on monday for no apparent reason as i left my house for work,

i recalled that on the day my grandfather died, my grandmother’s sister-in-law rushed down to see her.

so when she was leaving, i offered to i back her car out of my grandma’s cantankerous driveway for her. she was so surprised that i offered to do it and accepted with this sort of… delighted graciouness. this took place about 12 years ago. it might have been the last time i saw her, actually.

i just found out that she had passed away the night before.

I’m usually the last person to complain about service workers, but bruh. I am so utterly and completely tired of the complete lack of competence and reliability of people—particularly business owners & higher-ups in businesses. How the fuck do you run a business if you can’t even be bothered to respond to messages following through on appointments or remember what appointments you have when, or actually take the time to listen to your client or patient and make them feel heard?

I’ve been encountering this issue repeatedly with aestheticians, dog trainers, and sometimes people in health care. I don’t understand. I tried to make a brow appointment with a woman through Facebook messenger and she asked me if such and such time and day would work. I said yes, but she never responded to confirm and it shows she hasn’t even read it. It’s been A MONTH. I messaged again to check—no response. It’s supposed to be tomorrow, so I guess I just fucking show up?? Because I have no idea if she put me down or not. I talked to another one months ago and trying to schedule was a nightmare because of her lack of responses and then forgetting what I asked for when the message was RIGHT THERE, so I just said nevermind because if she can’t even remember what I wanted when it’s right in front of her, that doesn’t inspire confidence in her abilities. Ended up going somewhere else, she did a shitty job, and it was lit like a massage parlour, so no wonder. It was relaxing, sure, but who can see anything like that?

Today, I met with a dog trainer, and he was the kind of dude I immediately just can’t gel with. Arrogant, makes you feel stupid for asking questions and like you’re doing everything wrong. Even if that’s the case, there are better ways to go about saying it than like, shaming someone who is doing their best? I research all the fucking time what’s best for my dog, what food, how to train her, whatever, and if I could do it my fucking self, I wouldn’t be GOING to a trainer, so why treat me like I’m stupid? And he had all these antiquated ideas of “dominance” and didn’t even ask what our actual issues were—he implied that it was things like jumping, biting, mounting—which Ella does none of. She jumps some when someone comes home and she’s excited, but that’s not really our main issue, and I’ve had mild success training it out of her, just not entirely yet.

She has anxiety. She’s terrified of everything. I can’t even crate her, and god help me, I have TRIED. He basically implied that it’d be better if I was able to get her used to the kennel before training and it’s like… I’ve fucking tried??? I’ve pulled my hair out trying. I’ve tried crate games. I’ve tried shutting the door and immediately opening it, building up her tolerance. I’ve tried feeding her in it. I’ve done everything they say to do. His response? “Just do it.” Just put her in there at bedtime and let her scream all night. I’ve tried that, too, but fuck. For one, we live in an apartment. My neighbors would looove that. For two, how am I supposed to listen to her cry all night and still sleep? And she drools so badly she’d dehydrate herself. Like, there has got to be a better answer than fucking letting her cry it out. Bruh, if I could crate train her myself, that means I could probably teach her obedience myself (she already knows all the basic commands: sit, down, stay, come, she just needs to learn to do them more reliably) and I wouldn’t be coming here. I’m coming because she’s SEVERELY anxious and I’ve tried everything and am at a loss. And you’re gonna treat me like I’m stupid and just haven’t tried hard enough? I can’t stand people like that.

And THEN, he basically said the reason for all of her issues is because she sleeps in bed with me. And I’m not even unwilling to stop that if it would help, but I couldn’t find ANY info anywhere indicating that it makes dogs more aggressive, which is what he insinuated. And then he implied that dogs listen to men more because men are often more ambivalent to their existence than women, while women are more nurturing and baby them, and how his dogs will immediately go to the crate when he says, but not his fiancé, because “she’s always down on their level petting their bellies”, and I’m like… okay, so not only can she not sleep with me or be on the furniture, but I also like… can’t pay any casual attention to her? I can only interact with her when we go on a walk? What kind of life is that? I may as well just get rid of her, if that’s the kind of relationship we’d have? It’s so militant and distant. She’s my best friend. How am I supposed to treat her like that?

Olay I finally watched Outlander 7x07 and oh my God it was so good!!!! This whole season has been so good!

MASSIVE SPOILERS FOR BOTH 7X07 AS WELL AS FUTURE PLOTLINES CAUSE I REFERENCE BOOKS PLOTS THAT THE SHOW HASN'T DONE YET!

I think it's kinda funny but the same thing is happening to me with the show as it did with the books in which I am much more into Bree and Roger's story than I am Jamie and Claire. Not that I don't love them cause I do and I do very much enjoy their plots but it's not exactly new. Another war, another goodbye, more lovely lovely yeah seen that already. But Bree and Roger's plots are so interesting and I still find myself so intrigued by their show story line as much as I was by the book plot.

I'm thrilled to finally see more positivity around Roger this season. Any time I go on Twitter or Instagram, even Facebook, I'm finally seeing people be kind to Roger. And I am LOVING IT! Finally! I've been so alone in the loving Roger corner of Outlander. If be so happy if this season finally brought some others over.

But okay so this episode. I'm just gonna spe some random thoughts

More Roger in a kilt! Woohoo!!! So handsome. I love it.

It drives me crazy that the show opted to not include Roger's struggle with his voice or even a scar on his throat since it plagues him forever. But I guess I get it cause this way Richard doesnt have to be hoarse forever and I got to hear him sing again so....I guess I can't be too mad lol.

The new actor for Buck is so good. I really enjoyed every scene he was in and how Roger and Bree and the kids all reacted to him showing up. I love that they had a conversation about Buck and Roger being family. I looove that Roger got to punch the crap out of him for both scaring his kids but also for TRYING TO KILL HIM!! I wish Roger's ptsd was shown a little more though. Lile, the hanging severely affected him and the show continues to gloss over it. Like, one conversation and Roger's forgiven him and calling him cousin Buck? Come on. Stupid episode constraints.

Every time Rob was on screen I got so angry lol. Just knowing what he's up to and what he is gonna do. Argh I hate him. When he started to talking to Jem I internally screamed "GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM HIM!" This meme was all I could think of to properly express myself.

Anyway fuck Rob Cameron.

Just a little thing but all the family moments with Bree, Roger, Jem and Mandy were perfect and I love them so much. So much.

The Bree Roger steamy scene!!! What!! Okay at first I laughed cause of the song choice but I love that song unironically and I love Bree and Roger so I ended up thinking that scene was super nice.

Bree and Roger belong in the 1980s. They belong in modern times and I fucking hate that they go back to the 18th century and stay there. I hate it. I mean I love Roger going back to find Jemmy and the angst of the whole ending of the episode was so raw and good and I loved it. But it reminded me that they all go back and eeeeennhggh I hate it. So much. I want Bree to be with her parents again but she and Roger don't belong in that time. Not like Claire does. They both are much more suited for the 1980s and are amd can be so much happier then. Roger and teach and be a historian and take care of the house. Bree cam be a boss and an engineer. They have cars and electricity and modern medicine and ARGJ they just belong in that time!

Okay let me talk about Claire, Jaime and William bow cause I also have thoughts. Mostly about William. I got a lot of William thoughts because Charles Vandervaart KILLED IT!

Omg casting Charles was such a good choice! I know Charles from Murdoch Mysteries where he played John Brackenreid and I always loved when he was in an episode. I didn't even know he got cast as William until like a week before the premiere amd I saw an image of him comparing him to a pic of Jamie. First of all, holy shot they look so alike it's scary. Secondly he is such a good actor! I couldnt wait to see how he'd play William!

And in this episode he really shined! From the eager to prove himself young inexperienced officer to the first time he truly sees the horrors of the battlefield. I love how the show continues to give William opportunities to show the audience how kind hearted and honorable he is. Like giving his friend and his horse the apple. Helping the soldiers to dig the mass grave, literally getting into the trenches himself, so that his fellow soldiers, including his friend, will have a proper burial. I love it.

June 19, 2023. This weekend was so full I can’t believe it. It was 2 fast 2 furious.

Friday: had dinner for hatty’s birthday at Laredo or lorato. Whatever trudy. And the food was surprisingly delicious!! First time I’ve enjoyed the food that much in a while. Then we didn’t want the fun to end so we sat in paiks car after feeling weird in a boba shop and just all poured our hearts out. The three words thing for the bday girl is truly so great. I could feel how loved hatty felt from it and it felt very nice to witness. Seriously though I think all of us left that night feeling a burst of love for each other individually and for the group as a collective. It reminded me so much of the types of hangouts the GGs would have growing up.

Saturday: naya really didn’t want to go to vbs because she said she can’t do what she wants to do but she has to do what they tell her. But I had nothing planned for that day (I actually canceled my volunteer thing bc I didn’t realize we couldn’t just drop them off at vbs but had to go w them). So we said let’s just try going and if u really don’t like it we can leave. She ended up having so much fun she didn’t want to go home. At first there was a service and at the end everyone took one of those gigantic group photos. There was the body worship dance things by the youth and a time of praise. Everything just felt so wholesome. Jason was like if they’re trying to convert us… I’m all in. It was just so family friendly and the kids ministry was 🔥. After there was lunch and then a festival. They got to do games, go in a bounce house, eat cotton Candy, there was some bombbbbb ddeokbokki wifh a spicy version for adults and non spicy for kids. It was a blast. It was kind of hot tho so they had an indoor portion that was a laser show and it was perfect for cooling down. The teachers were also so sweet. They came by to all say hi to Dani and say how cute she is. It wS just nice thst they remembered them even tho we don’t go to the church. We went bc Edenhurst kids get to go free.

After vbs we went down to Fullerton and had dinner w Jason’s mom and step dad. It was really nice to hang out for the first time all together in what felt like a long time. Just like how Dani and Shiloh are sort of frenemies I feel like Dani and Rowan are too lol.

Sunday: we went back down to Fullerton for Father’s Day w Jason’s dad. We went swimming even though temp reallt cooled down (well, when I say we I mean the dads and kids went swimming). Then we ate gogi and veggies and bap (always getting good hot links at their house. It’s the perfect level of spice). Jason’s dad got the girls books and Nayas were workbooks. She did them the entire time the car ride up. She loooves them. It was so nice just spending more time at Eileen’s and Jordon’s in Fullerton and seeing Rowan playing w the girls. On the way back home I picked up a few things I bought from facebook marketplace. (1) kinetic sand for $3. Jason was like how much sand are you buying? A cup full? And o was like no no the pic seemed like a lot! 25 pounds. We’ll be saving like $50. I get there and it’s like maybe a few pounds… lol. (2) princess standing things we can use as backdrops for the party. When we took it to my moms house nay wouldn’t stop carrying it and playing with it. I’m starting to get concerned magbe the princess thing is getting out of hand. Jimmy was like you know what this is? Idolatry. Humans basic instinct to worship something lol.

We had dinner at my moms for Father’s Day and man she over cooked some ribs so it was tough to eat but everything else was good.

Monday: went to the mall and exploded Nayas mind going shopping. First we went to Zara but my mom said there was something she wanted to buy her at Bloomingdales so we go and the dresses are freaking $200 plus. I was like omg. Nay tried on 3 diff kinds and I was like choose one. But my mom was like no no you can choose two. Naya had a hard time picking and we ended up buying all 3 (but partially so that the girls could share rather than buying two of the same for each of them). When we got home I ordered cheaper dresses and let the kids plAY In the nice Bloomingdales ones but took careful care to keep the tags on bc my mom HAS TO RETURN IT.

Where is the last place you had a kiss? My girlfriend’s couch. I normally wouldn’t kiss her inside her house but we were alone, so it just happened. What did you eat for breakfast yesterday? I skipped breakfast yesterday and went straight to having a macchiato, which was a horrible idea considering I had a badddd hangover. My body made me pay for it soon enough when my stomach started unusually heating up, so I bought a sandwich by around lunch to help it feel better. When was the last time you were at an amusement park? 2013. I don’t like amusement parks so when my friends make plans I don’t go along with them. Two weeks ago I was at a school fair which kinda has the same amenities as an amusement park, but I guess it’s not the real thing so it doesn’t count. When was the last time you cried out of physical pain? Last Wednesday. My friend Leigh was trying to demonstrate for me the concept of just-noticeable difference by pinching the skin on my hand. Do you donate blood? Nooooo no nope. I just said I didn’t like feeling discomfort on any part of my body hahaha and getting pricked is the worst sensation for me. Everyone from my section all the way to the back resorted to standing up on the monobloc chairs which really isn’t allowed, but duh it’s One Direction and we wanted to see them. Harry had to call us out and ask us to get down from the chairs and just stand on the ground for our safety, but we kept protesting until they just gave up and continued the show. Can’t we all just get along? (Spoiler: No.)

It’s a long story as to why, but I am friends with an older conservative woman on Facebook. “Friends” as in the Facebook terminology. It is one of those situations where it would be tricky to unfriend them. Very tricky. 

She will often provoke me into debating her. And then she gets hurt and insulted when I dispute her point of view. I am always polite and patient. She instigates these debates. And then I am the bad guy for debating her. How dare I contradict a wholesome grandmother.

“I’m just a sweet little old lady who bakes cookies for her grandkids! I go to church and volunteer at homeless shelters. Also, Barack Obama founded ISIS and if those illegals wanted to keep their kids they shouldn’t have broken the law!”

When the NFL kneeling protests started I linked to a thread with thousands of vets and soldiers. Many of them saying they did not want people using them as props. As in “My brother/cousin/uncle is in the Army” as a preface to give more weight to someone’s personal opinion. It wasn’t even me saying this. I was relaying something that thousands of soldiers had said. Something she could have just gone to the link and read. She thought I was attacking her because her son is in the Navy. And she loooves to say “As the mother of a son in the Navy...”

She once vague posted about me. I tend to talk a lot about TV shows and movies because that is a big part of my life. I can’t leave my bed, so that is all I have to keep me occupied. I posted my thoughts about watching movies with problematic actors in them. She just left a comment that said “Wow!” Which I didn’t understand at first. I learned that she couldn’t believe I cared so much about that particular topic. 

Two minutes later she created a new post and ranted about how people are glued to their screens watching drivel. They cared too much about the junk Hollywood produces. They should read more books! (Because none of those are vapid drivel, right?) They should go outside and enjoy the wonders of the world. It was painfully obvious I inspired this rant. And I’m 100% sure she knows my situation. I literally cannot enjoy the wonders of the world. Way to twist the knife, lady.

My least favorite thing she does is in one post she’ll call liberals liars and in another call for unity and friendship and compromise.

Then after the midterms she made another call for unity. 

“My hope is that this will encourage both the left and the right to work together and seek compromise...My fear is that the name calling as well as the slurrs and distrust will get worse. I am choosing today to be hopeful and ask all of my Facebook friends to do likewise. Don't jump to calling others racist or snowflakes or any other petty and polarizing name calling. Please lets be positive it is our only hope to get things done.’

Just a few hours later President Donald J Trump held a press conference. Some highlights include him calling someone a rude, terrible person. And he also called a black reporter a racist. 

LET’S BE POSITIVE, PEOPLE!

Trump calling that reporter a racist is especially ironic because I’m pretty sure she was worried about liberals flippantly calling people racists. Trump is guilty of every behavior she deemed to be the root cause of divisiveness and yet she has never criticized him for it. She puts the onus of being positive and working together on her own Facebook friends before the leader of her political party. 

It’s also a bit telling that she uses snowflake and racist as her examples. Does she think those insults are equally bad? I mean, if the worst thing a liberal can be is a snowflake, and the worst thing a conservative can be is a racist... does that not throw up any red flags in your choice of political ideology? 

“They have a bunch of snowflakes on their side. NO THANKS. I’ll stick with the racists.”

Also, she thinks liberals are “jumping” to calling people racists. I can’t speak for others, but I do not call anyone that lightly. If there is a long pattern of behavior proving someone is a racist... then I am going to call them a motherflippin’ racist. I will not refrain from doing so because it might be divisive. 

Conservatives just elected Steve King. A white supremacist who voluntarily met with a bunch of neo-nazis. Should I not “jump” to calling him a racist? 

Trump has a history of petty and polarizing name-calling. He just called a woman horseface on the official presidential Twitter account. But my Facebook acquaintance constantly says we need to “give Trump a chance.” That we should root for him to do a good job. And that we only focus on his mistakes and overlook the positive things he’s done. 

I honestly can’t remember the last time Trump has made a decision that wasn’t one of the worst choices from all available options. There was that one time he championed a bill that allowed dying folks a chance to try experimental treatments. There were still issues with that, but that is the last time I kinda/sorta was okay with something he did. He also let that old lady out of prison, but I give most of the credit to Kim Kardashian for that. 

I am not opposed to praising positive accomplishments. But they truly are very rare when it comes to Trump. 

I guess the most frustrating thing is this prevailing notion that “both sides” are equally to blame for this division. That is one of the biggest false equivalencies bandied about these days. Democrats have historically been more willing to compromise. Up until Trump, the majority of liberals truly were interested in trying to find common ground. 

The division has been growing for decades, but when Mitch McConnell dedicated all of his energy to blocking anything and everything Barack Obama did (which he freely admitted), that is when the polarization was solidified. Mitch obstructed every bit of legislation put forth by Obama. Including several bills that would have benefited our veterans. An issue you’d think would easily have bipartisan support. 

Then the Republicans will come up with their own bill to help vets, but add a condition where they will fund kicking puppies for no reason. Democrats vote against it and are accused of hating veterans because they haven’t passed any legislation. 

This McConnell obstructionist mantra came to a head when it was time for Obama to nominate a Supreme Court justice. For almost a year that ancient human turtle wouldn’t even allow a vote. 

Sorry, was that petty name-calling? 

My bad. 

Though truly petty would be if I had photoshopped Mitch’s head onto a turtle. Which I have totally never done and I will fight anyone who says otherwise.

how to go to a dog show

because everyone says to do this when you’re looking for a breeder but it’s not that easy

- find one near you on akc event search. you can search for all breed or specialty shows in your state or a specific distance from your city

- admission is usually free or cheap, though you might have to pay for parking

- are you looking for a specific breed? find the judging program online so you know the time. or ask on facebook.

- if you just want to see as many breeds as possible aka group competition, the groups don’t normally start until after lunch

- don’t pet the dogs please, we work very hard on grooming them and not all dogs like to be pet (unless someone says you can!)

- if you want to talk to someone wait until after their judging is done. they will be much friendlier trust me

- but also people looove to talk about their breeds and this is a great way to find a breeder. even if they’re not one themselves they can usually refer you to someone else

- vendors sell a lot of great stuff. my favorite leashes and antler chews come from dog shows

- please don’t call the portuguese water dogs poodles
