The Ice Skating Rink is a twenty minute drive away, on the fringes of the city. Joël, Anita, Jared and Angus all abstain from getting onto the ice and Anya tries to opt out as well, she doesn't have much experience ice-skating and her hangover is making her feel very wobbly, except the triplets protest so loudly she has to give in. They apparently have been coming here for years and are all extremely competent, especially Henrietta, who has been telling Anya all morning that she is going to be a professional figure skater when she isn't busy being a professional ballerina-slash-guitarist.

Roy, of course, is in his element.

Just thinking of a post-Greywaren Pynch tonight. They end up attending some local charity gala (because Adam still feels guilty sometimes about being married to a millionaire esp one whose millions came from scams, thanks Niall! and has to give back to kids with backgrounds similar to him) Ronan starts kissing Adam’s knuckles when he gets bored. Some Mrs Gansey- type society lady remarks “ oh how sweet and chivalrous!” but it’s really Ronan letting Adam know he wants to get railed against the BMW in the Barnes driveway or an abandoned parking lot, lmao.

I'm rereading the Raven cycle and as someone who moved to another country far away from what is supposed to be my home, the themes of home really do hit hard.

Gansey, searching for a place to call home ever since he was a child, only to realize it might be people instead,

Blue, having a safe space to return to and feeling like she belongs while simultaneously missing something crucial she can't name,

Adam, escaping his abusive father, his home that never felt like one, to carve his own space in the world where he truly feels like he is a person and

Ronan, having had such a beautiful childhood home for it only to be taken away from him but he held onto the concept of home he built in his head and in the end it paid off because he got it back and he gained a new home along the way amongst his friends.

They all redefine their notion of home throughout the series and I think they are able to (re)claim places as their homes because they found homes in each other that comforted them when their spaces couldn't.

Roy and the rest of his entourage arrive about forty minutes later in a black seven-seater SUV that he has leased for the weekend. The triplets tumble out and immediately start tearing around the garden with Brutus in good-natured pursuit, while Angus disappears into Jared’s room, presumably to play video games. Saffron lurks by the front door while Roy and Joël indulge in their ritualistic let’s- pretend- to- give-each- other- shit  routine and Anya exclaims and coos over Alice, while Anita smiles without showing her teeth. Anya finally stops swooning over Alice long enough to notice Saffron, and to Saffron’s alarm and secret delight bounds over to her and envelops her in a hug.

“Saffy!“ she says. “Oh my God, I’m sooooo hung over. Help me!”

“I just made coffee,” says Saffron. “Would you like some?”

“Yes! You’re literally a life saver,” says Anya, then leans forward to whisper in her ear. “Let’s go and drink it somewhere private so you can tell me everything that’s been happening with that married man of yours. Yeah?”
