TODAY'S FROZEN MOMENT - Today marks the 65th Anniversary of this phenomenal photo - August 12th, 1958 - this now-famous photo was taken… later to be given the title "A Great Day in Harlem" when it was published in Esquire magazine. Art Kane, an art director for the magazine, was finally allowed to do a photo assignment... A jazz lover, Kane said he wanted to assemble the best in jazz for a shot, at 10 in the morning... Most people laughed at him...but...somehow he pulled this off; they showed up...as requested, to 17 East 126th Street...astonishing really... Subsequently, a documentary about the photo added to the magic... as did the allowance of the neighbors, the kids in the front and the folks in the windows… just so special… See below for a list of who's who... of the 57 musicians here, only 2 remain: Sonny Rollins and Benny Golson... but the shot, like all of the music, is eternal…

Okay so I haven't fallen off the face of the earth. The reason it took so long to get back to these is the holidays got in the way, then I started a big project so my time severely dwindled.
Then my laptop screen broke ,(it decided to completely fall off like wtf) so I had to wait until I had a way to draw again as well as the free time to do these.
So if you've been waiting all this time then please forgive me XD
(I'll be pasting this paragraph in the next few request pages as well, so that everyone who requested knows what happened.)
I actually finished all the requests! So no more waiting, I'll be posting the rest over the next few days. These were super fun and I'm really glad I did them. Thanks to everyone who requested!

A Great Day in Harlem
A Great Day in Harlem or Harlem 1958 is a black-and-white photograph of 57 jazz musicians in Harlem, New York, taken by freelance photographer Art Kane for Esquire magazine on August 12, 1958.
It has been called "the most iconic photograph in jazz history"
Here's the highest resolution I could find followed by the legend.

Roseville Beach Character Creation
Tumblr media
I'm home from a long holiday road trip and ready to do anything but drive, so here's a little walk-through of Roseville Beach (or use DriveThru) character creation.
In Roseville Beach, you and your housemates (the other PCs) are spending your summer on Rose Island working in the town of Roseville Beach. There are five steps in character creation, three are individual while the other two involve the whole group.
For this walk-through, I'll develop two characters: one named Trent (he/they) and another named Vic (she/her).
Step 1: Origin Story
The quickstart and demo kit included everything you needed to know for four of the origin stories, but the full game adds even more:
The fresh face: a newcomer to Rose Island, Roseville Beach, and queer communities.
The scandalous: having survived a career-destroying scandal before your career could really take off, you've come to Rose Island to lick your wounds and keep your head down.
The shifter: What it says on the tin. You can change (and sometimes have to change) between your human form and your animal form.
The witch: Also what it says on the tin. You know the secrets of spellcraft.
The familiar: You're an animal. That's not a metaphor. You have limited ability to communicate with your housemates, but you can also pass as a mostly inconspicuous animal.
The stranger: You're from another planet, dimension, plane, or reality. How you ended up in a queer little Rose Island town living with this collection of strangers is up to you, but here is where you are.
You can't mess up the balance of Roseville Beach, so pick the origin story that speaks to you.
Once you pick your origin story, it will tell you how to determine your broad backgrounds and your specialized skills. You can roll for them or choose, depending on what appeals most to you.
Vic is a fresh faced 18 year old (17+1d3). She grew up as a pastor mom and a farmer dad somewhere in the Midwest, so she has "Clergy Kid" and "Back on the Farm" as backgrounds. Her origin story skills are Driving, Oratory, and Tracking.
Trent (Vic's housemate) is a 26-year old (4d6 + 16) crow shifter who grew up in Metropolitan City (the nearest large city to Rose Island). His backgrounds are Crow and Metropolitan City. They were probably getting in a few scraps there since his skills are ambushing, running, and brawling.
Step 2: Jobs
Now that you're here on Rose Island, you're having to pay your way. Your job gives you an extra background and specialized skill. I added it in partially to ensure that no player ever feels like their PC has no useful skills and partially because the game is about spending the summer working on Rose Island. They include: bartender, backup dancer, opening act, clinic assistant, piano player, and gardener.
In Roseville Beach, Trent works as a clinic assistant at Roseville Care Center, the town clinic. He adds the background Roseville Care Center and the skill Driving (from having to cart injured people around on the clinic's golf carts).
Vic, on the other hand, is a bartender at Rosie's, the big bar on the harbor side of Roseville Beach (it's 1979, so there were such people as 18-year-old bartenders). She adds the background bartender and the skill intimidating.
Step 3: Strange Events
This is the first step that involves other characters, and since we have just two right now, they'll work together on this.
Every character has had at least one thing happen that revealed to them that the island was filled with strange, supernatural mysteries, some of which were hostile. They always happen when the PC was with one of their housemates, so they have someone to verify what happened and what they saw.
For Vic, she was walking with Trent on the Roseville Beach boardwalks when they saw a strange monolith that was always right behind them (even though they never saw it move). Both of them kept it together during the event and each takes the skill stubborn.
For Trent, they and Vic were together on a different night and were approached by a shadowy figure who hissed their names and ran away. Vic gains the skill intimidating, having tried to scare the hissing figure off, while Trent starts the game with a Trouble: he's looking out for someone who the fleeing figure injured.
Step 4: Troubles, Allies, and Comforts
Speaking of Troubles (Trent already has one), each character starts the game with a few connections in Roseville Beach, for good or for ill. Each origin story gives the character a Trouble, and they also choose an ally and comforts.
Trent's trouble is a federal agent who's looking for them because the agent knows Trent is a shifter. For now, we'll call the agent Clifton Robey. His ally (selected by him) is his boss at the clinic. There's not a designated town doctor in the game text, but we'll call her Dr. Grace Shelton. Normally, each character gets three comforts: for Trent, that's an item (a feather he has from their missing sister), a place (the highest branch of an old cedar tree near the bungalow), and a person (a piano player named Troy who he's got a crush on).
Vic's trouble is her older sister Ellen, who's dating a guy who lives in a town near Rosevile Beach, which means she comes to Roseville Beach for shows and events. Her ally is her boss Judy, a fellow butch who has taken Vic under her wing. Her comforts are two items (a picture of her late dad and a charm that Ellen gave her a few birthdays ago) and a person (Chuck, a local gardener, and her best friend on the island).
Step 5: The Bungalow
The last step is the bungalow (and its supply rating). Each group of housemates has a bungalow they live in. The simpler the bungalow, the less privacy and amenities they have (and the less likely they are to have a phone) but the easier it is for them to find equipment like camping gear or beach supplies.
Vic and Trent decide to go with the simplest bungalow. It gives them very little privacy (good luck having a nice, quiet date with Troy), and no phone (it's the 70s, so no cell phones either), but means they have a good chance of turning up flashlights, lockpicks, or other useful equipment.

John Paton Laurie was born on 25th March 1897.
Laurie was born at Dumfries, to William Laurie, a clerk in a tweed mill and later a hatter and hosier, and Jessie Ann Laurie née Brown Laurie attended Dumfries Academy, before abandoning a career in architecture to serve in the First World War as a member of the Honourable Artillery Company. Upon his demobilisation, he trained to become an actor under Elsie Fogerty at the Central School of Speech and Drama, then based at the Royal Albert Hall, London and first acted on stage in 1921.
A prolific Shakespearian actor, Laurie spent much of the time between 1922 and 1939, playing Shakespearian parts including Hamlet, Richard III and Macbeth at the Old Vic or Stratford-upon-Avon.
He starred in his friend Laurence Olivier's three Shakespearean films, Henry V Hamlet and Richard III He and Olivier also appeared in "s You Like It. During the Second World War, Laurie served in the Home Guard - the only future Dad's Army cast member to do so.
His early work in films included Juno and the Paycock, directed by Alfred Hitchcock. His breakthrough third film was Hitchcock's The 39 Steps in which his menacing, understated performance as a crofter (opposite Peggy Ashcroft) is particularly memorable. Other work included Peter Manson in The Edge of the World, Clive Candy's batman in The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp, the farmer recruit in The Way Ahead, the brothel proprietor in Fanny by Gaslight, the repugnant Pew in Disney's Treasure Island and Doctor MacFarlane in Hobson's Choice. In the 1945 film I Know Where I'm Going!, Laurie had a small speaking part in a céilidh sequence for which he was also credited as an adviser.
It was on the small screen that we remember Laurie most fondly as Private Frazer in Dad’s Army with his 'Wur doomed, wur awl doomed....” catchphrase. He cropped up in four episodes of the popular classic TV Show, The Avengers, playing a different role each time and in three episodes of Dr. Finlay's Casebook again playing different roles. Of course with a voice like his he was a natural as a storyteller on the bairns TV show Jackanory.
One of his final appearances, looking slightly frail, was in Return to the Edge of the World, directed by Michael Powell in 1978.
John Laurie died aged 83 in the Chalfont and Gerrards Cross Hospital, Chalfont St Peter, from emphysema, he was cremated and his ashes were scattered at sea.

who: Ethan + platonic rest of band what: fluff when: day time where: apartment why: Reader has hair like Ethan but straightens it, and one time they find her at home with rlly curly hair (think Brian May) and it's fluffy
"I'm sure she won't mind!"
"Impromptu dinners are fun, it'll be great!" You hear the voices of Damiano and Victoria outside your door, apparently accompanying your boyfriend home. This happened every so often: one of them would buy some nice wine and Damiano would find something of exceptional quality at the farmers market, so he'd want to cook. They'd think hey, let's just make it a party. Why Ethan was designated as the host however was a total mystery.
He was an introvert with a calming presence. The band usually knew better than to trample over his peace and quiet, but this was an exception. Unfortunately, this surprise was also on your day off. You'd given your hair and skin a break from product, which drastically changed your appearance. Ethan could be heard attempting to reason with them in hushed tones, Thomas' voice boisterous and oblivious.
You searched for a hair tie or something in your near vicinity, but nothing less than 40 minutes of skilled work could tame your mane. It was pointless to try so you braced for impact. When the lock clicked, you turned away to be spared of the immediate reaction. Of course dramatic Damiano audibly gasped. Thomas realized why Ethan had been discouraging him, and fell dead silent, probably with a bit of guilt. You turned to see his face and found Victoria grinning wide. She skipped right up to you and started touching your curls. You wanted to tell her off, but more so you wanted to throw something at Dami, who stood there with his jaw on the floor.
"Yeah, I know, it's ridiculous. I'm aware." You don't hide the irritation, and decide locating a hair tie would make the situation better.
"Oh, I wasn't going to say ridiculous!" Victoria gushed. She followed you into the bathroom, playing with your hair like a cat. When you smacked her hand away she laughed good-naturdly, unoffended.
"Right, sorry! Is this how you became an amazing stylist? Like dealing with your own hair?" Feeling like a zoo animal was very unpleasant, but this was a line of questioning you are comfortable with.
"It takes a lot to get it silky and straight, like someone's is naturally. Y'know all it takes for Ethan's is -"
"Aha! Brian May! Thats who I was thinking off," Thomas exclaims.
"Brian May?" Damiano murmurs, not recognizing the name. "Oh, psh, from Queen, obviously! Yeah, I see it." Damiano, at least has the good sense to wince as soon as he speaks. Thomas seems oblivious to the notion that being compared to a man born in the 40s wasn't a compliment.
"And, y'know, what people don't get about him as a guitarist..." You let Thomas drone on about music facts down the hall from you, at least distracting Damiano. Victoria watches your face as you wrestle with your hair, braking the only elastic in sight. You let out a growl of frustration and hear Ethan knocking on the door frame.
"Cara mia, I'm sorry about them. I would've warned you we were coming. I tried to talk them out of it, but -"
"Wait, wait. Y/n shouldn't have to spend an hour on her hair every time she comes in contact with another person. Thats exhausting!" You let out a snort, laughing at the painful accuracy of Vic's statement. "I think it's beautiful and Thomas doesn't know how to talk to other human beings, but comparing you to one of his favorite guitarists is a huge compliment because he's an idiot. Damiano likes the sound of his own voice and Ethan knows you're too good for him, so let me get you a goddamn glass of wine!"
She leaves the room, on a mission. You hear both Damiano and Thomas make noises of dissent and know its Victoria causing them some kind of inconvenience as retribution on your behalf. Ethan steps into the bathroom behind you, tucking the tag into your shirt, sweeping your hair off of one shoulder, and kissing the skin.
"Your beautiful, beautiful hair," he declares, softly. You smile, because theres no arguing with him on this. Ethan loves your hair, even when it gets in his mouth while you're cuddling.
"They're more annoying than I remember." As if on cue, you hear something shatter on the kitchen floor, probably a wine glass.
"Every day they are my burden and you are my reprieve," he jokes, kissing all the way up your neck. He strokes you head, coaxing the hair back. When it's manageable enough, Ethan uses the hair tie on his wrist to secure it back. You sigh, letting the tension go and allowing yourself to smile.
"So, how was the studio today?" Ethan opens his mouth the answer, but is interrupted by Victoria's husky voice.
"I got your wine y/n! Is it safe to come back? You're not fucking in there right?" Ethan dissolves into disbelieving laughter from the mortification. He props is forearm against the wall and hangs his head, eyes scrunched closed.
"Make them leave," you request.
"If only I could."
