-21- Ensnare
Cogito-4 gets put on the hook. Continution of the 17/18, 15 and 19th prompts.
Cogito sighed and sad down by a plastic folding table defeated. Ikora Rey parted the mossy material covering the tent and and knocked on one of the metal support pole.
- Come in, sure - the exo made a weak gesture.
Ikora quietly sat down on a chair opposite to him, in front of the only exit, put a small box on the table and pushed it towards Cogito. He watched as she pulled out a metal cup and thermos.
He tapped the box and raised his eyebrows.
She shrugged.
He opened it hesitantly.
- A... Cake?
- Well, your scouts informed me that you have difficulty with drinking. You could have told me before, I wouldn't give you tea every time if I knew - she poured steaming liquid into the cup.
- I... Yes, well. I usually spill water all over myself if I'm not extremely careful. No cheeks, you know. Thank you.
He took out utensils from one of the boxes, forked a small bit of the pastry and started chewing it. Cheesecake with sugary dew on top. Pretty good, almost good enough to forget...
- All right. Let's face it, you didn't come here to just have a lunch. I'll admit this out right - I left 1 milion worth of glimmer of Vanguard equipment unattended and it drowned in radiolaria. Ok? And I don't have enough to pay it back.
- Why? - she looked at him from behind the cup.
- "Why?" Because I'm broke from paying these people from my own pocket, and good money, I'll admit.
- You could have just asked.
- I...! Well. I could have?
- I can send you a form. It's no different from any other Vanguard operation. You are my deputy, after all.
- Only in the system though.
- That's where you fill out forms too. And also - ouch - you really think that this is just a cruel joke on you? I do think that you are competent enough, even if politically uninvolved.
- Really? After this?
- Hmm - she took a sip of tea - actually my question "why" meant: why did you leave the equipment?
- I got a distress signal from my scouts. They were measuring the emptied radiolaria basin when they were ambushed. I lead them to a safe zone and when I returned to where I left all the gathered scaners... Well, I found where the missing radiolaria went to...
- You prioritized their safety.
- Of course I did - but I failed! I didn't predict the movements of Vex - my algorithm never failed before - they trusted me!
- But - she raised her cup at him - the algorithm failed because of the Conductor.
- Yes. But if I haven't put so much trust in it I could have had them stay with me and assist the transport.
- You'll do it next time then.
Cogito leaned back on the chair and put another bit of cake in his mouth.
- So you want me to return to the Asteroid Belt?
- Maybe even make it a patrol zone. I also have a form for that, you know.
- Traveler, Vanguard sanctioned exogeological works, I must have hit myself on a head too hard while fighting Scorn.
- Well, of course the money you'll save will go towards the fund for replacing all this equipment.
- I knew it! Oh, well. Fair enough.
He finished the cake and pointed at the box with the fork.
- Wait. Did Eva Levante make this?
- Yes, for you specifically - good?
- Of course it is. Something for this year's Festival of the Lost? For young Eido or Misraaks?
- No, no, it's for the new patrol zone vendor. There are some perks too - she smirked.

**Planet Overview: Crysalis - The Crystal Ice Caverns World** **Atmospheric Composition and Appearance from Space:** Crysalis, observed from space, resembles a swirling orb cloaked in frosty blues and silvery whites, indicative of its thick, icy atmosphere dominated by frozen water vapor and reflective ice crystals. This frozen planet, slightly smaller than Earth, features an atmosphere rich with hydrogen and nitrogen, presenting a hazy appearance from orbit. **Surface and Climate Conditions:** The planet's surface, glimpsed through breaks in the cloud cover, reveals sprawling landscapes of glittering ice and expansive crystal caverns. The caverns, some visible from orbit as vast, dark crevices, plunge deep into the crust, forming networks of reflective tunnels. These ice structures exhibit an unusual blue and purple iridescence, a result of the refractive ice layers mixing with rare mineral deposits. **Unique Geological Features:** Each cavern boasts towering columns and sharp, angular ice formations that shimmer under the weak sunlight, which penetrates the planet’s dense atmosphere irregularly, creating dazzling light shows. The surface temperatures, consistently below -180 degrees Celsius, sustain the ice’s rigid, brittle structure, creating a perpetually frozen landscape. **Meteorological Observations:** Periodic storms sweep across Crysalis, visible from orbit as bright, swirling vortexes. These storms churn the upper layers of the atmosphere, redistributing heat and particulate ice crystals in spectacular, albeit harsh, weather patterns that carve and shape the cavernous landscapes below. **Conclusion:** Crysalis presents a climatic extreme of cryogenic beauty and scientific intrigue. Its crystal ice caverns, unique atmospheric phenomena, and harsh, reflective environment offer profound insights into cryoplanetary dynamics and exogeological processes.

In the year 2157, humanity had established several colonies across the solar system. Mars, with its sprawling landscapes and potential for terraforming, had become a beacon of hope and exploration. Among the most notable landmarks on Mars was Olympus Mons, the tallest volcano in the solar system, towering over the Martian landscape like a sentinel of ancient times.
Amidst the red plains and rugged terrain of Mars, a figure stood out, resplendent in her emerald glory. Known as the Emerald Empress, Elara was a mysterious and ethereal presence. Her long, flowing red hair cascaded like flames, contrasting sharply with her piercing green eyes and the crown of green crystals that adorned her head. She was said to possess an otherworldly beauty and an aura of power that resonated with the very essence of Mars.
Elara had not always been the Emerald Empress. Born on Earth, she was a renowned scientist specializing in exogeology and astrobiology. Her passion for Mars led her to join the first wave of settlers. However, an unexpected event during an expedition to Olympus Mons changed her fate forever. A seismic disturbance revealed an ancient Martian temple buried beneath the volcano, a relic from a forgotten civilization.
Driven by curiosity, Elara entered the temple, where she discovered the crown of green crystals. As soon as she placed it upon her head, she was engulfed in a blinding green light. The crystals fused with her being, imbuing her with knowledge and powers far beyond human comprehension. She became a guardian of Mars, connected to the planet's ancient secrets and its future.
The colony on Mars thrived under her guidance. Elara used her newfound abilities to harness Mars' natural resources, leading to the creation of sustainable habitats and advanced technology. However, her presence also attracted the attention of those who sought to exploit her powers for their own gain.
Among them was Dr. Lysander Krane, a brilliant but unscrupulous scientist. Obsessed with the potential of the crystals, he devised a plan to capture Elara and extract the secrets of her power. He believed that controlling the Emerald Empress would grant him dominion over Mars and, eventually, the entire solar system.
Elara, aware of the growing threat, decided to confront Krane before he could enact his plan. The showdown took place on the slopes of Olympus Mons, where the two engaged in a battle of wits and strength. Krane's technological prowess was formidable, but he underestimated the depth of Elara's connection to Mars.
Using her ability to manipulate the planet's geological forces, Elara triggered a controlled eruption of Olympus Mons. The ground trembled and fissures opened, swallowing Krane's machinery. Green energy surged from the crystals, forming a protective barrier around Elara and repelling Krane's attacks. In a final desperate move, Krane lunged at Elara, but she unleashed a wave of energy that sent him plummeting into a newly formed chasm.
With Krane defeated, Elara stood victorious but weary. She knew that her role as the Emerald Empress was far from over. There were still mysteries to uncover and threats to face. As she gazed out over the Martian horizon, she felt a renewed sense of purpose. Mars was her domain, and she would protect it with all the strength and wisdom granted to her by the ancient crystals.
Elara, the Emerald Empress of Olympus Mons, remained a symbol of hope and resilience. Her legend grew, inspiring future generations to explore the cosmos and cherish the wonders of the universe. And so, on the tallest volcano of Mars, under the emerald glow of her crown, Elara watched over her world, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.

My exhibition, exo ̈geology.., opens next weekend at Antenna gallery in New Orleans (Opening/Vernissage: Saturday July 8th, 6-10pm). It will be up through August 6th. It includes all new work, as well as an exhibition catalogue with writing by Anne-Sophie Miclo and Burke Jam.
About the exhibition:
Exogeology, also known as planetary geology, is a field of study that uses existing knowledge of geological (earthly) features and processes to research celestial rocky bodies. It is an inherently interdependent field: the basis of understanding newly discovered planets is rooted in first having a deep knowledge of Earth. Yet, how do we distinguish what constitutes “Earth”? An estimated 48.5 tons of meteoritic material falls on the surface of our planet each day and is incorporated into local geologies. Industrial processes have altered recent and currently forming rock and ice layers; human activity has become geological, too.
exo¨geology.. entangles lunar, anthropocenic, and earthly geologies to create a de-centered understanding of place that considers the universe as a series of integrated sedimentary layers. Through the works in this exhibition, I hope to articulate the experience of looking well beneath the surface of the earth and our presence within it, in order to simultaneously reach beyond it.

Ensign JULIETTE MARIE MARCHAND was an orphan raised on a small research and agricultural colony. She soon discovered her interest in, and talent for, exogeology and exobotany, and set her sights on joining Starfleet Academy.
Upon her graduation, she got assigned to the U.S.S. Enterprise-D to further her work, studying under Keiko O’Brien.
During the encounter with, and subsequent analysis of, the Ressikan probe from Kataan, she got hit with a nucleonic beam and found herself waking up as Meribor, completely taken aback by how everyone was calling Captain Picard Kamin and why he was suddenly acting as her adoring father.
She lived a whole life— childhood, adulthood, parenthood— on Kataan, only to return to herself on Enterprise under the care of Dr. Selar.
Juliette takes the loss hard, grieving the family she finally had and the community she felt embraced by, her only reminders being Eline’s Ressikan necklace left in the probe that she constantly wears, and the Captain.
Both Deanna and Beverly, as counselor and chief medical officer, feel it would be beneficial for the two to spend more time together. Jean-Luc and Juliette feel drawn to each other, both remembering what it was like to be father and daughter and bonding over being the only two chosen to share the Ressikan culture with the world. The bridge crew takes it upon themselves to help them and support them through this, and Juliette finds herself getting that sense of family back.
She is very similar to Meribor in that she is gentle, kind, and intelligent, if a bit overly pragmatic.
Though she at first feels awkward with her newfound situation, she eventually changes her name to Picard.

fic: either by design or mistake (also on ao3)
Data still doesn't understand some aspects of human behavior. Sometimes, the humans on board don't understand his, either. Whumptober Prompt #14: Under Pressure | crush injuries + force
“What can you tell me about the settlement, Mr. Data?”
Data’s fingers zipped over his console before Captain Picard had finished speaking, queueing up the routes for the command he calculated was most likely to follow his answer to the captain. His index finger hovered over the final button.
“The structures and dwellings most closely resembled the towns of twenty-second century Bajor. The previous inhabitants possessed limited technology by Federation standards and seemed to have abandoned development of their infrastructure. We did encounter a mineral currently unlisted in any known database in several of the surrounding mineshafts. Exogeology Labs One and Two are running scans on the samples now.”
Picard made the sound Data recognized as interested, or possibly thoughtful. “Link our readouts to the labs’ scanners if you would, Data. I’d like to know more about that mineral.”
“Aye, sir.” Data tapped the button to execute the pre-set program.
“Once Commander Riker is here, we’ll begin the full debriefi—”
The turbolift doors at the rear of the bridge opened, and the voice of the commander cut the captain off.
“What the hell is he still doing here?”
Data spun his chair around to determine to whom Riker was speaking. Picard was looking at his first officer steadily. The captain did not appear to be upset at being interrupted, but a wrinkle formed between his eyebrows. Next to him, Counselor Troi wore a familiar expression Data filed under mild concern.
“What is who still doing where?” Picard asked.
Riker pointed a finger at Data. “Him.” Angry. “I believe I ordered you to sickbay, Commander,” he said turning to Data.
Captain Picard's and Counselor Troi's eyes fell to him too.
“Yes, Commander,” Data agreed. “I intend to go. However, you did not specify the exact time I should report. My shift will be completed in three hours, six minutes, forty-two seconds. It will take twenty-nine minutes, one second more for my systems to fail and require reset and maintenance. I am quite able to remain at my station.”
“Until your systems fail?” asked Counselor Troi, sitting up straight in her seat.
“Data,” said Picard. He looked between his first and second officers. “What do you mean ‘reset and maintenance’? What is this about?”
Data opened his mouth to respond, but Commander Riker spoke again.
“He didn’t tell you about nearly being split in half by a box of those rocks?” He came down the ramp and loomed over Data’s chair, scowling.
“What? Data—” Troi stood from her chair.
“I was not ‘split in half,’ Commander—”
“Will someone kindly explain what is going on here?” Picard’s voice rose over all of them.
Riker crossed his arms. “Commander Data fell into one of the mineshafts while we were down on the planet. The ground gave way – a titanium crate filled with those minerals we found took a tumble too and landed on top of him.”
Captain Picard’s eyes narrowed. “Data, is this true?”
Data cocked his head. “Of course, Captain. I have not known Commander Riker to lie unless—”
“No, Data, that’s not what I mean,” said Picard, rubbing his forehead. Agitated, Data deducted. “What – injuries did you sustain?”
Data summarized. “Superficial damage to my bioplast and muscle structures, a blockage in my cooling system, and a series of leaks in my abdominal fluid supply tubes.”
“He’s bleeding internally, for all intents and purpose,” Riker clarified. His vocal pattern remained angry. There was an additional undertone Data’s programs struggled to identify.
“Data!” Troi put her hands to her hips and moved one step closer. “What are you doing still on duty?”
“I have closed off several cavities to contain the biofluid outflows as a temporary solution.” Data wrinkled his forehead and opened his mouth slightly to convey confusion. “Did I do something wrong?”
Picard sighed. “Not precisely.” He stood from his chair as well and tugged at his uniform top to straighten it.
Data looked up at the three of them. His priority seven subroutine spontaneously displayed an image from the Terran novel Gulliver’s Travels of the titular character in Brobdingnag – the land of giants. He filed away a note to examine the occurrence at a later time.
The captain continued, “However, I reiterate the commander’s order to report to sickbay – immediately. Ensign Basma will cover your station until the end of the shift.”
“Yes, sir.” Data nodded. He rose as Basma slipped over silently to fill the chair behind him. He was almost to the turbolift when he paused his walk cycle and turned back to Commander Riker. “I hope I did not offend you, sir. I did not intend disrespect, or to disobey. I was merely attempting to prioritize.”
He did not fully understand his fellow officers’ reactions. It was an area in which he still had much to learn. He would have to parse the behavior and reassess. Another of his subroutines was already occupied analyzing the micro-movements of their expressions.
“I know, Data,” Riker said, and the skin of his face smoothed out a fraction. “Just – right now is a time to prioritize yourself.”
Data tilted his head to the side again. Then nodded. He began to turn but was halted once more by Captain Picard.
“Oh and, Commander,” said the captain, giving Data his full attention, “in future I would like to be kept informed of any such similar occurrences. I realize your capabilities are significantly greater than many of ours, but I will not permit any officer on this bridge or this ship to remain on duty while they require medical attention. Even if will not become critical for ‘twenty-nine minutes.’ Is that clear?”
Data internally corrected this statement to an updated twenty-six minutes, thirty-two seconds but terminated the command that would have allowed him to say this out loud.
“Yes, sir,” said Data. “It is…‘crystal’ clear.” His nanomotors whirred a little faster underneath his bioplast. He terminated another command that urged his lips to form a smile - he was quite certain he had used the expression correctly.
Data entered the turbolift and turned to face the doors, centered exactly between the walls. Before the doors closed, he observed the positioning of Picard’s mouth as suggestive of amused.
The three officers watched him until the panels slid shut.
-------
Dr. Crusher was waiting for him. As was Geordi.
Data would not have categorized either of them as seeming pleased.
“Commander Riker sent me up,” said Geordi. He gestured to a biobed. “Lie down.”
Data sat. Before he could recline, Geordi tugged at the sleeve of Data’s uniform in a gesture Data quickly interpreted as a silent instruction to remove his shirt. He pulled the top over his head and Geordi nodded, taking it from him. Data’s nanomotors whirred again at the successful decoding of Geordi’s intentions.
Dr. Crusher sighed as she ran a tricorder up and down his body. “Data, what were you thinking?”
Data sculpted a frown. “At which time, Doctor?”
Her face shifted to mimic Captain Picard’s before he had come down in the turbolift. “When you decided to bleed out on the bridge instead of being repaired?”
(Data registered that his human counterparts evidently preferred to refer to the damage to his systems as ‘bleeding’ rather than ‘leaking.’ He did not ask why. He had constructed several theories regarding the behavior in the thirty-seven milliseconds since Dr. Crusher had spoken.)
Data had been thinking many things when he had decided to go to the bridge instead of sickbay. Two hundred and three separate things, to be precise. This is not what Dr. Crusher meant.
“As I explained to Commander Riker, my status is not yet critical.”
“Yeah, yeah,” said Geordi as he performed his own scan of Data’s body with his VISOR. “Sure, buddy.”
Geordi placed a hand on Data’s arm as Dr. Crusher sliced into the bioplast covering his midsection with a scalpel. A comforting action, Data knew from past observations. Data did not require comfort – he was not capable of feeling the pain of the incision – but the pathways in his brain pertaining to Geordi’s presence lit up, buzzing with activity. His fingers twitched at the surge. He predicted it likely Geordi would continue to offer comfort throughout the procedure. The pathways lit up again.
Dr. Crusher finished opening up his abdomen, and she and Geordi went to work immediately repairing his damaged parts. Fluid gushed out onto the table as they removed the seals Data had put in place, and he experienced a twelve percent decrease in operating speed as his body diverted power.
He blinked. “Geordi?” He was not certain why had not been able to terminate the command to say his friend’s name.
“Hey, it’s okay, Data. We’ll have you fixed up in no time.” One of Geordi’s hands continued its work where it was buried in Data’s internal workings, but the other squeezed Data’s shoulder before returning. “I promise.”
Data nodded. He authorized the function that closed his eyelids.
In twenty-eig – approximately half of an hour – Dr. Crusher was closing him up again. Geordi ran a device over his bioplast, encouraging it to begin to regenerate and knit itself back together. Data did not think the device had a term to label it yet. Geordi had invented it himself.
“All done,” smiled Dr. Crusher. “Normally I’d order bed rest, but you’re good as new. If only all of my patients recovered as quickly as you, Data.”
Data sat up. His internal scans confirmed his body was fully repaired. However, he was uncertain he fit the definition of ‘recovered.’ Curious, he began to run a comprehensive diagnostic.
“Thank you, Doctor.”
Geordi handed him his uniform top. Data put it back on and thanked him as well.
“I’ll stop by after my shift, huh Data?” Geordi suggested as Data stood from the biobed. Geordi’s hand touched his arm again. “We can try out that new holodeck program you’ve been working on.”
Data displayed the smile that cross-referenced most often with similar past suggestions. “I would like that, Geordi.”
Both Geordi and Dr. Crusher smiled then, too, though Data found their expressions to meet two different sets of criteria.
“Alright I’ll see you later, then.” Geordi’s hand slid from his arm.
Data exited sickbay and headed towards his quarters. He contemplated the possibilities of activities with which to fill his time until Geordi was off duty. He had not played with Spot yet today, or given her the kisses she required to maintain a calm state. His walk cycle lengthened. The positronic pathways respective to Spot lit up, followed by the ones concerning Geordi.
The self-diagnostic was still running. He would allow it to finish and inspect the results. However, he estimated his ‘recovery’ to have increased by an unspecified percentage.
Data predicted it likely to continue to increase during his time on the holodeck with Geordi.
Though no one was there to observe it this time but himself, Data smiled.

Does anyone care? Nah ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ . But this meme crossed my main dash so I’m gonna answer it here because I know no one would actually play memes with me anymore. This is the Beta AU post; FFV will be separate.
What OC has the biggest family? How do they get along? I mean, Alfredot has been creating gems for thousands of years by the time she stopped. She generally gets along well with them, for how little time she’s able to spend with them before they get shipped out.
What OC has/is a mentor? Alfredot both had a mentor and has been one. And in better years, she was a fair one. It’s just been in the past 5000 years that she broke and became that one jerk teacher no one likes but is the only one who teaches Advanced Exogeology.
What OC has a huge group of friends? I’m not sure if Skinny/Twig counts because she’s based on a bit canon character, but definitely her. She tends to get along with everyone.
What OC has a small, close group of friends? Mist never makes friends easily, and a lot of that is because of trauma, but she sticks to them when she can.
What OC has, like, one friend? Alfredot used to have a larger pool, but all her friends are either dead or have been driven away by 5000 years of her being a bitter asshole.
What OC is the Mom Friend? Twig
What OC really needs the Mom Friend around? Bear could honestly really use a friend, given her difficulties, but not a lot of people want to make the effort to slow down for her.
Which OCs are an old married couple (literally or figuratively)? Alfredot and Mist, if they ever reunite
What is your favorite platonic relationship between your OCs? Twig and Mouse, easily. They’re both so laid back that they can shoot the breeze for years and not get annoyed with each other.
What is your favorite familial relationship between your OCs? Look, Prasiolite was Alfredot’s daughter and I’m sorry I never got to really explore that.
What is your favorite romantic relationship between your OCs? I really love exploring taboo and complicated relationships, so it was always gonna be Alfredot and Mist.
Which two OCs are the most different from each other? Oh, goodness, Twig and Copper are as different as night and day. Up until Twig gets all Ahab, anyway.
Which OCs complement each other the best? This is a good question and I think Twig would be good for helping Burgundy and Copper to step down on the intensity a bit.
Which OCs get along the best with each other? Oh, gosh, probably Sunstone and Twig, if they ever met. Twig would find Sunstone’s genuine desire to do good to be refreshing, and Sunstone would look up to Twig’s unwillingness to let anything get to her.
Whch OCs get along the worst with each other? Copper and Albite (who may or may not be one and the same, opinion pending) would, ironically, find Sunstone’s optimism and goodwill aggravating.
Which OCs don’t know each other, but would get along great if they did? Despite Albite’s disapproval with how pearls are made, she would approve of Copper’s attempts at revolution--mostly what she hates is inaction and compliance. She would also be more approving of Alfredot’s efforts at fueling and informing Copper’s revolution if she had any idea Alfredot would eventually grow a spine. And oh, goodness would Albite love Bismuth and Pearl.
Which OCs don’t know each other, but would hate each other if they did? Sunstone and Star Sapphire do actually know of each other, and Star Sapphire does manipulate Sunstone, but Sunstone would loathe the way Star Sapphire plays behind the scenes (despite, well, doing her own manipulations--Star Sapphire operates out of a necessary distance because she’s ancient beyond belief, Sunstone is still young enough and well-meaning enough to believe the best of people).
Which OCs would make the worst couple? Oh god I cannot see Albite with anyone, she’s too dedicated to her movement and it occupied her every thought. Likewise with Copper.
What’s the strangest way two (or more) OCs have met? Mist might have made a very loud wark when meeting Twig, who was the first of her gems to have met her.
Which non-related OCs have known each other the longest? Star Sapphire and Alfredot.
Which OCs knew each other the shortest time before becoming close friends? Look, Twig will befriend everyone at a moment’s notice.
Which OCs spend the most time together? Stoneshaper is actually the gem who spends the most time with Mist post-corruption, because she likes a captive audience and Mist doesn’t mind her making things in front of her.
Which OCs have fought with each other the most? The triplets fight with everyone, tbh. They’re soldiers without purpose and need a guide.
Do any OCs have friends they haven’t met in person? Not really. Most of them have met at least once. Moonstone had acquaintances she only met through the network, but as she is so detached from everything due to sheer age, she doesn’t grow close to anyone.
Do any OCs have imaginary friends? Nope
Does OC have a hard or easy time making friends? Alfredot has a harder time making friends the older she gets.
How did OC meet their best friend? Peach Pearl was just dropped in Sunstone’s lap one day. And it was a rocky start (haha), but they do get to be close friends.
How did OC meet their worst enemy? Well, see, Lapis dragged Jasper under the sea and forced a fusion for months and Twig hated her since.
How did OC meet their significant other? If OC does not have a SO, do they want one? Sunstone being genuinely ace, she’s just as happy to be bffs with someone.
How does OC get along with their parents? Alfredot got on very well with her maker. Well enough to be apprenticed to her.
Does OC have siblings? Do they get along if they do? Do they wish they had some if they don’t? Twig has plenty of siblings, some she gets along with better than others. But it’s with Jasper that she has the most sibling-like relationship.
Does OC have or want kids? Twig has so many human kids, you guys.
Is OC/Would OC be a good parent? Twig is the best parent. She will drop everything for the kids, even if none of them came from her body. They were her wives’ kids, so they’re her kids too.
What is something unusual OC has bonded with someone over? It’s not been explored at all, but Alfredot started bonding with Albite over ship building and maintenance.
What is the most important relationship in OC’s life? I actually want to say Albite and Alfredot, if just because Albite’s movement and eventual death ended up influencing Alfredot’s life up until she ended up freeing Mist, shuttling freed pearls to the pearl enclave on the first colony, and enabling Copper’s revolution.
How has OC been affected by their friendships? They’ve all been influenced by friendships.
How has OC been affected by their family relationships? Twig is the biggest family girl because of her relationships with other Beta gems
How has OC been affected by their romantic relationship(s) or lack thereof? Losing Mist may have made Alfredot bitter and wholly unlikeable to everyone who has to take her exogeology classes, but Mist was sort of the final element to push Alfredot into her revolutionary support role.
Who does OC consider they have learned their most important life lesson from? Albite sort of set up the scaffolding for Alfredot’s life lessons, but Mist pulled her back enough to see that the scaffolding was there all along.
Who motivates OC? So many things motivate Alfredot, but primarily Albite and Mist.
Who would OC do anything for? Look, Alfredot will give everything to have Mist back.
Who would OC do anything to not have to deal with? If Alfredot never has to deal with Blue Diamond again and not also betray the gems she made, she’ll go rogue at a moment’s notice.
How does OC meet most people? Alfredot mostly meets people through work.
How long does it take OC to open up to people? Alfredot? centuries. Sunstone? minutes, but she always keeps Heliodor to herself.
How much do OC’s friends know about their private life? Most of my OCs are very private people, due in large part to living in an oppressive society in which the walls actually have eyes and ears
How does OC act differently after they know someone better? Alfredot gets a lot less forbidding if she approves of someone.
Who is OC’s favorite person? Alfredot was nice to Sunstone and treated her like an equal, so Sunstone looks up to her a lot and this always mystifies Alfredot.
Who is OC’s least favorite person? The amount of hate Alfredot has for Blue Diamond can be measured on galactic scales, but she would never actually acknowledge it.
Is there anyone OC used to be very close to, but no longer is? Star Sapphire actually does know Moonstone, and they were friends once upon a time. But as they are both old on the scale of nearly a million years, they’ve drifted apart.
What aspects of OC have, consciously or unconsciously, come from someone else? Alfredot kinda gets up the courage to do more than just mourn her losses from Mist.

Sam (Samantha) Anderson: Lieutenant, junior grade with Starfleet and enthusiastic geologist and exogeologist with a vast amount of research and study in the field of planetary geology.
Main Verse (Star Trek)
From the 23rd Century Montana, Earth. Raised by two loving mothers who deeply encouraged the human connection with the Earth, Sam grew up exploring the Rocky Mountains and was constantly fascinated by the stories told within the cliff faces and mountain slopes around her.
Sam's youth was spent avoiding academia, having preferred to learn about the world around her through experience and not books. However, a chance meeting member of Starfleet inspired her to focus on one day exploring world's beyond. From that moment she was completely devoted to working hard in her studies and enlisting in the academy.
After graduating near the top of her class, Sam started her career within the science division of Starfleet. Her journey led her to serve on the renowned starship, the Enterprise, under the command of Captain Christopher Pike. Working within the science division, Sam delved into the wonders of exogeology. She was one to never turn down a trip to a new planet's surface.
Her collection of rocks, minerals, and crystals from across the galaxy served as important keepsakes of her adventures and discovers so far. However, amidst this collection, a small piece of limestone held a special place on the shelf by her bedside. A piece of home that grounded her amidst the vastness of the space and reminded her of the Earth that inspired her to traverse the stars and seek out new worlds.
Doctor Who Verse
Originally hailing from the scenic landscapes of Montana, USA, Sam Anderson is not your typical scientific officer with UNIT. While her official designation places her in the role of a scientific officer, you'll rarely find her confined within the bustling city of London, let alone the walls of the main headquarters. Her only trips back to the 'Big Smoke' are often driven by the need to use the lab for the study of lithological samples or to share her discoveries with the leading scientific officers.
Sam's explorations span the entire globe, taking her to anywhere UNIT needs her to be—from the craters of volcanoes to the depths of ice caverns nestled within glaciers. As a member of UNIT, she has access to the secrets of alien life, yet the concept never rattled her. She always figured the universe was too big to have only life on Earth and one day, she hopes to see the makeup of the universe from alien soil and underneath alien skies.
For now, her earthly adventures, coupled with her contributions to UNIT, keep her engaged and content.

Learning About Exoplanets
For generations, people have always wondered what life might exist in the universe besides ours. It has become a hot topic in movies, books, and of course, science. Before even reaching space, humans have always hypothesized about “The Great Beyond” So far we have not found alternative life, but we have made significant progress. On major discovery is exoplanets. It seems pretty obvious that…
