Today is a bittersweet day as I close a six and a half year chapter of my life at Second Harvest. I am grateful for my coworkers, donors and the beautiful souls I have met out in the community during that time. They have made me a better, more compassionate human being and I can't thank them enough for sharing their lives and experiences with me. I am excited for what's next and hope that I take their passion and dedication to my next chapter. I'm just going to live in my feelings for a few days. Don't mind me...it's just a little dusty in here...😭🥰 #feedinghope #fightinghunger https://www.instagram.com/p/Ce2QvebuLU-649YP4V9GrtqyuXWOAb7xdfrrAU0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

from @nutrition.accomplished • #9truths 👏🏻 • The Academy for Eating Disorders @aed_iced has released 9 TRUTHS about Weight and Eating Disorders (link in bio). 👆🏻 • As an experienced dietitian, who specializes in caring for those who are challenged with these diseases, I see the toll they take on individuals everyday. 🙇🏻‍♀️ • I also see the weight bias that is PREVALENT in our culture including healthcare settings. These 9 truths are so real to me and my practice, but unfortunately not well understood. 🙅🏻‍♀️ • I am so thankful for so many providers, individuals and associations who challenge the status quo! We deserve better! @cindybulik thank you for leading the way & teaching me so much at @uncschoolofmedicine! 🌟 • #academyofeatingdisorders @evelyntribole #intuitiveeating #haes #losehate #eatingdisorderrecovery #neda #feedinghope #eatingdisorderawareness #trustyourbody #hope #instagood #health #healthcare #insurance #healthsystem #beda #osfed #healthprofessionals #doctor #nurse #rd #rd2be #gi #eating #invisibleillness #recovery #odaat #loveyourself #wedeservebetter https://www.instagram.com/p/B7i1Br3FuaD/?igshid=1u4mv9ny71qwj

Happy #NEDAwareness Wednesday! I wanted to thank everybody for the awesome support you have shown me this week. Some of you have reached out to me to offer support and to talk about these tough issues, and I wanted to thank each and every one of you for it! And for the rest of you, thanks for indulging me by letting me blow up your home pages with these super long-captioned photos. To reiterate, I am posting to reduce the stigma of #eatingdisorders, and to speak out for both the males and females who deal with these. Also, I believe we need conversation to reduce the stigma that comes with admitting we all have problems. Today's photo from #NEDA's ED Awareness Week speaks to this. Eating Disorders affect nearly every race, ethnicity, and body type. And more often than we realize, women and men alike find themselves w/ an ED diagnosis. I have heard the figure that 10 million U.S. MEN are currently being treated for a clinically-significant disorder, and most experts believe that estimate to be way on the low side. The reason this happens is because there is a HUGE societal stigma that we place on males. Men tend to unfortunately think that if they admit to struggling with issues of weight control, nutrition, exercise, or self-esteem, then they are weak, failures as men, and perceived to be feminine by those around them. This leads to massive amounts of shame and self-loathing in these men, even more so than the "normal" amount of shame that comes to all people during disordered eating. I have felt this personally. Exhibit A: I have admittedly been terrified to admit to all of you that I am off for a semester of school to seek more advanced, stable treatment at a special center that treats eating disorders in men and women of all ages. It took this one special week, dedicated to open mindedness and courage, to motivate me to stop hiding from you all, my friends and support system. This is the the big point I want to hit home; EDs are just one example of problems that result from being too scared or shameful of our flaws to even be willing to admit that we have them. We all are imperfect, and all we need is too get a little better each day! #feedinghope
