Unpopular Opinion:

I very much disliked the idea of Clary & Izzy being parabatai....(Shadowhunters TV finale)

Obviously, it’s not going to happen, or it most likely won’t happen because of the ending, but it still made me cringe.

SIMON is Clary’s best friend. You don’t have a parabatai that is different from your best friend. And yeah, okay, Simon stayed a vampire in the show ending. But Simon and Clary in the books went through the Trial by Water and proved that they are TRUE PARABATAI. Like, you don’t mess with that! Also, there’s that whole thing about needing to find a parabatai by the time you turn 18 and in the show they are past that age most likely...so that doesn’t work anyway. But really Simon and Clary are true parabatai, they have a childhood-long connection that spans memory losses and shadow world divides. Also, Izzy’s entire character is her being a lone badass warrior. She learns to let people in, yes, but also her identity is her own and that’s been a point of her whole character. How weird would it have been to have Simon dating Izzy, so his girlfriend and his best friend are pledging their best-friendship??? What!? No, that’s not how parabatai works! I love Izzy and her friendship with Clary but just NO.

Fighting better together...When a parabatai bond is true, when the friendship runs deep and honest, it can be...transcendent.
