speaking more from my last post about shadow magic and its just. so interesting tbh. like the first mention of shadow magic comes from khrysalis when we enter the eclipse tower and it gives us interesting looks into how shadow magic as a whole is regarded in the spiral...
its so insane to hear that its a forbidden magic and that grandmother raven and BARTLEBY of all people forbade it to be taught. raven i could probably understand, but considering we are now bartlebys scion... it's hard to think about the possibility that he didn't trust us before. an outsider from the spiral learning a forbidden magic...
i think what's also interesting is the fact that the shadow magic the wizard learns is a wholly unique one. shadow magic corrupted the moon magic inside the tower, so there's a possiblity that our wizard only knows this specific subset of shadow magic—one that's been permanently altered by moon magic in the eclipse tower, and one that can only be taught by sofia darkside.
it makes me wonder if velma knows the same kind, or if hers and the wizard's shadow magic is different... is one more volatile than the other? or if there's no difference at all and im looking into it too much lolol
knowing this and knowing raven forbade anyone in the spiral from ever learning shadow magic, it would make a little bit of sense for how hostile she initially seems towards the wizard... if we take what we saw from the book of secrets, then we know that magic law states that nothing is an accident—magic is reactive and 'sentient' to a certain degree, so there was no mistake in the wizard freeing grandfather spider from his prison using magic, because that's what they wanted.
granted it was for other reasons... but it doesn't paint a pretty picture of any of us. the wizard learns shadow magic, the wizard frees spider, and then spider goes on to say that theyre his favorite.
i think what makes this particularly more tragic is the fact that the wizard didn't even have a choice. sofia says this herself!
they need to learn it. the sword of kings isn't enough. being a child of prophecy isn't enough. they failed once before, and theyre not eager to fail again. theyll try anything, and everything, and that includes... freeing grandfather spider.
which, you know, speaking of backlash... sofia mentions it too lol.
which is interesting to me... i always complained that the morganthe fight needed a bit more oomph—which, i still believe it does, to some extent—but i think how she died was a fitting end to her. crushed underneath the weight of her own powers, her own shadow—her backlash. she was the instrument of her own defeat, and, well... that could have very well been the wizard. she's our reflection, our parallel. i think it's why the wizard never mentions or claims that theyre the one that did her in—because they technically... didn't, but they also did. which is cool!
much to think about....

I buy that Alistor is on Liliths leash. How he got there, no idea, but I'd believe the real reosen he's hanging around Charlie is under orders considering how vaugh he's been about his motivation.
BUT. What I don't buy is Lilith being the big villen. I've seen a lot of people theorise that she's been missing because she's screwing around with heaven or she left because she saw Lucifer as weak or something, but I'm sorry. I just don't see it. Like.
This Lilith???
Your gonna argue THIS woman just up and left her family??? No. Just- no. I don't believe it for a second.
So where IS Lilith, then? If she's not the big bad, pulling strings from behind the sceans, then where is hells queen? Well, this is where I get into speculation territory:
I think she's been kidnapped by Roo.

"The outer reaches of space remain unexplored by humankind to this day, but its greed is relentless. We grasp and yearn and hunger for knowledge— answers to questions we cry out into the endless void expecting to understand, expecting the stars to respond. The stars will not, but one day something else will— and we will not like what it has to say." — Rome Solomon, Beyond the Exosphere (1965)

no i actually need to make a post about this. i see ppl thinking crowley is gonna turn "actually" evil or accept the duke of hell position next season and i respect that but also, he's literally been protecting aziraphale for thousands of years. even when he was angry with him, tho never before as he is now, he still protected him and he will continue to do that even from heaven, even from God. he will. they would not only threaten God for aziraphale, but actually carry through with their threat. he's literally devoted his entire existence to keeping aziraphale safe and happy and he's not about to stop now just because he got his heartbroken. he has before!!! he has, even if not on this level, but he always shown up for aziraphale and he will have the stupidest, silliest fucking plan ever to rescue aziraphale from heaven next season and he'll probably fail but he will try again. it's like you guys didn't hear "rescuing me makes him (crowley) so happy". come on

When it comes to ships, especially those that are not good relationships, where its a question of whether they actually even like each other - i always think its important to think on why the characters are actually attracted to one another, both physically and mentally.
When it comes to The Captivating Princess, i consider her a far more in depth character then others sometimes care to... the thing with The Princess is that she's lonely, terribly so, and this influences the undercurrent of many of her actions. She's cruel and horrid and selfish and fundamentally cant understand normal human relations - and all of this ties into her yearning to understand it. This is without getitng into her clear love for the arts and creation, of which she aims to learn from and support....
The Princess' interest in Jamie was a slow build from their first meeting, initially a temporary entertainment at a party, and later a pawn in her attempt to bring her sister up to being like her. That did not go as planned - and neither did any of her later schemes where Jamie got involved. That is where things began to shift from a passing side glance of attention, and into Jamie being a much grander thorn in her side - a thorn that needs to be pruned, but perhaps could be shaped.
Because The Princess likes that Jamie fights her, likes the struggle and the chess plays and the inquisitive conversation. People either adore The Princess or fear her entierly, so few ever actually talk and engage with her. Its really quite boring, and why the alternative presented can be enticing.
Jamie also presents such a sharp juxtapositon against the palace despite being so heavily involved with it.... The Palace stands shuttered, unvinting, heavy silence over everything. It is quite different, then, from the poet who is inherently known for being loud and talkative.
Perhaps, it is that difference that compells her. Something different, then the silence she was raised and kept in. and her clear yearning for something more, to not be alone.

I'm comparing xuanji and tantai jin right now in how they handle their "innocence" about romance (just cause they don't feel emotion generally)
Xuanji: completely oblivious, WOULD grab sifengs boner while dropping in on him naked in a bath and DOES NOT care. He's her great friend! And he's fun to make blush! Will also be the first to kiss HIM. Again, she's not really sure why or that it means EONS to sifeng emotionally. But she is glad to be with her friend and it seems fun uvu
(Xuanji later will go onto top her babe but that's later, I'm talking the early parts when she isn't feeling things much)
Tantai jin: I am SCANDALIZED you would touch me. I know you're my WIFE but as my wife you tried to sleep with me to lock me into marriage and I was disgusted by how fucked up and cruel you were so I put you to sleep. Do NOT strip me, don't even look me up and down. I don't have lust or any particular romantic feelings for you, it's not like I'm abashed of sex as I AM an adult who got married and know the fucked up palace shit of behind closed doors. BUT I am repulsed by the idea of being near you, especially naked and sharing that experience with YOU agh, so I Am going to continously insist on Being chaste. Maybe one day I'll want to rail someone, like you said when I feel "love" for someone or whatever maybe... but lmao not your awful ass
Also tantai jin, seeing a demon kiss qingyu: huh... evil powers cool I should eat her. It'd be nice if I could eat humans for power too. Huh... that kind of looks enjoyable? Maybe I'll try making out with someone I don't dislike. (Thinks about his wife who feeds him and would die for him, but there's baggage so he just moves on)
A few eps later: actually... like... would it be Too Fucked up? If I just... DID make out with my evil Wife who wants to kill me? I mean... a kiss is a kiss if it feels nice does it matter if we kill each other later? What if she sat on my lap! What if... I was held in her arms... <3 (no! Focus! She'll betray me! We can only have sex if she's my prisoner or something so she doesn't stab me or sell me out while we're naked!)
