Hurts Me

It was September, and we'd only been away from the summer house for 2 months. I have been away from Susannah, Conrad, and Jeremiah since. I haven't heard from Jeremiah since the day we left; we were all gathered by the car, and my mom was gathering the last few suitcases in the car. Conrad and Susannah were planning on sending us away.

Jeremiah remained inside. Susannah came up to me and said, "I'm going to miss you so much, honey. And she wrapped me in a huge hug. "Not as much as I'll miss you! I reply, and she sends me a smile and walks over to Steven and my mom. Conrad hugged me next. His hugs were always pleasant. It was as though you were winning the lottery with his touch. He whispered to me, "I'll miss you. And kissed my cheek. We both agreed that staying friends is the best way to avoid hurting Jere. A smile formed on my lips, and I whispered back, "I'll miss you too. We hugged for what felt like an eternity. Steven yelled, "Conrad, are you going to give me a hug too or what? Conrad laughed, released me, and he went to embrace him.

Steven suggested doing one last belly flop with Conrad but I stopped the idea. "You can't do it without Jeremiah," I stated, continuing, "that breaks the tradition. He was about to argue with me, but Conrad agreed. "Yeah, Belly's right; it wouldn't make sense without him. Steven rolled his eyes and said, "Yeah, yeah, you're right. Steven suggested they do something that I wanted no part of, and they both walked away. As I was there alone, I watched my mother and Susannah hug, and I saw Susannah start to cry and mumble something into my moms ear. I looked away and turned to the house and stared at it. I couldn't believe I'd be leaving in a few short minutes, and Jeremiah was nowhere to be seen. Susannah must've sensed me thinking about him because she walked up next to me and said, "I'll go get him; I'm sure he's just waiting for the right time to speak to you. Her eyes were full of sympathy for me. I faked a smile. "It's fine; he's probably really busy. I'll just text him.” She shook her head. "Let me go see. And then she disappeared inside. I just stood there awkwardly and embarrassed that she has to go in there and beg him to see me. Five minutes later, she comes out with Jeremiah, carrying his head low and following behind her. I could hear Susannah lowly say, "Say goodbye to belly; she's been waiting on you.

Jeremiah comes up to me, his eyes bored, his face lacking emotion, and he dryly says, "Goodbye, Belly. He glances at his mom, and when he finds her looking at us grinning, he gives me a hug that lasted far too short. And he turns to head back inside the house, but I quickly ask him, "Aren't you going to say goodbye to Steven and my mom? He doesn't bother glancing back at me, saying, "I already have." Knowing that it's no one's fault but my own that my best friend hates me is when the tears spill out. I get on my phone and look at our messages. I must've sent him a thousand by now. Steven comes into my room. "Mom ordered Chinese food, so in a few minutes you better come down and eat it with us this time!" He takes in the sight of me and raises an eyebrow. "What's wrong with you?" He questions. I rub my eyes and say, "Nothing, Steven, just get out of my room!" He moves to sit beside me on my bed. "Is it Conrad? I shake my head and say, "No." He then says, "Jeremiah? I don't reply. "Belly, I'm sure he'll talk to you again; he just needs space. I sigh and question "it's been 2 months, how much space can he possibly need?" He pats my shoulder and says, "If it makes you feel any better, he hasn't really spoken to me much since we left Cousins. I pressed my lips together. He’s lying. “I hear you talking on the phone with him every Friday!" He picks up a pillow and throws it at me. "Do your ears perk up every time my phone rings? It's October now, and the weather has chilled significantly. Taylor wants me to go with her and her new boy toy to see a movie. As I'm making my way down the stairs, I stop and stand still. I overhear my brother asking my mom, "How's Jeremiah been? He hasn't called me in weeks, and I can barely get him to answer my messages. If I make my presence known, they'll stop talking about it because they know it's a sore subject for me. I overhear my mother reply, "I saw him about a week ago. He seemed well. As well as anyone could be with his circumstances." I sigh and continue to walk down the stairs, and tell my mom I'm going out.

My feelings have grown stronger for Conrad now that we’ve been calling each other every time we get a chance. We talk about nothing and everything, and he doesn't dare bring up Jeremiah, and I don't dare ask about him; it just doesn't feel right. Right before Halloween, Conrad tells me that Jere's finally okay with the idea of us and has moved on. And I'm happy—for the first time in months, fully happy. Before I went to sleep that night, I excitedly sent a text to Jeremiah. "Hey, Jere, what have you been up to lately?" I thought for sure I'd receive a response from him when I woke up but I was wrong. The text laid unseen.

November, and Steven, me, and my mom are on our way to Susannah's house for Thanksgiving. I send an ecstatic text to Conrad: "Can't wait to see you! And look out the car window and take in the scenery. I can’t wait to see Jeremiah too, heart fluttering and breaking as I think about him hugging me, if he’ll hug me.

We walk into her house, and she greets us each with a huge smile and a hug. I make my way towards Conrad. He kisses me and I kiss him back, and we pull away quickly, and he takes my hand in his. I usually don't like to kiss in front of people, but I'll make an exception just this once because we haven't seen each other in weeks.

Jeremiah doesn't make an appearance until he comes down to set the table. I make small talk with him about how the house looks, and he briefly replies before everyone comes in and joins. I wondered if I should tell him I missed him, but he should already know the messages, and missed calls from me are proof enough. And before we left that night, he made his way to give hugs to Steven and my mom, but with me, he only patted me on the shoulder and quickly said “have a safe trip.” His eyes not giving me a second glance. Last Thanksgiving, he greeted me with a hug, spun me around, and said, "Bellybutton, I missed you!” And we laughed. It's crazy how things change.

December joyfully came and went, and so did January and February. By March, I could feel Conrad slipping away from me. Susannah was progressively getting worse. In April, prom happened, and Conrad and I broke up. Susannah passed away about three weeks later. Then there was the funeral, where I ruined everything.

May has blossomed upon the trees, but not with me. I haven’t gotten out of bed since the funeral. Sure, I’ve occasionally gotten up to take a shower or use the bathroom, but I’ve always run straight back into my bed. Steven or my mom usually bring me food. "You can’t stay like this forever. I know how much you miss her, but this can’t go on.” My mother told me as she laid the bag of food on my bed. I don’t know how she’s so composed and not like me. Sad and engulfed by grief.

It’s mid-May, and I’ve just been awoken by a FaceTime call; it’s my mom. I almost decline, but I answer it, and there is Jere, standing in his graduation gown up on stage; his eyes look dull and distant, and while his mouth is slightly upturned, I can tell it’s not real. "Adventure is worthwhile in itself.” I read on his cap. I bet Susannah told him that. The camera flashes at Conrad. Even though he was only on camera for a second, my heart feels like it’s breaking in two all over again, and I end the call.

A week later, I decide to finally get out of bed. If Jeremiah can muster up enough motivation to get out there and walk across the stage, I can get out of bed and do something with my life. Taylor wants me to go to a party her boyfriend Milo is throwing, and I told her I wasn’t going. I know she’ll be excited when I call her and tell her. "We’re going to have so much fun! Yes, you won’t regret it! She screams on the call. I forced up a laugh and told her I’d see her later, and then I hung up.

My day started out well; I watched Steven graduate and was actually looking forward to being at that party. As the night wore on, so did my mood, and to top it all off, Steven yelled at me in front of everyone. Then I get home, and my mother and I have a fight.

As I’m about to go to sleep, I look at old pictures on my phone—of Conrad and me, of Jere, of Susannah. They are all intertwined in my memory; I never thought I’d lose them all. I turn my lamp off, and try to sleep, but my mind is awake, and I decide to call Jeremiah. I know he won’t answer, but it doesn’t hurt to try. One ring, two rings, "belly? I hear my heart pounding. "Hi, Jeremiah, I’m so glad," he cuts me off abruptly, "are you with Conrad? He quizzed. "Uh, no, why would I be with Conrad? I reply back, "I don’t know, I just thought you guys would. It’s my turn to cut him off. "Jere, what is going on?” I’m starting to get worried now. "Conrad’s gone." I sit up and turn on my lamp. "Wait, what do you mean gone? I ask him. "He’s not answering my texts or picking up my calls.” I sigh, "Since when? He quickly answers, Yesterday." Maybe he’s just busy. "I mean, isn’t he in the middle of finals? Maybe he pulled an all-nighter at the library. To which he responded, "No, I don’t think so; apparently he told his roommate that everything’s fucked, and then he just took off. I open my mouth to speak, but he continues, "I think I’m going to go to Brown in the morning and see if I can track him down.” "Okay, but I’m coming with you.” I’m not letting him go again.

oh wow just actually went to your blog home and saw your pinned post for the first time? you are a sickening little individual and i would like to wish the worst for you. You're on the mutual aid website, bitch.

Brother this isn’t the mutual aid website this is the hellsite and as I explained in the pinned post you’re misrepresenting, I fully support people crowdfunding, I know that it is an unfortunate necessity in this day and age.

However, coming into someone’s asks/messages/reblogs when you’ve never spoken to them even in passing and then begging for money, especially when you don’t know their situation and you don’t know how it will affect them, is disgusting. It’s not our job to fund anyone else but ourself.

Now is it nice, polite and kind to give to charities or to those in need when and if you have the extra cash or if you can donate or volunteer time? Absolutely! It’s part of human nature to care for one another.

But to have it be an expectation, to have some random internet stranger who hasn’t even bothered to attempt a basic conversation (hello, how are you, how’s life treating you etc) show up out of nowhere and pretty much demand that you give them money, and then guilt trip you before you’ve even had a chance to confirm deny or offer other help is absolutely disgusting, it’s a low blow, especially on a site where most of the userbase is poor, disadvantaged, disabled or unsafe for other reasons.

The tactics used by scammers are the exact same ones on desplay in these ebegging situations, think Nigerian princes of the new age. Half the population of tumblr are teens who haven’t experienced scams yet, or they’re so compassionate and willing to give more than they have just so someone else can survive.

Not that it’s your business, but I have been struggling to even pay rent and buy food for the past couple years, I’ve spent months sewing up the same pair of jeans and living off of plain white rice, hell I was nearly homeless at one point because my finances were so bad. And then I get ten different cases of randoms on the internet trying to make me feel guilty because I can’t give them 100 dollars, buddy if I had 100 quid it wouldn’t be going to anything but food or rent.

And also as I mentioned in the pinned post, I don’t wish any hate or mistreatment to these people. Because most of them are just humans struggling to get by, they’re just going about it in a shitty way.

Everyone struggles and trust me once I win the lottery I’ll donate to every charity case I can find but until then arseholes like you and all those fake ebegging cunts can fuck right off.

We don't know what Avery looks like ???? She has not been physically described yet, doubt she ever will. Is it for the reader to identify more easily to the protagonist ? Tbh, something is bothering me in the fact that the author spends so much time describing males of the family, specially the brothers but not saying a word abt the females characters.

WHY is everybody acting like Avery is some kind of genius ???? Ok for that math or physics test, but the keys ???? Like???? It's not that complicated really.

She's the worst friend ever. Doesn't give a f about Maxine, only talking about herself.

Binance Users Targeted in SMS Scam, Exchange Warns Against Spoofing Attacks

Last week, users of Binance fell victim to scammers who sent fake SMS messages claiming they had won prizes in the Binance Mystery Box lottery, with rewards valued at around 100 euros in cryptocurrency. The victims were informed that the offer expired the same day and were urgently advised to claim their winnings by clicking on a link in the SMS. Upon clicking the malicious link, victims were prompted to log in to their Binance accounts and provide the necessary passwords. Binance acknowledged that this scheme represents a typical attempt at a spoofing attack through SMS, where attackers manipulate the message sender to appear as if it is coming from a trusted source. The goal is to deceive victims into following instructions, ultimately leading to the theft of confidential data. Binance stated its inability to combat such fraud since the technologies of the GSM communication system, under which SMS messages operate, allow the sender to arbitrarily fill in the "sender name" field. Mobile operators do not verify whether the sender sending the SMS has the legitimate right to use a specific name. "To close this security loophole in SMS, the whole world would have to modify GSM technology, which seems unrealistic to us," concluded Binance. Earlier, the National Agency of Project Management in Uzbekistan (NAPM) announced that the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, Binance, would be required to pay a fine for operating in the country without a license.
