I know you've made gifsets each dedicated to a single UT/DR, but what about ones highlighting the relationships various duos have?
That's a good idea! I'm also thinking about gifsets of attack patterns like I just did for the Jevil fight

hello! I haven't dropped an ask here in a while
what do you think uf bros' music tastes would be like (if they even listen to music much?)
also any hcs about small shows of sibling affection despite everything? (gotta love finding the silly softness and wholesomeness in the Edgy AU™️)
Hi hi!!! Hope ur doing well :*) 💖
Music taste...
For Sans I'd say it's probably generally more instrumental stuff than anything. I don't think he has a problem with vocals but sometimes finds them annoying or distracting if he’s trying to relax or focus on something. As for sounds, i can see him being kind of like...easily influenced by it? So like, rock, techno/edm, loud fast sorta stuff for working, and maybe softer slower stuff like jazz or dreamcore for relaxing/sleeping. I can definitely see him listening to heavy grunge specifically when he drives tho
For Papyrus, i think ive mentioned it before, but he has super weird and eclectic tastes. He kinda likes...vibes, or strange technical stuff when it comes to music more than a specific genre or sound. It's a super song by song basis, but generally fuller sounding music is preferable, stuff with a lot going on basically. He'd probably also listen to punk/grunge/garage stuff just for the aesthetic lmao
As for affectionate gestures (ur so right fr), i mean, 90% of what Papyrus does could be considered an affectionate gesture when it comes to Sans. He hems and haws about it, sure, but he cooks for him, cleans for him, tidies for him, makes sure he has nice, warm presentable clothes, moves him to more comfortable places whenever he falls asleep somewhere weird. Underground, aside from the fact he also cleaned compulsively as a nervous tic, a lot of what he did and his caretaking nature came from looking after Sans.
Even later on the surface, he still keeps track of his tastes, makes extra of any meals to keep in the fridge for any time Sans stops by, gifts him clothes or things he might like that are also useful, of course that he knows Sans wouldn't buy himself. He’s definitely the more straightforward of the two when it comes to showing how much he cares, despite his best efforts to be some measure of discreet.
With Sans, he definitely has a harder time of showing it, mostly from trying to make sure to keep a distance so he'd be certain Papyrus would be okay if something happened to him or he Fell Down. But at the same time, he can't really help it, and he doesn't want to make things harder on Papyrus in the meantime with varied success, so it's usually just in little things. Checking on him the rare occasions he’s asleep when Sans is up, patching up some of his clothes any time they get messed up in a scuffle, keeping things at least as tidy as they were/doing laundry/dishes any time Papyrus gets injured or gains LV so he doesn't have to worry as much about taking care of things.
On the surface, he slowly becomes more comfortable showing it, checking in with him, "teasing" about things to remind Papyrus to take better care of himself, making an effort to get along with his evil furballs. Every once in a blue moon he might even make some sort of gesture, getting him a special gift of some sort, being very lowkey about it, because really, he does want Papyrus to know he cares and pays attention, and he knows he sucks at saying it.
Of course Papyrus does know, but you know how it is. They tease and prod but they really do care a lot.

I LOVE characters with opposite or "contradictory" personality traits or quirks, bc honestly nothing is completely opposed to one another, it just makes for a unique take on a possibly overused character trope. A soft-spoken and shy character who is vindictive and rude, a lone wolf stoic character who is very sensitive and easily swayed by emotion, a loud-mouthed self-absorbed character who is only ever polite and respectful to those around them.

FNaF SB / Undertale Crossover
(This is more centered around Sun and Moon, a heads-up)
I just thought of this today so it's a little rough around the edges...
The story begins after the Underground is freed, monsters now having to adjust to life in common society (them having to fight for civilian rights is achieved before the events of this crossover). Our main group of monsters (Including Toriel, Sans, Papyrus, Undyne, the lot) live in a group of apartments close to one-another (they are quite overwhelmed by the open world, so they stick together the best they can). Frisk also lives with them, getting some odd looks being walked home from school by a goat lady. A good number of tenants left due to them moving in, but they became good friends with one of their neighbors: you.
You used to work at Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizzaplex as a manager for birthday parties, making sure there was no timeslot overlap and that transitions between parties were smooth and (almost) chaos-free. You got along with the bots of the pizzaplex quite well (after getting past the whole "oh my god these guys are celebrities" deal) getting to know the Glamrocks that occasionally attend the parties and the Daycare Attendant who often gave you crap for putting so much work on yourself. One early morning, the plex burned down (on your day off, thankfully) leaving you distraught and jobless.
You turn to your neighbors for help, and Toriel helps you get an events manager position at the school she teaches at. Your co-workers aren't as interesting as the bots at the plex (shy of the common monsters who worked janitorial) but you made do. You come home late one evening after having a difficult time at work when you notice that your door is ajar. On high alert, you search your apartment and find a 7- to 8-foot robot hunched over and looking at something in your bedroom. You recognize him even before he snaps back at the sound of you clasping on to the doorframe. The Daycare Attendant (or, you guess he used to be) escaped the plex fire and found you.
Cue the onslaught of antics with Sun and Moon being deeply disturbed by how the monsters are raising Frisk. Complete with Moon and Sans stare-downs, Papyrus teaching Sun how to cook (when it actually becomes the other way around), Toriel being concerned by their certain... behaviors, and Undyne wanting to throw hands with Moon.
Again, NO idea if this makes any sense or if it even has some merit, but it's a fun thought to see these guys bouncing off each other.

Uh oh! Some BOZO decided to play UNDERTALE and UNDERTALE YELLOW at the same time (Both games FUN value was 66) and now the timeline is F*CKED (By about one year; It wasn't that long till Frisk came along)
This is the Guide to UNDERTALE ROM LEAK, mostly a frame of reference for me and you regarding this AU born from a doodle and a dream. Those who just want to see the art with no context, feel free to click the top pic and swipe down or something.
Tumblr media
A Tale of 2.5 Souls
Seems like whatever the reason Frisk went to the mountain, they ended up tailing Clover, where the game begins. Control between the 2 fallen children is split, meaning that both Frisk and Clover are free to express their quirks and personalities more.
Adding to that, NarraChara is also here, being visible to Frisk, Clover, AND the player due to more determination in the area. Frisk still has higher DT than Clover, so they're in charge of LOADing and SAVEing as well as playing leader.
Tumblr media
Prepare For Trouble, Make It Double!
Now obviously the timeline can't really be UT or UTY if all major events need to be dealt with. The universe's solution? Now every Major Character (and perhaps minor ones) are paired up with their cross game counterparts. While encounters for each monster can be seperate, eventually they will cross paths with eachother and the fallen humans.
With each section of the Underground now longer with even paired area newly connected (More on how that works later), it'd feel like even 2 player characters can't make it easy. Fortunately for a certain route, you may get some help...
Tumblr media
Kanako
To fill a void for a Certain Short Scientist, seems fate pulled a few strings, and brought a new friend back from near-death! If you don't kill any monsters during RUINS, Kanako will sense your pure hearts and join the party, acting as the Ralsei to this Diet Fun Gang.
With healing and shield magic, she'll make your journey a lot more manageble, at the cost of not being able to kill any monsters all the way until Asgore (She will still allow you to spare monsters by lowering health but if she senses a chance to kill she will block the attack and scold you for it.)
Being a much more attentive protector than the Skeleton, she'll accompany Frisk and Clover through the emotional highs and lows of their journey, and perhaps maybe...
Tumblr media
You'll find out the true reason she's helping you.
Tumblr media
Stronger Monsters
For the characters of the 2 timelines being destined to meet, it is also true that destiny will point into blocking your path. For the Major Battles at least, you'll have to fight both of them at the end of each paired areas. An example being meeting North Star in Wild East only for Starlo's betrayal being calling Undyne to hunt you during Waterfall.
Expect combo attacks, fused soul modes, and complex strategies when facing the duel bosses. Some might even compromise Kanako from assisting. No fight has the same solution as the UT and UTY fights (except maybe Papyrus and Martlet), so be prepared and stay determined!
So have fun while you can, won't you? It's not likely you will get these games together again. You wouldn't waste this once-in-a-while experience just to do something you'll regret.
You wouldn't waste it just to see what happens...
...right?...

I think a lot about the Concept of ‘choices that matter’ in video games. Like, in terms of what it is that makes a choice ‘really matter’, what do we perceive as a choice that matters or has a consequence, how do different games with different amounts of branching or non-branching storylines play with those ideas…  Especially because Undertale is one of my favorite games of all time, and it has often been hyped as ‘a game where your choices REALLY matter’ and… honestly, I dunno if all of this hype was fully conducive to Undertale.  Because the way it handles the concept of Video Game Choices is actually a lot more interesting and complex than that simplistic descriptor makes it seem.
Because Undertale actually has a lot of choices that ‘don’t really matter’! Lots of dialogue choices and silly little decisions that on a first playthrough seem like they’re some sort of moral choice or a branching plotline but end up always leading to basically the same result regardless of what you do!
Tumblr media
And the game doesn’t really try to hide the fact that these choices are kinda 'Fake'. I mean, on a first playthrough a player might assume there’s gonna be some Massive Consequences for picking the ‘wrong’ drink on Undyne’s date, but the game’s narrative expects for there to be multiple playthroughs and pretty much every Choice that Doesn’t Matter is peppered with that Undertale brand of wacky character-focused humor that inherently makes the moment memorable. Papyrus leading Undyne straight to you no matter what you do is basically a cross-timeline running gag.
Tumblr media
On some level I see this as a sort of gag that serves as meta-commentary about the expectations around Choices That Matter in Video Games. As in, a lot of games have their Moral Choices happen in clearly easily marked ‘this is a Moral Choice!’ moments within the story, while the actual gameplay (and any violence the player might cause as part of said gameplay) is basically entirely divorced from any element of narrative-branching and doesn't effect the story at all. Undertale basically entirely inverts this dynamic; the most important factor for which Route you’re own is how you handle your FIGHTs, and what seems like clearly-marked and obvious Moral Choices are just goofy insubstantial minor changes in dialogue.
Tumblr media
But also… there is also a level where you must ask yourself ‘what does it mean when we say that these choices Don’t Matter’. I mean, it’s not like they didn't change anything about the game, the Player still made the character say that other thing, the choice probably led to an alternate piece of dialogue, probably a joke with a call-back at the end of the game… The line between a one-off joke and an actual story-changing moment can be a little blurry if you look at it too deeply.
Tumblr media
For example, near the end of the Waterfall part of the game, the Player is given the choice to save Monster Kid even at the risk of having to face down Undyne.
Tumblr media
Pretty much anyone who isn’t deliberately trying to be an asshole is going to rush to save them and obviously that includes the Pacifist Route Players. But you can actually leave Monster Kid to die without it 'mattering' in the sense that it wouldn't divert you from the Pacifist Route. Undyne saves them instead of you, and ends up with slightly less HP for her battle (which might Matter for Runs when you try and FIGHT her but obviously not in Pacifist Runs) and… by the end of the game, during the extremely happy True Pacifist Ending, they still clearly remember that you abandoned them and are upset by it.
Tumblr media
So… does saving Monster Kid ‘matter’ or not? On one hand, choosing not to save them mostly just changes a few lines of dialogue but… these lines of dialogue kinda recontextualize this happy ending and the Player’s actions in general. Despite the True Pacifist Ending otherwise portraying the Player/Frisk as a kind-hearted and brave hero... they still did this undeniably cowardly (and perhaps even cruel) act to one of their friends .
Was running away and leaving Monster Kid to die a brief but significant moment of weakness that the Player regrets and has cost them what could’ve been the start of a lovely friendship? Or is that simply that being a True Pacifist was always more of a matter of pragmatism rather than ideals? Were they only acting as a Pacifist to get that promised 'Best Ending', and only Monster Kid has an inkling they are not as heroic or kind as everyone thinks they are?
And then there’s the Snowman ‘quest’.
Tumblr media
A free healing item given early in the game, with your mission being to carry it along in your inventory for as long as you can without ever consuming it. The only reward you will ever see from it is a few lines of dialogue…
Tumblr media
But for many, it is more than enough of an incentive to preserve the Snowman’s Piece. You can do whatever you want with the Snowman without it ‘mattering’ in terms of Ending or consequences. You could carry it through all of your adventures with care and kindness... or you could eat it while he can’t see you and then go back to him and tell him that you ‘lost’ it and then get another piece and eat that as well, you could eat it right in front of his face, horrifying him.
Tumblr media
And much like with Monster Kid, you can STILL get the True Pacifist Ending after doing that, all that would change is a few optional pieces of dialogue from the Snowman…
Tumblr media
And a total recontextualization of the Player’s behavior and the ending. The Snowman sees the Player as a cruel and heartless person who is just pretending to be good so they can be liked - the way they acted with this immobile, powerless Snowman who could do nothing for them and their reputation reveals their true self. And he says their friends will realize that too one day...
Doing a True Reset on the Pacifist Ending is, by definition, a (almost) consequence-free action and yet it changes future Pacifist Routes immeasurably. Turning the Player into a Hypocrite doing the exact same thing they were trying to stop Flowey/Asriel from doing - trapping all of their friends into a time-loop so they can play with them forever while never actually letting them to enjoy freedom on the surface, simply because they are not willing to move on or put their friends' wishes and agency above their own. Nothing in the game actually changes, not one character can even suspect that you did something like that, and yet for the Player - this choice makes the entire Meaning of the game flip on its head.
Even the most famous and heavily-toted Big Consequence in the whole game - selling your soul to Chara after completing a Murder Route… mostly what it does is just… recontextualize the ending of the Game.
Tumblr media
As a game, ‘Undertale’ is very much about the ways in which a Player engages with a game can radically recontextualize it. The huge chasm of difference between the Pacifist and Muder Routes is just the most literal example of it. But, in a way, even the tiny little Dialogue Options - where the lack of real choice and consequences is Obviously a Joke - matter. Because of the way they can recontextualize the Player Character’s behavior.
Tumblr media
(Okay, maybe not this one, but hear me out…)
Do you trust Papyrus to not betray you, even after you spied on him with Undyne?
Tumblr media
Do you have the integrity to admit you forgot something or got it wrong even when there’s no consequences for just lying about it?
Tumblr media
Are you a hypocrite for trying to get Alphys to be truthful with Undyne only to then immediately turn around and lie to Undyne yourself?
Tumblr media
None of these choices matter for the ending, some of them don’t even get, like, a call-back joke or anything, but… if you are engaged in this story as a narrative, if you are invested in these characters as if they were people, if you are honestly trying to be the best person you can be, if you are trying to self-reflect at the way you approach this game… even the silliest little dialogue option can suddenly be imbued with deep implications and you can make them matter.
Undertale is one of the best demonstrations of this concept, but this is absolutely not exclusive to it. For example….
Tumblr media
‘Ace Attorney’ is pretty much as far away as you can get from a ‘branching narrative’ within the video game sphere. It is a heavily-linear Visual Novel where 70% of the time it won’t even let you talk to random characters at anything but the exact order it expects you to and any ‘Bad Endings’ are basically just glorified Game Over Screens. (... because this is the Internet and something something piss on the poor, I should probably specify that I am talking about ‘Ace Attorney’ because I love Ace Attorney and these are neutral descriptions of the game and not complaints. There’s nothing wrong with a game being linear.)
If there’s any Dialogue Choice in AA, it’s generally a very basic ‘right answer-wrong answer’ choice between Progress and a Penalty, or a total non-choice that just gets you to the same final result regardless. Except… Well… as we just talked about, getting to the same final result doesn’t necessarily mean a choice is ‘meaningless’, does it?
There’s actually a lot of great storytelling moments where Ace Attorney, despite its otherwise strict linearity, uses this exact sort of recontextualizing mindset I’ve talked about with Undertale to make choices with some really powerful emotional impact…. Even if technically, the ending is the same ending. It can be something as basic as ‘even if picking this Wrong Answer doesn’t get me a penalty, it still embarrassed my character and disappointed my friends/rivals and thus I feel bad for picking it’. Consequences as recontextualizing your character as more incompetent than they should’ve come across at that moment.
And then there’s moments like the iconic ending of ‘Justice for All’. That moment before Franziska bursts into the Courtroom with the case-making evidence and saves the day. The moment where it seems like Phoenix really is gonna have to pick between protecting his best friend and carrying out a rightful sentence.
Tumblr media
The player gets to pick between the two options, but Phoenix never gets to say his choice out loud before Franziska comes running in... and yet… he, and the player, still made that choice. Even if no one ever has to experience the consequences of your choice, even if the rest of the world has no idea what Phoenix Wright would’ve chosen if the Miracle hadn’t happened, we know what we picked and that knowledge of the choice matters. Because of how we feel about this choice and what it says about our interpretation of Phoenix… and about us.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There’s also a bit of this ludonarrative device in ‘The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures’. During “The Adventures of the Runaway Room”, when you investigate the Omnibus for the second time and start finding things that… don’t quite fit together. When you’re finally starting to make progress with proving McGilded’s innocence, while also maybe starting to notice that something is… wrong with these pieces of evidence.
Tumblr media
The unchanging linear narrative of the game is that Ryunosuke does eventually realizes McGilded's trickery, puts truth ahead of victory in court and yet, despite his effort and good intentions - the case still ends with a false Not Guilty verdict. And yet, the Player has the choice to... tweak the details.
There are several points where Ryunosuke can object, where he can call out the inconsistencies even though they help his case, where he can support Van Zieks in his accusations of tempered evidence... or he can not. Not necessarily intentionally misleading the Court as much as subconsciously trying to ignore the inconsistencies in the name of trusting his client.
Tumblr media
And yet… in the end it doesn’t matter. Maybe Susato calls out the inconsistency instead of him, maybe Van Zieks does, maybe it remains uncontested but... no matter what you do, the case will end with a Not Guilty verdict (I mean, I guess you can deliberately fail the game but that will not progress the plot), McGilded doesn’t seem like he held a grudge (in the few minutes he had left to live), and a few cases later - Ryunosuke would always be punished for his part at this false verdict.
Tumblr media
So it doesn’t really matter what Ryunosuke did back then? Does it matter if he did his best and called out every single inconsistencies or if he kinda half-assed it until he (and the Player) had to? He’s still going to suffer the same consequences down the line. And yet….
And yet, I think there’s something so powerful about giving us that option. About knowing that Ryunosuke, and we, did try and do something about McGilded's dirty tricks- even if it didn’t work. Or alternative, knowing that there was more that Ryunosuke and us could’ve done even if it was not nearly enough. Even if in the eyes of the game and the British Justice system there is no difference, the fact that we know what did and what we could’ve done can radically change the way the player feels about all of the later scenes concerning the truth about McGilded’s trial. It can radically change the way the player interpret Ryunosuke’s feelings about it as well.
Tumblr media
Because even though the game itself keeps playing along with the same script regardless, that trial had irrevocable consequences for the Player.

I like thinking about their more canon adjacent dynamic (character wise)
MINI ANALYSIS TIME
Because while I love the soft interpretations, even WITH those let’s be real; that’s not how they’d act off the bat
Horror would be extremely judgmental (fair) and hate Dust for what he did. He’d despise him and probably be very passive aggressive. Making jabs and making his disdain apparent when they have to interact. I think getting a read on Dust is also difficult and would piss Horror off. Horror is unpredictable and has a sadistic streak, if he was mad or manic and had Dust in a corner he’d have no qualms about manhandling the guy. (And Dust probably wouldn’t do much to stop him.)
Meanwhile, Dusttale’s creator was asked once how Dust may feel if he met Horror, to which they said he feels bad for Horror. He likes him, sees him as someone who went through something horribly undeserved. In my mind Dust is somewhat protective of Horror.
I interpret these clashing of dynamics as Horror’s just utter disdain for this guy, and Dust’s resigned acceptance of Horror’s judgment. He’d agree with him if he were to judge himself, but I think a part of him wants Horror’s approval. He doesn’t EVER expect to get it, but Horror is….
While he’s seen hell, he’s almost a less tormented version of Dust himself. Deep down they are the same. Horror has suffered greatly, but even still hasn’t hit the deep end dust has, and I think he’d want to protect that sort of innocence he’s granted. One could think of it as him protecting a piece of himself he himself has already sacrificed. And wanting APPROVAL from him, wishing to be forgiven, craving that small piece of validation or understanding as he tries to reconcile with himself.
Horror’s formed opinion makes sense, he agrees with it, and simply wishes he disagreed, that he could have proof of himself being a FRACTION worthy of forgiveness or understanding.
The judge in both of them has both formed an opinion of the other, and they happen to differ greatly. Horror sees Dust as an abuser and Dust sees Horror as a victim.
I like to imagine that, while reluctantly thrown into the same general vicinity, Horror would grow to be more understanding (again if we are going with a PROGRESSIVE plot line) and come to understand that, yes, he wasn’t WRONG, but there is nuance to the situation. They both have a very grim understanding of what it’s like to be trapped. I think he has the capacity to understand Dust better if he was given time. His hands aren’t clean after all, and he knows what it’s like to be forced into a situation and to feel backed into a drastic decision. He knows what it’s like to lose your autonomy and to feel your mind break itself under pressure.
I think the simple fact that Dust wouldn’t TRY to change his mind or justify himself would be part of why Horror could come to understand him. He’s devestated by his actions, he is by no means a sadist.
Horror coming to understand Dust and sort of reconcile/forgive him I think would be rather BIG for Horror, especially if you factor in other situations he now has to consider. (For example, his Undyne and her drastic attempt at freeing the undergroud…) reconciling his OWN arguably cruel decisions he has made with pure intentions, when he feels there’s no other choice (like his Papyrus and tricking him into doing something so outside of his beliefs, to protect him)
It would also be healing for Dust to get that reconciliation with Horror because again…Horror’s opinion actually may MATTER.
And in the same way that Dust may see Horror as a sort of person to be protected from further harm, Horror would probably pick up on all of the VERY bad habits Dust has that (in my observation at least) are EXTREMELY similar to his own habits/past habits (isolation, obsession, deprivation, paranoia, bringing harm to self etc) and I could see him being sensitive towards those and trying to prevent it worsening (it’s a sore subject💔) Horror is shown to prioritize taking care of those he cares about, even when he’s a bit mad, and he has the capacity to grow an understanding for someone he doesn’t like initially :))
I think they have potential to be VERY good for one another, Horror (while being fucked up) encourages (and maybe forces) better habits and actually has an opinion that matters to Dust, and Dust is inclined to be VERY loyal (Horror needs someone to show him loyalty.) to anyone who cares to give him the time of day, as it’s far beyond what he’d expect, and he’s got the sympathy/protective streak towards Horror as an actual in character detail.
And from there it would be wonderful to explore their dynamic in whatever way you like to interpret it🤫💥
I could go on but I’ll stop here, if you read this all CONGRATS!!!
Share your thoughts I love it

i forget if you ever said before, but how much of handplates was planned from the beginning and what was added as you went?
Almost all of it pretty early on, haha. Well, at least the main plotpoints...
I knew Sans would push Gaster into the core (not exactly how but I knew it'd happen)
I knew the brothers would stay with Asgore for a while afterwards to adjust to normal life
Knew the brothers would slowly grow and mature into their canon forms while aligning with canon itself (befriending Undyne and Alphys etc) although not the specifics of it
Knew there'd be a murder run that'd get reset and a pacifist run after
Knew Gaster would come back (not exactly how) and the brothers would have a final confrontation where they'd show they were adults now with the strength to face and fight him/their trauma and they'd eventually convince him to come back and try again
I knew a lot of the main points but not how to tie them together exactly or their exact execution, that came as I went along. As an example, shots of Asgore with the brothers were VERY early in my sketchbook... you can see me sketching out some of the layouts for the one with Gaster trying to get Papyrus to kill something at the bottom.
Tumblr media
I was drawing Asgore from memory, that's why he looks off, haha. There are also sketches both for Gaster facing off with the monster (although I hadn't worked out exactly what the monster would be at that point), them back in the lab/finding the drill in Gaster's house, and Sans sassing Gaster on the same page about ten pages later in my sketchbook. I also knew that World Revolution was set in the Handplates timeline when I did it but I didn't tell anyone since it'd be huge spoilers at the time lol.
Tumblr media
So you can see I was working out multiple parts of the story at the same time, haha. Some of my one-shot ideas got scrapped or reworked, but the basic shape of it stayed intact throughout. A lot of sections had a lot of wiggle room as they came to me - them in the lab, them with Asgore, them in their house, them on the surface, that kind of thing. So what happened during those times and how long I'd spend there I didn't know for sure, I just knew the basic shape of the story and where I was going eventually. It was an interesting way to do it! I had a lot of freedom to run with any sudden idea for the most part, but I also always had a direction and plan for where I was going.
I had absolutely no idea it'd be this long or take this long to finish though lol.

THEORY TIME AGAIN
Tumblr media
I feel like no matter what route you do.
Papyrus holds back on you.
Because he wants to be your friend.
And he may hold back on Undyne as well.
Because Sans is the hardest boss in the game and Papyrus is supposed to be 20 times stronger than him.
Yet, he is quite easy to defeat.
And although Undyne says he's "super freaking tough", he may be holding back on her as well because she is his friend.
AND
Another thing I want to point out is that Papyrus isn't an innocent baby.
Papyrus is chaotic and smart, and only sometimes a little stupid.
Like, Papyrus can be a little thick headed at times and say stupid shit. But he's actually pretty fucking smart.
He was able to manipulate Undyne to becoming friends with Frisk, he uses very intelligent language, and he knows a lot of the things he cares about.
Also, Papyrus is unhinged. During the date with Undyne, the dude literally throws himself our the window and Undyne states "he usually sticks the landing" which means this is something he has done before.
Don't ask me to use a better example because there is no better example.
Papyrus isn't a innocent baby.
He's a grown ass skeleton who is chaotic and smart but stupid at the same time.
AND WHILE WE'RE ON THE SUBJECT OF PAPYRUS
Please stop portraying Sans as an overprotective brother who gets mad whenever Papyrus gets flirted with or something.
Please.
That's so old.
Papyrus is a grown skeleton and Sans shouldn't give a shit. Even if they live together.
The dude has his own life and Sans shouldn't be so uptight about his brother.
That has just always made me so mad.
Also I think Papyrus should be allowed to swear.

from studying undertale (re: panicking while running from undyne) i have to say that its softness and kindness and sheer emotional weight is made more effective when paired with the fact that its so sarcastic and funny. obviously sans and especially papyrus are a good example here. papyrus follows 'dont kill and dont be killed' to a t bc that doesnt mean he cant be Fucking Brutal i cannot tell you how many times ive been owned by him. and yet there's moments where he casually slips in that youre his good friend. the moment you see the core when his expression crumples? when you try to call him one more time after talking to him before the core and he yells 'you don't have to say goodbye!!!'?all of these are made more effective by him looking me in the eye and saying things like 'it's undynes house. you know, the one with a skeleton in front'

Skeleton's kid is playing with a small ball. They wants their dad to play with them so they throw him the ball. The ball goes straight in the eye socket.
Undertale Sans - Ouch. He's dead. He lays on the floor like a dying sea star and stays there. The kid panics, thinking they just killed their dad, and runs to Uncle Papyrus, crying in terror. Papyrus sighs, grabs Sans by the legs, and shakes it like a coconut until the ball comes out before dropping him back on the floor and going back to his cooking.
Undertale Papyrus - He lets go a loud painful "NYEEEEH" before frantically shaking his head to get it out. The kid is laughing hysterically, thinking their dad is just feeling silly when he's actually in pain. Once the ball finally gets out, he falls on his knees, out of breath. He needs a second. The kid picks the ball back and throws it in his eye socket again. RIP Papyrus.
Underswap Sans - He's so annoyed right now, and humiliated. He tried to get it back but his arm is too short. So he walked to Undyne's place so she can take it out, having to suffer through Alphys mockery all the time it lasted. He then went home and faceplants in his bed and didn't move from there before the next day.
Underswap Papyrus - Just the thought of having to put his hand inside is skull is too traumatizing for poor Honey who decides to pass out to protect himself lol. Blue takes advantage of this to grab the ball and squeeze it out. Honey wakes up as Blue is lecturing his kid about making their dad pass out for no reason.
Underfell Sans - It's not glorious but he starts to loudly curse, screaming dozens of insults as he's trying to fetch the ball back. He's quite relieved when he finally manages too. That's it until his kid, very amused, starts to repeat everything he just said to the exact word. S/O is so going to kill him.
Underfell Papyrus - Urgh. Without blinking, he picks the ball out of his socket. Actually, it's not a ball, it's a knife. Uh. How did it get there? Oh, that's why his eye was itchy! Anyway. He throws the knife away and puts his hand back into his socket to take out the ball. The kid stares in awe. How many things can they possibly put inside his socket? They're definitely trying to see as soon as he's sleeping on the couch.
Horrortale Sans - He stays frozen on the couch. If he doesn't move, it doesn't hurt. As he just stays perfectly still, the kid starts to get worried and goes ask Uncle Willow for help. The only problem is that it hurts, and Oak definitely doesn't want his brother's hand inside his head. As soon as Willow enters the room, he starts to growl as a warning. Willow pins him on the floor and as Oak is trashing on the floor trying to bite him, he takes out the ball. Oak immediately stops moving after that. Oh. It feels better. Willow calls him a drama queen on the way out.
Horrortale Papyrus - The kid stays speechless as Willow lectures them while fishing the ball inside his own eye socket. It's clearly painful as poor Willow won't stop growling or whining through his lecture, but he's determined to get the ball out, which happens eventually. The kid is quite impressed.
Swapfell Sans - He casually uses his gun to lift the ball inside his eye sockets and picks it up more easily. S/O enters right at that moment and starts to panic thinking Nox is trying to shoot himself. Well, they are even madder learning why he's doing that. Did he think about the example he's giving to the kid? Well. No, clearly, he didn't.
Swapfell Papyrus - He has no resistance to pain whatsoever and starts to high-pitched screams while rolling on the floor to get it out. The kid is laughing so hard and asking him to do it again. The funniest part is that the ball comes out eventually, but Rus doesn't see it and keeps screaming in agony for twenty minutes before realizing it came out. Oh. He's fine now.
Fellswap Gold Sans - He's so mad he didn't manage to dodge this. He's the general of the royal guard, what if it was a bullet? He picks out the ball mumbling to himself then suddenly throws it at full force into the kid's head, who starts crying. Uh. So he didn't lose his reflexes. Good to know. Ah shit, the kid, he forgot he was a dad for a minute. He comes to comfort them lol.
Fellswap Gold Papyrus - Poor Coffee is in a fetal position on the floor, crying in pain. It hurts too much to take it off so he decides it was best to just stay there, hugging his kid like some puppy to comfort himself until Wine comes home and saves him. Wine finds him asleep on the floor. The ball rolled out of his head by itself eventually.

Papyrus And Selective Personalities: Every Example Of It So Far
An often overlooked character trait of Papyrus is selective personalities. What are selective personalities?
Tumblr media
By selective personalities I essentially mean that Papyrus changes the way he acts around certain people, specifically his brother.
Tumblr media
Now why this is could be lots of different reasons, however im not interested in discussing the specific intricacies of why he does it, but rather when he does it. So without further a do, i present to you, every example of Papyrus and his selective personalities!
What They’re Going To Do To Us
When with Sans Papyrus says that he doesn’t know whats going to happen after we’re captured.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
However despite this when he’s away from Sans he shows a clear understanding of what will happen to us.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ice Cream Or Snow?
During one of the phone calls in which both Papyrus and Sans are present Papyrus seems to confuse ice cream and snow.
Tumblr media
When Papyrus is by himself though he shows to be perfectly capable of knowing what snow is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Papyrus also is shown to know about ice-cream and considers it separate from snow.
Tumblr media
Hotland Emotional Aura, Is It Negative Or Positive?
Papyrus claims to love Hotland in regards to MTT.
Tumblr media
This doesn’t add up though, as he directly states later on that he dislikes Hotland.
Tumblr media
That Giant Ball
At first glance it seems as if Papyrus doesn’t know what the sun is as he doesn’t seem to recognize it when with the gang.
Tumblr media
However when alone he shows a pretty clear understanding of the sun and wind.
Tumblr media
This doesn’t seem to just be Papyrus knowing about the sun but not what it looks like either, since he knows that it shines on your skin, and he also knows about the moon, which no other monsters really comment on.
Tumblr media
Has His Bro REALLY Never Seen A Human?
Sans claims that Papyrus has never met a human, this is also backed up by Papyrus not recognizing Frisk as one when meeting them with Sans.
Tumblr media
Despite this Papyrus clearly understands human anatomy and culture.
Tumblr media
His knowledge of the surface world (seen in the previous entry) further support the idea that he knows about humans as well.
Labradory...?
When calling Papyrus (while Sans is present) in front of Alphys’ lab you’ll get some dialogue that suggests that Papyrus doesn’t know what a lab is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After Sans leaves though you are able to get this dialogue inside the lab.
Tumblr media
Papyrus clearly knows what a lab is here, as he mentions it by name and knows it involves science.
Puzzles
When dealing with Sans and Papyrus’ japes Papyrus treats his puzzles as if they’re the best around.
Tumblr media
When his brother isn’t around he shows a strong sense of self-awareness in this regard though. He calls his own previous puzzles “awful”.
Tumblr media
We know he means this too since he has a book on “advanced puzzle construction for critical minds” and critiques and offers professional advice on everyone else’s puzzles through out the game.
Tumblr media
Grease Hell
Normally Papyrus rants about his dislike for Grillby’s.
Tumblr media
However there’s an exception, Undyne will begin to state her fondness for the place, and Papyrus lies and goes along with it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Papyrus, What’s Your Favorite Food?
During the Undertale Q&A when with Sans Papyrus claims that he doesn’t know his own favorite food.
Tumblr media
This seems to be something he clearly shares with his close friends though as Flowey (his best friend) not only knows this but wonders why “no one else knows the answer to this stupid question”.
Tumblr media
Off On A Vacation...
During the King Papyrus ending Papyrus and Sans will talk to you about how the underground has been. With Sans present Papyrus claims that they’re all just on vacation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However when alone he specifically asks us not to tell Sans what he’s about to say.
Tumblr media
He then goes on to express remorse over the death of his beloved friends.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Going On A Vacation
Papyrus and Undyne talk about going on a vacation together.
Tumblr media
However Papyrus pretty instanly switches up afterwards and says that he would never go on a vacation for any reason.
Tumblr media
Fl..who..ry?
Papyrus and Undyne talk about Papyrus’ “flower friend” and when asked about him Papyrus says this.
Tumblr media
However he clearly hesitates and lies here. He confirms this afterwards too.
Tumblr media
We know Papyrus knows Floweys name too because he started the “Flowey Fan Club”.
Tumblr media
Closing Thoughts
This post wasn’t necessarily meant to be an in-depth analyzation like my previous one (and future ones in the works) it’s more so supposed to list and acknowledge the existence of Papyrus and his lying/selective personalities as I often bring it up with people not really knowing what I’m talking about. It’s unfortunate that this side of Papyrus isnt explored however, as it’s a very interesting trait and one that deserves more analyzing. I hope that the main take away from this post is that Papyrus is one of, if not, the most in-depth character in Undertale, and I beg you to PLEASE not water him down or prevent yourself from looking into his lore. With that said, always remember, Papyrus knows.

Hello, I have a question you mention that Papyrus not knowing anything is fanon and not canon. Im not saying your wrong but tbh i can't recal moments from the game that would prove that statment. But i also haven't play Undertale in a while and was wondering if you could give examples from the game.
Heheh, well, it's hard to say exactly what papyrus does know, but there are indeed hints he knows more than many people, especially early on in the fandom, realized. Like.... there were people who thought he doesn't know what death or murder is (and maybe there still are, though I shudder to think of it)... despite having multiple lines of dialogue that disprove this. Anyway! Evidence Papyrus knows more than he lets on include the following:
He refers to Mettaton having eyes in a call you can get well before the fight with Mettaton that reveals his EX form:
Tumblr media
And the jetpack phone all the way back in freaking waterfall
He references the game having multiple endings in True Pacifist:
Tumblr media
As well as other game mechanics like repeating dialogue or the keyboard
his nerves here and his really specific denial of you witnessing his first conversation with undyne, which implies he is aware you were in fact there
and then of course there's this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and plenty more that are more ambiguous, like hints about the amalgamates (be nice to people made of strange materials), trying to make a puzzle resemble his face (from a perspective he shouldn't be able to view?), or even possibly not knowing what happens when you get to the capital because well... a lot of things could happen when you get there. It's not as certain as any other monster might think.
Even if you don't really consider those last ones, Papyrus obviously hints at much of the same stuff about the game as his brother. It's just that they're almost all in his phone calls, which many people never do... So while it's maybe not canon that he has a vast amount of meta knowledge, it's definitely fanon that he's super naive to everything or just outright stupid. That's not true in the slightest.
Anyway, for even more Papyrus facts and musings, I have a few more links: a compilation of facts made by @insanelyadd, and this old post about mysterious papyrus things--though note that some of the links no longer work. You may also want to check out my undertale meta tag, which is a catch-all for interesting headcanons and analysis of the game, including some of papyrus' oddities.
All screenshots I posted above come from @undertale-encyclopedia, which is a truly invaluable resource for all the game's dialogue. I definitely recommend checking it out if you ever need a refresher ^^

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Guess I'm back briefly to tumblr for this.
I'm well aware that there have been some things flying around about me. That I support proshipping, frans, incest, racism - a whole bunch of things. Normally I don't give these things the time of day because who wants to waste time chasing down every little troll? The internet is the internet. I myself am not, and I have not done anything, that could support these claims.
I'm offering these screenshots to show you all that, despite attempting to write the mc of 'Lane 66' as ambiguous as possible so that she can be as close to a reader insert as possible - I still see her as her own character instead of a blank slate. 66 has more so become a chance to step into Charlie's shoes and experience the world through her than a true reader insert.
There's an important distinction I think that needs to be made. That between 'proshipper' and 'problem-shipper.' The latter is, unfortunately, also shortened to 'proshipper' despite them not being the same. A 'problem-shipper' is someone who supports problematic relationships. Underage, incest, and the like. A 'proshipper' is generally known as someone who supports any pairing EXCEPT 'problem-ships.' So you'll see a 'proshipper,' by this definition, support pairs like SansxGrillby, or MuffetxUndyne, etc. I'm the type of 'proshipper' that supports the pairings that are NOT problematic. So enjoy your GasterxAsgore or TorielxAlyphys or PapyrusxDogaressa fics. I'll support your right as a fan to love what you love as long as it doesn't hurt anyone.
I'd also like to address some creative liberties I have taken. Specifically - my writing of Undyne as bi instead of lesbian. Are y'all aware that Sans is canon asexual? You wouldn't think it based off the fandom. That's because people change things for a fanfic. Shifting something doesn't mean you're disrespecting the og character. If I had written Undyne as straight, I could see the problem. But I didn't. So where's the issue? Undyne, in my story, is still together with Alphys in a loving relationship. Yes, I've given her a crush on ADULT papyrus. Said crush only came to be AFTER he became a fully mature adult. Again - where is the issue here?
Speaking of issues - where is the evidence for any of these negative statements against me or my works? Please, present them. I want to see examples alongside these claims. Give me proof. I am more than happy to admit when I have done wrong and make apologies as needed. I am not afraid to own up to my mistakes. So again, please - show me screenshots from my stories or anything else that can prove that I'm a problem-shipping, incest, frans, and racist-supporting person. Prove me wrong about myself.
In fact - come to me directly on Discord. I'm OolongTeacup. I would love to have a conversation instead of some shitshow on tumblr, X, what have you.
Thank you and have a lovely day <3
