not to keep harping on but definitely the complaint i see that really sticks in my craw is that the only reason or the main reason robb planned to banish catelyn to seaguard was because of their argument over jon. it’s certainly a factor but they have spent the entire war arguing over every decision robb makes! ned tells robb “keep your mother in your council” but robb really does not! he has her there, yes, he lets her speak, yes, but oftentimes he will disregard her advice without any appeasement, misstep badly, and be worse off politically in the exact way she warned him of. she’s not the only person he blows off - he’s not exactly nice to edmure either, for example - but cat is right when she suspects there’s an element of “kings are not supposed to have mothers” and “wedded to his war" and she clocks this long before the argument over jon! robb tries to get rid of her at the beginning of a clash of kings when all cat has done is urge him to continue peaceful negotiations with the lannisters!

robb is angry because he’s in over his head and he knows it, and it's got very little to do with jon! robb is losing this war and his best friend was the son of a man who crowned himself and lost the war!! robb knows exactly what’s going to happen to the north if he loses and despite everything, he cannot seem to win despite being a near prodigy in battle tactics. and here his mother has been this whole time, fighting him on every front - just like the lords but he cant punish them for disagreeing can he? - and being so frustratingly right about more things than his lords, and now they’re picking at this wound in their family that has never been allowed to heal and a lot of resentment that both robb and catelyn are feeling at their general situation gets focused in on each other. this is such a tully thing too (pls remember these are canonically unpleasant people!) because look at lysa projecting years of resentment onto sansa, look at the entire cat, hoster, edmure situation, or even hoster & blackfish’s relationship. family is so important to them but in times of stress, “doing everything for family” becomes an anchor pulling them down, until the only thing left is to lash out at each other.

most of the lords are happy to let this nonsense play out! catelyn does not even have the privilege maege & dacey mormont do at being head of their own house - she’s just a wife, just a mother, just a first born daughter. when she disagrees, they don’t see an equal arguing with them, they see a woman sticking her nose where it doesn’t belong. they do not give a single solitary shit about like, ~the plight of bastards~ they just believe, like robb, that sansa is currently “tainted” by her marriage to a lannister and can’t be allowed to inherit, that arya is dead, that the boys are dead, that jeyne is not yet pregnant, and a bastard boy castle raised who looks like ned is better than no boy at all (see edric storm, addam of hull, and larence snow). these men have not spent the last fourteen years cooking in their resentment over this situation the way catelyn and robb have!

jon is a reason. but so is rickard karstark, jaime lannister, willem lannister, tion frey, renly baratheon, walder frey, and theon greyjoy. ned is a reason as well, and bran, sansa, rickon, arya, hoster, edmure, perhaps even lysa and sweetrobin. jon is the final straw but robb isn’t (only) sending catelyn away because of some righteous fury on his brother’s behalf! he’s sending her away because she is an easy, socially acceptable target for all his frustrations and failures and fears that he can project on, and punish, in a way he cannot punish his enemies, his lords, or himself.

and catelyn is as always very aware of the deeper motivations in her son’s mind, and resentful that she doesn’t have the power to push back; she’s just a mother, after all.

Ted Raimi as Father Tulli - The Damned Thing (Masters of Horror S2E1)

When Addam is in the Riverlands, he ends up meeting another pair of brothers who can be compared to him and Alyn. The Tully brothers actually present a situation that might have occurred with the Velaryon brothers had things gone differently.

Kermit is described as the chief commander of the army that descended on King’s Landing. He is known to have a lively personality and also shown to be a person who cares about justice. As his family’s heir, Kermit wants to prove himself, and once the war ends, he dutifully returns back home to his seat at Riverrun. This isn’t too different from Addam, the new heir to Driftmark, who cares about such things as justice and duty. He leads his own army to Tumbleton. Since Addam was described as glib of tongue, that suggests a charming/friendly personality.

Meanwhile, Oscar enjoys adventure and the glory of battle. He is said to have a prickly pride common in second sons. At the end of the war, Oscar takes ship to the Free Cities to make a new living on his own terms. Alyn has an adventurous nature and wants to live his life without restraints. He can be quite irritable at times. Though he does happily enjoy the admiration he gets from his victories in battle. Travelling around with his fleet is a common occurrence for Alyn.

If Addam hadn’t died, I could see a scenario where Alyn just became an admiral in his older brother’s fleet or perhaps just does his own thing altogether. As Alyn himself said, he doesn’t particularly care for the fiscal/administrative duties but he does love sailing his ships. Instead, he ended up having to take up his older brother’s mantle. This leads to him chafing against his duty but still doing it, and at the same time, craving that freedom that sailing away from home gives him. Unlike Alyn, Oscar did get to live his life of adventure because his own older brother, Kermit, had taken over the position as the new head of the family. So Alyn ends up occupying the dual role that Kermit & Oscar hold.

“Needle wouldn’t break,” Arya said defiantly, but her voice betrayed her words.

Ted Raimi's characters as cats (Part 1)

Just recently I made this twitter thread in Russian and decided "why not duplicate my best idea on tumblr", so here I am! (The only difference will be that through the Randomizer I changed the sequence of characters.) 1. Lonely cat

It will take you a long time to ingratiate yourself with his trust. He obviously dealt with bad hosts and is not sure that you need him too, so he sits as far away as possible and tries not to catch the eye. He may be frightened when you stroke him for the first time, but once he gets used to you, he will often lie on your lap.

2. Helper cat

Quiet and only grabs your attention on business. Non-conflict, but you can’t call affectionate either. He's just doing his job for which he's trained. You can quickly become attached to him, however, whether you will achieve his full trust and whether he will become attached to you is an open question.

Aggressive cat

Most fights and you have to hide from him. Definitely took one veterinarian's eye and you'll lose liters of blood trying to deal with him. If there are other pets in the house, then they are finished. And then you.

4. Quiet kitten

He does not hiss, does not fight, but willingly goes to communicate, showing attention through rubbing against your legs. The same lump that falls on all your sore spots and really helps these. It will lick your scratches, trying to help, but in the end it will simply get in the way.

5. Bully kitten

Stole all your bras and hid them in my hiding places. Most likely he drags his couch around the house, and in the spring he screams louder than a siren. Even if he is castrated, it will not help. He pretends to be proud and does not want affection, but if you run a finger along his back, then he is already lying and purring. Sometimes you may find that he is staring into an empty corner.

6. Clueless cat

Silly but loyal. He will follow you on your heels, because otherwise he will be lost. Starts calling for you while standing in the middle of the room because he has lost sight of you. funny walk. He only knows the "Bring" command, but this is not a dog, so he brings not abandoned toys, but someone's corpses.

7. Huckster cat

He negotiated his castration and is with you in a mutually beneficial relationship. As you think. Bargaining with you for food and always getting more than the norm. You are physically unable to refuse him, he knows this and takes advantage of the position.

8. Harmful cat

At first seemed normal, and then you found out that he was once buried in a pet cemetery near a cursed church and he returned with not the best intentions. If you beg him, he will allow you to stroke his head, but nothing more. He scratches all the guests and chases the children.

9. Lost kitten

You found him in a dump and took him home out of pity. As a result, this punk smashed your apartment, shit everywhere and somehow spilled all the beer, but you will not find puddles. And him too. He got lost again! Give this kitten a mint, and then close all the doors and windows so that he does not run away and get lost again.

10. Tired cat

You adopted him from a shelter and knew that it would not be easy with him. Often scratched, hissed and hid from you, but when you have gained his trust, he has become a constant guest in your arms and clings to your clothes with claws when you try to remove him from you.
