(timothy olyphant, he/him, half-dreamshade) to CAELAN GRAEME CAMPBELL, the whole world looks like an open page. with a leap of faith, their ability of ARCHITECTURE MANIPULATION grows a little stronger.  they are a WHITE ELK shade aligned to NO ONE. for FIFTY-FOUR years, they have survived a world of magic with both their OPEN-MINDEDNESS and RAMBUNCTIOUSNESS. they work as THE HEART OF THE INN / CONTRACTOR, but if they could change their fate, they’d want to CONTINUE TO MAKE HOMES FOR THOSE THAT LACK ONE.
SHORT DOSSIER .
tw: buried alive, horror.... esque?
Summary: Caelan didn’t grow up in the happiest of families. Grand as the house was, neither Caelan or his younger sister felt as if it was their home. One particularly bad spat between their parents caused something to shift in Caelan out of fear. The floorboards rolled, the door slammed shut, the walls creaked and groaned and wailed. Gone was his mother — nowhere to be seen, but sometimes.. heard through the walls.
That ‘disappearance’ flipped a switch in the very foundation of the house. It didn’t have a heartbeat of the living, but he knew it was alive. It didn’t possess the vocal chords to communicate, but he swore it spoke to him to be fed again. It was hungry, so hungry, and unrelenting until the next stressor hit. The tiles crumbled, the rafters bowed, the pipes screeched and coiled. Gone was his father after bearing the walloping of that man’s misery.
Nothing was the same after that. His sister was stricken with terror at what she witnessed — their father, the house, Caelan. She couldn’t stay there anymore. Couldn’t bare to look at Caelan for the horrors he had a hand in. So she left — tried to leave. But one plea from Caelan to stay, please don’t go and leave me here, was all it took for the frame to enact as a cage. If that’s what he wanted, that’s what he’ll get. Gone was his sister right in front of his eyes; down, down into the heart of the house.
The pain and fear and hatred was too much to bear. Caelan turns that damned house into ruins, into cinders despite almost perishing with it. He falls prone to the elements but in comes a knight in.. boney? armor. Artem helps him get onto his feet for quite some time. Even lends a patience ear to the clear trauma Caelan experienced, but he lacks an accurate hold of his memories. Eventually, past their differences, they become grand friends throughout the following years. They even open an inn together and Caelan gripes about it every single day ♥
LONG DOSSIER .
For as loud and crass as someone like Caelan Graeme Campbell is, there isn’t a lot known about the man. Nothing of actual importance, that is. He’s one to keep his nose firmly out of anyone’s business and ( foolishly ) expects everyone to do the same unto him. Spoiler alert: it never works out — either someone drags him into some unneeded knowledge or tries to nose their way into his.
But everyone has their beginnings and preludes to a lifetime of surprises and strife. And he was no different.
Caelan Graeme Campbell hails from a piss poor family of four nestled in the dirt rich countryside. Ma and pa never saw eye to eye on anything, even when the mystery of their disappearance came later in life. His younger sister, quite the maverick she was, hardly cared for the happenings on home turf. She barely stayed put until some grand adventure called her away.
Now, you might be wondering how in the world Caelan let her go so early. Wasn’t he worried about her safety? The world’s a harsh place and he’s already had his fair share of horrible treatment by her birth. And the answer is, yes, of course he was worried sick about her departure, but there was literally nothing he could do about it. Well, except chase trails gone cold over and over and over again until they all... stopped for good.
Or.. did they?
Anytime he calls for a memory of her whereabouts, the happenings before her grand departure, nothing clear comes to mind. It’s all veiled in something oily thick, just within grasp but too slippery to get ahold of. Caelan can never parse what fractures go with what and when. There’s just his sister’s million watt smile, the creak of that one stubborn step in the attic stair, a silvery windchime laughter, the starvation of split planks and dried mortar, separate dinners around a dust coated table— the need to be fed.
                                              It has to be fed.
                                                             It will be fed.
Anyways, family aside, he’s always been hard-headed with even thicker skin. Not once did he have a goal in life other than to survive it. Death would come for him whenever it’s time — he made peace with that fact early on ( perhaps concerningly so ). Unless the curse of his father’s blood ran stronger than it did in his sister.
His sister.
The house — not home, they had the privilege to call it home.
It robbed him of something. A few somethings. Why does the fervency of terror run rampant whenever that place appears in his thoughts? Why does one sentence echo over and over and over again?
It was fed. It was fed. It was fed.
Anyways, as luck would have it, the only friend he’s ever really had ( he still uses that term very loosely ) comes out of the blue with some big bucks idea. ‘Caelan, my good friend, you have so much experience in creating these grand architectural feats— why not help me create and operate a place to help shelter those in need?’ And damn those buttery words and tranquil charm. It only took three years for him to turn around and take up Artem’s standing offer. And so, he’s come to an agreement with things. Where he is in life, who he tries not to be around, how long he’s been ‘settled down’... for now.
MISC. INFO .
Okay actual TL;DR: House cursed. Parents bad. Caelan accidentally triggered a curse because he was a kid and very scared of a screaming match. house swallowed mother. house negs Caelan to let it eat the other parent because that dude’s just as mean. it ends up happening out of self defense. sister gets terrified of what’s happening and tries to leave. Caelan’s equally as terrified and doesn’t want her to. house says ‘say less’ and eats his sister too. completely heartbroken of the unfortunate events, Caelan tears the house down and nearly depletes all of his magic. then Skeletor man ( Artem ) comes in the scene and they become boon ( bone ) companions ( jk on the bone, they’re not interested in each other like that ).
Caelan doesn’t remember the truth the revolves around his sister’s death. His parents, yes, he does remember that clearly. But out of shock and trauma, he believes that she ran away from home.
CONNECTIONS .
Bob the damn builder — There a building that needed to be designed and erected within the past.. thirty years? Chances are that Caelan had his grubby fingers in the progress some way or another. Anything from cookie cutter homes to institutions to temples to arenas — he’s got the experience with them all. Warning: he’s not the easiest / happiest to work with, but boy does he get those results.

Bookkeeping
In this most significant for him day Artem Sergeyevich was, as they say, out of sorts. As a matter of fact, his spirit, which has grown extremely tired from a fifty-years life, was a flyer of sorts, soaring over a silently lying in a bed body, performing such sorts of air pirouettes, which would surely give a birth to envy in hearts of even the best of human stuntmen and acrobats. The body in its turn didn’t show even the slightest signs of what is usually considered to be the only one given to a human life. And how hard did the spirit of Artem Sergeyevich try to bring it back to life! He even tried both slaps in a face and uppercuts – yet no to avail.
“What, did I really died?” the spirit, floating over a body, was thinking to himself. “Silently, touching and warning in advance no one, died in a dream? And for what’s sake was all that, I would like to know? And where should I, as a matter of fact, go on now?”
Whatever you may say, but hard is the realization that you are still alive and standing nearby an already breathless corpse, and not every Artem Sergeyevich can easily bear with it. Having performed some more dozens of somersaults and finally convinced himself, that he is indeed a little bit off himself – at least habitual to himself – the spirit of Artem Sergeyevich silently sat down on the edge of a bed near his last vessel and got lost in thoughts.
“What did I live for – and for whose sake did I die? What was the meaning of this, so suddenly ended life, if it turned out all of a sudden that it was not the only one? What is life and why do we need death, eventually? Where have I got and what do I do now?” these and a great number of similar to these questions soared in a consciousness of incorporeal Artem Sergeyevich, and the lack of clear answers to them forced his spirit to become more and more out of sorts.
He was distracted from these sad afterlife reflections by someone’s soft coughing behind his back. From a surprise, the spirit of Artem Sergeyevich made yet another somersault, turning towards a source of the sound. Directly in front of him a beautifully looking – perhaps even to a degree of how Artem Sergeyevich thought about himself some thirty corporal years ago – a young man with snow-white wings was standing.
“Ghm!” perplexedly said Artem Sergeyevich.
“And kind spirit to you as well!” the young man said in reply.
“Who are you, actually, and what’s your name? And why do you creep towards me to silently?”
“You can call me as the Guide of the Other World”, the young winged man replied kindly. “I was sent here to help you to orient in these, so to say, unusual for your circumstances, and further to accompany you through all necessary instances.”
“Indeed! Circumstances are truly unusual,” agreed Artem Sergeyevich. “I have died, damn it! And I had thought that I would live forever! It’s absolutely unusual!”
“In the highest, that is, in spiritual degree,” smiled the Guide. “Not every day we are given a privilege do die, isn’t it? Though some people began to consider that they have been dying since own birth… So, are you prepared to move further?”
“And where shall we go, I would like to know?” Artem Sergeyevich interrogatively raised his eyebrows. “Don’t I need to say a final goodbye to my relatives? I, by the way, had two children and a wife in this former world. It’s very unlikely that they will rejoice of hearing about my sudden death.”
“I am afraid, Artem Sergeyevich, that they won’t be able to see or hear you any longer. If only through dreams – but you will have to ask for a special permission in the Department of Dreams in that case, and at present times it’s seldom given to, so to speak, temporarily and untimely resting in peace ones. Therefore, we should move forward together, there is no other way. Especially when control periods for passing through necessary social instances are strictly limited. So, are you ready to go with me?”
“Well, if I have no other options left…” the spirit of Artem Sergeyevich made a helpless gesture with its translucent hands.
“You had a broadest free choice when you have lived in so habitual to your physical world, Artem Sergeyevich. And now we must accurately follow well-established procedures.”
Having that said, the Angel, who has called himself as the Guide, raised own covered with feathers hand, drawing a spiral in the air. With each newly made pass of his hands, this spiral was becoming brighter and more visible and finally turned into a gracefully looking sparkling tunnel.
“Transition between the worlds,” explained the Guide. “Some people see it by themselves when they leave own bodies. Let’s go,” he continued, having taken Artem Sergeyevich by hand.
Two figures – one of a casting golden light Angel and a gray-brown figure of Artem Sergeyevich’s spirit – bravely stepped into the tunnel. At first, something pinched in the eyes of Artem Sergeyevich, then started to sparkle, then sparkles began falling down, his head started spinning and from what he has seen somewhere inside these tunnel labyrinths he finally lost his consciousness…
***
“Scatty one you’ve got this time. He even didn’t manage to pass through circles on his own.”
“Few are capable of doing that now. Therefore, they send us more and more often for them, you know that well.”
“And I should guide a suicide spirit tomorrow, his term of near-earth tortures has just come to an end, and term for spiritual pain has just started.”
“That’s not a big deal. I was once given a mission to guide a couple, who for the sake of eternal love, as our opponents inspired them, jumped together into the industrial tank, filled with sulfuric acid. You’d better not see, how their souls looked like when their term of Transition has finally come…”
“Cranky ones.”
“Well, they are not the first, and surely not the last.”
“Looks like your ward got recovered at last. His consciousness resonates from a surprise on awakening, I can feel it even from here.”
“Yes, precisely. Guide him to estimators. Man, he will be surprised.”
“Well, till our next meeting in the sky, brothers.”
“So long.”
With these thoughts, by means of which he communicated with his colleagues from department and hierarchy, a young white-winged man went with a fast pace to Artem Sergeyevich, who was lying on a lawn’s grass of emerald color.
“It’s good to see that you have finally regained consciousness,” he answered with a smile to a spirit of Artem Sergeyevich, which was drowsily looking around. “I had to lull you somewhere in the middle of our journey, because due to the nature of your earth affairs the route, that we were obliged to take, as well as inhabitants of these other-worldly tracks were not the most pleasant ones,” he added quietly.
“I… what… where… oh!” barely managed to mutter our hero.
“You are in a special place now, on fields of restoration and healing. But we need to continue our journey because we are already somewhat out of a required time schedule. By the way, while you were resting, I have already managed to bring all necessary informational materials to the department of returned souls, including your family tree, data on your lifetime affairs, habits and hobbies, merits and demerits. Therefore, at present time we, my dear fellow traveler, need to proceed to estimators in bookkeeping department, and after that – vast waiting halls will wait for you for a whole million of earth years. As writers of your world said – ‘One million of years before doomsday’… or the end of darkness. It depends on your final score, calculated by estimators in the bookkeeping department.”
“What sort of… bookkeeping department? Is that a business of… sorts? Sales of tunnel attractions or souls?” muttered half-asleep Artem Sergeyevich.
“Oh, by no means,” the Guide burst out laughing, “no sales at all! Our accountants neither buy nor sell human souls, don’t you worry. They are engaged in the estimation of their quality because only qualitative souls will be taken into account. Well, and how qualitative is your soul by our standards, you will learn soon enough. I am, by the way, will be interested in knowing that as well,” the Guide smiled politely.
With these words being said, he took a soul of Artem Sergeyevich on his hands, made a jump from the ground and soared up into celestial heights.
***
“Good afternoon, Rael,” smiled the young white-winged girl in a celestial-blue dress. “Newcomer?”
“And in a first-person,” answered the Guide, lowering Artem Sergeyevich on a habitual to him soil, which had a shape of shining in bluish shade floor. “Registration department must have already sent you his data, check incoming messages. You calculate and estimate him now, and I will be waiting in a corridor, all right?”
“Certainly,” smiled the estimator, who obviously liked Rael. “So kind of you to carry him by yourself. People have become noticeably weaker recently. Unlike the times when the leader Jesus personally descended into their world…”
“By the way, I wanted to ask that a long ago, – does your program takes it into account? Well, weakening of human spirit?”
“It does,” Angelina smiled. “But that’s a minus, as you certainly understand.”
“I do…” Rael answered lingeringly. “Well, I am waiting in a corridor there. Come in, Artem Sergeyevich, take a sit.”
“Take a seat!” repeated the accountant and moved up a chair to Artem Sergeyevich, who unwillingly sat down. “So, let’s take a look…”
Within ten minutes the girl diligently typed something on the input device of her visor, and then uttered:
“It’s a real pity, Artem Sergeyevich, but it turns out that your balance score is negative. Minus one hundred fifty absolute points. And we, unfortunately, have no plans to take souls with negative balances on a balance of the new world.”
“What does it mean – negative? What kind of calculations are these? What sort of absolute points?! Madhouse of sorts!” Artem Sergeyevich’s spirit was indignant.
“You see, in calculations of quality of human souls we use absolute points of Light. Unlike the conventional financial points, which are being used in your physical world and have blinded so many souls of their adherents, we use the evolutionary measure that is not subject to time. Here, I will show you,” and with these words, the girl took a long printed-out sheet and gave it to Artem Sergeyevich. “Here, for example, your care for your family, – its worth was estimated to be equal to a hundred forty-five absolute points. It’s an average result because you have been very little engaged into education and upbringing of your children, having shifted these duties to your wife, and devoting the most part of your time to building a career. By the way, summed total results of your labor feats turned out to be equal to fifteen absolute points, – that’s a very small amount, because the social usefulness of your work, associated with the deception of people, wasn’t high at all, and in this job you didn’t show much diligence. And for the treason of your wife – performed twice, it worth noticing – you get minus forty-seven absolute points…”
“Wait a moment, wait a moment!” cried Artem Sergeyevich. “Why is it only fifteen points?! I am a Holy Father, believer, I turned people into your belief, led them to the Christ! What, have you decided to mock your loyal servants?!”
“Wait a moment, wait a moment!” laughed the accountant. “Why do you persist in calling yourself a saint? Saints by our criteria are those souls, whose balance exceeds ten thousand absolute points. And regarding the believer… you see, but due to those events, which have taken place many centuries after our Jesus arrival into your world, and your attitude towards him, we ceased to use that concept in our calculations. It was fair for the first Christians, but nowadays every idler is ready to beat breast and call himself a believer – and we don’t even speak of how many souls have been tortured, exhausted and corporally killed for the sake of that ‘belief’, and how many self-deceptions were made due to illusions of its presence.
Therefore, we no longer use your pseudo-belief in our calculations, we use the concept of ‘soul dignity’. Tell me, Artem Sergeyevich, is it worthy in your opinion to urge to kill gentiles?”
“I did no such things!” muttered our not-really-a-hero with rage.
“And how many times did you call your belief as the best ever existed, do you remember? And how did you publicly derided those, whom you called as atheists on your sermons, have you forgotten? And how proud you were of the power of your faith and your readiness to kill anyone to keep it strong, should I remind you? Why don’t you believe us now, when we are telling you about you? And your wish to a pedestrian, I quote – ‘Where the hell are you going? Rest in peace, walking creature!’ – which you have made exactly a day before parting with your body, when you were rushing inside your BMW through city streets and have nearly brought him down, costed you, for example, minus five absolute points. Here, you can check it all by yourself. Everything is measured correctly.”
“Why do prayers for souls of our parishioners have a negative value, aye?” Artem Sergeyevich continued to be angry while reading an estimation sheet, issued to him.
“Because you demanded from our Supreme Commander, whom you traditionally call as the God, to add a certain amount of absolute points of Light to these souls, which in most cases don’t deserve that at all – and you seek to get a reward for similar generosity by yourself in the form of those conventional financial points. This also concerns your prayers based on schedule instead of call of your soul – they are estimated to have a small, yet negative value.”
“Well, you know!” Artem Sergeyevich got furious, “you will condemn each and every one that way! Even saints!”
“No, saints are the best judges for themselves, even during their lifetime.”
“And what is there… five and a half thousands of absolute points?!” Artem Sergeyevich cried out from surprise, having seen with a corner of his eyes one of the lines in the estimation sheet of another soul, that was lying on a table.
“Rescue of a soul,” Angelina answered with a smile. “Absolutely sincere and real. Plus, five hundred absolute points for the rescue of a cat, whom this woman cured, having sold out a part of own hand-painted pictures for these purposes. Her art and creativity, which has inspired several other men to develop own talents, was estimated to be worth two and a half thousands of points. Our scales are extremely accurate, Artem Sergeyevich, have no doubt of it.”
“Go to hell with these scales-mails-miracles!” Artem Sergeyevich exclaimed in a fit of temper. “Where do I sign here? I sign here and go to my rest place for a million of years! I deserved that!”
“Wait a moment!” suddenly exclaimed the heavenly accountant. “Our system shows a change in your estimated data. The matter is that… your wife… she learned about your double betrayal during your lifetime, but… just at this moment there, on the Earth… she forgave you and asked us to help you in any way possible. Now your balance is… let me see… now you have zero points, Artem Sergeyevich. Well… probably, I should congratulate you with that. Now you have a chance, whether you deserve it or not, – she added quietly.”
***
“What a bitch,” thought Artem Sergeyevich to himself while being led by his Angel-Guide to the halls for a very long awaiting of the Court. “Though by the end of my life, but she had finally made something worthy. I beat her in youth for a reason, not for nothing!”
“Zero… a total zero,” thought the angelic Guide, while looking through the estimation sheet, issued to his ward.
“Saint…” thought Angelina with a smile, watching how the balance of soul of an artist and Artem Sergeyevich’s wife, who has saved his soul this day, confidently overpasses the mark of ten thousand of absolutely unconditional points.

These fifty home exteriors show what it means to have a modern-looking façade. dom daddy artem is so mid in a funny way because it requires you to actively ignore all the times themis/his cards have made it clear that he would not act like that in favor of two mid cards that feel like the writers going “here damn since you won’t stop asking”instead of “guys look he always had this side to him^^”
HELP. LITERALLY. i know i have said this before, but like. if i wanted a daddy dom otome boy i'd go play literally any other otome game.
like wow... you think the serious attorney guy who wears a suit all the time is a daddy dom?
Tumblr media
daddy dom is one of those terms im taking away from fandom and putting on the shelf. yandere too. they're both getting tucked away until people actually apply them to characters properly

You came up on my recommended feed at the perfect time bc I have Artem brainrot rn AND YOUR ANALYZATION OF ARTEM’S CARDS ARE FANTASTIC! I’m one of the few players that avoids most CN server spoilers, and I’ve been abstaining from pulling most cards so I can pull for 3rd anni(which now I’m kinda questioning if I should LOL), so I missed out on a TON of content for all of the male leads. BUT, from the very few cards I had pulled this past yr, I did notice an odd shift in Artem’s personality. Although, I wasn’t too sure if it was just me being dumb or if it was a real thing that was happening. And after reading some of your posts I kinda want to re-read Artem’s Second Anni Card again bc I was so excited for the artwork from that event, that I didn’t pay much attention to the story LOL However, now that I’ve seen what you’ve said and what many other Artem fans have said, I’m sure my feelings weren’t wrong. And now I’m sad 😢
Artem was my favorite bc his relationship with Rosa felt the healthiest and was built on respecting each other’s boundaries, learning how to set boundaries, and working as a team, while also having a more traditional framework of a male leadership role(which I’m extremely fond of). Artem never restricted Rosa from spreading her wings as his work partner or as his life partner, he simply asked if he could come along beside her where ever she wanted to go. AND LIKE HIS ORIGINAL PERSONAL STORY IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF THIS BEHAVIOR! Rosa makes a reckless decision to go get evidence, without Artem, for a the domestic violence case they were working on and almost gets hurt in the process. After that, Artem scolds Rosa for being reckless and for not taking better care of herself. And Rosa doesn’t take it lying down either! They equally argue and get their grievances out in the open, feel bad about later, and apologize. (THE COMMUNICATION IS SO REAL 😩) FURTHERMORE! This incident leads them to learning and understanding how differently they work as lawyers. Artem learns that Rosa is a lot more personal with her clients and handles her cases with an empathetic approach, while he works more pragmatically, so through this case they learn to work to each other’s strengths as partners, covering for what the other person lacks. And the chapters this incident took place in solidified my growing love for Artem bc unlike Luke or Vyn(I’m not sure about Marius bc admittedly I haven’t read his original personal story 😅), Artem doesn’t hinder Rosa by being overprotective like Luke or push her beyond her capacities like Vyn tried to do in his original personal story. Artem allows a natural course of growth to occur in Rosa, while being a hedge of protection for Rosa BUT ONLY when she seems to REALLY need it, and the same can be said for Rosa towards Artem.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk, sorry for ranting 😅
WAHHH YOU'RE TOO KIND!! ;_; thank you so much for the sweet words, it really means a lot!!! i'm so so happy you enjoyed my ranting and raving, honestly having a community of super awesome people to talk about this with has been such a comfort and ive made some awesome friends from my time here, even if we don't chat as much anymore!
and omg, do NOT ever feel bad for ranting in my inbox!!!! i've been ranting about tot in the main tag for two years at this point and i will Always be thrilled to read delightfully written meta such as yours!!!!!
i have to say, i entirely agree with all of this. and i mean ALL OF IT. his personal stories 2, 3, and 4 are my absolute favorites of his and gosh that's like. prime artem to me, i think. your ask reminded me of some meta i read such a long while ago about his second personal story (link can be found here, it's SUCH a good read)
i think a huge issue is that artem originally always felt like the antithesis to your typical daddy dom boss character. when you start playing tot, appearances wise, he looks and even comes across as one. but these initial appearances are quickly shattered.
he is absolutely inexperienced with interpersonal relationships. he fumbles the bag CONSTANTLY with rosa. he's terrible at holding conversation, he's constantly apologizing for being boring. he needs his own fucking boss to wingman (haha. wing) for him. he blushes if mc looks at him the wrong way. he's kinda strange. but he's earnest and genuine. he respects rosa's boundaries. he makes mistakes, but learns from them. he gives rosa time to think over her feelings for him so she can still say no to him if she changes her mind.
it's the contrast between this and his initial appearance that makes him interesting. what is extremely bizarre with artem's recent writing is it feels like someone who only read artem's introduction scene got some vague pointers and was like oh. your typical daddy dom boss guy. okay yeah i can write this. and then they did. which . defeats the whole entire point of what made artem compelling in the first place. he was compelling BECAUSE he subverted this trope. by just making him play the trope straight, you remove any and all intrigue from his character.
by not building off of older cards, you abandon all of the plot lines he had set up. they undid any angst in his stories. they dropped his issues with his parents. they downplayed neils impact on his life. he doesn't even grieve for him anymore. he doesnt even think about him most of the time. what happened to entwined fate? praying for neil's safety? what about neil being his father figure? neil potentially betraying the nxx? are we just going to ignore that now so we can watch artem be an insane freak who just apparently woke up with the skills of a sex god, forgot all of the lessons he learned, and doesnt care about consent anymore?
god, now IM ranting.... regardless. youre so right. i hear artem's newest cards are good so im praying those rumors are true : ((
EDIT: SORRY I MEANT TO TALK ABOUT HIS THIRD ANNIVERSARY CARD!!! it's not as bad as his second anniversary card. i know the bar is in hell but it's something. it's pretty contrived in the grand scheme of things (like why are they moving into a house...?) and has some weird moments, but is ultimately not as bad as it could have been in the slightest. i'd say its biggest crime is being boring as sin. holy fuck. i put that shit on 2x speed and i still found myself wanting to fast forward. like nothing happens at all???? it's so bizarre HAHA

(personally)i would say its around 2nd anni ssr maybe a little worse (lol)that i remember being baffled that they made luke’s free sr better written like?&?& hello why is the freebie better than what i might have to spend money on only way i can explain without wanting to burst into rant is that it feels like they wanted to appeal to the crowd that REALLY want domineering ceo energy from him and that art was more of the focus(the artermrosa art was cute but it is not a good distraction rip) i lied about ranting the sparklers bit was so annoying “oh you guys have to play a mouth to mouth candy game because you and another couple want some sparklers oh you cant just share/split the box because its considered bad luck” they’ve done artemrosa pda before and it wasn’t mid so whats going onnnn with this stupid “oh bad luck”excuse🫠
i definitely agree on his anni sss it could have been wayyy worse but i will take “if hook of love was more boring and instead of deer it was moving in” if that means we avoid mid atleast things are looking better for him imo would say that dragonbreath and beyond were all decent-good
SHIIIIT THAT'S A SCATHING REVIEW. and the worst part is i believe you entirely. i don't even need to read the card to sense the rancid vibes coming off of this summary alone.
see, the thing that absolutely baffles me about the people who are begging for Daddy Dom CEO Artem, and hoyo catering to those people, is like. if i wanted a Daddy Dom CEO i would go play literally any other otome. like literally any other one.
i picked the 29 year old virgin who gets his romance advice from a book for a reason. i feel like im wording this bad but like. if you make artem a daddy dom boss guy that just straight up. isn't artem anymore. that literally isn't his character.
if anything artem was a SUBVERSION of the daddy dom boss trope. he always emphasized being equal partners with rosa. he was utterly incompetent with romance or intimacy. he always respected rosa's boundaries and was extremely careful not to cross any lines.
i haaaaate ooc fanservice so much. i don't even hate fanservice, but if you're gonna have it, i just want it to be in character omfg.
ALSO HELP. i forgot it was named hook of love, but the way i knew EXACTLY what card you meant the SECOND you mentioned "boring" and "deer" HAHA. GOD YOU'RE SO RIGHT. oh the accuracy hurts so bad on that, oh my god hook of love was boring as all hell. i can't even remember what happened in it after the deer feeding.
though it is good to know things are all looking better?!?!??! i might act up once this all comes to global. a fair warning.

You can tag this under 50 Shades, but after I read this post from Hoyolab, hoyolab (.) com/#/article/19978642/, if this is true, I am very disappointed about this direction, though it is one I've seen coming. That being said, you've given your thoughts on the writing. In your ideal world, where would the cards post 2nd anniversary have gone, if you had to keep the general situation/environment, but could change up everything else about it?
holy fuck, the way i actually agree with everything in this post. here is the link for those curious, it's a fantastic read tbh.
a few of us in our tot discord have discussed this as well. here are a few brief snippets below.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
sorry for the incoherent mess of thoughts below, words are Not coming easy HAHA.
but yeah... like the post said, barbie is a very good way of putting it.
i used to have the same issue with luke. i'm not a huge fan of characters being good at Too Many Things, especially when there's no flaws to balance it out. it really pulls me out of the story. so like. the more you try to impress me with a character, the less impressed i'll be. which. is why i haaaate artem's newer cards.
see, the thing is, the whole reason why i liked artem in the first place is because of how he felt like the down to earth option. he wasn't the childhood friend/undercover agent/detective/stem genius, he wasn't a ceo and son of the richest family in stellis, and he wasn't literal royalty. he was just a lawyer who worked with rosa. he was bad at talking to people. he was a bit of a homebody. he was LAME. completely inexperienced in romance. he was good at his job, but it was obvious he put all of his skill points into being a lawyer and no where else. his abilities with shooting and cooking were both important aspects to his character, but the skills hoyoverse added beyond that just baffle me.
he wasn't cool, but he was kind and genuine.
ever since second anniversary, there has been absolutely no consistency to artem's character whatsoever.
neil gets mentioned less and less even though he was a major part of artem's life AND character. neil was his father figure, since his parents were rarely, if ever, around. and yet, in recent cards, tot constantly goes out of its way to try and convince us artem's parents did nothing wrong. to add to that, we're lucky if neil is even mentioned.
in earlier cards, it was very clear artem was grieving neil's disappearance (see: entwined fate). it was also clear artem's childhood circumstances were extremely lonely and caused him to try and brush off the neglect because he didn't want to stress out his already busy parents (see: loving memories and his dreams of childhood sr)! earlier cards also hinted at traumatic events and a fear of firearms due to how dangerous neil's job as a lawyer was (see: focus fire).
but for god knows what reason, newer cards said well! fuck all of this! artem no longer gives one single shit about neil! also? honestly? the writers seem confused and disoriented by artem downplaying his childhood issues and just made it so he truly Had no issues with his childhood. which. ok. i guess.
in recent months, we have not had one single card where rosa and artem sit down to talk about how artem feels about neil's disappearance. one single card where artem even openly addresses any traumatic experiences. or emotional neglect in childhood.
remember when focus fire mentioned that a disgruntled mafia member held him and neil at gunpoint because he was pissed neil put everyone else in the gang behind bars?? no?? yeah, me neither! because it's never mentioned again! old tot content implies it was incidents like these, the general emotional neglect from his parents, and neil's disappearance that contributed to artem's closed off personality. but man, fuck that! for some reason!
this doesn't even touch upon artem's romantic and sexual inexperience, which has also been entirely undone. he's a sex god now, i guess.
and let us not forget how artem has learned and forgot the same lessons like, several times. artem did we not learn why jealousy and possessiveness are bullshit in atmospherics, por una cabeza, etc...??? are we really back at this again? and it's not even being addressed as a character flaw anymore? okay! okay. fine! whatever.
but okay. i'm getting off track. you asked me an entirely different question! where would i have liked to have seen the cards go? i think the cards following second anniversary are so... well, nothing that you could probably swap out the plots and avoid losing anything of importance.
honestly, i think artem's cards would have shined the best if they stuck to his original character. so when considering the confines we have now:
artem is extremely emotionally repressed. it'd take time for him to come out of his shell. and his early dating cards do begin like this! it's very endearing! several cards could focus on this progression as he becomes more comfortable and relaxed with rosa. progression into being engaged. living with someone for the first time. please.
rosa and artem's dynamic has like, vanished in recent cards. which is a goddamn shame, because their more comfortable dynamics in his railroad, revisiting youth, and snowfallen secrets cards are so charming! they joke around! artem's sense of humor pokes out! they act like real PEOPLE! they're silly! they're nerds! they're equals! i'd keep this dynamic instead of it just being artem flipping back and forth between sex god and "yes i will do whatever you want [insert player name here]"
neil. please, can we focus on neil. what being a lawyer means to artem. how neil influenced that. how artem feels about neil being gone, how artem feels about neil's possible betrayal of the nxx?? he could always have an arc of going through the stages of grief, or learning to look at things through a new lens. being sad neil won't be around for milestones. etc.
the incidents implied in focus fire. okay, being held at gunpoint is pretty uhhh fucking traumatic. did any other events happen bc of neil's status? his parents' statuses? is this why he is so emotionally repressed? is this why he takes the law so seriously?
his parents. can we stop acting like his parents did nothing wrong. please. his parents used to be portrayed under the "well meaning but ultimately very flawed" light, which i adored. it was grey. it was human. maybe artem could learn that it wasnt right of his parents to be so nonexistent in his life. his parents can still love him and make mistakes. maybe he could rebuild his relationship w his parents? maybe once he realizes what he went through wasn't normal, he can be angry, and work through it. idk! anything! please!
more focus on rosa. her studies. her exams. anything. her family. her past. her hobbies. her teaching artem something. rosa talking about her issues. pelase. Please.
it truly feels like his original writers got swapped out, and the new ones have no idea what artem's charm was in the first place. they have no idea how his character even works, so they're just desperately trying to attach Cool Hobbies to him bc they think he's more boring than the other boys when like. that's the fucking point, that IS his charm.
gosh this was so long and i'm sorry if it's like. UNREADABLE or if i totally missed the point but this was like. Freeing to type out. thank you for reaching out anon, it turns out i had more thoughts than i expected!! hope you're having a lovely day! : )

finding out that a lot of people think artem’s last good card was second anni meanwhile ive been trying to figure out since its release how they could have possibly released a card this mid
Tumblr media
LAST GOOD CARD WAS SECOND ANNIVERSARY???????????? SORRY I JUST GOT THIS ASK AND NEED TO ANSWER OTHERS BUT I'M SO DISMAYED BY THIS
not only was second anni just ooc and awful in general, it was also painfully mid plot wise and we learned nothing about anything. we gained nothing from it. except a headache maybe. the proposal didn't even reference any of artem's older stories. literally the whole thing felt like some other character.
can people just say they wanted a daddy dom and go like. can we please be honest

hope other anon is right about artem cards getting better.also rip jin’s artem translations i was actually planning on reading his sweet chapter 3 card before it hit global sense some of the accounts i followed said people were praising tf out of the event and card only to find out she dropped themis shortly after 3rd anni artem girlies we are in the mines
oh my god right. i got hit with a like. Deep Wave of Sadness watching some of artem's newer cards bc there's moments where it feels like i'm reading an older artem card, but then these just. bizarre and contrived ooc moments will pop up out of no where to jumpscare me HAHA
AND YEAH. yEAH. YOU DESCRIBED IT BEST, WE'RE IN DEEP SHIT MAN HAHA god the timing is so unfortunate and i mean this. like tragically my spanish classes will be of no use to anyone here so now we just get to sit, wait, and twiddle our thumbs : ). (<-in pain)
ive never actually disliked artem's personal stories and sweet chapter cards. they were like the only bastion of okay artem writing left in tot so hearing it get praised im like. genuinely a little excited?? i might come back to tot if the rumors are true and then pretend like his year three cards never happened LMFAOOOO
