Mhhh. I'm not sure. I really like the dinner scene, with Lestat talking about his family, and the line

"There's an ocean between Christ and myself"

really struck me. Because there is a lot in there once more.

Because Lestat wanted to be good, he wanted to be saved. God didn't listen to his prayers, not when he prayed to be saved from his abusive family, from their beatings. He panicked at the futility of life, the "Dark Moment", the "Witches' Place", the executions. He called to God when Magnus abducted him and raped him into vampirism.

The Lestat at that table is very disillusioned already. Fighting with himself, and the little flame of wanting-to-believe that is still left, deep within, and which will later lead him to go head to head with the (supposed) Devil, angels and Christ incarnate.

It's also a statement which indicates that he has tried to leave that life behind, as prompted by Marius, is trying to build a new life there, in New Orleans.

That line was the moment in the show when I knew I would love it, to bits and pieces.
