⊱ FAERENE • ROSENHALL — the faerose

The Rosenhall bloodline was always affected by a touch of the Feywild. Be it the enchanted gardens that gave the Rosenhall manor its name, or the ancient, sleeping tree found in their woods. A gift from an archfey as part of a pact with the house's founder, it was the Rosenhalls' duty to protect it for centuries, in exchange for their fey-touched magic. The noble house never wavered in their duty, even after the tree was struck by a rotting curse. All because an ancient prophecy was about to be fulfilled - a single fruit birthed from the decayed roots, a little fey girl soon to be adopted by duke Erendev Rosenhall and raised as his own. For that is precisely what she was; a daughter of an archfey separated from the Feywild at birth, with no clue as to her mother's whereabouts, but she was born upon Rosenhall soil. And so the ancient pact was fulfilled - the girl was a Rosenhall, through and through. Adopting the magic of the fungi and her knowledge of necromantic rituals, Faerene was able to restore the decayed tree, letting an enchanted mycelium network blossom amongst its roots. All so she could one day find out what happened to her mother - a goal so clearly set upon her mind she never contemplated her life having any other meaning. Until now.

Really feeling that Baldur's Gate 3 FOMO tonight, especially where Astarion is concerned 😩😩

I was literally looking at Gaming PCs online, even though I shouldn't get one right now. Though I didn't even think about places having a Labor Day sale! I think what I'm gonna do, is try to save up as much as I can the next few months, and then take a look on Black Friday, cause the deals might be good enough I could swing one then. I've been wanting to get a desktop computer for a while, since my laptop is over 10 years old and essentially doesn't function anymore, and this has just made that desire that much more acute lol

Baldur's Gate fun times. Whee.

It's uh. Different. I have no experience with previous BG games, I have zero experience with DnD, and uh, there were growing pains. A lot of growing pains. I'm sort of getting the hang of it, sort of? But… not? I go on little adventures, fast saving often, because holy fuck it can be punishing as fuck if you don't, and fighting is kind of weird, cos sometimes it's like a fight against 2 dudes with like 8 health, then 2 minutes later it's a fight against 10 people ranging from 4 health to like 60. And it's just a "uh…. how did I end up here?" One of my first fights was like fresh into the world and there was 10 of them and it was very very very painful. And I just sort of closed the game and left it alone for the rest of the day.

But I'm getting the hang of it. Sort of. I'm asking my BPA friends about things and the answer is usually "that's just how it is" or "it's a thing they're using from this DnD rule set" and okay that means nothing to me, but I'll go along with it and just keep on exploring and unfogging my map and saving often so I don't run into bullshit. But I am having fun. I have no idea what I'm doing, but I'm having fun, and that's what video games are for. I can already see myself playing this a few times so I have different experiences with the npcs and whatnot.

I'm terrible at remembering names, so my camp friends are Will (yes I know it's Wyll), Fuckboi, Bitchy yellow thing, Princess Jesus, Gale, I can remember Gale, and my red hot girlfriend who my brain keeps wanting to call Keller because I've watched too much White Collar so the name "Matthew Kellar" is stuck in my head, but Karlach, yes. Sorry hot girlfriend, I'll try to remember your name. And I've been rotating them out a fair bit. But hot girlfriend always comes along.

The game is fantastic despite how many growing pains I'm having, and setting up the WASD mod has helped like 5,000%. Good times. Would recommend.

I’m thinking of a Tav and Durge run……. Canon appearance Durge lands on the shore next to the shipwreck and recruits Shart, Astarion and Gale and my horrible little feylost bard (wip) lands near the grove and recruits Lae’zel, Wyll and Karlach.

Team 2 has their hang ups about each other;

Wyll and Karlach are put on edge by Tav’s twisting of words + blatant lack of transparency about everything because they have significant trauma and experiences dealing with devils, who act similarly

Lae’zel is the bluntest most open person to ever exist and dislikes deception, Tav is used to dealing with beings unable to be straightforward and speaks in riddles

Wyll and Karlach want to save the tieflings, Lae’zel thinks they should suck up and the goblins aren’t their problem and they should get to the creche before they all fucking die, Tav struggles with the concept of returnless charity and how the druids doing this is morally wrong

I think Wyll implies that he doesn’t like bards in one of his lines and I find that extremely funny. But yeah, it makes sense- he’s a folk hero, he’s probably been harassed by volo-esque people before.

But they generally get on pretty well-

Tav, being a bard tasked with regaling their Archfey with tales of the other realms, is very eager to hear about the astral plane and the Blade’s adventures. (And is immensely respectful of their boundaries since anything less is prone to be a sentence worse then death with the fey) Both of them love talking about it. Karlach jokingly calls them dorks (affectionate). Tav could also bond with Lae’zel over adjusting to different planes.

Tav is also has ridiculously high charisma. Their original build is an Eloquence bard Fey wanderer lol. They’re very polite, charming and fun to be around in general.

Wyll, Lae’zel and Karlach just get along well canonically! Wyll and Lae’zel swap tales and like listening to each other. Lae’zel and Wyll both admire Karlach iirc. Karlach calls Lae’zel a lunatic (affectionate) who she couldn’t bear losing, and yeah really likes Wyll. He’s a ridiculously morally upstanding guy, and stuck his neck out for her at significant price to himself (which, as she tells you, hasn’t happened to her for… at least fifteen years? Not sure on the age)

And all in all- the group has a good sense of camaraderie and is pretty cheerful, considering their circumstances.

Group 1 on the other hand is a hot mess-

Durge oscillates wildly between gleefully indulging the urge and being terrified and confused about it. Is this normal? This isn’t normal. Why is this happening to him? Hates Fel.

Shadowheart trusts absolutely nobody here, and as they progress through the village gets increasingly stressed as to why her goddess is torturing her.

Astarion is having the best time he’s had in centuries, but is vaguely wary and on edge about everybody. (Yes, he is sleeping with the extremely powerful and dangerous dragonborn for security, but is that really a win when said dragonborn rips people’s guts out while cackling at the slightest inclination?) (Don’t get him wrong, it’s hilarious, he just thinks the ripping out guts could use a little more… discretion.)

Gale is going to explode. Gale is coming to terms with his inevitable demise, surrounded by people with barely an inkling of diplomacy in them.

They eventually meet, and Shadowheart (who fully assumed that she’d escaped the githyanki) despairs when she sees Lae’zel. It takes a few seconds for them to start arguing. The teams end up grouping up because of the tadpole threat, It’s all very tense. Tav is just happy they have a healer and a cook now.

here's my personal conspiracy theory for why you can't make a dragonborn guardian. i might be willing to die on this hill now even if ends up being a technical issue.

balduran won't take a dragonborn form because of ansur I just fucking KNOW IT. the letter is so specific about what a big gesture Balduran felt it was that Ansur wanted to see the world through his eyes and what a privilege it was that he chose to do that. /wails
