Ghosted (dir. Dexter Fletcher).
Apple’s action spy rom-com reteams Chris Evans and Ana de Armas as fast lovers thrust into globetrotting danger when it’s revealed the latter is a high-level CIA operative. This crucial piece of information sort of explains why she “ghosted” him despite a seemingly magical first date meet-cute. It’s a fun (albeit unoriginal) concept starring two attractive leads. Too bad so much of the film feels rather generic or blandly executed from the glossy sense of a rushed (also problematic) romance to the fairly lazily drawn together spy/chase elements.

i learned that Marilyn Monroe had 12 abortions
Despite being a Hollywood icon, many basic details about Marilyn Monroe's life and death remain unknown.
The Netflix original movie "Blonde," featuring Ana de Armas, rekindles interest in her rise to fame and her relationships with men.
However, her legacy still leaves people curious about whether she had any children after her untimely passing.
The Genius and the Goddess: Arthur Miller & Marilyn Monroe is a biography on Marilyn and Miller written by Miller’s friend Jeffrey Meyers.
The author said that Marilyn had admitted to having a startling total of 12 abortions, however it is unclear whether or not she voluntarily had them.
In the past, Marilyn frequently engaged in extramarital affairs with men, and abortion was used as “birth control” in the 1950s.
“When selling herself, or with romantic liaisons and long-time lovers, Marilyn, always eager to please, meekly agreed to men’s demands to have sex without contraceptives and got pregnant again and again,” he writes.

Next month is the annual exhibitor showcase Cinemacon where movie studios tout their wares for the very anxious theater owners.
It has already been announced that Sony is sitting this year out, so no info on VENOM 3: THE LAST DANCE, to be released October 25, 2024.
While I assume there will be some changes to the lineup, so far it is shaping up to be:
OPENING DAY: International Day features a screening of Universal 80s series remake THE FALL GUY starring Ryan Gosling, Emily Blunt, Hannah Waddingham and Aaron Taylor-Johnson (who has said in a recent interview that it is a small role) ; directed by David Leitch (BULLET TRAIN, DEADPOOL 2)
DAY ONE: WB pulls up with their presentation "The Big Picture". It will be the first Cinemacon for James Gunn in his position as Co-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of DC Studios.
I expect a song and dance from Gunn about how awesome sauce the new DC film universe will be
I'll believe it when I see it.
Sure to tease SUPERMAN LEGACY which stars David Corenswet as the title character, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
JOKER: FOLIE A DEUX, BEETLEJUICE, BEETLEJUCE
MORE STUDIO OFFERINGS
Also, FURIOSA: A MAD MAX SAGA
, the supernatural horror film THE WATCHERS, directed and written by Ishana Night Shyamalan, daughter of M. Night
, M. Night Shymalan's TRAP starring Josh Hartnett, ALTO KNIGHTS with Robert DeNiro playing a dual role.
Certainly don't expect anything to hear about THE BATMAN sequel other than it won't shoot until 2025. There has been no reason provided, but some say there isn't even a script, others say it was because there were no soundstages available in London to shoot this year.
DAY TWO: ANGEL STUDIOS - The outfit behind SOUND OF FREEDOM.
I suspect they will tease SIGHT starring Greg Kinnear and BONHOEFFER (aka GOD'S SPY) about German theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer, starring August Diehl, Flula Borg and Clarke Peters.
LIONSGATE: I suspect they will tease Guy Ritchie's THE MINISTRY OF UNGENTLEMANLY WARFARE starring a pick-a-mix of men for all tastes - Henry Cavill, Alan Ritchson, Alex Pettyfer, Henry Golding and Hero Fiennes Tiffins
; the action-thriller BOY KILLS WORLD fronted by Bill Skarsgård and costarring Sharlto Copley, Andrew Koji (who is working like mad), Famke Janssen and Isaiah Mustafa.
Surely, another Bill Skarsgård film THE CROW with fka Twigs
; THE STRANGERS: CHAPTER 1, which is the third film in the franchise - doing a bit of FAST AND THE FURIOUS mathing. It stars Madelaine Petsch, Froy Guittierez and Gabriel Basso
At long last the BALLERINA has pliete into the spotlight. This JOHN WICK spinoff stars Ana De Armas, with Anjelica Huston reprising her role from JOHN WICK 2. It's direct by Len Wiseman who directed the UNDERWORLD films starring his ex-wife Kate Beckinsale.
BORDERLANDS, an action-comedy based on the game, brought to the screen by Eli Roth. Starring Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Black, Cate Blanchett, Haley Bennett and Édgar Ramírez, amongst others.
and WHITE BIRD, which is in the same universe as the excellent children geared film WONDER. It was due to come out in 2023 but was pushed back due to the actors strike.
UNIVERSAL / FOCUS FEATURES: I suspect teases for Dev Patel's directorial debut MONKEY MAN. The film was originally slated to go to Netflix but Jordan Peele, under his Monkey Paw shingle, bought it and took it to Universal so it could have a theatrical release. *Granted, Netflix does a theatrical release for most of their films in certain markets, but I get Peele's rationale.
Their Monsters Universe theatrical idea didn't work, but Universal has realized there is more than one way to skin a cat. They are creating a Universal Monsters themed area at their parks and their monster/horror film ABIGAIL is a re-imaging of DRACULA'S DAUGHTER. It stars Alisha Weir, Melissa Barrera and Dan Stevens and features Angus Cloud in one of his last roles.
THE FALL GUY most definitely will have a place. Same with THE BIKERIDERS (with Austin Butler, Tom Hardy, Jodie Comer, Norman Reedus, Mike Faist, etc.), which was a 20th Century (Disney owned) Film, and even though it was the first major film out the gate ahead of Oscars/Golden Globes' FYC season with a screening and Q&A held in L.A., the studio purposely stalled the engine and towed it off their schedule. It will now be distributed by Focus Features in the U.S., and Universal, internationally.
Other possible teases? DESPICABLE ME 4, TWISTERS, the standalone sequel to the 90s film TWISTERS
, horror film SPEAK NO EVIL starring James McAvoy and Mackenzie Davis
, WICKED: PART ONE and Sir Ridley Scott's GLADIATOR 2 with Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal.
There will also be a surprise screening; studio unknown.
DAY THREE: PARAMOUNT: Expected: the mixed live-action and animated comedy IF starring Ryan Reynolds, written/directed and produced by John Krasinski.
A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE, GLADIATOR 2 (though this is a co-production with Universal, so maybe Uni will tout it), SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 3, the unending production that is MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 8,
WALT DISNEY: Possible: THE FIRST OMEN, KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES
, MOANA 2, INSIDE OUT 2, DEADPOOL 3, ALIEN: ROMULUS, CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD and SNOW WHITE.
CinemaCon always closes out with their awards (which always ties into an upcoming release. Funny how that works.
So far the honourees are:
Star of the Year - Lupita Nyong'o (A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE)
Breakthrough Performer of the Year - Joseph Quinn (A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE)
CinemaCon Vanguard Award - Amy Poehler (INSIDE OUT 2)
Director of the Year - Shawn Levy (DEADPOOL AND WOLVERINE)

[ ana de armas, ciswoman, she/her ] — i’m pretty sure that was just leona cortez of the nouveaux riche that just passed by. the thirty four year old actress has been a resident here in the upper east side for two years. they’re known for being driven & compassionate, but i overheard someone mention they’re also naive & impulsive …considering they’re a virgo i think there might be some truth to it. but maybe that’s just because they’re always worried someone might find out about redacted. something about them has always reminded me of satin swaying in the wind, the smell of fresh roses & an overwheling storm of camera flashes but maybe that’s just because they like to sail & host movie nights in their free time.

summary
Living life surrounded by beauty can only be as fulfilling as you’re willing to accept. And for most of her life, Leona had to accept it. The daughter of a famous opera singer, Camila Cortez, her father was merely a stain on her legacy, although she never truly learned what that legacy should be. All she’s known was grand parties, long gowns, and champagne bottles. A life of superficial luxury, always pushed into the limelight. ‘Such a pretty girl’ they all mused as her mother pushed her in front of another camera, another magazine cover sold all over Cuba. She should’ve been happy. Attention, money, privilege - it all flew into her lap. However, Leona chose to fly across the Gulf of Mexico with a man called Scott Sanders. At 22, he was twelve years her senior, an established Hollywood star and known for the arm candy he dragged across Los Angeles. However, the tabloids exploded when they announced their marriage. No one truly expected him to settle down, especially not with a young cuban actress who barely made it on the screen. Leona found herself at the side of a shining star - the media had a field day which turned into a hurricane of flashing bulbs when Scott was caught cheating only a few months later. The young Leona was left to fend for herself, a task larger than anything she had ever taken on. You see, soft women had to be strong and Leona was the softest. In love with the idea of love, always chasing validation and acceptance, her heart was open, her skin thin and all this talent bubbled within her. A talent that eventually put her on the big screen.
More roles came in and so did more men. Another role was to be taken, another marriage was to be ended. She was married three times, almost four but her latest engagement fell through. But none of it ever stopped her. Naive? Perhaps. But never afraid to fail. And that was her biggest asset. Taking on new challenges and roles solidified her right to be on the movie screen and one of those opportunities changed her life forever. Being cast as the lead in an upcoming and anticipated book adaptation opened a door for Leona she’d never really get to close. It was her legacy. One that was stained when allegations were made against the author of the book which skyrocketed her career, someone Leona was close to and always publicly supported.
Moving from LA to New York, was her attempt to step away from the scandal, a blank page that she could fill out as she pleased. Interviews had to be given, it was a PR nightmare as people wanted to know if she had known all along and what her role in all of it was. But frankly, Leona was simply tired of any men being associated with her name. Her mother always pushed her to have the cameras on her and this time she'd achieve it again with her talent - not with gossip.

what i listened to in june 2024!
total albums: 6 top 3 albums: damn. (kendrick lamar), souvlaki (slowdive), e (ecco2k) click read more to see full reviews :D
Damn. - Kendrick Lamar (2017)
Fav song: Love.
Immediately I love how this album is a different sound from TPAB, including a clip of a reaction to a lyric from Alright at the end of BLOOD. It’s a great introduction to the album. After listening to the album in full, I think it’s a great follow up to TPAB. Kenrick says his thoughts on the reaction to that album, reflecting on how he tried bringing awareness to black people’s struggles and got labeled as someone who was making the problems worse. So he talks about his own experiences more on this album, basically saying “this is my real life, not some story demonizing black people”. It’s insane to me that this album won a Pulitzer prize, and it fully deserves it. The lyricism is on another level, taking multiple listens to fully understand. Beyond just the lyrics, the music on this album is a really beautiful melding of the sound of GKMC and TPAB. There’s a really unique atmosphere as well that adds to the entire album. The features are used perfectly, and I like the sort of cyclical nature of the album, with the album ending where it starts. I feel like I’m running out of new ways to compliment Kendrick because every album of his I listen to just knocks it out of the park.
Ranking: 9/10
New Superheroes & Demos - You Love Her (2015)
Fav song: 2007
This album is a great mid-2010s digital hardcore album. It’s unique from other digital hardcore music I’ve heard in a way that’s very fun. It has strong cyberpunk vibes, aided by the female vocals that make me think of Ana de Armas’ character in Blade 2049. You Love Her’s production is excellent, always staying in the same pocket that gives me those strong cyberpunk vibes. I also thoroughly enjoy the mix of completely instrumental tracks and tracks with vocals that are either mixed in or provided by a vocalist. All the vocals are very different from each other, giving the vibe of this being a soundtrack for a piece of media. I’d love a game or movie scored by You Love Her, and I’m very excited to check the rest of his stuff out.
Rating: 8/10
Hex Dealer - Lip Critic (2024)
Fav song: Bork Pelly
This is a really good breakbeat album that has punk and club influences. This album reminds me a bit of The Garden and Lustsickpuppy. I honestly don’t have much to say because all the songs stayed in a very similar sound, with some sounding more electronic than others. I do like the main vocalists’ voice, it’s kinda unique for this type of music. Easily music I can just throw on and jam to.
Rating: 7/10
Bejible - Bejalvin (2023)
Fav song: Box Cutter Vasectomy
This album is like if you turned Queef Jerky up to 11. It’s very heavy electronic music with some very good rapping that also gets pretty silly. This is the type of music that is perfect for djing at a rave and I’d love to see it live (spoiler alert: I did). Overall, two thumbs up from me.
Rating: 7/10
E - Ecco2k (2019)
Fav song: Time
This album is essentially my introduction to drain as a genre. I’m obsessed with the ethereal, dreamy, and airy vibe of this album. It feels like floating through the clouds. And not just white fluffy clouds, but grayer, storm clouds too. The electronic moments added a very welcome variety to the sound of the album, keeping it from sounding to monotonous. Ecco’s voice is perfect for the mood of the album, just high enough to fit with the airy nature, and low enough to be distinct from the music. The choral backing vocals help really elevate the music. Also, I really like the inclusion of a short, spoken voice track not quite in the middle of the album. It makes the structure of the album more interesting. Overall, I really liked this album! The only complaint that I have is that I wish it was longer (it’s only 30 minutes). But I’m excited to listen to more of Ecco’s music and drain gang in general.
Rating: 8/10
Souvlaki - Slowdive (1992)
Fav song: When The Sun Hits
I’m preaching to the choir when I say this is such a good album and a quintessential shoegaze album, but that's because it's true! It’s perfectly atmospheric and hazy, feeling like sunlight filtering through a fall morning fog. The vocals are so dreamy and have a yearning quality to them that's almost romantic. I’m sure this album sounds fantastic on vinyl, and I’d love to own it someday. I will be listening to this again multiple times throughout the year.
Rating: 9/10

In this edition of yet another movie I finally got around to seeing, I watched The Gray Man last weekend and I liked it! It's definitely bombastic action, which I'm finding I enjoy once but don't necessarily need/want to rewatch. I have rewatched other parts of the movie, though. I think they did an amazing job with the cast, especially with Chris Evans having the time of his life as a sociopath. That man spent so long being Captain Goody Two-Shoes, he deserves to go wild in a role if he wants to.
I didn't remember the director when I started it, and I kept thinking "Man, this feels so much like CA: Winter Soldier. Even the music!" Then I finally looked it up and saw it was not only the Russo brothers directing, but Henry Jackson composing. They clearly have a vibe they all like and they're good at it.
Both this movie and The Fall Guy have given me even more appreciation for Ryan Gosling's acting skills because they feature one of my greatest weaknesses: the guy who's at the end of his rope (physically and mentally) but trying to hold it together. I just eat that shit up. (Also a big fan of the tough guy/killer who actually has a heart.)
That scene in the vet's office? The way his voice cracks on "jail" hurts me every time. Ana de Armas is no slouch either, giving so much emotion without saying anything at all. *chef's kiss* It reminded me of the boat scene from The Fall Guy, where, again, Gosling is packing a lot of emotion into excellent delivery.

what were your top 10 LEAST FAVORITE movies of 2023 (so far....)
Oh, OLIVIA. Off to your letterboxd I go!!!
But some immediate ... recent... additions:
Maestro--This is the most obnoxiously Oscar bait-y, vanity project-y movie I've seen in a long time. Like, I'm not inherently opposed to Oscar bait, I think a movie can be Oscar bait and also good. But this... I'm not super impressed by Carey or Bradley in general (I did love him with ASIB but I think he benefited from several external factors) and here??? Dry as a bone. She was better than him, but WHO WOULDN'T BE because he was giving the most try hard, bullshit performance. And cutting down Bernstein's sexuality to an OFFENSIVE and confusing degree. What even was Bernstein's relationship with Felicia? Where did that shit where she was all YOU'RE SO HATEFUL from??? I though she hated him because he was fucking around their entire marriage (even though the script implied she was... down? At one point?) and suddenly she's all YOU'RE HATEFUL AND YOU'RE GONNA DIE A LONELY OLD QUEEN. What??? And as someone who didn't know much about Bernstein going in beyond his sexuality, I feel like I still don't know much.
Priscilla--Similarly bad biopic anchored by a completely flat performance by a woman who's getting acclaim because she is the white girl of the week who everyone claims is so amazing and transformative because she has no distinguishing features and a flat affect everyone can project onto. Especially bad because Jacob Elordi can't maintain an accent to save his life and the movie was incapable of translating the incredible crush Priscilla would've felt underneath both his persona and his fame. I never got the sense of this guy's fame, and Elvis was INSANELY famous at his peak. I thought it was just bad, dude. And I frankly don't know why we felt the need for this liberation narrative when the sad truth is that Priscilla's entire career has been based on this idea that she's Elvis's widow (when they'd been divorced for years when he died and he was actually in a serious relationship with another woman when he died). And you know what? She has a right to that. I don't have an issue with that. I don't think she would've ever made as much money doing anything else, and he stole her childhood so go off. BUT. That does undermine a liberation narrative for me, and I can't get over it, especially because Priscilla has been so (willingly) in the press for the past couple of years.
Saltburn--Emerald Fennell cannot write a script and Emerald Fennell doesn't direct a super interesting movie, aside from some interesting (if not super original) visuals. I've already gone off about this movie. Barry gave a fun performance. Jacob gave him jack shit.
Anyone But You--I don't know if I'd even be as outraged about this if people didn't hype it up, but lol. It's dumb. It feels like a mid to bad romcom from 2005, which makes it worse in 2023. Finding out that the director/writer directed Easy A back in the day was suuuuch a reveal. He redid the retelling conceit, the Natasha Bedingfield deal, and the obnoxious vibes.
After Everything--Look, I didn't expect to like this, at all lol, but I did expect some laughs because I did in fact cry laughing at a couple of the other movies. BUT. TESSAH wasn't even in this for more than five minutes. Which, bless that actress, VALID. But this was like. Bad and not even bad with unintentionally funny moments??? It was mostly about Hardon??? No.
Your Place Or Mine--Can you believe this came out this year? They created a movie... so dry... and devoid of chemistry. A great example of why chemistry is important and how Hollywood has stopped caring.
Love Again--Sam Heughan. What happened. This is another one where I'm like you could've given me something. It was kind of a Celine Dion tribute piece with Celine as fairy godmother and I love Celine. But so boring. So forgettable.
Ghosted--Hideously bad. Ana de Armas is over for me lmao. I mean, she was already, but I was gonna give her a fun little romcom. Holy shit. Bad. Horrible. I kept waiting for a fun twist. NoPE!
What's Love Got to Do With It?--Bad, racist, I HATE its depiction of arranged marriage and the white bystanders gawking at it, ew ew ew hate.
Magic Mike's Last Dance--DUDE. DUDE WHAT THE FUCK WAS THIS. WHAT THE FUCK. HE DIDN'T EVEN STRIP. WHERE WAS THE STRIPPING. WHAT HAPPENED. This movie, to me, is literally the perfect encapsulation of how bad sexlessness has become in media. Can't even fucking watching a fucking Magic Mike movie without some ass. Jesus Christ. What's happened to the world.
