thinking about crossdresser mark who's always pretended to be a man, even back in bern, because her parents drilled it into her head that it's Not Safe and it was their condition for her leaving (and they never learned she joined the military and deserted it) so she never talks because her voice is really soft and lyn is the first person she can talk to

and they joke about how sain and florina's behavior would change if they knew she was actually a gIrl all along

and eliwood actually finds out before hector, at the end of the war, because lyn invites mark to stay at caelin for a bit before she leaves to wander again and he runs into this brunette who happens to be lyn's lady in waiting, while he's visiting his lover, and marceline just Knows Things

like she'll randomly pop up, leave him a gift, and attribute it to lyn, but when he talks to lyn, she's always desperately trying to pretend that she actually did ask the woman do it because mark is bad about filling her in on this stuff

and once, lyn slips up and calls her mark instead marceline. eliwood puts it together after that, not believing her excuse that they're siblings, so the next time mark tries to do something for him, he quietly tells her he knows and before he can continue, she just sits down next to him with a soft "hi" and then just spills her background to him

but hector only learns two years later when a strange woman shows up at his doorstep, asking to see lyn because she and eliwood are staying at hector's for a bit, and he's strolling around the castle, taking a break, when he sees this.

so he goes up and tries to gauge if she's actually lyn's friend.

but this woman latches onto his arm and starts babbling a mile a minute about lyn and how she heard about the miscarriage and how this isn't exactly the first time she's missed out on something important that is bad and not good, and she ran over as soon as she heard but what does she even say and is lyn okay?? is eliwood okay??

hector's like, "who the hell is this?"

and he subtly tries to figure out who she is because she seems to know lyn and actually seems to know him too because once she catches her breath, she starts quizzing him on how he's been doing after uther's death and managing ostia and have you been eating okay—you haven't gone fighting recently, have you?

which is a weird thing to ask unless she knows about armads and she's subtly trying to ask if he's going to die soon, because most people would just ask if he's been sick since he has family history of dying young

but for the life of him, he can't recall her until he looks at her hair and realizes it's the same shade as mark's and then it just...slips from him

"mark?"

and she's like, "huh?"

so he's about to backpeddle, apologize, and explain he doesn't know who she is, until she's like "oops, i forgot to tell you. actually, i'm a girl. my real name is marceline"

which he sort of remembers as lyn's lady in waiting who never showed to the wedding and he remembers grumbling about it to mark but she was all weird about it

and he's like "oh"

his ears are beet red and she's not looking at him so for the guards who can't hear what's being said, but clearly see a woman clinging onto their lord and him being receptive to holding her hand afterwards because she's scared about lyn and he's dragging her to the grieving couple but the guards don't know that

and that is a story that's passed down to a young lilina after being modified to cut out the parts about her mom being the tactician that two countries nearly went to war over, who was said to have simply disappeared afterwards—about how her parents reunited and their love story started

and the parts about how she was actually that person are something lilina only discovers after she returns to ostia and she's going through her dad's stuff, and she finds her mom's old journals

after the parts she knows, like being saved by aunt lyn, there are little notes about like, klein's parents and his brother and sue's dad and fir's parents and igrene's dad and even about igrene! and notes about tactics and how she just wants everyone survive, but especially aunt lyn

and then there's this little passage about her dad where her mom's like "idk man, i shouldn't feel this way, but i kind of felt hurt that he told me i could leave. i mean, i can't compare to eliwood and he'd definitely tell lyn that, but it still sucks but i guess it's nice he acknowledges me"

and then she gets to like, the fifth volume and her mom's like "yeah, so i decided living as a woman is easier than having to put up with people wanting me to work for them when i don't want to and the only reason i helped eliwood was because he helped lyn and lyn's my bestie"

lilina puts together that her mom was actually famous and when she visits roy, she asks his dad about it, which he confirms.

and it's just something that's nagged at me a lot, like lilina realizing there was a whole other side to her mom she never knew about and there's no way for her to talk to her about it because her mom died to an illness a few years ago

(until she gets to askr, then she goes after her mom so hard that hector briefly gets worried that she might have a thing for "mark" and tries to dissuade her from it.

so lilina has to explain to her dad that she's just curious about "him" because she never met "him" and it sounds like "he" was a good friend of his

the effort to make it seem like they're unrelated becomes a moot point because somehow, little lilina stumbles across mark without a hood, maybe when she's bathing and it's the first time little lilina has seen her because usually, her dad doesn't let her take baths this late at night, and she's like "that's mommy! mommy's here." and she runs around the place telling everyone about her mommy

and older hector is profusely apologetic about it once he hears about this

eliwood frequently reminds him of the fact he once thought his daughter had a crush on her mom because it's lowkey funny. lyn doesn't start it, not because she doesn't think it's hilarious, but because it's way easier to laugh if her hubby's the one doing the teasing, but she does egg eliwood on)

Uther / Ridley Fluff Alphabet

(Ridley is my oc who takes the place of Mark)

A ctivities - What do they like to do with their s/o? How do they spend their free time with them?

Neither of them have much free time, and most of the time they only see each other while they are in the middle of working. Uther with his marquess responsibilities, and Ridley with their advisor role. When they don’t see other during work, they only see each other during early morning or late night.

Uther likes to go on walks to clear his mind, and Ridley often joins him. He always is willing to slow down for Ridley to catch up with him.

Ridley enjoys just sitting with Uther. As long as they are in the same room together, he’s happy.

B eauty - What do they admire about their s/o? What do they think is beautiful about them?

Uther loves Ridley’s eyes. He loves the four different shades in them. Uther also likes the way Ridley’s ears turn red when he blushes, and how his ears twitch when he gets embarrassed.

Ridley loves Uther’s hair; he runs his hands through his hair whenever he can. He also finds when Uther wears his reading glasses quiet attractive.

C omfort - How would they help their s/o when they feel down/have a panic attack etc.?

When Ridley is feeling down, Uther will just hold him. He knows Ridley isn’t big on talk when he doesn’t feel well, but the mankete still likes to be close to his lover.

Ridley might not be the best with understanding other’s emotions, but he will spend hours sitting with Uther when he’s feeling down. Whether they are sitting in silence or they’re talking, it’s hard to pull them apart from each other.

D reams - How do they picture their future with their s/o?

Uther knows he pass before Ridley. Ridley’s dragon blood gives him near eternal youth, but he wants to remain by Ridley’s side. He wants to raise their daughter, Finnley, together, and he wants to protect his homeland with Ridley by his side.

Ridley sees himself watching Uther grow older and older as he remained young. However, he doesn’t plan on leaving Ostia until Uther passes,, hopefully years down the line. He tries not to think about Uther passing one day.

E qual - Are they the dominant one in the relationship, or rather passive?

They view themselves as equal in their relationship. Neither really outshines the other when it comes to who leads the relationship. However, Ridley is more likely to follow with whatever Uther wants when it comes to minor things.

F ight - Would they be easy to forgive their s/o? How are they fighting?

They rarely right with each other. If they do, it’s over very small things that don’t really matter in the end. Ridley forgives Uther at the end of arguments a little easier than Uther does Ridley.

G ratitude - How grateful are they in general? Are they aware of what their s/o is doing for them?

Uther is very grateful that Ridley is around. He understands Ridley has a longer life span, and that he will die before Ridley. He understands that his lover is very important as the heir of his mankete clan, but that he choose to stay in Otsia with him.

Ridley is very aware it’s hard to have a relationship with marquess and that Uther is often busy with political things. He has all the time in the world to wait for Uther to have free time, and he will do as much as he can to lessen Uther’s job.

H onesty - Do they have secrets they hide from their s/o? Or do they share everything?

They are both very open with one another, and neither like to hide anyone from each other. Even when they talk about what Ridley will do when Uther moves on.

I nspiration - Did their s/o change them somehow, or the other way around? Like trying out new things or helped them overcome personal problems?

Without Ridley, Uther would have likely ended up dead from his illness. He is forever grateful that Ridley gave him that medicine. With his second chance of life, he wishes live it to its fullest.

Ridley used to be very closed off, opening for very few people. Even when he was traveling with Lyn and company, he had high walls around him. With Uther, he doesn’t feel the need to have said walls. He might still be closed off to others some, but Uther helps him break them down completely every day.

J ealousy - Do they get jealous easily? How do they deal with it?

Uther doesn’t fell jealous often. He trusts Ridley, and he doesn’t feel the need to doubt him.

Ridley gets jealous a little more often. He can’t help it as a ‘non noble’ in the eyes of Ostia’s nobles. He hides it well in public, but becomes clingy to Uther immediately when they’re alone.

K iss - Are they a good kisser? What was the first kiss like?

Uther is an experienced kisser. He has had a few relationships in his life time.

Ridley had one relationship before Uther and has kissed before, but he was still nervous knowing his lover was older.

Uther initiated their first kiss. He went slow and gave Ridley plenty of chances to pull away if he wanted. Ridley was bright red during it.

L ove Confession - How would they confess to their s/o?

Ridley is the one who confesses his love for Uher first.

M arriage - Do they want to get married? How do they propose? What would the marriage be like?

Neither of them care if they get married or not, but they do eventually get married with Uther’s status as Marquess. The proposal was a private moment one night where Uther asked Ridley as he was getting ready for sleep. Their marriage is just like their relationship before marriage, just without nobles complaining about Uther getting up in age without getting married.

N icknames - What do they call their s/o?

Uther uses sweet petnames such as ‘love’ and ‘dear’

Ridley uses less serious petnames, but Uther finds them fun. He calls him things such as ‘blue’ or ‘specs’(when he’s wearing his glasses)

O n Cloud Nine - What are they like when they are in love? Is it obvious for others? How do they express their feelings?

It is very obviously to everyone around how in love Uther is. Oswin and Hector have both pointed how Uther will stare at Ridley, especially during meeting when he shouldn’t be. He actively expresses his feelings through small acts of service he does through out the day when he can.

Ridley doesn’t stare like Uther does, but people can easily tell by how he talks about Uther. He speaks with a lot of fondness that anyone would be able to tell how much he cares about his lover. Ridley shows his love through words mostly, giving his thoughts on important matters or asking about Uther’s day.

P DA - Are they upfront about their relationship? Do they brag with their s/o in front of others? Or are they rather shy to kiss etc. when others are watching?

Both are very reserved about their relationship, and they don’t talk about it unless with other loves ones. They will kiss each other or show other small affections towards each other in front of others, but they don’t make a big deal about it.

Q uirk - Some random ability they have that’s beneficial in a relationship.

Ridley has the ability to turn into a small dragon due to hiss mankete blood. Uther likes to hold dragon Ridley as a way to calm down from a stressful day.

Uther has a decent singing voice. It’s a surprise at first when Ridley first hear this, but he now asks Uther to sing to destress, like his Uther uses dragon Ridley

R omance - How romantic are they? What would they do to make their s/o happy? Cliché or rather creative?

Uther is very cliché. He taught how to court and how to show romance by nobles, and that’s the only way he knows how to show feelings. Uther likes to give Ridley small things like flowers or books, and it changes his mood every time.

Ridley doesn’t know how to show his emotions well, being raised away from civilization. He’s very easy to fluster, and he doesn’t know how to word his own feelings. Ridley just sits in the same room as Uther when he can, making him happy.

S upport - Are they helping their s/o achieve their goals? Do they believe in them?

Ridley doesn’t have much goals himself. He know he will have a long life to live, and he has plenty of time to do things. He just enjoys reading books about the world around him. Uther helps him by keeping the library well stocked with new books.

Uther has a goal to make Ostiaa better place and to open better communications within the nation of Lycia. Ridley is always beside him with every move he make, and Ridley advises him the best he can.

T hrill - Do they need to try out new things to spice out your relationship? Or do they prefer a certain routine?

Both Ridley and Uther are fine with the same routine, and they act on it most of the time. Neither really like change.

U nderstanding - How good do they know their partner? Are they empathetic?

They know each other very well, and they vibe well with each other. Sometimes Hector is convinced they can read each other’s mind with how well they know each other.

V alue - How important is the relationship to them? What is it’s worth in comparison to other things in their life?

Their relationship is very important to Uther. He will do everything he can for their relationship. Otsia is important to him as well, but if it came down to it, he trusts it in Hector’s hand.

Ridley gave up his life with his family on Valor to be with Uther. Wherever Uther goes, Ridley will follow, no questions asked.

W ild Card - A random Fluff Headcanon

Ridley gave Uther one of his scales as a courting gift so that ‘they can always be together in someway’, and Uther had that scale turned into a necklace so that he could wear it

X OXO - Are they very affectionate? Do they love to kiss and cuddle?

They are very affection to each other when they’re alone. Ridley likes to sit in Uther’s lap or lay on top of him when he can. Uther likes to kiss more than Ridley does, whether on the lip or other places on his face.

Y earning - How will they cope when they’re missing their partner?

Uther silently yearns for Ridley. He will think about him while working throughout the day, but he doesn’t vocalize it.

Ridley also silently yearns, but on bad days, he can be found in their room, holding onto something of Uther’s(like a shirt).

Z eal - Are they willing to go to great lenghts for the relationship? If so, what kind of?

Uther will do what he can to keep the relationship going. However, he won’t leave his position as marquess as Ostia also means a great deal to him.

Ridley gave up a lot to be in a relationship with Uther. He gave up his love of traveling to stay in Ostia. He left his clan as well. While he misses his freedom, he loves Uther and is happy to stay.
