CYMATICS: Science Vs. Music - Nigel Stanford
This Nigel Stanford video is essentially a "greatest hits" of physics-based audio visualization: Chladni plates, Hose pipe, ferro fluids, Ruben's tube, tesla coil lightning...
You’ve probably seen at least some of them before, it’s nicely done.

✨️ Name: glassjungle
✨️Pronouns: he/him
✨️Faction: Survivor (the baron didn't like him crashing randomly so he gave him a faction )
✨️Title: The Moon (Also nicknamed "The Overseer" by the cultists)
✨️Species: Ender dragon/ Warden (he is originally from the minecraft universe leave him alone lmao)
✨️Description: A prince from a long forgotten time where monsters and humans lived in peace before the humans attacked. The prince is a weird from dragon standards with scales like glass, legs of a moose guilded by a strange metal, the head of a tiger, the horns of a ram, the tail of a chameleon , the over sized paws of a lynx and the bite of the inland Taipan Despite his genes comprising of the two most dangerous species ever recorded he remains friendly and helpful as his reported "medic" role in the lands of old. His kindness and perseverance prevents him from hurting anyone cementing his role as a survivor. Though the cultist's cat's gaze at him tells a diffrent story , maybe the eye of darkness knows more than glass will tell us.

Me, remembering that pill bugs can filter heavy metals from soil:
My brain: You know what this means, don’t you?
Me: What-
My brain: You can make talpaedans part pill bug-
Me, working on amperi headcanons: Wait LET ME FINI-
I’ve gone over a few times that I like to think that talpaedans are techno-organic, less so being silicon or silicone based beings but being an integration of organic carbon materials and the more industrialised physiology of being a walking talking construction equipment. I have also previously made use of the whole ‘machine’ aspect of their natural biology to not only consider them as burrowers, but also as ant-like burrowers with haplodiplody, this form of sex-determination system being used to expand the combinations of construction equipment that an individual talpaedan might have, but also as a basis of which I form the sociopolitical building of talpaedan cities, in which case we have large city state colonies of ant inspired pangolins recreating feudalism Europe of the 10th-13th century.
But up - until this point - there was not quite a lot of circumstances that would allow for actual metallic components to not only present itself biologically but also do so naturally, so with the heavy metal eating pill bug there’s a source of extra inspiration. Oniscidae (apparently the more accurate name for pill bugs/rollie pollies and literally any name under the sun) can remove arsenic (which is actually a metalloid), cadmium, lead, and depending on sources also mercury from the soil; additional metals that can be extracted from soil are copper and zinc. The pill bug in question would crystallise these ions in their gut and create spherical deposits within them, but since we are not talking about the isopod alone surely it isn’t too much of a stretch to the idea that perhaps talpaedans can use these deposits within themselves to feed into the development of their most notable features, their built in equipment?
Assuming that Poiana Lüncas has these metals and that talpaedans would in fact filter for them, in real world human employed Earth uses of these metals can indeed be of fine use. Both arsenic and cadmium can be used as alloys and zinc specifically can galvanise other metals such as iron to prevent rusting, very significant indeed in industry, notably especially with large amounts of zinc can be used in hardware industries. Copper has a very notable use in electronics and wiring of which motors are included, let alone more refined wiring in TVs and radio. And argueably the more infamous of these metals (at least to a standard ‘basic’ level of understanding) we have mercury and lead, the former being used in many different industries for it’s ability to measure the change in temperature and pressure, and the latter for some solders, gasoline/petroleum and wonderfully hazardous cosmetic items that uninformed humanity has come to be harmed by.
ngl, spent a bit of time trying to find an oxygen-carrier of these metals that can feasibly make black blood but i literally do not know if the colour of oxides is in any way relevant to how oxygen-carrier bloodcells would actually be coloured as i’m not a chemist
But in highlighting these metals, I am not simply looking to see if a techno-organic talpaedan can have galvanised armour nor if they come built in with blood pressure monitors. No no no, I am saying more than what talpaedans eat but also what metals can talpaedans have easy access to in the development of technology, and how one might say that actually interacts with the ant-psychology of utterly fucking despising other colony.
Well-
Let’s say that google might be a little concerned about me learning about elements used in the construction of ammunition and radiation protection ehek-!
With the earth tilling that many developing talpaedans need to incorporate necessary metals into their diet, depending on the availabilty of said metals they may be an over abundance for food alone; especially with the pressure of competition of resources in combination with a general disdain for anything extracolonial, a factor that may lead to an escalation of tech development. There is an inherent baseline for technology in talpaedans that would already give their industrialisation a boost, in addition to the materials that may vary on quantity based on the region, colony size, and general population needs. Before long there are city states reinforcing their own barriers and expanding their borders for more and more materials - to consume and to create - to in fact increase and increase the tension between colonies so loud to the point pressure spills like a broken thermometer spills mercury and conflicts arise.
And when everything boils over do they realise that many have to balance the act of raising young and building more weapons, the factor that may in fact be the tipping point to realise that the colonies with the most resources are not only a threat but a threat that can overwhelm on the technological scale and the population number. In spite of how many colonies may indeed hate each other, it is more than worth it to them to compromise and in fact LIVE rather than be caught between the suddenly unveiling superpowers of the world that had previously lay unknown thanks to willful ignorance. Decimation of land is significantly reduced from cataclysmic to catastrophic as entire colonies are rased and in fact dug out into craters, many war-era alliances held to the modern day of Poiana Lüncas. A tithing - remnants of the treaties formed at the peak of desperation - of the youngest generation of adult men stands as both tradition and of appeasement, a colony trade and marriage across many different colonial alliances as a symbol of what had to be done before, sharing resources and rearing while the soldiers fought to live.
And all of this because they got a pill bug diet see this is why ants aren’t allowed to have materials for megaton bombs smh 😞

Vapor Eagle
First appearing in the Inner Sphere with the arrival of Clan Steel Viper, ComStar operatives were baffled by the intended purpose of the close-combat second-line garrison BattleMech they named the Goshawk for its unusual birdlike design. It wasn't until Clan culture became more understood that Inner Sphere observers figured out what the Clans called the Vapor Eagle was designed as a duelist for the one-on-one fights that are so prevalent in Clan society.
Largely seen only in the Steel Viper garrison forces, the Vapor Eagle was repurposed less as a dueling 'Mech and more a general combatant in the wake of the so-called Hegira War and Clan Jade Falcon's ejection of the Vipers from the Inner Sphere. Reflecting the bitter lessons learned by the Steel Vipers in that conflict, their leadership reconfigured many 'Mechs in their touman to make them better suited to larger and more fluid engagements. The new Vapor Eagle 3 increasingly filled holes in Steel Vipers frontline units that saw action against Clans Snow Raven and Star Adder in the Viper's campaign to secure a dominant position in Clan Homeworlds immediately prior to the Wars of Reaving.
Built around one-on-one duels, the Vapor Eagle focuses a good deal on speed and maneuverability, and its weapons configuration emphasizes close-range firepower. Clad in nine tons of ferro-fibrous armor and built around a 330 rated Extralight fusion engine and an Endo Steel frame, the Vapor Eagle can reach 97.2 km/h on the ground and six jump jets allow it to cover 180 meters at a time. The inspiration for its Inner Sphere reporting name, the Vapor Eagle incorporates large arm baffles much like the venerable Griffin, but rather than blast deflectors the Vapor Eagle uses them more like wings to enhance its jump jets. While not as effective as the later Partial Wing as these stabilizing wings provide negligible lift, with some of the thrust from the torso jump jets diverted over their surface, the Vapor Eagle has very smooth and controllable jump flight allowing precision landings.
The Vapor Eagle features an eclectic and close-ranged weapons loadout, mounting a Large Pulse Laser in its right arm, supported by a single Machine Gun, two Streak SRM-2s and three Medium Pulse Lasers split between its side torsos and rounded out by a trio of Machine Guns in a handgun shaped housing in the left arm. The addition of a Targeting Computer makes its firepower even more deadly as long as it can get its weapons into range. Eleven Double Heat Sinks, half a ton of machine gun ammunition and one ton of Streak missiles are more than adequate for the average Clan Trial.

[ID: A series of digital artworks describing an original species named Glix in detail. The species is shown to be ferro-fluid based, with black, goopy bodies taking different shapes while accented by more colorful, yet equally simple masks. The first few parts covers their physical abilities, as it’s explained that the masks themselves are sentient and the ferrofluid bodies are controlled via magnetism and electric currents exuded by the masks. Because of them, they are shown to be able to change shape and even grow spikes when stressed, similar to how magnetic fluid acts in real life. Other parts elaborate on the roles they take in their underground living quarters, as the small population is forced to follow orders from the giant floating Glix head known as the Matriarch. Jobs include scout, commander, combatant, high commander, and translator, and their stomach plate symbols are shown to coincide with their roles. Some final information details how two Glix can form a contract, where they’re able to share ferrofluid mass and become bigger and stronger from it. End ID]
Glix, ferrofluid / magnetohedogical-based creatures that live underground and can take a variety of different shapes ... plus so much more!

Atlas Gewitter AS7-K3-Tb2
Gewitter was the custom command 'Mech of Lieutenant General Theodora Marten-Steiner, notable for her role in the early formation of the Third Star League SLDF, Operation TOUCHDOWN, Operation WINDFALL, and the later Lyran War of Reclamation. Famous in her eventual role as commander of the hyper-elite Royal Guards RCT, the Lieutenant General also served as the second commanding officer of the Royal Black Watch regiment, after its second re-founding in 3151.
Gewitter is built on the Atlas chassis, though a great deal of modification has made it truly one-of-a-kind. The original platform upon which the venerable ‘Mech was built was the Atlas AS7-K3, notable for its inclusion of jump jets. They remained a hallmark of Gewitter, carrying through to the final model, introduced on the battlefields of Helios in October 3153, much to the horror of the Word of Blake forces at the Battle of Fort Bayeux.
Gewitter is, at first glance, a fairly standard Atlas mech, originally of Defiance Industries manufacture. However, after two major refits, very little remains of the original K3 as it entered service in 3134.
The first refit was conducted by the MechTechs of Skobel Mechworks at their Yakima Proving Grounds on Terra. There, for a time, Gewitter sat opposite Test Unit Sierra Five - the original Mackie and the first ever BattleMech - while the Atlas was fully rebuilt. The refit focused on integrating mixed Inner Sphere and Clan technology along with additional command gear, armor, and sensors; steps were also taken to shave weight from the original design. This further enhanced its pilot’s dynamic, fluid style with greater maneuverability. An extra additional step added late in the refit process, as ordered by Commanding General Melissa Hazen herself, saw Gewitter's right hand fitted with a half-ton, 24-karat engagement ring, complete with the largest natural diamonds ever cut in human history - the inside band of which was etched in micro-font with the entire Jade Falcon Remembrance. This ring remained upon Gewitter's right arm, even after the wedding of Hazen and Marten-Steiner in the aftermath of Operation TOUCHDOWN.
The second refit, performed on the battlefields of Helios by Star Captain (later Khan) Xerxes Truscott of Clan Star Adder, focused primarily on the integration of two newly designed, powerful, and devastating weapons: the Clan-spec Light Gauss Rifle and the Pile Bunker.
After this second and final refit, Gewitter was equipped as follows:

THAT WOUND. THAT VILE WOUND. it throbs in time with your speeding heart, and the ache it carries through your veins is oppressive, its hot, it tangles around your jaw and through your spine and behind your eyes. there are needles, sprouting from the lacerations like the most heinous ivy, and it strangles your lungs, rips tears from your eyes, lures bile to your throat. it hurts. oh god it hurts. you cant think, you cant breathe, you cant swallow, you cant see. you cant see. you cant see. you cannot see but you know when your eyes are closed, because there are colors stained upon the backs of your eyelids. they form images of loved ones, of viscera, of bile and blood and blackened mud. its jarring, they make anxiety spike outwards, frantic ferro fluid, frightened from faces too scared, too pained, too dead, too piercing with eyes staring straight at you, straight at you. actually, you cant tell when your eyes are open.

The incredible Inky Becile!
She may have been created as a copycat, but that’s not his fault!
Learn more about Becile Industries’ newest hydropower automaton!
Powerful purpose!
Created in 2011 by Becile Industries as a response to Steam Powered Giraffe getting a gig at the San Diego Zoo, Inky was designed to play music at the Birch Aquarium in La Jolla California! We couldn’t let our “friends” at Walter Robotics have all the fun! He was programmed with a love for music and all the creatures of the sea!
Magnificent Magnetism!
His chassis makes good use of electromagnetism and is fully covered in Ferro Fluid, that can be shaped how she wants by changing the strength of the current through certain parts of her plating! His favorite thing to do is shape her arms and head to look more like an octopus or squid! She can form a mouth on her face, but he doesn’t have a jaw, just speakers, so he usually just doesn’t appear to have a mouth at all. The only feature that never changes is a pair of big glowing green photoreceptors that are the cutest and most expressive part of her.
Hydropower!
Due to the magnetization of the ferro fluid decreasing the more the temperature of the paramagnetic material increases, he cannot be powered by steam or coal, due to the heat it generates, so his genius inventor rigged a system to use the green matter to cause water to move and flow perpetually in his core, spinning a rotor to generate the electricity she needs to function! Environmentally friendly AND practical!
Clever Clothing!
Inky knows herself to be of two genders, and as such, uses the pronouns he and she! His only adornment—due to the discomfort of wearing clothes overtop of the gelatin-like ferro fluid—is a snazzy green bow. Masculine bow tie or feminine hair bow? The article can serve both purposes as this bot can maneuver it with ease to where it needs to be using his expertly manipulated ferro fluid coating!
Rocking Repertoire!
Inky the automaton can play and sing a wide variety of songs, all things that have to do with the water and the creatures that live in it! She has a combined programming of covers and songs he wrote himself with his very own composition software! You could find her rocking out on her pretty purple electric guitar, serenely strumming a ukulele, or even striking the keys of a keyboard.
But this tale is a tragic one!
Our innocent little Inky was laid off from his place of employment at the aquarium because of her appearance, which the staff described as “creepy” and “like if venom and kuthulu had a small robot child”, which we here at Becile industries think is very unfair to the poor kid. Everyone who’s gotten a chance to know her has said she is polite, friendly, and energetic! He may not be perfect, but what 13 year old boy/girl is?
You can help!
If you want to help our robot, look for him when he busks around the San Diego area, or if you aren’t local, you can support her and her robot siblings at Becileindustries.com, or check out https://tinyurl.com/InkyInfo-BecileIndustries for more information! And finally, if you just want our correspondent to pass on a message her way, you can message the blog that sent this informational post, and our crew will tell him what you wanted him to hear!

Ben 10 Albedo Aliens - Ultimate Biot-savartian
This transformation now has a metallic rigid structure, its ferro fluid muscle system has been replaced by a Stable Non-Zero Neutral magnetic field. He can absorb electricity and the magnetism from objects and store it in the Magnetic field. He is able to put the collected magnetic energy and infuse it to even non metal objects. Once he collects enough energy his claws can be used as rail guns to launch any magnetized objects that fit in them.

This morning we went from the water slime( Rio) to the Earth slime(clay)(which is me) which makes me curious about other elemental slimes. If we went with a more western understanding of Elements there would be Fire slime(magma/lava perhaps? It is melted earth but the heat could represent it) but what would air slime be...
Chinese elemnts its easier to do emtal would be like Mercury or some kind of ferro fluid. And wood would probably be something like Sap I think.
There are other traditions and understanding of elements im almost certain but those are the only two ones I know enough about.
Hmm so any idea of what Air Slime can be?

Guest Post from John Martin Rare Book Room
Hardin Library of the Health Sciences
MESUË THE YOUNGER (fl. ca. 1200?).Canones universales. First Giunta edition. Printed in Venice by Luca-Antonio Giunta, 1527. 388 leaves. 32 cm tall.
Much like a good Thanksgiving meal, the book this month has a little bit of everything. Foundational medical text? Check. Authorial intrigue? Check. Marginalia? Check. Evidence of possible censorship? Check. Evidence of manuscript AND printer's waste. Heck yeah. Football? Well...no. But don't let that stop you from reading on. Your brain-stomach will be full to the brim after reading all about Canones universales from Masawayh al-Mardini (also known as Yuhanna ibn Masawayh and in the West as John Mesue, Mesue the Younger, or Pseudo-Mesuë).
Mesue was a rockstar in medieval and early modern pharmaceutical medicine as well as a mysterious figure with confusing origins. The earliest known writing by Mesue is from northern Italy in the late 13th century. These are supposed Latin translations of the Arabic originals. The problem is, although Mesue is credited with many works, no original Arabic texts exist.
We now know through the detective work of scholars that Mesue is most likely a pseudonym chosen to capitalize on the name recognition of an earlier Arabic writer, Yuhanna ibn Masawayh. Ibn Masawayh (ca. 777-857) was a  physician from Baghdad who wrote many works of his own. Known in the west as Mesue the Elder, ibn Masawayh was famous in his own right and, among many other topics, wrote pharmaceutical treatises.
Mesue's works were an immediate hit. Some of the most famous western physicians of the time, including Petrus de Abanoand Mondino dei Luzzi, wrote commentaries on Mesue's work. Canones, in particular, was very influential. It was printed more times in the 15th century than works from several other influential authors, including ibn Sina and Pliny the Elder.
Canonescontains the whole of the Pseudo-Mesuë's writings, consisting of three works: one on purgatives (laxatives); an antidotarium, or apothecary's manual, which was the most popular handbook of drugs in medieval Europe; and an incomplete manual of special therapeutics. The first work, De simplicibus, is a book of so-called "simples." These were substances from nature thought to have medicinal properties, or "virtues," a term used throughout our many herbal medicine works. De simplicibus specifically listed forty-nine purgatives - substances used to purge bodily fluids and rebalance one's "humors."
The second work, Antidotarium sive Grabadin medicamentorum, or simply the Grabadin, was a major work of pharmaceutical compounds. It greatly expanded the drug treatments available to European practitioners. It was based on Arabic pharmaceutical tradition, which had as its foundation Greek tradition. It became the standard for European pharmacopoeia and was the foundation for centuries of pharmaceutical medicine.
This edition of 1527 (we also have a 1502 edition) would have functioned as a Physician's Desk Reference, guiding practitioners in their use of pharmaceutical treatments. Along with Canones, it contains medical and pharmacological works by other authors such as de Abano and dei Luzzi, as well as Abulcasis (Abū al-Qāsim Khalaf ibn ʻAbbās al-Zahrāwī), Saladino Ferro, Gentile da Foligno, Christophorus de Honestis, Francesco di Piedimonte, Matthaeus Platearius, and Niccolò da Salerno.
This book has clearly lived an eventful life. As can be seen from the images above, the leather covering has experienced quite a bit of trauma. The pretty blind-tooled cover shows a large tear, deep scratches, insect damage, evidence of mold, and major loss along the lower spine. As horrible as all this may look, it provides us with a lot of information we would not have had available with a completely untouched binding.
For those interested in historical bindings, there is a wealth of information. The exposed spine shows us the sewing and materials used to create the binding. I have written before about manuscript or printer's waste - the recycling of manuscript and printed material in the construction of new books. The exposed spine on Canones shows evidence for both! Take a close look at the image of the spine and you will see hand lettering on parchment and what looks like a print of a small decorative frame used as a spine liner. For more on waste in the John Martin collection, join me for a talk I will give at the Iowa Bibliophiles this spring.
Diving into the book, many of the pages are heavily annotated, including several manicules like what is shown in my intro. And much like those of modern students, the annotations peter out before the end of the book. The more things change...
Taking a look at the paper, most of it is in really good shape. It has a lovely creamy color and supple texture. Every so often throughout the book is a leaf with heavy foxing (rusty-looking discoloration). It is clear that at least one batch of paper used to print the book was of substandard quality and contains acidic particles eating away at the paper. Hopefully, most of the damage has already been done.
Finally, about three-quarters of the way through the book, a section has been rather violently ripped out. One of the photos shows the uneven and rough stubs left over from this assault. Did someone find something they disliked and angrily remove it? Was it a section with valuable information that a student or practitioner decided to take for themselves? The missing section mainly deals with the pleasant-sounding "putrid fever." Was it a library book and, lacking a sharp knife, someone coughed loudly while ripping out the pages? We will never know, but it is fun to think about!
For more on Mesue the Younger, check out The "Prince of Medicine." It is a deep dive into his origins and lasting influence from Paula De Vos (2013).

AS7-K3b2 "Gewitter"

** = A Pile Bunker inflicts one point of damage for every five tons the 'Mech weighs. When punching with a Pile Bunker, the user can choose to fire the pile, expending one shot of ammunition (5 ammo per ton) and generating 5 heat, scoring a critical on the location hit with a -2 modifier. In addition, if armor remains after an attack where the Pile Bunker has been fired, roll for a second critical hit with a -2 modifier. For each critical dealt, also deal one point of internal damage to that location.
*** = gives a -1/-1 morale bonus to pilot and gunnery skills - if (and only if) Theodora Marten-Steiner is piloting.
Features the following design quirks: Battle Computer, Battle Fists (LA), Battle Fists (RA), Combat Computer, Cowl, Distracting, Easy to Pilot, Extended Torso Twist, Fine Manipulators, Illegal Design (Custom Weapons+Custom Equipment), Improved Communications, Improved Sensors, Multi-Trac, Nimble Jumper, Reinforced Legs, Variable Range Targeting
(Our second Fanon Friday 'Mech! Again designed by yours truly for @baldy-wan-kenobi's character Theodora, part of the Operation Touchdown AU RP project. No art on this one, but hopefully there may be some soon!)
