On today's episode, I talk to musicians Maia Sinaiko and Susanna Thomson, the founders and 2/3 of the Bay Area band Sour Widows. Originally meeting and becoming friends at Camp Winnarainbow in their youth, Maia and Susanna formed Sour Widows in 2017, when they found themselves living near one another for the first time. Eventually they invited drummer Max Edelman to join them in the band, and since then, they've released two fantastic EPs, a self-titled one in 2020 and Crossing Over in 2021. In 2023, they recorded their first full-length album Revival of a Friend at Tiny Telephone, and it will be released on Exploding In Sound Records at the end of the month!

besides his obvious intelligence and badassery yoongi has what i call soft beauty and it’s not just the immaculately cat-like face (which i love) it’s also his presence and demeanour being just unobtrusively introverted. almost inexplicably he is so comforting to look at/listen to like even his most aggressive raps don’t make you feel uneasy because not only does this guy have the most attractive pillow-like baritone and the most relaxed body language ever but - despite him being a lil tease - he also gives you the feeling of being on your side. on any given day he would drive away all of your haters using nothing but a pair of chopsticks and then he’ll just blink and shrug because that goes without saying and then he’ll languidly clean up your whole living space and cook thai food

love eote so much that I constantly listen to music. And decided to draw what I feel during this or that track

below why I think Hatchling is scared. because I fuckin wasnt. gosh. finally a good semi horror game (dlc)

judging by all the information that we extract as the game progresses the most important features Hatch has that they are energetic, purposeful and finally curious. perhaps from the very first loops they were not like that, or on the contrary, an endless series of despair sipped their character. but most likely, they got into a Stranger when the log of the ship was already filled, which means by this time Hatchling is already used to everything. they understand what to expect and shaped their thoughts/worldview/fears/emotions about this. They see what everything will come to. All their lives they knew about their galaxy around and heard how other hearthians flies, dreaming of conquering (curiosity?) too. They knew from childhood about Nomai and also burned with the desire to learn more.

They knew about the existence of all these things.

and soon it will be the turn to end it all with the unknown in the Eye. perhaps they still need time to mentally prepare and live their time, but there is only one way ahead.

And here.

What they didn't know. even the secret of the Interloper was not so large-scale because they knew about the existence of a comet, albeit from the outside. and many of Nomai's conversations pointed to that celestial body - they were prepared. But a completely new .. civilization? which even Nomai didn't know? what to expect from that place? the whole galaxy Outer Wilds has never carried violence - it's all nature. but what is here? yes, perhaps Hatchling calmed down seeing the interior of the ship - grass, trees and water familiar from childhood. but even before entering the simulation, there were reasons to start to fear -

slides with the lives of strangers.

and then I get to my point - I think Hatchling would not have shit so much about all this - they are already used to it - well, or at least they would be afraid only of a couple of loops. However. Music and sounds. what is it created for? to show the atmosphere. but this atmosphere doesnt convey the feelings of owlks, they fuckin live here. sooo

these are the feelings and emotions Hatchling is feeling (the Player goes to hell). ..how they must be mad with fear and caution.

They are scared because the unknown is ahead. But this is precisely the reason why they go forward, like all hundreds of loops back. Curiosity.

Ok wait- on the Flatland note regarding Bill's origin story-

Everyone is out here trying to figure out what exactly makes Bill's eye weird. Like. How can he see into the third dimension while the others can't? What makes it weird other than seeing into the third dimension? Do the others in his dimension have two eyes - but how would that make it so they can't see the third dimension? Do they have no eyes at all (definitely not, cuz apparently they have evil optometrists)?

I'm about to (probably not) blow everyone's freakin minds.

What do you notice about them? Anything interesting? Perhaps something about their eye(s)?

Their eye(s) are located on one side of their face. They can only see forward, or, if they turn around, backward. And that's because, well, it's the 2nd dimension - there are is only left or right, forward or backward. I repeat - they can only see forward.

Now let's look at our beloved (beloathed, and everything in between) triangle demon:

Notice anything about his eye? Anything different? Anything... Weird? Strange?

It's in the middle of his face. Which poses an interesting issue in a 2nd dimensional world... Sure he can look left and right, but what is his default?

His default, if he is on a two dimensional plane, is to look up. "Up" is not a concept in the second dimension. There is no "up" because "up" implies depth - and depth is 3rd dimension, not 2nd.

He doesn't have any special powers that allow him to see into the 3rd dimension - I mean, obviously he has lots of special powers but... They aren't what inherently allow him to see into the 3rd dimension. It's the placement of his eye. The placement is his "defect," not the eye itself. He sees into the 3rd dimension because he has no choice. His default always was to see something that no one else in his world could see - the sky, the stars, and whatever else lay above.

The reason they tried to chemically blind him was because there was no other way to make it so he couldn't see into the third dimension. They probably thought it was a mercy - the poor kid was stuck with the default of always seeing of something that no one else in his world could ever physically see.

bass (left) and uke (right)!! they're pretty chill with each other, best friends! bass does annoy uke to hell n fuckin back though but yeah they're silly. you know the dynamic straight laced guy with sillier guy shawn and gus core. uke tries to keeps bass on track while bass makes sure uke ain't too serious yanno? they're my favourite btw

he's kinda in his own world just jamming n stuff usually. he hangs around keys and is the most like. classically trained of them? i think that's the word but yeah he actually handles a lot of the writing n works with voice a lot

bitch. also goes by CJ because it's a chonny jash au he's legally obligated to do as such. he's really close with uke, constantly checking up on him n shit. he usually handles more of the business side of things with uke and yeah I don't have too many thoughts on him unfortunately. he doesn't get much sleep

ANYWAYS here's some misc. stuff

voice is up late one night uke tries to get him to come to bed. shit dialogue i drew this cause I was really bored okay?

oh uke's eyes are different? yeah he's normally stylized like a cartoon character with the glasses moving like eyes/eyebrows, as shown below

only when he takes them off is when he gets actual human eyes YEP IT'S THAT TROPE I TOLD YOU THIS IS VERY 2010s TV SHOW

here's him and uke talkin about stuff I think he's talking about voice or something man idk they're just. yeah. chillin

damn this is the only other photo I can post son of a fuck anyways these are the hands for all of them. bass and voice are right handed, uke and keys are left handed, while beat is ambidextrous.

all of them have the same polish on both hands, except for keys who has inverse colours on each hand

also the lighter colour on bass and keys' nails is white, however the lighter colour on beat's nails just shows that it isn't painted he doesn't. he doesn't paint his nails except for his thumbs for some reason MAN IDK
