24. What other character from another fandom of yours that reminds you of Misa?

Omg good question! I'm not truly even in that many fandoms to draw comparisons between, buttt...

hahaha would it be weird to say LOTR cinematic universe Gollum? (I haven't gotten that far in the books yet)

Let me explain...

-both Misa and Gollum appear partway through the story and then are constantly third-wheeling on the two main boys + whatever immense sexual tension they have going on with each other (plus L/Sam both seem super resentful of Misa/Gollum in a way that's like, sooo do you just not trust them and think they're annoying, or are you ALSO secretly a wee bit jealous that they keep busting in on your alone times with the bestie / jealous that they can relate to the bestie in a different way than YOU can due to their usage of a cursed magical/supernatural item that you don't have the same intimate connection to yourself, maybe?? 😏)

- both are often being a BIT of an immature drama queen at little insults, yet also often offending others without shame

-Both are surprisingly tough and resilient through traumatic events

-both are single-mindedly obsessed with this one thing they can't have in a way that both annoys you as the audience and sometimes makes you feel bad for them at different turns + causes them to make themselves useful for selfish and transparent ulterior motives to the protagonist on their journey

(Hahaha I'm sorry for this dumbass comparison btw, but there's only a small smattering of fandoms I actually feel involved enough in to talk about/choose from)

1. Three Ships

oh well, to be honest, I don't rlly do that many ships anymore. something about getting older and being more into my work-work has made the fandom madness simmer down. but there's like three that i'll always like: lawlight, obikin, and spock/kirk.

2. First ever ship

Oh boy that's a long reach back. I'd say probably robin/raven from teen titans.

3. Last song

Genesis by Grimes. I was listening to a Spotify playlist that was mostly just pop girlies while I drove my coworker home.

4. Last movie

Oh! I saw Knock at the Cabin on Tuesday and loved it. M. Night Shyamalan truly makes films like no one else, and even if they don't always hit, they're always such unique cinematic experiences. Dave Batista was a real stand-out, but the whole movie really pushed me emotionally. I'm finding more and more that I like complicated movies more than simple ones, though I still like those. I just like being given a bit more work from filmmakers.

5. Currently reading

A Touch of Jen by Beth Morgan. I totally stole the rec from @seventhfracture on his Twitter. It's good so far, but I've been a slow reader lately. I've also been digging into the Nana manga series!

6. Currently watching  

Do not laugh: I have been watching Bluey. Work has been stressful lately, and after the ice storm in Texas last week, its felt like there's been no time to rest. Bluey is for kids, but also its short and easy to throw on so when my brain is all mush after a long day I be watching the dang Australian dog show.

7. Currently consuming

I already ate dinner. Home Slice Pizza that someone brought to the volleyball game happening between my work building and their work building. God that pizza was good. I also got a cheesecake while going home, but I'm dealing with a lot of stress soooooooo.

8. Currently craving

I'm craving my laundry being done. I miss clean clothes, but its also so annoying to walk up and down to my apartment laundry room. Oh well. Such are the things that they are.

oh god... as much as i love her i don't think i could possibly be happy in a relationship with kiyomi. (also disclaimer: i'm not the best at understanding kiyomi yet. someday i'll be epic at it and write meta of her but) she seems to have a lot of self discipline & hard work and i'm exactly the opposite. usually this contrast i find in most of my relationships i can work with! but i feel like kiyomi would be sort of irritated? she's also like, a kira supporter. which as a character is OK but i wouldnt in real life date someone who thinks like that.

i don’t really have one u.u. in an alt universe i like light/gevanni. gayass moments. (thinks about that canon divergence au that Hit. ascends)

the entire spk. it’s about the permanent bond after shared trauma.

“who the hell would believe in something like that?!” like. completely reasonable. 

some fuckwit just waltzes into your headquarters which literally no one is supposed to get into but you, your boss, and your coworkers - and by the way, said fuckwit is holding your enabling coworker hostage, so of course tensions are high, but then said fuckwit who didn’t learn shit from being a part of organized crime, tries to hold your boss at gunpoint.

also i really like it can give you some form of insight into his personality. i love spiralling for hours on under developed characters <3

7: one way in which I relate to this character 

i, too, can sneak around but can be really bad at it. (something would pop at some point in my body, but i’m not sure about him... unless he has dad knees. actually that adds another layer of comedy.) also i can pull together something really well at the last minute.

8: thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character

it’s the consistent lack of gun safety for me. i get it’s for dramatic effect but gdit ohba/obata do your research. a government cop is going to know basic gun safety and he’s not going to have his finger on the trigger when someone (matsuda) decides to bring out the gun he brought himself. HE! FUCKING! CLOSES! ONE! EYE! WHILE! AIMING! you’re not supposed to do that! 

(screams) i’m fine.

9: cinnamon roll or problematic fave? 

absolutely problematic fave. i really wouldn’t hesitate to charge the SPK for stalking and try for unconstitutional practices, even though that wouldn’t get very far.

favorite thing about them

cute character design mostly. obviously he’s extremely intelligent but i have my fair share of that with L and Light so what makes Near stand out to me is the fluffiness of his design and how adorable he looks. i love that there’s no other character out there who holds a remarkable similarity to him, making him quite unique. i’m not autistic myself but i see him being resonated with a lot by the autistic community and it brings me peace because i love it when others are comfortable with a character and use him for self-care and i can associate to that too, and it makes me happy that we share the same fandom when it comes to that. another thing i like about him is how much he cares. he cares about his team and he holds a humane trait to him we don’t see in L as much, and it makes him different because caring suits him more. i also love his name, haha.

least favorite thing about them

i really hated it when he said Light was nothing but a murderer because that line is just very false to me and a completely wrong interpretation of Light and i hate that he made it seem like he was in a position to judge him without really knowing him in a way that L didn’t do at all; even when he was 100% convinced Light was Kira and wanted him to be Kira, he still respected Light’s worth and intelligence and found him a respectable opponent, while Near seemed to disrespect Light most of the time and to degrade him, or ‘drag’ him in ways that were fun to read, but he just didn’t give any personal worth to him as a human being and wasn’t at all curious about him as a person. it’s understandable of course because they only met once, after which Light died, and i’m not saying Near wouldn’t have the capacity to get to know Light in an AU, and i’m not saying that this is unfounded, it’s just something i don’t like personally.

unpopular opinion

i don’t even know if this is unpopular but it doesn’t make sense at all to me that moon river makes more sense to some people canonically than lawlight does? preferences are entirely personal but thinking moon river has more canon basis than lawlight is something i disagree with obviously cuz lawlight had tons of shippy moments while Near only hated Light’s guts in canon and nothing else, he and Light unfortunately didn’t share a personal life together and weren’t as close as Light and L have been (chained together, etc). i also don’t think that Near came to strictly replace L and i don’t like it when not much exploration to his character is given beyond just carrying L’s name and literally only filling in for L. i prefer to read him as an independent character with distinguishing traits, even when he’s technically not one of my faves, i still respect him enough to not think of him as merely an L duplicate.

💓 a ship I didn’t expect to ship but now do

Probably Mikalight! It’s not my main focus ship, but I definitely see the appeal and think it’s pretty underrated. I like Mikami and while Light is so iffy for me as a character he’s grown on me. I prefer it in an AU as I see the in universe context with both of them being too sad.

What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?

I don't really vibe with MisaxLight nor LxMisa as ships where the feelings are mutual and they geniunely are in love with each other, nor Remisa as one that I'd actually enjoy being in myself (I like the aesthetic of it, but find Rem a bit dull and frustrating as a character and their dynamic super depressing overall). Also LxMatsuda, I just simply cannot fathom them ever getting along, and not in a spicy opposites sort of way. I prefer LightxRyuk as platonic bros as well, though I do think they have great chemistry and are one of the more healthy dynamics in the series overall!

Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?

No, not particularly. Any pairing that the fandom has churned out that inspires deep loathing in me was never a pairing I liked in the first place. It’s always ships that I feel nothing about, and then by having it crammed in my face constantly bc almost NO ONE tags it (*cough*lawtsuda*cough*) I just like start to hate it for the simple reason that I don’t care for it and yet am forced to see it. But really, if I like a pairing, I like it for my own reasons and nothing a fandom does can change that. It is one thing I like about myself: I’m pretty good at forming my own opinions outside of other’s influence when it comes to the media I consume.

Popular character you hate?

Mello. He’s just not for me, and yet claims half the narrative in the second arc of DN for reasons I don’t understand. I guess hate is a really strong word. I just don’t like that character. He’s like ... whatever to me. I think its because he’s so young and that’s never really touched on the way it is with Near, and so there’s a large part of him that feels totally unexplored by both canon and fandom. There’s little attention given to him as vulnerable character and not just a loud firecracker. idk. this is an issue with most Wammy characters and is why I don’t really enjoy them overall. They get boiled down to their gimmicks and its boring. 

I am also, for reasons vagued at in the answer above, starting to dislike Matsuda but only in fandom interpretations. He’s still a great part of the actual source material.

8. Have you received anon hate? What about?

i have! i have received anon hate because i hate illumi zoldyck with every fiber of my being and the abuse apologists flock to my inbox to say that he’s actually a ‘good bean’ (i’m not kidding that is part of a genuine ask i have received about this canonically transphobic abusive brother) and call me slurs because i dont like him. (specifically the r slur.) but it’s not my fault people are idiots, so i don’t care. 

though there was also one person who specifically attempted to trigger me and then called ME an abuse apologist and said im invalidating autistic people because i think headcanoning illumi as autistic is playing into stereotypes about autistic people being violent and/or having no feelings. and they also said slurs. so that was... ‘nice’. im just like sure say that to the autistic abuse victim again. say it again i dare you. ill put your baby teeth back into your mouth and take your spine in trade. I’m not angry or anything. i just think that looking at an abusive, transphobic monster like him and saying ‘yeah that ones autistic’ is a fucked up thing to do. i dont take criticism on this. (also the reason they said i’m being an abuse apologist is because i hate him for being abusive to his younger siblings... apparently the fact that he was abused first means that its okay for him to abuse others... way to insult those of us who have been abused and actually put in the effort to not continue the cycle...) im sorry im really saying a lot here but i actually am still mad about that one. morons in the inbox always

11. Is there an unpopular character you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?

hmmmmmmmm. hmmmmmmmmmmmm. god i wish i knew off the top of my head who is popular and who isnt. i like scar from fmab and he seems to be pretty unpopular on account of he wants to kill state alchemists but like... idk man... they did commit genocide against his people in extremely horrible and gruesome ways... he is kind of bootleg kurapika but thats okay :) ill allow it!

wait isnt that just question eleven. uhhhh scar again. oh also a bunch of people seem to hate asuka from nge but i love her i think she has so many rights and deserves the world. nikola from the magnus archives gets a bad rap sometimes...? but im a big fan. trans mannequin dancer slash circus ringmaster slash whatever the hell she wants to be rights. yes tma is very strange sometimes. I love to be a sad sack and draw Near with a chocolate in his hands in homage to Mello, I thought Ohba left strange and loose details indicating connection between Near and Mello and those little facts have always endeared me. I still very much ship them, even if I don’t draw meronia as often- but never in a setting that works out, for some reason? I like it as it is: an unrequited disaster
