the idea: I love salmon! I should make salmon

the problem: grandma doesn't like fish. if I bake salmon in the oven, it will probably make the whole house smell like fish. surely there's a way to cook food outdoors...

the solution: well, we don't have a grill. but we DO have a burn barrel! and I have to go out and burn trash at least once a week, so I guess the next time I go to burn the trash, I'll wrap the salmon up REAL good with some spinach and feta in some foil and put it on the ash guard that goes on top of the barrel and let it get cooked. trash gets burned, house remains fishless, intercal gets his salmon. win-win-win!

Had a weird Hollow Knight-related dream a couple days ago, so I decided to draw a major scene I remembered from it dgsgshf

#hollow knight #little ghost #hk ghost #the knight #hk hornet #hornet #alright. as of writing these tags it's been a week since the original dream so! let's see what i remember dgsgsgf #i was playing a game. which was a sequel to hollow knight ((Not silksong though))#there was some new sort of divine infection in hallownest and hornet had asked ghost to investigate it. they ended the last one after all!#the red glowy spike gate thingy is what you jumped into to enter the 'infected' areas #though it actually led directly to a hub world type of place. which was kinda like an expanded base for the grimm troupe?#more like an entire lair instead of a camp. also some greek gods were there for some reason lmao. they had their own special rooms too #so sidenote but- new headcanon that there are grimm troupe members named ares athena artemis &... venus lmao. not aphrodite for some reason #also monomon was there?? i think??? except she was cooking????? she had a sidequest to deliver something to someone though i dunno hdgfhdgh #i remember going back to the grimm troupe lair a couple times throughout my 'playthrough'#anyway. the 'infection' this time around was more of a glitchy physical corruption thing? rather than a mind corruption.#though there were still aggressive enemies to fight. but i remember getting a map from cornifer early on and he was. probably infected #i think part of his body was covered in electricity or something? so he wasn't fully visible? but he was still acting normally #there was also a moth who was the seer but then later wasn't the seer (but was still the same moth) dghgdhf. i delivered stuff to her #that glowing white wall thing in the drawing was like a one-way gate. you could only cross it from the other side and ghost came from there #i guess things looped back up somehow i dunno ghdgfhgf #anyway. ghost's red eyes. those are significant! those happened while i was walking through a corridor. it had pools of shallow water #(shallow enough to just walk through) and also creatures that were lightseeds but red.the implication was that they were full of Blood lmao #and as i went along killing them--as one does--as i walked through the hall. they started turning the water red too #there was also narration about this as it was happening ashdgsf. specifically the narrator said the water turned red before it actually did #ghost's eyes slowly turned red too. but aside from that they were fine! since. they're the player character and the player is perfectly fin #BUT. when they encountered hornet again. she thought they were infected. and that she lost the only family she had left </3 #she didn't attack though. instead she just jumped into the red spike gate without a word. decided to try to fix everything herself #but eventually you'd encounter her again down below and she'd fight you. didn't actually get to that in the dream though #aand i'm out of tags </3 i wanted to talk about what i'd do to make this make more sense as an au or something now that i'm awake but. :c

Fishman at lest reproduce like humans do because Oda said they’re mammals.

Oh, I'd go a step further and say fishmen and mermaids are really just humans considering they can have children with humans and those children can also then have children as well. Not only that whatever genetic difference that gives them fish-like adaptations is rather weak with half-fishman, half-human hybrids almost always look completely human. By the time that child has another child with a human all fish traits are gone, and the only thing they seem to retain is being naturally good swimmers.

My post about their possible different ways of reproduction was mainly just a fun world building head-canon that could help explain why/how some fishmen/merfolk can have spouses and children of wildly huge sizes. Also, if some fish-men like Hody can have possess genitalia similar to his fish counterpart it's not that big a stretch to thing other fishmen/merfolk might be equally effected sometimes.

The thing is I really doubt Oda really gives much thought to how the new races he puts in his story work biologically. If he did, he'd have known that sharks have two 'penis-like' clappers, instead of being surprised by the fan who brought it up. This is in no way a dig at Oda or One Piece. It's not a story that focuses much on that aspect of the world in great detail besides what is necessary for the plot and themes and that works just fine--in fact doing more would only bog down the story with unnecessary information that wastes everyone's time.

We don't need to know how fishmen/merfolk have kids or how it's physically possible for Otohime to have such a massive husband and daughter. It's not relevant to the plot or themes and Oda's already got a long story to tell without superfluous info being brought up. Plus, he just wants to draw fun looking characters. The science of it isn't important because it's the visuals that really matter anyway.

It's really just something I thought about and tried to come up with biological reasons for because I enjoy that type of thing so much. World building is fun for me, and as someone who enjoys biology, it's fun to look at these fish-like characters and think about how they might function with more fish-like biology, then continue that onto how that might effect their culture.

I just think it's neat :)

#ask #thanks for the ask!#one piece #fishmen #merfolk #Arlong #Jinbe #Jimbe #I do find it really interesting that if they have kids with a human nearly all fish-like characteristics are lost #even in the first generation the children are barely different then regular humans except they might have a fin or gills #and the generation after that is just a good swimmer #it really sort of makes it seem like them having fish-like qualities is not actually how they are supposed to be in a way #like their dna wants to get rid of the fish traits and will do so if given the opportunity #and makes me wonder how long it would take for fishmen/mermaids to fade away #if they started to more and more have human relationships after coming to surface and integrating with humans #maybe it's because their dna retains every ancestors fish species #and since at one time they would have been regular humans #when they have a kid with a human that human ancestor is brought out more since their isn't any possible other fish ancestor #in the other parents dna #again i just find it really neat #and do wonder if two half human/fishman hybrids could end up with a more fishman looking child because of that

#had a conversation with my sister today and kept denigrating my current passion and lifestyle but like... maybe don't do that?#listen ok I've been trying to be cool my whole life #and I have failed cause at my core I am just not a chill person #shamelessly leaning into something that I like isn't something I did openly before #and honestly? it's changed me for the better #low key it's the reason I don't have a real job right now #because I've been miserable in every structured job I've had (except for maybe college teaching)#and the last conversation I had with my grandpa before he died he asked me if I was happy because that's all that mattered #and while this little shift in existence is ridiculous in the grand scheme of what I've accomplished in my life #and hustling is harder than just showing up and getting a paycheck #and however much I'm not meeting my parents' vision of my potential #I am closer to actually being able to answer his question honestly than ever before #also it led to the wild neurodivergent revelations #so being able to declare openly that I like something is already a shift #and being able to engage with people who are honestly the most open kindest group I've ever encountered?#amazing #cause I'm actually a mega loner who barely talks to people #I'm honestly so glad I got lost in the delta quadrant cause without boyager I wouldn't have come to these conclusions #so yeah I'm kinda really into Star Trek #and if you've read this I'm sure you already know how severely uncool and locked into this I am but alas I can confirm by talking inthe tags #en fin

feel like this will be a very very VERY unpopular opinion but i don't really see the chemistry between scar and fin. like yeah, they're a sexy power couple i guess, but they never really had time in the series to develop their friendship before just falling head over heels in love. and that sucks, because all the other couples got more acquaintance before they got together.

and it's really clear to me how all of the other couples seem to uplift their partner and naturally support their partner's weaknesses. like auri convinces kal to take risks, and he (mostly tries to) keep her from running into dangerous situations without thinking (he's just generally the Most devoted partner one could Ever ask for though. and the times when he goes feral for her asdfkjdfd o h m y g o d).

tyler and saedii have their incredibly horny telepathy thing going on, and they are also just the Definition of a power couple. if you look up "power couple" in the dictionary theres a picture of saedii kissing tyler while also stabbing someone and they're also playing like three incredibly convoluted strategy games at once. maker's breath.

then we have zila and nari, and although they don't get that much screen time (page time?), we can see that after the timeskip zila is much more emotive and nari seems less prone to angry outbursts. and you canNot tell me they didn't work together like that.

idk its just like. in comparison i kinda feel like scar and fin's relationship is kinda meh. and i think the fandom kinda does them a disservice by making their relationship monogamous when im like 95% sure they would both be down for a long-term polyamorous relationship.

the ending kinda just feels like it wanted every single one of the characters to get with someone? or maybe im just aroace and im missing the point *shrug* just me thoughts here

whenever i set timers to like take a nap or something or a sleep timer on spotify the time has to be either :00, :15, :30, or :45 and if it’s not i will wait until it gets to that so that when the timer goes off it is at a good looking minute

#does that make any sense #if i wanted to set a 30 min timer at 3:15 and it went to 3:16 i would wait until 3:30 #sometimes there are exceptions but MOST OF THE TIME #it’s so annoying and i hate it #like right now i was gonna set a sleep timer on spotify but my phone stayed at 2:59 am for much longer than it should have #so i turned it off and on again #and it was 3:01 am.#i was devastated #bc i was trying to organize my pictures but i was falling asleep so i decided Ok i will sleep now but now i have to WAIT #ok rant over #fin talks
