’s most known and loved characters from their respective movies/ series. I’ve included all the ones I’ve known and feel are generally popular but I’m sorry if your personal favourites aren’t here.

This has been in the works for almost four months now but due to many delays I couldn’t finish it on time. So here it finally is!

Out of all these range characters, the hardest to draw was the Cars. I’m not used to drawing cars so I’m not generally good at them (yet). Some of these may look simple and easy to draw but trust me, they’re not 😂.

With drawing the characters and the background, I like to be accurate with the respective style it’s drawn/ animated in and the colours too. But also I wanted to also simplify the 3D ones and add a little depth using shadow to the 2D ones. For example some of these films would have a desaturated grainy effect to it and I wanted to keep that. But finally after months of working on it, it’s completed and I’m happy with it! ✨.

Finished the second chapter of "Go Ahead, Take Her"!

Like any little kid her age, Dot loved stories. She loved stories of brave heroes especially - heroes who would rise up to rescue and protect the innocent, who would battle terrible monsters and vile villains, who would save the day and always win in the end.

She loved playing them out too. Sometimes with her friends, sometimes with Flik, sometimes - on rare occasions when she actually had a minute away from her work - with Atta.

She'd play all the roles, rotating them with her friends, but when it came to Flik, she was almost glad to play the damsel - provided she could play the hero later in their game. He'd make it worth her while too. He'd always come up with the craziest, funniest bad guys to capture her. “Baron Bronzo the Belligerent Bombardier Beetle '' was one of her favorites, especially the voice he'd use for him. How he was able to sound so high pitched and so nasally, Dot could never guess, but it would send her into a hysterical gigglefit every time he spoke like that.

But there was one detail those stories and games always left out, and one she was finding out now:

What does the damsel do while she's captured?

The capture was always exciting, and the rescue more exciting still. But what happened between those times? What was a kidnapped princess to do while in the clutches of her captor?

The answer, apparently, was chores.

Somehow the stories never mentioned how the fair princess would have to clean the dishes for her captor's minions. They didn't mention the captive having to carry refilled glasses of stinking cactus liquor one at a time to the evil wizard who imprisoned her in a tower.

And they certainly didn't mention having to drag a sack as large as she was down to the lakeshore in order to wash and dry the filthy clothes inside it.

Fanmade Disney princesses

So after watching a couple of videos I decided to make my own OC princesses for Disney. Most of them are black bc I'm not waiting on Disney; they want to keep Tiana a token so bad, well in my verse she isn't the only black Princess.

Itzel

Movie: Emperor's New Groove

Virtue: Generosity

Personality: Caring, responsible, moody, short-tempered

Love Interest: Kuzco

Storyline: The "girl next door" neighbor of Pacha, Itzel was a young woman who herded Llama so well she developed a reputation for being a llama whisperer. She was selected to be part of the Emperor's chosen brides but was rejected. In anger, and to defend the other candidates, Itzel insulted the spoiled king...and gets promptly kicked out of the palace. Later on, she finds out Kuzco was cursed into a llama. She poked fun at his predicament before realizing the power vacuum his absence would cause. She decided to help Pacha and Kuzco, and from there she and Kuzco learn they have more in common than they thought.

Princess Bron:

Movie: A Bug's Life

Virtue: Power

Personality: Spitfire, friendly, wary, resentful

Love Interest: Soar (OC)

Storyline: The sister of Atta and Dot, and the middle child of the Royal Family. A fire ant, Bron always knew she was an outcast among her peers. Bron fell fast for a rouge grasshopper named Soar, who unlike his peers he doesn't believe in mistreating ants. Together with Flik they hatch a plan to scare Hopper and his gang off the island forever. Bron also has trouble with Atta as the two have different opinions on how to handle the crisis. But after certain events the two sisters come to understand each other and eventually lead their people to freedom. At the end Bron and Saur leave to form their own colony but with bugs of all types.

Alma Mater

Storyline: Alma is the niece if Tow Mater (don't think too hard on it) who wanted to leave her town of Radiator Springs. When she encounters a stranger by the name Ligtning McQueen Alma believes she may fianlly found a way out of her sleepy decrepit town. But over the course of the film Alma gains a deeper appreciation for her heritage which helps her when she does go out into the big world. Alma inherited Doc Hudson's office, then left to pursue a career at CHROME. She also helped a Lemon named Lucia with her dreams of becoming a racer.

Lucia

Movie: Cars Franchise

Virtue: Inclusiveness

Personality: Headstrong, stubborn, self confident, prideful, pensive

Love interest: Francesco Bernoulli

Storyline: Lucia was a young Italian woman with dreams of becoming a race car. The problem? She was a Lemon, and often was sickly. But she refused to let her condition pull her down. Studying and modifying techniques, she grew to become a name in the Lemon community as a talent. However when she submitted her application to several organizations she was turned down. She was very close to giving up until she met a pink Tow Truck named Alma. Befriending Alma, thr two would go on to help CHROME take down a conspiracy and, Lucia ends up forming her own league allowing Lemons and other "defect" cars a chance to pursue careers in racing.

Love Interest: THE EVIL EMPEROR ZURG

Storyline: Originally a schoolteacher from Earth, Zephyr was captured by Zurg after she stood up to him when he tried to take over her town. She was very snarky, and wasn't the least bit intimidated by his posturing. Which confused the hell outta the Evil Emperor! She'd get rescued by Star Command and over the years, she and Zurg had one encounter after the other. But SOMEHOW to the shock of everyone Zurg was actually kinda liking her ferocity. And hard as Zephyr didn't want to admit, she did come to respect Zurg for his consistency. The two ended up secretly dating, and eventually secretly married. Now with a ton shit of power Empress Zephyr wanted to help the galaxy than to conquer it so she took on the role of the diplomat to make sure intergalactic war didn't break out.

Hazel

Movie: Monsters Inc

Love Interest: James P. Sullivan

Storyline: After losing her job Hazel is making ends meet doing odd jobs. She gets a gig babysitting for a couple's three year old daughter. One night after hearing some noise, Hazel discovers a secret room Boo's door...that leads to the Monster World. Encountering creatures who seem more scared of her than she is of them, Hazel is nearly caught but comes across Mike and Sully.. Together the trio and Boo must find the door to take them back into the human world. As Hazel uncovers more secrets, she learns that the monster world and her world aren't so different and changes her perspective.

Storyline: An American tutor, Temperance was invited to the coronation of Queen Elsa. After she ran away, Temperance offered to go with Anna to look for the icy queen. While Anna and Kristoff were chased out of the castle, Temperance hid and snuck further inside. She reached out to Elsa and talked to her, but then they were accosted by guards. Returning to the castle Temperance pleaded for Elsa's freedom. It was then she learned of Hans plot to kill the royal family. Finding a freed Elsa, Temperance told Elsa what she had found and the two rush to stop Hans. After saving Anna, Arendelle is restored and Temperance is rewarded with a knighthood. Temperance learns the importance of listening to others, and being honest and open.

Feeling a bit sympathetic towards The Prince Diamond teaches him about the modern world and brings him along to meet the Muppets. Because of The Prince's natural talent at comedy the Muppets sign him a gig at their upcoming show. Meanwhile Diamond learns to appreciate community and helping others (The Muppets) that it isn't just a one woman show.

ティルの胸は悔しさでいっぱいだったが、グレミオのことを思うと、プラックルーンで操られていたミルイヒを裁くわけにはいかなかった。 Tir’s heart was filled with frustration, but he thought of Gremio’s words—how they couldn’t judge Milich based on something he had done under the Black Rune’s influence.

もしここでミルイヒの命を奪ったら、グレミオの気持ちを無にすることになるのだ。 Killing Milich here will not honor Gremio’s wishes.

ティルはそれだけは、したくなかった。 That is the one thing I do not want to do.

グレミオの気持ちを、無にすることだけは。 I will stand by Gremio.

「ティル、どけよ！！」またもビクトールは言ったが、ティルは根を下ろさなかった。 “Tir, I mean it!” Viktor rumbled menacingly once more, but Tir did not lower his staff.

「ビクトール… 、クレオ……、パーン…。ミルイヒ将軍に、罪はない……。僕だって、彼のしたことは、許せないさ… …。でも、僕らが戦う目的は、人を殺めることじゃないし、自分の恨みを晴らすためでもない…」 “Viktor, Cleo, Pahn… we cannot blame General Milich for his actions. I can’t forgive him for what he’s done, either, but… we are not fighting in order to kill others, or to get revenge for ourselves.”

うつむいたティルの頬を、涙が伝った。 His head bowed, tears dripping down his cheeks.

怒りに剣を震わせ、涙を浮かべて叫んだビクトールの横に、フリックが歩み出る。 Viktor waved his sword angrily. The huge bear of a man seemed close to tears. Flik stepped forward to stand by his side.

「よせ、ビクトール・・・・・・。リーダーが決めたことだ、リーダーに従うんだ」 “That’s enough, Viktor. We follow what our leader says.”

「リーダーって、お前……」 “Leader, you say!”

駆けてくるマッシュの後ろに、居城にいたはずのスタリオンの姿があった。 Stallion, who should have been at the castle headquarters, dashed in behind Mathiu.

まさか、居城に異変が……？ Has something happened to our base?

もう一度、ティルはマッシュに叫んだ。 Tir called to his tactician once again.

「何があったんだ？！」 “What’s going on?!”

マッシュが返した言葉に、ティルも皆も愕然とした。 Mathiu’s reply shocked everyone to their cores.

「ゴウラン地方に帝国軍が攻め寄せてきます！！急いで軍を戻します！！」 “The Goran Checkpoint is under attack by the Imperial Army! We must march back with all haste!”

Whumpmas in July #2: First Memory of Whumperflies

I really enjoyed the Mr Majeika books as a young child. They were fun, easy-to-read stories about a wizard teaching a class of ordinary children and using magic to liven up his lessons.

The first book to give me whumperflies was almost certainly Mr Majeika and the School Caretaker (yes, I went out of my way to find out the title). Mr Majeika and a couple of the child characters break their legs in a boat accident, and then the antagonist (an evil witch) kidnaps Mr Majeika. If memory serves right she tries to kill him by throwing the van he’s in off a cliff, but he’s saved by one of the children doing a bit of magic of her own.

Anyway. That was the beginning of my obsession with the “bound and gagged” trope.

Honourable mentions: Flik getting beaten up by grasshoppers in A Bug’s Life. Also there was a kidnapping (carried out by the protagonist, no less) in one of the Worst Witch books. I remember re-reading that scene a few times. 😅

Before Sing 2 even came, I wasn't really shipping the koala with anyone tbh. However, what's common with Internet users is that if they like a film or franchise that much, they feel to redo it for fun via YouTube recast spoof or literature fanmake. I ought to know, since I am one of them.

When I saw the first Sing, I didn't remotely think of any hidden details that gave one the idea that Buster and Eddie may be closeted boyfriends, though that's not proven yet. However, because Illumination is a new company that thrives on what masses of the audiences want and trying to be more relevant to today, them becoming a canon pair would not be impossible.

The main problem is, some of the online spoof-makers or fanmake-writers, who don't even think about the hidden details like the detail-searchers and NoodleMoon shippers do, and the characters they cast don't seem fitting to be more than just friends.

Ok, I’m going to rant/write you a little essay about hoppy (love that nickname.) so feel free to ignore this if it’s too much, I’m just really passionate about animated villains.

So ever since I was a kid (still do) I have loved villains. Randall from monsters inc, etc. hoppers death always really upset me as a kid, to the point where I would stop the movie before he died, and make up my own ending where he lived. (Writing fanfic back then.) it just struck me as a cruel way to kill a character. We know he’s a great and well written character, who has trauma from almost being killed by a bird. So to me, having him killed by a bird is such a cruel way to kill off his character. Just looking at his character, this is a guy who:

Clearly loved his mom enough to make her a promise on her DEATHBED.

Cares enough about his brother to hold to that promise.

Never actually killed any of the circus bugs or ants.

So basically, I hate the fact that he died the way he did. Eaten alive. I am constantly looking for good fanfiction to counter the canon. I actually headcanon him as a person who genuinely cares about his family, and for all he yells at molt, loves him as his brother. I always hated the fact that molt isn’t shown to be upset about the fact that hopper is dead.

I dunno. I think hopper is a great character, I’m mad/sad he died the way he did, and I really love your fanfictions. That’s all, thanks for reading :)

Absolutely, Hopper needs redemption rather than death.

And I feel like, when people hear or read that statement, they think, "Okay, this is another naive child who thinks everyone deserves a second chance."

It's more than second chances. He's had more than enough chances to flee the ants, to make amends with his brother, to end the bargain with the Queen. It's about focusing less on his actions and more on what's driving them.

I don't believe that everyone is innately good. People can be downright evil. But I do believe that there's a reason for everything. And the reason I write about villains -- as you stated in the ask -- is because there's a logical reason behind his actions: trauma.

Hopper may not be innocent, but he does deserve a chance to tell his side of the story. He at least deserves the chance to explain himself -- whether you take to heart that explanation or not, it's up to you.

Any of us--well, let me keep this movie-centered. Any of the ANTS or Circus Bugs could have went down the same path he did. Just because they appear nice and somewhat functional doesn't make them immune to anger or irrationality. Flik easily could have went down Hopper's path after the way the colony has treated him for years. He didn't, though, and that shows his heart -- regardless if he misinterpreted their disdain for appreciation.

But the fact that Flik could have become Hopper in the movie is what should change the attitude we have toward him.

And all the examples you gave of Hopper's positive characteristics were spot-on as well. Villains are never completely bad. And it also upsets me that they never gave him much of a background in the movie. All other villains are given some tragic backstory, to at least have a chance for redemption. And if they choose to forsake that redemption, that's on them.

But Hopper isn't even given a chance for others to reach out to him. Only Molt really knows what Hopper has been through and I think that's why he stays with Hopper in the gang instead of running off. Even after the verbal abuse he gets from his brother, he still willingly talks to him, compliments him, and just overall tries to reach out to him. He knows that Hopper has been through something and the guy is just having a hard time letting others get close enough to help.

But we as the spectators don't have that insight. Neither do the ants. We aren't given a chance to feel pity for him, and likewise he isn't given a chance for people to offer him redemption.

Just think about a movie. Any movie that has a villain in it. And replay that movie and see if you can pinpoint a moment where the villain is either shown some sort of grace because of his past or is offered a way out (redemption, leave the situation, "you don't have to do this", etc.)

If you can think of one -- because I'm sure I have to be forgetting a lot of movies -- then those villains also deserve a chance. If not, then it shows how unjust Hopper's representation was in the movie.
